New Taj Mahal tandoori restaurant in Rotterdam Centrum

(From India) ____________________________________ When I entered the "Taj Mahal" around 7 p.m. on Christmas Day 2024, I was surprisingly the only guest, which rather disconcerted me. (Earlier, I had been at a Thai restaurant nearby, which was completely full.) I felt somewhat sorry for the man and woman, apparently the owners of the "Taj Mahal," who were both waiting at different tables. When I needed to use the restroom, I noticed that the door was half open and apparently couldn't be closed at all. The entire restroom seemed clean, but very antiquated. The selection of vegetarian dishes was relatively large. I opted for vegetarian korma with vegetables, sour cream, cashews, and mild curry. The food was quite satisfactory, although the curry was a bit too sweet for my taste. (There was nothing to complain about with the drinks.) The portion could have been a bit larger, especially since white rice isn't very filling. The entire ambiance, however, was outdated and in need of renovation. As a result, I didn't feel particularly comfortable in this Indian restaurant.

We unexpectedly ate here on Sunday. The food (butter chicken and mixed grill) was excellent and reasonably priced. It's hard to believe we were the only guests.

I had some food here recently. I asked them to make the food spicy and it was so good and hit the spot. The panipuri were the highlight. I went there with an Indian friend so I know it was really authentic. The best Indian food I've had so far and the service was amazing too.

Good selection of North Indian food, the paneer especially was very good.

We came with social deal : 1. Service was friendly and quick 2. Food taste good, portion is small but it's okay , dish came luke warm and when we arrived at home , unfortunately I suffered from upset stomach and my husband too, except mine more severe. 3. Atmosphere : it's very simple and that day was hot , but there is no airco or fan. I'm familiar with Indian food, but I don't think I dare to eat from this restaurant again.

Really nice food! Simple location, good prices and delicious food. Recommend the chicken pasanda if you love coconut, it was delicious! They have both spicy and not spicy dishes, all plenty of flavour. Service if very quick, we waited max 2/3 minutes for our dishes on a not busy night. Only us plus another table that night. I would recommend the restaurant to decrease their menu options, they are slightly too many and that can be confusing for costumers.

Have been planning on trying this place for a while until finally did. Sadly, it looked like it was close, but because we made a reservation, we knew that it was open. We tried the appetizers, and it was very tasty and full of flavors. I would recommend for the tikka to be paired with some sauces to compliment the texture. But, my bf is a BIG FAN of Indian food, and he LOOOVVVVEEESSS the lamb korma. Very authentic! I personally love the hot spicy one, and it was delivered! It comes together with briyani rice and some veggies. LOVE THEM! But the best part was the Chai Masala😭🥹❤️, which was so flavorful and comforting, sweet but not too ticked in texture. It literally felt like my mom's hug in my tummy. And I like the dessert very much!Their staff was also very friendly and always attentive if we ever needed anything, even though I think they might be understaffed, but the hospitality is top-notch. The place even looks better than the pictures, only need some people to make it more alive. Definitely would recommend! 8.8/10✨️

Ate here on site via social deal. I ate Indian food for the first time. I liked it. Everything also looked neat and hygienic inside. Staff were friendly.

Yesterday we have been there by booking and when I entered the restaurant there was no one in the restaurant. We ordered Bhuna Paneer, Karai vegetable and Bhindi bhagee but all the recipes are with the same curry with no taste at all. Tandoori naan is like bread, maybe they warmed from ready to make naan Very disappointed with the restaurant and as a Indian I don't recommend

Het komt helemaal vanaf de taj mahal maar toch zijn ze er binnen een uur. Ik heb genoten. Het was heerlijk. De pittigheid vind ik prima, sommige mensen klagen dat het te pittig is maar die vinden een paprika waarschijnlijk al pittig.

We hebben hier lekker gegeten. De dahl soep was heerlijk, net zoals onze curry's. Chef-kok was vanavond chef-kok en ober tegelijk - en bleef enorm kalm, vriendelijk en maakte grapjes. Doet erg zijn best! Hierdoor kun je begrip opbrengen. Je krijgt waar voor je geld. Interieur wat verouderd, maar het gaat ten slotte om het eten.

Via social deal hier terechtgekomen. Snap niet waarom er zoveel negatieve reviews zijn. Ik had de vegetarise samosa als voorgerecht en butter chicken met naan als hoofdgerecht en heb echt heerlijk gegeten! Ook de ober was vriendelijk. Voor mij zeker voor herhaling vatbaar. :)

Het restaurant zelf misschien niet het mooiste,maar wij gingen voor het eten en dat was heerlijk!bediening heel lief,prijs/kwaliteit meer dan goed

Just went today, and was surprised to see the place completely empty. The ambiance and decorations were really pretty, and the music was nice. We ordered quite a lot of food and it arrived quite fast. The service was lovely and the food was absolutely delicious. Both the vegetable and chicken dish were perfectly seasoned and the portions were quite big. The price was very cheap too, so I’d definitely recommend anyone going here to enjoy Indian food

Super lekker gegeten!! Alles was vers en goed op smaak. Het was hygiënisch en goed verzorgd. Zeker een aanrader voor een leuke avond uit! Vooral de kokos naan is een aanrader.

Bij binnenkomst gelijk begroet door een enthousiaste ober. We werden snel geholpen en het eten was erg lekker! Via social deal hier gegeten en het was het waard! Ik kom zeker nog een keer terug!

The food looked very weird textured as if it came out of the freezer and microwaved. Food didn't taste good at all. Some dishes had way too much sugar. We ordered lamb samosas and got chicken samosas, which also had a bad taste. We all just got a desert which also was very disgusting, we all left most of it. We were with a group of 8 we all agreed that this food wasn't much of what you expect to be Indian Food. Really bad. So sad to see a restaurant like this. They could do so much more to upgrade their poor quality. Authentic Indian food can be so amazingly tasty.

Ik verwachtte er niet al te veel van na het lezen van sommige reviews maar het was echt heel lekker!

Het hoofdgerecht lamb was heerlijk en als bijgerecht champignons goed. Beide gerechten waren rijkelijk voorzien van saus. De champignons zonder saus goed geweest. De bediening is vriendelijk.

Via social deal hier voor een hele goede prijs gegeten. Eten was gewoon goed en smaakvol. Bediening was vriendelijk en snel. Geen idee waarom er zoveel negatieve review zijn.

Eten smaakte goed, presentatie is echt ondermaats. Wc is ongelooflijk smerig. Aankleding zaak is bedroevend. Bij afrekenen was een prijs verschil op de bon ten opzichte van de kaart wat het afrekenen naar maakt. Taj Mahal zit al jaren hier , ongelooflijk dat zo n zaak kan blijven bestaan.

Het eten was niet slecht, maar ook niet bijzonder. De pakora en samosa was wat lang doorbakken. De chicken tikka was erg droog. We hadden gereserveerd met The Fork en 30% korting, maar dit kon niet van de rekening worden gehaald om één of andere reden. Daarnaast wilden wij met een Diner Cadeau kaart betalen (dat zou moeten kunnen volgens de website van Diner Cadeau), maar kon dit ook niet. Verder wel heel vriendelijk personeel en goede service.

Heerlijk gegeten. Aangegeven dat we wat haast hadden, het eten werd daardoor wat sneller gebracht. Heel fijn!

Ziet er onhygiënisch uit, airco die er hangt hangt in 2 delen en is bruin ipv wit, schilderijen hangen scheef, koffiezetapparaat was kapot. Service haalde van alles door elkaar, was niet te verstaan, sprak of Engels of zeer gebrekkig Nederlands, waardoor vragen niet beantwoord konden worden. Eten was redelijk veel rijst en kleine porties curry, naanbrood was ook smakeloos. Geen aanrader! Eens maar nooit meer!

Heerlijk gegeten, super aardige bediening deed erg zjjn best om het voor ons aangenaam te maken. Super gezellige sfeer en mooi cultureel ingericht. Eten was erg lekker en werd snel gebracht. Voor het geld wat je ervoor betaald is het het zeker waard!! Ik begrijp alle negativiteit hieronder niet!!!

Hoofdgerecht super! Maar de linzensoep smaakt naar citroen met water, niet een soep te noemen.

We besloten tijdens ons bezoek aan Rotterdam om hier te eten en we werden verrast . Op de eerste plaats verwacht niet een gelikt restaurant, bediening was in Engels , dat gaf wat verwarring bij het bestellen , wel vriendelijke bediening met wat schoonheidsfoutjes, ik kreeg een ander voorgerecht als besteld, mij partner geen lepel bij de soep, bestelde drinken was op. Toch was alles bij elkaar wel zeer lekker gegeten wel zoals het hoort bij indiaans eten hot/heet, authentiek,en dit maakte veel goed. Vriendelijke mensen en aandacht. wel is een toilet bezoek af te raden, deze kan wel een opknapbeurt gebruiken. Alles bij elkaar wie wil voor niet duur en lekker wil eten is dit prima

Beetje ouderwets interieur. Uitgebreide kaart maar zeker niet ieders smaak. Standaard toetje erg simpel

To be honest, their food is sometimes a hit or miss. I have only asked for delivery. They only ask for cash and when you don’t have the exact amount, they get mad at you. Like, if you expect us to pay in cash, at least be prepared to have loose change.

bij bezorging vergeten ze wel eens wat. menu 4 de tandori kip.is later nog bezorgd. menu 4 en 5 waren door elkaar gehaald. volgens mij de nan was heerlijk. appart besteld

One of the best Indian meals i've had in NL. Alu gobi and channa bhajee were delicious, and very cheap for a good amount of food! Garlic naan and dal were also great! Also very quick delivery, will surely order here again.

Vanavond 26-06 gegeten met een socialdeal bon. Nooit eerder geweest dus mooi om te ontdekken. Het eten was wel aardig (mijn partner vond het erg lekker), mijn eten een beetje flauw. De ambiance daarentegen daar wordt je sip van. We werden aan een tafeltje geplaatst die gesitueerd was naast een stapel stoelen en een oude bank. Dat vonden we wel vreemd maar ok. We hadden wellicht zelf om een andere plaats kunnen vragen maar niet gedaan. Toen ik goed en wel zat, bleek ik op een plaats te zitten waar volgens mij al iemand gegeten had. Servet en plaid beide vies met verder allemaal kruimels. Hier heb ik wel iets van gezegd en ik kreeg een schone plaid en servet. Buiten was het erg saai en ook niet uitnodigend, kortom niet voor herhaling vatbaar. Jammer want volgens mij is het niet nodig.

Bij binnenkomst was de eerste indruk al teleurstellend. Het restaurant was zo donker binnen dat het leek of het gesloten was. Aan tafel viel gelijk op dat het rechaud niet schoon was en ook zaten er vlekken op het tafelkleed. Eigenlijk hadden we al spijt toen we gingen zitten, maar via social deals al betaald. We begonnen met een frisdrank. Dit werd in een glas geserveerd en de smaak was niet goed. We denken dat ze het zelf maken met zo'n limonademachine. Daarna water besteld en dat kwam uit de kraan maar werd duur afgerekend. Het eten was niet bijzonder lekker en erg droog. Leek niet vers, eerder opgewarmd in magnetron. Het toiletbezoek spande de kroon. Wat smerig! En dat terwijl er verder bijna niemand binnen was. We gaan hier nooit meer naar toe. Zonde van het geld en de avond.

The best Indian food I had in the Netherlands. Especially Paneer Massalum, amazing sweet crispy curry, fluffy fresh-made naan bread and very polite customer service. Portions are big, and the restaurant has the authentic traditional Indian vibe with great music. Highly recommend!

Paneer Massallum with Butter Nan never disappoints! Been here many times and the service was always good. Great value for money. Will go there again!
