Pesca Rotterdam in Rotterdam Centrum

It was one of the best experience. The food was amazing as well as the atmosphere. We made a reservation so there was not waiting time. The concept is nice - get a tour of the “fish market” and you get to choose starter, main course and side dish.

First of all, I find it a major drawback that the pricing is very unclear. You often come across a fixed price for a specific fish on the menu. At Pesca, the price is given by weight. It is not possible to view the menu on the website in advance: it cannot be found. I had ordered a sole/plaice. It was covered in a layer of sauce that was hardening considerably. That layer was so hard that the fish meat was stuck to it and could not be scraped off. Very dry, tough, practically black. Inedible. As an alternative, I ordered a monkfish for 33 euros. The fish was not cooked through. The meat in the core of the fish, against the spine, was still raw; the meat did not fall off the bone. Without consultation or asking, a “tip” of 1 euro was added to our bill for the “Pesca Foundation”?? If I want to donate to something, I prefer to decide for myself who to donate to and for how much. Strange move. For a total amount of €130, I find the price/quality ratio completely out of proportion. To end on a positive note: the staff is friendly and helpful.

Very nice restaurant and the concept of choosing your own sea food from the start as you walk in, moving onto what drink you can pair the same with a good choice of wines and finally being sat down waiting to be served.

A nice evening out. Different from the usual, which makes it fun and surprising! Good explanation of the dishes and the wine, with the opportunity to taste.

The staff were incredibly attentive and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. You can choose your dishes first, where a lot is explained about the flavors of all the fish dishes, and then you can select your wine. We will be back very often!

The concept and food is great, service a bit slow for our taste but definetly not bad at all, good I would say. Super fun way of first picking your food and wine and then going to your table. Also had a kids chair for our little one who also enjoyed it. Cocktails were also good! The clams were spectacular!

A great dinning experience from start to finish. No menu, just allow the staff to walk you through the process, reveal todays catch, wine and beer tour and enjoy.

What a fantastic experience at this restaurant on the Botersloot. Everything was perfect down to the last detail. The dishes not only looked beautiful but also tasted delicious. The presentation of the squid in the blue shell was particularly impressive. It was a delight to eat here. I will definitely be back soon. Highly recommended for anyone who loves good food.

Nothing to do with a quality seafood restaurant

Yesterday we had lunch at Pesca Rotterdam. It was our second experience with Pesca; we had previously eaten in Amsterdam. The concept remains incredibly fun: you start at the fish market, where you choose your own fish, then you pass by the wine market for a matching glass or bottle, and finally you are escorted to your table. There, the various dishes are served in stages, and you share everything with each other. The restaurant was virtually empty during our lunch, probably partly due to the beautiful weather and the many terraces in Rotterdam. As a result, we missed a bit of the lively atmosphere that suits this concept so well. In terms of decor and experience, I actually find the Rotterdam branch even more beautiful than the one in Amsterdam. I can imagine that it has a truly amazing vibe here in the evening, when it is busier. We can be very brief about the food: fantastic! Everything was perfectly prepared, delicious in taste, and the quality of the fish was excellent. Absolutely five stars for that. I thought the service was good, but not quite on par with the food. For example, I would have preferred the wine to be a bit colder. Additionally, the bottle is hung in a wine cooler by the table, and you then pour it yourself. Personally, I find that a shame. At a restaurant of this caliber, I actually appreciate it when there is regular attention at the table and the wine is topped up. That provides just that extra touch of hospitality and service. All in all, we had a delicious meal and will definitely be back. For me, however, next time I would prefer to go in the evening, when the restaurant is a bit busier and the concept likely comes into its own even better.

Great concept, excellent wine and a very promising start. The sea bass and salad were delicious, but unfortunately the scallops were served cold and sandy twice. Overall, we enjoyed the evening, but the disappointing scallops and the odd situation of taking back the sardine tin/table number at the end left a poor final impression. A shame, because the place has great potential.

Restaurant with excellent quality fish. It's different and somewhat novel to choose your fish from a counter, like a fishmonger's, where they weigh it for you. The price is per 100 grams. Our meal came to €200 for four people: clams and octopus as a starter, fish and chips and cod for three as a main course. Dessert was not included. Drinks included water, a beer, and a glass of wine. It's well worth it. We went on a Monday and it was quiet, but very pleasant. It's not as crowded as we expected.

One of the best fish restaurants

We arrived at 7:15 and the waiter told us to wait for our turn to choose the seafood, but it turns out there are 5 tables in front and each table need to go through the whole introduction and selection time. Long story short 40 minutes passed and 3 tables have done their selection and we have not even been served any water. Leaving and do not recommend if you don’t have the patience to wait for 69 mins before you get to order anything.

Unless you like to wait 1 hour before you can order your food dont eat here. This restaurant has the most inefficient system I've ever seen. Everyone that enters regardless of group size needs to go into a queue for when they get a table. I got placed next to a family with 2 young kids who were waiting for 50 minutes before they were next up in que but then because they couldnt sit in the red chairs (no room for the whole family) they got forgotten about and ended up waiting over 1 hour and 10 minutes! I saw 2 English guys wait 5 minutes for even a beer at the bar! For me i came in solo and after waiting for 40 minutes I had enough. You get to the point where you have to worry about the kitchen closing in most places or if you'll ever get a chance at food here. As for the food itself I've eaten here multiple times. I enjoyed it when they just opened up but the quality has been decreasing to a point where id call it mediocre at best. Probally also due to a high staff turnover. To the owner of this restaurant i recommend you watch your cameras see im not lying about these times and id ask yourself and your staff what are we doing here? If this was my company or if id work at it id be ashamed at this service Oh and incase you read this thinking it must have been packed. This photo is how "busy" it was when I left

The concept is really nice, but we found the place itself a bit dirty. Dirty tables/benches. We were given an explanation of the menu by an English-speaking boy, and this was fine, but on the Dutch side you got much more info. A shame, really. We were shocked by the bill at the end... the price of the fish etc. before you ordered isn't very clear here either. Scallops at 8 a piece is really absurd.

Great fun concept, delicious preparation, enthusiastic staff.

We had a fantastic meal, with the tuna ceviche, the spicy mussels, and the wild sea bass as highlights. It was a real treat once again!

Me and wife went for a 20 anniversary celebration and it was amazing. Tasty food, very creative and confortable enviroment. The butter with seaweed was really good!!

What a lovely atmosphere, from a beautiful hotel at the front of the building to a whole experience on the inside (which you sometimes don't need to be able to see from the outside), where you take a journey by choosing your own fish at the fish market and all kinds of delicious wines at the wine market (as well as other alternatives). I will definitely be back!

Pesca is a real gem for seafood lovers. The oysters were super fresh and the sea bass simply melted in your mouth. You can taste that they work with high-quality products here. The staff knows exactly what to recommend and does it with great enthusiasm. The atmosphere is relaxed, not too stiff but chic. The price-quality ratio is spot on. I will definitely be coming back here more often for that ceviche.

Great venue to celebrate or enjoy fresh seafood. The quality of seafood(especially oyster) is absolutely fresh, and perfectly grilled with interesting seasonings 😋. A bit pricy, but worth it to spend on special occasion.

A wonderful evening in good company. The service was very skilled. From the ladies at the fish counter to the lady at the wine bar. Skillful! Friendly! Beautiful and original concept. The quality of the dishes is superb! Everything left us wanting more. (Which we did). We will definitely return on the next occasion. I can also imagine that on busy evenings the concept is less convenient, which could result in waiting times. But then you are REALLY out.

The food was very good and the taste was great. I personally loved the prawn dish and the crab fry. The Zeebaars ( Sea bash ) grill was very well prepared. Few things to improve is that a menu can be added to give guests an idea about the recipe, although the staff is very nice and explains everything but having a menu help. The other thing is we had to wait almost more than 30 minutes for food the delay is okay but they can explain it during the order clearly so that guests are aware of the time for their order to arrive. I found the crab a bit pricy as 11 EUR just for one small fried crab is pretty high.

I've been twice now. The food is good, the concept is nice, but it feels like the focus behind the scenes is on selling you as much as possible. The recommended portions are incorrect: the first time I ordered way too much, the second time I ordered less than half the recommended amount, and it was more than enough. The girl with the wine was great, but the rest of the staff seemed uninterested in anything other than getting you to order as much and as expensive as possible. The food was mostly tasty, but because a concept restaurant is primarily about the experience, I wouldn't go back. Edit: dishes took a very long time. I asked for an estimate because of the performance afterward, and the staff didn't return afterward. There was over 40 minutes between courses, so we missed the performance. Waiting happens, but it wasn't polite not to mention it; it seemed out of shame.

We celebrated my partner's birthday with a group of 10, enjoying a group menu. What I particularly appreciate is that dietary preferences, including vegan, were taken into account at the last minute. There were also extra side dishes so that we really wanted for nothing. And to finish, a surprise: delicious limoncello to end the evening on a festive note. A fantastic evening!

For an extremely atmospheric dinner with high-quality culinary dishes, Pesca is the place to be! Yes, you pay for it, but the food, service, and atmosphere are more than worth it! Highly recommended time and time again; I keep coming back with great pleasure.

My wife and I went when we visited the city. In short, it was awesome and lived up to the hype for us. Food was so so good. Service was supreme. It was a fun idea. Would recommend anyone willing to pay for a nice meal.

Exceptional seafood, except for the oysters which is very small. Interesting concept where we choose the seafood and wine before given a table. Somewhat like going to a market to choose the fish before passing to the kitchen to cook. We had a bit of unhappiness because the octopus served was only one tentacle where we chose 2 tentacles when we were at the selection station. Fortunately our waiter Luca is service oriented to check with the kitchen and apologize as they got is mixed up. Great service recovery and good thing we insisted for the 2 tentacles we chosen because the tentacles were cooked perfectly and delicious.

Very disappointing experience due to the extremely unfriendly staff. I have been a regular customer of Pesca Rotterdam since it first opened. In the early years, I genuinely considered it one of the best seafood restaurants in the city. Unfortunately, after my most recent visit, the quality of both the food and the service has declined significantly. What disappointed me most was the attitude of the staff, especially an Asian female waitress who was working at the front desk and the fish counter area. We arrived at around 17:30 on a normal Sunday evening and were among the first customers there, so the restaurant was not busy at all. Despite this, we had to wait about 30 minutes at the bar before being able to move to the fish section to order food. This waitress responsible for guiding customers to the ordering area was standing around and not helping us. When I politely asked whether someone else could assist us, she coldly replied, “I don’t know.” Her attitude was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. If she was having a bad day, that should not be taken out on customers. Sadly, this experience completely changed my impression of the restaurant. I would never go visit again.

Surely a nice and unique concept, where one can choose fresh fish like one does at the market. At the same time, I personally appreciate sitting down and taking my time watching through a menu. This way, one can be sure to understand whatever there is to choose from. The staff is very friendly and kind, which makes it a nice experience. We waited more or less 30min before getting our food which was too much time. Food presentation was beautiful and impressive, made with care and dedication. Over-all not my favorite restaurant but for sure something to try for the fish lovers.

Hella overpriced, and they make you wait for a table at the bar to squeeze out extra drinks, even when your table is ready. Only at firm request they would seat us immediately.

The concept is probably good, but the execution is sad.

Despite everything being very fresh, unfortunately, we were all served cold. The plates were cold, causing the dishes to cool down quickly as well. And because we were served everything simultaneously, everything got even colder. As a result, it unfortunately lost a lot of its flavor. For the price, I actually found it unsatisfactory. Even when I made a comment about it, no one did anything to improve it, neither at the table nor at the cash register. Mistakes can happen, but for a small dinner (we had no main course, only 1x octopus, 4x prawns, a salad, and some shellfish), it was ultimately expensive and unfortunately of insufficient quality, which was not improved by anyone.

For a first time, it was a wonderful experience. The setup—where you first put together your meal together, then go through the wine selection, and only then sit down at the table—is incredibly original. The concept takes the sting out of "What do I want to eat and at what price?". You lose sight of the price a bit. On the other hand, I had a delicious meal and it was worth the price. The only downside to the atmosphere was that I would have liked it better if there had been more/more presence of music. Furthermore, I had hoped that the sommelier would have given advice regarding matching wines based on our self-chosen menu. Our own choices were probably not the best combination. Until next time!

The food started off well, but I found a ruined, mud-filled clam in my dish. It looked like mold and was quite off-putting. For a restaurant of this caliber, I expected the kitchen to inspect the seafood more carefully before serving. Wouldn't recommend the clams based on this experience.

Eaten at Pesca for the 3rd time! The reason we keep coming back? Consistency. The food is always TOP-NOTCH! The service is attentive, friendly, and courteous. On top of that, the atmosphere is incredibly good. So if you love fish, it is an absolute must-visit; definitely in my top 3 in Rotterdam. Went out for dinner tonight as a gift for my father’s birthday. Briefly mentioned this in the reservation. Guess what? An upgrade to one of the best tables to make the experience even better + a shot and fireworks on the house. Don't get me wrong! I say go for it, what a great place!

Because of the mixed reviews, I hesitated for a long time before visiting this restaurant. That was a mistake. The food is simply fantastic and very fresh. I think the prices are also reasonable for the quality.

Hello everyone! The restaurant's format is interesting, but it's not fully developed. Similar displays with fresh fish and seafood are common in Greek restaurants, but that doesn't preclude a basic menu where you can choose, for example, a salad or a side dish. We arrived just as the place was opening, but after a while we saw lines forming at the counter by the entrance (where for some reason they were trying to cross champagne with popcorn🤯) and at the fish display (or is it like the cloakroom and buffet at the theater?🤔). Sitting at a table opposite the bar is uncomfortable – the air conditioning is constantly blowing. Overall, it's worth a one-time visit; I don't think there are any regulars here. Or maybe the concept needs some fine-tuning. Good luck!

We ate at Pesca Rotterdam last week. The food itself was fine, but nothing special. The service left much to be desired; we were constantly asked if we were finished while there was still food on our plates, which felt quite rushed. Additionally, the price was truly exorbitant: nearly €300 for four people, without wine, and we weren't even full. We won't be returning.

Absolutely amazing experience at Pesca Rotterdam. From the moment you walk in, you’re taken along the “theatre of fish,” where everything is explained and you get personal, custom advice for your dishes. After that, you pass by the drinks area before being guided to your table: a fun and interactive concept that really sets the tone for the evening. We started with fresh bread and a unique, flavorful herb butter. The food was outstanding: the zeebaars as a main was perfectly cooked, while the Thai oysters and tuna as cold starters were incredibly fresh. We also had the callotes (those round fish), fish and chips, and a fried cauliflower salad, everything was delicious and full of flavor. When we first arrived at the restaurant, we were told at reception that the welcome drinks were “on the house.” However, when we received the bill, those drinks were actually charged. We double-checked with the staff and asked if the drinks listed were the same ones we had at the beginning, and they confirmed yes which left us quite confused. This situation completely changed the mood of our evening. What started as a nice dinner turned stressful, and it even led to an argument between me and my boyfriend because we couldn’t understand what was going on. After going home, the situation didn’t sit right with us, so we went back to the restaurant to ask again. Only then did they admit it was a mistake and refund us. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened to us here. During a previous visit, we were also overcharged for drinks that we didn’t order. I would strongly advise future customers to carefully check their bills, especially the drinks section. It’s really sad because we were looking forward to this dinner for a long time and have been saving up for it, since last visit was nice regardless of the issue. But this time were really affected by this and our anniversary kinda was ruined :(

We had a delicious meal. Wide selection and well prepared. For my pregnant daughter, it was clearly explained which types of fish are recommended and which are not. Excellent!!

Went for dinner and the concept is pretty cool, you pick your fish like at a market. Food is really good, but the price can add up quickly.

We came specifically for the restaurant. The atmosphere looked much more luxurious on the internet, just like Encore in Scheveningen for example, but that is not the case in reality. Also, the fish on display was only a quarter of what was projected in the online photos. Nevertheless, that is not necessarily a turn-off. What is a real shame, however, is that the preparation method is not explained. For a true fish lover, too much is done to the fish to make it "tasty," and there is little left of it. The langoustines were skeletons when they arrived, the lobster had hardly any meat left in it, and the crab was completely deep-fried... very little fish in the end, and we would rather go to Scheveningen next time... it wasn't worth the 300 euros for the two of us.

Yes we paid for the most expensive family meal we have ever eaten. Yet this was the best seafood meal we have ever had. We were quite late going in, but the staff made sure we could eat. By this time the selection of fish was less,however we were able to choose a good variety. Having made our choices, we were given some cooking and flavour options. The chef created a 5 star meal for us to share. The concept of a fish market display to choose from is a neat idea. You get to see how much it will all cost before they go prepare it. After your meal you pay at end, as per any normal restaurant. No need to worry about the lack of menus, as you get to hear how they will prepare each dish. Thanks to all staff for making our dining experience so wonderful.

If you believe in transparency this is not the place for you. There is no menu on the website and even at the restaurant you have no idea what and how much you are paying for the food you are choosing. Is the class of Cava you are offered when you enter complimentary (I don’t know we don’t take it) but given ever item we chose was priced and added separately I am going to say not. The only item explained is the can of sardines your table number is written on. If you open it you are paying for it if you return it (we did) you won’t be charged. You pick 3 courses to share (there was two of us) . You have no idea the cost of dishes as you chose (there is a board that shows the prices per weight but there is no way to determine what that means for what you are ordering. They cut you off a chunk of fish again no idea of the cost. Are any vegetables or sides included (they don’t tell you the answer is no). So whatever you pick (again no prices ) is additive. Off to the wine bar. Guess what, no prices but go ahead a pick a glass of wine. It will be added to your bill. In the end the food is good, not great. The service is slow. (The restaurant was not busy so if it was busy that could be a problem). The bill in the end was $200 Canadian (about 130 euros) which is ok for the dinner but it is annoying that everything is a secret.

The concept of food/fish market is great for the first visit but becomes tedious. Almost an hour after our booking time no food had appeared. It was worth the wait as food was very well prepared. The prawns with green salsa were delicious. I would prefer a menu as the fish comes as they make it so you have little choice anyway.

Really fresh fish and not your daily menu

Upon entering, the market concept immediately stands out. You choose your fish yourself at the display case, as if you were at a modern fish market. This provides control, but also confidence. You see exactly what you are getting. The quality of the fish is high. Fresh, pure, and carefully prepared. No excess, but a focus on taste and texture. That requires craftsmanship, and that is clearly present here. The atmosphere is lively without becoming pressured. People are enjoying themselves, the pace is good, and the staff moves along smoothly with it. They are engaged, clear in their explanations, and show that they stand behind their product. What makes Pesca strong is that the concept and the execution are in balance. The idea is sound, and the kitchen delivers.

Love the Pesca concept! There is no menu, but a fresh fishmarket where you can choose your food. Staff is friendly and knows their kitchen well. After the fishmarket there is the wine market .. for the perfect drink with your dish. As we were settled at our table our dishes arrived. They looked like art and tasted delicious. Restaurant Review I recently visited this restaurant with a group of six, and unfortunately the overall experience was far from what we expected—especially considering the price. Service – 1/5 The service was disappointing. Aside from one staff member who clearly knew what he was doing, the rest of the team seemed untrained and unsure. Every time we asked something, our server had to double-check, and we often had to repeat our entire order. Drinks took around 20 minutes to arrive even though the restaurant was only about 20% full. The slow service and lack of coordination really affected the experience. Food – 2/5 We had the €69 set menu, and the portions were shockingly small for the price. Starters: Each person received one tiny slice of salmon. Around 4–5 small cubes of tuna were shared among six people. Overall, the starters felt more like a tasting sample than an actual dish. Sides: We each received one shrimp, served uncleaned and with the shell on—meaning everyone had to peel and clean it themselves. The tuna was tasty, but again, only one small piece per person (around 15g). Main Course: The main included two small fish and one larger one, grilled and shared at the table. The fish skin was flavorful, but the inside had no seasoning at all—not even salt. For a set menu at this price point, the lack of attention to seasoning was disappointing. Extras Ordered: We also ordered additional lobster, oysters, and scallops. Even with these extras, everyone still left hungry, which should never be the case at a restaurant with this pricing. Overall Value – 1/5 The core product of a restaurant is food and drinks, and the quantity and quality delivered here simply did not match the cost. While the concept and ingredients had potential, the execution and portion sizes were far below expectations. Final Verdict ❌ Great idea, poor execution ❌ High price, low value ❌ Lack of training and slow service I cannot recommend this restaurant based on our experience.

Good Concept but super Bad Service!

The experience starts by selecting your fish from a counter where it’s weighed, and then moving on to choose your wine. The “Theatre of Fish” concept is engaging and structured around this flow. Everything we had was good overall, but the fried calamari and octopus stood out. In addition to the €15 per person reservation fee, the final bill was €131.

Nice atmosphere. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is cozy, with the concept of a sort of fish market.

Had a great evening and a delicious meal. The red snapper was very tasty, and the squid, ceviche, scallops, and soft-shell crab were definitely finger-licking good. So we will be back, and next time we’ll bring fish friends along 😋😋

Enjoying a delicious seafood platter that you can put together yourself. Oysters, octopus, whole fish from the kamado barbecue. Tasty wines. A good and enthusiastic hostess. A fantastic afternoon.

We enjoyed an excellent dinner at Pesca Rotterdam. A fun concept where you choose your own fish at the market stall. We started with a combination of prawns in a pesto/garlic sauce and octopus, beautifully cooked. For our main course, we had the turbot, which was beautifully grilled in a butter sauce. We also had the borata with red and chicory and dressing. A delicious combination, with the cauliflower in a crispy coating and some fries (just the way you like them). Everything was equally delicious. The service was super friendly and helpful. Suggestions for improvement? Perhaps a piece of bread and some olive oil on the table.

I've been several times and never been disappointed. The fish market is a fun concept, and (importantly) the fish is really fresh. I thought there used to be more preparation options for each item, but it's still excellent. Everything is also well-prepared and beautifully presented. The service is friendly, and the shirts are a nice touch. It can get a bit noisy when it's full.

Overall, good and a great restaurant concept. The only flaw was that they brought the wrong fish, and ours was gone. They wanted to get more drinks, but the waiter said he wasn't in charge and would send someone, but he never arrived. Second experience here, still good and recommended.

The atmosphere was nice, but unfortunately the overall experience was very disappointing. I found sand in my scallops, which was extremely unpleasant and uncomfortable for the rest of the evening. When we were paying, another client repeatedly pressured us to leave a tip and even made fun of us. The staff did not intervene or address the situation well. This behavior was unprofessional, and it overshadowed what could have been an enjoyable night. UPDATE: I received a message from the restaurant, that is at least a good sign.

Ate tasty mussels. The wine that was recommended with it didn't taste good. Luckily, we were allowed to taste it beforehand. We had one mussel platter for 3 adults and 1 child. 2 portions of fries was a bit meager. To finish, we ordered an Esma, which was tasty. The atmosphere is less than ideal. It gives me a bit of a canteen feeling because of the roof. I am curious about the other fish, so I will probably come back to try that sometime.

Service was poor. Although we had reserved a table in advance, we still had to wait and were eventually seated at a table behind the bar, far away from the main area. The food was overpriced and lacked flavor. The concept is good in theory, but it was not well executed. Conclusion: I would never recommend this place or visit it again. I did not expect such a disappointing experience from a place like this.

Thursday, February 19, 2026 We have a kind of "subscription" because this was the sixth time we tried our luck at Pesca, and yes, it was delicious again, but we didn't expect anything less. Delicious food, friendly service, etc. We hope we'll have another reason to experience and describe a wonderful and delightful evening next time! Friendly staff, great food, only missing the "rince doigts" that come with prawns and lobster! Their wine list wasn't great either, unfortunately!

Even though the restaurant was about to close due to the snowy weather, they still warmly welcomed my fiancé and me and gave us the full experience. Everything was perfectly explained, and we were even offered a wine tasting to pair with our dishes. The food was absolutely amazing, and each dish was presented and explained in detail. Our server was outstanding, truly made the evening special. We will definitely be coming back with friends!
