Pho 91 in Oude Pijp

I think I'm going to go against the grain of the previous reviews. The pho is nothing special. You don't get the typical aroma of this soup. And yet, it's the restaurant's specialty. The taste is quite basic; I get the impression that the bones and meat (supposedly used to create the real broth) are sparse or nonexistent. As for the meat, the slices are cut very thinly. The raw beef arrives already cooked in the broth, which isn't the whole point of this soup... Another oddity: there's chicken in it... For your information, two small meatballs accompany the soup. So, I really struggle to understand the restaurant's overall rating. As for the bun bo hue, it's originally a pig's foot soup. I can understand that it might be unappetizing, but it's really strange to find the same meat as in the pho. Regarding satiety, with a pho at €19, there was quite a bit of pasta but little topping, and the bowl was small. As for the bun bo hue, the soup was good; you could taste the crab concentrate, but not much rice paste or meat.

It is a shame, because the food is very good and deserves better service. We arrived at 8:15 PM and were told that the kitchen would close in 25 minutes (Google says 9:00 PM); the place was half full, so we said it was no problem and ordered everything at once. The food was served at 8:45 PM: two starters and two bowls of pho. Ten minutes later, the waitress said she had to close the cash register and settle the bill (while we were still eating our starters). From that moment on, the two waitstaff clearly started putting pressure on us. We were not asked if the food tasted good. It was one of the worst service experiences I have ever had: cold and impersonal, with the staff constantly on their phones. Perhaps it would have been better to tell us at 8:15 PM that it was too late for dinner. Very unfortunate, because the food was truly excellent.

Sorry chef, even though the Pho here is not very bad, it’s definitely not authentic Pho (speaking from persepective of a Vietnamese). You may want to add more Vietnamese ingredients to make the soup, it will change the taste entirely.

The broth was really nice even without adding anything to it, summer rolls were also good but 5.50€ a piece is a bit much ngl The self made drinks like iced tea etc. are in small glasses just fyi it’s not 330ml Plus waiting time was really long, we probably did wait about 30 minutes until we got our food. Staff was very nice tho, it’s an okay goodish place to check out.

Not normally one to review,and i try to be understanding- esp as someone who works in the resturant industry myself. But the experience made me very sad :(

Terrible, terrible, terrible ever. Today I was there almost closing time; I could not help but take away. I had a seat outside. The point is, the soup is cold, and everything is uncooked. They knew I would have it at the outside table, even though they didn't serve it properly. Don't go there, all customers.

The broth which is the most important thing for a bowl of pho is tasteless. Definitely not worth the money. Service time was about 20 mins but they said it was because they had just opened at that time.

The best vermicelli bowl I have ever had. Great service. Quick and fresh.

Vegetarian friendly, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are available. Vegetable dishes without the five pungent spices are offered (please inform the staff in advance). A bowl of hot rice noodle soup is so comforting on a cold day. The broth is very flavorful and not too salty. The rice noodles are also delicious. The mushrooms are specially seasoned and very fragrant. I ate here 3 times in 8 days in the Netherlands! 😆

very small 'restaurant' next to the market, so it's crowded and constantly people from the market come in to use the toilet. There are only a few tables and it looks quite dirty. The food: very small portions! (do not order the eggroll, you just get 1 eggroll cut in 4s!). I ordered a bun, but i think they left out the meat or something. The biggest shock was the price: almost 90 euro's for 1 adult and two teenagers (small eaters). Avoid this tourist trap at all cost; just go eat on the market instead (also a tourist trap), or at the McDonalds in the same street.

Love the pho here, it’s always perfect! You might have to wait for a table if you are waking in but they usually very fast. It was my first time trying the coconut curry, it is not as strong of a flavour as I was hoping for. But pho and noodle salad are always on point!

I ended up coming here two days in a row by chance. The pho and spring rolls are delicious. They only have non-alcoholic beer, though. There's a market in front, but it seems to close early. I wanted to take a look around, but that's a shame :)

Fresh spring rolls were ok, although they didnt have the nice fresh herbs like cilantro, thai basil and mint. The fish cookies were a huge failure, it didnt see a piece of fish all it was was a bunch of gluten, like a dutch oliebol. Fake vietnamese food.. disappointed, especially because I asked if the fish cookies contained gluten and she said ‘the outside has some’ she could have said its just all dough…

Delicious vegan Pho! One of the best I've ever eaten. Crispy tofu! When I'm in Amsterdam and near De Pijp, I go there very often.

Very delicious pho! The broth is hearty and savory. Perfect for spring or cold weather. I ordered the all assortments beef pho and their meatballs are delicious. Would definitely come back again if im in the area.

I had a very pleasant lunch at Pho 91. The first thing that stands out is the atmosphere; the place has a fantastic, vibrant energy that makes it a great spot for a midday break in Amsterdam. The interior is well-designed and creates a very welcoming vibe. ​Equally impressive was the service. The staff was quick, friendly, and very attentive to my needs, which I always appreciate. It’s clear they have a great team running the floor. ​Regarding the food, it was solid and flavorful. The ingredients were fresh, and the presentation was lovely. While it was a very good meal, there’s a small step up needed to reach that 'extraordinary' 5-star level for the palate. That said, it’s still a reliable and delicious choice for anyone craving Vietnamese cuisine. ​Overall, it’s a wonderful place with top-tier service and a great environment. I’d definitely come back for the vibes alone!

Would not recommend. I'm celiac so can't have gluten- rice noodles pho is fantastic for this hence my choice. But I've got the gene that makes coriander taste like soap and SIBO so I currently can't have onion or I'm sick, asked for it without and was told no problem but it came with lots all over it, couldn't eat it. I know I understand I'm complicated but this seemed like a rather simple request that they said they could do! Didn't complain as I didn't want a fuss and paid £19 for something I couldn't eat, shame.

The meat tasted super weird. Definitely not worth the price.

We went here for the first time today. We walked in and there wasn't a table available yet. We were told to wait outside, and a table would become available after 10 minutes. Several people came in after us, and they were already shown to a table before us. Then we went back inside and were given a table for three people. We didn't mind this, but there was a large table available where the people who came after us just sat down. No one said anything. The table we were at wasn't cleaned yet and was wet. Then the waitress came and, without saying a word, slammed the menus onto the wet table and walked away. The menus were also dirty. We wiped the table ourselves with a cloth. It took a long time for our order to be taken. The table next to us asked if they could order, and the waitress acted very irritated that she was still cleaning up. So we just got up and left. The service was curt and angry, without a smile. We felt like unwanted customers.

Place is very cool. It was our first time eating Pho and it turns out I dont love it. But it was good. Very generous portions and the staff was really nice. If you love pho definitely go there!

I had food delivered from here. I received the wrong order. The spring rolls were suddenly cauliflower, and the pho 91 (with chicken, brisket, and meatballs) only had meatballs, so the pho must have been beef. After reviewing the menu, the pho beef should have had brisket in it anyway, but it didn't. So something definitely went wrong there. The pho had also been pulled inside the cardboard packaging, so they don't use waterproof material. The food was also cold, but that might have been the delivery person's fault.

The pho is gluten-free and delicious, and the portions are very generous. However, it was quite cold inside and a bit pricey. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it.

The service was very awkward. I was told that my order had been forgotten, and every time I looked around to see if my food was coming, it felt uncomfortable. The waiters were often on their phones and only seemed interested in certain types of customers.

came here twice and the pho is a hit or miss. the first time it was very good, but the 2nd time the broth just was not as flavourful and lacked some depth, the meat could’ve been more tender as well. overall, a quite decent pho that is good on a cold day

The spot is quite small, walk ins only. We arrived around 18:00 on a week day and got a table no problem. The ventilation is very poor so I came back home smelling like food. There were 2 people in the kitchen, one was wearing a puffer jacket so I’m guessing not really kitchen staff? It was so weird. It also didn’t seem like there was a single Vietnamese person there but I thought hey who knows, I’m happy to try. Well… I regret it. The service was super slow and uninterested in the customers. The waitress was chatting with a friend who came over to visit, they were looking at some creams/shampoos? I tried beef bun and shrimp summer roll. The bun was served with red onion (why???) and had a bunch of pre-packed shredded lettuce that was low quality and not a lot of actual rice noodle. Flavor of the meat was very good and the amount of fish sauce was good too. The summer roll was such a letdown though. It had no flavor and you can even see from the photo it’s sub-par. The peanut sauce was quite watery too. I know the place is called Pho91 so maybe their soup is better than other dishes but my experience here was poor. Luckily I at least had good company.

The pho is good but the service can be a little bit cheerful. Atmospheres is great.

Food that isn’t tasty and the service is very bad

This place would have gotten five stars if it were not for the absolutely terrible service. The waitresses are super condescending and unpleasant and service itself is just slow. The food is good, but for the price I’d go somewhere else to avoid such bad service.

Pho was quite tasty and it’s about as authentic as it gets in Amsterdam. Small place, nice and cozy. Portions are okay, although I did opt for extra meat in my pho. The vegan curry is also good.

The best tasting Pho in Amsterdam. Unfortunately in the past 5 years the meatballs have gotten half in size. Two small pieces of brisket and some chicken. The signature noodles have changed too. Not worth the price anymore

The wait can sometimes be a bit long, but every pho we've tried has been delicious. We're okay with the sometimes slow service (busy location) because the food here is always delicious.

Its ok, I wouldnt go back. The only good thing is just the normal beef Pho - bun bo hue was okay, the rolls are ok. The nuoc cham tasted vinegary which was weird. Also the longest ive ever waited for pho in my life

Very authentic Vietnamese food. The pho was particularly good. Small restaurant perfect for couples or small groups. Doesn’t sell alcohol so bring your own.

Food is really good - but service is terrible. Keep coming back as the food is really worth it for the price, but expect to be served with drinks 10’ after ordering, +45’ food delays when they have a pretty manageable menu size. Unsure whether is the waiters or kitchen, but definite needs to improve.

This place has let me down massively. Worst customer care ever.And the pho isn't even that good. Much better at Pho Viet. Pho91 screwed up an order through UberEats and neither party did anything about it. The Pho actually arrived without the broth whatsoever (so just toppings). The rest of the order contained allergens I had specifically ordered all without. They wouldn't refund me. After a few 'nice' emails, they stopped replying and ignored the request for a very deserved and reasonable solution: a refund. Terrible. Would not recommend.

The vegan pho was delicious. The broth was amazing, full of flavour, and the noodles were great too. I wish it contained a bit more vegetables, or perhaps more interesting ones, but the broth was so tasty that I didn’t care :)

Delicious Pho. The portion size was very generous for the price, and there was a lot of filling. We arrived just before 6pm and could be seated right away.

Pho is ok but my goodness, the smallest eggs rolls in the world . Do not , do not order egg rolls, €5.00 for this small little things, can't even get 2 bites.

Nice little Vietnamese Restaurant at the Albert Cuyp area. The Pho tastes as authentic and it's pretty good, the Vietnamese filtered coffee was great as well. Good place for a quick lunch or something light.

Had three vegan side dishes and the cauliflower fries were really really good! They are covered in bread crumb so very crisply and quite different from other cauliflower fries I had before. Eggplant/aubergine salad was also tasty but the salad dressing was a bit too sweet. Summer rolls were alright but the tofu had a slight sour taste which tofu from the store usually has. Generally sauces of all three side dishes were all very sweet so next time I will only order one and try the vegan pho.

My friend and I ordered two different Pho dishes but they were both extremely bland and had no flavor. Service was decent though.

The food? Not that good. The service takes way too long as well. As a real Vietnamese person myself, nothing was satisfying. Back home, it takes 5 minutes and bam the food is out, but this place? Ugh, not the best.. Plus, they charge the food for way too much. I can get Vietnamese food in Vancouver for more expensive prices yet the service and food is more high-quality. Please, this place is not recommended.

I had a Bun chá with spring rolls, which were really tasty and delicious. On the side, I had a Vietnamese coffee brewed with condensed milk - real nostalgia.

Great pho, would love a bit more spice though! Spring rolls were also great, perfectly chewy and crispy. The playlist was perfect if you like Gorillaz and Air, they just kept playing banger after banger

Delicious curry chicken cold rice noodle salad... light and refreshing

The inside of the store is spacious and comfortable. In particular, the male staff was very kind and spoke English well, so I was able to eat comfortably from the moment I entered the store to the moment I left. I ordered the main menu, Pho91 and Ice tea, and although the portions were not large or the taste was special, they were delicious.

The soup is very salty and has no aroma. The beef slices are okay, but without the soup, the soul of pho is gone. It's really just a bowl of noodle soup. It's better to eat while walking at the market at the door.

Order some food on Uber Eats, wanted to try the phon here for a while as I heard hood things, but honestly it was disappointing :/ 1. very little broth, didn’t even cover the ingredients 2. no lime, coriander was wilted 3. the broth tasted weak Overall, tried better pho even in Amsterdam, and far from the best one I tried in a place in Brussels run by a Vietnamese family. And I guess Uber Eats just doesn’t work for this, delivery took ages, food was lukewarm. It’s honestly sad as it’s my favourite soup..

We recently ate here and it was a mixed experience. For mains we had the Pho cha and Bún chả giò, both really delicious! Well seasoned, fresh and exactly what you would hope for from a Vietnamese dish. I would definitely come back for that alone. For starters we had Súp lơ chiên (fried cauliflower), but unfortunately it was very disappointing. The oil seemed old and not changed, which you could taste immediately. In terms of hygiene it could also be a bit better, it didn't look or feel very fresh, and that detracts from the dining experience. The atmosphere and service were otherwise okay, but you mainly come here for the Pho cha. For the rest there is definitely room for improvement, especially in terms of hygiene and quality of the starters.

Super cozy spot with fantastic food and lots of vegan/vegetarian options. I had the classic vegan pho and it was absolutely on point — rich, balanced broth with great depth. The portion was generous too, with plenty of tofu, noodles, and fresh bean sprouts. Also tried the vegan cauliflower wings — honestly, a standout. The tamarind sauce drizzle, fresh red chili, green onions, and that perfectly crispy batter… just amazing. Definitely a place I’d come back to. Flavorful, comforting, and clearly made with care.

Lovely Pho Restaurant! The place is quite small but it’s very popular as people kept coming and going. The vegan pho was delicious but honestly the starters were the star of the meal! There are multiple to choose from and for those with big appetites, you’re better off getting 2 starters as it’s the same price for the pho and fills you up a lot more! Equally. the staff were nice and the ambiance is cute! Will definitely be returning for the fried cauliflower 😁

The vermicelli salad was delicious ! The sauce was light yet flavourful, I do wish the coffee was larger in portions, the coffee did take some time to drip down… you cant drink it quick lol, but it does look pretty

If you order you will be waiting for a very long time. You will be lucky if they don't cancel it 1:30h later without any reason.

I got caught in the great fire of Heathrow on March 21st and found my flight diverted to Amsterdam. I guess there are worse places to get dumped in! And there are worse restaurants that Pho 91 to take your evening meal in. I'm a self-confessed Pho connoisseur ever since the early 1990s when I sampled the finest that Pho 75 had to offer in Arlington, Virginia (and I understand it is still serving bowls of delicious after all these years). The number after the Pho usually signifies a key date (for example (19) 75 being the year of the fall of Saigon). The 91 ? I have no idea what it means - perhaps the year of opening or emigration of the family? Perhaps someone can enlighten me.... Anyway, being by yourself isn't great but I was soon cuddling up to a bowl of Pho Bo - beef and brisket (honestly, brisket they do so well). I got chatting to the couple on the next table and they had time to discuss their favourite Pho as well - and both thought this place was the best of the Pho restaurants they had visited. Anyway, I decided to splurge (the expense claim with BA will hopefully cover things....) and have the soft rolls as well. I'm picky about these little charmers, and my honest opinion was that while they were generous in diameter, they were rather heavy on the rice noodles and overly light on the good stuff (proteins, salad and sauces).....still good but could be so much better. Feeling flush, I celebrated with a cup of Vietnamese coffee - if you've never had it, go and grab one, they are special. However, this was solely because this place isn't licensed to serve, or doesn't serve, alcoholic drinks and, truth be told, a nice bottle of Saigon, 333, or even Tiger would have elevated the experience to even greater heights. I won't deduct any stars, as the Pho was so good, but it is a blemish nonetheless.

I lived in Vietnam, this is not Pho. If you've had real pho before you will be disappointed. If you've never had pho before you can get an idea of what it's like. They must be doing some shortcuts when it comes to making the broth. Vietnamese iced coffee was good though.

The vegan pho is great, especially if you have a cold.

PHO 91 is not bad, but there are better places in the city where they don’t skimp on ingredients, so I’m happy to go back there.

Tasty Pho, fast service. Restaurant could use some maintenance.
