Wonderful traditional café (i.e. Dutch pub) with interesting interior, located at the beginning of Zeedijk, very close to Amsterdam central station.

A real brown café. These types of cafés should always exist. The cozy Amsterdam humor splashes from the windows. A loss if you are not there. Bad rhyme, but it is correct.

Probably the oldest tasting room in Amsterdam. Still probably in its original condition. You order at the counter after patient, friendly advice. Sip the first sip from the brimming glasses at the bar and join the other guests in a small space. When the weather is nice you can also sit outside at a few tables in the narrow alley.

A really rustic Genever tasting room, mostly frequented by locals. For me it is a part of every visit to Amsterdam.

Amazing traditional Dutch bar! They sell many different types of beers and jenever (dutch Gin). There is an amazing atmosphere within the place, not only is the interior beautiful and the bartender very friendly, they also play classic Dutch folk music. A fun little tradition at this bar is that you can order a boiled egg as a snack, which was delicious! Definitely check them out if you want an authentic dutch drinking experience!

Can’t rate this place highly enough. We went for a drink, and ended up having the best experience. The woman behind the bar was incredible; knowledgeable, kind, and inclusive. If you come to Amsterdam and don’t come here, you haven’t really been to Amsterdam!! Also - when you’re trying the geneva; trust her judgement. She’ll steer you right!

Real authentic Amsterdam neighborhood café with many local residents as regular customers. Kapsones stays at the front door. Always cheerful and professional bartender/woman. In fact, the hostess/host does more justice to the staff. Very small pub with always tasty specialty beers on tap in addition to Heineken and Amstelpils. Right in the tourist heart and yet authentic; very special.

We really liked the brown bar. It lies in the middle of the tourist trails and is populated by very friendly Dutch people who are happy to band together for friendly tourists.

This was the PERFECT place to go to when I went there with my friend. He had never been to a brown cafe before and I wanted to show him an authentic Dutch brown cafe. De Ooievaar did not disappoint. But not only was it authentic as an old Van Gogh, the bar man and the people there were brilliant. So friendly, ever local we talked to was so very nice to us. One of them bought me a drink of jenever. They all shared stories and laughs and everything we drank was delicious. I wanted something a little special to drink as, well, this felt like a special time with my best friend there. So the bartender offered me 'Parrot Soup' liqueur and it really hit the spot. Almost impossible to accurately describe in flavour; maybe a nutty, pinny, maple sort of taste. I could waffle on about this place but just go see it for yourself.

AVOID THIS PLACE! Extremely rude personnel/owners. Clearly, they don't like tourist even if you are polite. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

We stopped here a few times on our short trip to the city. Vincent the barman recommended "Heaven on Earth" for my first taste of the locally distilled liquer and it didn't end there! What a joy this little place is. We didn't go too late so we always got a seat before heading off for dinner. Beautiful establishment to stop by and taste something different. The barmaid gave me the address of the local distillery so we could go buy our own to take home.

Wonderful Amsterdam pub. Near the red light district. Many different types of gin (from their own brand De Ooievaar) and other spirits and beers on tap and from the bottle.

Cozy tasting room, nice bartender, friendly service. And nice that you are recognized when you return on the same evening with a few hours in between 👍 Then you are doing well with the case.

The bartender is extremely friendly. Tells you everything about the spirits you need to know. Cozy bar, great welcoming atmosphere!

This little bar always seems busy, full of people having fun. Friendly staff who take pride in their work. This corner spot has a great atmosphere and is worth checking out. Food wise I think they just do the usual Dutch bar snacks. A great place to spend an afternoon, sat in the warm sipping a beer as the world drifts by in the busy streets.

Nice authentic cafe. We had a lot of fun, but of course you have to make it fun yourself. We enjoyed ourselves.

A good surprise in Amsterdam to drink beer

A fabulous place full of character, slightly off the beaten track. The staff are very friendly and helpful making the ambience intimate and immersive. The beer selection and recommendations outstanding. Well worth taking the time to seek out and visit.

Klein gezellig cafe op een mooie hoek. Fijne deskundige bediening en altijd fijne gasten om een praatje mee te maken. Het is een proeflokaal dus veel jenevers, maar ook een paar goede bieren op tap.

Small even by Amsterdam standards, this jenever tasting room also has 5-6 draft beers. Its worn wooden floorboards speak of history as does the wooden bar counter. Go, and drink in its atmosphere.

We had a great tasting with a very informative server. She explained how we were supposed to drink it in the proper Dutch fashion. She also walked us through the nuances of the four different Jenevers we sampled. According to its website, it is one of the smallest tasting rooms in the Netherlands. Looking around the room, I believe it probably is. We spent about an hour there and were entertained by the eclectic decorations, and a nice mix of 1950’s and 1960’s American Jazz and Rock.
