It looks nice at first glance, but what a terrible place. Huge disappointment!! After waiting 75 minutes and having just one drink, we left sadly. After the first drink, no one even looked at us once. The food didn't arrive, and ordering an extra drink was impossible. Eventually, we walked to the bar ourselves to make contact. The staff really didn't care, the "system" didn't work... this restaurant doesn't work, and their staff even less so. If you want to eat well, and feel appreciated and welcome as a customer, definitely do not go to Rixt in Nes. We have to give 1 star as a minimum, but that is already way too much!!

Nice, atmospheric terrace. Super friendly service. I only had a few beers of Amelander Blond here. Beautiful view of the tower of Nes and the center of Nes (or at least one of the streets). This was in October 2025. One year (September 2026) later, I visited again, this time for dinner. The weather was wonderfully sunny today, so I sat on the terrace in the evening. I was also lucky enough to have a very nice couple sitting next to me. 2.5 hours of pure fun with those people. The young lady who helped us at the table was also nice and very friendly. Lovely outside on the terrace by the fire. The quality of the food was also more than excellent. I chose the prawns as a starter and schnitzel as a main course. That was all a very good choice, enjoyed with the Amelander Blond. I thoroughly enjoyed my last evening on Ameland.

Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this restaurant. The food looked fantastic, but sadly, it didn't taste good. We were already wondering why the food was ready after only 4-5 minutes. Everything was just reheated; nothing was freshly grilled or prepared, everything was lukewarm. The disappointment came with the food itself. The XXL meat platter, surf and turf, and the lukewarm, roasted cauliflower on four dry lettuce leaves cost €15.

We were very disappointed with our visit to this restaurant. The service left much to be desired, and the prices are completely out of proportion to the quality. The food was a major letdown. The meat was much too heavily peppered and therefore unpleasant to eat. In fact, we did not enjoy the food at all. The restaurant is situated in a nice and good location in itself, but a good location does not compensate for poor service, mediocre food, and high prices. For this amount, we had expected much more. Unfortunately, we have no desire whatsoever to return here again.

The food was very bad. The Black Angus steak was so dry. The chicken breast was very dry. The food was completely tasteless. It is smoked on the terrace. The service was very chaotic.

The rudest service I have received in a long time. The waitress on duty had a very arrogant and customer-unfriendly attitude, which I didn’t expect from a tourist minded town.

Disaster, bad staff, long waiting times.

The food was good. The service was incredibly slow. We received our appetizers and main courses within 90 minutes. However, the restaurant was only about 70% full. Everyone, including the head waiter, repeatedly went back for empty plates, even though many tables weren't cleared for over 60 minutes. The kitchen staff also seemed completely unconcerned. And if we hadn't said anything, we wouldn't have received our side dishes either. I think the staff should know what they're serving the guests. I've never experienced such slow service anywhere. The restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel, and I suspect the staff knew that the tourists would come regardless. Because of this, providing good service wasn't a priority.

We had a delicious meal! We weren't served at first, so after 20 minutes we just walked inside... you can see that the staff really needs some direction, and they didn't have that here. The waiter was also wearing dirty trousers. I would recommend smart trousers for the waitstaff. It would look much neater and fresher. But otherwise, it was really good and the food delicious! Given that the prices are quite high, they really should be doing a bit better with the service, but despite that, we had a good experience.

Had a delicious dinner with excellent service from Doucha (hope I'm spelling your name correctly). The entire restaurant was packed, and we had to work a double shift with two people while still maintaining apparent composure. The charcuterie board and shared desserts are highly recommended!

Unfortunately, the experience was poor. The drink arrived after 45 minutes, and the food after 1.5 hours, by which time our neighbors were already having dessert. Our meals consisted of one fish dish (unfortunately oversalted) and one pasta dish with prawns (the pasta was unsalted and not very tasty). Elsewhere, salt and pepper are readily available on the tables, but not here. The waitress showed no interest in our meal and didn't ask if we were satisfied; she seemed to be aware of the issue...

We ate here using a voucher for a 'free' main course from our package at the Van Heeckeren Suites (which, of course, you simply end up paying for yourself afterwards). Unfortunately, our experience was quite mixed. We started with the charcuterie board as an appetizer, and we were both really enthusiastic about it. Incredibly tasty! Unfortunately, the charcuterie board as the main course was a bit of a letdown; we found it to be of clearly lower quality than the starter. Additionally, the service wasn't entirely smooth: the fries we had ordered didn't arrive until halfway through the main course. What really put us off were the prices. Charging €7 for half a liter of water in a can is simply ridiculous. Although we did enjoy the meal, it is not something we would return to. The price-quality ratio here is really skewed, especially when the drink prices are taken into account.

Just had a terribly bad meal at Rixt's. A (1) very very dead (small!) plaice fillet with a collection of overcooked vegetables around it that dogs wouldn't touch! And that for 29 euros! Unbelievable. Rip-off. This has nothing to do with tasty and fresh food. A disgrace!! Yuck!! And the service was rather very fast-talking. Much too fast and too loud chatter. The music was way too loud. It was turned down at our request but went back to disco volume after 5 minutes. A waste of our evening....

The price/quality ratio is out of balance. Salty food, no vegetables. Otherwise, the atmosphere and service are okay.

The service is friendly but not warm. The food is good/tasty, but very little for what you pay. You have to pedal hard to get the pieces of meat, and the side dishes consist of 2 small potatoes per person and 1/3 roasted bell pepper. This makes the menu very misleading. For €50 per person, I expect somewhat different portion sizes.

We ate there yesterday. Unfortunately, there were no tables available inside, but we made ourselves comfortable outside with a patio heater. We had mixed feelings about the food. The flatbread was tiny and cost €9. The gnocchi with tomato sauce were a disappointment; we could have made them just as well at home for €5. For €25, we expected more. The beetroot carpaccio and the chicken in peanut sauce were delicious. Overall, it was too expensive for what we got.

The woman who served us did a good job and was quick with the orders! I ordered Cod Tagine, but the amount of cod was very limited. We found the prices for our food to be very high for what we received. At least four tables around us remained cleared while we sat there; this didn't really give a good sense of hygiene.

Menu updated, chose beef tenderloin tips with mushrooms, onion, and teriyaki sauce and fries, but the fries were soaked in the sauce, making them unpleasant. Far too much sauce, making the dish neither tasty nor delicious; a shame.

Best meal on Ameland .. ever: delicious rendang, fall-off-the-bone spareribs, mega smash burger, flavorful tagine, nice round table with the family, and very friendly service. The menu is a bit on the pricey side, but with Van Heeckeren's Pre-Summer Deal, we spent less than €20 pp (incl. drinks and dessert).

We had dinner there yesterday and loved it. The food was very good and varied. The value for money is excellent. The service from all the waitresses was wonderful, especially Laila, who was very kind and friendly. We were lucky enough to meet Chef Pedro, and he was very pleasant. Highly recommended.

We ate at Rixt today. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant. The first thing we noticed that was negative was the lack of a drinks menu. There was a wine list, but none that listed the regular drinks, whether soft drinks, beer, or anything else. The woman who took our order couldn't speak Dutch or German. She could speak English, Spanish, Arabic, and several other languages. She didn't write down what we ordered and said she could remember it. Nevertheless, the wrong thing was delivered to our table twice during the evening. The food is ridiculously expensive. A simple burger costs €27 and comes with very basic fries. For my starter, I ordered naan bread. I know naan bread as a crusty bread. This was more like a flatbread. My first starter was French onion soup. French onion soup is usually served with bread and cheese. Here, we had soup. A piece of bread topped with cheese was served alongside. It tasted good, but it had nothing to do with French onion soup. For my main course, I chose an appetizer: roasted cauliflower. I received about a quarter of a cauliflower, cooked and topped with spices and roasted nuts. The whole thing cost €15. The restaurant's ambiance is beautiful. The service is very friendly.

Delicious food. Service in itself was fine with particularly friendly staff, but the table wobbled quite a bit and the polishing machine was broken: the wine glasses were covered in stains. Both were eventually resolved after reporting them and some delay. The charcuterie board is highly recommended.

Delicious food in a cozy, yet uncrowded restaurant. The only downside was the somewhat chaotic service, where the order was forgotten in the kitchen. Unfortunately, the Pornstar Martini was also served without passion fruit because they were out of it, without prior notice. For a €15 pre-mixed drink, we would have appreciated this beforehand.

Well, what can I say... because the Van Heeckeren chain had a Black Friday deal and a main course was included, we ate here. The grilled vegetables were cold, the fish very dry and small. The steak was tasty, but definitely not worth €39. We felt uncomfortable about having to sit near the doorway, even though there was plenty of room. It was said that these were reserved for four people. While that wasn't a problem for the people who came after us (even two people), it was just several tables that arrived after us. We had made reservations in advance! The wine, which is sold by the glass, is vastly overrated (€9.50 per glass). Looking at the reviews, they are mostly positive, but our experience was certainly not. Such a shame! I definitely wouldn't eat here again, because the value for money is lacking. The prices are typical of a top-notch restaurant, while this restaurant is just adequate. NB We encountered several Van Heeckeren staff members in various settings. These people work incredibly hard. Van Heeckeren deserves credit for that.

We received a friendly welcome. We had made a reservation, and our table was ready. We started with naan bread and aioli. It was nice and warm and very tasty. For my main course, I had the spare ribs. They were wonderfully tender and flavorful. It was a generous portion; I couldn't finish it all. We drank a white wine from AIX. We didn't have room for dessert. We had a Nobeltje as a nightcap. It was pleasantly busy, and we had a lovely evening.

It felt like a freezer, the service was too pushy; if it were up to her, you'd be out in half an hour. Placed an order but received something different than what's on the menu: spaghetti sold out!☹️ I could order something else, but I was told that this should have been mentioned beforehand and that the menu needs to be updated as well. What a disappointment.

The prices are really way too high for what you get. We ordered an XL charcuterie board for 3 people. What a disappointment. Very little meat, 5 small potatoes, the vegetables were also nowhere to be found, and we paid 96 euros for this misery just for the charcuterie board. I politely told the wait staff that we thought the food was really very little, and the rude waiter even went so far as to tell us that other people always find it too much. Sorry, may I laugh for a moment? A small piece of naan bread with a little spread for 9 euros is also a ridiculous price. They will never see us here again. You are better off spending your money somewhere else. Fortunately, there are still many restaurants on Ameland where you are served kindly and get something for your money.

Fine, but didn't make an impression. This restaurant has an extensive menu and serves very tasty food. Unfortunately, the prices are quite high and the service is disorganized. The wait staff operates with little to no direction and there is no communication between them. For example: within 2 minutes, two different waiters came to ask if more drinks were needed. Furthermore, it is a pity that the best wines are only sold by the bottle here. Moreover, these bottles are very pricey. A Lenotti Amarone della Valpolicella that is available online for €35 is sold here for €73. All in all, a fine experience, but for a special occasion, I advise you to look elsewhere.

A beautifully and comfortably furnished restaurant. The service was very friendly and attentive. The food arrived quickly and tasted delicious. However, the price-performance ratio wasn't quite right for our taste. Overall, a lovely evening.

The tables were too narrow and too close together. The sofa sagged, causing one person to sit crookedly while eating. When ordering, we indicated we'd first like a beer and a tonic with the naan bread. We also ordered the main course, which included a glass of red wine and a glass of rosé. The beer, tonic, and wine glasses were then placed on the table simultaneously, while the bread was still in the oven. After we pointed this out—in keeping with the trend of wine being served with the main course and now needing to come to room temperature—the staff started arguing with us, assuming that was our intention. So, a 33cl beer and a glass of rosé at the same time? Incidentally, they're charging €9.50 for a simple Provence rosé, which also had too little content. The food was decent, but nothing special, and when you have to pay €165.00 for a naan bread, two main courses, two desserts, and coffee, it's really excessive! P.s., I was here 5 years ago and it was good then.......

We were guests at Rixt's with a dining voucher from Hotel van Heeckeren, part of an autumn package. The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant are cozy and inviting. That was a nice start to the evening. I chose the surf & turf, but unfortunately, the dish was very disappointing. The garlic with the prawns was so bitter that it completely overpowered the taste, and the prawns were dry. It seemed as if the garlic was old or had been prepared too far in advance. The meat, listed on the menu as Black Angus, looked more like a tournedos to me. It was cooked pale, too raw, tasteless, and not nicely seared. The fries were a hodgepodge of double-fried and regular ones and tasted as if the fryer needed replacing. The cucumber salad was also downright poorly seasoned. At one point, we wondered if the quality of the ingredients was poor or if the kitchen staff didn't know how to prepare this tastefully. What struck us was that the kitchen brigade seemed very young. They did their best, but we felt a lack of knowledge, skill, and experience. It felt as though the dishes were prepared primarily for appearances, without genuine care, flavor, or love for cooking. The service itself was friendly and fine. We ordered another portion of fries, but that didn't solve anything either. To our surprise, we also had to pay extra for the side dishes. To us, this felt strange. As far as we are concerned, a main course should be complete; otherwise, it isn't really a main course anymore. Because we are light eaters, we had planned in advance to order a main course and dessert. However, after this experience, we skipped dessert. We had had enough. In short: a cozy place, but the kitchen lacks knowledge, skill, and love for cooking. Unfortunately, for us, this was not a successful dining experience.

We wanted to end our last supper on Ameland on a high note, or so we thought. We had a table outside by the cozy open fire and under the patio heater. Perfectly fine! We had the tasting menu, which was tasty in itself, but far too much. Some pieces of meat were overcooked and buried in the sauce... unfortunately. Service also took a very long time, even though the restaurant was quite empty. We didn't receive any explanation of what we were being served; well, that must have been the idea behind the tasting menu? Also, the wine pouring was done with 45 measures. In short... reasonable, but for us, this was the first and also the last time at Rixt's 🫩

The staff was distant and not customer-focused. We ordered the XXL meat platter, and the quality was very poor. The steak was tough, the spareribs were rubbery, and the chicken was dry. A disappointment for us.

chose the chef's menu (4 courses) and it was particularly tasty! the dessert, something with nuts and whisky, was exceptionally good! too bad the service only speaks English This week 2nd visit, it was very busy, too few staff, again no Dutch-speaking staff and this time a lot went wrong, saw at various tables that things were not going as they should, the people next to us received what we had ordered, by the time that was discovered our food was half cold, my wife got sick during the night (from the satay?) this time was certainly not a success.

Had a very delicious meal this evening, September 10th. The service was very friendly and attentive. The food was plentiful and well prepared. The table is the only downside = just not quite big enough.

After entering, there was a long wait before a staff member paid attention and showed us to a reserved (!) table. Then, it took half an hour for someone to actually take our order. The food looked good and tasted delicious, but both main courses had a crucial ingredient missing (for example, the couscous with a tahini dish). Prices were reasonable. The staff spoke mostly no Dutch or Frisian, so explaining that something was missing from the dish was practically impossible. Was it busy? No!

A very nice restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere and two cozy terraces. What makes this building special is that it borders a street on both the front and the back. As a result, you have a terrace on both sides, which immediately gives it a unique character. At the front, you sit comfortably on the street side, where there is always something to see, and at the back, there is just as much of a terrace where you can also sit comfortably. The staff is friendly, and the service is polite and attentive. You feel welcome as soon as you enter, and everything is taken care of with an eye for detail. The dishes are truly delicious, well prepared, and beautifully presented. Clearly, attention has been paid to quality and taste. The wines also pair excellently and complete the experience perfectly. A nice spot in the center of Nes, where, thanks to the pleasant service, the good cuisine, and the unique location with two terraces, you can have a truly enjoyable evening. Absolutely recommended for anyone who loves good food and a relaxed atmosphere.

Constructive feedback for a fantastic concept The Van Heeckeren group has a large presence on Ameland. Since we were staying at the hotel, we received a voucher for a free snack at Rixt restaurant. Since we liked the Grand Café, we decided to eat at Rixt. The restaurant is beautiful. Attention has clearly been paid to the appearance, both inside and out. The service (mainly English-speaking) is unfortunately not very fast or accurate. Drink orders arrive after about 10 minutes, which is really too slow for a restaurant. We ordered the Rixt menu. We started with bruschetta. The balsamic and tomato flavors are good, but it's a shame that the rolls are toasted beforehand. This makes them very tough when served. It might be an idea to toast them a la minute. This gives them much more crunch and flavor. Then came the appetizer: a tasting of various meat dishes. The carpaccio was very good, but (way too) peppery. However, the steak tartare lacked salt and pepper. Just like the amuse-bouche, the rolls were also pre-toasted and tough. The salami with pickled onion was excellent, as was the ham with (the same?) tomato garnish. The main course: a fish platter (meat was also an option, we chose fish). The shrimp pasta was good, with large shrimp and a generous portion of well-seasoned pasta. Cod with fennel was also on offer. The cod was nicely cooked and seasoned, but the fennel wasn't cooked through. The fish (sole fillets, I wouldn't know) was battered. A kind of Igloo 2.0. A real shame, a dry piece of fish. Perhaps just fry it in (possibly seasoned) oil, then you'd taste some of the product. It came with blanched vegetables (bell pepper, bimi, mushrooms). Otherwise, it lacked any flavor. The platter was served with potatoes. Perfectly cooked, but almost cold. The dessert was also a tasting experience, and we thought it was excellent. However, there was a tub of ice cream (vanilla and caramel) with whipped cream and an Oreo-like topping. Very tasty otherwise, but the waiter explained it as a "child's ice cream." We thought that was rather unusual. Just tell them what the flavors are. A "child's ice cream" is simply not possible for €49 per person. In conclusion, we don't think this menu is worth it. It's all just not quite right. Either downsize the menu and focus on quality, because in terms of products, it really is there; or adjust a few key elements (like salt and pepper and doneness) and keep going. Judging by the other reviews, there are others who feel the same way.

The staff was terrible. Absolutely no hospitality experience. Dishes were placed on the corner of the table without explanation. Something really needs to change here.

We had to wait over an hour to get our meals, then we were maximum disappointed. We took the local hit - de vleesplank - and took it even in the xxl version (appr. 39€ pP). What came was a little plate, barely enough for one person but it should be for two. It was so ridiculous that we just had to laugh out loud, but in fact it was a sad thing, worth max 15-18€ pP. For two persons 4-5 thin slices of steak, 4 bones of spareribs, a bit of sate and something else. The vegetables were hard to find. Minimum input, maximum output, but only for the Restaurant

We sat at a table for two by the fireplace, with others behind and next to us. It's very cramped and noisy when several people are talking. You can hear every conversation around you. The food was okay, though. The drinks were really good! The surrounding area is beautiful.

The food is delicious, but you shouldn't be in a hurry or want to eat quickly. We waited over 20 minutes for a starter (naan bread) because it wasn't busy and it was later in the evening. The food was delicious but pricey.

We had a reservation and were shown to our table. After two minutes, someone else came and asked what we wanted. Shortly after, a third person came and asked for our order, even though we hadn't received a menu. There's no drinks menu, presumably by design given the wine prices. Only when we were about to order did we learn that the top dishes (Black Angus, Surf and Turf) were sold out—at 8:00 PM. As a substitute for the Black Angus on the platter, they offered ribs. The quality of our food was mediocre, and the service was poor. Therefore, it was terrible value for money.

Once, but never again. Appallingly bad service. Inattentive. We were the only table having lunch, but had to wait almost 45 minutes for our food. The staff also paid little attention to us. I had to call the waitress twice for a cup of tea with milk and sugar. The first time for sugar, the second time for milk. Then came the next surprise. I paid €19 per person for a meat platter that was completely out of place for the price. Yes, it tasted quite good, but I expected more for the price. A 45-minute wait for something that takes 5 minutes to prepare. All in all, a terrible experience.

We've been here several times, and I'm tempted to write a review now, because I find it very striking that the service is truly subpar. It consistently takes far too long, every time we've been here. From the moment we arrive, to being greeted first, to being served. It really takes too long, even when it's quiet. We do think the food is very good! The staff isn't unfriendly, but this is really starting to bother me. Especially with young children who have absolutely no patience. Van Heeckeren, the Harbor, and the Sunset are all owned by the same owner, but their service is truly superior. We did receive compensation after complaining, which is kind, of course, but we'd much rather give a tip for good service!

We had an excellent dinner. The chef menu and the hamburguer were delicious! Thanks to the whole team, both kitchen and waiters. We will repeat for sure!

Hi... we had dinner at Rixt. The onion soup was very salty (I think the cook dropped the salt shaker). It wasn't busy at all, but we had to wait a very long time for our first drink. The steak main course was good, though a bit small. We didn't realize there were no garnishes. The waitress didn't even ask if we wanted any! They didn't even bother to ask if we were enjoying it or if everything was okay. We got someone else's bill. It took a long time for the hostess to intervene (she was chatting with people she probably knew). No apology was offered when we paid. It was all unprofessional, which is a shame, because the prices are ridiculous. 😔

Great food and friendly service

We enjoyed our first dinner on Ameland at Rixt. We loved the ambiance. However, the dinner was disappointing and far too expensive for what we received. We ordered the meat platter to share, with rendang, steak, and oriental chicken. The chicken wasn't warm; I had no idea what was oriental about it, and the texture on the outside was strange. The mushrooms were also cold. After mentioning this, they did receive new ones, but the chicken was still strange. The price for a single glass of wine was absurdly high, at 9 euros. The staff was friendly.

We received a warm welcome. We were even given an amuse-bouche to try. The main courses were delicious. The chicken was tender. We will definitely be back!

Great food, maybe a bit expensive for what it was. Food could have been a bit warmer, but friendly and fast service and cozy with a fireplace.

Overall the taste of the food was fine. (We ordered the meat platter). However, the whole process is very messy and unstructured. Our main course was first served at 3 other tables. This also caused the food to get cold quickly. And we changed the bottle of wine that we wanted with dinner to 2 glasses halfway through the main course. Because it came so late. After the main course we left the establishment and enjoyed the desert elsewhere.

The food we got was good. But unfortunately, the meal was missing products that were on the menu. The red wine is also not tasty... the white wine was good!

Shame…. Far too narrow tables that are far too close together and in the most undesirable places. It was uncomfortably cold in the restaurant during our visit. Sometimes I wonder whether an owner/operator is also able to find a balance between customer and entrepreneurial perspectives. The hostess was friendly and went out of her way to serve all guests properly. The dishes we had were tasty. But it is strange that you have to buy additional dips with nan bread as a 'starter'.

We had dinner there tonight and to be honest it was quite a disappointment. You have to order the dip for the naan bread in advance and for 8 euros you really get a very meager portion. Our main course was the xxl meat board, which had little xxl in it, for that price you expect a bit more. In addition, both the chicken and the pork belly were very dry, the steak was overcooked and the rendang (very tasty by the way!) was somewhere between lukewarm and cold. The fries, which had to be ordered separately for an exaggerated price, also lacked any taste. The icing on the cake is the "dessert", a dish of tiramisu that we waited more than an hour for, and after drawing our attention to the otherwise very friendly and helpful service, the dish was on the table within a few seconds. This was clearly already ready in a refrigerator somewhere, judging by both the final speed of delivery and the dehydration of the "dessert". At the end you pay 105 euros for 2 people and the feeling comes over you, what for? This was our 2nd time there, but what a negative difference from the 1st time. Second but last time I think.
