A cozy place in the purest Amsterdam style: simple, friendly and welcoming. They have a great selection of Jenevers and other distillates and interesting Franconian beers. The bartender was very friendly and helpful to suggest the ideal drinks for our taste. This is the place to go to experience the real spirit of Amsterdam, a must go for every visitor.

Super friendly service, and not in your face. My first ever Genever. And some tasty beer. Small.and intiment. Highly recommended.

Old style bar. Wooden interiors. Some look quite old some newer but all in the same style. Had a jenever, and the bar man immediately gave me a great suggestion. Along with a beer this was an excellent stop.

Tod from below comment, this comment is addressed to you directly (and whoever might be concerned). I actually saw you there that evening — and you definitely didn’t witness the whole situation. So your comment seems more like a friendly attempt to defend your bartender friend rather than an honest account of what really happened. We’ve been regular customers here for over a year and always liked the atmosphere — until that incident. To clarify: this place never offers more than ossenworst and cheese, and that evening even the ossenworst was sold out. We asked about food, were told only cheese was available, and my friend didn’t want cheese, so she got something small from the place next door and ate it outside, on the terrace. Then the bartender came out and rather rudely told us we couldn’t eat our own food. We immediately said, “Okay, should we leave?” and he said, “No, but next time ask first.” However, when I went to order more beers a few minutes later, he simply refused to serve us and said, “Guess why.” We’d actually prefer to discuss things like this in person, not here on Google — but since someone decided to post a completely false version of what happened, we felt we had to respond. In every normal bar, if there’s no food available, it’s absolutely fine for guests to eat something small from elsewhere, especially when they’re still buying your beer. If you have problems with stock or food organization, that’s a management issue — not a customer’s fault. And finally, the bartender shouldn’t act like a super boss when his service speed resembles that of a snail. P.S. never had any issues with any other bartenders before, love all of them P.P.S. All my friends also love this place, and when I told them about what happened, they immediately asked, “Who was the guy?” And when I described him, their reaction was, “Aaaah, that one — he’s been working there for just a few weeks or maybe a month. We didn’t like his attitude either.” So if the owners are reading this, please take it into consideration. We’re not trying to start a fight here — we honestly don’t even know how else to address it. But we were really disappointed by the way this situation was handled.

Don’t listen to Katya Gopher. She came in asking for Ossenworst that was all sold out. She was offered cheese or other food normal for a proeflokaal but decided to buy food from a neighbouring restaurant to eat in the bar without asking.. all of the locals laughed at her poor behaviour and attitude.

We used to be a regular customers here for more than a yean. But since that new bartender named Taber ( not sure if I'm spelling it correctly), came, we have to stop visiting. We were extremely hungry, and wanted to order some regular snaks here, but it was all sold out, so we catched food from the place next door. But Taber was strongly disagree with it(even we sat outside),and he just refused to serve more beers to us. I guess it's extremely unprofessional. We really tried to order food here, but he basically didn't have it. Guess we won't come here anymore.

Great little bar - cosy interior, decent amount of seating outside if the weather is nice and knowledgable barman who was happy to recommend a few drinks.

Excellent and very pleasant bar, hidden next to a very busy street, we had génépi and beer, both excellent, the bartender who manages the establishment is really very nice, he was able to recommend drinks to us (not the most expensive) and was very patient with the language 🫶

This is one of those bars that truly stand out. Relaxed yet buzzy atmosphere. A very knowledgeable and friendly host who somehow managed to find time for every customer despite a full house. Selection of beers is terrific. The range of their own distilled jenevers even better. In a city full to the brim with great bars, this one will be my first port of call on my next visit. And the kicker: their prices for top quality products are less than what you'll pay in most nearby venues for standard drinks. Winner!

Great place close to the red light district but still very quiet on the canal! Good gin and delicious beer + old cheese and pickled onions!

A traditional bar/pub offering a wide selection of German beers, perfect for enjoying a quiet drink. We arrived around 3pm on a Friday when it was empty but by 4pm, the tables quickly filled up. The bartender was so friendly, talking us through the beer options and giving recommendations based on our taste preferences

Really great cozy bar, with an amazing selection of German lagers. They are also specialized in jenever, but that's not my jam, so I can't judge. Service is also really good. No food avaliable except cheese, dried sausage, and peanuts.

This is truly one of the reasons to come back to Amsterdam. Amazing beer variety with Lambics and Franconian lagers, which are arguably best styles in the world right now they go hand in hand with one of the best in class craft liquors in a glass you can imagine to accompany your beer. The place might be a clear definition of "cosy bar". Can't wait to get there again and ask for blackcurrant drink with my kellerbier

A few meters away from 'the hell that is the Red Light District', a cozy tasting room, without music and with friendly service. An excellent range of drinks.

Delicious German beers and home-brewed gin. An innkeeper who thinks along and knows what you like. Being helped in Dutch in the middle of Amsterdam. Where else can you find that? Had a very pleasant afternoon.

Great pub with a living room feeling

Cannot say enough about this bar. It should be an institution. A neighborhood gathering spot. It was so great that I had to return, which I rarely do at any establishment. Great location next to a canal and right off of a very busy/touristy street. An escape from the crowds, it's like you time warp into an older time when a barkeep was like the local mayor. The options and the quality are off the charts. They make their own spirits, some unique genever, carry some other great European booze, and the highlight is the German beer offerings, both draft and bottle. They had stuff I can't even find in Germany! For food, a small board of old cheese and fresh salami is available. Everyone who comes in is genuine and they're for good company and good drink. I can confidently say this is one of the best bars in Amsterdam and it was certainly one of my best memories from my visit to a great city.

Na een trieste ervaring bij Wynand fockinck werden we gewezen op dit proeflokaal om de hoek. Wat een verademing was dit! Geweldige plek met mooie jenevers, lekkere pilsjes en een topvent achter de bar. Hij was relaxed, behulpzaam en geen greintje arrogantie te bespeuren. Voor een ieder: sla Wynand over en ga hier heen.

Klein en een gezellig kroegje waar je lekker kan zitten én kan praten, en waar geen muziek wordt gedraaid. Wij hadden een likeurtje Venusolie én een biertje. Toch blij dat ‘t Kelkje niet ten onder is gegaan met de pandemie

Duitse bieren en Amsterdamse likeuren!

A wonderful place, no music - only conversation, and a most hospitable barman with a most envious selection of German and Czech beer and Dutch jenever. We tried some, were served and drank some and took a bottle (black currant) back to Poland with us. When we come back to do the other museums, we'll visit the naughty part of town only so thal we'll come here again.

Heerlijk. Geen muziek, goed Duits pils, een rustig praatje, een rijke selectie jenevers. Bier tot zijn essentie teruggebracht, een destillaat in alles; hier het goede en verder niks.

A very low key Beer and Gin/ Jenever spot right downtown. The beer was excellent and served in Steins, the atmosphere was casual and had a nice neighborly feel, and the service (Tim) was excellent, we enjoyed it so much we went twice!

Eén van de beste biercafés van Nederland. Het personeel weet veel van bier en kan je altijd aan een goede keuze helpen.

Pequeño lugar fuera de los canales, luminoso y bien ambientado. Elección de alrededor de 30 licores localmente destilados (cada uno con su propia historia) o Genveers, que es un tipo de ginebra. Además de cervezas artesanales. Así que un poco especialista pero muy divertido.

Mucha variación entre las cervezas alemanas y checas, también poseen licores y genevers destilados. Salchichas locales y queso.

¡Este pequeño bar está en el borde del distrito de luz roja y fue un lugar genial! Un lugar perfecto para probar docenas de sabores diferentes de ginebra holandesa (genever). Recomiendo encarecidamente la ginebra de tarta de manzana o la de canela. Definitivamente no soy un fanático de la ginebra, ¡pero estoy después de esta experiencia! El hombre que trabajaba en el bar era genial y nos dio sus recomendaciones sobre lo que deberíamos intentar y, como los únicos estadounidenses que estaban allí, ¡todos nos estaban enseñando a beber la ginebra!

Alguna vez has querido probar todo tipo de ginebra holandesa (ginebra) y luego visitar este lugar. Lo hacen en muchas variedades y también en la holandesa, cuando estás pensando en algo dulce. Además, Tim sirve cerveza de barril de Alemania. No te vayas sin un gusto (o una botella) de su famoso Tim Gin o pídele a Tim que te haga su tipo de gin & tonic.
