The food itself tasted good. We ordered bisque and a salad as starters, followed by fish and duck confit for the mains, and the flavors were enjoyable. However, the service completely ruined the experience. We arrived at 13:10 (with reservation) when the restaurant was only about half full. Despite that, we waited almost 50 minutes for the starters, and then another 40 minutes after finishing the starters for the mains to arrive. We ended up spending nearly 2 hours in the restaurant, not because we were enjoying ourselves, but simply waiting and waiting for food. To make things worse, when the bisque was served by a male staff member in a suit, he placed the bowl on the table without providing a spoon and left. We waited patiently for about 5 minutes to see if he would come back with one, but he never did. This level of inattentiveness was very disappointing (I added the photo of clearly no spoon on the table when he served us the soup). Some of the other staff members were friendly and had a good service attitude, but overall the service was far too slow. Even though the food tasted good, it was not worth the long wait, and unfortunately this made the overall experience very poor.

We visited on Christmas Day and, unfortunately, the experience was disappointing due to the service rather than the food. From the start, the service felt careless. When pouring tap water, the waiter struck the wooden table loudly with the jug, creating an unpleasant noise in an otherwise calm setting. Later, the waiting time between courses became very long. When I politely asked whether we could move on to the next course, the waiter responded by telling me I should not ask such a question and that it was his role to decide when to proceed, which felt unnecessary and dismissive. Another uncomfortable moment occurred when my friend, who is new to the Netherlands, tried to get the waiter’s attention by waving her hand. While this may not follow local etiquette, the waiter corrected her bluntly, saying that in the Netherlands one should not do this. The way it was communicated made her feel embarrassed rather than guided. It is the second time to post this review because the first one was hidden by Google.

The food for a 6-course Christmas dinner was not up to par. This is not the food standard for Amsterdam. It was all extremely dry, no use of sauces. Everything was under-seasoned, no use of Pernod in the Bisque, and the soup hasn’t been sieved through a finer sieve as I tasted tiny pieces of shell. I could go on but definitely not recommending this as a chef myself.

Pretty good place with a slightly elevated experience for a fair price. The steak is excellent, and the fries on the side are perfectly crispy without being greasy. The staff is attentive and kind, and the interior is clean, stylish, and modern. I can definitely recommend this restaurant.

Came a few months ago and had a poor experience for my partners birthday. Food was good, but service was slow and inattentive. Worst is that the birthday chocolate dessert they made was delivered to another table and by the time the mistake was identified and it came to us it was cold and the waiting staff just chalked it off as a “mistake”. Personally would’ve expected a newly made dessert to be made. Difficult to rate as that really soured our experience but understand the otherwise glowing reviews

After a warm welcome on a cold and windy day, we were brought to an excellent table to have our dinner, 5 guests all together. A seductive winelist,and a lot of dishes on the menu that we would like to eat,made it a promissing start. Service is very good,attentie, quick when needed and relaxed when possible. All guests enjoyed their choice of dishes, the salmon,steak tartare, heek and fillet of beef. Proud with all the empty plates at the end, the waitress was smiling with us . What a wonderful dinner,in a nice ambience. Thank you all , kitchen and service,for this dinner at your Brasserie.

We made a reservation for our 2 year anniversary. We were going from Boston, USA. The experience, the food, the staff, the music, the place, the ambient, the atmosphere, the decoration, the view, the location; every single detail of this place was AMAZING. The staff that accompanied our celebration were the most incredible people ever. I don’t have a single complain or recommendation for this place. The whole menu was delicious, we ordered entrees, main course, desserts, drinks, they even gave us couple some drinks to celebrate. You guys were amazing and really made our night magic. We will be back one day for sure.

Very beautiful setting. Average service: the waiter gave us the wine list and waited for our order without giving us the food menu! The bill included a bottle of wine for €45, even though we only ordered three individual glasses of wine (which were included in the bill). The waiter reached in front of me every time to serve my neighbor! Lukewarm and bland fish casserole. In short, a bad experience.

I was pleasantly surprised with this wonderful French restaurant nestled along its accompanying hotel in a quiet street along one of Amsterdam's many romantic canals. The ambiance was romantic and charming, the walls adorned with a carefully curated and captivating collection of Cobra art, reminiscent of American neo-expressionistic and contemporary genres. The food was superb, with the menu comprising a relatively modest but carefully curated set of traditional french and Mediterranean dishes. I am a big fan of the Parisian "confit du canard" (pictured here). I have to say that I was very skeptical of the dish upon first impression - the skin was not crispy nor did it have the deep caramelization associated with its traditional counterpart. Biting into it however, it was clear that the chef had chosen instead for a sous vide preparation - a first for me - which gave the meat inside a firmer yet moist - almost "ham" flavor and consistency - that not only kept the same delicious flavor I have come to love of this dish but elevated it in a novel dimension I had yet to experience. This was a big success and a most welcome surprise. Great dish! My wife's dish - a pesto-citron italian inspired ravioli - was also incredible. It was very al dente as it should be and packed with flavor infused by a combination of olive oil, calamata olives, tomatoes, pesto, citron, and of course, ricotta. Delicious! The red wines by the glass comprised a small yet well curated list of french and italian wines - I had a 2024 St. Emillion for 11 euros that had all of the familiar aromas of the Bordeaux favorite. One of my favorite parts of the evening was Albert, our waiter. We had several engaging conversations with him and to say the least, he made this a most memorable night. Not only did he give insight into the culinary scene in Amsterdam but also gave us a tour of the hotel's charming bibliotheque and lounge - and the many wonderful works of art illustrating its walls. He wishes us goodbye in the most gracious fashion - walking with us to the door and shaking our hands. This is service of the highest caliber - one we have come to expect only from some of the very finest dining experiences out there. It was genuine and charming, and made for a beautiful night. I give this restaurant two big thumbs up. Thanks Albert!

Servicio inexistente. ¡Sin asistencia! Peor que “Fawlty Towers”. La comida era buena. El vino estaba agotado. ¡Se pidió otro vino y se sirvió sólo para el anfitrión de la fiesta de las 7! No se ofrecía agua. No se llevaron botellas vacías. Se pidió café - pero se necesitaron unos 20 (! ) para el restaurante (que ni siquiera estaba medio lleno) para servirlo! ¡Toda la experiencia fue un DESASTRE! NO es un lugar recomendable para cenar!

At Ambassade, you immediately feel welcome. A warm, personal welcome and a delightful host for the entire evening. A sommelier advises on wine selection. The setting in the building on the Herengracht is beautiful, with lovely Cobra art on the walls and beautiful chandeliers. We were able to chat comfortably, without being boisterous. The food was excellent, with a lovely menu featuring French cuisine and excellent wines. In short, a successful evening, congratulations!

This restaurant is in an upscale hotel with prices to match, and the food is incredible. We started with awesome escargot and a superb seafood bisque. The special was swordfish, perfectly cooked. The duck was given rave reviews as well. They have a good wine list, and a friendly and attentive staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening there.

We had fond memories of our visit to Brasserie l'Ambassade four years ago, and we couldn't wait to return. The setting is still as splendid as ever, with its breathtaking view of the canals. Unfortunately, this second visit disappointed us a little. The service was friendly but disorganized: several errors in the order and long waits between courses. As for the food, the oysters were excellent and very fresh, but the rest of the dishes were simply okay, nothing more. We hope our experience was simply an "off" day, as the place has a lot of potential. A better focus on service and consistency of dishes would make all the difference.

The restaurant is part of a boutique hotel right by the canal, and the atmosphere was elegant and peaceful. There are a couple of window seats with a fantastic view – perfect natural lighting and a calm setting. It wasn’t crowded on a weekday, mostly hotel guests. We ordered a set meal and shared a starter. The main dish I had was duck, which surprisingly reminded me of Beijing roast duck – very flavorful and well-prepared.

This is what you do - you get their fig goat cheese salad for your starter, the steak frites for the main, and you close it with their crème brûlée. Thats it. And then you just go out and enjoy your day.

A Wonderful Lunch at Brasserie Ambasade I had lunch at Brasserie Ambasade with a few colleagues, and it turned out to be a delightful experience. Situated right in the city center, the brasserie looks fairly modest from the outside—but once inside, it reveals a spacious, elegant interior that’s both stylish and inviting. The ambiance struck a great balance: refined without being overly formal, making it well-suited for both business lunches and more relaxed occasions. Service was good, staff were attentive, professional, and warm, which added to the overall positive impression. I ordered the ravioli with green asparagus and ricotta, which was beautifully prepared and full of fresh, delicate flavors. While we didn’t sample the wine (midday meetings awaited), the wine list looked extensive and well thought out, definitely something to return for in the evening. If there’s one small suggestion: the bread offered as an appetizer could use a bit more attention to match the quality of the rest of the meal. All in all, Brasserie Ambasade is a place I’d happily recommend. Lovely setting, capable staff, and excellent food—right in the heart of the city.

We were here yesterday for dinner on our last evening in Amsterdam, actually stumbled upon it a bit by chance, given that the places serving typical Dutch cuisine were all full (thanks to Friday evening and King's Day). The environment is formal, but not set, at the same time welcoming, refined and relaxing. The staff and the head nurse were all very kind. But let's get to the highlight: the dinner was delicious. The limited menu (always appreciable from my point of view) offers dishes which, despite an apparently "simple" description, prove to be perfectly executed and with an excellent taste. From last night's menu, I particularly recommend the vol-au-vents with chicken and chanterelles and the goose as a second course, the latter characterized by a complete and impeccable balance of flavours. The desserts, judging by the ones we saw passing by, must have been excellent, but we were already satisfied and sufficiently full. Finally, a note of merit also goes to the bill, lower than our expectations and at the same time absolutely in line with the experience offered.

We went for Easter Brunch and were lucky to be seated right by the window—an absolutely amazing spot. The brunch itself was plentiful and delicious, featuring fresh orange juice and a bottle of cava to celebrate the occasion. One of the most remarkable aspects of this place is its impressive art collection, showcasing original works from the COBRA movement. Don’t miss the Library Bar either—it’s a hidden gem, with over 5,000 signed books from authors who have stayed at the hotel. A truly memorable experience all around.

Upon entry, our jackets were taken with care, which immediately sets the tone: impeccable service. The setting is refined, as is the cuisine, both delicious and careful. The staff is warm, attentive and helpful, making the experience as elegant as it is friendly. Sure, the prices are a little high, but the experience is well worth it. Excellent food and service. I made the mistake of eating my bread before my terrine arrived but it was absolutely delicious all the same. I had the duck confit and the skin was perfectly crispy. They have an excellent selection of wine available by the glass so you can switch at your leisure.

We were guests at the Hotel and had breakfast in the restaurant. We also made a few visits to the library bar. The hotel was well run, the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The entire week was a wonderful experience. If we travel back to Amsterdam we will stay here again!

Cute and romantic French food corner in Amsterdam

Outstanding service and a great food! It was a last minute decision to book Brasserie Ambassade for my birthday celebration. We wanted a nice place with water views and online ai recommended the Basserie. Made reservation just 1.5 hrs ahead of time asking for a window seat for our special celebration. They were very nice and extremely accommodating. Abdullah gave us very warm and excellent service. Everyone - the host and all servers very outstanding. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. The decor and overall restaurant ambiance was delightful, along with the canal views. This was the perfect choice for our birthday celebration dinner.

( thank you for the brochures and information given when I asked about it to the waiting staff) An absolute highlight of the trip to Amsterdam.

A menudo no otorgo cinco estrellas, pero esta fue realmente una muy buena experiencia. My friend had made a reservation at Brasserie Ambassade especially for Valentine's Day and opted for the Valentine's menu, expecting it to be a well-composed and attractive meal. Unfortunately it turned out to be a complete disappointment. The three courses seemed completely out of sync. The sea bass salad was literally floating in lemon juice, the pulled pork was way too salty and was served with half-cooked potatoes. The dessert was rock hard and made with cheap chocolate – anything but a refined ending. The service was also substandard. There was no attention paid to our table at all; no explanation was given as to what was on our plate and the staff seemed hasty and disinterested. My partner had not had wine for a while, but we were not asked if we wanted anything else to drink or what a suitable wine would be with the dish. When we indicated that the flavors were not right and everything seemed prepared in a hurry, we were simply ignored - both at the table and when leaving. No excuses, no interest, just nothing. For a brasserie like this you would at least expect respect and a little attention for the customer, but that was hard to find here. An absolute disappointment and certainly not recommended.

Absolutely fantastic place to go for cozy and quiet dinner. I liked the atmosphere and design. We had Oysters and Duck and Sea Bass. They were really delicious. Some cheeses and my rum pineapple dessert were perfect to finish the dinner. Great wines choices and cocktails, fantastic. Especially the “Perfect Manhattan”, it was really perfect. Additionally great, helpful and fast stuff. The prices are also really good. For the quality thet you will receive they are actually a bit low. So, I will come back for sure with more friends.

Ik werd bij mijn ontvangst direct ontvangen door de gastheer die mij een tafel liet uitkiezen naar keuze. Aan tafel heb ik meteen een glas champagne besteld waarna ik direct de menukaart kreeg. Voor mijn diner ben ik als vooraf gegaan voor een half dozijn oesters. De oesters hadden een enorm aangename bite, licht nootachtig van smaak en een voortreffelijke combinatie met de champagne. Als hoofdgerecht koos ik voor een klassieker van Ambassade, confit de canard. In combinatie met hun pinot noir uit de Bourgogne krijgt het gerecht voldoende body, waardoor ik door en door heb genoten. Afsluitend koos ik voor het dessert met amandelcake, Frangelico en koffie-ijs. In combinatie met hun fijne dessertwijn uit de Jura die subtiele fruitige en kruidige tonen weerspiegelde, was dit een aangename ervaring op dit gerecht. Kortom, ik heb een enorm prettige avond beleefd bij Ambassade. Enorm vriendelijk personeel, die de gehele avond openstaan voor een gesprek en graag hun passie delen over het werkveld waarin zij zich bevinden. Ik kom hier graag terug!
