Restaurant Baylings in Binnenstad

We had mixed feelings about our dinner at Baylings. When we first walked in, the lobby felt cozy, but we were greeted rather poorly by a waitress who didn’t seem very experienced. Unfortunately, the food was served cold and the staff in general didn’t appear very enthusiastic. When it came time for dessert, the fork and spoon were just tossed in front of us instead of being placed neatly, which felt unprofessional. It’s a nice restaurant in terms of atmosphere, but sadly, our overall experience was disappointing.

We had our retirement celebration at Baylings, what a fantastic location and everyone was provided with delicious snacks and drinks, truly wonderful.

The food is tasty, but the portions of the main course don't even reach the level of an appetizer, and the price for 4 main courses and 4 drinks €135.00 is inadequate value for money. Unfortunately. We won't be back and can't recommend it!!!

They really do their best to accommodate dietary requirements. I really appreciated that.

Nachos are really worth it, 11€ and you get a huge plate of nachos which can get 4 people full. On the other side the Baylings Bigbites are 15€ but you get almost nothing for that, so definitely would not recommend those. Waiting times are also pretty long. Waiters are friendly and you can sit on a boat next to the water. Cocktails are also tasty.

Super friendly and knowledgeable staff, who were also personal and attentive. We arrived with four adults and two young children on a Monday afternoon and received fantastic service, even while we were sitting down on the boat. The salmon salad was tasty, but could have had a bit more vegetables and flavor. The pulled chicken sandwich, on the other hand, was very tasty and subtle. The location was fantastic, of course. All in all, a wonderful experience — I would definitely return.

We had lunch yesterday, we were on the boat, which looked cozy. Carpaccio salad is definitely not a proper salad. A bit of lettuce with a side of carpaccio, three pieces of sun-dried tomato, and a sliver of cheese. Mustard soup was delicious with a few slices of bread. The bar staff looked grumpy and didn't say anything when you came in. Too bad.

For a simple meal without expecting too much, this is the place to be. The boat offers lovely seating by the water, and the food was delicious. The portion sizes are definitely on the edge. The standard portion of fries and salad is actually for one person. You can pay extra for more. Someone eating alone had the same portions. If you both order at separate tables, you both get a portion of fries and salad. It's a very strange concept, and if you bring it up, you feel a bit like a nag. The menu lists a three-course meal for a fixed price, but when we went to pay, it turned out it had been charged separately, so we had to pay more. The employee seemed unimpressed when we pointed this out and ultimately refunded us the €12 difference. Something to be aware of, as many tourists don't notice this. Also, a compliment to the cheerful waitress; she really did her best! Really nice! The "manager" wasn't really in the mood. Lots of sighing and a face that looked like 6:30, which is a shame.

We ordered one steak and one veal tournedos. It came with one small portion of fries and one small portion of salad, which was far too little for two people. I saw another person sitting at a table further away, and they were being served meat with the same portion of salad and fries. I asked the waitress what the deal was. Are we supposed to make do with this? If I were eating here alone, would I also get one portion of fries and salad? The answer was yes. Why do we only get fries and salad for one when we order for two? Yes, that's the policy here🤷‍♀️ So if we both sit separately, we each get one portion of fries and one salad. The answer was yes. Well, then I'm blown away. We could have ordered one more portion of fries and salad for an additional fee. The waitress thought it was strange too, but that's how it goes here. Later, we met a manager at our table, with whom we could share our frustration. She said she heard the exact same thing. So... if we both sit separately, we'll both get salad and fries. "Yes," was the answer. "And now you're making us pay extra, even though we're not being served enough." Well, no apology or anything, no, this is our policy, but you don't have to pay for the extra (not so) fries and salad. Well, I'm speechless, to be honest. It's dishonest, wrong, and deliberately ripping off the customer. So they can earn extra money on an extra portion or order dessert anyway, because it wasn't enough for two people. What a pathetic concept. The customer is certainly not king, but they're being deliberately ripped off. The meat was subpar. The fries were really good with the pepper mayo. Don't go there again. We don't like that mentality.

Slecht eten. Slechte bediening. Duur voor wat je krijgt. Gerechten kwamen niet tegelijkertijd. Ziet er allemaal leuk uit maar het is een tourist-trap.

Heerlijk gegeten in een ontzettend sfeervol restaurant met vlotte en aardige bediening. Bediening spreekt Engels of Nederlands maar verstaat Nederlands. Via social deal een heerlijke proeverij van gerechten, uitgekozen door het restaurant zelf en rekening gehouden met mijn man zijn noten allergie en niet te vet voor het ontbreken van mijn galblaas. Het menu van augustus 2025: 4mini voorgerechten om te delen: biefstuk puntjes in pittige groente, carpaccio, bieten carpacia, 2 hapjes kippen wrap. 3 redelijke stukken vlees als hoofdgerecht met salade en friet. Gehakt staaf, rosé biefstuk en een mals stuk kip. 4mini nagerechten om te delen: chocolademousse, baklava, spekkoek en ijs met slagroom. Je kan heerlijk op het terras aan het water zitten in de zon of in de schaduw of binnen in één van de zeer sfeervolle zalen.

Had a lovely lunch at this restaurant. Beautiful and very atmospheric interior. They have information about artists of the past and present, with a link to Leeuwarden. The steak is very tasty. It comes with a jug of gravy. The Caprese salad had a lot of iceberg lettuce, which is less tasty. In my opinion, definitely the nicest restaurant here on the quay.

Delicious food, whether in the restaurant, takeaway, or delivery. The meat is wonderfully tender, and the red wine jus is highly recommended. Price-wise, you get your money's worth.

This restaurant not only has good service and excellent staff. The kitchen is very competent and everyone is very friendly. But the most striking and powerful thing is truly the atmosphere. The restaurant is much larger than you might realize at first glance. In addition to the boat, where you can sit comfortably outside and be served, the restaurant has what feels like countless rooms, each offering a unique atmosphere. Whether classy or cozy, there's something for everyone.

The food tasted okay, but the rest wasn't great: - Ordered drinks, didn't receive one wine, and a bottle of craft beer didn't come with a glass. It took at least 10 minutes and two requests before the wine and glass arrived. - When we received our main course (which we had to wait a very long time for), two of the three dishes were lukewarm. - We didn't have cutlery (which was taken away from the starter), so we had to go to the order tray to get it ourselves to prevent the food from getting even colder. - Side dishes (fries and salad) arrived quite a bit later (and our neighbors had completely forgotten them). - Ordered drinks again, which arrived when the main courses were almost finished. - When we paid, the bill showed drinks we never ordered. In short, a terrible experience (although my Diamond Hare was delicious).

We expected a bit higher service and food quality. For example, Mojito was with rotten mint and a few big cubes of ice. We have been waiting for almost half an hour for that.

Went here for lunch today The waitress brought the drink and put it in front of you with her thumb in the glass, which I find very unhygienic, then I go inside to ask for a new glass and explain why, after saying sorry she neatly takes a new glass and then to my surprise she puts lemon in it and she takes it out of a container without tongs but just with her fingers, I don't think this is normal, especially with this heat I don't think this is acceptable I had the carpaccio salad and it had no taste at all So I won't go back to Baylings

Bad service, 45 minutes waiting for a starter. Drinks paid and left with a lame 'sorry'. There were only 2 people outside 3 inside. Not recommended.

We had a delicious meal through Social Deal. We thought we could choose four appetizers and desserts ourselves. As shown on Social Deal, there were actually 10 dishes to choose from, but they made the selection; this isn't indicated in the Social Deal app. But the food was delicious.

Really fake. Don’t go there. In the intrance they have the menu with old low prices. But the salad (very small) cost 2 euro more. More fake is not possible !

Het eten was prima, bediening is vriendelijk, maar nu voor de tweede keer dat de rekening niet klopt. Eerste keer 3 x een mix grill apart gerekend terwijl dit bij het arrangement in zit. Tweede keer het zelfde maar dan met het dessert 4x. Wel jammer dat dit gebeurd, wanneer je de rekening dus niet goed controleert kan het zijn dat je teveel betaald.

Had a great meal on Mother's Day. Highly recommended. Too bad the main course took a long time. But the flavors are good and the staff is nice.

Unfortunately, I feel the need to revise my review for Baylings. Two years later, so today on May 11, 2025, the quality of the meats served to me at lunch today is not as it was back then. Instead of delicious slices of quality ham, I received a mediocre ham-like meat product at the bouncer that is known as "sandwich ham" on the internet, but in my opinion no better than sandwich sausage with pieces of ham, looks and tastes. Fortunately, the quality of the bread was still just as good and the service was also very good. The menu prices online also seem to differ slightly from reality. I also passed this on to the service employee.

Today again enjoyed with colleagues (team outing) at Baylings. Service, food and entourage completely TOP. Highly recommended for groups. We will definitely come back.

Lunch in een bijzonder ingericht restaurant wat iets doet met de atmosfeer. De broodjes kroket waren erg lekker en de bediening was vriendelijk en snel.

Had dinner here with a group of approximately 20 colleagues on a Thursday evening. We were given the options of a custom a la carte. These options offer enough variation in the dishes. Very good price-quality ratio. We were a little on time, but the kitchen and service helped us very well with the 3-course menu in the short time slot.

Afgelopen donderdag bij Baylings gegeten. Dit naar aanleiding van een social deal die we hadden gekregen als cadeau. Van tevoren nog even geboreld bij Baylings. En daarna zijn we gestart met het diner dat vastgesteld is. Het eten was niet bijzonder. En tot onze schrik bij het hoofdgerecht bleek dat de kipfilet niet gaar was. Hier hebben we een melding van gemaakt. Het meisje wist eigenlijk niet dat ze hiermee aan moest, heeft het meegenomen. En ze hebben er niet meer over gesproken. Dit vinden wij zeer kwalijk. Aangezien rauwe kip geserveerd krijgen toch wel tot hele gevaarlijke dingen kan leiden.

Restaurant gelegen in het centrum van Leeuwarden. Prachtig pand. Redelijk vriendelijk personeel, op één na correct gekleed. Eten is redelijk, mixed grill was niet voldoende warm én kipfilet was plat, enkele mm. Geen hoogstandje. Soep was goed, kipsalade was dramatisch, 2 plakje kipfilet kort gesneden, een tegenvaller. Geen nagerecht genomen na de toch wel tegenvallende gerechten

Wij komen hier regelmatig, omdat de keuken altijd heerlijk is. De kwaliteit van de bediening wisselt. Er kan iets mis gaan, benoem het gewoon naar het gezelschap. Ga dan niet, terwijl gasten lang wachten door fouten in de bestelling, zo vaak vragen of we nog iets willen drinken en dat op de rekening zetten. Een gast hoort daar niet om te hoeven vragen, dat moet je in zo'n situatie voor zijn. Een minimale geste is genoeg. Engelstalige personeel over het algemeen heel attent en doen erg hun best om onduidelijkheid te voorkomen. Dat valt dan juist weer op. En het eten was weer heerlijk!

The dishes apparently look beautiful and delicious. We had a smoked chicken salad and salmon salad. However, both turned out to be a large pile of lettuce with a few slices of chicken or salmon draped over it. Then almost €15 for such a salad is far too expensive. The waitress didn't seem to be enjoying herself which didn't give a "welcome" feeling. To end on a somewhat positive note; it is a pleasant catering establishment.

A beautiful building that breathes history. Very nice that you can read the story at the back of the menu. Reception was friendly. We were allowed to find a seat at the front of the store or walk to the other room. We chose to continue walking. It was quiet. We looked for a spot ourselves. The operation is correct, but that's about it. It doesn't really radiate 'heat'. Our daughter eats little. However, the hamburger from the lunch menu could not be ordered for dinner. Food was fine. Dessert (hangover) was a bit disappointing; the crumble was hard to find. The chocolate moulleux was also a cold cake. In short; you can have a nice meal here. If hospitality is taken to a higher level, it will be more balanced.

What a pleasant surprise! Had lunch here with a friend via social deal. A truly beautiful building with a great atmosphere. Lunch was delicious and more than sufficient. The staff very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth repeating!

Koele ontvangst, bleek later meer de houding zijn, later werd een glimlach getoverd. Eten was veelbelovend toen we het voorgerecht kregen, deze smaakte prima, mooie verhoudingen. Hoofdgerecht was ook prima enkel de opmaak had kleurrijker mogen zijn. De groente was te lang gebakken/gewokt, daardoor was de structuur totaal verdwenen. Vlees was prima, nagerecht ook voldoende zij het dat de crème brullee erg waterig was. Prijs is stevig voor wat geserveerd wordt ongetwijfeld is dat ook de reden waarom het restaurant op zaterdagavond niet vol zit. Eten werd erg snel na elkaar opgediend, drie gangen in anderhalf uur…. Houd je wel tijd over op de avond voor leuke dingen

Prachtige locatie in de binnenstad van Leeuwarden. Het restaurant heeft een heel mooi interieur en is erg gezellig. Het eten is heerlijk, de bediening vriendelijk en goed. Echte aanrader!

We visited here via the Fork deal on a rainy November Wednesday. Dining outside on the boat was not available at the time. The main room is high and brightly lit which doesn't really bring a comfy vibe, but there are too other rooms for larger groups. The decor is rather like a library and a bit outdated. There is a modest selection of wines and beers. For starters the shrimp and the turf smoked salmon, both very good. For the mains catch of the day (Red Mullet) and vega gnocchi. I was expecting the gnocchi to be more fuller and the sauce a little thicker, have had better in other places. The range of vegetarian is small and random, would be better to be expanded. Service was polite and no long waiting times. Think it is now under new management as I didn't experience some of the problems recently written in reviews below. Around 50 euro a person with two drinks each.

Nice restaurant right on the canal, food was good. Service was okay, but not outstanding.

Large restaurant with plenty of space and a terrace. Beautiful and attractive design along the canals of Leeuwarden. The food tasted great! In our opinion, the restaurant loses out on service. It's a mess, people don't walk through neighborhoods and no one has an overview. 5 people - no one knows whether orders have already been placed, when food can be brought to the kitchen and whether drinks have been brought. The staff is also insufficiently able to estimate which people are unwanted guests. By that I mean half-drunk bums, who don't pay for their order and cause a nuisance. The bill was also incorrect, it contained 1 dish that was not ours. I found out in time, so we got it back promptly. Nice tent, good kitchen with a lot of potential, shame about the staff.

Had a delicious surprise menu (various snacks/dishes/dessert) with the whole family... But really surprising, delicious flavors, great surroundings... Nice, smooth, sweet service... Thank you and see you soon...

We organized a baby shower at Baylings with a group of 15 people. The food was delicious and the service very attentive. Everything went smoothly and the atmosphere was pleasant. I am very satisfied and can definitely recommend this restaurant for a pleasant meeting.

Fast service, but the table for 2 people is very cramped. Cutlery was not clean and not complete. Ordered 2x medium steak, 1 was rare and the other medium.

Previously Humphreys... was always a good restaurant. Unfortunately it was now a downright disappointing evening. The service seemed clumsy. (Forgetting cutlery for every course, half clearing, bringing drinks too late, etc.) High prices for miserable dishes. Had a mixed grill. That is a piece of dry minced meat folded around a skewer, a small piece of chicken fillet, a tough piece of steak... the lamb was 1 bite, but still good. All meat seasoned the same… not. The salmon fillet was stale and my wife left it alone. The fries were fine, but almost impossible to mess up. My daughter had a piece of plastic in the pizza. When we reported it, the response was “but do we have to make a new one??” When paying, the pizza was also on the receipt twice... butrrrrr... we received it as a gift... we took the evening for granted, including all the fruit flies present.

Echt lekker gegeten, weinig te klagen. Heb de kipfilet besteld, was verrast door de lekkere smaken en het sausje. Ook het drankje een Texelse 0,0 was heerlijk en verrassend. Ik miste bij de bijgerechten een beetje groente en de patatjes waren een beetje lauw bij aankomst. Ga er zeker nog een keer naartoe.

Heerlijke vega gnocchi gegeten! Snelle en prima bediening. Leuk zitten in centrum Leeuwarden in de gracht of op het terras.

Not worth any stars, and certainly not a purveyor to the royal household!!! Extremely bad. Let your waiters come up with a lame excuse when they serve incorrect dishes. All in all, an unpleasant experience if you want to have a nice lunch. The place is very nice to sit in, but that's about it.

Great place for a nice lunch, the dips are tasty as a starter, enough spread, unfortunately some hard bread. The staff is not very easy to understand, but they are friendly. The sandwiches are very tasty.

We had lunch here via Social Deal. For less than €10 pp we received delicious Turkish-style spreads with very tasty and fresh baguette. My partner had a pulled chicken sandwich, which he thought tasted very good, my carpaccio wrap was a bit on the tough side (tip for the chef, heat the wrap a little longer in advance or leave it in the refrigerator overnight, with filling) The service is very nice and the place looks beautifully authentic from the 17th century, with beautiful cabinets and bar. Highly recommended!

Ik denk de beste lunch van leeuwarden. Heerlijke smeersels op brood. Daarna ( groot) stokbrood met pulled chicken met extra garnering. Gaar, mals, lekkere saus. Cheffin en bediening:top We zaten op de gracht.

Starter tasting, which was very tasty. Main course 3 types of meat, chicken was raw and we had to send it back. Taking lamb and beef too far would not have been necessary. The wine gravy was very good. Dessert was not extremely special. Service was mainly busy with other matters and paid little attention to the guests. It took quite a while before the next course was served, which gave you plenty of time for a conversation. Ambience is fine. In general, due to lack of attention, both service and kitchen, a maximum of three stars.

Ordered a 3 course tasting menu de luxe. It took a very long time before we were helped, then it took even longer before anything was served and dessert was not served at all. The waiter complained that he was tired and that he had had a long day. People who came at 9 p.m. were turned away The food was decent, way too much for 2 people and as mentioned we never got dessert. A third of the bill was taken off the bill, which was nice, but there was also the option to take away the dessert. But that's not why you go out to eat Not a positive experience at all, so I will not recommend this restaurant.

Not recommended, rather strongly discouraged. Also indicated there, the salmon is ridiculously small in comparison for that price. It's just a piece of salmon from the freezer, just like from Lidl 9 euros for 3 pieces, but in this case you get 1 piece worth 3 euros and they make the price 25 euros and for that amount they barely serve what on the plate. The soup, 7 euros for the simplest broth soup. Atmosphere is not good, but it is a beautiful building. The neighbors do have good food.

Never been before and saw it for the first time on social deal. Food was fine. Unfortunately the service was very disappointing. Sloppy, rushed and we did not feel welcome. If the employees treat people who book via SD in this way, you can also expect that they will not come a second time. Wouldn't recommend it.

We have eaten here a few times now. 2 x fair and 2 x bad. This is mainly because the meat is not prepared properly. Also last Sunday, April 7. Had it sent back because it was just raw. And then you get it back and it's undercooked again. Leave a piece so that the cook can see it with his own eyes. The staff has somewhat made up for the mistake in/from the kitchen with free coffee. But the quality that comes out of the kitchen is insufficient when it comes to the meat. Shame. If you fail once, then I think it's worth a retake. 2nd and 3rd time which were good. But now again insufficient (meat for the main course). Shame

Tasty tasting as a starter, nice and tender meat for the main course. Simple salad with the main course and unfortunately few vegetables with the meal. Not even as an extra attachment. Service was very friendly but sometimes a bit sloppy.

We had a two course lunch here which was very disappointing. First a soup. My partner's soup had to be returned because it was not warm. It was really just a bowl of soup, no piece of baguette. Then opted for a wrap. It was extremely tough. I couldn't put my fork in and had to ask for a sharper knife because you couldn't cut the wrap with a regular knife

Smooth and friendly service. The food tasted good. For the price I expected a bit more. We were served a bowl of raw vegetables and a bowl of fries. No choice for (baked) potatoes and no hot vegetables.
