Compliments to the staff, it was cozy, it was warm, the food was definitely worth repeating

Once but never again bad food from the grill and raw meat and fish

I tried a Van der Valk restaurant again. Of course, there's little to criticize about the standard drinks, but there's plenty to say about the food. Lukewarm mashed potatoes that don't taste like mashed potatoes, a small schnitzel, an Angus burger garnished with a wilted lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato, a satay stick with watery vegetables, a pumpkin risotto that, judging by the brown edges, was clearly microwaved. The service made no effort to appear cheerful. Don't do this job. Another 200 euros spent. Will we come back? No, we'll try again in five years. Too bad.

Not cheap, but the food was delicious. They also have a nice children's menu, plus a playroom. The restrooms were spotlessly clean.

I didn't like it at all. The food was bland, the drinks were mediocre. The staff was inattentive. The atmosphere was dull. A waste of money.

Insufficient information. Since we were staying at the hotel, we wanted to eat at the restaurant. We went, and we saw that everyone was buying food, and no one was giving us any information, so we just took a few dishes on our plates. We thought payment would be made later. The attendant came and said, "If you don't have a reservation, you can't eat it." After making us wait a while, he told us we had to pay for it. We couldn't eat the food, and we had to pay for it. All we wanted was dinner, and we lost all appetite. Never again... our experience was truly terrible. I don't plan on returning to either the hotel or the restaurant.

Delicious food, there is a new chef??

Without a doubt, the worst service I've ever experienced in a hotel restaurant. In the afternoon, I ordered cake and the same drink three times at the bar. After waiting forever and asking, one drink finally arrived, while the others were just out of luck. There was nothing. No apology or even a question about whether we'd like something else. Then at dinner, we realized that this incompetence and disinterest were clearly by no means an exception. After people all around us were getting their food, who had arrived and ordered long after us, we cautiously inquired after an hour. The laconic answer: coming right now. No apology, no explanation, just complete disregard for the guest. The food itself was good, but the service was unfortunately so abysmal that it overshadowed everything else. When we left, they didn't even ask if everything was okay; they probably already knew the answer.

The food, especially the Angus beef burger and the schnitzel, was of excellent quality. The service was consistently friendly and attentive – I would especially like to highlight Amber, who impressed us with her professionalism and friendliness. The atmosphere in the bar area was pleasant, and the low noise level contributed to a relaxed experience.

Nothing to complain about. Excellent food a and excellent service. Highly recommend . The veal cheeks were soft as butter and served with mixed seasonal vegetables and mashed potatoes. Demi glace sauce on top. Nice terrace and a modern ambience.

Absolutely not recommended!!! Sure, we arrived without a reservation and were told there were no more tables available. So we sat dutifully for an hour next to seven empty tables, only to be led into a train station-like dining room with what felt like 100 empty tables. The menu was only available in Dutch or English. Looking into the kitchen, one could only describe it as mass-produced food. The food was prepared without care, and the countertop was abysmal. The food tasted okay, but certainly not a culinary highlight.

Had a delicious chicken thigh satay. The service was great and the quality was excellent.

Nice spot that we happened to drive past on a sunny afternoon and had not yet eaten lunch at 3:30 PM. Fortunately, that was possible here and we did not (like most places) get a drinks menu shoved under our noses. We opted for a delicious salmon sandwich, Caesar salad and a cappuccino☕️

Food was good. I just had to wait a very long time before I could order anything. Even if you wanted to order something to drink it took a long time.

Had a super nice weekend, as an anniversary for our 12.5 year wedding anniversary. Also reasonable choice at breakfast due to gluten-free. Very nice. Dinner was also tasty. We had a room with a connecting door, which was really well arranged, which was very nice.

Very cozy atmosphere. Friendly service. It also looks trendy. You do notice that cuts are being made on the menus. Less "decoration" on your plate with something like vegetables, tomato, olive or something like that. I had tuna for lunch. That was a ball with quite a few leaves of romaine lettuce, nothing else. For dinner, the side dishes must be ordered separately. A basket of fries is €6, which adds up quite a bit.

I would like to compliment you on the fantastic buffet and organization. Wide choice of cold and warm. Plenty of choice for vegetarians. You can have a fish, satay or burger grilled on the spot. The burgers themselves are somewhat salty and the fries are lukewarm/cold from the snack wall. For dessert, delicious scoops of ice cream, bavarois and carrot cake. After this extensive buffet we had eaten for the whole day. Definitely worth repeating. Thanks again and see you soon.

Very new hotel and restaurant. Had a great meal here. The food was flavorful and delicious.

v.d.Valk was known to us for its fantastic Live and Cooking. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case after the renovation of the Bijhorst! Mediocre offering and buffet stuffed away in the corner... Too bad because you pay enough for it. We will skip from now on.

Mediocre experience. The restaurant looks nice, but we didn't sit there quietly. On the right, 2 people meeting with laptops and loud voices, on the left someone who was playing videos with sound on her mobile phone. It is better to pay attention to this. The young lady who served us walked around as if she managed the store, but forgot to take our order and patted two dogs very hard twice without washing her hands afterwards. Was really dirty. Considering the prices, we actually thought this was a waste of time.

I was surprised by the meager toppings on my brie bread. I mean, I also have a good knife at home and I know that you can cut soft cheese well with a warm, wet knife, but I won't be able to cut it as wafer-thin as this vd Valk kitchen can make it. Later we thought that the stock might have been a bit low. That can happen, but communicate it. The brown bread was also boring, a bit of the sports canteen kind. No, having lunch there is really not recommended in that respect.

I really enjoy coming to van der Valk. Spending the night and having breakfast are always great. Too bad the new generation has the concept "van der Valk" is changing. The familiar Sorbetje is gone at Sassenheim. Just sits on a small plate. Nest concept shame . Much smaller choice on menu. No more familiar pepper sauce and mushroom cream sauce for snitzel or steak. Also no permission to make a quick one. This was at Bijhorst Wassenaar. Spoken to chef. The customer just has to adapt to what is there. I certainly feel bad for the old generation that grew up with Van der Valk. The full dining rooms that I am used to were certainly not an issue on November 3. 40 percent occupancy I think. That should say enough. Hopefully a light will come on. Good luck with this positive criticism. Next time I will call first to see what is available to eat. Then I will not have to deal with any disappointment.

It's okay! That's exactly how I experienced it: it's okay, but it doesn't go away. Food was pricey but good, the service rushed and not friendly. Difficult to find your way from parking garage to restaurant, through corridors with dozens of hotel rooms. Definitely not customer friendly.

A bit noisy restaurant. We were 6 people and only got 4 sandwiches. Received a spoon for a cheese board. Well, I'm okay with that.

A brunch for everyone and everything equally tasty and for that price.

I ordered something with salmon on the lunch menu. Everyone had mega sandwiches and I had 2 mini sandwiches. I was still hungry afterwards so I ordered more. That was a shame, but still tasty. So if you are very hungry, the salmon option is not recommended.

I would like to give a big compliment to the employees of this restaurant. Very compassionate and very friendly. We will definitely come more often for lunch/brunch.

My brother and I wanted to have a nice meal at Van der Valk Wassenaar. It was a quarter past five. The place was almost empty. Grumpy waitress sent us to the counter. Waiting some time, an even grumpier girl came and went to exchange money first. Then we were assigned a spot behind a planter. We asked for another table, as the place was empty, but she decided. Not to talk about. We left. Had a nice meal at Van der Valk Voorschoten. There friendly service and tasty food. Too bad, never again Wassenaar for us.

Where are those delicious sorbets from v.d. Stayed Falcon? They are still described as such on the menu but it is a mockery.... The coupes are much smaller, but that has changed over the years. The delicious fresh fruit is a few cubes of finely cut melon on the bottom, a little bit of ice and a dollop of whipped cream with 1 small strawberry on top! They probably forgot the syrup, which is part of a sorbet... You have to pay 11 euros for that! I would think carefully about ordering this.....

We took the burger it was very good, the fries are homemade and the atmosphere the ambiance the colors are super well designed… a minus for the knife that wasn’t cleaned at the table we were sat… quick service on our side but it wasn’t the case for everyone around us :)

After renovation, this hotel is completely 'top notch' again. The kitchen has also been renovated. A lot of care and attention to the food, a little less to the service. The location remains a challenge, on the one hand close to The Hague/Scheveningen and in a wooded area. On the other hand, you must accept that the main road is noisy day and night and that before going for a walk you first have to go through the hustle and bustle of the hustle and bustle to find peace. Eating on the terrace is not recommended due to the noise. Enjoy good dishes indoors. Vegetarian dishes are also prepared with care

Live and cooking always tasty and fun

Ate there for the second time without an appointment. There is usually enough seating. Apparently there is a tunnel vision-like strict policy whereby the tables along the window are intended and set for 4 people. For the third time in a row, it was a huge hassle to get a nice table, even though the restaurant was not full. The first time, the stiff and adamant hostess led us to eat at the neighboring restaurant De Landbouw, where the customer is still king. The second attempt and tonight again the response: "I'm sorry, the tables on the window side are all occupied/reserved". Both times we arrived around 5:30 PM and left around 8:15 PM and you guessed it. The tables by the window were still empty Also the table we were assigned tonight.... "well, you can still get the last table for 4 people on the long side." The hostess did not like it. I have been to many Van der Valk restaurants, but there is none that makes a guest so unwelcome and made us walk away the first time. Service-oriented NOT. Fortunately, the service in the restaurant itself is friendly, patient, benevolent and helpful and I still felt like a welcome guest.

Life and cooking in a word fantastic!!

The rooms upstairs have become beautiful after the renovation, just like the restaurant. Delicious food!

The management makes some mistakes. Also on another day when we went into the rematch. The furnishings have undergone a clear positive upgrade. The price is not in reasonable proportion to the quality of the food. If I compare it with Van der Valk Nootdorp and Voorschoten, there is still work to be done for Wassenaar.

It turned out beautiful, you will no longer recognize it as the old outbuilding. Completely new and tastefully decorated. The service was really below par. They see you come in and just keep talking about their own things. Not motivated and just pretend to be busy. This is really not possible. Must undergo training or discuss this with the manager. Not customer friendly. I have been to many restaurants but here it is really not well organized. Pity.

The hotel De Bijhorst has recently been completely renovated and it must be said that this has been done very nicely, especially the hotel rooms look beautiful. However, citizens have to pay a lot more than they did twenty years ago. We experienced our visit to hotel The Hague - Wassenaar, as hotel De Bijhorst is now called, as positive, but we would still like to suggest three areas for improvement: - the management of the restaurant must ensure that the clothing of the staff is in order. Now that is not the case - we went to dinner at five o'clock in the afternoon and we wanted a cake for dessert, but it turned out that most of the cakes were sold out. All cakes must be available at all times - In our opinion, the prices of the menu may be adjusted. The veggie burger we ordered (see photo) cost a whopping €18.50.

Breakfast tasty, robot funny, nice new location

This was once and never again, the renovation was beautiful, but the restaurant had become so terribly bad, a waste of time and money.

Enjoyed a delicious meal of not really special dishes. Good price/quality ratio. After renovation, more atmosphere due to small spaces and seating areas.

Excellent buffet meal, very fresh dishes Oysters and shrimps, lots of fresh fish and a journalist on salads well organised. House wine was fine. Also wide choice of desserts. Recommended.

Less than expected. After the renovation it is a bit disappointing.

Nice meal. The children's sandwich looked very nice, but the cheese was barely melted. Service took a while, although we felt there were a lot of staff walking around. The new restaurant looks very nice, very atmospheric.

After a complete makeover, we enjoyed a new experience in Wassenaar on the border with The Hague. Had drinks with friends.

Received an invitation to join a brunch. We came to the Bijhorst more often. After the renovation, you enter the vd Valk site and you will see cars parked on the left and the direction of travel has actually already been determined. When you turn left you will be faced with a no-entry sign. Wouldn't it have been more logical if you knew that there were parking spaces behind the building so that you could complete that route turning left around the building? Ultimately, driving to the right, you will arrive at the parking spaces. I understood that it had been discussed for 10 people. Nothing arranged! An oval table, between the other attendees, was quickly set. Small seating area and because there were two strollers and two children, it was a nuisance for the diners around the group. I also found the routing at dinner annoyingly busy. I found the walking route not clear or not indicated at all. The food was fine.

I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant has been beautifully renovated. Beautiful open kitchen. We were alone at a small table hidden behind a large plant and the rude (how could it be otherwise in Wassenaer) waiter said that they could not move. The waiter we had was grumpy substitute number 2. Something like that was on the receipt. The food was good, but not special. It remains Van der Valk, only now they use some other vegetables instead of green beans. You now have to order fries separately. Lamb fillet was very good. Price-quality ratio is therefore a bit off; too expensive for the food, it wasn't that tasty. Furthermore, as people in our mid-40s, we were among 90% of retirees who no longer talk to each other.

Lunch was reasonable, but one thing is that the windows inside and outside could be washed more often.

We only had a meeting that was well taken care of.

After the renovation it seems as if the restaurant is too big for the kitchen. We spent two evenings there and two evenings of stress in the service. Bottle of tap water 1 liter € 4.50 😳 Portion of fries €6.00😳 And in the morning at breakfast it's the same as at dinner: crowds and waiting lines at the coffee machine and stress at the service. The food was tasty 👍

Mini pieces of rib-eye with lots of fat for 28 euros! I told the waitress (Luna) that it is way too small a portion. She then said: I just do my job... Incredibly rude and completely disinterested. And next to our table she was standing all the time talking to her acquaintances who were quite noisy. Luckily the boy who gave us two espressos was nice. I'm not coming back. It used to be much better. Unfortunately.

Excellent restaurant in the van der Valk Hotel Wassenaar. I often visit this hotel and almost always have dinner in the Bijhorst. It is a brand new and modern restaurant, with an open kitchen. You can get plenty of fresh vegetables and the fries are great. Surprising perhaps, but as a very experienced restaurant goer I have learned that these are the hallmarks of a good restaurant.

Recently opened new (renovated) hotel restaurant. It all looks excellent in the new Van der Valk style. Affordable good food, friendly staff. The restaurant area is very large.

I ate schnitzel with a beer. Food was good. Beer delicious. Not a long wait.

If you know the old Bijhorst, it is very open and gives you a pleasant feeling.
