do not go here if you don’t want to wait half an hour for waiter to notice you. We orered burgers and some sides. First came burger after 20 minutes, than one of 2 packs of fries after 15 minutes, waiter telling us that another fries will come in seconds. It never came even tho we asked 2 different waiters for it. This experience costed 150€

It was a very pleasant restaurant, the food was tasty. The only thing was that the steaks were cooked slightly longer than medium-rare, which is what I had requested. The service was excellent; you could always get drinks and side dishes quickly.

First time in Amsterdam! Totally recommend the pornstar martini and the garlic herb butter. Close to hotels and has a great atmosphere!

Particularly atmospheric restaurant, homey atmosphere, an oasis of calm in the busy center of Amsterdam. Beautiful terrace, even in good weather. Very friendly service and delicious food!

We only had drinks there, but it's highly recommended (the location is nice, on a street with lots of bars, and the staff is very polite). There's plenty of seating both inside and out. 👍🏻

Lucky we went early. Didn't need a reservation, but 30 minutes later....reservations only! Service was spot on. Loved the vibe. Food was exceptional at a very reasonable price, E90. We shared the ribeye for two. Excellent portions. Location was excellent and close to our hotel, Hotel Weichman.

Delicious rib-eye and fries. A shame the bearnaise is served cold. The peppersauce had a pungent earthy taste, not in a good way. Baked tomatoes and garlic on the side were cold. Sweet staff, but one of them kept spilling water, steal juice and fries on the floor. You can smell the charcoal in the restaurant which is nice but it becomes quite smokey after a while. All in all good, but could be excellent with few improvements.

Best birthday ever. The atmosphere was incredible, the environment felt perfect, and the staff were unbelievably attentive. Even on a busy night, they handled everything with ease. The food was outstanding — my steak was cooked perfectly, and the lobster was absolutely mouthwatering. Hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve had

What a treat! Not just for the delicious steak but the appetizers and desserts too. Roasted aubergine was absolutely delicious and the apple tatin perfectly made. Service was great!

A well-maintained restaurant with a vast menu. The focus is obviously on meat (very tasty and beautifully cooked), but the menu is very varied, accommodating a wide variety of dietary requirements. Gluten-free options are also available. The place is also suitable for large or small groups. Attentive and precise service.

We waited a very long time before being greeted and served. The service was disastrous, with no coordination between orders and requests. We waited 30 minutes for our main course. The wine arrived after the meat (after two reminders), and the fries arrived cold (one portion for two courses, and we had to ask for more. Not very classy for a €40 piece of meat). The discount hadn't been applied; we had to ask for it. The staff seemed overwhelmed even though the restaurant was half empty. No goodbye when we left. Avoid this place; tourists aren't cash cows!

This was our second visit to this restaurant chain while on a short break to Amsterdam. Last night we shared the tomato bruschetta and both then had the cheese burger. This was cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend.

I don't recommend this restaurant. The service is absolutely terrible. The waiters seem to have no idea why they're there. We showed up without a reservation and weren't allowed in, even though the website showed there were available seats. The girl at the door didn't even try to check or offer any options. It seems the staff doesn't know their stuff. We came the next day with a reservation. We ordered a steak—it was incredibly small, and next to it they served a so-called "salad" that barely even counted as a salad: literally two leaves and half a cherry tomato. We also ordered a dish that was listed as "gambas" on the menu, but it turned out to be regular shrimp—only 5 for €16, which is incredibly expensive for that portion. Also, it was my birthday, and my husband asked the waiter to secretly bring a small cake with a candle. Unfortunately, they forgot that too. Overall, the staff seems completely disorganized: the waiters forget orders. If you don't remind them, your order won't be delivered. They completely forgot to bring the fries, and even forgot to bring utensils. And the girl checking in doesn't know what's available. The only good thing is the pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant. The steak was tender and not dry, but the sauce was bland. The shrimp were delicious, but the price for 5 was way too high. Overall, other than the beautiful atmosphere, I didn't find anything good about this restaurant, so I can't recommend it.

I've been there numerous times ,the steaks are phenomenal, and everything else that I've had on the menu is superb. You must have the scallops ....Thank you again.

Ok, without being flashy…. Bought Sancerre, got a wine cooler first upon request, Weren’t allowed to taste the wine before it was poured, the food came very, very quickly, so we asked to “take the time a little” and that was heard, so it was fine. A regular dinner without anything special….

Good service and attentive waitstaff which is unusual in a tourist heavy spot. Unfortunately every dish is overloaded with salt. Both in and on the food, sprinkled with abandon around the plate and in the sauces and the cocktails.

A lot seemed to go wrong at this restaurant. We were served a very obvious pork tenderloin instead of a tournedos. The staff wanted to fix it, but the chef was confident in his choice of meat. There was also an overabundance of sauce on the dishes, which didn't enhance the flavor. Several other tables were unhappy with their food, and there seemed to be a lack of communication between the kitchen and the service. Young staff and an arrogant chef are detrimental to the restaurant. It's a shame, because the menu is excellent and the interior is beautiful.

A great place for a hearty dinner.

We came for our anniversary dinner and the entire team was outstanding. They all met our request and made us feel special. A shoutout to Luis (I hope I spelled it right!) who managed to find the time in his busy night to make sure that everything was alright. We will definitely come back and we’ll make sure to recommend it to everyone. Thank you!

This was our second visit to Black & Blue, and we were absolutely thrilled again! We enjoyed delicious drinks here two years ago, and everything was just as perfect this time. The incredibly friendly and attentive service deserves special mention. The team is young, very welcoming, and the waitresses are unbelievably nice; you immediately feel at home. The food was also excellent, and the atmosphere is very cozy and stylish—perfect for a lovely evening. We will definitely be back!

Unfortunately I won’t be returning there. The service was average. On arrival, before getting to our seat space was too tight, I suggest they should space out the sitting. It took a while to attend to us for drinks. I asked for a lobster which was not there, so I went for a salmon which was not well cooked. And we got 1 portion of fries instead of 2 but was charged for 2 and I believe it’s cause I ordered sweet potato fries at the side. In such cases if the customer prefers a different side there should be provision made for that. Apart from the undone salmon the rest of the food was not well warm and you could taste it was not fresh at all.

A really beautiful experience to dine here. The customer service is amazing, but more importantly the food is incredible! Visited for my 40th birthday and was not disappointed!

The food is ok, the wine is pretty poor. The service is ok considering how busy it is but, I feel the place would benefit from less tables enabling staff more time per customer and therefore a better experience all round. A bit overpriced for the quality in all honesty.

As part of the Amsterdam Light event package, we were treated like second-class guests. We were handed a piece of bread with raw tartare sauce without any explanation. On the terrace, we weren't even asked if we wanted a drink. Worst hospitality experience in years.

A nice and cozy restaurant. Perfect price/quality ratio: 9. The chairs are comfortable, there's also plenty of seating at the bar, and there's a pleasant terrace at the front with a lovely view of the Reguliersgracht. And for me, it's located on the nicest street in the Netherlands.

awful. Steak tartare with an overcooked quail egg on top, no egg yolk. You read that right steak tartare without yolk. The place was empty and it took them 20 minutes to bring us a new bottle of wine by the time we were done eating it finally came. Steak bland, small portion. Fries never came. Awful experience. DONT EAT HERE

A pleasant experience! The restaurant is very well-maintained and has an intimate atmosphere. The menu is mostly meat-based, so there's not a wide selection, and unfortunately, one dish arrived lukewarm. The policy of endless rounds of fries is excellent. The staff was generally very friendly; we needed to charge our phone, and they helped us with a smile.

I would like to share a true Christmas story that happened this year at a restaurant on Christmas Eve. To start from the beginning, every year, as a tradition, we celebrate Christmas in a different country. This year, we chose the Netherlands, Amsterdam in particular. A city well known for being free-spirited and modern. We reserved a table in advance for Christmas Eve dinner, it’s Christmas after all. Everything was perfectly planned, until the restaurant’s “Grinch”, ruined our holiday. Instead of the table we had reserved, we were seated at the bar, right next to the sink. Please do tell, is this really the kind of seat that requires a reservation? Are we considered second-class guests? The arrogant behavior of the “Grinch” only deepened the unpleasent vibe. I have never felt so humiliated in my life as I did on this occasion. I am not some poor soul who should feel lucky to be given a seat by the sink. The lack of basic manners completely ruined our Christmas. I strongly recommend avoiding this place altogether, as judging or treating people differently based on nationality, race, or similar factors is a trait of narrow-minded individuals. So, I would like to thank them sincerely for ruining our holiday. As well as the lasting impression they left about how the Amsterdam residents welcome their guests.

We came here for dinner on our last night in Amsterdam. I did some research on some good places in Amsterdam for steak as I was craving it, and it did not disappoint! We booked ahead of time, however it wasn’t needed as there weren’t many people there but this was on a Monday evening. We were kept waiting for around 5 minutes along with two other people as staff did walk by, but maybe they have a policy for seating people, I’m unsure but it didn’t come across rudely nevertheless. I ordered the house Rosé which was pleasant and reasonably priced. For mains we went with the 200g steak that is just “steak” on the menu but tastes like Sirloin. My partner went with the Black angus burger I think. I thought the steak was really good, despite being a little undercooked as I asked for medium and thought it was more medium rare but I still greatly enjoyed it. The burger was quite simple though and nothing special. The fries are unlimited which is great, however we were only brought over one pot of fries between both of us even though I think they are included with both meals, I’m unsure if they just have one pot between two as they’re unlimited, which we were absolutely fine with, but others may not be. The server also asked “and what sauce?” when taking my order for the steak, by that I assumed it was included but was charged extra for it. There was also a little bit of a wait for the bill despite the restaurant being quiet. All of the staff we encountered were very nice and our server was great! Overall, we enjoyed the food and found it to be reasonably priced for a restaurant in Amsterdam

As someone with 10+ years of service around the world, this was the worst experience I’ve had at a ‘steak house’. The vibe was more like a bar, which I could have gotten behind if the service wasn’t so bad. We made a reservation for 7:30pm, arrived 5 minutes early and didn’t get sat for another 20 minutes. Got to our table, waited about 10 minutes and the server came after greeting the other tables first (who sat after). Took our drink orders at 8:05pm along with our food. Drinks & Appies were a beer, water and bread. Mains were Veggie steak with garlic butter, and beef burger. The bread came within a minute and our drinks 10 minutes after that so 8:16pm. At this point I did ask for the bill when the food comes, so we could settle up as we have another reservation at 9:15pm. She immediately brought the bill and a machine.. to which I said ‘no I’m not paying before I eat’. My glass of water was a tiny short glass, no offer for an upsell to a water bottle and no offer to refill or if I’d like to switch to something else after I gulped it down in one second. The tables next to us were also unhappy and making comments about the service, to which I tried to actually defend the situation as it was a packed house — however it was over booked and understaffed, clearly and my patience was running thin. No account, no apologies, or even touch base from the manager. Our mains arrived at 8:35pm, and the food runner put them down at the table next to us, pulled out his phone and then said ‘okay yes this is yours’ and my partner looked confused. He asked about the side, and the runner said you have to order one and my partner said ‘I could of sworn the menu said all mains are served with fries’. I was also confused because €28 for a piece of fake meat, and €24 for a burger seemed steep for a bar. We both ate fast, and ignored the fact we were disappointed.... It’s now 8:55 and we have to leave, I have the receipt in my hand, jacket on.. and we have not seen our server. The table next to us was complaining to the manager on their own accord, due to missing food and was actually met with gaslighting. Claiming fries are shareable, but they ordered two separate kinds and only got one. So I walked towards the door to find our server. I saw her and said ‘can we pay please’, she said one second and ran to find a machine, she came back after another 5 minutes - we settled and left. We later looked into the website and our food did in fact include fries, and I never got my side of sauce I paid extra for. So we payed full price and were missing food. This restaurant was recommended by our hotel, highly and I went straight back and complained to the receptionist and their manager. Asked them to remove this off their list, as it was a very bad first impression for someone visiting. I am not a foreigner to European standards, and I understand the stress of a Saturday night rush but this was unacceptable on every level. Zero accountability, and it appeared the entire staff had no product knowledge to even quality check the dishes coming out or have the skills to sell add-on’s correctly. We were on a date night and ready to spend money, split a bottle and enjoy the city. I don’t normally write reviews, I just pay my bill and never go back. But I’ve actually been shorted, and the few dollars is not the problem it’s the principle.

We went for the Amex experience dining program they had during October. I was pleasantly surprised with this place, everything very clearly organised for the separate dining. The food came out quickly, but tasted very good, especially the steak we had. But due the speed of the food coming out, meant we did have a fair amount of wine left to finish after we had eaten.

We had a delicious meal. My daughter and I enjoyed a rib-eye steak for two. You can definitely taste the flavor of the charcoal oven.

We came from UK wanted to book a fancy dinner , I booked the wrong day. :( BUT they manage to seat us! we had a Succulent Rib eye to share , I had Prosecco he had a lovely beer . .We had a two puddings and the second one we weren't aware of the waiter came out with a firework in our pudding to celebrate our anniversary. It's little touches like that that just makes an experience go from already a 10 to 11 stars! we had such a romantic special evening with beautiful food thank you and great service .

We stayed here with the Amex Dining for 2 offer. Unfortunately, the reservation said a vegan curry was available, but in the restaurant, it turned out to be only a vegan steak. Nevertheless, the food was fine, not 5/5. The service was super friendly and attentive, and one of the best experiences in recent memory.

A very cozy restaurant with well-chosen decor and a great location. The service was decent. Sometimes they took a while to take our order, but in its favor, the staff gave great recommendations and the restaurant was packed. The food was good; my favorite was the burrata salad. The only thing I wouldn't order again was the pineapple dessert. The decoration on the plates was simple but beautiful.

We are literally waiting since 45 min for getting a drink and there is still nothing on the table. Totally unacceptable! In this time I would have already had three gin tonics. Obviously no one here interested in making some money.

Friendly service, they politely asked how soon we wanted our main course after the starter. It was a bit pricey: €275 for four people, not including many drinks. And I did miss some vegetables or salad with the main course (we probably should have ordered them separately). The interior is very cozy, with a lovely, peaceful garden and a pleasant terrace at the bustling front, offering something for everyone.

The food is good. The menu was simple, but tasty. A few more vegetables with the steak wouldn't hurt. The service was more than excellent. A little more attention to the wine list would also be nice. The Chianti is okay. You can find better options for the same price. Great place.

We didn’t even get all of our food. Made reservations and got there early (it was our last night in the city), server was weird about it and just walked away from us. He didn’t come back for 15 minute to get our drink order. By then we ordered our full dinner because we were meeting friends after. We asked for several things on the Menu, the server searched for very long time in the ordering device before saying they were out of the item. We ate our bread app and waited a very long time before the server same to see us again, he asked if we’d like him to put our entrees in. Another long time before seeing our waiter again when he finally came over to say it would be about 10-15 minutes because it was busy. We got our entree much later, they were both supposed to come with fries and he said they’d be out soon, we finished the main food and had to ask for the fries, he only brought out one portion, our drinks were so empty and was never asked if we needed more. We paid and left. This was our second trip to Amsterdam and have had at least 15 meals in town and never had such odd service.

We had a great time eating here! The steak was mouthwatering and tasted incredible. The service was excellent! I was so surprised when a neighbourhood cat walked in! That was just soo cute!!

Lack of presentation of the food on the plates. We were told that we can get unlimited fries but you really have to ask. Our waiters/waitresses were attentive at the beginning but was hard to find them later on. Overall, it would be for my fourth or fifth choice for a steak restaurant.
