Restaurant De Beren Alphen aan den Rijn in Lage Zijde

Had dinner on Boxing Day. Cozy location. The starter and main course were fine, though varied. My neighbor got rock-hard spareribs. Another tablemate had more tender spareribs. The salmon was fine. Vegetables from a bag, I suspect not fresh. Dessert was very simple; it could have used more attention. All in all, a very average experience, nothing special. It was therefore on the pricey side.

De Beren Alphen is incredibly disappointing. We had a One4all gift card, which clearly stated on the card that it could be redeemed at De Beren. When we paid, it wasn't accepted. The tone was blunt: "No, we're a franchise." Not annoying or anything. No, we had to pay €61. During lunch, a glass broke. No one came to clean it up. Staff walked past once until I said something, and then, with great difficulty, it was cleaned up. The quality of the food was also much lower than it used to be, and the service, which was always friendly, was anything but customer-friendly. In short, De Beren Alphen aan den Rijn unfortunately no longer has good service, and the quality of the food has become very poor.

We had a very successful three-course meal! Went home with a full stomach 😅 The staff was very nice and friendly 👍🏼 Highly recommended with the Kruidvat voucher.

Dinner was good, the food tasted very good. But unfortunately, the service wasn't entirely honest. When selecting the main course through the Kruidvat special, the server indicated that "special tonight, 500 grams of spareribs or a 200 gram tournedos" were available, and that these were also included in the Kruidvat menu. It turned out there was a €10 extra charge on the tournedos, so I had to pay an extra €20 for two tournedos. I pointed out that this hadn't been mentioned, and the server said he often refers to them as extras. This wasn't mentioned at the table either, but I was still asked to pay. It's a shame that this attitude of the staff spoiled the enjoyment of the evening.

Went there for lunch on a Saturday. Wel received and swiftly appointed to a table. Food is simple but well prepared. Very nice atmosphere thanks to the team of people working there. Special thanks to Kai & Jamie who took their job seriously. Will go there again some time soon.

The food is delicious, but the service is a bit slow. We had to wait a long time for someone to ask what we wanted to eat or drink. Finally, we were able to get a drink ourselves at the bar.

I'd like some more information beforehand, such as the fact that there's no accessible toilet, and that if you're coming with a large group, they'd prefer you all go for the three-course menu. Otherwise, the food was excellent, but for me, everything was too much.

I ordered spare ribs here, but they were served cold. After I pointed this out, they were simply microwaved, and we only heard the ping 🤯. The meat was tough and dry afterward, and definitely not what you'd expect from a restaurant. It's a shame, because this should be fresh and nice and hot. I won't be back.

The food was delicious, the service was very helpful (because I have celiac disease, I can't eat gluten) and took a huge amount of care of it. I come here often, and they never disappoint!

At 6:45 PM we were able to order, indicated we really needed to leave at 8:00 PM, and asked if the four-course meal would be feasible within that timeframe: "If you keep eating, we will." At 8:03 PM, as we were leaving, the main course was served. When I politely expressed my dissatisfaction with the way things were going, I said, "Don't be so angry," and that it was "not our responsibility to accommodate everyone," and that it was "busy in the kitchen." If I had said that immediately, we would have ordered something else. When it came to paying, nothing could be done about it either, "because you ordered this meal yourself." No drink refund, nothing. Regarding the gift card that ultimately couldn't be scanned, I had to email the head office. Where do you find such staff? First and last visit.

Restaurant de Beren is a very nice restaurant to have a sandwich, but it is also the perfect place if you want to eat out there at Christmas or another holiday.

I've been there twice this month and I've only enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. One downside is that if you sit next to the front door and the door keeps opening, you feel the cold, which isn't nice.

I had lunch here with a friend. It was busy. We were seated at a table in a corner, and I practically sat on the lap of the table next to us. The service was friendly, but it took a very long time. At one point, the sun was right in my face. There were no sunshades.

We ordered a half chicken menu twice. The fries were okay, but the half chicken didn't taste like chicken and had a very strange flavor and aftertaste, probably cremated several times before delivery. The phone service was terrible and rude, and they didn't offer any solutions. In short, we waited 70 minutes for our food, 35 euros poorer, and we were hungry. Thanks, guys, you really made it a fantastic evening!

We had a very good meal at De Beren, a good piece of salmon and my wife had the three-course menu from Kruidvat, which is highly recommended.

We used the Albert Heijn voucher. We received a warm welcome. The menu was already laid out, so it was immediately clear what we could order. We opted for the 12-hour option. You really get a lot. More than enough. Dinner wasn't necessary in the evening. 😁 Delicious homemade soup. Truly divine. Satay is always good, isn't it? Attentive and friendly waitresses regularly checked to see if everything was to our liking, if it was tasty, and if we wanted another drink. In short: a real treat. We'll have lunch here again next time.

It depends on which one you go to. At the first restaurant, you have to wait a long time for your first drink, and it's also way too long between courses. The sheer quantity of food is also terrible.

Birthday lunch with AH vouchers; initially, we were seated right by the kitchen, as the restaurant was half full, so luckily we were given a table in the conservatory. The bread wasn't fresh that day, neither for the club sandwich (one white, one brown) nor the 12-o'clock snack (two brown, for both the croquette and the carpaccio). Despite asking to leave the mushrooms out of the spicy chicken, they were still in. The steak cubes were very tasty, though. So, we had a lovely time in a nice atmosphere at a great table, but the food was quite disappointing. What a shame!

Had lunch at De Beren today. It was very pleasant and the food was excellent. Until we went to pay. We wanted to redeem our AH voucher, but it wasn't accepted, even though we'd indicated this when making our reservation. We had a lot of discussion, and in the end, we had to pay the full price. It's a shame they showed so little understanding. Whether there will be a next time is debatable. I never give one-star reviews, but this is so incredibly disappointing.

We had a wonderful meal at De Beurs. We were given a lovely, quiet spot so I could enjoy some one-on-one time with my son (who has autism). The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious!

I was able to eat quickly without having made a reservation. Everyone cooperated and indeed, after about 45 minutes I was able to continue on my way. Thanks a lot everyone. Next time it will be more extensive, but for now everything was great.

We booked a high tea for over 30 people, including one vegan, weeks in advance. Only one day before, we were told that a vegan high tea wasn't possible. So, chefs working here lack imagination and dedication.

Recently ate at De Beren, good service, fast service, friendly staff. Only a shame the toilet is upstairs and it's quite a climb.

The only thing I'm negative about is the Albert Heijn special offer menu, and especially the "uitsmijter" (fried eggs). You have to pay extra for every topping, even cheese or ham. It's not comparable to, say, the excellent "12 uur" (12 o'clock) or the farmer's omelet. It's the chain's fault, not this particular location's.

The food was delicious, but it's a shame they don't serve vegetables. Our table had to be cleaned because it was dirty, which is a point of attention. The staff were helpful.

Unfortunately, I don’t speak Dutch. I was with my son and a friend who does speak Dutch. I placed the order in English. I specifically asked whether the food was spicy and mentioned that it was for a child. The waiter assured me it wasn’t. However, when the food arrived, it turned out to be spicy, and my hungry son couldn’t eat it. My Dutch-speaking friend raised the issue with the waiter, who then said that they had a children’s menu. When my friend asked why she hadn’t offered it from the start, the waiter replied, “Because they don’t speak Dutch.” The service I would expect is this: if you have a children’s menu and your visitors don’t speak Dutch, it’s worth at least pointing it out. Guests can easily translate it with Google Translate. And if you’re aiming to provide really good service, you might ask what the child would like and suggest some suitable options from the menu. It’s very simple. In addition, the menu itself offered quite a poor selection. Unfortunately, our favourite restaurant nearby was closed, so we decided to try this one instead. The whole experience was disappointing and stressful.

Ordered a chicken crush burger. Very disappointed! One tablespoon of coleslaw, a cheap bun, and undercooked chicken. I might as well have gone to the snack bar. The staff made no effort to accommodate me. And this isn't the first time I've been disappointed. It's bland, disgusting, cheap quality, and poorly prepared.

The restaurant food was excellent. Only when ordering a drink, it wasn't cold enough for everyone. It was a warm evening, and the blond beer hadn't been chilled. So we had to wait until it finally arrived. It didn't get cold that quickly either. So that was a minor drawback. No extra support whatsoever. They should have said I'd give you a voucher for your next meal, or some other gesture. After spending almost 300 euros, it's a complete waste of money.

Op een prachtige lokatie in het centrum van Alphen a/d Rijn ligt restaurant de Beren. Nog geen 200 meter lopen van de parkeergarage. De bediening is zeer vriendelijk en het eten is goed, een aanrader dus. En ben je op de fiets? fietsgarage Aarhof is schuin tegenover de Beren.

I ate there with my family today; it was truly a highlight of our vacation. The food was fabulous. The starter was completely overpriced at €11.50 for 6 prawns! They should have been better. The waiters were all very friendly to us Germans, which isn't often the case. One waitress was still hanging around on the bar stools after she finished work. That's really unacceptable. 😅 The food was, as I mentioned, simply fabulous. I had a schnitzel with pepper sauce. Very well seasoned. The fries were also different from the usual ones they always serve with it. Deserves 5 stars

Deze plek is fantastisch voor stellen van 3 of meer personen. Als je met twee bent , kom je altijd bedrogen uit en wordt je tegen een wand gezet waar je geen zicht hebt op buiten o.i.d. bij de trap naar de toiletten , of in de gang waar de bediening langs je heen snelt. De vraag om een groter/ander tafeltje ( ondanks dat je gereserveerd hebt) wordt negatief beantwoord. Wij komen hier met z'n tweeën niet meer terug, Beetje jammer want het eten is meestal goed, hoewel het ijs al gedeeltelijk gesmolten was ( te lang gewacht met uit serveren) en de schnitzel te doorbakken was. De garnering was ook ver te zoeken, wel gelukkig met voldoende frietjes.

We komen hier al jaren bijna wekelijks. En tevens met de feestdagen. Echter vandaag zat het terras buiten vol. Binnen leeg. We hebben netjes gereserveerd. Waren er 18.10. We werden bediend om half 7. Onze drankjes kwamen 18.50. En ons avondeten kwam niet helaas. Mensen die later waren gekomen zaten inmiddels te dineren. Ons eten zou 19.30 nog 4 minuten duren. Helaas hebben we dit keer bedankt. Terwijl het anders nooit lang duurt. Jammer.

Lousy service. No clearing, ask for bill and have to ask again after 10 minutes of waiting. And then you get attitude... because you don't want to walk away without paying.

Het begon allemaal goed. Broodje vooraf lekker vlot, voorgerecht op tijd en toen......kwam er maar geen hoofdgerecht. Na drie kwartier maar eens gevraagd. We zijn er mee bezig is het antwoord. Inmiddels gasten die ver na ons kwamen al aan de derde gang. Na een uur gezegd als ik het nu niet krijg dan hoef ik het niet meer. Bediening loopt veel heen en weer maar houden jou als gast niet in de gaten. Was al niet zo van de beren, maar nu al helemaal niet meer. Jammer want het restaurant ziet leuk uit. Weet je als je ons bent vergeten zeg dat dat dan maar ga niet met smoesjes komen. Beetje jammer

Had dinner at de beers a few weeks ago, the weather was nice and we had made a reservation for the terrace, there was no place on the terrace but eventually it was. Service was bad, was never asked if it was to our liking or tasty, when our food was put on the table a boy said I have a piece of meat here so we asked which one since there were several others with meat and the response was I have no idea I just have meat, we also had to ask several times for extra mayo which never came, later I ordered a lava cake but it was a dry muffin with no lava coming off it... Drinks were fine but food was a bit disappointing, also when paying they didn't ask if it was to our liking and no amount was mentioned just pay by card. Later in the evening me and 3 others got sick from the food... Been sick all night, I will never come here again!

Het was lekker weer en alles liep vlotjes met uitserveren. Wel zelf vragen elke keer om wat te kunnen bestellen, ze letten niet heel goed op. De sate was prima, weinig mis mee. De spareribs waren mals, maar mega zout en de strike (ketjap)was ver te zoeken. Rauwkost ontbrak en ook de doekjes (maar is netjes opgelost met koffie van het huis) Voor 2,50 euro meerprijs bestelde ik de friet met truffel. Nou de truffel en de Parmezaanse kaas was ver en ver te zoeken, wel 4 frietjes hadden wat van deze saus. Voor 27,50 euro had ik niet echt een smaak beleving. Dan heb je nog eens de kleinste portie (voor mij ruim voldoende) Ik ga voor dat geld dus liever ergens anders eten de volgende keer. Ik wil overal voor betalen , maar verwacht dan wel meer kwaliteit.

Why I only gave 1 star is because nothing came from the bar, there were at least three staff members, but almost all tables were without drinks (terrace full, first day nice weather). I ordered immediately, drinks and bittergarnituur, took a good 20 minutes and then the garnish came at the same time as the drinks. Then I ordered drinks again, took that long again and then came double. No idea if it was because the weather suddenly became nice, but it just wasn't good. Of course I should have explained that one star right away, I will next time. And I'm certainly not a whiner, I come from the catering industry myself, know how hectic it can be, but I wanted to say this anyway. Good work today and have a nice Sunday!

Visited De Beren yesterday. Our choice fell on the 3-course menu. All three dishes were excellent. Compliment for the service. This was smooth and very friendly. Well 2 comments; clean the menu cards every now and then and both portions of the artisanal fries were disappointing. Predominantly hard pieces.

Great restaurant, great service, food based on rib fingers (starter) very little, main course chicken wings not spicy, and dry. After the white chocolate brulee dish, again very little, not warm. Personally, I find the meals small and very ordinary, and I also achieve this level in my kitchen. I miss passion.

Prijs-kwaliteit is niet geheel in verhouding maar de smaak is verder goed. Maar waar ik mij vreselijk aan gestoord heb is dat men bij de koffie een koekje (kletskop) door midden breekt en ieder dus een half koekje erbij krijgt! Wat een waanzin, doe er dan niets bij. Als je dit nodig hebt om je marge op peil te houden zou ik toch een ander soort restaurant kiezen.

Bediening was top, sfeer top. Patat en zoete aardappel lekker. Vlees kipsaté en spareribs was niet te eten. Slecht. Ik raad het af

We had made a reservation at 6:30 PM, at 7:00 PM we finally received a menu card and something to drink, then it took a very long time before we received the starter and main course, at 8:15 PM we were served our main course, only to have a hair in it. We skipped dessert.
