Unfortunately, the spareribs were very disappointing this time. Not what I am used to. The price is €25.50 and you don't even get served half a sparerib. When I mentioned that I found it very disappointing, I was told that this is the new standard from head office. Do you want to eat spareribs? My advice is not to do it at De Beren.

Service was friendly, and food was certainly not bad. Definitely good value for money! We were able to get a table without a reservation. New update: Takeaway and everything was TOP TOP TOP. The contents are clearly stated on the boxes. Food was nice and hot. It was so delicious that I almost bit off my knuckle. Update 2026: Still good!! I even got to catch a fish on their terrace while enjoying a beer. Staff very hospitable and super sweet.

The table we were seated at was very cramped; we could barely sit there. We are a bit on the larger side and were placed in a small corner where I first had to squeeze myself in to pull the table towards me a bit so my partner could still sit. Of course, this was also due to the boor behind him who was sitting with his legs spread out and wouldn't budge an inch. The staff should have seen this and offered us another spot. The food was mediocre. Especially the small bowl of soup. When you took the meatballs out, there wasn't much soup left, though the taste was good. The satay was delicious, but everything else was very meager. The proportions compared to what you received were completely off, and the waiting times were very long before anyone came. Because of the ice cubes in our drinks (first 1, then 2, then 3), we got the impression that they were counting the amount of drinks we consumed that way. We ordered a salad, and that bowl was even bigger with rabbit food compared to the small bowl of fries for 2 people and the 3 satay skewers. The Dame Blanche was okay, but there were large chunks of watery ice in it. We won't be going back anytime soon.

The fact that I don't have much to say means something good. Keep up the good work and until we meet again.

There were five of us. We indicated that we wanted a round table, and that is what we got. We had a delicious meal and friendly service.

Had a lovely evening with my daughter, with delicious food and an incredibly friendly, helpful young man who served us in general! The rest of the staff were also very friendly, and there was a pleasant atmosphere. We will definitely be back!

Lovely canal-side spot with a relaxed atmosphere. The crispy chicken burger was delicious, with a crunchy coating, soft brioche bun and fresh, tangy slaw. The fries were golden and generous too. A very satisfying dinner with a great setting and service — definitely worth a visit 😎😋🙂

The reception was a bit disorganized but certainly welcoming. Furthermore, we received pleasant service at the table and definitely felt welcome. Sitting on the terrace is lovely. The price-quality ratio is also excellent.

Together with my daughter, I dined at De Beren in Alphen aan den Rijn via the AH promotion. We had the three-course menu. We chose the tomato soup as a starter. Our main course was the hamburger with bacon and fries. For dessert, we had the apple crumble with caramel ice cream. The starter and main course arrived quite quickly. We had to wait a bit longer for the dessert, but the restaurant was also quite busy. The food was generally very good. I found a few downsides to be the so-called salad that was served on the plate next to the hamburger with the main course. This was a spoonful of red cabbage salad with raisins. It was nothing special and didn't taste very good either. A scoop of Russian salad would have been tastier. And I found the scoop of caramel ice cream to be very small in proportion to the amount of apple crumble. The service was friendly and they regularly asked in between courses if everything was to our liking.

The pork tenderloin was undercooked on the inside, and there was a long hair in my crispy chicken. We mentioned it, but were ignored by the waitresses afterwards. So, I'll never eat here again.

Okay, a quick tip: arrange the tables and chairs so that both or all people can face the water from the side. I was sitting with my back to it, which is a shame for such a beautiful spot.

Incredibly sloppy. After waiting for some time, we were served drinks, only for one drink to be forgotten. It happens! Then we received the starter, but once again 2 dishes arrived much later (forgotten or miscalculated?), so everyone was eating separately. Next came the main course, and yet another dish was missing (didn't come through properly). So, once we received the last dish, I was eating alone. Maybe nothing can be done about it, but it is very disappointing! Fortunately, dessert went well! Once we had paid, we received a phone call at home saying they had given us the wrong bill and asking if we wanted to come back to pay the remaining amount. It is very bad to pass this self-inflicted mistake on to the customer...

I had high tea at De Beren with my mother. It was a great promotion via Kruidvat: the second person free. It was delicious! Tasty sweet and savory treats, friendly staff, good, fast service, and a cozy atmosphere. We could choose to sit inside or outside, so we opted for the outdoor seating. They responded appropriately to seagulls coming after the food, and empty tables were cleared quickly. A small tip: perhaps a few more tea varieties. But that is a minor detail. Otherwise, highly recommended!

Had a wonderfully refreshing drink on a summer morning on the beautiful terrace of this establishment. Nicely situated in the center of Alphen aan den Rijn. Very friendly staff.

Normally, I am not someone who is quick to write a negative review, but unfortunately, my experience today at De Beren was very disappointing. While eating my burrata salad, I encountered a long hair on my fork after just one bite, precisely at the moment I wanted to take another bite. That is, of course, very unappetizing and raises questions about hygiene in the kitchen. When I reported this to the wait staff, a new salad was offered immediately. I appreciated that, because mistakes can happen. Unfortunately, my appetite had completely vanished by that moment, and I politely declined the offer for a new salad or other food. To my surprise, I was subsequently expected to pay for the salad in full. It was precisely that aspect of service that ultimately made my experience negative. When a dish contains a clear hygiene error and the guest does not wish to continue eating because of it, I expect more understanding and an appropriate solution. It is a shame, because mistakes can happen, but the way in which this is handled makes all the difference. Due to both the hygiene issue and the handling of it, I feel compelled to warn others about this.

We had another delicious meal and a pleasant evening. Although when I got home I did doubt whether I had eaten sea bass, as it looked more like a flatfish. But it was tasty and we had a nice evening, so that shouldn't spoil the fun.

The balloons for the graduate were done really well, as was the fireworks/dessert! Our son really had the night of his life... The food was delicious!!! The staff were very sweet! There was something wrong with my drink and I immediately got a new one, just the way it should be.

Enjoyed a high tea with a pregnant woman and one person with a lactose allergy. We were in frequent contact beforehand to see if it was possible, which was a bit difficult. Two days in advance, I received another call to clear up any uncertainties. I hung up with the feeling that everything would work out. It was a baby shower, so we were allowed to come a little earlier to decorate. They asked if we still needed any items for it. The bottom line was that they thought along with us and took care of everything really well. I am used to the food arriving in shifts, but this time everything came at once. It certainly made the atmosphere on the table very cozy.

We had lunch here on June 7th via Social Deal with 6 people. We had a delicious meal, with plenty of choice on the separate lunch menu. Good ambiance and friendly staff. The restaurant is beautifully situated by the water in the heart of Alphen. In short, we will definitely come back when we are in the Alphen area.

We had the high tea with the voucher that you could only buy at Kruidvat (buy one get one free). It was really very good, the quality was good and it was really too much for us. Very varied.

The food here is always good. However, the cleaning of the place could be kept up to date. There was a thick layer of dust on the glass globes of the lamp in the right corner. The chains of the other lamps were also full of dust at the top. I have reported this before and it was cleaned immediately. I hope that will be done again now. It is a shame that this has to be reported repeatedly.

Just editing my bad review from last time. Finally tried De Beren again after a bad experience. This time it was fantastic. Friendly and fast service, delicious food, and enjoyed the beautiful weather on the terrace. Great!

We were sitting there with two grandchildren. They were hungry and thirsty. Unfortunately, it took quite a long time before we could order, and tables that came after us were served and helped sooner!

What a terrible experience. I was completely ignored upon arrival, while people who arrived later were served immediately. When I politely and kindly pointed this out, the atmosphere changed completely. The waitress got angry, then started continuously gossiping about me audibly with her colleagues, and literally threw my food on the table. Incredibly rude and antisocial. I am truly never coming back here again.

Nice place, nice and good service! Food reasonable. What was disappointing was the "unlimited satay". The first plate consisted of 2 satay skewers, a small bowl of fries, and some vegetables. The moment you indicated you wanted a few more skewers, you received 1 satay skewer. With an interval of about 5 minutes. As a reasonable eater, I do enjoy a few satay skewers. We just laughed about it, and each time it was 1 satay skewer... I understand they want to prevent waste, but the poor waitress had to bring an extra 1 satay skewer 4 times. Thanks to the good waitress who took into account my special request that I don't like peanut sauce. All in all, the food was tasty, but the unlimited satay is truly hilarious. Hence the 2 satay skewers as a star review.

Had a delicious lunch on Mother's Day. Reserved at the last minute but could still choose between the terrace or inside. We sat inside nice and quietly and had the various lunch special. Very tasty and fast service.

We went yesterday for the Easter brunch. We went last year as well and were very satisfied then, so that is why we decided to go again this year. Unfortunately, it was quite disappointing this time. There were 9 of us and we ended up having to pay €400, which really shocked us. Especially considering what was on the table, we felt the price was completely out of proportion. Compared to last year, the selection was very meager. The table was full of (too much) bread, but there was little and mostly simple topping such as standard cheese and cold cuts. For this price, we really expected more luxury products, such as salmon, tuna salad, or other special options. There was also a lack of sweets, which you would expect at a brunch. Additionally, we found the flexibility very disappointing. We had two young children with us, aged 1 and 2, who naturally do not eat a full children's menu costing €19.50. We asked if it was possible to get one portion of pancakes instead of a hot snack (since we still had 8 hot snacks left), but this was not possible; We were forced to order a full children's menu. We found that very disappointing and not very customer-friendly. In short: lots of bread, few fancy toppings, and a price that is completely out of proportion to what you get. Very disappointing and, unfortunately, not worth repeating for us.

Unfortunately, disappointed with De Beren for the first time. I chose the carpaccio sandwich for lunch, and normally it is generously topped. This time, there was just one slice of carpaccio and a few arugula leaves. And you pay 14 euros for that. This is really a bit ridiculous.

We enjoyed a three-course menu from the Kruidvat promotion at De Beren in Alphen aan den Rijn. We received a very friendly welcome from two young ladies. We were served quickly and the selection on the three-course menu was sufficient. And what we chose was delicious. I recommend it to everyone. I also find De Beren in Alphen very cozy. They also have a round table available.

Had dinner on Boxing Day. Cozy location. The starter and main course were fine, though varied. My neighbor got rock-hard spareribs. Another tablemate had more tender spareribs. The salmon was fine. Vegetables from a bag, I suspect not fresh. Dessert was very simple; it could have used more attention. All in all, a very average experience, nothing special. It was therefore on the pricey side.

De Beren Alphen is incredibly disappointing. We had a One4all gift card, which clearly stated on the card that it could be redeemed at De Beren. When we paid, it wasn't accepted. The tone was blunt: "No, we're a franchise." Not annoying or anything. No, we had to pay €61. During lunch, a glass broke. No one came to clean it up. Staff walked past once until I said something, and then, with great difficulty, it was cleaned up. The quality of the food was also much lower than it used to be, and the service, which was always friendly, was anything but customer-friendly. In short, De Beren Alphen aan den Rijn unfortunately no longer has good service, and the quality of the food has become very poor.

Dinner was good, the food tasted very good. But unfortunately, the service wasn't entirely honest. When selecting the main course through the Kruidvat special, the server indicated that "special tonight, 500 grams of spareribs or a 200 gram tournedos" were available, and that these were also included in the Kruidvat menu. It turned out there was a €10 extra charge on the tournedos, so I had to pay an extra €20 for two tournedos. I pointed out that this hadn't been mentioned, and the server said he often refers to them as extras. This wasn't mentioned at the table either, but I was still asked to pay. It's a shame that this attitude of the staff spoiled the enjoyment of the evening.

Went there for lunch on a Saturday. Wel received and swiftly appointed to a table. Food is simple but well prepared. Very nice atmosphere thanks to the team of people working there. Special thanks to Kai & Jamie who took their job seriously. Will go there again some time soon.

I ordered spare ribs here, but they were served cold. After I pointed this out, they were simply microwaved, and we only heard the ping 🤯. The meat was tough and dry afterward, and definitely not what you'd expect from a restaurant. It's a shame, because this should be fresh and nice and hot. I won't be back.

At 6:45 PM we were able to order, indicated we really needed to leave at 8:00 PM, and asked if the four-course meal would be feasible within that timeframe: "If you keep eating, we will." At 8:03 PM, as we were leaving, the main course was served. When I politely expressed my dissatisfaction with the way things were going, I said, "Don't be so angry," and that it was "not our responsibility to accommodate everyone," and that it was "busy in the kitchen." If I had said that immediately, we would have ordered something else. When it came to paying, nothing could be done about it either, "because you ordered this meal yourself." No drink refund, nothing. Regarding the gift card that ultimately couldn't be scanned, I had to email the head office. Where do you find such staff? First and last visit.

Restaurant de Beren is a very nice restaurant to have a sandwich, but it is also the perfect place if you want to eat out there at Christmas or another holiday.

I had lunch here with a friend. It was busy. We were seated at a table in a corner, and I practically sat on the lap of the table next to us. The service was friendly, but it took a very long time. At one point, the sun was right in my face. There were no sunshades.

We ordered a half chicken menu twice. The fries were okay, but the half chicken didn't taste like chicken and had a very strange flavor and aftertaste, probably cremated several times before delivery. The phone service was terrible and rude, and they didn't offer any solutions. In short, we waited 70 minutes for our food, 35 euros poorer, and we were hungry. Thanks, guys, you really made it a fantastic evening!

More than enough. Dinner wasn't necessary in the evening. 😁 Delicious homemade soup. Truly divine. Satay is always good, isn't it? Attentive and friendly waitresses regularly checked to see if everything was to our liking, if it was tasty, and if we wanted another drink. In short: a real treat. We'll have lunch here again next time.

It depends on which one you go to. At the first restaurant, you have to wait a long time for your first drink, and it's also way too long between courses. The sheer quantity of food is also terrible.

Birthday lunch with AH vouchers; initially, we were seated right by the kitchen, as the restaurant was half full, so luckily we were given a table in the conservatory. The bread wasn't fresh that day, neither for the club sandwich (one white, one brown) nor the 12-o'clock snack (two brown, for both the croquette and the carpaccio). Despite asking to leave the mushrooms out of the spicy chicken, they were still in. The steak cubes were very tasty, though. So, we had a lovely time in a nice atmosphere at a great table, but the food was quite disappointing. What a shame!

Had lunch at De Beren today. It was very pleasant and the food was excellent. Until we went to pay. We wanted to redeem our AH voucher, but it wasn't accepted, even though we'd indicated this when making our reservation. We had a lot of discussion, and in the end, we had to pay the full price. It's a shame they showed so little understanding. Whether there will be a next time is debatable. I never give one-star reviews, but this is so incredibly disappointing.
