We had a delicious meal and the grandchildren played happily and were spoiled with delicious ice cream.

The food was delicious as always. Great service, cozy atmosphere.

We had a delicious meal at De Beren in Houten on Boxing Day. We received a warm welcome from the friendly, young staff. We also spoke to the owner and his wife, who are also proud of their staff. The atmosphere was excellent. We'll definitely be back.

I understand that everything has become more expensive, but the ratio is skewed. For the money I paid, I didn't get enough food (in quantity). The rest is an excellent restaurant.

Response: We certainly mentioned this, but you didn't provide a solution. I ate here with a friend; the spare ribs were cold and very greasy. Not tasty. The rest of the dishes were also subpar. It's fine for a drink or lunch, but for dinner, I think it's subpar.

Today I organized my friend's baby shower at De Beren in Houten. Communication via email was fantastic; it was no problem to decorate beforehand. And of course, the high tea was DELICIOUS! Thanks :)

Nice, fast service and good food

Despite of booking beforehand for my son birthday, telling them about his birthday, and asking them to arrange just some nice seconds for him, telling them in person, they brought a fire throwing on the desk and that was it! My poor son!

We had a wonderful meal at a very special Beren restaurant. However, the restroom wasn't very clean, and the waitress initially forgot the cutlery.

Had lunch through a social deal and it was excellent. The location isn't very atmospheric, but the restaurant is. Our service was friendly, but the lady at reception (or manager?) wasn't so great.

At first, it was difficult to find. A warm welcome was given upon arrival and we were quickly helped at our table. My order was taken quickly, and everything was brought to the table quickly, but after that, we couldn't get any more attention from the staff. As a result, we ended up with dry fries because we couldn't order mayonnaise or extra drinks. So we went home without dessert. It's a shame, I'm usually very satisfied with De Beren, but I don't know if I'll go back.

Despite being very busy, we had a delicious meal without having to wait long.

Good food, a bit pricy and not a very wide selection of different dishes (we got the 3 course menu with 6 choices per course), bit certainly enough and also with vegetarian options. We were all satisfied and didn't overeat. Two small mistakes with ordering, but nothing to complain about, otherwise good service, nicely decorated restaurant and not overly noisy. Would recommend, solid 4 stars.

We went for dinner thanks to a Kruidvat deal. The food was good, but the temperature left something to be desired. For €30 for a three-course meal, we can't complain, but at full price, this would have been a bit of an issue.

The food was great, and we brought good company from Brabant. But, oh my goodness, the lady kept asking us every three minutes if she could bring something and if everything was to our liking. Unfortunately! No more nightcaps here!

After a bad dinner experience at Van der Valk, we went to De Beren the next day. It's a great, cozy restaurant with friendly service, following the Beren concept. It's in a strange, remote location on an industrial estate, though. We had delicious spare ribs. We ate at De Beren again the next day.

Last Monday, we had dinner at De Beren with the residents, family, and staff. There were 42 of us in total. We had good communication beforehand and coordinated everything. Upon arrival, we were greeted kindly, and the owner even came to check if everything was to our liking. We were assigned the courtyard, also because we had several wheelchairs, which was fine. The food, the service, the owner, everything was top-notch! The people were lovely, and the food was delicious. Towards the end, we noticed it was getting a bit chilly for the residents, but that certainly didn't spoil the fun! We also happened to have a birthday party in our group, and they arranged something for that too! Not to mention, there's plenty of parking, it's free and easy to drive to! Especially with a large group, I would recommend this to everyone!! Thank you for the service and the concession ❤️

We dined here on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Upon arrival, we waited a long time at the counter. This wasn't a problem in itself, as it can get busy, but it took us 10 minutes to speak to a staff member. To our surprise, they said they didn't have a reservation, even though we had. Fortunately, it wasn't busy, and we were still able to be seated. So, things got off to a bit of a slow start. We received the menu and drinks, and when ordering, we specifically asked if the children's menu could be served at the same time as the main course so the kids wouldn't have to wait too long. Unfortunately, the children's menu arrived at the same time as the starter. When we confronted the staff member about this, he wanted to take it back, but we told him to leave it. Ordering drinks also took a very long time; after almost 20 minutes, we had to speak to someone again. The main course itself was good and tasty, although we were disappointed that the fries don't come with sauce as standard. After we asked about this, it was thankfully taken care of. Dessert also didn't go smoothly: my table companion received his dessert first, and mine arrived 10 minutes later. Furthermore, there was absolutely no suitable dessert available for the child who accompanied us, who has a cow's milk allergy. We found this very disappointing. All in all, the food was good, but the service was unfortunately disappointing. Given the staff and the number of guests in the restaurant, we expected more attention and better coordination. This is reason enough for us not to return anytime soon.

De Beren in Houten is exceptionally child-friendly. You can let your children play indoors on a bouncy castle. If you didn't want the children's noise, you could enjoy your dinner in peace and quiet. The meat was tender and flavorful. Because there were now plenty of waitstaff, you received your food quickly. The price/quality ratio was excellent.

The food was delicious and the free coffee was great. We'll be back soon.

Super tasty food...great service

We were passing through on our way to the beach for some kitesurfing and wanted something to eat. We found this super nice restaurant. The atmosphere was fantastic, and we were immediately welcomed with open arms and shown to our table. The service was prompt and always friendly and attentive, so we didn't want for anything. The food was plentiful and incredibly delicious. I tried the ribs and only like them really well done, and these were perfect. I definitely recommend this restaurant! I would go back anytime I'm in the Netherlands.

Very nice restaurant, with plenty of seating inside and outside. The service is very friendly. For starters, we had carpaccio de beef… absolutely delicious. The spare ribs were a delight. First of all, we enjoy coming here. This time, it wasn't a good experience. The service wasn't as good as we're used to. The waitress asked at the beginning if we wanted a sandwich. Yes! However, she forgot to mention that it would be an extra 7 euros (not a big deal, but just to mention). The men wanted a beer; there were three sizes to choose from (as it turned out), but the waitress didn't ask which one they wanted and automatically gave them the middle one. We had to ask for the other rounds of drinks ourselves. The men ordered spareribs with garlic sauce, and after taking their order, the waitress said there was no garlic sauce left and asked if the men wanted BBQ sauce as a replacement. When the food arrived, there was no BBQ sauce to be seen until the fries arrived; there was only one small container of BBQ sauce, and the waitress ignored us! There was also no sauce for the fries, and no one came back until the food was already gone.

Just fine. There's a bouncy castle for the kids, which is great fun. The food isn't exceptional, but it's not bad either. The price is reasonable.

De Beren in Houten offers delicious and varied food for every taste, attractive deals such as unlimited spare ribs, a warm and cozy atmosphere with friendly service, is easily accessible and delivers the same trusted quality time and time again.

Had lunch here. Upon arriving, I saw all the empty tables on the patio that hadn't been cleared. Guests were leaving, leaving dirty plates on the table. When I reported to the counter, I wasn't noticed. The bar staff also deliberately looked the other way. Eventually, I was greeted and shown to the table. While serving drinks, a splash of beer spilled on my table companion's shoes and the floor. The very young waitress apologized, but didn't come back with a cloth to clean it up. The food itself was decent, but the plates looked half empty because the fries were placed separately on the table for each guest in a single bowl. I don't experience this at other De Beren restaurants. This restaurant is run by (cheap) teenagers and clearly needs some seniority.

If you don't mind the small children playing, it's highly recommended. Friendly and good service and a very tasty meal with plenty of choices. The indoor restaurant is quieter.

Always delicious there, and staff very friendly

The owner of the place doesn't know how to communicate to people in civilized way and he also yells at his own waiters. We got the wrong order and returned it and he made a big fuss about it like it is our fault. Not to say that the food I got was not even adequate for pregnant person so even if I wanted I could not accept it. He also thinks he is generous if he gives tap water to thirsty pregnant woman. I would never be going there again.

The food is subpar. The service is just awful. Disinterested teenagers. Definitely not recommended. Kind of a sophisticated snack bar. Never again!

I've been coming here to De Beren in Houten for a long time. If you ask me, you'd have to believe it's 5 stars. If you're looking for good food at a reasonable price, this is the place to go. Quiet and cozy. Delicious food and plenty of warmth.

A group of 23, including six children, enjoyed coffee and lunch. The service was quick and friendly, and despite the a la carte menu, everyone was served simultaneously. Fantastic! The little ones also had a blast with the bouncy castles and coloring pages.

Last Sunday, more than an hour before opening time, I looked inside, somewhat disappointed. I thought I was way too early. Immediately, someone came to the door and asked, "Would you like a cup of coffee?" "Yes, please," I said, how sweet. "Oh, it'll only take a few seconds," was the response, and that was more than an hour before opening time. Delicious coffee, and I was happy all day. What hospitality!!!! Kudos.

De Beren Houten surprised us! We still remembered the previous concept, but what an upgrade! A fully-fledged restaurant, a great atmosphere, a lovely terrace, and excellent and friendly staff. A place we'll definitely return to.

Very nice place, a bit of a strange place but easy to do with public transport. Easy to park by car. Delicious dishes. Croquette is great. Goat cheese croquette delicious. Calamares cannot be compared to chewing gum from other restaurants. Corndog is tasty but I would not order it again. I was very curious because I had never eaten this before. Spareribs are very tender and fall off the bone. Staff is fast, friendly, neat and correct. TIP. When making a reservation, ask if there are children. Then they can get as close as possible to the bouncy castle. Children happy and parents enjoy a nice meal. It was a fantastic birthday present from my children.
