Restaurant has delicious food, friendly service

Deeply disappointed…! With great enthusiasm, we booked a beautiful-looking apartment at Hotel d'Ouwe Kercke a few days ago. Just before arriving, we received a message that a "luxury" studio was ready for us. Something we absolutely hadn't chosen. When we arrived, we were shown to a studio that bore no resemblance to the photos we'd seen. On the website's reviews, we already saw people reporting being shown to rooms they hadn't booked. Apparently, the excuse is often used that the hotel is full and that's why rooms have been switched. We'll be honest: this "luxury" apartment doesn't seem to exist at all! Everything inside looks old. There was mold and damp on the ceiling. There were extras in the room, such as a stove and a washing machine, but we didn't need them since we were only staying one night. Curtains were also scarce, so it was already completely light in the room at 5:00 AM. It wasn't just the light that woke us up; it was also our neighbor who was smoking in his room, making the whole place stink. When we mentioned all this to the owner, he laughed and said, "Well, we're completely booked, so that's why we're changing rooms." We knew enough and left Terneuzen disappointed.

Spacious duplex apartment. There's a washing machine, which I think is unnecessary. The drain causes odors, making the upstairs unwelcoming. The beds are comfortable, but the converted sofa bed is not. Breakfast is superb.

Great at first glance, but then a real flop (and that for a 4-star hotel) 6 days vacation in Terneuzen At first glance, nice room 2.01 But the entire vacation, despite the promises: Elevator broken Air conditioning broken (with large windows, it gets hot very quickly) Dusty. Large rug in the bathroom with stains No terrace No sea view. No daily service, the selection of promised shampoo and soap is exceptional. Promised streaming service not available Had to keep calling to contact reception. Loose tiles in the toilet and a peculiar smell there as well. Power outlets not next to the bed, and none of the others worked either. Beds no longer than 2 meters, even though the information stated they were. Not soundproof, people leaving at 6 a.m. could be heard every morning. And there were noises for the rest of the days anyway. The kitchen is minimal, only for making breakfast and lunch. The owners, an older couple, are friendly, but not decisive in keeping or making agreements. We paid a lot and didn't receive much. They indicated that what we said and wrote was correct and that they would keep this in mind for future guests. So, what good is that to us?

Our stay was absolutely terrible. We booked a room advertised as suitable for five people, but it turned out to be just a double room that, with some creative shuffling, they tried to make five beds. There was one regular double bed, a worn-out sofa bed, and an "extra bed" that was literally a rickety fold-out frame – as soon as you sat on it, it nearly collapsed. Absolutely unsuitable for sleeping. There was air conditioning in the room, but it didn't work. And this in temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius. We had deliberately opted for this, and it was included in the booking, so that was a major disappointment. When we brought this up at the reception and asked for a different room or a solution, all we were told was that the hotel was full. But the whole building looked deserted – completely unbelievable. There was no consideration or apology. All in all, we simply felt ripped off. What was promised online was completely different from what we received. Poor service, misleading information, and an uncomfortable stay. Absolutely not recommended – we will never return.

Upon arrival, the booked “apartment” turned out to be a much smaller and, in my experience, very dated studio. The view was limited to a wooden deck with a hole in a courtyard. The air supply was blowing all night, the bed was sagging and there was no way to ventilate (the window was completely closed). Hair from the predecessors was still on the bed and the whole thing felt dingy. We feel cheated. And the owners have indicated that the photos presented on the websites do not match the reality of the studio. With a “we are full” and a story that the costs of running a hotel are not cheap, we had to show understanding for the situation. Bizarre. For us a one-time visit with a hangover.

We are very surprised about this beautiful location, incredibly friendly people and you immediately feel that you are entering a family business. After a fantastic meal we are now enjoying a successful evening. Even our son, a difficult eater, is very enthusiastic! Everything is freshly prepared, you can taste this craft!

De inrichting en uitstraling hinken op meerdere gedachten. Online lijkt het een hip restaurant, bij binnenkomst denk je nog: eclectisch, maar eigenlijk is het oud en ouderwets. De bediening is ‘rustig’ - afhankelijk van je stemming noem je dat gemoedelijk of erg traag. We hebben oesters vooraf gekozen. De verse oesters waren erg koud, bijna bevroren. De gegratineerde oesters waren best lekker, veel knoflook en kaas (dan is het al snel lekker). Hoofdgerechten waren voor mij pasta met gamba’s en champignon roomsaus. Die was prima. Het andere hoofdgerecht was pizza diabolo. Het deeg was erg ongaar. Terug naar de keuken gebracht en aan kok gevraagd de pizza te garen. Na poos kwam pizza terug: bord was heel heet, pizza iets bruiner maar echt niet gaar. Niet opgegeten. Na klacht is pizza van rekening gehaald. Wat wij erg vinden is de opmerking: wij krijgen nooit klachten. Alsof het aan ons ligt dat we klagen…

We had asked for the room with the beautiful stained glass window and we received it, thank you. It is also useful that there is a parking lot at the hotel that you can use for free. Very nice large bathroom with bath.

A very cozy hotel and restaurant. We ate beautiful fresh mussels that were well prepared. The bread with the omelet in the afternoon is as fresh as pastry. The atmosphere is good. The breakfast was also very good with that delicious bread again!

Booked a hotel room in the afternoon that we were on our way to visit family in Terneuzen. Arrived and were taken to the hotel room. Truly a beautiful room, but a huge stench in the room. To our disappointment, we did not receive the requested room with a sea view. The room was also not clean, including crumbs on the table. When we indicated to the owner that we did not have the room we booked, he was told: yes, we are full and this was the last room? When we indicated that this was disappointing for us, the owner dismissed it as whining. It was a nice room and we didn't have to complain. We were also late with booking and therefore actually had no right to speak. According to the owner. When we indicated that we would like our money back, the owner's attitude changed enormously. The gentleman wanted to settle it in a certain way and there was no room left for our story. Incredibly rude. Never before have you been treated like this because the other party makes a mistake. First of all, the gentleman didn't want to do anything for us. It was a beautiful room and we couldn't enjoy the sea view because it was already dark outside and we were going to watch football with family. So what were we whining about? Ultimately we had to agree to a partial refund. The gentleman did not want to listen to our story, remained unfriendly and it was his proposal or nothing. Never been treated so unkindly. You don't get the room you booked and are portrayed as a nagging person. Bah!

The best place to eat Mussels from Zeeland. « Zeeuwse Mosselen » is a Dutch local dish you don’t want to miss and this is the best place in Terneuzen to enjoy it!

We had to wait !!1h 15min!! for our pizza and then we still got a pizza that wasn't baked through!! Where you had to look for the cheese! Not recommended to order pizza! Tastes like cardboard

Food was very tasty, service nice, atmosphere will undoubtedly be pleasant. Now it wasn't busy (4 tables), but the decor etc. feels cozy.

Unfortunately a bad experience... we had to wait more than an hour to be served! And the taste was not there. One of the pizzas had a hole of several centimeters, the pasta was overcooked without enough toppings for the quantity of pasta, and if the average price of the dishes is reasonable (10€), we had the unpleasant surprise of paying 30 € per pan of mussels (price not displayed)...ok they were good but that doesn't justify this excessive price compared to the rest. The pompom was the bill! There the waitress demanded that only one person pay the total €300... we said that it wasn't possible, so she asked that everyone pay in cash haha ​​obviously we didn't give in and we were able to pay separately. And I won’t detail the refusal to issue an invoice or the €8 bottle of water!

Not much choice for a fish restaurant. Half were unavailable. Was also not mentioned when the menu was given. Then they just left. The restaurant also looks like a construction site. Not a very pleasant place to sit....

Very hospitable welcome with a welcome drink. The room is neat and equipped with lovely box springs. Upstairs there is even a living room with a large flat screen television, sofa, dining table and small kitchen, even a washing machine. Breakfast was good and extensive. Owner is hospitable and super nice. Good free parking I'll definitely return

We thought it was an unattractive space

Het restaurant hinkt wat op twee gedachten, een pizzeria maar ook een visrestaurant. Bij de aperitief hadden we een gin tonic. Toen we die kregen bleek ofwel de tonic ofwel de gin roze te zijn. Welk van beide was niet meer te achterhalen want de mix was al gebeurd. Tot daar aan toe, maar die was ook niet koud genoeg en bevatte geen ijsblokken. De dienster was wel heel vriendelijk en heeft ons dan ijsblokken bezorgd. Het eten zelf vonden zowel mijn vrouw als ik niet erg lekker. Op de rekening werd de tonic er ook nog eens apart bijgerekend alhoewel de prijs op de menukaart duidelijk vermelde dat het de prijs voor de gin + tonic betrof. Ook dit werd echter door de dienster met de glimlach rechtgezet. Het menu op de website is ook niet up to date. Mijn vrouw had haar zinnen gezet op osso buco, maar ter plaatse hoorden ze het in Keulen donderen.

Pizzas are not their specialty. It was a very strange pizza, which could have come straight from a packet. Some random pesto to disguise how tasteless it actually is.

Bah bah bah vomit worthy ordered pizza with 4 people were the only ones in the restaurant and it took 2 hours before it arrived pizza was a bit raw I think they were also store pizzas were very flat and very dirty not fresh I actually wanted noise there I started walking because I didn't want to pay for this, it was so dirty

1 star is actually too much for this restaurant, this is certainly not the place for pizzas, if you fancy crispy and dry fried dough, then I definitely recommend this place!! The taste of the gratinated mussels was fine, a pity about the bottle of sunflower oil that was just served, and a pity about the sandbox that had a party in my mouth. In short, if you feel like dining in this restaurant, that is not wise....

Food was really bad. First it takes an hour before food is served. Didn't get what we ordered. We ordered smoked salmon with avocado. We were served fried very dry salmon with fries. The salmon really didn't taste good, I took a bite and immediately spit it out. Suspected it had gone bad. The fries were half raw. Pasta was also really poor. Ingredients were missing that were on the menu. Tables were not cleared. A bit special. It wasn't that busy. If you can't handle customers. Please indicate this. Saves frustration. Let's hope we don't have food poisoning. The pizza was tasty.

The food was expensive and not fair for the price. The pizza wasn't crispy

Not recommendable. We had to wait 70 minutes for our pizza even though we were the only guests in the restaurant. The pizza base was very thin and only sparsely coated with tomato sauce, you had to look for cheese and so much garlic that it tasted bitter. Pizza is just way too dry. You had to ask for a drink refill.

The muscles were nice but pricey - garlic sauce that came with them was great. The pizza was average. Food came with a free portion of frites. No drinks menu but there was a bar. Service could have been better and the restaurant should have been cleaner.

Little bit creepy, food was too expensive for what they give you. My salad was so small for 9€ also the Pizza was very flat.

In Juni in Bordeaux streek veel Fruit de Mer gegeten. Dus ik was benieuwd hoe d'Ouwe Kercke het ervan terecht brengt. Echt heerlijk, zeker zo goed als in La Cotiniere Oleron. Dus volgens mij heeft restaurant d'Ouwe Kercke een goede aanvoer van verse schaal-en schelpdieren. Echt de moeite waard

The mussels were fine, but the restaurant was very bare and there was little atmosphere. Unfortunately it was very quiet, which may have made it extra noticeable.

Doesn't look or feel like an Italian restaurant. We ordered 2 times the spaghetti carbonara for our kids. The portions are huge but the pasta is very sticky. There was a strange after taste as well. For me to much onions and not a real carbonara as we would have expected from an Italian. For people above the age of 60, be sure you go to the toilet first. I went to the toilet and the stairs are very dangerous! As soon you open the door you see that famous stair. Quality-price is OK. The lady who served us could have be a little bit more friendly. I would have given a 3⭐ but due to the stairs I can give you only 2⭐.

Lures with pizza but actually a mussel restaurant. Toilet is down a life-threatening narrow spiral staircase. The food was not good, we opted for pizza and calzone but the filling was hard to find. No oil to add a little flavor,..

We just picked up pizza and pasta here. This one was cold and very bad. The pizza was supposed to be a truffle pizza and it cost 13.00. It was a piece of dough with exactly 8 slices of mushrooms, no truffle, a few piles of garlic and oregano. Cheese was also not to be found. The pasta was pretty much the same story. My boyfriend just threw this up in the toilet and we decided to write this review.

Restaurant 'd Ouwekecke now also has a Salto Italia menu. Pastas, Pizzas and beautiful salads. My wife had a delicious Mozzerella salad with roasted peppers. I had half a portion of pasta with cream sauce and poached salmon. Then a delicious pizza. A Margharita and a Fungi with garlic. Highly recommended this new Italian menu and a very competitive price.

Only rarely have such tasty models been enjoyed.

During our holiday in Zeeland we ate delicious mussels. The service was very helpful and very nice. The restaurant looks nice and neat. Highly recommended if you want good food.

Visited the renovated business. Is bombastically large and impressive large dining room with some beautiful details. If you ask anything about it, you are probably looked at apathetically by the hostess without getting a clear answer Order café machiato, after more than 15 minutes it is served, despite no people outside 3 diners in the shop. Our observation is a bland coffee with milk, which has nothing in common with a machiato. With a polite comment we simply received the answer, for us it is a machiato. I think they should take barista training or learn to operate their coffee machine the way it should be. Leaving the place very disappointing, and without it we didn't get a good day or thank you. Certainly not recommended, it was the first and last time we went there. There are customer-friendly businesses in Terneuzen and better. It is also not easy to go to the toilet for people who have difficulty walking and are not very tidy and there was no toilet paper, so they had to look for another toilet.

The menu is very limited, three starters and five or six main courses. But very tasty! A nice amuse, nice big tongue, fragrant bouillabaisse. Add ice cream with fresh fruit. Good wine, nice coffee.

Nice restaurant where you can eat really hard

A large group (> 100) used a buffet at the same time. Tightly arranged, many serving points and sufficient staff available for e.g. the provision of drinks. Price/quality in the right ratio, it was a simple meal. Used the facilities for the second time and was satisfied for the second time.

Wonderful experience. Top class restaurant for very reasonable prices. Presentation and taste were top notch, never had better and more beautiful dishes then in Ouwekercke. I look forward to my next meal in this wonderful restaurant.
