We sat outside in the garden and that was very good and pleasant; inside it was busier, noisier, and people were sitting closer together. We ordered the rijsttafel. Lots of variety, the flavors themselves were OK, but *all* the meat (chicken, beef, pork) was far too dry. Given this concept (all sorts of small dishes), it's impossible that this wasn't the case for everyone who ordered a rijsttafel (but most people don't say anything or don't dare to, I think). We didn't finish everything, but we didn't want to take a doggy bag; we weren't going to eat more dry meat. The peak is apparently already 10 years behind us, because the window is covered with appreciation stickers from the VVV, Michelin, and the like, but as far as I know, none from after 2017. We mentioned the meat issue to two people in response to the question of whether everything was okay, but there wasn't really a reaction to that. In fact, the person at the cash register just blithely responded by asking if the rest was OK? 🙈 Faded glory, too bad...

Everything was very neatly prepared and extensive, but if you have a shellfish allergy, you are out of luck, because almost everything is prepared in shrimp paste. My table companions ordered the rijsttafel, and the staff made sure I could order a babi panggang for myself, which does not use shrimp paste.

Went out for dinner with an Indonesian friend. She thought it was very tasty and felt the food tasted just like home. I am not Indonesian myself, but in my opinion, I have eaten better Indonesian food in the Netherlands, and found it slightly less impressive here. It certainly wasn't bad, but it wasn't exceptionally tasty either. We were required to spend a minimum of €19.50 per person, with desserts not counting. We didn't know this before we made the reservation, so that was a bit of a shame. Fortunately, in the end, it wasn't a disaster, and we had a good meal. We spent about €70 for two people, so the price wasn't too bad in the end.

We had a wonderful evening with our group. We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed a delicious meal. The meat was tender, and we savored the various dishes and flavors. There was a misunderstanding regarding the order, but it was resolved perfectly. We were able to enjoy a leisurely and leisurely meal and relax afterwards with a drink. Highly recommended.

We did not receive all the dishes from our rijsttafel. We only noticed this afterwards because we briefly checked the menu. The waitress who served us handled this well and indicated that she would deduct it from the price. When it came time to pay, the owner came over and subsequently refused to do so. There is nothing to complain about regarding the food, it is delicious! The rijsttafel is highly recommended! In terms of hygiene, it could be a bit cleaner; there were dead flies on the windowsill and the air conditioning that was on didn't look too fresh. Additionally, it took a very long time every time before we could order something to drink, especially when it is very hot; drinks are your easiest source of income.

Yesterday, we went to eat at (Indonesian) restaurant Bunga Malati for the first time in a while. It had been 8 years since we last went, and we wanted to go out for a nice meal. So, Indonesian food. We arrived and were able to sit outside; it looked cozy. Too bad about the many flies. The order was taken, and we received our first drink. Behind us sat an older couple who had ordered a large Indonesian rijsttafel. We heard them grumbling a bit to the waiter about the food not being good. Everything was too dry and not good. We thought taste can differ from person to person, so we hoped at least that wasn't the case for us. We had ordered a bit of everything on a small scale, and what I really like is that roasted hot chicken, or a half leg or chicken wing in delicious spicy sauce, just like we were used to at the Indo. And every Indo makes it differently, which is why we go to every Indo restaurant. We were asked beforehand if they should remove the chicken from the bone so that we would only get the juicy grilled chicken. I said that was perfectly fine! By then, we were three-quarters of the way through! There were waiters, but they just walked past and around us, and no one asked if we wanted another drink; it was 30 grams. Dirty tables piled up all around us that hadn't been cleared, and flies swarmed onto them in large numbers. We were really in the mood for Indonesian food. We go to Indonesian restaurants very often because we love them. The food arrived. At first glance, everything looked good. What struck me immediately was the chicken. It was just pieces of cut chicken, just like the chicken fillet platter at the Turkish place. Only then in different sauces. We had ordered a total of 6 dishes, of which 2 were lukewarm/cold; the pork patty wasn't even nicely grilled, it was those spongy pieces of pork. The meat was just glistening 3 chicken dishes which I thought were nice grilled chicken and not pieces of chicken (mass-produced that we could make ourselves at home. There was absolutely no Indonesian food, far from it It really made no sense. In between, no one came by to ask if it tasted good or if we might want something to drink No, absolutely no one and it really wasn't that busy. Unfortunately, we also couldn't indicate that some dishes weren't warm The rice was heated in the microwave The top of the rice was so hard you could throw it at someone to kill them and dry inside you couldn't put your fork in it We sat there for about 3 hours and we had a drink twice (I had to ask for it) We indicated that we didn't like the food and that some dishes were just lukewarm. The manager (I think) came by to ask what was wrong and indicate that the food was lukewarm and not tasty And tastes differ, right? It's possible you guys like it, but anyway, we were used to much, much better. We were there certainly not out to ask for a refund, but I did want to indicate that this was far from good. The only thing he said in response was, "Well, that's a shame to hear," and nothing else. That was his answer. He could have at least offered a drink, but he couldn't even manage that. I said: just give me the bill and we are never coming back. I had to pay 160 EUR, by the way. Just take away the Indonesian part and call it Buga Malati, because that's all it is, far from it actually. Once again, tastes differ by person, and one person likes this and another doesn't. It is based on our opinion and what we know about Indonesian food. So try it yourself. I wouldn't do it. Personally, I would go eat in Breda, Roosendaal (unfortunately this one is closing, grandma was 75 years old), or Tilburg. Real Indonesian traditional food. Freshly made. Truly delicious.

What a surprise, Delicious food, well prepared and nicely served. The ladies working here are neatly dressed and extremely polite, which is no longer the norm these days. The only thing that did strike me was the price. For the rijsttafel we ordered, we had to pay €44.50 per person. This is quite a hefty sum for a "simple" rijsttafel. I also don't understand the extra charge for having bami instead of white rice on one occasion. The food was certainly very tasty; there is nothing to complain about there, as I already wrote. But not everyone can enjoy it due to the price, and that is a shame because everyone should be able to eat here.

Fantastic! We had a wonderful meal again.

The food was delicious. We put together our own menu. Whether you like meat, fish, or vegetarian, there is plenty of choice. I really liked the sambal goreng telor. Very friendly, nice people. Worth eating there sometime.

Expectations ran high. Because everyone I spoke to was very complimentary about this restaurant. Despite being much too early for our reservation, we were immediately escorted to our table. And that without much fuss. The atmosphere is also very relaxed. The choice of a rijsttafel menu was quickly made. And because it was a special occasion, it became a rijsttafel with yellow rice. As an "expert by experience," the deciding factor for me is always the taste and composition of the rice. And in this case, it didn't pass my rice test. The rice consisted of one lump. And it was clearly not steamed before being served. Yellow rice is supposed to be somewhat sticky. But it shouldn't become a lumpy mass. A shame, because the side dishes and desserts were very flavorful. And varied. The service was also really great and friendly. All in all, I won't be visiting this restaurant again anytime soon.

Craving Indonesian food and then—finally—getting to know Bunga Melati. I know from my upbringing what Indonesian food tastes like, which means I am always quite picky and critical. We opt for takeout. I call to ask if a vegetarian adjustment to the monthly menu is possible (necessary with one vegetarian and one omnivore in the household), and it turns out there is. The satay ayam can be replaced by two skewers of satay tofu at no extra cost. Because the rest of the monthly menu is already entirely vegetarian, the meat dishes (rendang and babi panggang kecap—roasted pork in soy sauce) remain on the menu. Friendly service at the pickup, and then home with a bag full. My heart was pounding with anticipation—but it turned out to be a disappointment. Not because the portions were small or poorly prepared, but because the babi panggang was as dry and tough as a shoe sole and the rendang tasted as if a bad spice paste from a packet had been used. According to my dining companion, the satay tofu was "okay," and little could go wrong with the rest. A real shame! I don't know if we will give it another try... despite the service and the beautiful location.

The food is great, but it takes forever to get to the table. Waiting an hour and a half for your meal is unacceptable, especially considering how many people also pick up their takeout menus in between. Wouldn't it be a better idea to limit that a bit and give more priority to restaurant guests?

Indonesian dishes have been served here for years in a picturesque farmhouse with thatched roofs and warm lighting. As soon as you drive onto the property, you feel like you're visiting someone's home rather than a standard highway restaurant. Inside, the ambiance is warm and inviting. Immediately upon entering, there's a bar where drinks are poured and you can wait with a drink. The dining room is furnished primarily with large, beautifully set tables for groups. Red tiles cover the floor, the walls are partially brick, and large round lampshades hang from the ceiling, casting a soft light. Combined with the photographs and Indonesian details on the walls, this creates a nostalgic atmosphere that perfectly complements the cuisine. You should definitely order the rijsttafel (rice table) here; that's clearly Bunga Melati's specialty. You can choose from various rice tables, such as the Bunga Melati rice table, a special version, a fish rice table, and a vegetarian version. We opted for the special rice table. It consists of a long row of dishes presented in stages. Side dishes include prawn crackers, crispy cassava chips, and fried coconut serundeng. There are also vegetable dishes like sayur lodeh and acar with various vegetables in sweet and sour sauce. Also available are sweet-fried potatoes, green beans with tofu, and, of course, gado gado in peanut sauce. I was on my way from Belgium back to Germany. At lunchtime, I found myself at the Dutch-Belgian border and started looking for food options. I like Indonesian food and so I found Bunga Melati. The restaurant is in a quite isolated location in a rural area, but the food is excellent and the service was very friendly as well. There is a dedicated parking lot and - a rarity for the Netherlands - it's free. Highly recommended.

It's not as good as before. The meat was tough, and the flavors and types were mostly the same. I've had better food here, and it was also pricey. It's a shame, as there were 7 of us, including one vegetarian. We wanted a rijsttafel (rice table) for 5, but behold, there were 7 of us, so we had to order one for 7. There was a lot left over, and they didn't offer to take the leftovers home, even though they did ask the people behind us. No, it's a shame I ate a lot there, but I'll try something different next time.

We went there with our whole family last weekend. It was our first time. There was a picture hanging at the entrance that immediately caught our eye: a horrific image of the terrible times of slavery. We were all shocked, and our pleasant evening was ruined. It's a real shame; we won't be going there again. I told the staff, and the man didn't react positively, which is a real shame.

We had lunch here, and it was delicious. The service was super friendly and helpful. One of us can't eat gluten, and they made some excellent suggestions. So it was still early in the day, and the restaurant was quiet. I think it's even more lively in the evening.

We went here for the first time last week and really enjoyed it. The food is very tasty, although the meat (beef) is a bit dry. This is a part of it, of course, but it still doesn't make it great. The food (we had one of the rijsttafels) is beautifully served in many small bowls, making it a great place to eat together. Personally, I would have preferred a bit more variety in the flavors and meat/fish options per rijsttafel. There are currently four types of rijsttafels: two with mainly beef, one vegetarian, and one where all dishes include mussels. You can also choose to have just one dish or create your own rijsttafel. It's not cheap, though. There is a monthly menu at a very reasonable price! The staff is friendly and comes by a few times to ask if you're happy with it and if you'd like another drink. We will definitely go back, but then we'll choose what we like from the menu so we can try more fish and chicken, for example.

Delicious Indonesian food, still just like it was years ago. Authentic flavors and good quality. Unfortunately, the atmosphere leaves much to be desired: no more hostesses in traditional dress, an uninviting outdoor area, inappropriate music, and a loudspeaker outside that looks cluttered. Inside, nothing has changed, and the building could use some improvement. The food is excellent, but the ambiance and experience really need more attention.

The best Indonesian food we've ever had. Very friendly staff. Beautiful location with a warm atmosphere. The menu features various rijsttafels, meaning a variety of small dishes that you can order for two or more people. Above the a la carte menu, it says you can also create your own rijsttafel from these dishes. However, this does NOT mean that you can order small dishes and sample everything, as you would with a regular rijsttafel, but that you can order multiple main courses for the full price. This message on the menu causes confusion and is unnecessary!

Last night (1/8/25) we had a special rice table. It was a cozy restaurant, but it got a bit noisy when we got there. The food was good but not great, and almost all the dishes were very mild. The menu listed prawn crackers and Sambal Goreng Kentang, but they hadn't been served (!). We came from Breda to Alphen, but next time we'll choose a restaurant in Breda...

I can highly recommend this restaurant! We had a delicious meal here and the staff was also very friendly. With the Indonesian rice table we got a lot so we also took some home. That turned out to be more than enough to dine again. Really great!!

The food was fine but I find it absurd that you have to spend at least €19.50 per person. We are small eaters and now had to order much more than we could eat. Too bad, I have never experienced anything like it. All in all, the three of us paid €130.

Got Bami here on Saturday with Bami pangang. The meat was very tough. Have eaten here many times. Never had such bad meat before. When I ordered the employee said . Please hurry up with what you want to order. I found this very unfriendly. There is very little choice for 1 person eater

Food was really bad, old meat heated up in the microwave, and most dishes had the same sauce, no taste at all, it doesn't resemble Indonesian food. Plus ordered rice table 5 times, really small mini portions. PLUS the wine was very poor quality, looked like it had water in it.

Yesterday ordered 2x monthly menu. 1x with nasi kuning and 1x with bami. Food was good. Except for the bami. Didn't taste like anything. Was just noodles with ketjap and a few pieces of meat. Tasteless.

Makreel niet goed klaargemaakt. Er zat ook iets in wat er niet thuis hoorde!!! Bedorven misschien...?? In ieder geval uitgespuugd. Laten staan. Kom iets anders krijgen maar hadden geen trek er meer in. Geen andere compensatie mogelijk. Starre houding en slechte zaak commercieel gezien. Wat is ca 8 euro tov een ontevreden klant.

We picked up food. Spring roll was tasty. But everything else was sugary sweet. I thought Indonesian was spicy and spicy, but nasi and bami special and large shrimps only tasted like sugar. We didn't eat it.

Had dinner here on December 8. This was our first time. Due to a confusion in the reservation, we got the nicest table (nice in front of the window), according to the host. We received excellent help from El, a very nice guest! The food looked fresh and (still) tasted delicious. Two hours after eating, my partner became unwell (nausea, tingling, itching all over the body), eventually resulting in vomiting several times. Unfortunately, it was my turn not long after. Unbearable stomach pain resulting in nausea and repeated vomiting. Contacted the GP when the pain was no longer bearable...received heavy pain relief and stomach protectant. Suspicion: food poisoning for both of us. We contacted the restaurant to report this (who knows, maybe several guests had reported this?). Both by email and by telephone. Unfortunately, the restaurant and the owner did not feel compelled to accommodate us in any way. Not even verbal apologies. Reason: we are the only ones with a complaint. The restaurant and the owner do not want to take responsibility for the fact that their food made us sick. We are very disappointed and have reported this to the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority. Sadly, we will never return and discourage others from visiting this restaurant.

We kwamen hier regelmatig maar nu enigszins teleurgesteld. We gingen met vier personen eten waarvan 2 personen een gastric bypas. We wilden graag voor 2 personen een rijsttafel en twee soep bestellen, maar daar waren ze het niet mee eens. We moesten nog twee hoofdgerechten bestellen. Dit tegen onze zin gedaan en uiteindelijk bleef er dus heel veel voedsel over. Zo jammer om gedwongen te worden. En ik wordt zo moe met dat Engels in ons mooie Nederland

Ordered at 6:10 PM, picked it up at 7:10 PM and only received my food at 7:35 PM. I understand that it is busy, but it might be nice to better estimate the ordering time. Unfortunately, the food was also cold and 1 meat dish was tough. Shame.

An unsurpassed restaurant with the only real authentic flavors as Indo-grandma intended. It's always a pleasure to be here, to taste, to enjoy. No other Indonesian restaurant delights me as much as Bunga Melati. It's incredible that they can always serve the flavors and that nothing will ever disappoint. Host Lody serves you a delicious bottle of white wine. Great for inviting friends. Highly recommended!!!

After more than 25 years I visited Bunga Melati again. Why didn't you go for so much time? Well, in the past the owner's wife would walk past the tables and you would be asked how things tasted. She left and her son took over the company and the old atmosphere was completely missing. Now, after 25 years, the interior has been considerably pimped up and you feel much more at ease again. The atmosphere has also become inviting. My guest (non-Indo) had a delicious meal, but I missed all taste and smell due to a Corona attack and that is why I have no comment about the quality of the food; It all looked good and I'll leave it at that. Definitely go back again to taste it under better conditions.

Opened in 1981 and the interior for a large part geld still from that era but as it is located in an old farmhouse its still amazing. The staff is very welcoming and friendly and the food is amazing. We will definitely return very soon.

Picked up food yesterday. What a farce, a huge disappointment. Sole in sweet and sour sauce looked like an indefinable fish that had been in the freezer for months camouflaged in a tasteless sweet and sour sauce. Bami had been replaced by nasi of which we had already ordered 2. Was definitely our last order. If you see this as an entrepreneur, you better stop.!!!!
