Good food, nice place to eat, service was good too

Very slow. With the restaurant half empty, it took them over 45 minutes to serve us, and we were with a 1.5-year-old baby. Some tables (of locals) arrived later, ate, and left before we could try ours... The food was very good, but the ratio of portions varies greatly depending on the dishes. The dish of the day was very filling compared to the three pieces of tuna tataki + three pieces of roast beef (approximately €15). The sandwich was missing a piece of bread to be a sandwich, otherwise it wouldn't be called toast. Expensive for what we ate.

I’d been wanting to try this place for a long time. We came with a reservation for a friend’s birthday, and the staff were extremely kind and attentive, which made the evening feel special. Food-wise, my salmon dish was good and I was happy with it. However, friends who ordered meat and else were less impressed — portions felt small and the flavors were a bit average. The desserts were a highlight, though. Overall: great service and ambiance, but the food was a mix of hits and misses. It also felt a bit pricey for the portion sizes compared to other places in Haarlem

We had a wonderful lunch. The carpaccio and salmon sandwiches were a hit. The service was very friendly; you should be served like this more often :) For a city center location, it's a really nice restaurant with a great atmosphere. Definitely recommended.

We spontaneously stopped by Metzo for dinner last night. It looked very inviting. The service wasn't unfriendly, but not particularly friendly either. Unfortunately, we had to wait a long time for our food. It looked beautifully presented, but the taste was a disappointment! The steak wasn't medium as requested and was a bit tough – for almost 30 euros. The watermelon steak was very small – for just under 19 euros. The triangular rösti was very dry, and again, the quantity was very limited. The only convincing thing was the burrata.

The main course, which was the catch of the day (bream), was fantastic. I liked the garnishing and the wonderful mix of flavours and colours. The oysters were fresh and tasty. I was slightly disappointed by the dessert. Advertised as a raspberry cake, it lacked both the raspberry taste and the tanginess typical of the fruit. I believe this was an exception, and the other desserts probably match the exquisiteness of my main course. I also must point out how they serve the tea – I was surprised by how they offer you six boxes with different loose-leaf teas so you can smell and choose which one you wish to try. I loved the presentation and the tea types they offer. The people who work in the restaurant are all very friendly.

We had an excellent meal at Metzo. Delicious kingfish ceviche, perfectly prepared with the accompanying Spanish Verdejo. Delicious lobster and desserts. The younger staff was sometimes a bit curt, but the older staff was very attentive and friendly.

1 star for service. Rude. Disrespectful. Feels like they are doing YOU a favor for being there and having the doors open.

Delicious food in a picturesque street.

This is all about the bisque. So much pepper, it brought tears to my eyes, so I couldn't taste anything else. I don't have much experience with bisque, so I thought it was supposed to be that way, but by chance, a chef was sitting at the table and said he nearly spat it out later. His explanation was that there was too much salt in it, which had been tempered with pepper. I only learned this afterward. So, don't eat bisque there!

Even eat at metzo the food was very tasty compliments to the chef and his team especially the tartare with duck liver is really recommended and top performance of the kitchen. the service could be better I had to wait half an hour for the coffee while there was hardly anyone. the plates on the table flop as if you don't feel like it. everything off the cuff take an order and double check. if they do something about the service I would come back.

Came here to celebrate my birthday and it was a great choice! First off delicious wine. Great starters with the Jamon and burrata crème. The iberico lomo was really tasty and the fries on the side were a good addition. Espresso Martini hit the spot for a post dinner drink and dessert in one.

A little away from the tourist hotspots of Haarlem, this is an excellent place for a quality lunch. A very good, fresh tap and a quality dish (Italian hamburger) accompanied by crispy fries are not to be missed.

We were recommended this restaurant by the owners of our accommodation. The food was excellent. An excellent selection of wine which could be ordered by the glass. Service was also very professional. I would recommend.

Found by chance in the center just outside the regular shopping street. Looks trendy with a nice terrace with heating. We had lunch here. The choice was difficult because all the sandwiches looked delicious. In the end we went for a grilled tuna sandwich and the grilled steak sandwich. Both delicious. Cappuccino also tasted good. Definitely recommended, we will come back here for dinner.

Had a delicious "pulled" beef sandwich

A few weeks ago I had a lovely lunch on the terrace, and since then I have been dreaming about the burrata we ordered. Went back today, ordered the ricotta cake and were in seventh heaven again!

Nice restaurant, very friendly staff, great choice of wine.

We found this restaurant through the recommendation of our guidebook, was not able to walk in and made a reservation for the next day. We came back for dinner and was pleasantly surprised how good it is. We ordered the lamb duo and fish and gamba. Both dishes were prepared to perfection and absolutely delicious. We loved the entrees so much that all three of us ordered deserts: White chocolate ganache cake, rhubarb creme brûlée, lemon panaconada. All of them turned out as impressive as the entrees. We are super happy that we found the restaurant and definitely will come back if in town again.

Everything is right in this tent. Good food, good staff and the wines are just as good!

The restaurant makes a great first impression – the interior is beautiful, the atmosphere is cozy, and everything is clean. The staff is polite and friendly. However, the waiting time for our order was disappointing: we arrived at 5:30 PM, but our two steaks were served only around 7:00 PM, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. The food was delicious, but for €28, the portion seemed too small. Overall, it was a mixed experience: good service and tasty food, but the long wait and portion size didn’t quite match the price

I wish I could give 4.5 stars! The service is great and the atmosphere is super cozy. The only thing they could improve is the lunch menu. The portions (sandwiches) are really small and my steak sandwich only had 3 small strips of steak on it. The thing they could improve is adding sides to the lunch menu for example a side salad or fries. We assumed they had fries and ordered them but would be better if they had sides listed!

I liked the service, they were fast and friendly. ❤️ Their dishes looked very pretty but they were kind of tasteless. ( especially for the pasta) The ingredients they use is fresh but I think chef can add some more depth to the taste ☺️ Thank you 🙏

We were a group of 3 for the early light lunch at 11:30AM, booked one hour before in advance (this was a ✅️ right decision, we got the best table near the window, and after the 12PM restaurant was fully booked) we took 🦞 Lobster soup (bisque soup in the menu), along with Dutch schnapps, Italian 🍺 beer , and excellent 👌 coffee ☕️ Thats were super delicious . The Metzo is a gem in one of Haarlem's most beautiful Gouden Streets. We received a super nice welcome from Jeroen and let him guide us through the evening. From the wine recommendation to two excellent fish dishes to the dessert, everything was a dream. Thank you Jeroen and thanks to the kitchen team for this culinary delight!!! In our opinion, Metzo is a clear recommendation!

We found in Haarlem a number of better restaurants. By far the finest food destination of our short tour of the country. Restaurant Metzo was one of three spots we enjoyed, located just off of the town center, on a quiet cobbled street lined with shops and bistros. The non rushed atmosphere of this place was welcome after a day of high season crowds and high temperatures. Pleasant from the start. Being offered flat tap water instead of the 6-10€ bottled water so common everywhere. We chose single glasses of wine as opposed to by the bottle. We were happy with these selections. The bottle list was extensive. The menu was well rounded, without being too busy. Starters and mains featured meats, fish and seafood and salads. Vegetarian options as well. I'm not sure about vegan. We enjoyed a kingfish carpaccio as a starter. Just enough to share. Our two mains were the the same. The Chef's special, Cote de boeuf, (entrecote) with local veg, puree sweet potato and a sauce underlying it all. A selection of cheeses were chosen after the mains. The service was "professional casual" and they were very patient and understanding of our language shortcomings. And again, un hurried. Delightful. Highly recommended.

The best bread olive oil and butter appetizer I've had in a while. Each of the 3 items were perfect. The main course was flavourful and well presented. Each bite revealed something even better inside the pappadum. The dessert was sublime and words probably won't be fair to use, go try it. Chocofruityicy serenity. It's easy to be pricey and good but this is one of the best value for money hi quality gastro experiences in Haarlem imo. Came in for a light lunch today. The carrot replacing the salmon sandwich was tasty and fresh. The pomegranate with orange mint and ginger was interesting and rejuvenating. The star of the show was the portuguese pastry based dessert and it was deliccccious!! Total bill was under 25 eur which felt like really good value for money. This place is growing on me.

What a surprise this restaurant was!! Last Wednesday, the two of us had a really delicious meal and drinks in a very nice corner by the 'open (gas) fireplace'. Service was also really good, guest-oriented and personal. In short, highly recommended! We Will be back!

What a gem of a place. Spent the day in Harlem by taking the train from Amsterdam central for 5 euro. Harlem has a very cool vibe, great independent shops and a lovely square. Cute side roads and you will happen upon this gem of a place. Drinks at the bar followed by a superb open steak sandwich and fries. Lovely owners, great atmosphere but above all, great food! Will visit again, when in Amsterdam.
