Delicious food at a great price, with very friendly service

We had dinner here last Saturday evening with the three of us. We were lucky to get the last free table :) Very extensive menu, which led to some decision stress. The result was the Rijsttafel Royal; this way we could sample various dishes, and for the side dish you can choose entirely yourself from a few options such as yellow rice, fried rice, pad thai, etc. Personally, we initially found it bizarre that we were served fruit, but this turned out to be the ideal solution if you can't handle spicy food well, as it softened the blow. Learned something new again. In terms of portion sizes, we had more than enough. The flavors were amazing! Smooth and friendly service. Beautiful surroundings and a quiet place to enjoy a nice meal and drinks. Definitely recommended!

We had a delicious meal with the six of us, sitting cozily at a large round table. My sister-in-law had already arranged everything, even the menu (various dishes, something for everyone and plenty of food). It had been her birthday and she treated us 👌💖 It was delicious from the starters to the dessert 🫶👌👍🤩 Top-notch, and I find it nice that you can look at each other at a round table 🤩👍

Service and location very good. Food was a bit disappointing. The satay skewer is unfortunately made of lamb....... The price of the food is very reasonable.

Nice location and friendly staff. However, the authentic Indonesian flavor is absent in a number of dishes. Boiled chicken satay like at a Chinese restaurant with peanut sauce from a packet. Also, the green beans from a can or jar. A few dishes were okay, such as the fried rice and noodles, and the Rendang was also okay. The price is okay. Where else can you eat for €70 for two for the most extensive rijsttafel? But personally, I would rather pay a little more for authentic flavors.

The atmosphere was calm and smooth. The acoustics are great so people at each table could easily conduct their conversations without disturbing those at other tables. Awesome. Perfect. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was great and the scenery outside perfect for a walk after dinner. Prices were not too bad. Highly recommended! Plan for at least 30-60 minutes walking outside to make the most of visiting thos beautiful place.

Very negative. Dr. Chen was just as rude as before. We have had better and more pleasant meals on other occasions without him. He could learn a lot from his staff regarding this. People won't come back because of this, and neither will we when he is there.

Too bad, the nice part of the terrace under the grapevines was closed off. We couldn't sit there due to a staff shortage. Meanwhile, it's a top-notch place; everything turned out fine, good food, friendly owner.

From the restaurant, you have a beautiful view of the Kralingse Plas. There were 7 of us, and we ordered one of the rijsttafels. We were all very satisfied with the food and the friendly welcome. Highly recommended if you also enjoy Indonesian cuisine.

Takeaway food. Chicken satay supposedly 8 skewers, but with very little chicken per skewer and even less satay sauce. The noodles were bland, and the leek in the stir-fried chicken with vegetables was inedible. Very small portions too. It's a shame you have to pay 50 euros for this.

We wanted to grab a quick cup of coffee around 4:30. It was blowing hard outside and my girlfriend uses a walker. So it takes a while to get inside. The host, whom I had already found particularly unfriendly earlier, walked towards us. Lunch was already over, so it was finished; not open for us. What a welcome. I really think it's an inhospitable place. The food is mediocre too, by the way. I won't be coming back; everything is too much.

We ordered a rijsttafel. You do get small portions of everything. The bowls of nasi and bami could have been bigger. The food was good.

Last weekend, we came here with a group of 10. The food was delicious, and the staff were also particularly friendly and helpful, despite the group size. We can definitely recommend this place.

We sat on the terrace. We wanted to have a drink and some tasty snacks. The waitstaff walked past frequently but didn't make eye contact, causing us to wait a very long time for our order to be taken. When we were finally able to place our order, the waitstaff walked away without taking our snack orders. He said he was going to pass on the drinks first, and only then could we order the snacks. At this point, we were already done with it. Another employee sighed deeply, visibly irritated, when another customer asked if they could sit on the terrace for a moment. After all, it was already almost 4:30, and the terrace closes at 5:00 PM. Next time, I’d rather stand in line at the neighbors'.

If you want to eat Indonesian food, this is the place to be, and definitely order the rijsttafel. We had the rijsttafel royal.

Beautiful location by the Kralingse Plas. I always feel very welcome at the Minang Kabau; the people are very nice. The food is also tasty and not too expensive.

Delicious food with an amazing view..

Delicious food, excellent service, and good value for money. The only thing I missed this time was the shrimp pieces in the nasi goreng, which would have been the refined flavor you always have.

A prime location with a stunning view, but the food was a huge disappointment. Although the menu promises dishes that bring the flavors of East Java to Rotterdam, it all tasted a bit too "Dutch" for us and was very bland. The menu is also confusing: calling a dish "Pangsit Udang" when the description (and what you get) is "shrimp tempura" is completely off the mark; that's not "pangsit." The lontong was runny around the edges, the peanut sauce tasted like it came from a jar, and the nasi kuning lacked the creamy coconut flavor. The daging semur was fine. A beautiful place, but we won't be returning for (authentic) Indonesian cuisine.

The food was very disappointing. Starting with lemper: a lot of rice with dry chicken in it. No flavors like lemongrass, cumin, or coriander, etc. So we left all that alone. Rendang was way too salty, and the spekkoek looked like it had been sliced ​​with a cheese slicer. It's definitely not authentic Indonesian food anymore.

I'm familiar with Indonesian cuisine from my roots. Yes, it's Indonesian, prepared from Chinese cuisine. But that doesn't mean it's not delicious. Some dishes are better than others, but overall, it tastes good. We ordered the largest menu for two. (We usually do this at a similar restaurant.) To sample as much as possible, and with this amount of food, I found the price very reasonable. I give the food a 3.5.

The food was also excellent, no "Chinese" portions. The menus were also fine. One minor quibble: the seafood mix included fish balls. That's not really appropriate, and the overpowering curry flavor doesn't really suit Indonesian cuisine. But otherwise, it was very good.

We've been coming here for years and always have delicious food and friendly staff, especially if you sit upstairs by the window, you have a fantastic view over the lake and you can see the Rotterdam skyline.

Beautiful location and very nice inside. Unfortunately, we had to wait a very long time for our food, and there was a crying baby in the restaurant. I ordered the stir-fried vegetables with nasi goreng, which was delicious. My friends ordered a rather pricey rijsttafel (rice table), which unfortunately wasn't worth the price (in our opinion).

On November 22, 2025, we had planned a cozy kumpulan (social gathering) with our cousins ​​in Minang Kabauw, where we've been happily visiting for years. Unfortunately, this last time was a huge disappointment. Upon arrival, two employees were busily discussing something at the entrance, presumably a reservation issue, which we understand. After 5 minutes, one of the employees approached us and coolly asked if we had made a reservation. After searching the list for a bit, our name finally appeared, and we were escorted to our table. The cousins ​​joined us, and unfortunately, one of them was ill, so she couldn't join us for dinner. Since there were now 8 of us instead of 9, and we're not big eaters, we decided to order 6 rice tables. If you run out of food, you can always order more, as you would at most restaurants. This is not allowed. You MUST order either a rijsttafel (rice table) for 8 people or a few extra dishes to reach the amount the restaurant had anticipated. We ordered a few extras, and the staff member said they were sufficient. The food served was indeed very meager and not the "Indonesian food" we, as Indonesian people, are used to and have been served for years. It's comparable to a Chinese weekly menu, but half the price you'd get at your local Chinese restaurant. As soon as the small bowls containing the dishes were empty, they were cleared away and the dessert menu arrived. We all ordered dessert and/or coffee, and we hadn't even finished them yet. The staff member nervously approached our table, asking if we wanted anything else, or he could still use our table. We felt like we were being ignored, and when we left the building, there were no one waiting for a table. To conclude a long story: Service: impersonal and rushed. Food: Definitely not Indonesian flavor. Price: Very high for the quality and quantity. Parking: €2.65 per hour (Rotterdam municipality) And finally, what the owner wrote in a previous review is absolutely unacceptable: "You too can't argue with this: eating out is expensive these days, but on the other hand, many people are earning more money now." We went in looking forward to a delicious Indonesian meal, but left disappointed. For the price you pay here, the portions were noticeably small. For example: a small bowl of satay sauce costs €5.50, which felt meager considering the amount. Changes proved virtually impossible. I asked for non-spicy beans; they "didn't exist," and no alternative was offered. The Rijsttafel (rice table) wasn't for one person either; we were referred to a two-person option—we were told this generated more revenue for them. So I ordered a Rijsttafel Royale (for one person); the portions were also very small in relation to the price. The other dishes at the table gave the same impression: high prices, little food. The service seemed unfriendly, and questions seemed to be answered with annoyance; questions about dishes had to be discussed among themselves. This doesn't help build trust. What makes this even more unfortunate: I used to eat here more often, and there were larger dishes on the table. Taking leftovers home wasn't a problem back then. Not now—I had to eat something at home. Summary: high prices, small portions, and little flexibility. Based on this evening, we won't be back and don't recommend the restaurant.

Authentic Indonesian food, so the rijsttafel. Prices are very reasonable. I've had better rijsttafels in the Netherlands, for example, in Breda or The Hague. I'd prefer the flavors to be a bit more pronounced. It's a beautiful and pleasant setting, though.

Enjoyed a delicious meal in the conservatory with a view over the lake

We arrived at 6:00 PM for a dessert drink, but we weren't allowed to sit down because you're required to order a meal for everyone. I've long since learned that the customer isn't king, but a family, with a pregnant wife traveling all the way from another city for dessert. It's perfectly acceptable to deviate from your unusual policy. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I give it a big thumbs-up, and I won't recommend it for hospitality.

We had a wonderful meal with a beautiful view of Kralingen Lake with the Rotterdam skyline behind it. It's a lovely spot for a cozy meal for two. We also had a delicious rijsttafel (rice table).

The setting was beautiful, but the food and service were disappointing: the chicken rice had too much Chinese flavor, the Daging Smoor was missing from the Nasi Ramses, and we were poorly served when we requested gluten-free options. The food was given a stern look, unhelpful advice, and we were essentially advised to eat elsewhere. My partner received gluten-containing ketjap and satay sauce with his meal, even though we had specifically requested gluten-free options. A disappointing experience, despite the beautiful view of Kralingse Plas.

Enjoyed a delicious rijsttafel (rice table) with mixed satay and emping with satay sauce as a starter. A large beer is truly a large one. Definitely worth repeating.

It doesn't look like the typical nasi rames that you can order at a Hague store, for example. Not a real Indian restaurant, which I agree with Mr Mak because it is a Chinese taste experience here

We thought we would eat in a real Indonesian restaurant. But it's just Chinese and doesn't taste like Indian spices at all!! Too bad it was really disappointing. Nothing is based on Indonesia, but it is Chinese. The staff are also Chinese so why do they call this an Indonesian restaurant? Staff was very friendly, but we won't be back. The windows were very dirty and it really didn't feel fresh.

Minangkabau people don't eat pork. Please don't be disrespectful by taking over the restaurant from previous owners and keeping the name (and fame they built up) but adding pork to the menu. I'm quite surprised and shocked the new owner(s) made this decision year ago. Why di ALL rice tables (minus the vegetarian ones of course) have pork in them?! Knowing there are so many the great Indonesian vegetarian dishes it's sad to see only a few made it to the menu. That said it's surprising to see there are two different veggie-rice tables on the a la carte and rice tables menus. I find the the "Putri Solo" rice table has just too many non-Indonesian dishes.. This place clearly serves Chinese-Indian and not true Indonesian cuisine. The prices being up there a bit imho together with a (beautiful building but with) high ceiling inside omitting that cosy atmosphere are reasons for me to steer clear from here when in search of dining out for an Indonesian treat. As a tip might I suggest maybe altering your information accordingly as to prevent more people visiting and leaving lesser reviews due to believing to have a proper Indonesian meal at your establishment. (Be proud of your own food and heritage!)

Met het eindejaarsetentje van het werk gekozen voor een rijsttafel bij Minang Kabau. Past heel goed bij een gezelschap met verschillende wensen, voor iedereen meer dan genoeg keus. De ligging is prachtig met zicht op de Kralingse Plas met lichtjes in het donker. Vriendelijke bediening.

Sorry but it is offensive use the name of Minang Kabau restaurant but serve babi/ varken, because we as Minang doesn't eat non halal, and the menu list is chinese food not Padang at all. Please mind about this name.

Had dinner here with the family on a Friday evening. We sat in one room together, but at two long tables. That was a little less because you still want to sit at the table together. But the food was delicious. There was still a lot left over so we were allowed to take it home.

Prachtig zonnig dus weer eens naar Minang Kabau aan de Kralingse Plas .Schitterende plek, Sumatra gebouw . Eerst buiten wijntje om in de sfeer te komen, daarna rijsttafel MK in de serre. Vriendelijke voldoende bediening .Potje indo thee want bier hoort er niet bij voor de smaak. Rendang en Smoor goed ,uitgebreide rijsttafel , sajoer boontjes helaas bevroren , rest conform menu en goed van smaak . Afsluiting met Cendol (7.5) Komen uit Brabant maar het blijft een belevenis.

24/8 voor het eerst geweest om de 80e verjaardag te vieren van mijn moeder. Wat een geweldige beleving. We waren met 10 personen. 2 verschillende rijsttafels genomen. Wauw wat een eten, zoveel en zo lekker!!! Nagerechten waren ook top !!! En de bediening....GEWELDIG. Zo grappig en gezellig. Als laatste de rekening : voor al het eten en drinken zeer goed te betalen. Voor ons een dikke 10. Wij zaten in de serre. Klein en intiem. Tot snel want het blijft zeker niet bij deze ene keer !!

We have been coming here for over 20 years and in the last 2 years we have seen that Indonesian flavors have been replaced by Chinese flavors. The satay is no longer roasted, the babi ketjap is a sugar sauce, the tempeh comes from the factory and is tasteless. Too bad, we won't eat here again.

Schitterende locatie aan de Kralingse Plas in het Kralingse bos. Gedineerd in een wat kleinere sfeervolle zaal (serre) die volledig bezet was maar desondanks heerlijk rustig was. Gekozen voor de rijsttafel die netjes uitgeserveerd werd. Tot de laatste rijstkorrel opgegeten, had naar onze smaak meer vlees mogen bevatten! Na de rijsttafel een ijskoffie en thee besteld. De ijskoffie werd dusdanig veel later dan de thee geserveerd dat de thee inmiddels afgekoeld was, dat was jammer. De smaak van de ijskoffie viel tegen. Wil je rustig en verzorgd eten op een prachtige locatie? Minang Kabau!
