The perfect place to eat! We stumbled upon this restaurant by accident, we stopped to read the menu on an evening walk and the most lovely woman came out to greet us. Nice we were inside things just kept getting better. The atmosphere was wonderful, and so inviting, it was incredibly warm to stay nice and toasty in the winter and most importantly, the food was divine! In fact, it was so good that we came back to eat here again on our one night stop over on the way back to our home country as well. You must eat here! The meals are big in size, the staff are so welcoming, and being a fussy eater (vegetarian) there were so many options for both myself and my partner who is not vegetarian. We would come back a third time.

Absolutely fantastic experience. The food was outstanding, with perfectly balanced spices and incredible depth of flavour in every dish. The service was impeccable — attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming — and the atmosphere was warm and inviting, making the whole meal even more enjoyable. I ordered roti chicken and bakabanana with peanut sauce and a spicy chicken sandwich. Damn, never again. I just threw it all up. And I have a terrible stomach ache. The bakabanana was so disgusting, like it had just been reheated from the day before! There was also no sambal or anything with it. Simply outrageous! €30 for food poisoning!!!

My wife and I stopped by in the middle of the afternoon while walking around in Amsterdam. This place had great service - our server was very attentive and helpful. She was able to confirm for us which dishes were gluten-free for my wife. The food was great. I had the chicken biryani and vegetable samosas, both of which were full of aromatic flavors and spices. I would definitely recommend stopping by!

The food here is excellent — no complaints about the taste or quality. However, the customer service is extremely poor. The owner is rude and unprofessional, and the restaurant refuses to provide a VAT receipt, which is unacceptable. Be careful if you dine here — great food, but the worst service experience.

Nice little restaurant but the food is a bit tasteless. My lamb tikka masala gravy was very sweet. The chicken curry was also sweet. Weird. The mango lassi was small and very liquid. Not your usual Indian taste.

I was there with a large group, I could order a full vegan menu (4 courses), it was excellent. Very friendly service.

The place felt cold and unwelcoming from the moment we walked in. The toilets also had a strange smell and are kind of dirty. We asked for just some bread as a starter, but the waiter insisted on bringing us “something special” – which turned out to be a €14 appetizer platter we didn’t really want. The food came very quickly, but unfortunately everything tasted overly sweet and quite similar. For two people, we ended up paying over €60, which felt way too expensive for the quality. Overall, a disappointing experience. (I had better food and service in a bakery then in your restaurant)

I went to Amsterdam and looking for Indian food and found this Shiva restaurant nearby. Me and my wife visited and ordered Reshmi Kebab, Chicken Tikka Masala, Naan & Rice. Food was so delicious.

My wife and I came across this place by chance. What a great surprise! High class Indian food with perfect masala balance. The staff was exceptionally helpful, they even prepared a dish that was not on the menu. If you're in Amsterdam, check this place out.

Very delicious Indian food in a small but cozy atmosphere. We received super friendly service, even though we later realized we were there outside of normal opening hours! The super friendly waitress, who also cooked for us, didn't mention this at all. The only negative thing is the coffee shop next door – you could smell it at times.

Shiva is our absolute favorite Indian restaurant in Amsterdam, and as lovers of Indian cuisine and frequent travelers, we have been to several top end ones. The sauces at Shiva are beautifully balanced - and that's the secret, ingredients super fresh, fantastic fluffy rice and Naan, and the Tandoori meats are authentically charcoal roasted to perfection. Simply outstanding by any standards. Thank you Basu!

We recently dined at this restaurant and overall, it was a tasty experience. We ordered the chicken sag and chicken tikka masala, and while the masala was different from your typical Indian style, we actually enjoyed it. The flavors were unique and added a nice twist to the meal. However, the service was a bit overwhelming. The girl who served us was very attentive, to the point where it felt like she was joining us for dinner. It made it hard for us to have a conversation or enjoy our meal in peace. At one point, my partner picked up the bottle of Prosecco to take a picture to send to his mom, and she immediately came over, grabbed it from him, and kept refilling our drinks without asking. Despite the excellent food, this level of service made the experience a bit uncomfortable. If not for that, we would have definitely considered coming back.

This restaurant serves the best food in all of Amsterdam, and the owners are some of the warmest and kindest people you’ll meet. Uncle went out of his way to prepare a special off-menu dish for us, which we absolutely loved. The service is impeccable, and their gulab jamun is simply to die for. Highly recommended!

A very delicious Indian restaurant in Amsterdam, close to Dam. I tried their butter chicken, it was amazing, and the service was great, very good.

We chose the restaurant because of Neo Taste and we were told on site that we had to choose 2 starters (prices around €7.50-10) - unfortunately that's not the purpose of the app. We would then get the main dishes for 2 for 1. Too bad. We then didn't use the app and ate a la carte on site. If I had known this beforehand, I would have chosen a different restaurant. The food was okay but not the best either. I've eaten much better. But the staff was very friendly.

Absolutamente patético servicio por parte de la dueña que siempre está recibiendo órdenes. Primero limpió los baños sin usar guantes y luego sin lavarse las manos sirvió mi comida. Tenía una actitud que no se puede describir. No servía agua ni me preguntaba si quería beber algo. Ella corría a la puerta cada vez que veía a los clientes leyendo el menú publicado afuera diciendo “Hola, bienvenido a Shiva”, pero nadie venía. Creo que los lugareños lo saben, así que solo los turistas caerían en ello. Al final ella trajo el cajero automático de pago, y después de que el pago pasó, simplemente se dio la vuelta y se fue al mostrador. La comida parecía estar bien, pero la idea de ser servida por la dueña sin lavarse las manos después de la limpieza del inodoro me molestó. Los baños están justo a la vista de todas las mesas. Escribo esta opinión justo después de mi experiencia de hoy 01 marzo 2025 . En general 3 / 10 , mal servicio, comida antihigiénica y promedio. NO VAYAS A SHIVA AMSTERDAM, hay tantos otros restaurantes indios.

Everything was okay at best and then the man, whoever he was tried to over charge us of more then €15, when I then grabbed the menu you to show him he has changed the prices completely he proceeded to get angry with me and tell me to get out, we paid €49.50 which was actually even more then what it should’ve been anyway, disgusting behaviour to a customer

Good Indian experience in our old street ! A quick bite just before our theater show. A good paperdam, with tasty dips. Sheek kabab was soft and tasty. The Butter chicken soft of taste and the lamb tikka was delicious. The Saag Paneer was good, but not the best I had ! The restaurant was nicely decorated in Christmas atmosphere and a very friendly staff, we recommend 👌

I had the butter chicken and it was very good. The chicken itself could’ve been slightly softer, however the sauce was the best butter chicken i’ve ever had, hands down. Overall an excellent dish. We also had some Naan, which was very good and soft. Definitely recommend the place

Hands down, the BEST curry I've ever had!

Buena comida, buen servicio... Comimos (más de dos visitas, una noche aparte) tikka de cordero, pollo biriyani, cordero tikka masala y cordero korma. Todo fue brillante, correctamente pero no demasiado sazonado y atractivamente bien chapado. Además, me las arreglé para dejar mi sombrero allí. Como estábamos volando a casa antes de su hora normal de apertura, los propietarios vinieron temprano al día siguiente para devolvérmelo.

Fantastic food, great service… We ate (over two visits, one night apart) lamb tikka, chicken biriyani, lamb tikka masala and lamb korma. It was all brilliant, properly but not overly seasoned and appealingly well plated. Also, I managed to leave my hat there. As we were flying home before their normal opening time, the owners came in early the following day to give it back to me.

Today I had dinner at this delicious restaurant with my partner. Everything was top notch, I ordered thali (selection of small dishes/ curries with roti/ naan). From reception to farewell we enjoyed ourselves and the same was evident from other guests. The service was very attentive, hospitable, friendly and caring. I would go to this restaurant several times because it exceeded our expectations. If you or your family come to Amsterdam and are looking for an Indian restaurant, this is a must-go. The staff is friendly and welcomes you immediately upon entering. Shiva is a warm and cozy restaurant, with delicious authentic Indian food. Please note that the staff mainly speaks English, but that is of course no problem.

Food was really delicious, we had Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken with Garlic Naan. Food came really quickly and was good to eat.
