Restaurant 't Arsenaal in Wijk 1 Binnenstad

We chose Het Arsenaal in Deventer because of its good reputation and the expectation that we could offer our guests a special evening. Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be quite disappointing. Due to the bad weather, the courtyard was closed. I had called in advance to ask for an alternative, and we were promised a table by the window overlooking the courtyard. Upon arrival, we were greeted kindly and escorted to our table. It was indeed located by the courtyard, but also directly next to the entrance to the kitchen and the waste disposal area. As a result, the staff constantly walked past with plates, cutlery, and waste, which caused a lot of disruption. It then took quite a long time before someone came to ask if we wanted something to drink. The food was also disappointing. The flavors were out of balance; the amuse-bouche lacked the promised crispy texture and seemed reheated rather than freshly prepared. My red snapper was completely overpowered by the fennel, making the fish barely tasteable. During dinner, no one came to inquire if everything was to our liking. It was only when the plates were being cleared that I was able to provide my comments as constructive feedback. Unfortunately, nothing further was done about it. The cappuccino was also a disappointment. It was weak and tasted mostly like water. Instead of offering a new cappuccino, the waiter suggested adding “just an extra shot of coffee.” When I explained that a cappuccino is different from a café latte, the reaction was one of surprise. To finish, we chose the cheese platter. When we asked for an explanation of the different cheeses, we were told that we could read this ourselves on the accompanying card. That felt neither welcoming nor personal. Given the prices, which are clearly higher than at many other restaurants, one should expect a high level of quality, service, and hospitality. It was precisely on these points that Het Arsenaal fell short for us. Even the toilets gave an outdated and poorly maintained impression. This review is not intended to be a sarcastic criticism, but rather genuine feedback. Het Arsenaal has built up a fine reputation; it would be a shame if that were lost due to insufficient attention to the guest experience and feedback. Despite this, we had a nice evening thanks to our guests, but certainly not thanks to the restaurant. For us, this was unfortunately the first and last time.

Amazing surprise menu. Fine, almost natural chef. Lovely service. Everything perfectly arranged. Dining outside in the atmospheric alley between impressive facades adds a lot to the atmosphere.

What an incredibly lovely place this is! We stopped by during Deventer Op Stelten and opted for the three-course surprise dinner. Because I have diabetes, I asked in advance if a sugar-free dessert was possible. Honestly? I would have settled for a simple cheese board or some fruit. But wow, the kitchen really went all out! I received a beautiful, substantial dessert, and even the friandises with the coffee were sugar-free. So incredibly sweet and thoughtful. The rest of the food was fantastic too, by the way: refined flavors and truly generous portions. The atmosphere is super cozy. Okay, the restrooms are a bit small and take some searching, but that shouldn't spoil the fun. Unfortunately, we don't live nearby, but we will definitely be back here again!

What a wonderful experience at this restaurant in Deventer. Every dish was a work of art to look at, and the flavors were truly refined. We eat here once a month with a group; the service is always excellent, the food delicious, and always well-coordinated. That is why we have been coming back for years!

We had a very nice evening at Restaurant 't Arsenaal in Deventer. The restaurant is beautifully situated, right beneath the Lebuïnus Tower, and the lovely open kitchen immediately catches the eye. Unfortunately, the amuse-bouche to start with was a bit simple and not particularly flavorful. Fortunately, the courses that followed were very tasty: first the salmon, then the plaice, and finally the pork belly. The main course really stood out for us; the Irish merlan steak was incredibly fine in flavor. The dessert was also delicious. The service is very friendly and truly attentive to the guests. They are up for a laugh, are absolutely not too reluctant to proactively top up your wine, and one of the staff members asked on his own initiative if he should take a photo of us. All very pleasant. What we also really liked is that they work with an all-in price where the amuse-bouche, table water, wines, and coffee afterwards are already included. So, no surprises on the bill afterwards. Also good to know: they accept VVV gift cards here. We enjoyed it!

The staff is pleasant. The food is delicious, I can't say anything surprised me. It was more basic, but everything was tasty. We had the four-course menu with seafood and fish. The fish was cooked perfectly, and there were also raw fish and seafood options. Although I thought the fish was a little oversalted, that's more a matter of taste. The restaurant atmosphere is pleasant and calm. On the downside, I noticed some artificial flowers in pots. I think it wouldn't be a problem to replace them with real ones; it's not expensive and would improve the atmosphere. Also, the restrooms are small and there are no coat hooks. I think they could be installed.

We had a wonderful meal with a group of 10. The products are beautiful and the atmosphere is excellent overall. It's a lovely, characterful building on Nieuwmarkt. Beautiful surroundings! It's also great to park on the other side of the IJssel River and take the ferry across. It feels magical in the evenings 😊

The five-course menu was a combination of meat and some greasy fried lobster croquettes. That was a shame, as there are also some good vegetarian dishes on the menu. The wine selection was good.

A ridiculous price tag at the book market! Two sandwiches with two croquettes, all without any toppings. High prices. Fortunately, the taste was good. So it wasn't the chef's fault.

I had a wonderful evening here with my parents. We received a friendly welcome and were seated in a comfortable yet warmly decorated restaurant. I opted for the four-course surprise menu. All the dishes were delicious, and the explanations were excellent. The service was friendly and, above all, attentive. In my opinion, the price/quality ratio is good. As I said: all in all, we had a lovely evening.

Unfortunately, we couldn't eat here. Despite several tables outside without reserved signs, the man at the entrance, without checking, told us they would be completely full later. Given that we arrived around 8:00 PM and the terrace was half empty, I doubt this was actually the case. We continued on without success.

Met groep vrienden wezen eten in binnentuin tegen de Lebinius kerk. Geweldige plek, super leuke bediening en het eten fantastisch. Echt een aanrader!

Op een mooie zonovergoten avond ruim te vroeg voor de reservering op het terras genoten van een lekker glas witte wijn en een leuke amuse. In overleg met de bediening kon het chef menu buiten worden geserveerd. Het was mogelijk bij elke gang een passende wijn geserveerd te krijgen (ook halve glazen behoorden tot de mogelijkheid), maar we besloten wijn per glas te bestellen. Bij de gangen werd op verzoek aangegeven welke wijn er het beste bij het gerecht zou passen. Leuke spannende gerechten; vlotte vriendelijke bediening.

Vi var her hele familien på en bursdagsmiddag og valgte en overraskelses meny med vinpakke. Veldig bra alle rettene. Fantastisk hyggelig betjening. Vi kommer gjerne tilbake.

What a great experience to dine at 't Arsenaal! We had chosen a surprise menu of four courses with the proviso that this had to be prepared gluten-free for one person. And we were surprised! The dishes tasted delicious, with great combinations of flavors, structures and colors. The plates were also beautifully presented and were, if desired, served with a matching wine. The waitress was polite and had a lot of knowledge about the food and the wines.

Wonderful meal in a beautiful setting. Friendly and informative service. Only complaint is as a solo diner if took 2.5 hours for them to serve the 3 course chefs menu. Additionally they charged for water.

Was er wel vroeg maar werd vriendelijk ontvangen. Mijn beoordelingen zijn fair maar kritisch. Ik heb bij 't Arsenaal niets maar dan ook niets negetiefs kunnen vinden, sterker nog het was voortreffelijk! De ambiance het pand, de bediening het eten de wijn etc. Alles klopt tot in de kleinste details. En de prijs: netjes immers "alle waar naar zijn geld". Ik vraag mij af waarom 't Arsenaal hier niet op een dikke eerste plaats staat, voor mij wel. Beste mensen ga hier dineren, laat dergelijke mooie restaurants niet in de steek, verwen jezelf eens in 2025. Laat de eigenaar goed passen op de bediening en de dame achter het fornuis is onmisbaar Chapeau voor jullie team.

Door m’n beugel 1,5 jaar niet “echt” uit eten geweest. (Wel eens hapje eten her en der maar niet avondje uit.) Daarom ontzettend verheugd op Het Arsenaal! En de verwachting werd waar gemaakt: een gezellige en zeer smaakvolle avond uit, met uitstekende bediening. Akoestiek kan iets beter vooral als andere groepjes het steeds gezelliger krijgen ;) We verheugen ons alweer op de volgende speciale gelegenheid!

Dit was het vijfde restaurant wat we bezochten tijdens de wijn-spijs tour door Deventer. Hier kregen we ook een kabeljauw gerechtje. Glaasje wijn ook lekker. Kabeljauw was lekker maar jammer wellicht niet goed afgestemd met ander restaurant die ceviche van kabeljauw serveerde. Mooi wit linnen op tafel.

Too expensive for what you get. Substandard 4-course menu. No pronounced flavors, too much salt, and not surprising. It is well known in Deventer, hence our visit. But not worth repeating.

Host/hostess were only interested in a table for 6 people. the other guests were not interesting!!! We went for a 4 course menu with no cheese and no fish!!! Unfortunately, that was very difficult to implement, but 3 courses were served with, yes, fish or cheese!!!! The wine arrangement was disappointing. We won't be back!!!

What an amazing place! A restaurant at a very historical area behind the Lebuinus church. A beautiful view and very nice area. Even better is the service and menu. The dinner is served with a wonderful taste of fresh food and mixes flavors. Do ask for the chefs menu for an even special treatment. Service is excellent and very friendly. So we will return to this wonderful restaurant with lovely people.

Delicious food and very customer friendly and all this for a very reasonable price. We were recently here with a group. Some arrived later and some had to leave on time. This was responded to very well and in the end everyone had a delicious meal.

Food was super delicious. The atmosphere is a bit stiff. The service was good, although a few mistakes were made. For example, a whole plate of residue was found in a glass of port, they mixed up a few orders with dietary requirements and not everything was properly understood. Could also be due to the novelty of the staff that evening. Furthermore, everyone is friendly and hospitable.

Altijd lastig om een goed restaurant te vinden in een stad waar je nog nooit geweest ben. Maar echt een ontzettende aanrader voor iedereen die van lekker eten houdt. Lekkere gerechten met verse producten, erg aardig en vriendelijk personeel die veel verstand hebben van de wijnen i.c.m. het gerecht. Als wij ooit weer in de buurt zijn, zullen wij zeker terug gaan.

Had dinner at the arsenal with my husband for my birthday. The food was tasty and the service friendly. But the room we were in (the room where the bar was located) really felt less atmospheric and cozy than the larger dining room. We both thought this was a shame. If this had been reported in advance, we would probably have made a different choice.

Had a really wonderful evening, from reception to departure extremely polite staff who set the bar high in terms of service with their friendliness and warmth. The atmosphere in the restaurant is living room-like and warm, yet chic. The kitchen is half open, so you get to see something from behind the scenes and the view outside is also beautiful. We had a menu that really had a great price and was of excellent quality, beautifully executed and with very good ingredients.

The food was very bland and uninspired and it took a very long time. Service was stiff and the inside of the restaurant doesn't look great, especially considering the price. The layout of the plates was also disappointing. It looked like it was made without love... We also had an Andrew Tate-like guest who was FaceTime with his child and then pitched a kind of AI only fans revenue model to his friends... he sat on the talking chair all evening and no one stopped him. All in all, not recommended, even though the reviews were so good. Ate twice and was disappointed twice.

Heerlijk eten, mooi opgemaakt en hoog op smaak. Laat je gerust verassen met een 3, 4 of 5 gangenmenu. Wij hadden 4 gangen all-in met heerlijke bijpassende wijnen. De sfeer en bediening was top. Echt een aanrader in het mooie Deventer.

Sehr schönes Restaurant in der Altstadt von Deventer - wir hatten ein Vierhängeüberraschungsmenü mit guter Weinbegleitung und waren sehr zufrieden. Der Chef war sehr zuvorkommend und hilfsbereit.

Wat een fantastische historische en sfeervolle plek, uitstekende gastvrouw en heer. De kaart is klein maar fijn! Heerlijk gegeten met goede wijnen erbij! De gemarineerde makreel als voorgerecht was werkelijk subliem en zeer verrassend!

Fijne aparte zaal en persoonlijke benadering. Personen met een wens mbt het eten waren met naam bij de gastvrouw bekend. Flexibiliteit mbt kaart en tijdstippen aanvang en einde is groot. Heel fijn. Vanwege de groepsgrootte werd uit een geselecteerd menu gekozen. Tip zou zijn om het aangeboden menu in de eerste versie al te voorzien van keuzes uit vlees vis en vegetarisch. Tegenwoordig is er bijna altijd wel iemand echt blij te maken met een vegetarische optie. Verder alles goed en een fijne ervaring. Lekker eten, goed bereid. Mooie locatie, zaal en fijne service.

Wunderbarer Innenhof mitten in Deventer im Hauptschiff einer Kirche, die als Folge der Säkularisation abgebrannt ist. Hervorragende, originelle Küche mit frischen Zutaten und sehr gut zu den Gerichten passender Weinbegleitung! Sowohl die Eigentümer als auch das junge Küchenpersonal geben alles, damit sich der Gast verwöhnt und wohl fühlt!

Een en al sensatie en streling voor het oog! Top bediening!
