Service is very slow and poor. They kept us waiting so long to bring something that I didn’t order

We had coffee here before and after visiting the museum, and then had lunch. Beautiful location, friendly service, and a delicious lunch. Vegan options are also on the menu. We had the Beyond burger with fries. (Tip: they also serve vegan mayo.)

Very inefficient service. Almost 30 min wait for the coffee to go. And it was not even very crowded.

The museum is great, but the restaurant is mediocre. The food is fine, but you have to wait at least 15 minutes before you can enter.

We were seated in a drafty side room which looked like an after thought as the main dining room was busy. The staff was friendly and tried to help but was badly trained and informed. We had to collect our own menus, the server didnt clear without us asking, we had to wait to pay etc. They have many options for veggies and vegans but no clue about allergens. Many sandwiches listed as gluten free were listed on the allergen menu as containing gluten. The server said that she "thought" the mayonnaise wasn't gluten free, she "thought" the cake listed gluten free wasn't safe. I decided not to order 🤣

The pastries were delicious, and the beautiful location made it even better. Definitely worth stopping by.

We almost skipped this place because of the mixed reviews, but hunger convinced us to give it a try, and I’m so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious, made with great quality ingredients, and very reasonably priced. On top of that, the setting itself is beautiful. Honestly, it’s probably the best food I’ve ever had in a museum

Terrible, the bitterballs were impossible to eat, everything was half full, typical Hague style, no honey with the tea, and no biscuits to be found with the tea. 4 minutes late, so we couldn't order lunch. All these people trying to act posh. And we had to wait a full half hour for eight so-called beef bitterballs, which were far-fetched.

The three of us got a seat outside right away, and it's a really nice place to sit! We wanted a piece of cake, which wasn't anything special for the price, but was still delicious. I think it's better suited for larger meals. All in all, a good way to end a visit to the museum, especially since it benefits from the beautiful outdoor area.

The perfect combination with a visit to the great museum. Especially the terrace is a delight and blends beautifully with the classic country house with its beautiful interior. You quickly feel like you are in another world here

Mooie plek om te verblijven na het museum bezoek, helaas een slechte ervaring met onze "ober". Hij kwam met de drankjes en hield het dienblad zo schuin dat er een kop koffie en flesje cola om en af vielen. Een deel vd koffie kwam over het schort van de ober en over mijn blouse, dus vroegen we geïnteresseerd of hij zich bezeerd had. Dit was gelukkig niet het geval. Zonder verder iets te vragen aan ons/mij over het voorval liep hij weg om een doekje en de bestelling opnieuw te halen, dachten wij. Niets was minder waar, hij kwam terug en zette de bestelling dit keer goed op tafel, zei niets over het voorval en vertrok weer. Geen doekje, (wat toch wel het mindste is) geen excuses of compensatie. Op het toilet de vlekken enigsinds uit mijn blouse gespoeld en met een natte blouse de bestelde lunch gegeten, de jongen niet meer gezien. Wij hebben voor vier personen €79.20 voor een vrij eenvoudige lunch afgerekend. Wanneer een bedrijf zich in deze categorie voordoet verwacht ik bij een dergelijke voorval ( iets dat altijd gebeuren kan) een professionele aanpak en afhandeling, laat maar zeggen...klantvriendelijk.

Good food, good staff and beautiful surroundings

I have never been to a museum restaurant/ cafe that was actually good and affordable, till now! The food, hot drinks, and cakes were all tasty. And the staff are all so lovely and welcoming.

The restaurant is located in a beautiful building. The service was friendly and the food was quite good. If I hadn't seen one of the kitchen staff neglecting to wash their hands after going to the toilet I would have felt completely fine about this.

Nice terrace, but even though it was not very busy and there were 6 staff, we were not helped. It seemed as if the staff were deliberately looking past us. I've worked a lot in the hospitality industry, so maybe it irritates me more than other people. Maybe do a catering training sometime.

Even on a busy afternoon, the service is quick and friendly. The plates are beautifully presented and richly filled. The only downside: the acoustics are not ideal

The coffee in the Voorlinden café is a real treat. Creamy and beautifully decorated with a leaf motif. The friendly service and the sunny terrace with a view of nature complete the picture.

Best ok eetcafe vlak bij museum Voorlinden. Gelegen in een fraai park. Bij mooi weer terras mogelijk. Entree beetje rommelig. Zitplaatsen worden aangewezen. Op zich ok. Wij mochten in eerste instantie niet buiten zitten, terwijl stellen vlak na ons wel mochten. Apart. Vlak bij tocht deur neergezet. Na aandringen kamer verder op toch mogelijk. Prijzen zijn ok. Normaal tegenwoordig. Broodje rond de 14 euro. Lokatie is stijlvol.

Quality is beyond reproach. But the pace is a horror with little to no personal attention from the service. Cold atmosphere, all guests stare dead ahead, despite the nice weather. International audience, no advertising for the Netherlands

Fast service, but very mediocre food. Trout sandwich was 2 slices of bread with so little (tasteless) trout and little sauce that it was mainly a dry bite... unfortunately. If it is too expensive to invest this properly, take it off the card. Croque Madame & Monsieur was more to the taste of our table companion.

Outside there is a plate of coffee for 3.00 and apple pie for 4.75. Once inside, it's suddenly 3.50 for coffee and 6.50 for apple pie. Of course it is still my own choice to order it, but then you are already in. And it's already delicious, so just order it. But it is misleading.

I was happy to find enough vegan options here to have a nice lunch. It was not exceptional in any way, but I enjoyed my meal nonetheless. If you are visiting the museum anyway, this is a logical choice for a lunch.

Delicious croquettes and coffee after a walk on the Waaldorpervlakte.

After our visit to the museum we enjoyed a late lunch in the associated restaurant. Despite the crowds, we were received very kindly by Diego. After initially being seated at a table for two, he offered us another table with a bench. We took advantage of this. We drank tea and coffee and then ate wild mushroom soup and onion soup. The soups were delicious and sufficient. Diego inquired whether everything had been satisfactory and hoped to see us (especially my beautiful daughter, haha) again. Diego was super nice and it was a very nice experience.

Nice employees, fast service and even though there was a line, it was served quickly. Quite noisy inside. The environment is beautiful. Soup and croquettes in themselves reasonable. But otherwise very poor for the price: 1 old piece of bread with the soup, then you add at least 2 pieces, right? It's a lunch dish of 10 euros! With the bread and croquettes, no butter, 2 thin slices and a very pathetic garnish: 2 slices of pickle (widthwise) and 3 pearl onions in a bowl. Oh well, don't do anything then. Small container of mayonnaise. For 14 euros. No, this restaurant seems nicer than it is, we won't go there anymore.

We had a delicious lunch here, we were waiting in the hall because of the crowds. From the moment we stood until we had our food took only 20 minutes. Very friendly service, delicious ingredients and super cappuccino! Really worth going for lunch

We waited first at the door, ( people left because of waiting to long) that they gonna pick us up for a table. After 15 minutes we could get in. Was a friendly guy who brought us to the table. Then we waited for a long time but nobody was comming. No drinks or food. They really didn’t care. we did leave without having the chance to try. My daughter has also tried it a few times but was never be able to get something there. So for us it is never again !!

As a vegan, I had seen online that vegan dishes were available. In reality this was disappointing. There were only vegetarian dishes that could be made vegan, which means fewer ingredients and still the same price. The service was top notch and it is a beautiful environment to have lunch

Cozy restaurant, but very poor quality. Our salad consisted of a head of iceberg lettuce with 2 tomatoes and 2 pieces of egg. The soup was only liquid.

Today after visiting the great museum, the three of us thought we would have a nice lunch at this restaurant. A line at the door. We waited politely, after which the waiter showed us a seat further down the restaurant. Once there, my son is sitting on a chair and I and my daughter are sitting opposite him on the couch, stuck together at a 2-person table of 60 cm. On both sides of us, there are 2 people sitting very close to us, also at a 2-person table (but they do sit together at a table). I ask if we could get another table, since we ordered a (not cheap) lunch and we can't move our elbows. The waiter immediately indicates that this is not possible, because 'I can see that there is a long queue'. I indicate that I would like another table, so that we can eat and exercise normally like everyone else inside. Moreover, we also stood in the same queue. 😁 He gives a big mouth and walks away. About 5 minutes later I get up to speak to him again, because I don't think it's appropriate. The table next to us became available and he didn't want to join us either. My mouth is wide again. The man with the tight light brown gel hair combed back is now just shy of shouting at me. I say again that I don't think it's polite and antisocial how he reacts to this. I point him to another table with 3 people, but everyone can sit on one side of the table. But he continues to stand his ground. He arranges things at the door and shows people to a place. After I was yelled at by him and then by me, we of course left. He didn't need the money for coffee. Fine, then no. Then had a delicious lunch at a restaurant further away, where they know how it should be done. My advice, NEVER GO THERE! It seems strange to me if the reaction will now be that it was such an annoying 'incident' after so many bad reviews...😁

The restaurant was very busy and we had to wait to be seated. Yet even though we were a party of six they prepared a table quickly for us. The house used to be inhabited by a (wealthy) British family and has now been turned into a restaurant. The acoustics are not ideal, it can by loud at times, but it does bring some liveliness to place. The food is good, the quantity more than enough. Some of our party had a quiche, others had the mackerel, or the beyond burger or the Caesar salad. We topped that with some seasonal beers and sparkling water. No one regretted their choice :) the desserts were actually not bad at all; some of us had the berry dessert others the lemon meringue cake. We had a nice lunch among friends here!

Na een lunch genuttigd te hebben, hebben we nog een drankje besteld om het af te sluiten. We hebben ongeveer een uur (!) op 2 thee gewacht, maar nooit gekregen!!! We hebben de ober wel tweemaal aangesproken en gevraagd waar onze drankjes bleven. "Het is druk in de keuken" was de reactie. We dachten nog: "mmm, een drankje hoeft niet per se heel lang te duren en "in de keuken"?" Na weer een tijdje, toen het al ver na de drukte was, de meeste tafeltjes waren leeg, vroegen we opnieuw aan dezelfde ober of onze drankjes nog wel zouden komen, en of er niet iets fout was gegaan. Nee hoor, we moesten eduld hebben. Toen direct daarop diezelfde ober de mensen aan het tafeltje naast ons heel snel na hun bestelling 2 koffie had gebracht, waren we er klaar mee en hebben we onmiddellijk de rekening gevraagd. Tot grote schande stonden daar wel onze drankjes op!!! Gelukkig was mijn vriendin zo alert dat ze de rekening had gecheckt. Schandalig. We voelen ons niet gehoord en gezien, klantonvriendelijk behandeld en (bijna) afgezet. Wat een onbeschofte bediening. Wij komen niet terug. Ontraden ook iedereen in onze inner circle om erheen te gaan.

Wat hebben we veel betaald voor weinig! Een zeer zuinig aangeklede salade en echt waar: een croque madame/monsieur die uit slechts 1 boterham bestond en dat voor €16.00! Tot slot is er ook nog € 7,00 teveel gerekend, maar ja daar kwamen we te laat achter. Hadden we maar beter op moeten letten Rikie Bansberg

After the exhibition we had a quick chat in the Voorlinden restaurant. Beautiful location, fantastic coffee and special apple pie with pastry cream. Very friendly young service, professional, with a smile and willing to help. I thought it was worth a 10, very good. Nice atmosphere and fast service.

The door says "open daily from 10:30 am", but we just got a nice cup of coffee at 9:30 am. Before we went to the sock hour at the museum at 10:00 am.

Zo mooi als het museum was zo slecht was het restaurant . 3 van onze tafelgenoten namen pasta zeewier pesto. Moet een aparte zijn en dat met zeeeik en zeekraal. De pasta smaakte totaal nergens naar. De pasta was zo droog dat de uiteinden verdroogd naar boven stonden. Magnetron? De bediening gevraagd naar olie ,dat bracht geen verbetering. Dan maar extra pesto gevraagd . Sorry meneer. Kan niet. Zit altijd al in de pasta????? Als extra schelvis. Dat kost € 3.50 meer. Boven op de pasta ligt een stukje van ca 2x2 cm. Dat maakt samen ca €20 We kregen een pasta gratis maar daar zitten we niet op te wachten. Management doe er iets aan . Ga met de kok praten

As beautiful as the museum was, the restaurant was just as bad. 3 of our table companions had seaweed pesto pasta. Must be a special one with sea oak and samphire. The pasta tasted of nothing at all. The pasta was so dry that the ends were dried up. Microwave? Asked the waiter for oil, which brought no improvement. Then I asked for extra pesto. Sorry sir. Can't. Always been in the pasta?????. We got some pasta for free but we're not looking forward to that. Management do something about it. Go talk to the cook

What horrible unprofessional service that was. They don't understand customer service. If you operate the outdoor terrace with five people, you have to divide tasks, one of which is to guide the guests to a table, take the first order, which is usually a drink so that the guest is bound, and then the rest later. And so don't let a line form at the entrance and leave it there for 10 minutes + so that I just leave. Shame.

Was served a shrimp bisque and was disappointed to receive a bowl of lukewarm liquid which tasted like pure shellfish boullion powder, with soggy bread and no actual shrimps, but only some very tiny clams that were like rubber bullets. Service was reasonable for a museum restaurant.

Poor quality food for average prices. The shrimp bisque tasted very heavy and bland, and had no shrimp in it. The wait staff is not particularly attentive either.

Na ons bezoek aan het museum hier lekker op het terras gezeten. Onder de bomen wat gedronken en bitterballen gegeten. Leuk. Jammer dat dit om zes uur dicht gaat.

We hadden een salade burrata besteld . Burrata was niet lekker vers, paar stukjes peer en grapefruit. Er zat geen smaak aan. Veel sla maar het smaakte bitter en naar niks. Veel te duur ook!

After a walk through the dunes, a large group arrived on a weekday. The location and decor are beautiful. Unfortunately the lady who received us was impatient and sarcastic which really detracted from our visit and this beautiful place. Otherwise it would be a perfect ending after a visit to the museum or a walk. After a drink we continued our way again. The coffee was fine by the way. And the lunch menu looked promising.

Shout out to the staff. Had lunch twice in two weeks. Everyone is nice in a very personal way. New menu since today: goat cheese quiche is delicious. And the cortado too.

The fries at the restaurant of the Voorlinden museum are nothing like the fries from the fries shop around the corner. These fries look light in color, salty and sour in taste with a light hint of fish and bitter garnish. Almost forgot to mention the powerful crunch, nothing like the sunflower oily soggy weak fries from Our snack bar.

We got a cup of tea here after walking in the grounds. The old house is a nice location to have a drink. The food prices were quite expensive. The staff were friendly.

What an unpleasant draughty affair this is. Diametrically opposed to the quality and design of the museum. Two cups of coffee and two tiny cakes, which you still feel in your stomach for an hour out of three. And that for €20.00 And being nice doesn't cost money.

Had a drink in this restaurant after a walk in Meijendel. What an unpleasant thing this is. And as if that wasn't the worst thing, we were served our Belgian beer in a lemonade glass. Once and never again!

Location is nice but price-quality ratio is a bit lacking. And while many catering establishments in the Netherlands already offer a discount on coffee with plant-based milk, they here ask € 0.70 extra for oat milk in your coffee. Not up to date, pure fraud.

Na onze desastreuze ervaring in augustus deze keer een hele verandering ervaren: efficiënte ober - die de wel nog vuile tafelvlekken snel opschoonde - vriendelijke opname van onze bestelling. Uitstekende citroen meringue taartje. Goede cappuccino en thee. Wel nog de in sommige Nederlandse etablissementen vaker voorkomende ‘starende blik’ van personeel dat actief wegkijkt wanneer je iets wil vragen of afrekenen. Die in de ijle verte kijkende meisjes lijden gauw onder het overbodigheidssyndroom : als je niet actief je klanten peilt of je ze nog met iets kan helpen, heeft je baas ook gauw niets aan jou.

Eat elsewhere before you arrive at the museum!

After a museum visit, lunch on the terrace. The food was fine, gluten-free was also catered for, but what a disappointment the staff was. The lady in charge had no overview at all and couldn't handle it all. Sent an employee away to go to lunch and that just made it worse. Another employee stood with his hands behind his back doing nothing. The friendliness was hard to find!!! A tip: make sure you have a better organizational structure and don't let guests notice any stress on yourself! It also works better for people with disabilities who you employ.

Had an excellent lunch here a year and a half ago, but today was very disappointing. Unprepared salad, salty soup and to top it all off, the croquettes came out of the air fryer or oven. Bah.

For years we have been combining a museum visit with a lunch in the restaurant. The last time we were very disappointed with the choice and quality. The noon hour in particular is below par. We paid 20 euros for a small glass of soup, a mini bowl of lettuce and a white roll with, in our case, a shrimp croquette (an extra two euros more expensive than a regular croquette). Bagels and other sandwiches were also modestly filled for quite high prices. You will be sitting next to an excellent museum. The price and quality of the restaurant continues to decline.

It was too busy. The crew couldn't handle it. Often walked out per order instead of. for multiple tables. Waited 35 minutes for our drinks and 40 minutes for lunch. We asked the manager for the bill. She also had to wait quite some time because she had to do all kinds of things in between. When we received the bill we indicated that we thought it was taking a long time. The manager responded: "yes, you should take a look in the restaurant to see how busy it is". Very unprofessional response. Wr won't go again

The lemon "raspberry" meringue tart was seriously substandard for several reasons: there was nothing in it that reminded of raspberry, the lemon 'custard' was hardly sour and in terms of dough the tart looked more like a pencée or butter cake: way too much dough. The vinaigrette with the lettuce was only served when we asked for it (after about 10 minutes). We liked the mackerel sandwich and the service was friendly. But perhaps a little more shelter (we sat outside, under the trees - tables in (partial) sun were scarce) could be organised? Of course it looks beautiful in the green, but the combination of shade and strong wind made lunchtime unexpectedly chilly for such a beautiful day.

We went for a really quick break from visiting the museum. The waiter helped us to get our order (coffee, coquette, and sweets) very quickly 👍 Vegan coquette was delicious and the lemon cake was beautiful and tasty. It was very noisy in the hall though, maybe the inside acoustics also did nothing to alleviate that.

Delicious lunch and friendly service!

Unfortunately, we did not enjoy eating there. The food was not convincing at all - it was not tasting good (celery soup & pumpkin sandwitch & banana cake). The soup and sandwitch were missing taste. The cake was full of sugar and not tasting well… On one side, building interior is really nice, on the other side - tables & seats were not very clean (seats covered by crumbs). The service was quite fast, but the waitresses were sometimes making really ugly face expressions when they were leaving guest´s tables… There is definitely a huge potential in this place, but currently offered food & services are poor. :(

We ended up having a very tasty, quite extensive lunch here today in one of the attractive rooms in this villa. The service is smooth and friendly. Just keep in mind that you will have to wait up to 15 minutes in the hall before a table becomes available. This could be communicated more clearly at the entrance.

After 4 PM there is NO vegan option on the menu.. how's that possible...?

The food is good eventhough quite simple. Salads and sandwiches. Unfortunately the service is very very slow eventhough waiters are numerous. Problem should be the kitchen. I will not come back.

Lovely staff and I see they do put effort to hire people with extra need. The restaurant is really Wassenaar style and level. The service is slow, to do not know why and prices are not cheap but doable, but I will say Museum Voorlinden really see this as an opportunity to get loaded. It goes really fast with change of tables, so be patient. In the summer they have the safari tent and the outdoor place what are very lovely. I will say they serve for local and for visitors that have some spare time or want to catch up with each other about the visited this is the place but do not expect your order will be fast or get someone speaking to you. There is one that seating, order and clean, the others are there to serve the food and whenever they are able to take plates at the same time. If you want to spend some spare time, their outdoor place will be a very lovely place. I do love the path around the museum especially the long hallway with couches where people can sit and read museum books. When observing from the outside, they are a kind of installation. The outdoor area is very well kept it feels like a wealthy castle owner quality. 4/10

Had a delicious lunch, it was worth the wait. Service left a bit to be desired.

Had dinner in the beautiful courtyard on Tuesday, August 23. Unfortunately I found a bone in my mackerel. I showed it to the waitress in charge (who happened to be clearing our table) so she could ask the kitchen staff to pay more attention. Her response was arrogant and subpar. "It's that fresh with us, freshly picked every day." I wonder what she would have said if I had choked on it.

Lovely place but we had been waiting for one apple juice and one espresso for 30 minutes. The espresso arrived without a glass of water. Our table was cleaned quickly when we sat down but the bench was still covered in stains and crumbs. Fake fancy.

Was fun. We were playing a game.

Beautiful location, ate outside but it was bad. 12 hours, a little bit of soup, a large bowl of unkempt lettuce with some pieces of old bread, old crusts, that's all it was and all for 15.50. scandalous

Ordered 2 portions of shrimp bitterballen. After an hour of waiting and reminding the waiter twice we received one portion of beef bitterballen. Waste of time.

The prices and portions are out of proportion. The quality is good. I had the shrimp croquettes. two small croquettes without any garnish, served with simple sandwiches. Staff was very busy and difficult to contact. I had to make an effort to be allowed to pay. Next time I'll take a look at Wassenaar.

Delicious cakes and friendly and fast staff! Plus a beautiful view

My husband and I visited this beautiful business for the first time on Easter Sunday. In the morning before our visit to the museum, we drank a delicious cappuccino with a cake. We were immediately struck by the attentive service. At that moment we decided to have lunch there after visiting the museum. The lunch was also excellent and we were recognized, which was also very nice. The next day, Easter Monday, because of the good and pleasant experiences on Easter Sunday, we decided to have a delicious cappuccino with cakes here again. Despite the enormous crowds of Easter, we were recognized and approached as such. What craftsmanship, no bare catering but real hostess/hostess. Thanks to this approach and the excellent quality of the drinks, we started our return trip to Alkmaar with a very good feeling. We strongly recommend this restaurant to everyone, not only because of the ambiance and the quality of the drinks, but also because of the hostess/hostess shown. Enjoyed a delicious meal in beautiful surroundings after a museum visit

Wonderful to arrive at Voorlinden on a free afternoon. First a great museum visit, then a delicious BLT at the restaurant (with a very tasty tomato chutney!), then a walk around the estate and ending, back at the restaurant, with beer and bitterballen. Ideal trip: warm welcome by friendly staff, beautiful location and a good map.

What a nice place to have lunch in nature! And very friendly staff. The brioche with mackerel is highly recommended!

I give 4 for the location and the price that is aligned with restaurants in less beautiful locations. I took a salad and unfortunately it was only vegetables: no vegetal proteins, no carbs. I was hungry again after 2 hours. I would not sell that as a meal but as a side.
