As long as foie gras is on the menu, I won't be setting foot in here again. Time to move with the times without torture meat.

All in all, a disappointing experience. The atmosphere and service don't live up to their promises, and the fact that foie gras is still on the menu in 2025 speaks volumes. During my visit, protesters caused a significant disturbance, while the staff reacted indifferently. Not something I'll be returning to.

Foie gras on the menu...What is this for place??

We had a fantastic five-course meal with a view of the open kitchen, where the finest dishes are produced. The men told wonderful stories about the wines they serve. We had a wonderful evening. We'd love to come again.

Always a treat to eat here. Delicious wine pairs well with the food, but it's also possible to just have a drink.

Incredibly limited menu. Vegetarian/vegan food isn't available here. It's a shame this restaurant doesn't seem to want to keep up with the times. They serve the controversial foie gras, the "production" of which is illegal for a reason. Rude owner. Don't go here and spend your money elsewhere.

Foie Grass on the menu leaves a bad taste in my mind, you just know mindfulness has not been a thing when designing the menu.

We had a wonderful meal at Roemer! The sea bass was incredibly tender... and the sauce: wow! The owner has wonderful stories about the wines, and the atmosphere is fantastic. Fine dining in a relaxed setting. We'll definitely be back 👌🏼

They should take foie gras off the menu

I was sitting here today and there was a huge, noisy protest. And rightly so. It turns out Roemer sells foie gras. I hated having to eat in the din of those protesters. But I found it even worse that they were selling this torture pâté. I'm definitely never coming back here.

Excellent service, excellent food, super friendly and accommodating, and the flavors simply perfectly matched. The tea pairing is a poem.

This restaurant continues to serve foie gras and refuses to discontinue it. Protesters stand outside every week, making a lot of noise, making it impossible to dine peacefully. Because of these ongoing protests and the owner's lackadaisical attitude, I won't be returning.

I came here for a pleasant evening, but unfortunately, it was a disappointment... there was a demonstration against "foie gras" on the menu. Apparently, it's been happening regularly for a few months now and is causing extreme noise pollution for the guests (and the neighbors, I assume?). We decided not to go inside; foie gras is way too much for me. It's 2025, come on! I hope to be able to return here soon, but not with extreme noise pollution and animal cruelty on the menu...

At Roemer, you eat a set menu. You choose the number of courses and indicate what you don't like/can't eat, and the dishes are adapted accordingly. A cart with bubbles starts the meal, and you can order oysters or ham to go with it. Then, three delicious appetizers, and the fun can begin. :)

Protesters showed us footage of what happens behind the scenes when making foie gras. The images were truly shocking. I can't believe anyone, as a normal human being, would even put this on the menu, let alone! Especially since you have to import it from abroad, as it's illegal in the Netherlands.

We actually came here with the intention of simply having a nice evening, but unfortunately, things didn't go our way. During our visit, there were protesters protesting a dish on the menu. It was very loud, which didn't exactly enhance the atmosphere. They explained what the protest was about and showed us images, which were truly shocking. It turned out to be foie gras. What I find difficult to understand is why this dish is still on the menu at all, especially now that there's so much public debate about it and the production method clearly causes serious animal suffering. Instead of simply choosing to remove it, the restaurant seems to have chosen to keep it at all costs. That doesn't feel customer-friendly to us and, frankly, not inviting either. All in all, this wasn't the kind of experience we were hoping for, and that makes us hesitant to return.

I heard from acquaintances that their dinner at Roemer was unexpectedly interrupted. They found the restaurant taped off, with police outside and protesters outside. Inside, it was tumultuous due to the protest, which focused on foie gras, a dish the restaurant apparently deliberately keeps on its menu. Frankly, I was surprised that a restaurant would accept such tensions by sticking with a controversial ingredient, while there are plenty of alternatives that wouldn't provoke discussion. For guests who come for a relaxing evening out, that doesn't seem like an ideal setting. For my own part, for my next reservation, I'd want to know firsthand whether I expect further unrest, or better yet, whether the restaurant is choosing a menu that actually enjoys widespread support.

We had a fantastic evening. The food paired with the wines were superb! The staff and their product knowledge were a breath of fresh air. This is how a night out should be!

Best restaurant and wine bar in Utrecht! Great food and really special wines (in the wine arrangement, by the glass). At Roemer you can enjoy yourself from start to finish. The service is great and it is always super cozy. Absolutely top!

What should have been a lovely evening out ended with a bad taste. I am doing well so I think it is important that the meat I eat has also had a good time, which is why I only go to the better restaurants. We ordered the chef's menu. To my surprise I was served foie gras. The waiter admitted that the duck on my plate had been tortured, but said that it was not so important because it tasted good. Ridiculous. I will not be returning here.

We had made a reservation for the lobster evening. Upon arrival, there was a group of protesters, very noisy, because of the foie gras on the menu. We were shown to the table, by the window, right in front of the protesters, so we could hardly talk to each other for more than an hour. There were more tables free and they remained free, so another table would not have been a problem. The food was tasty, not shocking but good. What struck me was the lax attitude of the staff regarding the inconvenience we experienced. They could not even buy a glass of wine on the house to compensate for more than an hour of noise and not being able to escape video images of force-fed geese. With an amount of €800 for four guests, such a gesture would have been peanuts, but it does come across as a bit nicer. We did not make a fuss about the inconvenience that evening and apparently that is a reason to be very easygoing with guests. For me a reason not to go there again.

Great experience! A real evening of enjoyment, even for someone like me who is not a gourmet and yet notices that certain combinations go together super well. Compliments to the chef, but also to all (perfectly dressed) staff. Took 1 photo, otherwise too busy enjoying and tasting wines.

This restaurant serves foie gras: fatty goose liver made by force feeding geese. Even after asking several times to take it off the menu, they don't listen. Foie gras is one of the most animal unfriendly things you can do!

Food remains tasty and nice menus and wines

Pasar Malam opposite the restaurant had no water due to a municipal issue and therefore no toilet. Unfortunately, the toilet was not allowed to be used (once), not even for a fee. Must have had a bad experience.

We enthusiastically wanted to try Roemer's wine bar. Entering didn't really feel welcome. The wine bar turned out to be a separate corner of the dining area. We sat for three hours and only saw service for our first drink. Not the cozy atmosphere we had in mind. No drinks menu was seen or offered as an option with the wine. Not worth repeating if you come and have a nice drink with us.

Since October last year, the Netherlands has gained a top restaurant, in fact, Gault-Millau has already found them: chef Glenn and host/sommelier Wim and their excellent team at #roemer-utrecht. Delicious 5- to 8-course menu, nice portions, delicious flavors, a different menu every month. Allergies are taken into account and the wines are top notch. The ambiance is chic-modern, lots of glass and shine, and the table layout has been well thought out. Many tables overlook the open kitchen, where you can watch the chefs at work. For ladies with high heels, the choice for the high chairs and tables is a little less suitable, but the chairs are comfortable. Nice to find such a neat restaurant in Leidsche Rijn, close to bus, train and parking garage, and cinema. All staff are friendly and know what they are talking about. Delicious food, at acceptable prices considering the level of cuisine. Open from 12 noon, also for lunch and wine and bites, closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

Yesterday we had a delicious meal and drinks at Roemer during the winemakers dinner of Adega Belém. Definitely recommended to experience a winemakers dinner here, the atmosphere was very pleasant. But dining in this restaurant without an event also seems very pleasant, because of the delicious food and the wide choice of wine! All in all, we will definitely come back again!

New spotlight in the main screen. Open since October 2021. Beautiful spacious restaurant with high ceilings. Easily accessible by public transport, bicycle, car, etc. We were here for a quick drink, but we will definitely do more research here to taste something more than the cheese board and a glass of nice white wine. Delicious food, good and polite service, nice atmosphere. I found the service a bit 'popular', but that is personal taste and does not detract from the quality or service. What makes it extra fun is the tea arrangement: a suitable tea for every dish. Very original and wonderful if you (e.g. as Bob) don't want to be alone on the water.

Very nice food at Roemer! The menu before your cinema visit gave us the impression that it was a quick bite as we did not know the restaurant, but it is very nice to dine here! Chic, good service, tasty wines, more of something for a nice long meal! We'll definitely do that next time.
