Nice place and nice food. The waiter, Giannis, was very kind and helped us a lot with our twins. Always kept an eye on us and on our children needs.

I could say that everything was good, the food was ok except for the fact that after we sat down at the table we were told that they didn't have chicken breast or pizza... the staff seemed unprofessional to me, they forgot to bring us our drinks and then I received an alcoholic beer even though I had ordered free alcohol, the waiter was quite full of him, answering in an ironic tone.

We (family with a baby) came to drink coffee with some cake with a baby stroller. And not a nice waiter with told us with basically empty cafe (3 tables were taken) that here we can not do it here. Proposed the bar place - baby obviously cannot sit there. All 3 tables were also drinking only coffee…. Worst service ever…

Limited but delicious breakfast menu, fine service and beverage selection.

The Italian menu is not tasty, I tried the pizza, it is not Italian style, also the Boratta salad. The buffet breakfast included small and limited menu. Also expensive comparing to other Italian restaurants around.

The classic carbonara was completely oily, oversalted, and you could just tell it was low quality. €19... The Caesar salad was just as bad... simply a few lettuce leaves with cheese and chicken on top. It wasn't tasty. Also around €20!!!

Staff and breakfast just perfect

Just had a really nice dinner here. I went for the burger with fries, absolutely amazing. The truffle sauce was on another level! My friend had pasta, which was also delicious. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, and the place is very central. Definitely worth a visit!

A perfectly cooked omelet on a good slice of bread, accompanied by a small salad of arugula with feta and a delicious dressing. And all that for 11 euros in the center of Amsterdam... unbelievable, but true. Royal 98 proves that it's possible to run an affordable restaurant in a prime location without compromising on quality and service. Elsewhere in the city, things are getting worse, with sky-high prices and mediocre to poor quality, but not at Royal 98. Applause!

Stay away from this restaurant if you value hygiene and service. After we finished our pizzas, the neighbors at the table next to ours noticed a mouse under our table. When I jumped up, the waiter came to ask if everything was alright. I pointed out there was a mouse and pointed out it was a bit further away. He said this was normal in Amsterdam, and continued with what he was doing. To me, that's a clear sign they don't care about hygiene or providing customers a good time. The one star-rating is still too many. This restaurant should be shut down.

Got some really delicious burgers here! You pay a bit more, but you're right next to Dam Square, so it was definitely worth it. Friendly service; we didn't have a reservation and were able to sit right away, which was great! Nice place :)

I found this place by chance while walking around the center of Amsterdam. I came here to eat pasta and drink coffee. Everything was very tasty, the staff speaks English. It was very nice that when the place was closing, I was not even asked to leave, I noticed that they were cleaning the hall, and I asked if they were closing and politely left the hall. Date: April 11, 2025 This morning, we visited Restau-Café Royal 98 in Amsterdam for lunch. The girls working there were very kind, and the food was good. We enjoyed the experience so much that we decided to come back in the evening for dinner and drinks. However, at around 8:15 PM, we were treated very poorly by a man at the entrance. He aggressively threw away our fries, saying they were not from the restaurant even though we were clearly coming in to dine and order more food, as we had earlier in the day. I have never experienced such aggression and a disrespectful way of rejecting customers before. It was shocking and humiliating. I’m usually a very loyal customer when I find a place I like, but after this experience, I will never return and cannot recommend it to anyone. Instead, we went to “All Stars Snack” nearby, where they welcomed us warmly even inviting us in with our fries and other customers with their waffles without us even asking. Customer service matters, and unfortunately, tonight it was completely lacking at Royal 98. For us, it was just fries but who knows what it will be next time, or who the next person will be treated this way and for what reason.

I completely agree with the comment about the fries incident. Earlier in the day, we were impressed by the warm and friendly service from the girls, and we had a great experience. However, the situation changed drastically in the evening when a man working there was extremely unprofessional and aggressive in his manner. His rude attitude and harsh words completely ruined the experience for us. Before, I didn’t have the courage to speak up about it, but after seeing that this has happened to other customers as well, I now feel confident to say something. It’s very clear that this type of behavior is not an isolated incident, and it’s unacceptable. We had returned because we enjoyed our earlier visit, but after being treated this way, we will not be coming back. Such behavior shows a complete lack of respect for customers and ruins the reputation of what could have been a good place.

The worst Service in all Amsterdam

Lovely restaurant with simple but good and fresh food. We really enjoyed our visit to your restaurant on Dam Square. We were very comfortable and ate well, the waitress was very friendly! I recommend this place!

The restaurant is in a lovely, peaceful part of the city with a charming ambiance. The staff was friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome. However, the food, while decent, had small portions and did not quite match the high prices. I expected more generous servings and a better overall experience for the cost.

Leuke inrichting. Stoelen zijn wel echt aan vervanging toe. Besteld: 2 x de burger, pasta met garnalen, kippenborst. De burgers zijn biet zelf gemaakt en er mocht meer kaas op. Bij de pasta zaten 4 garnalen (weinig voor deze prijs). De kip was mals en niet droog. De mayo stond al een tijdje aan de kleur te zien. Prima lokatie. Al met al redelijk. Maar toch net iets te duur voor de kwaliteit. Ik zou het niet nog eens kiezen.

As hotel guests at Swissôtel, we were ignored by this one older gentleman when we asked for 4 seats, and his bad mood was noticeable throughout the restaurant.

Great restaurant, delicious food and large portions

The staff at this restaurant are friendly and helpful, which makes the experience pleasant from the start. The food is decent and reasonably priced, offering good value for money. However, the interiors are in serious need of a refresh. The worn-out furniture, with upholstery that has visible tears, creates a gloomy atmosphere and makes you want to leave rather than linger. It’s a shame because with some updates, this place could truly shine.

This place used to be one of our favorite spots in Amsterdam. This time, we decided to try the steak. Before ordering, we asked about the portion size and were informed it was 250 grams. For 28€, we decided to give it a try, but unfortunately, it was very disappointing. As you can see in the attached image, it looks closer to 100 grams, and taste-wise, it wasn’t good either. Just across the street on Damstraat, there are plenty of steakhouses (Argentinian, Mexican, etc.) offering much better options at more affordable prices, around 14–15€.

Cold December lunchtime, rainy outside. Work done, body frozen, treat required. Behold! Opposite the Bijenkorf right on Dam Square, Royal 98. I’d never been before and I was actually heading somewhere else, or at least I thought I was, but then I caught sight of a flash of irresistible gezelligheid and I was in. Inside I was greeted, given a choice of tables and accommodated in a timely and professional fashion. Warmhearted but not overbearing. Just right. The menu was delivered. I perused and made my choice. Pappardelle beef ragu. House red. From my high table at the back of the front section of the restaurant, I could see out across Dam Square, so twinkling and beautiful and Christmassy that you can just about convince yourself the world isn’t really ending. Ditto Claudia Cardinale, on the wall to my left. My wine came. And it was good. Then my pasta came. And it was excellent. Succulent beef. Toothsome pasta ribbons. Damn near perfect. Made me feel guilty in all kinds of ways. Then I noticed one of a nearby party of Germans order an Irish coffee and I had to have one. I also saw that there was a ten-euro tiramisu on the menu. And I had to have it. To say both were excellent would be an understatement. The tiramisu was one of the best I’ve ever had. The textures were … almost moving. I could have eaten it a hundred times. Even the little sprig of mint was a triumph. The staff too, were excellent. Two guys, Hans and Robert. Dutch guys! Dutch service is frequently diabolical but these guys were outstanding. As the restaurant became busy, they wordlessly catered to every table, every group, quickly, efficiently, and with genuine alacrity. There was one moment as they were pottering away behind the bar, that they started laughing together, and I liked that very much. Happy staff, doing a job they clearly enjoy and consequently doing it very well indeed. Maybe I got lucky. I mean, I definitely got lucky because I can’t think of a single weak point. It’s not cheap, but of course it’s not — look where it is. But it’s worth it. I didn’t begrudge a penny. The décor is also great and supergezellig and there was a pretty decent Christmas soundtrack playing throughout. I’m not exaggerating when I say this was one of my favourite Amsterdam dining experiences and I will remember it for the rest of my life. It’s personal, you know? It just hit the right spot, in the right moment, and everything was perfect. Wholeheartedly recommend.

We stayed in the swissotel and went in next door at Royal 98. The staff and food amazing best in Europe so far. The food was well presented and fresh . First night we had the mixed entrees , chicken caesar salad and pepperoni pizza. All were very tasty and fresh . We couldn't resist and had lunch following day I had the Beef burger and fresh potato fries and my partner had the club sandwich. Again couldn't fault both the flavours were absolute beautiful. Thank you Robert and Olga who were so welcoming and the service they provided was 5 stars.

⭐ ROYAL98 - Correct, but nothing more ⭐ The ROYAL98 restaurant offers a decent dining experience. The dishes were good, well prepared and served within a reasonable time frame. However, nothing particularly stood out. The setting is pleasant, but without any real striking atmosphere, and the service, although professional, lacked that little something extra to make the experience memorable. In short, it is a satisfactory address if you are looking for a simple and unpretentious meal, but not necessarily a place that leaves a lasting memory.

We were guests at the hotel that is part of this restaurant. Every day, we spent money at the bar and restaurant. Our friend placed his wallet on the counter, above which there are three cameras, and his wallet was stolen. We asked the restaurant staff to show us the footage to see where the wallet went, but they made excuses, saying it wasn’t possible to show the footage until the next day because the security team didn’t work after 5 PM. The next day, they told us it wasn’t possible without a police warrant. They were very rude and unhelpful. The waiters mocked us and acted inappropriately. We suspect they are maybe somenody is involved and they trying to cover something up.

Reservamos este restaurante hace 3 semanas para una mesa de 7 personas para un amigo 30th, fuimos al restaurante para enterarnos de que habían cancelado nuestra reserva y todo el mundo reservando con gente se sentó en el restaurante. No impresionado no reservaría aquí.

First brunch enjoyed upon arriving in Amsterdam, very good and delicious!

Ernüchternd!!! Wir waren an einem Mittwoch um 17:30 zu viert dort. Aufgrund der guten Bewertungen haben wir uns für dieses Lokal entschieden. Wir haben eine gemischte Vorspeisenplatte bestellt, einmal Pasta, ein Club Sandwich und zwei Pizzen. Fazit: die Vorspeisenplatte kam mit den Hauptgängen zusammen. Das geht nicht! Die Pizzen waren kalt (wir konnten dabei zusehen, wie sie direkt nach Bestellung zubereitet wurden und außerhalb des Ofens standen die dann bis zur Abholung ungefähr 10 Minuten), als wir das freundlich beanstandet haben, wurden die Pizzen für ein paar Sekunden wieder in den steinigen geschickt und kamen wieder…. Trocken! Als die Getränke alle waren, wurden wir nicht einmal gefragt, ob wir noch etwas möchten. Die Carbonara war mit Sahne versetzt und ungesalzen. Das Club Sandwich war sehr nüchtern, kein Salz! Das einzig gute waren die Fritten! Aber die bekomme ich in Amsterdam überall perfekt für 5€!!! Mieser Service, schlechtes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis!!! Eine durchschnittlich schmeckende Pizza 19€!!! Ich kann nur von diesem Restaurant abraten!

Sobering!!! We were there on a Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. We chose this restaurant because of the good reviews. We ordered a mixed appetizer platter, one pasta, one club sandwich and two pizzas. Conclusion: the starter plate came together with the main courses. That doesn't work! The pizzas were cold (we were able to watch them being prepared immediately after ordering and then sat outside the oven for about 10 minutes until we picked them up), when the drinks were gone we weren't even asked if we wanted anything else. The carbonara had cream added and was unsalted. Bad service, bad value for money!!! An average tasting pizza €19!!! I can only advise against this restaurant!

Ik kwam binnen in een super fijne gastvrije sfeer, het interieur is warm ingericht. De eigenaar toonde oprechte interesse, gad ons goed advies over de menukaart. De zitplekken zijn super comfortabel, de gasten waren gezellig en heb op en top genoten van de algehele sfeer. Kan ik 10/10 aanbevelen. De hapjes zijn aangepast op de cocktails. Het is een vrije bar voor mensen met een vrije geest

This place used to be so good and I used to come here many times but my last experience was so bad. I ordered the Fresh orange juice and they gave me from the can but keep insisting till the end that it is fresh. So much arrogance and rude.

It's a good looking and modern restaurant. Sadly the bitterballen were cold inside, this is a no go for a Dutch restaurant. Also the service didn't come often enough to take orders. Prices are a little too high.

El restaurante no tenía ambiente y era realmente frío, el personal de camareros parecía apresurado y no interactuó con nosotros. La comida era horrible, mi pasta pesto llegó como pasta hervida sin salsa, pedí que se añadiera la salsa y sabía tan grasienta y aceitosa. No hay disculpas del personal que espera. La comida es tan caro, absolutamente no hay necesidad de un parpadelle ragu (sabor medio y presentación) ser de 23 €. Nunca volvería.

I discovered this restaurant with my family during a trip to Amsterdam, and the food was simply superb! Me and my girlfriend stopped for Two meals both selected from the pasta section on the menu. Both where perfect and not badly priced one €16 the other €17. Definitely recommend for central location eating.

I was very happy they confirmed my sameday reservation for 10 people after calling me back and asking if it was allright to seat us at two tables. The Staff was nice enough, but most the food was cold and when we asked about it, they told us that‘s how it‘s supposed to be. Sure… The food was mostly allright, but nothing special. I wouldn‘t go again.

We were in Amsterdam for 2 days and we came here for dinner on both evenings. The pizza, pasta and burgers are delicious. Prices are slightly steep for what it is but not too bad. 4 stars as they only seem to have the more expensive wines in stock, meaning if you want wine, you’ll have to spend slightly more. Staff are lovely and accommodating, and the decor is tasteful.

This restaurant was underwhelming at best. As we sat down, the waiter informed us that they didn’t have pizza tonight—which was ridiculous because 1/4 of their menu is pizza. I ordered what was described as the pesto pasta but imagine my surprise when the pasta came out with no pesto. Perhaps they confused pesto for zucchini because it sure was full of that. For €18 I was disappointed with my meal, as it lacked flavor. When someone in my party asked for more parmesan because they were given hardly any, they tried to charge us €3.5 for it! Quite the scam but luckily we got that charge removed. I knew better than to ask for water here—I know that would have been one pretty penny.

Beautiful place and delicious food

We booked as a family to visit this restaurant at the end of May. We booked online and received a confirmation of the booking. We arrived on time, having booked in advance only to be told that they had not approved our booking, we showed our email which said they had approved it but they refused to accommodate and said we would have to go elsewhere. It was a Saturday night in Amsterdam so as a group, we had to go looking for somewhere else which was not easy. As a result, our group was split at a different restaurant. Awful - book at your own risk.
