The BEST food in Amsterdam. Everything is fresh and full of flavor. Seems like a family owned place and the brothers that we have seen working there are both extremely friendly. The best way we have found to eat here is to go in and just ask them to fix a plate with whatever they think will taste good together. We have never been disappointed! The seating is extremely limited, so just know you may have to wait or take your food to go.

I loved the food there! Everything fresh and delicious! Great variety of vegan and non-vegan dishes. The staff very friendly and helpful. I'd come back every day if I could!

This business is an Algerian business. This business sells food that is worth €14 for €18. The food that is already prepared is heated up much too hot, which means that the nutritional value is zero. A 1.5 small glass of tea costs €4.50 that is available elsewhere for €3 with more content and is tastier.

Finished the whole plate in one sitting 🫢🫣 The products these guys use are incredibly fresh and each ingredient is treated with care, which affects the overall taste experience. And then the baklava to end the meal with was like the cherry on top with its refined flavors and multiple crispy thin layers of the pastry👌🏼🤌🏼 Also very inviting owners who love what they do😊 Will definitely be returning back to this lovely place ✨

We were looking for a late lunch in the area and found this place by pure chance. The restaurant is 100% perfect in every way. The staff (or host) was very kind and helpful in explaining the dishes to us (see previous posts for more details on the rules - no menu, you choose one basic side dish, one meat dish and 3 vegetable dishes) (or a fourth instead of meat). The food was simply divine. The place is not very spacious but very friendly.

I am really impressed with the quality of food and service we had in Rue d'Alger. There isn't a specific menu but basically, you get to choose one choice of meat and three choices of veggie, all served in one plate. We went in for lunch and had chicken and lamb as our protein options. I personally enjoyed the aubergine and brussel sprouts as they were seasoned and cooked perfectly. Highly recommended for those who want an authentic Mediterranean cuisine experience.

Really cozy spot. The server was very welcoming and friendly and helpful. I ate the couscous with 4 veggies, it was really wonderful! Finished with Almond Baklava for dessert with some Algerian tea to go.

I called them with a special request as a surprise for my girlfriend and they were extremely sweet and helpful! Extremely personal and involved; for service a big ten. It is very cozy to sit in the booth, and the food was sublime for a reasonable price. Only praise, I will definitely come here more often!

We went for lunch attracted by the excellent reviews and the beautiful appearance of the place, with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables on display. The menu varies depending on the availability of the ingredients, the couscous is assembled on the spot with ingredients of your choice, seasoned and served hot. The dishes are very tasty, the ingredients are fresh and good. We went for lunch with a child and he also found everything very pleasant. The kindness of the owner is commendable, truly helpful. If I had a restaurant like this near home I think I would go there often.

The guys who run it are very friendly and caring. The food is very delicious. Sauces and spices were just right. You can choose whatever was cooked that day on the couscous or rice base.

I rarely give full 5-star ratings, not because I’m overly picky, but because I always find something that could be just a little better. That was not the case at Rue d'Alger. I’ve had good food in Amsterdam, but nothing has ever been as exceptional as what I experienced here. The flavors were so complex and well-balanced that, for the first time, I couldn’t pick apart the spices or deconstruct the dish to try recreating it at home. It was simply that good. I even asked the incredibly kind server about their rice, and he generously shared a bit of their secret—though I doubt I could ever replicate it! Beyond the outstanding food, the portions were huge, the prices were incredibly reasonable, and the service was warm and welcoming. It’s rare to find a place that excels in all these areas, but Rue d’Alger does just that. Without a doubt, this has to be one of my favorite restaurants in the Netherlands. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.

The food was interesting and excellent. The staff was warm and welcoming. We went at about 5:30, and they were already sold out of a number of items. Nevertheless, we were served a great variety of delicious food. The dining area was pretty crowded and a bit uncomfortable. This may have been the best food we had in Amsterdam. Don’t miss it!

10+ Yes, this is so delicious, super fresh with lots of flavor. Rarely beautiful combinations of vegetables and the chicken was also a surprise. Sprouts eggplant beans, what a taste! We will be back soon to taste more

Wow is the term for the food. What a terrific find. We were looking for a great place to eat near the museums and this place did not disappoint. Beware that it is small inside but well worth the effort. We started with a pumpkin goat cheese appetizer which was great. Looked amazing too. For entrees, one of us had a rice base with chicken entree and vegetables. I had a cous cous base with octopus. Both were not only delicious but very large portions. They were tasty, fresh, and full of flavor, For dessert, we shared a piece of Baklava. It was crispy and sweet without being too sweet. All in all a great meal. They do not serve alcohol FYI but drink selection was good. Prices were very reasonable. We will be back for sure. One more note - Don't bring luggage here. There isn't room.

No menu, just yummy food. Pick your base (rice or cous cous), protein and 3 veggies, share a delicious starter and a dessert. All food is prepared by Chef Yusuf. Cozy dining, but definitely tight quarters when busy. Thank you!

Great food! Absolutely beautiful, colourful vegetables but the main guy could smile a little bit more ;) the guy second helping is such a joy. He is more in the background but I would love to see him handle my bill too. Curly hair and bubbly. He makes the whole experience even greater with his light and smile.

Rue d'Alger is one of those magical places that are only possible because it's people love what they do. Yousef and Nadir built a beautiful restaurant with a warm atmosphere, and an amazing food. I visited with my wife and our 3 kids, it was a special experience. See you again soon 😉

Very honest home-cooked food, charming staff, lovely and comfortable small place. True Mediterranean food cooked with love and fresh ingredients.. at fair prices. In a city with so many options and so much offer this place is like an oasis. You quickly notice when you’re there that this place is one of those that really means something to the neighborhood…. People (all ages, origins and cultures) coming in to take away their meal spending a minute to chat gently with the owner about the day, the kids, the weather.. For sure one of the best beyond-food experiences choosing where to eat randomly while traveling.

A very nice small Algerian restaurant. It has no menu because you can see the freshly cooked food and create a meal yourself. The meals have a base, a type of meat and 3 types of vegetables (4 if you're going vegetarian). We were served by the two owners who were very friendly. Overall, a great experience in a cozy spot.

Wonderful little restaurant. Absolute recommendation. Only has 6 tables. There is no menu. It's simply cooked and everything comes fresh to the counter and you can put together your meal however you like. Surprise whether meat or fish is there right now.

Staff were so warm and welcoming! Me and my sister were visiting from New York they walked us through their beautiful display of food and how the system works (which is an amazing concept btw). They don’t have a menu, they cook from the heart and change it up, but Yousef is a master at creating delicious anything and everything. We got the starter, our own plates, and the baklava to finish with some tea. It was practically a three course meal for two all under €65. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. Will come here again when in Amsterdam!

I went to this place sight unseen with a friend of mine and we were pleasantly surprised, the tajine with the base of couscous or rice is very good with the side dishes which are truly delicious, with seasonal vegetables. The environment is really welcoming and the guys inside are very friendly and nice, as well as available for suggestions. I also recommend and recommend Algerian tea and baclava. Fantastic place.

Really excellent, small, Algerian cafe and shop. Plates of food are large and great quality - mixture of meat and vegetarian options, so something for everyone. Lovely service from the staff too, very friendly, and all decent prices for what you receive. We had a vegetarian plate each, which was couscous/rice with four extra vegetable dishes (aubergine, sprouts, peppers, beans etc) as well as the suede with goats cheese, apricot and date side dish. Would highly recommend for visitors and residents!

Haven't had such a good meal in a long time

On my recent trip to Amsterdam, I had the pleasure of dining in at Rue d'Alger. This is a small restaurant and have limited seating but once you try the their food you will realize that you are in food heaven, it is seriously out of this world, so fresh and delicious. They serve generous portions and top notch food. We tried numerous dishes of the day, from appetizers (artichoke and eggplant), entrees (chickpea rice, sea bass, chicken) and bak lava for dessert. The food and the owners (the guy at the front and the chef) were amazing. Highly recommend this place.
