The food was good, but the service was substandard. We wanted to sit outside on the terrace, but the staff clearly had no interest in that. The napkins were thrown on the table and the cutlery placed down indifferently. When taking our order, the man stood there looking grumpy, and when asked a question, he answered curtly and curtly. I won't be going back here anytime soon. We did not feel welcome.

Extremely slow service with 45min waiting time between courses. The worst thing is the rude waitress/waiters which makes the whole dining experience horrible. Although the restaurant looks pretty fancy but I recommend to spend your money elsewhere with better food n service

Last night, we went out for dinner at the Zalmhuis with 3 people. Unfortunately, the evening was marked by one disappointment after another. The arrival: Nice private parking lot, but asking €2.50 in advance, which you don't even get back, is ridiculous. Especially considering the entire surrounding area offers free parking. Upon entry: On the first floor, we were expertly ignored by both the wait staff and the kitchen staff for the first minute we stood there. I fully understand that they are busy with their work and that we cannot be served immediately, but a "good evening" would surely be the least one should expect. The waiter who served us was friendly and knew his trade; however, it felt a bit too artificial, and I heard the same charade at every table, causing the sincerity to vanish into thin air. After a fairly long wait, we were handed the menu, even though it wasn't busy yet. Taking the order was already a bit chaotic because one guest at our table wasn't actually ready for it yet, but it was decided to have it taken anyway. We had decided to order an oyster as well, but after that, things went wrong. The oyster remnants were cleared from the table, and then it remained quiet for over 50 minutes while the restaurant filled up with guests. After inquiring about the whereabouts of the starters, we received a sort of half-story from a colleague who had taken over our table as to why they hadn't arrived yet. There was something wrong with the handover, and he had only just checked it. Sorry, but you walk past our table the whole time without thinking, why haven't we had any food for all this time? I call that incompetent and certainly not attentive. Eventually, the starters arrived, and it turned out that one of the dishes was not the right one, which I was only able to point out after 5 minutes. When I reported this, no apology or excuse was offered, and I got the feeling it was my fault, but fortunately, everyone at the table heard what I ordered. Unfortunately, it took another 20 minutes before I actually received the correct starter, and by then everyone had finished eating; they could just watch me eat. The starter was actually quite edible, by the way, but the load of eggs used as garnish was, in my opinion, excessive and superfluous on sashimi. After the starter, we had to wait quite a long time for the main course again. A tiny piece of salmon (not even 100 grams) was served with it (almost €30), accompanied by a fried piece of lukewarm soft-shell crab and 5 pieces of sweet and sour cucumber at room temperature. The extra fries we ordered were as limp as a dishcloth and actually not tasty. You would expect that when you charge almost €6 for them, they would be freshly made instead of frozen, and at least not lukewarm and limp. After the main course, we were asked if we wanted dessert. We indicated that we had to leave in 30 minutes, whereupon the waiter himself stated that this was not an option, took the menu away, and presented the bill (which we had asked for ourselves). I did not understand the entertainment provided by a fire-breather/magician in a restaurant with such prices. The smell of the flammable substance ruins your taste buds. In short, it seems as though this restaurant has seen better days and the once-beautiful Zalmhuis is having trouble finding good staff or filling the restaurant. The prices are very high for the dishes, though the drinks are acceptable. To me, this falls under the category of faded glory. Unfortunately, we will never return here.

Unfortunately, a very bad experience. The waiter was not friendly at all and the service left much to be desired. Additionally, the food tasted sour, and the fries were cold and saltless. For the price you pay, you really expect much better. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back here anytime soon.

Nice activity for the children with a magician. Ideally located near De Kuip. Low parking costs. Atmospheric restaurant, though the music was a bit overpowering.

Had lunch and dinner here a couple of times and to be honest it was a little bit disappointing each time. I simply expect more here. It's pretty expensive, you even have to pay for parking. Also, it presents itself as a top class venue. Last visit, the food was average, nothing special, temperature of the food a little bit too low. Service was OK, but also nothing special, even a little bit on the slow side even though there very few guests. Will try again in due time.

We come here regularly, and every time it is a delight. The food is delicious, the location is beautiful, and the atmospheric decor makes it truly fairytale-like. The service is friendly and hospitable, ensuring you feel truly welcome. As the icing on the cake, there is an amazing magician on Friday evenings who makes the evening complete. A truly unique and fun addition to the experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a delicious meal in a beautiful location!

Beautiful building, good food though the size of the dishes should be increased. Today (25-sep-2024) I had the pokebowl tuna...that was bad, strange elements with smashed fish. Today (5-aug-2026) was perfect! Oysters, steak tartare, black cod, everything was good. Friendly staff.

The food tasted very good and was fresh. The service was quick and attentive once you are seated at the table, though we did have to wait for a while upon arrival. I thought the salmon was good, but on the small side. The meat was served on a hot plate; however, it wasn't even lukewarm, so it seemed to be more for presentation. Beautiful location and nice restaurant.

Sushi was good. The sirloin steak is served on a wobbly chafing dish. The slate underneath is cold, causing the meat to get cold immediately. Nice, but very impractical. The quality of the meat is good, though. Better served on a warm plate with some vegetables underneath.

We are sitting on comfortable chairs at a spacious table. Four-course menu. Smoked salmon as a starter. Then gazpacho. The main course is duck. Dessert is ice cream. We thought we were in a seafood restaurant... The service is friendly. Despite the fact that there are clearly too few staff members. My dining companion was bothered by the food all night. And she even passed the duck over to me. A pity.

Some people make a restaurant special, and Romae is the perfect example of that. Her genuine smile, warmth, and attention to every guest ensure that you feel seen and welcome. She does her work with so much passion that it makes your visit unforgettable. We return not only for the delicious food, but especially for Romae. She is the warm heart of this restaurant. Worth more than five stars! On Saturday, August 1, 2026, Romae will be back at the Zalmhuis.

I wanted to have coffee at 11, but the place turned out to be closed. It clearly said that it would be open at 11. Things aren't getting any better at the Zalmhuis (episode 7).

After previous pleasant visits, I found the lunch menu disappointing. The location is easy to reach by car, and the building and interior are beautiful.

Had a wonderfully pleasant high tea. It looks neat. The food tastes good. Friendly service. Something that could be improved was refilling the teapots and the toilet hygiene; I could smell the toilets upon entering..

High Tea, but you are better off taking a full package. Otherwise, you get more sweets instead of savory ones.

I was here as a guest for a wedding; the food was very good, the staff was very friendly, and everything was well organized. We will definitely come back to eat here again!

We reserved a table for dinner with friends on a weekday evening. The dishes and the service were as good as ever. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was convincingly ruined by a circus performer hired by the restaurant owner who felt it necessary to put on a fire-breathing show for a group behind us in the walkway near our table. The stench of chemicals and the heat of his antics were overwhelming. Our subtle indications that this was not appreciated were professionally ignored. Mind you, the outside temperature that evening was around 30°C.

Incredibly nice restaurant with delicious food. Only one major downside: no charging stations in the parking lot. I find that very annoying, since I eat there often, it is located in a very remote area, and there are no other charging stations nearby. With such a large parking lot and such a good restaurant, you would simply expect charging stations…

It's a shame you can only give 5 stars for service. Today I organized a baby shower for a friend who won Heel Holland Bakt (so expectations for the snacks were high, haha) and what incredibly good service (by Naomi from Het Zalmhuis). The wait staff worked sooooo hard. A very late request to have the high tea on the table already because we thought it looked nicer, arranged 8 minutes later. An HHB finalist had made a cake as a surprise, and they immediately came walking over with plates. Unbelievable, what service. Super thoughtful blue balloons on the table, table perfectly ready and set, un.be.be.to.be. It was truly 10 out of 10. If people are hesitating about holding their baby shower here, DO IT! The private room was a dream. It really needs very little. Own music, amazing. High tea itself was top-notch as always!

Lunch dish - 12 o'clock. Highly recommended. Just a full terrace with people all in conversation - cozy. Then don't turn the music up so loud.

What a beautiful location for a Sunday lunch. We were able to sit outside on the terrace. The downside is that you sit behind glass, so it can get very hot. The view is beautiful and the food was delicious. We were treated to a few tricks by a magician at our table. We would love to come back for high tea. A nice service would be to have the parking costs deducted from the bill when settling the bill.

Nice restaurant, mainly because of the location. We sat all the way at the back of the restaurant. The food was fine, really nothing special. The service, on the other hand, was really excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive. What was really a shame, though, is that there is a sort of cutlery area/bar at the back. When staff dry the cutlery, they keep throwing it into the bin. That constant sound of clinking cutlery makes it almost impossible to have a nice, normal conversation there. If you are sitting at the back, that is very disturbing. A fine restaurant, but not worth a repeat visit.

I was there last night with my family and my father to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary with 5 people. An exceptional welcome from our very charming Drag Queen and wow, what an atmosphere; truly unique to experience. Truly super sweet and helpful staff. We enjoyed a gastronomic evening with a compact menu, but everything was spot on, and we enjoyed the evening. There was also a personally written card with balloons placed on the table to give it an extra touch. I was also lucky enough to see a beautiful newlywed couple doing a photo shoot in the lobby; for those people reading this, I was blown away by your outfits, truly next level. Congratulations to you both. If you want to spend a little more on your culinary evening, this is highly recommended. The magician at the table was also a nice extra entertainment. Thank you very much for allowing us to be your guests, despite the severe weather of the evening that hit us on the way to the parking lot, but oh well, it's just water. It was all worth it, and my guests for the evening enjoyed themselves every single time.

Place Magnificent - Location and Architecture. I had Black Angus Burger as main dish it was Perfect, I didn't had better burger in Netherlands than here. Fries too crispy for my taste, for starters I had beef carpacio and that was even Better, combination and taste.. Perfection. Only thing I would like is better selection or explanation of drinks, as not drinking person they are too strong without taste. For example pinapple cocktail. Overall 5/5 Happily can Recommend

Had a particularly delicious meal at Het Zalmhuis today! The salmon was amazing, the tuna too, and the oysters delicious. I had never seen Tiramisu like this before and it was very tasty. Additionally, the service was attentive and extremely friendly. Worth repeating 👌

I went for high tea with my mother. All the treats were very tasty and there was a lot of variety. The only downside is that the fruit tasted a bit stale. Otherwise, the staff was really friendly, the atmosphere was nice, and the restaurant is very beautiful!

Terrible service, We came here with 5 ladies for my girlfriend's birthday. The restaurant is very beautiful inside and the location is nice too, but right from the start, it was our biggest disappointment… we had reserved for 7:30 PM, but we eventually had to wait until 8:00 PM for them to find a table for us. It took too long, so we asked again when we could sit down... as compensation, we were given a VIP table in a corner. We were able to order drinks immediately, but even our drinks didn't arrive until around 8:20 PM. We thought we could finally order and eat, but then it just started taking longer and longer before we could order. We received the menus for the food around 8:30 PM (we had to ask for these after they had brought our drinks, because it was taking too long), because we still couldn't order even after half an hour of finally being seated… we got the feeling that this was done deliberately, that they had placed us in a corner and didn't even pay attention to us anymore. We were very hungry and therefore made our choices quickly, but no one came to take our order; we had to keep asking when we could order. With every drink order, someone had to stand up and walk to the bar to call a server. Our food also arrived very late, so we had to ask a few times how much longer it would take. Because we had waited so long, it was too late to get up and leave. And that is why we decided to wait patiently. Our food arrived after 9:00 PM; it was almost 9:15 PM. When the food arrived, it was worse than the wait. The tacos were inedible... causing two ladies to get quite nauseous and even throw up their bites... the sushi was okay, but even that wasn't very tasty... Coming to desserts, we also had to wait a long time to order, and the desserts aren't worth ordering either... that was a disappointment too... around 10:45 PM we decided to leave and never come back here again. I don't recommend this place either; reading the reviews, I get the feeling that immigrants are treated and served poorly here, meaning we aren't welcome.... It's a shame, even though it is a nice place...

The Zalmhuis remains one of the most beautiful restaurants in Capelle/ Rotterdam. The view is gorgeous, the atmosphere is lovely, and our mocktail Pornstar Martinis made with alcohol free prosecco were delicious. That said, the rest of this visit was a bit disappointing. On a random Wednesday evening, we waited almost an hour for our food. My partner ordered the salmon without cucumber, but it arrived with cucumber anyway. We had also ordered sashimi to share and received sushi instead. The waitress was very nice and apologetic, but if you’re waiting that long, the order really needs to come out correctly. I’d rather you write down the order and have it be right than try to memorise it, and do so incorrectly. The food was okay. The raw fish was definitely the standout and tasted fresh, but some of the cooked elements were underwhelming and felt like they’d been sitting for a while before being served. For €75+ per person, I expect a little more attention to detail and a smoother experience. This wasn’t their strongest night.

The food was tasty but very expensive. The staff is the reason we will never return here. From paying for parking to opening an order incorrectly, late, or not at all… Coughing, sneezing, eating, and using phones instead of paying attention to the tables… And as the final straw, knocking over a glass onto my back, with the staff getting worked up about the shards and the costs instead of the guests… Inappropriate, unprofessional, unsociable, and impersonal…

It was our anniversary. The wedding ceremony had also been at the Zalmhuis. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. 3 mini hamburgers: the meat was very dry. My piece of sea bass was okay, but for 29 euros? We had ordered fries separately. They were lukewarm and soggy. They were also served in a cardboard container. We didn't dare order desserts anymore. We wanted the bill quickly. Unfortunately, the service during clearing and settling the bill made for an even worse experience. Nothing but commentary: Why my husband answered 'Yes, sure' (as if the food was good). Reacting with surprise and pulling a weird face because we weren't having dessert. When settling the bill, prejudices accompanied by commentary: "Oh, I know. You have a budget. (You see, we had a discount voucher). Yet you still have to pay extra! Next time, make room for dessert. Have a nice evening, see you next time." Well, there won't be a next time.

Truly a beautiful ambiance. The staff could barely keep up, drinks were very slow to arrive, but they were very friendly people. And we had a delicious chef's menu.

Desserts were very special and affordable, but a drinks or lunch platter for €45 was tasty but overpriced, and a glass of prosecco 0.0% for €6.95 was a sweet Crevino costing €4 a bottle in the shop with hardly any bubbles, so it had been open for way too long and was overpriced. But very friendly service and a top location outside on the terrace for a date.

We went out for dinner here today with 10 adults and 3 children to celebrate our anniversary. We had been looking forward to this evening immensely and really wanted to make it a beautiful, relaxed night. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. We sat down at the table at 5:30 PM because of the young children, but everything took an incredibly long time. It took a very long time for the drinks and starters to arrive, and we hoped the main course would follow sooner, but that also took an endless amount of time. Additionally, we practically had to beg to be allowed to order another drink. On an extremely hot day, you surely expect drinks to be served promptly at the very least. When the main course finally arrived, it turned out there was also an error in the order. As a result, one person had to wait much longer and could only eat when the rest of the party was already finished. Moreover, hot dishes were served before cold dishes, meaning no one could eat at the same time. Additionally, we had to ask for plates for the sushi ourselves, whereas you would expect this to be taken care of as standard. We also asked for extra fries, but they were never brought, yet we still had to pay in the end… At 8:00 PM, we finally decided not to order dessert, simply because the children couldn't hold out any longer and we were afraid we would have to wait an extremely long time again. I am genuinely hugely disappointed; I had expected so much from the Zalmhuis. This was an important evening for me and my partner, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a complete flop. Sadly, I cannot recommend it to anyone.

What a shame for a place that was once so nice. The new owner and the new concept have done the restaurant no good. The music is (too) loud, the food is pricey, and the service was unfriendly. We won't be going here anymore; it's a pity.

Zalmhuis is a prime location, especially the terrace; the food is of good quality. Portions aren't really big. You definitely pay for the history and location.

The food was fine, and the place was nice. The service, however, was very poor. There was little interest. We had to wait 30 minutes twice for drinks. The waiter didn't seem to care much and made no effort to come by in between.

We would like to thank the entire team at the Zalmhuis for providing a wonderfully delightful evening. They treated us to a fantastic night that our entire party can look back on with fond memories.

The soup was watery. The asparagus I had was very salty. I asked for a different one afterwards, but I got it just as salty again. I had to leave the food. The dessert was tasty, though.

The food was not tasty and very expensive for what you get. Portions are extremely small. The atmosphere was okay and the location was nice.

Mediocre experience. The food was OK but nothing special. The cocktails are tasty but expensive. The location isn't very nice either, as you can only get there by car because it is somewhat remote. All in all, mediocre and expensive.

After paying a 50 euro deposit upon making a reservation, we went to eat at the Zalmhuis last Sunday. The Carpaccio was average but pricey. The salmon/crab portion was very small but flavorful. I have had lunch there more often in the past, and that was certainly better.

Zalmhuis is a beautiful restaurant with a stunning riverside location. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, and the food is fresh and well-prepared, especially the seafood. Service is attentive and professional. Overall, a great place for a special meal with a view.

The food was fine in a beautiful location. The atmosphere was also good. The service was a bit disappointing. First, the reservation could not be forgotten, and then the discount applied in advance was not deducted at the checkout.

Great if you want to be ignored by the staff but still want to know if they are cheating, who has called in sick, and if Amber has cigarettes. In short, the staff are more preoccupied with each other than with the guests. And if you then also have to pay 150 for sushi with hard rice, the afternoon is complete. Only the chicken tacos were tasty. Insufficient to return again. A shame, because it looks nice inside, but that is about all there is to say.

Food average, music deafening, and I mean deafening, because I’m really not one to complain. When I inquired about the music, I was told by a member of the wait staff that this is simply the concept, and another told me that they just thought it was a good atmosphere and that there was a wedding taking place. No help finding a quieter table, nothing; very rude. A friendly waitress later immediately turned the music down; she also said that it was indeed very loud that day and really tried to help. Too bad, it was a 5-course dinner for a friend's birthday.

Very disappointed with our experience at Het Zalmhuis during my 21st birthday dinner. An evening that should have been special and festive was overshadowed by poor service. The staff came across as uninterested, we had to wait a long time, and there was no proper attention to our table or requests. On such an important evening, you expect attention, hospitality, and good organization, but unfortunately, that is not how we experienced it. It is a real shame, because this made the entire experience disappointing.

Had lunch with partner on the birthday. The birthday person eats for free. We had a very nice time at this beautiful location. The food was delicious!

Unfortunately, I have never been treated so unkindly by a single waitress. Probably because we had used the birthday discount. It ruined our mood for the whole day, because it is incomprehensible that you can treat guests like that. If people don't support such actions, then don't do it. It is a nice place to take photos, which was actually the main reason for our visit. But too bad… there wasn't a smile left in our photos.

What a shadow of its former glory... a shame for such a beautiful place, been there twice in a few weeks. The first time I ordered bread with spreads... it arrived too late and in a great rush, but wasn't baked properly... sent it back immediately... no other option was offered... just "I will take it off the bill"... well, I could have done that myself. Second chance... even worse: first you get a table right in front of the terrace door... I had to hold the items on the table to keep them from blowing away... moved to another table where the cutlery and glasses were stuck to the tabletop, my knife was downright filthy, the waiter asks which knife he needs to replace?? I say just replace everything. Not that crazy, right? A girl comes over and asks what I want to drink... white wine, what do you have? A Chardonnay, a Pinot Noir, or Sauvignon Blanc... when asked which Chardonnay? A French or Chilean one! Oh okay, let's taste... I say, "Well, it's not really a 'Bernardus'," then comes... "Oh, but we have that one too!" The 5-course surprise menu: starter salmon carpaccio with such high acidity that I thought the chef had had a fight at home. Courgette soup delicious! Tuna tartare high acidity again; main course red snapper (super good) with asparagus that were undercooked. With a sauce. When asked what kind of sauce it was... a delicious sauce... ?!? The dessert: it is mango... oh, and that? I thought vanilla ice cream... was lemon ice cream; once again the chef was in a sour mood while making the dessert. The ambiance... it could really use a vacuuming... all in all a bit sad.

The food is okay, but the decor could use more attention. The drag queen added nothing, just like the singer's "spontaneous" performances. Try to avoid the spot next to the walkway due to the waitstaff taking sharp turns and a cold wind.

Remains an iconic location, service is okay, but the portioning is scandalous. The steak tartare from the lunch menu is a sort of amuse-bouche/bite that I struggled to divide into three bites. And that for 16 euros. The beautiful location simply doesn't make up for that.

Visited here for the first time on the recommendation of a friend. We really enjoyed the delicious food all evening and the lovely ambiance. The plates were beautifully presented and the quality was also quite good. The staff could be coordinated a bit better regarding taking orders incorrectly. And asking the same thing twice in a row. The high tea was well taken care of. Very tasty too. It was a pity, though, that the staff no longer paid attention to us to refill our tea. After the high tea was served, the service stopped. We found that disappointing. Otherwise, everything was perfectly fine.

The food was tasty, but waiting over 1.5 hours for a starter is truly too absurd for words. I repeat: 100 minutes. I waited over 2 hours from the moment of arrival until the main course. Again, the food was good, but the organization was extremely poor. I have never experienced anything like this. This also affects the dining experience and ambiance.

Had a nice meal once. But it's part of Hell's Kitchen, so then you get a whole lot of unsolicited spam again. Because this group doesn't care about customer privacy or Dutch law. Too bad!
