The food was awful and our waiter provided poor service. Went to pay the bill and the waiter kept asking for a tip of 10%, when we politely declined due to the poor experience he kept insisting and would not close the bill until we added a 10% tip.

A 'nice' restaurant near to where we were staying. Food ok and prices reasonable for this area. Staff friendly.

I proprietari sono super gentili e ti fanno sentire subito benvenuto. Abbiamo mangiato una pizza preparata con una ricetta di famiglia ed era davvero deliziosa, fresca e piena di sapore. Abbiamo anche preso un Aperol Spritz, che si abbinava perfettamente al piatto. L'atmosfera è calda e accogliente, e si vede che mettono tanto impegno in ogni dettaglio. Lo consiglio vivamente se siete in zona. I proprietari rendono l'esperienza davvero speciale e non vedo l'ora di tornarci!

Terrible experience, would NOT recommend. Would have given 0 stars if I could. Initially, we were just looking at the menu, when the 'owner/manager' greeted us and persuaded us to dine in. Once seated, he then put on a 'overly charming' act to try and trick us into ordering more food than we wanted; which we declined on numerous occasions. Whilst we were waiting for our food, he decided to bring over three dishes consisting of garlic bread and mozzarella & tomato. We did NOT order this. We questioned why he brought this over and he acted as if it were "complementary". We weren't sure of his intentions so didn't eat it at first and waited for our food. He then came over and asked why we weren't eating it and avoided giving us our food until we made a start. He eventually brought our food over which was okay but lacked flavour and had too much cheese. This overpowered the dish. Once finished we asked for the bill and noticed he added the "complementary" dishes on, which we questioned but had no response. When it came to payment he tried to say that the card machine was broken and that we needed to get cash out. We said that we didn't have any cash and that it wasn't possible for us to use the cash machine. We asked if there was another way we could pay using our cards. His whole demeanour changed and he started to become more rude and aggressive in the way he was talking to us. The head chef them came out and then after having a word with the owner/manager, the card machine miraculously began to work. Just needed to be plugged in and held in a certain way. We asked to split the bill in 5 and then the manager/owner started to become rude again. The head chef (who probably could have been the owner) took over and split the bill in 5 and we were able to pay using our own cards. This whole experience was unnecessary and could have been resolved a lot quicker. After all of this, the manager/owner went into the kitchen to get his own food and then had the audacity to try and offer us some. We left the restaurant immediately before he tried to charge us for that as well.

If you are looking for a welcoming and perfect place for a family dinner, this is the right place! I went there with my family and we really felt at home. The owners are super nice and make you feel welcome straight away. We ate a pizza made from a family recipe and it was really delicious, fresh and full of flavour. We also got an Aperol Spritz, which paired perfectly with the dish. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and you can tell they put a lot of effort into every detail. I highly recommend it if you are in the area. The owners make the experience truly special and I can't wait to go back!

Don’t go here they try and rip you off. When paying the bill he increases prices and says he had given us old menu. He then tried to add service charge and charge for ketchups which non of which were listed on the bill. He tries to get you to tap card without showing you card reader. Con artist at his best

Nos preguntamos por qué era así y el propietario dijo que los menús eran antiguos y los precios se habían actualizado. Fue bastante ignorante y abrupto con sus respuestas, lo que es una pena porque la comida en sí era bastante agradable. Desafortunadamente en una base de servicio al cliente no volveré a visitar aquí de nuevo.

A horrible place, bland pizzas with products of dubious origin, plain bag salads at a gold price, cola at €6 a glass... zero preparation and disastrous treatment... never to be repeated again.

Very pleasant experience where we spoke with the chef and boss before the opera! Real Italian pizza bases and my group said the pasta was very tasty.

Delicious food and very good and nice service

The welcome is friendly. The setting is a bit ordinary but pleasant. The tables are well arranged and you feel comfortable there. The service is efficient and friendly and the dishes are good, which doesn't spoil anything. A special mention to the meat which is excellent and the cooking required. Finally the bill is very correct, even for Amsterdam.

Family Restaurant - After reading some mixed reviews I was a little skeptical, but I'm extremely glad I gave this family business a try. From the moment you step in, you feel the warmth and hospitality of the family that runs this restaurant. They are friendly, attentive and clearly passionate about what they do. And then the food... absolutely fantastic! The pasta melts in your tongue and the sauces are packed with flavor. Dessert – a tiramisu that will keep you coming back – was the perfect end to a wonderful evening. Don't be fooled by negative reviews; this restaurant deserves a place on your favorites list! Some weeks ago I was having food here with some friends and I saw two people being harassed by the manager. They just wanted to wash their hands in the bathroom, I heard them say. The manager started harassing them because he wanted to charge them way too much money for using the bathroom and he got physical with them. He put his hands on both a girl and a guy. I was eating here but was very afraid because of this. We paid and left. The food was terrible but I was afraid to say anything because the manager was so aggressive towards these other people before. Never go here, unless you support violence

The price of the menu compared to what they charged us had nothing to do with it (e.g. water menu €3, time of collection €7). They also charged €20 more for table service, which is normal table service. Not happy with that, they give you the excuse that you can't pay by card... The quality of the food is poor. Recommendation: DO NOT GO even if you are invited!

DO NOT ENTER—We felt harassed by the staff! I visited this place with a friend, and from the start, something felt off. The server, an older man around 60, didn’t greet us at all. My friend went to wash her hands in the restroom. When we noticed him behaving rude to others too, we felt uncomfortable and decided to leave, as we hadn’t ordered anything yet. As we were heading out, the man suddenly yelled at us, insisting we’d left something behind, and pointed at the floor. Once we walked back in, he shut the door and demanded that we pay for using the restroom, even though all we’d done was wash our hands. When we agreed to pay, he insisted on charging us more than the 2 euros listed on the restroom sign and even called me “stupid.” This was the point where we decided to leave, but as we tried to walk out, he stepped in our way and pulled me backward, making me lose balance. He then asked someone else from the kitchen to watch us, while he blocked the way out for us. After we paid, he finally let us go, but I have never felt so unsafe in my own country. If you’re considering this place, please be cautious. It was a very unsettling experience, and I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through something similar!

My husband tried the osso buco, a slow-cooked veal that was incredibly tender and flavorful—he couldn’t stop raving about it! Each bite tasted authentically Italian, with ingredients that felt fresh and high-quality. We ended the meal with their homemade panna cotta, a dessert so light and silky that it was the perfect finish. San Giovanni isn’t just a meal; it’s an experience crafted by a couple who pour heart and soul into every detail. If you’re after authentic Italian flavors and genuine hospitality, San Giovanni should be at the top of your list. Highly recommend!

Don’t go to this place! Very expensive. The manager charges you for extra things at the end. If you complain he will start to be angry and shout in very scary way. The way of his look and the way of him talking changes to a psycho. I won’t feel safe to go back to this restaurant!

Soup and tortellini quite bland in taste. Dessert cassata nicely served. Friendly and correct waiter. Julio Iglesias in the background also made up for a lot. Furthermore, the place is not very busy.

cards were not accepted because of "damaged" reader without a proper prior notice like "cash only", have to go outside to withdraw the cash with 3 EUR commission from non-network ATM outside.

It's hard finding something good to say about the experience I had. The server was really weird, like uncomfortable. The drink I had was just straight up the wrong one, the pizza my boyfriend got was just a sea of grease. The salad I ordered had burnt chicken and zero dressing, besides the olive oil that's on the table. The prize is completely ridiculous, we payed over 50 euros for two drinks, one pizza and a small chicken salad without dressing.

Stopped in for something to drink and a toilet visit early in the day / breakfast. A dirtier toilet will take you a long time to find. (How is the kitchen..?) We paid and went somewhere else.

Food is delicious. I was there with my family and everyone ordered something different, so.. pastas are 5 stars. Pizza is big. And salads didn't take a lot of effort to do, I guess. Tuna salad has just canned tuna. And everything was in layers. Service: just one waiter. Was a little difficult to understand with. Affordable place,I must say.

The place is not ugly, calm atmosphere, some cure deco. However the food is very expensive for what they offer; 6,75€ for a minestrone soup that was in reality very salty hot water with hardly any vegetable inside. Mug size. The meatballs were well seasoned but lacked some real meat. Service is not very friendly, giving short answers and no smiles. I’ve had a bad experience overall.

I had spareribs, and my friend had grilled pork, both with fries and salad, one cocktail, and 2 small glasses of wine. Everything was cooked well and very tasty. Prices seem reasonable for this area. The owners (?) were friendly and hospitable. We sat on the patio.

I came with a friend and we got a pizza to split and I ordered a coke. When ordering the man was not very nice when we asked if we could split, expecting us to order more even though the rest of the restaurant was empty. Everything was fine and the food was okay but then we went up to pay because we had been sitting waiting for the check. I saw that he charged €6 for the coke that said €3,25 on the menu and €12,50 for the margarita pizza that said €10,50 on the menu. When I asked him about the coke, he said that it was the large coke and that was why it was €6 even though there were no size options/different prices on the menu. Basically mediocre food that is way more expensive than the prices on the menu.

Salami pizza was salty and this can be shared between 2 to 3 people, unless you're very hungry then go ahead to order one for yourself. Desserts tiramisu and vanilla ice-cream was very sweet but I think ice-cream was slightly better. Not the best tasting food but it is rather filling and within budget.

We kwamen binnen en werden hartelijk verwelkomt, we kregen snel het eten wat erg lekker was en een flinke portie voor de prijs. Verder was er goede klantvriendelijkheid en werd ons een foto aangeboden wc was goed, heerlijke avond dus!

Quiet, uncluttered restaurant. Accessible and clean. My pizza was superb. Egg with spinach, but not just thrown together. It was a creamy yet fresh mixture on a crispy Italian handmade base, just like a kind of lasagna ingredient that went together beautifully without any sogginess. Service is excellent, friendly and the acoustics are nice. It is also not too expensive.

I do not recommend it. We stopped at this place on the way to our hotel because one person in our group had to go to the bathroom urgently, and we thought that it would be a good option to have dinner there, also taking into account that we had just come from spending the afternoon in a coffeeshop ... there was hunger, I assure you. Honestly, if it wasn't because we came "in such a way" we would have gotten up and left when we saw the first dishes we ordered. Biterballen and assortment of croquettes/fried foods obviously frozen from the fifth division, also over-fried (it was obvious that the oil had not been added that day). We ordered bitterballen for every lunch and dinner on our trip to Amsterdam and these were without a doubt the worst by far. And the Pizzas, well, the lot, the bad lot. Mine was cheese and nothing more, plus the dough was raw in the middle, like the others we ordered. There is only one man in the kitchen and one lady at the bar serving tables, so service is also slow. In a hurry, well, he did the trick for us, but we would not return nor do we recommend it. The men's services are very dirty, too.

Terrible service. Nachos that aren't nachos. They're Doritos cookies with ketchup. I have pictures. I wanted to have dinner, but besides that, the restaurant still offers terrible service, it wasn't possible. I preferred to get up and leave.

Good and rich noodles. The soda, they offered us a big size (which I didn't see on the menu) and it cost us 6 euros per big size glass (and it was a normal large glass). In hard rock the same glass costs 5.5 and is free refill...just for reference.

Very good restaurant! Clear recommendation! We had pizza and tortellini and were pleasantly surprised. The service was very nice, I think it was the boss. The portions are large and what particularly surprised me were the drinks, which were large (0.5l) and comparatively cheap. Elsewhere you usually only get small drinks (0.2) and pay twice as much. So it was very tasty, cheap, not crowded and for once as a tourist you didn't feel like you were being ripped off. Thank you very much!

We chose this restaurant as an emergency solution when we were wandering around Christmas Amsterdam looking for a place to have dinner. And I think this solution was the best that could have happened to us. Excellent and funny service, excellent food, great wine. Nothing was a problem and everything really tasted great. If you happen to be passing by, don't hesitate to stop here. Tutto perfetto!

Wraz ze znajomymi trafiliśmy na restauracje z ulicy. Przeglądając menu na zewnątrz obsługa zaprosiła nas do środka. Zamówiłem z dziewczyną pizze i zupe pomidorową, mała pizza delikatnie ostra, i smaczna szkoda, ze nie mozna wybrać rozmiaru pizzy, a zupa ok. Osobiście polecam tu zjeść, całkiem przyjemne miejsce ale wydaje mi się, że ceny mogłyby być troszeczkę niższe. 😁

Hoge nood is hoge nood. Vriendelijk gevraagd of ik even naar de wc mocht. Werd verwezen naar de hoek. Mooie kleine wc dat wel. Goede urinoir. Handen gewassen en langs de dame achter de kassa. ‘Dat is dan 2 euro’. Oké. Afgerekend en weg. Met zo’n gastvrijheid vergaat de drang om er ook te eten of te drinken. Te duur om het daarna te lozen.

Why do they think they serve an Italian cuisune? I guess the owner has never been to Italy. I did not like the place and food. The waiter brough me wrong salad, the pizza was not sliced into pieces, they did not provide plates for pizza.

Zentral gelegen in der Innenstadt von Amsterdam. Das Essen kam sehr schnell und war mit 12€ (Pasta Carbonara) auch preislich in Ordnung. Ein Softdrink 0,4 L war mit 6€ etwas hoch berechnet. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und kompetent. Es sind genügend Plätze drinnen und draußen vorhanden. Die Toiletten waren sehr dreckig. Das geht gar nicht und sollte unbedingt geändert werden!!

Wir waren sehr zufrieden mit dem Essen und dem Service. Es ist ein einfaches, aber persönlich geführtes Restaurant. Wir wurden sehr nett bedient.
