Great lunch experience, tried the date menu and were very pleased by the quality of the food and the service of the staff.

You could easily walk right past it, but don't!!!! Had a delicious meal at Shin, took the 8-course dinner and everything was really top-notch. Good, fast, and attentive service. Definitely a place you will come back to!

Kind staff, modern open chicken concept. The sakura matcha looked beautiful but I didn’t taste much strawberry. The salmon was tasty! Takoyaki and rice with furikake okay.

We had a wonderful meal at SHIN! The 8-course menu for two is truly amazing. Great variety and delicious flavors. The A5 wagyu was obviously very tasty, but the tuna carpaccio, scallops, and other dishes were certainly just as good. Highly recommended.

Had a great time, the sake sample set was a lot of fun to taste 5 different types of sake. Food & service were definitely reminiscent of restaurants I ate at in Japan! Would recommend if you like quality Japanese cuisine.

GLUTEN FREE!! Amazing gluten free dinner here tonight. Limited options if you are coeliac or cannot tolerate any gluten at all, but they could make the Wagu, scallops, miso salmon and veggie dish all with gluten free soy sauce. Careful to avoid cross contamination. Food was excellent, very fresh Service was 10/10 Also very cool vibe inside with traditional Japanese seating. Highly recommend!

I went to Japanese restaurant SHIN with absolutely no expectations but was blown away by the superb quality of the food and hospitality! The restaurant shows simplicity in decorations but is gives a solid Japanese feeling. I had chosen to try a lot of different items of the menu card. But there is a great variety of pre-set menu's which are affordable and give sufficient variety in Japanese dishes!

A real asset to Rotterdam. This Japanese surprise is situated in a somewhat unremarkable spot that you might easily walk right past. We had a delicious meal; refined dishes served on beautiful tableware by extremely friendly and polite staff—what a breath of fresh air. We chose the 5-course menu, which was more than enough for two ladies. The chefs are Japanese. The virgin cocktails are highly recommended; they are very delicate and served in a beautiful glass.

I loved the food. All of them are separately delicious. I really enjoyed the wagyu beef and Japanese fried chicken.

We stopped by for a quick dessert since they were about to close, and it was a great decision to stay! Yum!

We had a very nice Omakase dinner and the chef explained us all the plates in a very welcoming and caring ambience. I am very happy I chose for my anniversary with my wife.

Tasty food and a nice atmosphere. They also have a very nice interior and the staff is friendly. It is a bit on the expensive side, though. The price-quality ratio of the food is a bit low. The portions are small. The matcha is very good.

SHIN had a lovely atmosphere, nice staff, and good flavors! We chose the date menu, and with every dish, we looked at each other in wonder. Flavors and textures you can completely lose yourself in. The portions on the date menu were just a little too small for us, so my advice is to order something extra. Tasty mocktails and a fun menu that doesn't take itself too seriously. The staff was very friendly, but couldn't always explain exactly what we were going to eat, meaning we had to figure out what it was ourselves. They also spoke very softly, and because it was quite full, it was sometimes difficult to understand. The atmosphere was cozy and pleasant, with a cheerful layout. If you prefer quantity over quality, this isn't the place for you. But if you want to experience unique combinations and refined flavors, SHIN is the place to be.

In one word: amazing! Everything was super tasty, but the bluefin tuna and the wagyu in particular were next level; they just melt on your tongue. Definitely recommended if you want to eat something special. One of the owners was there too and made the most delicious lychee martini upon request. He was also super friendly and spoke with great enthusiasm about SHIN. Additionally, the staff is incredibly friendly and professional, which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. We will be back soon!

-Saturday, April 4, 2026- This was my second time at Shin! I came back because of the relaxed atmosphere, the delicious food, and the mocktails, and that was a good choice again. ⭐ Highlights: the Sakura Hanafubuki mocktail, the Agedashi Tofu (definitely a dish to share given its size), and the Tuna Carpaccio, which I also had last time and was therefore worth repeating.

Delicious food, also for vegetarians. Sweet and good staff. Every visitor is greeted exuberantly in Japanese from the open kitchen upon arrival and when leaving. The furniture is terribly uncomfortable if you are taller than 1.7 meters. The price-quality ratio is poor. These last two factors mean that, despite the tasty food, we will not be returning anytime soon. Perhaps the price-quality ratio is better if you order a set menu rather than à la carte. But for vegetarians, that is not an option.

A smaller but inviting restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. With no pressure to hurry, we enjoyed a few hours eating, drinking and catching up. The food is delicious and we ordered a few dishes each as the portions are on the smaller side. Price was just over €100 which is not bad for 2 people spending around 3 hours there. Highly recommend.

Excellent food. We had the 4-course menu (as part of the restaurant week). The food was of high quality and well thought out. Really good vegetarian options as well. Each course was explained by well trained staff that also ensured good service throughout the night. Great cocktails too.

Very cool, authentic experience. The food is simple and yet unexpected. Most dishes are shareable. The menu is relatively short and well curated. Prices are on a higher side. It was very busy on a Friday night, you need a reservation.

Excellent staff and dining experience. I am a regular, and today I attended the Matcha Workshop. It was simply a wonderful experience to taste the earthly flavors of authentic Japanese tea, and the rituals of making it. My favorite tea is Hojicha, and I will be back soon to experience more of it 🙏

We ate at Shin for the third time today, and it was a real treat again. The Japanese food is so delicious, and everything is made with great care; you can simply taste that attention went into it. The atmosphere is also very nice and cozy. The staff is super sweet, attentive, and makes sure you feel welcome right away. The cocktails are also highly recommended! Perfect for making the evening complete. In short: we had another wonderful evening. This is truly one of those places we love to keep coming back to.

Probably the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Rotterdam, with some real nice izakaya-style snackies and a good selection of sake and cocktails. The staff are also super-friendly, and it's always fun to speak Japanese with them. Reservations recommended for weekend evenings.

We visited this restaurant for my partner’s birthday dinner. Having been born and raised in Japan, I naturally have high expectations when it comes to places that offer Japanese flavors and hospitality. However, this experience exceeded all of those expectations in the best possible way. It truly surprised me in a very good sense. Each dish was carefully crafted, and everything was perfect from the flavors to the aromas, temperature, and balance of textures. The presentation was absolutely beautiful, making every course a pleasure not only to taste but also to look at. What impressed me just as much was the warmth of the service. The staff were genuinely friendly while maintaining thoughtful attention to detail throughout the evening. They created a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere that made our special night even more memorable. Celebrated my birthday with my partner at SHIN tonight and we had a wonderful experience! 🥰 We tried the couple menu and everything was perfect from the food, the authenticity of Japanese flavours and the service. And while you’re at it, definitely try one of their cocktails. The range of options is really diverse and perfects traditional cocktails with a little Japanese touch. A special thanks to Yuki and Yuki who made this moment even more memorable with their warm welcome and kindness throughout the dinner. So if you’re looking for a true Japanese experience or would like to share a special moment with someone dear, SHIN is the ideal place to do so!

The food and the matcha were delicious. We had the date menu but had to order more because we were still hungry, and I was still hungry at home, so the portions were too small/not filling for me, despite the hefty bill. We were somewhat overlooked; we had to actively ask for our order, and no one asked if we wanted anything else to drink, the bill, or anything else.

This place is a 1000/10! We always have such a great time here. The atmosphere is great and relaxed; you're not rushed, and you can enjoy the whole evening. The staff is super attentive, friendly, and works incredibly hard! The food is truly amazing, and the cocktails are also fantastic. When we go here, we sit for hours! We love it!

My first time having an omakase experience and I'm so happy I had it at Shin. The service was 10/10. Didn't even have to ask if I could order another drink, the server was super sharp! The chef was kind and passionate making the evening wonderful. Food and drinks where also 10/10. After dinner we had a short conversation with the chef where, again, he was so passionate about the food and restaurant. Had a great experience and I think you're missing out if you haven't eaten at Shin yet!

Excellent flavors in a rustic, trendy setting. We had the Amex menu and ordered Karachi chicken. This was also listed on the menu as part of the "mixed starters" but wasn't mentioned when we ordered the Karachi. I found it pricey; I wouldn't eat there without an Amex deal. The staff was otherwise friendly.

The food was nothing shy from amazing! We ordered the recommended “date menu” a set of sharing dishes that come one after another with some lovely time in between to savour the flavours of, indeed, authentic Japan. You can really tell that a lot of love goes into the dishes and that all the ingredients are fresh and carefully chosen. The staff was also lovely and could recommend the best cocktails. All in all, can’t wait to visit you again!

As a true Dutch family with a new "Japanese family member" and unfamiliar with Japanese culture and food customs, we wanted to delve deeper into Japanese culture, hence our choice for SHIN. Despite the initial skepticism of our Japanese guest, we were surprised throughout the evening by dishes and flavors unfamiliar to us Dutch, partly thanks to our Japanese guest. We Dutch were pleasantly surprised from the start, and our Japanese guest's initial skepticism quickly turned into enthusiasm to introduce us to his world with what the restaurant had to offer. This led to a surprisingly pleasant experience and introduction to Japanese cuisine, in which we Dutch unknowingly transcended our limited ideas about discovering new horizons.

This place is truly fantastic! I've been there three times now, and each time has been excellent. The food is authentic Japanese and very delicious. Both the dishes on the menu and the off-menu dishes, which are described on a board on the wall, have been excellent. The price-quality ratio is also excellent. It's also great that they have a wide variety of sakes; you can pair them with the dishes, or you can do a sake tasting where you get a few small glasses. All in all, highly recommended!

Food was amazing!!! Ordered the ceviche, scallop, rice with beef, vegetables and the affogato. All items were of high quality, fresh and delicious. Service was impeccable and I absolutely loved my experience there! Highly recommend and looking forward to going back again.

For Christmas eve dinner my bf and I tried Shin, we found it via the Fork website. From the pictures it looked cozy and staff etiquette did not disappoint. I left the restaurant like I was saying goodbye to friends! It’s rare these days to have customer service really on point but this was really special. The food great and cooked to perfection with lots of lovely flavours!

Don't be put off if you walk past and it looks a bit less inviting, because this is typically Japanese: less is more. The staff is super friendly and the food is very good and fresh. The flavors are delicious, and the fried chicken BBQ is highly recommended. As you leave, the whole place wishes you a pleasant evening in Japanese. That's so nice!

Came here last week to get a Matcha latte to go with a friend and found our experience quite good, but the latte left quite a bit to be desired. As a tea enthousiast (not just Matcha), I am real happy to see that The Netherlands is finally catching up to the international tea and coffee standards. I saved this restaurant as to try their food, but sadly didn't get a chance to do that yet. This review is soly based on their matcha quality and prep. My friend and myself both ordered a matcha latte with normal milk and a touch of sweetener. (They use brown sugar syrup) I asked the staff what temperature they used for the water and both replied something else to me. Long story short- anything between 75° and 85° celsius. Which if you love your teas, you'll know that is a big difference. And if make your own matcha's at home, you know that 75° might actually be on the low side for some brands/tea leaves. Secondly I asked how many grams of powder they use in a latte, to which they replied: about 2.5 to 3 grams. Personally for me, anything below 4 grams isn't really a latte, especially with cow milk. The latte itself tasted like sweeneted milk with a touch of green. The matcha flavour didn't shine through and both staff seemed inexperienced about their standards. I do have to mention though that the staff are lovely, the restaurant looks beautiful and very aesthetically pleasing and you get greeted when you come in. I would love to come back here and try their food, but I'll continue to make my own latte's at home.

A fantastic, top-notch experience. The genuinely engaged staff welcomes everyone upon arrival and says goodbye upon departure. In Japanese, of course. A wide selection of food and drinks. Delicious beer on tap and more drinks than you can imagine. We sat at the bar, a spacious area with comfortable chairs, and watched the two cheerful young bartenders select a selection of drinks. Perhaps something to come back for. We tackled a few appetizers (see photo). The cucumbers, octopus balls, BBQ karage chicken, and taco shrimp were irresistible. As a bonus, the mini Brussels sprouts with mushrooms and tuna cappachino were also quite tasty. All in all, a wonderful dining adventure and an experience to look back on fondly.

Shin is refreshing different. A nice selection of drinks and cocktails. The service and atmosphere are nice and welcoming. The food is quality. Some items didn't hit (e. g. eggplant/bamboo shoot, waygu, etc). I would have liked to see tempora or cold noodles on the menu. In the end it is a bit pricy and still don't fill too full. I would recommend Shin for their matcha selection and to orient yourself to their menu first before dropping too much cash.

We ordered the takoyaki, salmon and the rice bowls. Service was very friendly! The eel rice bowl was delicious, although the rice was too wet for the beef bowl. Mostly the salmon was disappointing. It consisted of basic ingredients and just really felt like something I could make myself, but better. The overall price felt too high, but I guess everything does nowadays.

It exceeded expectation. The restaurant has a causal vibe but do not let that fool you. The food is of Michelin star quality as is the staff. There were only positives and will happily return.

Came here on the whim and was pleasantly surprised at the excellent service and high quality food. My husband and I tried several of the appetisers and two different rice dishes. The off menu tuna rice bowl and the on menu unagi rice bowl were delicious. We could have eaten several of these rice bowls. The scallops were so, so good. This is now going to be my default go-to restaurant when I am craving Japanese flavours.

I discovered Shin two years ago with my then 12 years old daughter: we instantly loved it! I went again yesterday with a friend and loved it more. I am a big fun of Japanese food, I often go to Japanese restaurants, and I cook it at home. This place is authentic, wonderful, with original and delicious food; the vibe is industrial, yet warm, you could be in London or NY; the staff is polite and efficient. The cocktails /mocktails are incredible. I even liked the matcha desserts, and I am not a big fond of matcha! Highly recommended.

Went here for the first time tonight and it’s our new favorite restaurant in Rotterdam (or even the Netherlands) Very friendly staff that explain everything, are helpful and joyful. Food is great! Unagi don was amazing. Boyfriend almost cried a little. Great dashi, freshest seaweed and plum salad. Great selection of drinks too. Very happy with the full experience!

We had a wonderful meal at SHIN. The staff is very friendly, and it's nice that everyone shouts "いらっしゃいませ!" when you walk in (Welcome!!!). The flavors are all delicious. We were most surprised by the crispy taco with tofu, karage, salmon with miso, the Wagyu, tuna, and not to forget the dessert: an assorted selection of delicious Japanese desserts. But everything else we ordered was also simply delicious. It was nice that there was an explanation with each dish. We will definitely be back! ごちそうさまでした!

I would like to glorify this marvelous Japanese restaurant & matcha café, with cozy and welcoming atmosphere which I visited with my friend on friday afternoon (10.10.). I have tried many matchas — from the ones tasting like grass, swamp-green looking, promising you worries about your health instead of boosting it, white as porcelain where the matcha component was perhaps as small as the protozoa, to toxic viridescent which only evoked fear of poisoning. And then I came across this place. In the heart of this dutch Gateway to Europe, a hidden gem in those shop filled narrow streets. I was blessed. Physically, emotionally and eternally. If my soul had to suffer all the things this planet has brought, this discovery was definitely a reward. The taste is deliciously bitter and the green is almost like the mystical moss fairies would build houses from. Creamy, foamy, godsend for all your senses. However, if the taste & appearance wouldn’t please me, the sight of an employee surely would. Employing people so hot that even my coffee addict friend, who happily chooses death over any slightest encounter with the mentioned Japanese tea, would buy a cup of matcha is definitely a win-win. Great profit. I really appreciate the business skills. Overall, the staff was nice (fine) and if I’ll ever visit Rotterdam again, I’ll definitely stop by. P.S. call me, you’re a cute hotie

What a fantastic restaurant! Incredibly friendly service and delicious food. It's a bit pricey, but absolutely worth it considering the use of fresh, unique ingredients. Perfect if you have something to celebrate!

Super tasty food and very nice staff! Only downside is that the chairs are a bit low, very authentic of course but not ideal for a Dutch height. Still it is definitely worth it!
