Super tasty food and very nice staff! Only downside is that the chairs are a bit low, very authentic of course but not ideal for a Dutch height. Still it is definitely worth it!

Walked by a few times. We went with two. Interior is playful and accessible. Not very complex. But the food, was really phenomenal. We had chefs menu, every dish was very tasty. Complex but still smooth flavors. Number 1 the Wagyu and scallops. buttery soft. Very attentive service. Definitely coming back.

This...was ridiculously delicious food. Gobbling is not allowed here, the taste of everything just forces you to eat slowly and enjoy it to the fullest. I devoured every bite with my eyes closed, so as not to miss any of the flavors, and the Jabara sake was something to fall in love with.

Delicious, real Japanese food. We went for the “Chef’s choice” and have absolutely no regrets. It’s worth it. Clearly not an “all you can eat” place (no offense, it can be quite tasty too), but with carefully selected flavors, superior ingredients, and surprising combinations. The service is good, the atmosphere was okay, but a Japanese toilet would have made it perfect. Doesn’t change the fact that it was clean, though!

I visited Shin in Rotterdam for a traditional Japanese lunch with my cousin, hoping to relive a bit of our time in Japan — and it absolutely delivered! The experience took me right back: honest, high-quality food that was beautifully presented and full of soul. It’s such a joy to see the depth of Japanese cuisine represented beyond the usual sushi and sashimi. Shin captures that understated elegance and care that makes Japanese food truly special. It made me genuinely happy. A true gem, that’s what Shin is!

A lovely first experience with the Japanese cuisine. The atmosphere was calm and inviting, the team was super friendly, and I really loved the Japanese style and menu.

Had the 5 course chefs surprise 🫢 very nice, varied and perfect for the indecisive. Tasty drinks too, we arrived at the end of happy hour.

We wanted to drink coffee and eat cake in the restaurant. The employees are super nice. However, the performance is very marginal for what you get for the price. We got a mochi sundae that looked relatively large in the photo. On the table we received a total of a scoop of vanilla ice cream and 1 scoop of mochi ice cream, with a few pieces of fruit and cream. It's nothing for the incredibly high price you paid. We also got a cake and 2 coffees, which were just as marginal for the price. We had to specifically ask for milk and sugar for the coffee. They brought us 1 small pack of sugar for 2 coffees, which is somehow questionable and, in my opinion, does not indicate good service. Overall it tasted okay, but the price-performance ratio is very poor. As I said, the employees were very nice.

Delicious as a snack. We had takoyaki, karaage and soy beans and they were well made. We have been to Japan ourselves and the quality was comparable. I showed another drink I had in Japan and the owner tried to recreate it especially for me. As a result, the service has been optimal for me.

The food is amazing and the service is excellent. We did the five course meal and everything was perfect.

At SHIN you can eat really, really, really good. Each dish is refined, with a beautiful balance of flavors. With everything you can just taste that the ingredients are fresh and genuine, and that really raises the level of the cuisine. My favorite are the St Jacobs shells, they really melt in your tongue. In addition to the food, there are really delicious cocktails on the menu, and add to that the super nice staff and the result is my favorite restaurant in the Netherlands.

We visited Shin for the 2nd time and I must say, this restaurant is amazing: superfriendly staff + very tasteful food. We had the Shin tofu tacos, tuna carpaccio, scallop from Hokkaido, butter salmon, shrimp tacos, fried chicken (honey bbq) and the Odén fish stew (my favourite dish!). As dessert we had Shu-cream, a Japanese cream puff. And ohh my...the chai latte (super premium!) Is the best at this place. We will definitely come back!😀

Incredible discovery: we opted for the €69 menu which allowed us to travel through the “musts” on their menu. This meal was a return trip to Japan, both for the content of the plate and for the quality and atmosphere that reigns in the restaurant. The staff takes great care and does not hesitate to chat with you. If you are passing through Rotterdam, stop there, you will not be disappointed! (But remember to book!)

Ate here today. Friendly welcome. Luckily we had made a reservation, it was quite busy. Delicious food and well combined flavors. Better than the well-known 'Japanese' chains. Staff could come by more often for drinks, but we had to ask for this ourselves every time. Atmosphere of the establishment could be better, it is now just a concrete carcass. Looks like the job budget ran out. Furniture not comfortable. Worth repeating.

Wow we enjoyed it yesterday! The food was a taste explosion. Everything was delicious, it looked incredibly beautiful! We will definitely come back here. And the service was incredibly friendly. We had a very early reservation at 5PM in the evening. The venue was very quiet and still a lot of free spaces left. The moment we arrived we got our reserved place next to the window and received the menu card. Dinner and our drinks arrived fast by friendly people in the workplace. When leaving the place became more crowded. The improvement could be to have some information on the card or menu about, how to order, how to pay, where you could find the toilet. For someone who is deaf or can't speak, asking would be a problem.

The kitchen, hostesses and gentlemen deserve a big compliment!

Had a nice meal at SHIN. Unfortunately not much time and the start-up was a bit slow, which meant we ran out of time at the end (due to the film festival). The yellow tail fish was really delicious, as was the Wagyu and the St Jacobs shells.

Honestly, if I could give 10 star I would!! One of the staff immediately and proactively told me which menu is halal or could be made halal when she saw my hijab. A very rare experience for me in NL ❤️ They take it really seriously, thank you Shin team!! Me and my friend chose a 3-course menu. Everything is soooo good!! Especially the chicken wings and salmon miso butter. Everyone should try it because... I was so speechless??. Please everyone try the salmon miso butter for the main course I insist 😆 The space is also very comfortable. With how proper the food is, the vibe is so chill and comfortable. The music is just enough that you can have a conversation comfortably. Will definitely be back to try the other menu!

Shin is a hidden gem in Rotterdam for anyone craving authentic Japanese cuisine. I took 3-dishes set and it was delicious. Their matcha ice cream was the best I’ve ever had. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, ensuring we had a great experience. The cozy, beautifully designed interior adds to the charm. Though the portions are smaller, the quality more than makes up for it. Highly recommend Shin for an unforgettable Japanese dining experience!”

Absolutely marvelous! SHIN has always been a favourite of mine and recently we went again for a friend's birthday. We had the 5-course chef's menu, which was an absolute treat. Tuna carpaccio, crispy tuna taco, seaweed salad, dashi, karaage, a gyudon bowl and some delicious dessert were all included. We ordered some takoyaki on the side since we had a craving for it. All dishes were prepared beautifully, the tastes are authentic and we had a nice chat with the friendly staff. Cocktail selection was divine, the Okinawa beach is still a favourite. Sake was served cold and went well with the gyudon. We love SHIN and will continue to come back here as soon as we can! Arigato gozaimasu!

We had dinner on Boxing Day with our 10-month-old baby (2 highchairs available). The service is very friendly and helpful. As far as the food is concerned, you will notice that every dish contains fresh natural products and that the flavors really come into their own. Both drinks and food are neatly presented. If we come back to Rotterdam, we will definitely eat here again. Recommended if you like this type of food.

Eating at Shin is super tasty! Our favorite dishes were the Unagi Don, Tuna Carpaccio and Sea Scallop! We also enjoyed various cocktails and beers throughout the evening. Everyone who works there is also sweet and attentive. Highly recommended! 🤩

Recommended!!! We had a fantastic evening at SHIN with a large group (60 people). They organized two types of workshops for our team event (highly recommended) and the food was delicious. We ate an assortment of both vegetarian and fish/meat snacks, and everything was tasty. Takoyaki was my personal favorite.

Interesting restaurant setting, with informal/relaxed vibes but fancy menu. The scallops are great, with delicate and fresh taste. The wagyu was tasty and soft but in my opinion not worth the price for quantity. Octopus balls are very nice, recommended! The staff were extra kind and we felt comfortable, good option for a date. Go with a “tasting experience” mindset rather than hungry, the price is also for special ocasions.

I've read many reviews here, most of them praising the service, food and atmosphere, and mine is no different. The atmosphere is amazing. I know the back story and that only increases the amazement. Heavily renovating the place was not allowed because of the building's monumental status, so that's why they used minimal decor combined with furniture with minimal design. All of the furniture is hand-made of wood and contains no metal at all. As for the food, the menu changes over the season but there are fixed items. Don't be afraid of the high prices. You get what you pay for and if you're not satisfied, the owner and the chef are very willing to listen. Lastly, about the service. The owner has a keen eye for picking the right personnel. Not only in the field of hospitality, but also in understanding the customer's wishes and having the ability to explain the menu. I've been here more than three times already and I'll surely be back soon.

Incredibly delicious food. Real authentic Japanese cuisine with a Dutch twist. Fresh Japanese products are imported to deliver a unique international dining experience. Service was also top notch, the staff and owners were so friendly. We had dinner there for our anniversary and even got some delicious sake on the house. 10/10, highly recommended.

Nice Japanese place here in Rotterdam. Friendly staff and a good menu with something for everyone. Cocktails we picked are very nice. The food was pretty good, scallops are very tasty and so is the eel rice. The Takoyaki is not that great like in Japan. In my opinion the food came out too fast, having 3 dishes delivered at the same time is just pushing it a bit in speed. We asked to bring it slower and they went in a much better pace after that. The place isn't cheap but quality wise it's worth it. Dessert we had a matcha and a cake to share... (my wife makes this cake a lot better 😋). Definitely recommended to go here, but wear your old or dirty clothes as you will smell like a deep fryer when you get home!

After our Japan experience, a nice place to reminisce about delicious food!

Very disappointing food. Low quality, boring dishes, small portions and overpriced. We ordered the Karage chicken and yuzu as appetisers, both were in fact 80% flour with oil and a small piece of breaded chicken. No special flavour or whatsoever. You can make the same at home with better results. Then the wagyu which was definitely a very low quality wagyu or no wagyu at all. For the price tag you really feel robbed. And then the miso salmon which was literally a few pieces of salmon max 200gr of salmon with a mushroom slide on top and a slide of onion at the bottom. No special flavour or anything. I can make the same at home and get better results just adding salt and pepper. Then we order the desserts. Extremely disappointing to say the least! A ball of ice cream and matcha on top. Not even the super high quality matach tea had anything more than over diluted matcha tea with ice. Not recommended at all and definitely we will not come back.

The place is cute and the concept is nice. I liked that all staff say hi or bye in Japanese to guests. Staff were very nice and friendly. It is more tapas style Japanese the dishes were small size so don’t be shy to order multiple dishes. Everything we ordered was super delicious and very well cooked. They also have a extensive menu of drinks so would be nice to go for drinks and nibble too. Definitely recommend to try it if not short on budget.

Went here for the first time tonight and it’s our new favorite restaurant in Rotterdam (or even the Netherlands) Very friendly staff that explain everything, are helpful and joyful. Food is great! Unagi don was amazing. Boyfriend almost cried a little. Great dashi, freshest seaweed and plum salad. Great selection of drinks too. Very happy with the full experience!
