Super delicious authentic Japanese food! You can't get it like this anywhere else in Utrecht. The service is fast and very friendly. They are willing to do anything. My favorite restaurant!!

Had a wonderful evening sitting outside at Shokudo! We ordered a variety of authentic dishes to share, and everything was delicious. The service was exceptional—so warm and attentive. We enjoyed drinking shochu throughout the night. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it!

My ebi curry tasted great but the prices in the current menu has definitely increased. It feels a bit pricey for dining just outside of the city center. The home made cold green tea is great and they sell the tea (so you can make it at home) too. That being said, this is one of the few places in Utrecht with Japanese curry, so I can treat myself to it once in a while. Overall a great spot and I would come back again if I'm craving curries or donburis.

What a wonderful experience this was. Everything we ordered was incredibly flavorful and was beautifully presented at the table. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very pleasant and peaceful. We thoroughly enjoyed the dishes; the crispy chicken, in particular, was perfectly prepared. Drinking an ice-cold Asahi with this meal made it complete for me. I would love to come back here again.

Happy to finally have found a place that serves Katsudon! Shokudo serves plenty of authentic Japanese dishes that go beyond your standard Suhi and Ramen. The restaurant is small but has a very nice atmosphere. I usually order the Katsudon, I do have to say the quality differs from time to time, which lays in the tenderness of the Tonkatsu. I also wish they have a few more drink options outside their alcoholic menu.

We ate there on May 12th, and to be honest, we had a bit of doubt beforehand... Based on the photos of the interior, we didn't quite know what to expect. But we are so glad we went anyway!! We shared several small dishes, including onigiri, crispy chicken, Japanese curry, and a rice bowl. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and prepared with care. The curry and the chicken, in particular, were incredibly tasty: full of flavor, comfort food, but Japanese style. It's also nice that they serve Japanese beer and sake; that makes the experience just a little more complete. This is definitely highly recommended!

We spontaneously decided to eat here and luckily got a table. The food and the atmosphere were simply exceptional! Everything was very authentic and just as you'd hope! The restaurant is a bit out of the way, but it's well worth the trip!

We were welcomed with heartwarming hospitality for dinner at Shokudo, which means something like 'living room' in Japanese. And that is exactly the atmosphere it exudes. Relatively small and very cozy. The food is exquisite. We ate Dons and Curries, but also refined vegan starters. And, of course, some Onigiri, the Japanese rice balls for which this culinary gem in Utrecht has gained national fame. A fantastic evening! We will be back very soon.

Make a reservation! We have had several starters and four main courses. It was so delicious. Our absolute favorite was the cauliflower. Never ate it like that. Really worth a stay ❤️

Wittevrouen is going to be our neighborhood, my wife is Japanese, I often get to eat delicious Japanese food at home. I told the truth: the Nasu-don was the best I ever had and my wife agreed. It took courage to admit that, but this is the place to come have authentic Japanese food that is not ramen or sushi. I highly recommend it. We have since been back many times, and every time it was better. Perhaps it is appropriate to call it Kaizen, perhaps it is not, I usually don't get lucky with foreign words. This time I was impressed with the expanded drink selection. The sake and soda went down really well. I jokingly suggested they add some microbrewery beers, on second thought, there are delicious beers in Japan that perhaps can be imported. I remember a red rice beer that reached 6.5% and that was quite tasty. It might take Wittevrouwen by storm! My, oh my! Last night we went back and they had one red rice beer waiting for me. Inside I was in tears. How thoughtful could they be? But it is a true Japanese trait to be thoughtful and considerate. But also consider how true the experience felt! You owe it to yourself to try Shokudo. I think that the food is becoming better, if that is even possible, because you can taste the love and care with which it is prepared. The apetizers or side dishes should not be ignored either. Thank you!! I highly recommend it.

I had the pleasure of trying this wonderful Japanese restaurant and was absolutely thrilled. The experience was excellent in every way. The atmosphere is very cute and welcoming, creating the perfect atmosphere for enjoying dinner. As for the food, I tried the Ebi Fry Don (flavorful), the Kip Tatsuta (tender and well-marinated), and the Mochi Ice Cream to finish. Everything, without exception, was absolutely delicious! I literally couldn't stop eating. I had a great time and highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Japanese flavors in a beautiful setting. I'll definitely be back!

Charming little Japanese restaurant with a decent variety of food. When entering your a directly greeted by a lovely lady and the smell of curry. Seating is limited, but that adds to the charm, seems they do workshops with fabric here as well. The food tasted very homely and they had some items on the menu that I do not see often. We had a spicy chicken bowl, with a copious amount of chicken! Takoyaki was nice, but not fresh sadly, although it was prepared and presented well. Lovely miso soup!

A very cozy and cute place with a great variety of delicious, beautifully presented dishes! Loved it. They have vegetarian options available, and you definitely shouldn’t miss the ice cream mochi!

The restaraunt is so cozy feeling and they have a nice variety of items on the menu. They have a large range of sake and tea, especially. The wait staff was very attentive and hospitable and all the food was delicious. The restaurant is only open from thursday to Sunday and is quite small in size, so I suggest making a reservation ahead of time.

We found this to be an absolute gem in Utrecht! Cozy and calm with delicious food! High-quality, and clearly made with love. Everything was fresh, clean, and beautifully presented. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. The atmosphere was so relaxing that even our little toddler, who usually likes to fill the air with her noise, somehow mellowed out and enjoyed the calm vibe (a rare win for us!). The only sad part is that they now open only from 17:00, which makes it really hard for us to visit with a toddler. It’s such a shame, because this was by far our favorite place for food in Utrecht and now it might be hard to enjoy it as often as we’d love to.

Intimate Resturant. We had the katsu curry and a variety of starters. A little odd that everything inside the design wise seems to come straight from IKEA. Food was very tasty and Soju was great.

The food was very tasty; kimchi is not just spicy but also pleasantly flavorful. Of the desserts, I liked the Zwarte Sesam Kwarktaart the most—it is a very tender and uniquely flavored dish. The staff are polite and very nice people.

Adorable and cozy restaurant with excellent service and yummy food. I'd travel to Utrecht again to eat their bloemkool tatsuta (subtle flavors and delicious crunch) and zwart sesam kwarktaart(not too sweet and perfectly balanced) 😍 My partner liked the katsu don and I liked the spicy punchy kip curry. We also bought their hojicha tea, a smooth and refined roasted green tea.

Authentic Japanese homemade food with so much detail put into cooking (and great ingredients). Thoroughly enjoyed the meal, appetizers to desserts. Very welcoming and super clean/cozy atmosphere, but the lighting could have been dimmed for the evening service, just to make it a comfier atmosphere. Will defo visit again!

I tried their takoyaki and katsu don, they are very delicious! Takoyaki tastes similar to the one i tried in Tokyo, not too mushy, not too crunchy, it was hot & perfect. Katsu don was filling, good portion and the egg was done well. Their homemade tea was refreshing. They have couple of different sake too worth trying. They have 3-4 seats by the bar, perfect set up if you want to eat on your own. ごちそうさまでした.

Had a nice meal in a small restaurant. Just at a small table instead of a griddle that you often sit at at a Japanese restaurant. Dishes are different and the restaurant is decorated entirely in Japanese. Staff speaks limited English and Dutch, which means that some questions are not understood. That makes the service 4*. Furthermore, we had a wonderful evening. Recommended to eat.

An excellent Japanese restaurant! An extensive menu with very well prepared dishes made by real Japanese. The service is excellent and the taste is a sensation. The price is certainly not too bad either. The room is a bit soberly decorated and could perhaps have been more cozy, although the living room feeling certainly has its charm.

My rate: 2.5/5. The food is average. Curry was watery. Katsu was not tasty. Ramen was like Chinese fried noodles than Japanse ramen. Service was a bit low. Tea was good. Nice and cozy atmosphere but food quality could be improved.

A bit disappointed. Long waiting time. We waited 15mins before the waiter came to take orders. Another 40mins waiting before donkatsu curry and spicy chicken tatsuta don arrive. Donkatsu was dry. The salads with sauce were directly on the rice gave weird flavor and partially soggy rice, which was unfortunate because curry sauce was good. Could put them separately. Spicy chicken tatsuta was quite good, so do the various Japanese tea.

Nice new restaurant. Was there for lunch, my mother really liked her curry, I liked it too but honestly would have appreciated more ingredients/variety/spices, it was mainly rice and chicken, a little cabbage and sauce (chicken tatsuta don). Good portion. Service was great, very attentive to my mother's allergies and wishes and very fast. Nice Japanese decor, feels authentic. Would definitely come back!

I used to order from them but I think that this is unfortunately not an option anymore. Recently took a friend here for lunch. For me this cuisine reminds me of Japanese comfort food. Everything gets freshly prepared (in a timely manner), resulting in excellent tasting dishes. I'd always recommend to make a reservation because in the end the available seating is limited. The menu is not overwhelming yet does it cater nearly everyone's tastebuds. For the me best Japanese restaurant in the region. The service could be a bit more attentive, but I also get that in Japan normally the customer calls for the service staff etc.

Had a great time at Shokudo! We ordered the tuna onigiri and a couple of other dishes—portions were just right for the two of us. The food was super tasty, the service was quick and really friendly, plus the restaurant and terrace are both really nice and in a great spot. Definitely worth a visit!

Highly recommended. Authentic Japanese style. The store is not big. The two of us tried six dishes and four drinks. Every taste was great. There was no surprise. The service attitude was good. The disadvantage was that the stools were very hard. I started to feel uncomfortable after sitting for a long time.

Very cozy Japanese restaurant not far from the center. Pleasant service and decorated as if you were eating in Japan. Extensive menu, during our first time we had “Osakana Nanban” panga fish fillet as a starter and “Katsu don” pork/egg and “Chicken tatsuta curry” fried chicken, some vegetables with curry sauce as a main course. Ordered appropriate tea because of the cold weather. Highly recommended for those who want Japanese food but want something other than sushi for a change.

In addition, it is perfectly located next to the Grift Park, so you can definitely take a walk after dinner. food itself was perfect, just enough for me. Delicious food in a cozy environment. We had the takoyaki (octopus 'bitterballen' according to my dutch companion) which were super flavourful. The Katsu Curry was very flavourful and a the pork cuttlet was juicy and crunchy. He ordered the Osakana Nanban Don (fish with yuzu sauce), very delicate and well balanced. We topped it with some sake, great idea... and the mochi icecream for a sweet treat. The staff is very gentle and helpful, the place is cozy and full of japanese art and media, very stimulating. Great for a date night. Will keep returning.
