I highly recommend this restaurant. The food is fresh, and the staff are helpful. We don't speak Dutch, but they took great care of us. The portions are large and worth the price. We couldn't finish everything and were allowed to take the leftovers home. We offered to pay for the plastic bag, but they kindly said it was okay. If you're visiting The Hague, you should definitely stop by!

Today I wanted to order kibbeling, but was put off by an employee who reprimanded another employee—of color—in a loud tone and in a very unfriendly and disrespectful manner. It came across as quite racist to me. I find this very unpleasant, and therefore I will not be coming here again.

Overall, it's pretty good, and the quantity is quite large.

Food was good. Staff seems to speak only Dutch no matter which language you initiate.

Pleasantly surprised by this place, I absolutely recommend it especially to Italian tourists who want to eat well in the yard, excellent fish, after all the place is first and foremost a fishmonger, clean and friendly, excellent food but what really surprised me are the incredible prices, I ate fried cod and chips and spent €10.50

The herring was fresh and tasted very good, and the quality of the fish was excellent. However, the presentation could be improved. After being sliced, it was simply placed into a container, which made it look less appealing. It was also pre-prepared rather than freshly assembled in front of customers, and the service was slower than expected. With better presentation and quicker service, the overall experience would be much improved.

Can’t rate the food because we never got served at the takeout counter. Elder blonde woman at the counter ignored my friend and I (we are Asian American) and continuously took orders from customers who arrived after us. She did perceive us, because she told us to move aside for another customer to pay. Ostensibly, this was valid feedback, and we politely moved aside. There was no organized line and she seemed to pick whichever customer to pay attention to (not us). Other reviews seem to indicate similar biases toward English speaking (or non-white passing) tourists. I hate to think it was discrimination. I do not recommend tourists coming here to support such service.

Delicious fish. Worth making a detour for. But a price increase of 30% in a year? I'm not eating that off. Simonis isn't going to be the place anymore. Meanwhile, 3 years later, I bought a lekkerbek again anyway: €13.75. So another 30% added. The fish is being paid for dearly. See you in 3 years.

Last week, I bought salmon worth 40 euros to take away. The staff were extremely friendly then and spontaneously offered cutlery and sauces for free. This week, I stopped by again for a takeaway order. Yesterday, I underwent a skin treatment with spot removal, leaving my entire face with small open wounds. To avoid scaring other customers, I therefore wore sunglasses and a cap. Unfortunately, I was treated in an extremely rude manner by a female employee with short hair. While the sauces were always included with the salmon free of charge in previous weeks, this week she suddenly demanded separate payment for the sauces. When I asked for a fork, she initially refused, rolled her eyes, and eventually four staff members gathered to give me one fork. She also swore at me during the interaction. I suspect that this poor treatment is due to my appearance after the skin treatment; this feels like discrimination based on appearance and possibly ethnic discrimination. I came weekly for about 40 euros worth of salmon and even promoted this business positively on Instagram and other social media. It is extremely disappointing due to this staff behavior, and trust in Dutch hospitality has also been shaken in general. I will never return, and my friends and children share my disappointment and will not be visiting either.

We visited weekly for salmon orders of approximately 40 euros and were always satisfied with the service; sauces and cutlery were provided at no extra cost. My wife also shared positive reviews of the shop on Instagram to attract new customers. After her skin treatment involving open wounds on her face, she wore a cap and sunglasses out of respect for other guests. A staff member with short hair suddenly applied different pricing rules for sauces, initially refused a fork, rolled her eyes, and verbally insulted her. The fact that four staff members gathered for a single fork feels intentionally unkind and discriminatory. The biggest problem lies in the owner's poor staff management: no clear agreements regarding accompanying sauces and a lack of anti-discrimination training for the staff. Because of this incident, we, as loyal customers, have permanently lost our trust, and we advise our friends and family to avoid this shop as well.

For me personally, the soup is number one. You can sit inside, there is space outside, and there is a wide variety of types with various kinds of seafood.

I often come here for a herring with onion on a whole-wheat roll. I'm always served with great friendliness. The staff here care about their customers, and they often leave satisfied, often with a smile. Price-quality is 9.

I ate here when I was staying in The Hague for a short while... I still think about that fish and shrimp. I don't think I have ever eaten such delicious fish. I am willing to return to The Hague just for this. Highly recommended!

Mixed feelings! The street-side window enticed us with its tempting offerings: fish salads, shrimp in sauces, mini shrimp rolls. The salespeople were surly, as if answering questions as a punishment, and first-time visitors didn't necessarily know the rules, which included ordering at the counter outside and eating inside, and calling out your order number in Dutch, leaving you guessing. As for the food itself, the fried fish (not cod, but it wasn't labeled, so I'm not sure) was fresh, crispy, and delicious. The mussels fried in batter were incredibly fresh and excellent! Some of the best mussels I've ever tasted. The fish soup was a 3+, surprisingly bland. The herring sandwich came in a delicious, buttery, brioche-like slice. The sandwich with mini North Sea shrimp was so ordinary. If it weren't for the photo, I would have forgotten about it. The sauces were quite good. On the plus side, the place didn't smell like fried food, so it was a pleasant meal.

I got terrible diarrhea from it. It wasn't tasty either. I am NEVER coming here again.

Busy during lunch, a bit rushed, and less and less kibbeling for what you pay. Otherwise, it tastes okay. Over the years, the taste has gone from fantastic to okay. It is a shame in a way, because for me, Simonis was the place to be for fish. Now it no longer distinguishes itself from fish stalls.

Mediocre and expensive, they use spices other than the usual "red" fish seasoning. The service was minimal, but the lady behind the counter is much nicer. The portion was meager for that price! I wouldn't bother again.

I've been helped a few times, just like today, by an older woman with red glasses and short blond hair. What an unfriendly person! My husband said the same thing, as did several of my acquaintances/friends. Maybe she doesn't have a good relationship with "non-Dutch" people, but if so, she needs to work more behind the scenes. If you're reading this, lady, work on your customer service, because it was nowhere near as good today! Otherwise, the staff is friendly.

Nice people, but when I opened it, I discovered they'd given me smoked halibut instead of a halibut fillet. Such a shame.

Back again in September 2025. The place has changed and gone seriously down hill. The fish was unpleasantly crunchy and did not taste freshly deep fried. The portion was disappontingly small. The decor has not been updated since last time I visited in 2017. All in all a sad experience. I hope that Simonis in the harbour will be better. I will try that one next. Old review from 2017: One of the best fish places in the country. Portion are large and the taste is wonderful. The decor is extremely basic more like a factory canteen. The prices are quite steep for a plate but due to large servings is often enough for two people with an average appetite. There is also a Simonis in the harbour area which has the same fish and the same prices, but with much better atmosphere.

Should be zero as the food was terrible. Ordered kreef soup and got a terrible fish soup. When asked the serving person she said it was my fault and I did not order the KREEF soup. They just wiped themselves off the situation did not care and customer service was horrible. Do yourself a favour and do not go to the in the Stad!!!!! Charged 22.00€ for their own fish soup which was uneddable.

I have to revise my review now. What was once a lovely restaurant, where you could really sit quietly and enjoy a delicious meal, with a warm atmosphere and good service, has now become something more like a snack bar. You order outside, and inside, the food is brought to you while your number is loudly announced. My son accidentally spilled his drink on the table, which naturally made a bit of a mess. I tried to clean it up a bit, but was annoyed that no one was there to help. Inside, I felt like I was eating in a homeless shelter; the atmosphere was gloomy and shabby. I honestly don't think I'll go back to Simones. After all, it's not just about the food, but about the overall experience that makes a restaurant a great place to visit. A real shame, and I mean that sincerely. I hope they return to their old policy.

Small and very warm fish restaurant (network) in the heart of Den Haag. My recommendations;).

We visited this so-called well-known chain in The Hague for our first dinner of the trip, but the staff’s rude and impatient attitude ruined the experience. The restaurant wasn’t busy, yet when I ordered fried cod, the server snapped back at me and acted extremely annoyed when I asked about prices for shrimp and smoked salmon. The cod wasn’t even served hot and came without sauce until I requested it. Overall, very disappointing food and service. As an Asian tourist, I cannot recommend this place—the staff’s unwelcoming behavior even made me wonder if racial discrimination was involved.

My mother and I came over for a nice meal. We sat inside, and when our food was ready, she just yelled outside, not inside. Then we got our food, and they talked behind our backs in the kitchen. Very rude.

The fish is tasty but I found a mackerel sandwich for 6.00 euros very expensive, an ounce costs 3.25, the ladies said I don't make the prices and that's what I could do with it, today I was at fish jac and a mackerel sandwich 3.45, that's a difference

The two of us paid €62 for a truly disappointing meal. Everything was extremely oily, completely flavorless, and simply poorly prepared. For the price, we expected considerably more. The tables were dirty and obviously hadn't been cleaned properly between guests. The entire ambiance felt unkempt. A complete disappointment; we definitely won't be back.

What an unbelievable experience. I've rarely been treated so rudely and disinterestedly. I've been visiting Simonis for at least 50 years and am completely disillusioned. Even the fried fish (quite dry and the portion size much smaller than the example displayed in the window) couldn't make up for this experience. As far as I'm concerned, never again! Simonis, it's high time you talk to your staff! They're not the princesses; no, the customer should be king or princess. This can't go on much longer.

If you want to eat good fish quickly and at a reasonable price, this is the place for you. You order at the counter and your food is brought to you. The value for money is excellent. However, the dining room and restrooms lack cleanliness.

Racial discrimination against Asian tourists. Others only took 3 or 4 minutes. I waited for 15 minutes. They kept asking but they didn't give me anything. Very bad attitude. There was almost no meat on the fried fish. The batter was very thick and full of fish bones. It was very unpalatable. Very low value for money. Much worse than any other restaurant on the roadside in Amsterdam.

Tasty Food, but Location Feels Overlooked The food was fresh and very good. We had kibbeling, Dutch new herring (broodje haring), and patatjes—all perfectly cooked and delicious. However, it seems like this location receives less attention compared to others, which is surprising considering it’s in the city center where many tourists pass by. With such a prime location, you’d expect a bit more care in presentation and overall atmosphere.

This is one of my favorite places for kibbeling. Top 5 in the Netherlands, and also the most generous portions for the price. Today, I had kibbeling and fries. As always, it was perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and not greasy or wet. I didn't even put sauce on it because it was so delicious.

Last Monday I wanted to order kibbeling at Simonis Markthof, €8.75 for a portion of 3 pieces!!! Never again Simonis for me, neither here nor in Scheveningen!!!

Got a lunch and lady at the counter rejected me in a glass of water, so I had to buy a bottle. 15 mins later a man asked for a glass of water and he got served. Nice double standard service 👏

Delicious fresh fish! It's nice to be able to eat it in peace with your indoor and outdoor space. Neat toilets and facilities to wash hands.

Bar service faster. The food is quite decent for the price. There used to be more choice.

But tried it once: Dish cod gourmet fries salad coke zero, 21.50 not cheap, but was it good? No moderate. The gourmet is best on part of the dish, there is nothing to complain about here, it is just good and also quite large. Those thick fries, which I'm not a fan of. Too much mealy inside and it becomes weak quickly. That was also the case here, plus I got the impression that this was the last leftover of what had already been baked. The lady offered me more fries that were still in the fryer at the time, but I declined. So weak fries, too bad. The salad was well prepared with dressing, compliments for that. Unfortunately the salad was so cold it was unpleasant to eat. The trio of sauces you get with the fish is a good gesture but doesn't make up for it as a whole. Service was neat and fast, nice lady. Atmosphere was good, quiet, no screaming kids. A mediocre rating due to the weak fries and ice-cold salad.

I had sashimi tuna here. It was not so great in quality, flesh looks dry and grey.

We ordered food outside and took it inside to eat there along with the other ordered products. It was cold inside and the luxury sandwich €8 each was full of lettuce and a few pieces of fish. Scandalous! The coffee in paper cups was cold and all in all it was quite a downer.

Such a shame that Coast Fish from Prinsestraat has left the center ☹️. Simonis no longer lives up to the name. A small portion of kibbeling, of mediocre quality (too fatty and too salty, among other things) for 8.75!!! This really isn't possible, I'm dropping out.

You charge ridiculous prices. Over the top too expensive. And then that 1 euro sandwich makes your herring sandwich 4 euros. Madness for pre-processed herring so small that it fits in a hollow molar. We are shamelessly robbed. The supermarkets, which have never made so much profit, also continue to become more expensive. Shame.
