We've been to this highly recommended beach bar several times this year. The staff is incredibly friendly! The food is outstanding! You feel comfortable... somehow like family... very relaxed... just completely at ease. Every wish is fulfilled. Thanks to the chef, the waitstaff, and especially to our amazing server, she gave us a wonderful evening. Thanks to the whole team!!!

We ended up here on our bike tour and enjoyed the October sunshine. The service was, like everywhere in Friesland, super friendly and quick. We just wanted a bite to eat, and that worked perfectly here. Not just boring currywurst and fries like in Germany. Our sandwiches were both delicious and a feast for the eyes. The mackerel roll with capers was a dream. Thanks for this lovely break.

The staff treated us poorly because we didn't speak Dutch. One of the employees started yelling, saying, "I don't speak German or English." We had to wait over half an hour for two cups of tea. I don't recommend this.

The portions aren't generous, but they're very tasty. We had fish and meat, as well as dessert, and everything was delicious. The service was very friendly, dogs are welcome, and the view of the water, if you can get a table, is fantastic. We'd love to go back!

We were thrilled with the perfect steaks and super juicy burgers that evening. Everything was homemade: burger patty, fries, onion jam, sweet potato mash... And all at a very fair price! We'd love to come back!

Everything was perfect here. Great location, very friendly service, excellent food (be sure to try the Borrelplank!), and a good beer selection (the Texel Sturmkoppe is really delicious).

I usually have my reservations about 'beach tents' and am not a big fan of schnitzel and satay menus, but this diamond fillet satay in this restaurant (!) was really very tasty!

We were there for the second time today. The location is great if you can get the right table overlooking the IJsselmeer. (Reservations are unfortunately useless for outside tables.) The second time, the side dishes were unfortunately lacking. We had mentioned this when ordering; despite the surcharge, the mashed potatoes were incredibly small, and you could barely find the three mushrooms. (See photo) Why are they cutting corners like this? The meat was good quality. The burger didn't come with any side dishes, so the price/performance ratio isn't right at all. Service could be smarter. Empty glasses were cleared away without asking for a second drink. We would have liked to have had one. Overall, the taste was good, but they're cutting corners.

We were there in spring 2025 - delicious and atmospheric. It was ... We came again in August 2025 ... The food has deteriorated very much - we took the dish of the day Spaghetti with shrimps - just disgusting, impossible to eat. Burgers are more or less. Steaks absolutely do not correspond to the ordered roasting. The waitress is very unpleasant. We do not recommend!!!

Two people sat here on a weekday after a day at the beach. The service was good, the sweet potato fries were delicious, and the smoothie was also very good. Due to the beautiful location, it's a bit pricey.

The food was delicious. There was a slight mix-up with the reservation time, but we got a table. The food doesn't include extras like fries and salad; you have to order those separately, but we had a wonderful meal. We ordered one extra fries, and that was more than enough. The photos show the Irish burger and the salmon. The sauce was deliciously creamy.

We ate here for the first time tonight! Glad we chose THIS restaurant and not at Strandhuys Makkum at Hotel Vigilante.... Thuishaven was truly AMAZING!!! The food was delicious, with a wide selection, a cozy atmosphere, and friendly staff (also very important). We'll definitely be back when we're in Makkum.... Very nice ambiance right on the promenade/beach. Friendly and pleasant service. Unfortunately, it's not five stars; we (seven people) waited 40 minutes for our food. The food that was finally delivered was very good. Angus burgers, bowls, burrata, and shrimp were all delicious and beautifully presented. One negative: even though it was a Saturday afternoon, the men's restroom was a bit of an imposition, compared to the women's, which was absolutely clean. You should check it out more often...

Charming location in Holle Poarte overlooking the IJsselmeer. Perfect for a cocktail and appetizer at sunset or a delicious dinner. From croquettes on bread to avocado toast, the lunch menu is a great place to relax. Standard restaurant prices.

Vanuit ons vakantiehuis in Witmarsum meerdere keren gedineerd bij dit fantastische restaurant. Wij stonden versteld van de wijze waarop dit (vooral jonge) team op elkaar was ingespeeld: uiterst vriendelijk, bekwaam, behulpzaam en zeer netjes. Het eten was voortreffelijk en de toetjes deden daar niet voor onder. Ruime keuze bij de drankenkaart. Bij een volgend bezoek aan het mooie vriendelijke Friesland komen we zeker weer terug!!

The atmosphere is really nice there and the prices were fair too. I had an avocado chicken break for €13. Unfortunately, immediately afterwards I had severe stomach pain and felt nauseous. That's why I only give the food one star.

Very nice beach bar from nice owners with super hospitable staff and nice, varied cuisine. You can eat from the menu, but the snacks or snack board are also great! Beautiful view to end a wonderful day at the beach. The lunch menu is definitely also recommended!

Thuishaven is een prima plek om te zijn. In elk jaargetijde van het jaar. Sfeer is prima, eten en drinken is lekker. Onze vaste stek in Makkum. Terras is gezellig. Op het Overdekte terras met verwarming kan ook in najaar en voorjaar prima zitten.

We wanted to eat around 7:30 p.m. Many tables were not cleared, dirty, full ashtrays, empty drinks were on the tables. It took about 25 minutes for a waitress to notice us and take the order. The burger and fries we ordered were good. The salad with chicken, on the other hand, was quite unappetizing, even though I'm a big salad fan.

We had been before and now our family was together again. Good food, not a long wait and excellent service and excellent staff. Recommended!!

As part of our boat tour through Friesland we also visited Makkum. The center of Makkum is not as beautiful as Workum, but the beach in Makkum is incredibly beautiful. We sat outside and watched the amazing sunset. The restaurant has a very nice memory card, although we can't say anything about the quality of the food because we only had something to drink. The service is very good and the staff is very friendly. There are very nice holiday homes on Makkum Beach with direct access to the beach. Highly recommended!!

Tasty, but sometimes too expensive. With a view of the beach. Partially sheltered seating outside and additional seating inside. Free, fast WiFi. Burger for 16.00 euros without any other side dish was definitely too expensive - but one star deducted. After all, you can get simple fries for just 4.00 euros - and they were even nice and crispy. Smoothies, coffee and cake were also consistently good. Very clean toilets.

We had a delicious lunch here during a day in Makkum. My wife and I both had a Verdejo and the Irish black angus burger with 1 portion of fresh fries. 1 portion of fries was more than enough for 2 people. A large portion! The burger was perfectly cooked and delicious. The bun wasn't dry either. Very tasty! The place is beautiful, has a nice beach atmosphere, and you can sit outside with a lovely view of the sea and beach. The service was also excellent. Nothing wrong with that.

The Thuishaven beach bar is simply worth it. The location right on the beach promenade and just a few steps from the IJseelmeer is brilliant. Sitting outside on the sofas and enjoying the sunset is simply fantastic. You can find everything you need on the map. And if you want more, take a look at the dinner menu. The food tastes good. The drinks are great. The staff was always quick and friendly. You simply have a good time at Thuishaven.

Steak was tough and took 3 hours

Sehr schönes Restaurant mit schöner lange zum Ijsselmeer. Hatten Glück das wir ohne Reservierung an einem Samstagabend einen Tisch bekommen haben. Essen war lecker und zu einem angemessenem Preis. Genug Personal war vorhanden, aber leider unkoordiniert. Die Vorspeisenplatte blieb bis zum Hauptgang stehen, obwohl zig mal Kellner und auch die für uns zuständige Kellnerin vorbeigelaufen ist. Wir hatten 2 Getränke und meine Freundin hätte auch noch Nachtisch genommen, aber leider kam niemand mehr an den Tisch. Im Großen und Ganzen Nettes Restaurant, aber die Kellner müssen mehr auf Zack sein! Bezahlt haben wir am Thresen, weil wir nicht auf die Kellner warten wollten und dort hatte jemand auch eine Bestellung aufgegeben, weil ihr Tisch auch lange nicht bedient wurde.

Een leuk sfeervol restaurant. Heerlijke lunch kaart gerechten zijn vers bereid . En mogelijkheden voor glutenvrij en glutenvrij brood is echt lekker!! Lekkere biertjes en wijn en een mooi uitzicht zowel binnen als op terras. Aanrader!!

Nice place to eat or have a drink on the terrace or inside. They have lunch options for vegans, but it is indicated as vegetarian, so be sure to ask. I hope they change this one day and make it clearer for vegans too. We ordered the falafel flatbread and it was completely vegan / vegan / plant-based and really very tasty. Highly recommended. They also had oat milk for the different coffee options.

The atmosphere is really nice, that's how I would decorate my home. I had the Surf'n'Turf Teriyaki with fries. The shrimp and meat were fried to perfection. For children there is even a mini burger, very cute, and a small play area.

Overall a very nice restaurant. Great location, modern and comfortably furnished, friendly staff. The price level is okay, drinks prices are very high, like almost everywhere in the region. Good quality food.
