Fantastic restaurant, simple yet delicious menu. Beautifully furnished, very cozy both inside and out. We enjoyed the stunning sunset, and the service was extremely friendly and attentive.

We visited this restaurant twice: once for cocktails at lunchtime and later for dinner. The cocktails are fantastic! Be sure to try the Espresso Martini and the Pornstar – you'll love them. For dinner, we had a burger and the fish of the day. The fish was a bit too salty for my taste, but the burger was excellent. The portions are generous, the service is quick, and the location is lovely.

Ordered a BBQ pork stripes sandwich, fresh fries, and a light lunch. The BBQ sandwich was slightly spicy and really delicious in terms of taste. The fresh fries/light lunch were tasty. The sandwich comes on a plate alone. The presentation could be better with some garnish or something similar. For example, some lettuce/cucumber/pickled vegetables/kroepoek.

The food tasted very good and looked good too... nothing to complain about! We had reserved two days in advance, thinking we would be somewhat on time. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, given that it was a busy evening. I fully understand that reservations cannot be made outside, but we literally had the worst spot in the entire restaurant. We arrived in 2 stages, and I was ready to turn around right away. If there hadn't been six of us, I would have done the same, but it was our last evening after a week of vacation that I didn't want to ruin. I did ask if we could be moved as soon as there was space outside, but we received no further feedback. We paid attention to when better-seated tables arrived... this was well over 45 minutes to an hour later, so I have my doubts about the reservation system. We also had to ask for a forgotten drink, and one person's food arrived much later than the rest. To top it all off, we discovered at home that 2 extra drinks had been charged for another table. We fully understand busy evenings like this; we are familiar with the hospitality industry... but for us, it was a disappointing ending, unfortunately.

Very nice spot on the beach in Makkum. It has the atmosphere of a beach bar, especially in good weather! But it is also a good place to spend time in other seasons. Friendly staff, tasty food, not pretentious. Delicious desserts!!

We ate at Strandbar Thuishaven again last week. The weather was beautiful, so we sat outside. We had the BBQ Beef Skewer. Very tasty grilled meat with sweet potato fries as an extra. There was still room for dessert, so we had the Macaron. Highly recommended. A nice, crisp wine to go with it, and our evening was complete. The food and service were fantastic again. What a great team they have there. We will be back soon 😎

We only had drinks here; the wine prices were reasonable. The service was very quick and friendly. The view of the beach was stunning. The food at the neighboring tables looked very appetizing.

Addendum: The phone call after my review was appalling: No explanation, instead repeated questions about my origin and speculation about my nationality, labeling me as Ukrainian or from the Balkans (my answer that I'm from Germany apparently wasn't satisfactory). They couldn't or wouldn't explain what my origin had to do with my restaurant review. I found this behavior disrespectful and discriminatory – there was no apology or professional handling of my criticism. Therefore, I'm taking back another star. Original review: Despite the restaurant being fully booked, we were fortunate enough to get a table – a plus for that initially. Unfortunately, the subsequent events didn't live up to this positive first impression. We had to wait almost an hour for our food. A longer wait can happen in a busy restaurant, but it should at least be justified by the quality. The curry I ordered, however, was disappointing: The rice didn't seem fresh at all, but rather dry, hard, and obviously had been prepared for a while. For a dish costing €19.50, this is simply unacceptable. The service also left much to be desired. The staff seemed rather inattentive during our visit. The situation at the cash register was particularly baffling: despite the availability of mobile card readers, we were asked to go to the bar ourselves. Especially for me, as a pregnant woman with a small child at the table, it would have been a small but very thoughtful gesture to allow payment directly at the table. Overall, based on the recommendations, I had significantly higher expectations. A beautiful location alone is unfortunately not enough if the food and service don't live up to the standard.

We come here on a regular basis and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere is always good and the selection generous. Sometimes you wait a little longer than normal, but as a hospitality professional you can quickly tell when it's busy that it MIGHT take a bit longer. Who cares, they work with passion here! If you're in a hurry, just stay away and get some kibbeling at Hoek's (nothing against Hoek's, by the way), but if you want to enjoy yourself in a relaxed atmosphere with a cozy Ibiza ambiance, this is your home base 😉 We are big fans of this location and will definitely be back. Excellent food with a touch of fine dining. But that comes at a price. The service (presumably the owner) was rather reserved and condescending – but that's just our personal impression. I imagine a beach restaurant to be more relaxed, and it lacks the style of a fine-dining establishment.

Very nice atmosphere right on the promenade/beach. Friendly and attentive service. Unfortunately, not five stars, as we (seven people) waited 40 minutes for our food. What was eventually delivered was very good. The Angus burgers, bowls, burrata, and shrimp were delicious and beautifully presented. One negative point: although it was Saturday afternoon, the men's restroom was rather unacceptable compared to the women's, which was absolutely clean. They should check it more often… We'll be back again in July. Service 😳. The appetizer arrived quite quickly, but now we wait 90 minutes for the food. Not recommended, what a shame.

All in all, the price-quality ratio is completely off under these circumstances. Cleanliness, friendliness, and well-functioning service should be a matter of course. Unfortunately, we will not be returning, and based on our experience, we cannot recommend Strandbar Thuishaven.

The tables weren't cleared for a long time, making the entire area look neglected. The service was very poor. We had to wait 30 to 45 minutes for our drinks, even though it wasn't particularly busy. We had to get the menus ourselves, as no one bothered to do so. We were particularly bothered by the unfriendly and unhelpful service. We felt more like a nuisance than a welcome guest. Overall, the price-performance ratio is completely unacceptable under these conditions. Cleanliness, friendliness, and efficient service should be standard. We unfortunately won't be returning and, based on our experience, cannot recommend this beach bar.

Unfortunately, I had to wait a long time for someone to come. Then things moved quickly, though. The 10 deep-fried "bitter garnish" were, sadly, all from the supermarket. For €10, I expected more. On the other hand, the monkfish tart was very tasty, although I would have liked a few more cherries. The location with its sea view is good.

The food was good, but the service was poor. Tables weren't cleared immediately, leaving us sitting at a table with the previous customer's mess. We initially ordered two hot chocolates with whipped cream and one tea. They provided the tea bags, but didn't give me hot water. There were also no spoons. We had to chase them down ourselves. There were three waitresses, but no one took any initiative to take our order. In the end, our sandwiches were served quickly and were delicious. Had the service been better, they would have deserved 5 stars. Now, an average of 3 stars.

We've been to this highly recommended beach bar several times this year. The staff is incredibly friendly! The food is outstanding! You feel comfortable... somehow like family... very relaxed... just completely at ease. Every wish is fulfilled. Thanks to the chef, the waitstaff, and especially to our amazing server, she gave us a wonderful evening. Thanks to the whole team!!!

We ended up here on our bike tour and enjoyed the October sunshine. The service was, like everywhere in Friesland, super friendly and quick. We just wanted a bite to eat, and that worked perfectly here. Not just boring currywurst and fries like in Germany. Our sandwiches were both delicious and a feast for the eyes. The mackerel roll with capers was a dream. Thanks for this lovely break.

The staff treated us poorly because we didn't speak Dutch. One of the employees started yelling, saying, "I don't speak German or English." We had to wait over half an hour for two cups of tea. I don't recommend this.

The portions aren't generous, but they're very tasty. We had fish and meat, as well as dessert, and everything was delicious. The service was very friendly, dogs are welcome, and the view of the water, if you can get a table, is fantastic. We'd love to go back!

We were thrilled with the perfect steaks and super juicy burgers that evening. Everything was homemade: burger patty, fries, onion jam, sweet potato mash... And all at a very fair price! We'd love to come back!

Everything was perfect here. Great location, very friendly service, excellent food (be sure to try the Borrelplank!), and a good beer selection (the Texel Sturmkoppe is really delicious).

I usually have my reservations about 'beach tents' and am not a big fan of schnitzel and satay menus, but this diamond fillet satay in this restaurant (!) was really very tasty!

We were there for the second time today. The location is great if you can get the right table overlooking the IJsselmeer. (Reservations are unfortunately useless for outside tables.) The second time, the side dishes were unfortunately lacking. We had mentioned this when ordering; despite the surcharge, the mashed potatoes were incredibly small, and you could barely find the three mushrooms. (See photo) Why are they cutting corners like this? The meat was good quality. The burger didn't come with any side dishes, so the price/performance ratio isn't right at all. Service could be smarter. Empty glasses were cleared away without asking for a second drink. We would have liked to have had one. Overall, the taste was good, but they're cutting corners.

We were there in spring 2025 - delicious and atmospheric. It was ... We came again in August 2025 ... The food has deteriorated very much - we took the dish of the day Spaghetti with shrimps - just disgusting, impossible to eat. Burgers are more or less. Steaks absolutely do not correspond to the ordered roasting. The waitress is very unpleasant. We do not recommend!!!

Two people sat here on a weekday after a day at the beach. The service was good, the sweet potato fries were delicious, and the smoothie was also very good. Due to the beautiful location, it's a bit pricey.

The food was delicious. There was a slight mix-up with the reservation time, but we got a table. The food doesn't include extras like fries and salad; you have to order those separately, but we had a wonderful meal. We ordered one extra fries, and that was more than enough. The photos show the Irish burger and the salmon. The sauce was deliciously creamy.

Charming location in Holle Poarte overlooking the IJsselmeer. Perfect for a cocktail and appetizer at sunset or a delicious dinner. From croquettes on bread to avocado toast, the lunch menu is a great place to relax. Standard restaurant prices.

Vanuit ons vakantiehuis in Witmarsum meerdere keren gedineerd bij dit fantastische restaurant. Wij stonden versteld van de wijze waarop dit (vooral jonge) team op elkaar was ingespeeld: uiterst vriendelijk, bekwaam, behulpzaam en zeer netjes. Het eten was voortreffelijk en de toetjes deden daar niet voor onder. Ruime keuze bij de drankenkaart. Bij een volgend bezoek aan het mooie vriendelijke Friesland komen we zeker weer terug!!

The atmosphere is really nice there and the prices were fair too. I had an avocado chicken break for €13. Unfortunately, immediately afterwards I had severe stomach pain and felt nauseous. That's why I only give the food one star.
