Al in verschillende Sumo restaurants geweest en eigenlijk altijd lekkere sushi gegeten. Ook deze Sumo in hartje Rotterdam is daar geen uitzondering op. Qua interieur is deze wel de gezelligste Sumo en wat minder kil als de andere vestigingen waar ik geweest ben. Maar dat is uiteraard een kwestie van smaak.

We literally had to pay 120 euros and you know what's the worst. Food is disgusting because of them I never hate sushi anymore. People, if you are in the area, go to Happy Italian literally next door and enjoy the beautiful view, good service and good food for much less. Sorry, I was just still hungry and I have never experienced that in ten years with all you can eat. Service was dead and it was very cold downstairs, even though they had a separate heater next to us, it was just cold. Be stingy about everything. The food literally everything except salmon is swimming in sauce so it's more like a soup joint and dirty too. We are very shocked by the quality. After the 1st round we wanted to leave as quickly as possible and for dessert they literally only have ice cream and 2 things that contain beans and a fried banana, so not really that big. You couldn't even grab sushi with your sticks, I'm really going to work on it, I'm just screwed. This was worth maybe 40 euros max and my daughters couldn't eat anything. Everything was covered in sauce. What we ordered and even things went wrong that I wanted differently after saying twice, I thought never mind. And gyoza was so cold and there wasn't even chicken in it, you could only taste vegetables. This is sooooo unbearable. I haven't been screwed this bad in a long time.

Service is zwaar achteruit gegaan bij Sumo. Na gesererveerd te hebben kwam ik aan bij het restaurant waar ik 15m moest wachten voordat iemand me bracht naar een tafel. De tafel was enorm vies (etensresten en haren op de tafel en stoelen). Toen ik vroeg of het schoongemaakt kon worden werd er nauwkeurig naar de tafel gekeken en kreeg ik "hmmm" terug. Ik zei ja het is vies. Dus toen is het toch maar schoongrmaakt. Na nog 15 minuten gewacht te hebben. Geen tablet gekregen, niemand is ook langsgeweest om wat aan te bieden zodat ik al kon bestellen. Toen weggelopen en besloten elders te eten. Het is het geld niet waard.

There are plenty of sushi places in the Market Hall and Sumo isn't the best and it's not the worst. They offer a range of hot and cold dishes with some nice nigiri options. I chose a selection of these with eel, salmon and other fishes which were good but not great. Possibly they're a bit better at hot dishes as we also had some chicken skewers, which were excellent, and a Japanese chicken curry. The latter wasn't bad although the rice was dry rather than soft suggesting that it had been cooked for a while. Still the service at Sumo was good and it's a pretty restaurant inside. So it's a nice place to visit if you're looking for some easy food at an acceptable price.

⭐ 1 Star I visited Sumo Markthal in Rotterdam on 25th December with friends (two families: 4 adults and 1 child) as it was one of the few places open on Christmas Day. We were looking forward to enjoying lunch and having a good time, but the experience was incredibly disappointing. Firstly, there were significant delays in our orders, and the waitstaff seemed clueless about the menu. While delays can happen during busy times, what followed was completely unacceptable. When we received the bill, there was a shocking €150 extra charge. Upon questioning, we were told it was for a "Christmas menu," something we were never informed about. It wasn’t mentioned in the menu, there was no signage, and as walk-in customers, we had no prior notice of this additional cost. We asked to see an itemized breakdown of what we ordered and its original pricing. Instead of helping, the young man who claimed to be the manager rudely dismissed our concerns and threatened to call the police if we didn’t pay. His tone was unprofessional and downright disrespectful. He insisted that the extra charge was stated on the restaurant's website, but as walk-in customers, this was irrelevant and unacceptable. After waiting for 10 minutes, we decided to call the police ourselves. At this point, another man (possibly the actual manager or owner) stepped in and reluctantly offered a discount. We ultimately paid €185, which was closer to the fair price, but the damage to the experience was already done. This was, without a doubt, one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. The unprofessionalism, lack of transparency, and rude behavior were appalling. I strongly advise against visiting this restaurant if you don’t want to risk being ripped off

⭐ 1 estrella Visité Sumo Markthal en Rotterdam el 25 de diciembre con amigos (dos familias: 4 adultos y 1 niño) ya que era uno de los pocos lugares abiertos el día de Navidad. Estábamos deseando disfrutar del almuerzo y pasar un buen rato, pero la experiencia fue increíblemente decepcionante. En primer lugar, hubo retrasos significativos en nuestros pedidos, y los camareros parecían despistados sobre el menú. Si bien los retrasos pueden ocurrir durante los momentos de mayor actividad, lo que siguió fue completamente inaceptable. Cuando recibimos la factura, hubo un impactante cargo extra de 150 €. Al interrogarnos, nos dijeron que era para un "menú de Navidad", algo de lo que nunca nos informaron. No se mencionó en el menú, no había señalización, y como paseo - en los clientes, no teníamos previo aviso de este costo adicional. Pedimos ver un desglose detallado de lo que pedimos y su precio original. En lugar de ayudar, el joven que decía ser el gerente desestimó groseramente nuestras preocupaciones y amenazó con llamar a la policía si no pagábamos. Su tono era poco profesional y francamente irrespetuoso. Insistió en que el cargo extra se indicaba en el sitio web del restaurante, pero como paseo - en los clientes, esto era irrelevante e inaceptable. Después de esperar 10 minutos, decidimos llamar a la policía nosotros mismos. En este punto, otro hombre (posiblemente el gerente o propietario real) intervino y ofreció a regañadientes un descuento. Good restaurant, great option for both lunch and dinner. Recommend all you can eat course, which consists of 5 rounds and 5 dishes per person per round. There is choice from sushi, chicken, beef, other fish dishes and salads. It was quite busy during Sunday afternoon, a reservation seems required also for lunch.

Two years ago I wrote the following: The all-you-can-eat concept will be familiar. Here too they started working with tablets. The service is friendly and accurate. The food is of excellent quality, delicious. I've been there again and now the experience was a lot less. It was already special that you make a reservation for a certain time and then have to wait another 20 (!) minutes before you get a table. The employees come to your table with the wrong dishes, the dishes you ordered are good, but have decreased in quality. Had to wait an extremely long time for drinks that you cannot order via the tablet. A shocking experience for me. It may be less intense on other days, but I would no longer choose this restaurant on shopping evenings at 7 p.m. Also the fact that an employee came 2 minutes before the timer expired to take the tablet away, while we still had an ordering round and we were waiting for the dishes we had ordered, did not contribute to the atmosphere. . I will go to another sushi restaurant from now on.

There were mice running around. There were droppings everywhere on the ground. When I saw a mouse and reported it to the employee, he said that this is a known problem and they are trying to combat them as best as possible. My girlfriend and I had just started eating and immediately lost our appetite. No compensation was offered and according to the employee it is normal for there to be mice. It is therefore impossible that this will spoil your appetite 🥴. We will never come here again.

Ordered fried rice (with no egg), veggie avocado maki, salmon cream cheese maki, gyoza veggie, gyoza kip (chicken), and wasabi (was charged €0.60 for the packets shown in the photo.. I expected there to be a cup of fresh wasabi if I was charged €0.60). FYI the total was €46.05 for the items shown. My feet ended up getting swollen after this meal 😢 and my friend and I felt very thirsty — usually this means there was MSG in the food 😔 Also it would have been better if the fish was packaged separately from the vegetarian sushi. Don’t get me wrong the food was tasty but I don’t like that there was MSG in it which contributed to the tastiness (my family has been in the restaurant business for over 10 years so I have experience to discern when there is MSG in something) and I really did not like that my feet/ankles swelled up soon after eating this 😫 so I wouldn’t put myself in this situation again…

Delicious food, a well-functioning concept. We had reserved a table, once we arrived at the agreed time, we received the message that our table was not yet available. We had to wait outside for fifteen minutes before we were allowed to take a seat. Strangely enough, there were empty tables in the restaurant with "reserved" signs on them. We also had to wait another fifteen minutes before we could order anything.

Lege schaaltjes stapelde zich op op tafel, moesten vragen om het mee te nemen. Kwaliteit sushi gaat achteruit mega grote sushi's met veel rijst zodat je snel vol zit. Denk dat dit na zoveel jaar de laatste mkeer was dat we bij Sumo markthal waren.....

Liked it very much. Order 5 dishes per person 5 times. Brought to the table. Lots of choice, mainly Japanese cuisine. The ice cream for dessert is adequate in terms of choice, just very minimal in size. Nice service! Some dishes (such as duck) are no longer at the right temperature.

My friend and I stopped by for the all-you-can-eat lunch. We made a reservation the night before, but they have plenty of tables for walk-ins. The all-you-can-eat lunch consists of 5 rounds of 5 dishes per person. The nigiri is served as 1 item. The maki is served as 2 items. So, if you order 1 serving of nigiri, you will get 1 nigiri and if you order 1 serving of maki, you will get 2 makis. Not particularly good value for money. We did not enjoy the food much. We only ordered sushi. We ordered almost all of them (to try) but we did not like any of them. All the nigiris and makis were very edible, but none of them was especially tasty. I did not think the fish (salmon and tuna) tasted very nice. The salmon was okay, but the tuna had a lot of white streaks (connective tissue?) which made it very chewy. And, almost all the makis were covered in a thick layer of sauce (like mayonaise).

It is one of the best sushi restaurants that I've ever been. Their sushi was delicious. Not the best service that I had but it was still pretty good. I recommend this place very much but if your kid doesn't eat sushi they want to make sure that they don't eat it. Especially when you buy non-stop sushi. You can have a nice time with your family and friends. Enjoy your meal 😁

Sticky tables and banisters. Toilets are dirty and not cleaned in between. Food mediocre. Sometimes fried too hard, too much salt, vegetables cut too large. Service slow, which speeds up your time to be seated. And you can therefore order less. 5 rounds for 90 minutes and your food arrives at 20 minutes. Yes, you can earn money quickly. Just forget what you ordered. Little explanation. Shabu Shabu is much better.

We were looking very much forward to eating all you can eat at Sumo. However, after we received our first order with 10 different dishes. We decided that the food quality was thusfar below any kind of taste that we decided to leave. We had to pay €36,- for 10 tasteless mini dishes. Never again, will we eat here.

Delicious dinner, but the all-you-eat concept is not correct. You can only order 5 rounds and this in 90 minutes. Tip would be unlimited rounds in 2 hours.

Had lunch at Sumo in the market hall. Looks fine, but we are used to other sushi places (with the same concept such as shabu shabu) and this is a step back in quality. Unfortunately, I didn't like most of the dishes. Lots of sauce on the sushi, tenderloin tips that were completely fried and a number of things that were just not tasty. In addition, the sushi is on the table so quickly that it could never have been freshly made. The location is beautiful and the staff is great. But I wouldn't recommend Sumo

It was bad, not worth the money. Food was not fresh. Just a very disappointing experience. I was excited to eat Sushi and left feeling betrayed. If you feel like making the worst mistake of your life, come eat here. As you can see I take my sushi seriously. 😅

We had lunch there and they have an extensive menu with a great variety of items including sushi and vegetarian options. Service was prompt. We had the teriyaki beef with fried rice which was way to salty. All in all the dining experience was ok.

There was a mouse in the restaurant, so we had to leave. One of my guests is extremely afraid of mice and it is simply unacceptable in an environment where food is handled. We left a table full of food and drinks behind, after which we simply had to pay the full amount. In the end we got a 10% discount, which was still disproportionate to what we still owed. We were told it is a general problem in the market hall. Sorry, but that's no excuse. Then you have to tell your guests this before they come to eat, because then you leave it to them to choose whether they want to eat there or not. Concealment is a bad thing. Ate here very often, but that is a thing of the past. We only choose animals on the plate, dead that is, and not vermin between the legs.

The food here was very tasty, especially the sushi and hot bowls are highly recommended! The service varied greatly per person, we were mainly served by a very nice man. However, there were also employees who simply threw the food on the table. Still, it was a fun evening, definitely recommended!

Sushi, meat and rice dishes were very good! The first dishes when it wasn't as crowded were quite better than the last rounds though. This lowered the price quality ratio a bit. Enjoyed the food and we were unexpectedly full after 4 rounds already, so don't let the maximum of 5 rounds and smaller sushi portions scare you away. Waiters were kind too, except for one waitress who sometimes just dumped the food without saying anything. The male waiter was very kind!

We wanted to eat from the menu, which we can call "All you can eat" (Pizza Hut used to make a good marketing strategy saying "you can eat unlimited"). You make 5 choices among dozens of options on your iPad, and you can order everything on the menu in 5 cycles within 40 minutes. You will already be full before you reach the 5th cycle. There is nothing I can say bad about the menu, what I liked the most was the sushi. I would recommend. It's a nice experience. I wonder why there isn't this kind of experience in Turkey. I think it would definitely work in Istanbul. The price is reasonable, it's a concept place, the ambiance is nice, the service is good, it's a great idea in the heart of the city. I will go again.

First of all, the Markthal itself is an architectural masterpiece. Very inviting from outside and inside. Thank God I don't live very close to it. I think that would go beyond the scope of my scale ;) a diverse number of different food spots, reminiscent of the food festivals, only with a fixed location. An explosion of different smells and perceptions. The sumo itself definitely stands out. A wonderful ambience “under cherry trees”. In order not to give any room for false interpretation: When it comes to the sushi restaurants we visit, we always differentiate between a restaurant that only caters to sushi and an all-you-can-eat restaurant with a tray. Simply because the priorities are weighted differently. In this respect, Sumo is far ahead of all the restaurants with the same concept that we visited in Germany. Significantly better quality, more interesting creations, larger portions, good cooking time for the vegetables and not monotonous sushi for mass consumption. The side dishes were also quite good. What blew me away, however, was the sliced ​​rib-eye steak with a spicy, spicy marinade/sauce. Very convincing. Very juicy and yet cooked and not too dry. Big compliments to the chef on this dish.

I went to Sumo today and I can honestly say it was the most disappointing and disgusting experience ever. Not only did I find worms in my food, but the manager didn't even come by to apologize. As if that wasn't enough, we still had to pay 75% of the bill, as if it is normal to pay for food with pests. I am deeply disappointed in the quality of service and lack of respect for the customer. Definitely not recommended!

The food was tasty! Only we ordered a mocktail and they gave a cocktail. That's not very good for a 13 year old child. I also asked if they could do something for it, but they said, "It's just a little." I have a bad stomach ache now. I hope it doesn't happen to the next customers. BEWARE, if you order a mocktail and you see a slice of orange in your drink, that means it it's a cocktail.

We regularly pick up sushi and other things here, such as salads, gyoza and other hot dishes and it is always delicious. The sushi is fresh and tastes really great! The service is great and there is always a nice extra!

I like sushi here. Always put some small present with extra sushi. Tina fried roll for me is the best.
