Had a great meal again, quick service and preparation. A bit bland, admittedly, but compensated for with sambal.

The food, service, and atmosphere used to be better.. Now it's okay. Nothing wrong with it.!

Had a good meal. You could take the leftovers home afterwards. Reasonable prices. You pay extra for a plastic container. The ambiance is as you would expect. Certainly not boring, but not overly dressed up either. But that is exactly what I like.

Very cold chicken is not nice and dry.

A word of caution for vegetarians: some dishes are labeled as containing shrimp... And the vegetarian nasi, which is supposed to be fried rice, is actually plain white rice... we pointed this out to the server, but nothing changed. In short, it's not bad, but the descriptions are misleading. We won't be going back.

Bad service - they ask you for a tip. If I want to tip I will, do not appreciate being told to tip. Stop doing this.

Delicious Surinamese-Chinese food

I have been here several times and the food is always good, but unfortunately the service is truly scandalous.. I had only asked if we could sit by the window because it was quieter there, and a woman working there got angry and slammed our cutlery and placemats on the table.. In hindsight, we should have left right away, but I always enjoy eating here and it was also my birthday that day, so I just really wanted something to eat. I asked why she was acting like that? And she just looked at me and walked away? It was all very strange..

The food was fine, but the service was disappointing. It was lunchtime during the week and there were plenty of free tables. I was not allowed to sit at a table closer to the window because they were supposedly for four people and I was alone. I would have understood if the restaurant had been busy, but it clearly wasn’t. Shortly afterwards, several men dining alone were seated at tables for four without any issue. The waitress was cold and unfriendly toward me the entire time until I asked for the bill. Overall, I did not feel welcome at all and would recommend they find a new waitress who isn’t rude.

I’ve been eating here for years, but recently you’re practically forced to pay a tip. After settling the bill, a card reader is shoved under your nose again with the emphatic question of how much you want to pay. The rude part is that after paying, you have to withdraw the tip amount separately and enter the amount yourself, so you are tempted to give a higher amount. A bit of a shame considering the shitty service you always get there. The waitress walks away before you’ve finished ordering, and then you wait at least 45 minutes for your food and drinks. The portions are also getting smaller and smaller. I’m never coming back here.

Delivery via Thuisbezorgd went wrong. Kam Yin just refers you to someone else, doesn't feel responsible, and leaves you stranded without food. No "how unfortunate, we'll sort it out, sir." Never again.

Takeout is old and expensive.👎 But for the location, this is actually more affordable compared to other restaurants, and with more flavor..✅️ Surinamese-Chinese food always gives you energy before and after a night out, thanks to the spices..🥡🍛 This is meant more for local people, and not aimed at tourists.

Kam Yin is my favorite Chinese restaurant so far. The food is really tasty and the prices are good, which makes it extra attractive. However, it is a shame that the portions are so large, making sharing actually difficult. The staff is friendly and provides pleasant service. All in all, a good spot for a nice meal after a day in Amsterdam.

It a shame it's in a good location had ordered number 51 noodles with chicken on top and two pieces of slice onion and a small slice of cucumber. The food wasn't consistently hot which was warmed up in a microwave and the proof of that was the cucumber was shrivelled up. Big disappointment for the price they charge and reheated food such a shame considering it's in a prime location

As a Surinamer, I can start by saying that the baka bana’s weren't bakabana’s at all. They were soggy with oil and made from hard banana; they simply tasted like shoe soles. And the peanut sauce was sickening 🤮. Then the main courses: white nasi, brown nasi, and tjauw min, all with moksi metie. INEDIBLE!! You couldn't even get a few bites of rice down your throat without a drink, and the meat was tough and had a weird taste. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!! Because it really was inedible. I understand now why this place was closed by the municipality.

Food was great but when it comes to the payment ⚠️⚠️ first of all out of all the restaurant they are the only one directly asking for a tip, I declined at the restaurant but when I checked afterwards extra money was charged! (With no mention of service charge, administration fee etc) This is not right, the lack of honesty will bring this business down, please contact me to make things right if it's just a mistake.

Good food I say go if you're in the neighborhood Sandwich or meal Sa Amsterdam

The Chinese dishes are delicious. Well-seasoned. However, the non-Chinese dishes are a bit less impressive, but still edible. It can get quite busy in the evening. As a result, you have to wait a bit longer for a table, even though you had a reservation. This does not detract from the fact that the ladies remain friendly. They keep smiling. If you want to eat good Chinese food, this place is highly recommended. The prices are really reasonable.

The place is very basic and poorly maintained. My dish arrived very cold, with lukewarm, almost cold meat and very dry rice with very little seasoning. Before sitting down, we witnessed a customer being practically forced to leave by making him pay and handing him the drink he hadn't yet finished.

Because the restaurant was packed the night before, we went in with high hopes the next day. It was by far the worst Asian food we've ever had. The chicken skewers were practically invisible under the peanut sauce (?). All the main courses seemed to have been cooked in the same broth and then dressed with the corresponding sauce – they had hardly any flavor. The rice was unsalted. Simply awful. The only positive thing: it was quick 🙈

I have been coming here since 1992. I remember the owner from Suriname as a little boy. The restaurant has grown over the years. The food has always remained just as delicious.

Very Bad! Ordered a combination dish of Chicken Curry, Babi Pangang, and Tjauwmin. Two small bowls with very little meat in excessive sauce. The Tjauwmin was lukewarm and tasteless. Sent it back, received it back on the table after warming it up in the microwave... paid 17.70 for this, and another 3.70 was added on top for the lukewarm Tjauwmin... Afterwards, we were asked for a tip; what audacity and very rude. A customer gives a tip of their own accord and you shouldn't have to ask for it. Never experienced anything like this before. Avoid this restaurant!

Food was okay. The service is very unfriendly and impolite. No greeting from the waitress. You have to sit where you are seated and are not allowed to change your seat otherwise you will reprimanded for asking. Would rather avoid this restaurant if you are have better options nearby.

Unfriendly service, very uninviting, and the rice was simply unappetizing. The beer was sweetish. You have to ask for a glass with your bottle or can. No atmosphere.

Tasteless food, basic and not worth the money

I can't give it fewer stars because I can't... Chinese restaurants usually don't disappoint, but this time it was the worst place I've ever eaten. They reheat the food in a microwave; it's not fresh, they don't prepare it there. They take pre-cooked rice out of bags on the floor and reheat it, then serve it to you. The noodles were dry, and the rice tasted like plastic... the soup was tasteless... In short, those were the two most expensive beers of my life, since they took the food away just as they served it to us... I absolutely do not recommend it... go to any Italian restaurant you see instead.

The portions were huge, and the service was quite good. I really liked the atmosphere. The fried noodles had a generous amount of meat and were delicious 😋 The business was booming! However, I still prefer the kind of fried rice from Taiwan, which is more chewy and springy.

This was honestly one of the saddest reviews I’ve ever had to write. When I used to live in the Netherlands, this place was my spot. I lived in Haarlem and would take a 20-minute trip just to come here. Anytime I could afford it, I would splurge on their food. It was that good. Sometimes, if I had friends visiting Amsterdam, I’d ask them to bring me food from here and I’d pay them back. The food was always so tasty and felt like a true representation of Surinamese cuisine. I loved this place so much that my friends even brought me here for my birthday once. I’m talking about almost two decades ago. So when I finally came back a couple of months ago, I was excited. I couldn’t wait to show this place to my partner and let him try authentic Surinamese food other than what I make at home. What a disappointment. The bami and nasi goreng, which used to be my favorites, were super bland. The rice was overly dry, with some parts nearly undercooked. The food clearly did not taste fresh, just reheated. The meats, all of them, were overly dry and bland as well. I had hyped this place up so much that I actually felt embarrassed. I can’t really say much about the customer service. The place was extremely packed, and the staff seemed focused on just getting through the workload. There wasn’t much room for friendliness or attentiveness, but honestly, I wasn’t there for that anyway. There was also a very long wait, but for such a historic place in the heart of Amsterdam, that was to be expected. The food, though, was far beyond disappointing. To their credit, they had a great run.

We wanted to eat here, but the staff was so incredibly unenthusiastic and unfriendly that we left. It's also not dog-friendly at all! We were seated right in front of the entrance (presumably because of our small dog), even though the place felt practically empty. All the other guests were seated much more centrally inside, which made us feel unwelcome. The server seemed to be avoiding us, not even saying hello. Menus and cutlery were more or less thrown at us, as the table wasn't even set. A real shame.

We ordered the wrong soup. We wanted saoto soup, but we ordered chicken soup. It happens. The woman with glasses who helped us was so rude. She even threw the menu on the table with a grumpy face. She said, "Yes, we can't return the chicken soup (by the way, it's mostly just water), so we ordered just one saoto soup. The food was really bad, and the service was unfriendly. NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN!!

Nothing particularly good or bad, although as a Cantonese person, I was very confused walking in, seeing essentially a Cantonese menu, and hearing Cantonese everywhere. Turns out, there was a lot of Cantonese migrants to Suriname, and significantly influenced Suriname cuisine. As an HK person, it really just felt like I went back to an HK restaurant lol. Nothing wrong with it, though. Flavours are extremely similar to that of an HK restaurant, iirc just a tiny bit sweeter on the food than usual in HK. Just figured I’d throw this out there for other Cantonese / Chinese people who aren’t familiar with Suriname cuisine.

I've been coming here for years; I can't quite remember, but the service is terrible. Cutlery is just thrown on the table, and if you want to order something extra, you have to find someone yourself or walk over while they stare at you. The food is absolutely flawless!

Delicious, lots of it for little money... We ate Moksi meti with a group of 7 and everyone enjoyed a delicious meal. Highly recommended!

Rude staff, food came out 10 minutes apart, put the wrong meal down in front of me then blamed me for eating my friends meal. My Wife's meal came after the rest of us had finished eating. Food wasn't even that good when it arrived.

1 p.m. on a Sunday, not many people so the service was quite quick! My noodle dish with meat, number 52 on the menu (noodles + chicken, pork, sausage...) was very generous and delicious!

Food is good but the atmosphere is more like a all you can eat.

When ordering a special portion, don't expect too much. For example, a special nasi chicken dish: you get some nasi on a plate with a few pieces of chicken on top. That's it! Don't expect a large plate with plenty of nasi or chicken. Other than that, the food is delicious.

Very good food. Standard Chinese service, fast and without much small talk. The taste of the food makes up for it.

You shouldn't expect too much from it

The food was alright, nothing too special or spectacular. Compared to other restaurants, its quite cheap and the amount that is given, it is very economical to eat here. I would recommend it to try it out, but do not expect too much from it, its solid but nothing fancy.

We stumbled upon this place completely by chance. It was raining, and from the window, we saw a plate of food that looked quite good. We decided to go in, and it turned out to be a good choice. The portions were generous, the food tasted great, and the price was reasonable. Compared to other restaurants in the area, we ate very well for a good price. The menu is extensive, with plenty of options to choose from.

Extremely frustrating experience. After waiting over 40 minutes, we were ignored while customers who came later were immediately helped. We tried to address this politely, but the staff's response was rude and careless. This kind of service ruins the whole dining experience.

Very unfriendly attitude upon arrival. They wanted to place me next to the restroom entrance. I really wanted to, but the lady immediately looked angry. When I ordered, the lady came to me... "Yes?" she asked, half-snarling. During the meal, there was nothing but Chinese shouting between the waitstaff. Rude to customers, but they didn't seem to care. The food was mediocre. Small portion of rice. The rest seemed reheated. I also noticed all the new staff compared to last year. No tip was given. She could keep the mint she had ready!

The food was really bad. It only tasted good with Maggi seasoning (there wasn't even soy sauce). The atmosphere is okay, but I wouldn't eat there again.

I first visited it in '96 and it's still the same; you can eat well at a reasonable price for places like this.

Kam yin is one of the most delicious, well-known Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam.

The restaurant is spacious and looks clean. You're not sitting too close to other guests and have plenty of privacy between tables, which is very pleasant. The menu is very extensive and includes plenty of vegetarian options. There are plenty of staff milling around, so you're served quickly. The food was on the table within five minutes, which is of course very quick and convenient when you're in a hurry, although I wasn't entirely sure if that's a positive sign of freshness. I had the vegetarian option; it was fine, but not exceptional. The portions are very generous, though. The restrooms are also clean and tidy. My only complaint was that our plates were cleared away quite quickly, which made me feel a bit rushed. I would have preferred to stay a bit longer and relax afterward. I'd read reviews beforehand that said the waitress would add a tip to the bill, but that wasn't the case for us. All in all, a pleasant experience with many positives, especially regarding the space, selection, and hygiene, with some minor areas for improvement regarding the speed of service.

Don’t ever go here! we came over from uk and strolled past thought it looked a chill chinese the food came out less than 5 minutes after we ordered. food was obviously microwaved and been cooked for days. veg was sad. for 2 of us it cost 75€, they could clearly see we hadn’t eaten and didn’t care was happy charging us full price.

The food was just okay, lukewarm, with bones in the meat and barely seasoned. However, despite the restaurant being full, it was served within 5 minutes. The service was friendly and quick, but lacked warmth. Large portions at comparatively low prices for the area.

I'd like to sincerely thank the lady who set aside a calendar for me on Saturday, December 27th, which I was able to pick up on Monday, December 29th. I'm going to enjoy it again in the coming year. Along with the food, which I'll happily take home with me whenever I'm in the area. EXCELLENT!!!

Very busy!! Expect a wait to be seated. Reservations are accepted. The food is fresh and the portions are truly ample. Lots of tables, so lots of people, and lots of noise. It made me hyper. We'll definitely go back to around 5:30, when it was incredibly busy.

Since when is it normal in the Netherlands to beg for a tip? Tipping is not normal and not compulsory in the Netherlands. Very annoying behavior, first time I have seen this at a Dutch restaurant. Food is good but it depends on what you get

Frozen and bad food, terrible service, and everything was filthy. Don't be fooled by the number of people inside if you walk around outside.
