Surinaams Chinees Restaurant Kam Yin in Burgwallen-Oude Zijde

We had a great meal here! It is very close to Central Station, open late, and was very convenient to the canal tours. The food was delicious and service great. Idk why someone had a complaint about accessing the bathrooms. They were not locked and if you are a customer, I am sure there is no problem. They are close to the Redlight District , so I really doubt that want any random person walking past on their way to or from the Redlight District stopping in to use the BR. Our family loved the restaurant!

Beyond bad... If you want a nice, clean meal, you shouldn't go here. Despite saying beforehand that we wanted to pay individually, it apparently wasn't possible... I wouldn't go here.

Came here for a late night feast and it did not disappoint. The portions were massive! All the meat was cooked so well, we had beef, pork and chicken in different dishes and it was all so good. We got a thing where you get two dishes plus rice each, honestly one would have done the two of us, we made a good effort to finish though lol

Hopeless people called five times, no one answered. I placed an order for it to arrive at 6:40 PM, and after an hour, they still weren't there. It's ridiculous; they should close the store again. The food arrived cold and was thrown away. I called to report it, and no one answered.

Delicious Surinamese-Chinese food. Price/quality ratio is perfect, a good roti-chicken you pay here about 10 euros. The Surinamese bami-chicken special is also recommended. In addition, the service is very friendly and the food is on the table quickly.

The food was overall tasty, except for the side dishes which were surprisingly bland for asian cuisine (I don't recommend the white rice; the fried rice was a bit better). The first server who gave us our seats was closed off, but the second server who took care of us for the rest of the meal was very nice. I had the set menu, which is decently priced given how varied its contents were, and I got the jasmin tea which was pleasantly fragrant.

The food was very mid — bland, lacking any real flavor, and overall just not enjoyable. The prices were okay, but honestly, I’d rather pay a bit more elsewhere for food that’s actually good and worth eating. The experience was just very “meh.” Also, when we paid in cash, the server gave us less change than she should have — it seemed like she just kept a bit as a tip without asking.

Good address for Asian food. Contrary to the negative reviews, I found this restaurant to be quite good. Great value for money, and fast, pleasant service. I only found the meats a little dry, but that's about it.

Today tjauwmin moksie and nasi with shrimp, chicken and vegetables Disappointing no taste for the nasi used a lot of oil!!!! Significantly deteriorated. I was looking forward to delicious Surinamese food. Service also not to speak of. Very unfortunate! For me the last time.

An authentic Asian cuisine with delicious large portions that will leave no room for dessert. Prices are very reasonable compared to other options in the neighborhood. I ate the noodle with pork and chicken, the meats were well cooked, tender and juicy. Can't find any downside, just come!

Food is good. But that’s all, not delicious or amazing. Enough to satisfy, but not mind blowing. Staff is not the kindest, understand they have many people and are in a hurry, but we didn’t feel welcomed. Not expensive, price is very good (Amsterdam wise) if your traveling on a budget

The staff is holly rude! Just come and ask nicely for 1 person but she drags the table so hard and even not smile! After just finished my food she immediately gives me the Bill (in fact the one beside me who asked for the bill) and she drags again the chair in front of me so hard to give me the EDC machine! Crazy

I went for dinner yesterday with a friend. The food tastes good, service is good and price is fair but today both my friend and I have extreme diarrhea. It's a pitty, cause food was nice but we won't repeat. Seems we are having some sort of intoxication as we did not have anything spicy.

Yesterday I ordered a nasi Moksi Meti and got sick while eating it. I had to go to the hospital for food poisoning at my own expense, was admitted there and therefore also had to pay my own risk. This bowl of nasi unfortunately cost me a lot and put me in a very bad situation. I had to call in sick for today and tomorrow because I have to throw up non-stop. This did not taste fresh and tasted like it had been stored for a while and reheated, I got sick after half the bowl of nasi. I have really lost confidence in eating outside, hygiene in restaurants after this time. I want my money back at least. Too bad.

We discovered this place by chance. It's very similar to the Asian restaurants in Spain, although the amount of food is larger and the price is similar. We ordered spicy duck with vegetables, which was very good. However, the rice in the gratin chicken dish was dry and overcooked, and seemed to have been cooked for a long time. The service was actually quite good, as was the cleanliness.

We visited this place recently. My food was great, but unfortunately, my friend’s dish was far too salty, and she couldn’t finish it because of the taste. On top of that, the server seemed to be in a rush she kept asking if we were done even while we were still eating. It made us feel pressured and uncomfortable, so we decided to cut our meal short and leave. It was frustrating because we just wanted to enjoy our food without feeling rushed.

They have a very big menu so there’s lots of options to choose from! I like their food and it’s also not expensive. I recommend this if you want a quick bite.

Horrible experience! Avoid here ! Ordered takeaway 4 x number 52 very simple order ! 4 of the same thing ! We live in lelystad picked this up after a day in Amsterdam to heat up once home. Got home and all 4 dishes the wrong thing ! When The i called the lady actually remembered me and remembered that she indeed did make a mistake charging me for what i ordered but told kitchen wrong thing ! There is even writting on my reciept becausee she put the wrong code but corrected it with pen ( in non english) but corrected it to something else wrong ! Called recieved the option to come back now with the old food and get the correct food or a refund of €6 in the future (only the difference of the dish we ordered and dish we received). No compensation for the fact we didn't want nor order this food ! We can not travel 2 hours with the old food to replace on your mistake ! They even admitted they made the mistake that they remembered my order and that it was made incorrectly. Perhaps if the staff were less interested in ignoring customwrs and chatting during taking orders they wpuld not make incorrect orders ! I declined both options as 6 euro isn't worth the time of day to travel back to amsterdam ! Won't return. Also at service stood at the counter while staff chatted for a good 5 mins before assisting with the order ! Poor experience all around and the chicken we did not order was dry and disappointing, so we ended up not eating the chicken. So we essentially paid €44 to eat 4 x only bami as bami was in our original order just not with the chicken ! They obviously planed to resell the old food i would return as i offered to freeze it and return it on a day i could get back to amsterdam but they declined this and said i must bring it today for refund so I would not trust this place with food ! Who knows where it's been when they are asking ppl to return it today they are 1000 % reheating this to resell ! People could do anything to that food and return it !🤢

I ordered a Tjauwmin Moksi Meti, once I got home, I started eating, but the pork was rock hard, I couldn't chew it properly, just tough. First thing that was good was the chicken. The Tjauwmin literally tastes like oil. This was really disappointing, because after years I came to order food from Kam Yin again. But this was also the last time!

Chicken soup partner had sour aftertaste. Spoiled? Stupid: eaten anyway. Don't have to: intestinal complaints all night long!

Very good restaurant with delicious, varied food and good prices. You have very diverse dishes and bottled and fresh drinks that taste very good. A pleasant experience for new palates and great flavor for those who like this cuisine. There were a lot of people when I went so the poor waitresses had a lot to do. Still, a great place to eat something different.

I visited this place twice, the first was on 04/13/25, where I was served by a lady who was very kind and empathetic when it came to understanding each other's different languages, UNFORTUNATELY this day 04/14/25 I decided to return with my family because we really liked the food, but I was served by another lady who from the moment she received us her countenance showed a lack of empathy, she was annoyed and spoke to us in a terrible way, she did not have the slightest intention of taking our order, in reality we are tourists, we do not speak her language, she clarified that there were not many people at the tables to say that because it was crowded with people her compartment was like that, what a disappointing attitude from that person.

Despite the huge number of tables service was super fast With regards to the food it felt something was amiss. The chicken was a little dry, the spices were a little undercooked, the gravy a little runny. Compared to the price the volume was excellent.

Had a dinner with my friend. Easy place to access from Amsterdam central station. Food is decent and fresh. The service was good. This place is worth for the money.

I ordered crispy duck, which consisted of 80% bones... when I asked why there were so many bones, the waitress said the only thing on the menu was bones. Yes, it says in brackets, but my point wasn't that there were bones, but rather that I had barely edible meat. The sauce with the rice was also tasteless. The Sichuanente, a colleague had ordered, was good, but it wasn't particularly...

For heaven's sake...I knew what to expect before we went in. But since most of the group just wanted to eat, I went along with it. And I wasn't disappointed. We didn't even have to wait 5 minutes after ordering and the food was already ready for 8 people. As always, the food was typical of this type of restaurant: the taste was unreasonable, the temperature of the food was lukewarm, the meat had cartilage and tendons, and of course the good old flavor enhancer couldn't be missing... I was already hungry, but I preferred to starve and left everything behind after a few bites (I wasn't the only one). At least the beer was good. But in the end I didn't want to drink even that anymore, I just wanted to get out of the store. The highlight of the evening was that two mice were running back and forth in the restaurant. I love animals, but I don't have to meet them in a restaurant :-)

Worst restaurant and worst dinner experience… staff was arrogant… we informed them politely that there was hair in our.. the lady said maybe we pit the hair in our soup… she even look closely at tje hair if we have same color… like what the… never ever will eat in that worst restaurant again…

If you’ve had Chinese food in China or even decent Chinese food I fear this place will leave you disappointed. The food was bland tbh and not flavorful. Didn’t even taste salted. We ordered the 3 menu items recommended by our server and left disappointed. Food came out five minutes after we ordered, which is not a great thing in my opinion. Would not recommend. Server was very kind though.

The food is delicious! The service is fantastic, the ladies and gentlemen there serve you with a smile! And the atmosphere is always pleasant! Food for a fantastic price! (My choice: Nasi Moxi Meti + Fernandes, Total: €14.80)! Pretty cheap for that delicious food if you ask me! Kam Yin, See you soon!

One of the worst Asian restaurants I’ve ever eaten at, you order & 5 minutes later the food is already there… it was very dry & didn’t taste good at all

The staff mixed up the orders, telling me they were yours. Each person got their food at a different time, about 20 minutes apart. The waitresses are very rude and arrogant. They don't want to listen to the customer. The food is ok, but the rest is a disaster. I would love to give negative points, but I can't.

We were hesitant to go to this restaurant given the other negative reviews. We nevertheless went there because the restaurant was close to our hotel. We ordered Peking duck noodle soups, rice and fried noodles and were not disappointed.

While exploring Amsterdam, I randomly met a Chinese girl who recommended this spot, so we decided to give it a try and I’m glad we did! I had the saoto soup, which was unique and delicious, while my friends tried the number 31 (steamed rice with pom) and loved it It was something totally new for me. The food was great overall, though the rice could’ve been better. The portions are generous, and the prices are really affordable for what you get. If you’re looking for a tasty, budget friendly spot in Amsterdam, this place is a great option! 3.5/5!

From the outside, Surinaams seemed like an appealing place to eat. However, as soon as we sat down, we realised we had made a mistake. The food was mediocre, completely lacking in flavour, and the cucumber garnish looked old and unappetising. If you’re after Chinese food, you’re better off going to a street vendor. Sadly, we felt we had wasted an hour of our already short break here. There are plenty of better places to eat in Amsterdam.

Check your bill! They like to overcharge.

For the past 7-8 months I ate in this restaurant at least twice a week. Some waitresses really need to smile and change attitude specially when they see you’re eating there a lot. The last times the quality of the food wasn’t good. Yesterday I went there to have Bami Moksi Meti. The meat was very light color and not grilled like always. There was a long hair in my food (It can happen I know) but the waitress told me that it can be mine although she saw I’m a man with short black hair and the hair was very long and light. She stood next to me without offering any solution which made me feel very weird. Even street food service is not like this!!!!! I asked her to remove the plate before I feel more nauseous. When paying she said okay no need to pay your drink €3.20 I’m never ever threated like this in any restaurant. Shamefull! Not coming back

Great address for a simple meal for 10 euros. Chinese teapot is 3 euros. Had the roti chicken off the bone. Chicken, sauce and vegetables were absolutely delicious, the roti itself was a bit dry with hard edges.

The food is quite good. The prices are even greater. It's insane the quantity of meat in every plate. Very happy about that. However, the service could be better. They insist on tips and don't care if the answer is a clear "no". Also there's no ambient/ background music to make the space feel fuller.

They recommended this place to us and it has been a total disappointment and a robbery. The food was average and the 750 ml bottle of water cost €7.50, which was almost like some of the dishes. Without a doubt, I would never return.

Food is so so. The place is crowded for dinner. I ordered beef with black bean sauce and it is ok not that bad but it could be better. The seats and tables also very small spaces due to sharing tables and lots of people coming in and out

Speaking as an Asian American, this was one of the best takes on char siu/siu yook rice plates that we’ve ever had, with a Surinamese/Chinese spin added on it. We also order an additional bowl of moksi sauce to pour onto our rice plate which added an additional level of flavor. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection and the staff was especially welcoming to everyone. The saoto soup was also great and hearty for days when your throat is yearning for something healthier. Go here ASAP!!!

Stop charging for tips/tips! The meals are mediocre to good. The only annoying thing is that the waitresses ask you if you need to add a tip when paying. That must come from me and not be suggested by you. Serving meals is part of the work for which you are paid. This is not America where waitresses make $2 an hour and therefore rely on tips. You earn a normal salary and only if I am very satisfied with your extra service, the ambiance or the food can I determine whether a tip is appropriate. You also immediately show in your behavior if no tip is given. Train your staff that tipping depends on how they provide extra service to their customers. It is not a given.

I have also eaten at this restaurant several times, and this review is actually more of a warning than a review, because of the 6 times I ate here I got sick 3 times.... Last Saturday I became so immensely ill that I actually should have gone to the hospital, my fever was higher than the temperature of the food that I had to have sent back afterwards... Furthermore, the food is extremely tasty, so if your stomach can handle it, it is the best in terms of price and quality. best place in Amsterdam!

The food was terrible, dry and tasteless. The chicken was dry and had more bones than meat. The noodles were not seasoned at all and sandy. The staff also leaves a lot to be desired. We almost had to chase the waitresses and wait before taking our order. And the icing on the cake when paying when we just wanted to go very far from this restaurant the waitress asks us for a tip very sharply after a first no she tells us that we have to enter the amount on the machine then after a second no we gave up to get away from this nightmare as quickly as possible.

Food is always of top quality. Especially for these prices. We come here regularly. Only the service could sometimes be a bit friendlier. After all, the customer remains king.

Abundant and well-priced food in the city center

One of my favorite places to eat in Amsterdam. Ever since I was younger I have loved coming here for a tasty plate of Surinamese food and/or takeaway. Simply delicious!

Very bad service. I was in shock …

We came to the help desc and asked if we could just sit and drink for a while(it was 4 pm) and she agreed but when it came time to order we were pressured to order some food and we were told to get out if we didn't eat. So we asked if we could just stay 2 more minutes to wait on a friend who had gone out to take a call but the lady took our menus et almost our luggage and told us to go. I assume this is not always the case in the restaurant but this was really not necessary. Bad.

Staff are incredibly friendly and hospitable. You don't have to wait too long for a seat in the restaurant. The chicken curry sandwich had a good taste, but I thought it was a pity that it was a tough sandwich. The black pudding has been kept warm for a very long time. You could really taste that. I also had a lot of trouble with several flies. After fifteen minutes my stomach was gurgling and I had severe diarrhea. Maybe this is personal, but for me this is not necessary again. The toilet doors in the men's toilet were sprayed with graffiti. Well kick. Overall: I wouldn't eat there again.

Ok food and fair prices, but if I could give zero stars for the service, I definitely would. The staff is extremely unprepared to deal with customers. We were still eating at the restaurant, and they simply wanted to kick us out of the table. In the end, they even demanded a tip for their (terrible) service.
