Surinaams Chinees Restaurant Kam Yin in Burgwallen-Oude Zijde

I visited this place twice, the first was on 04/13/25, where I was served by a lady who was very kind and empathetic when it came to understanding each other's different languages, UNFORTUNATELY this day 04/14/25 I decided to return with my family because we really liked the food, but I was served by another lady who from the moment she received us her countenance showed a lack of empathy, she was annoyed and spoke to us in a terrible way, she did not have the slightest intention of taking our order, in reality we are tourists, we do not speak her language, she clarified that there were not many people at the tables to say that because it was crowded with people her compartment was like that, what a disappointing attitude from that person.

Despite the huge number of tables service was super fast With regards to the food it felt something was amiss. The chicken was a little dry, the spices were a little undercooked, the gravy a little runny. Compared to the price the volume was excellent.

Had a dinner with my friend. Easy place to access from Amsterdam central station. Food is decent and fresh. The service was good. This place is worth for the money.

I ordered crispy duck, which consisted of 80% bones... when I asked why there were so many bones, the waitress said the only thing on the menu was bones. Yes, it says in brackets, but my point wasn't that there were bones, but rather that I had barely edible meat. The sauce with the rice was also tasteless. The Sichuanente, a colleague had ordered, was good, but it wasn't particularly...

For heaven's sake...I knew what to expect before we went in. But since most of the group just wanted to eat, I went along with it. And I wasn't disappointed. We didn't even have to wait 5 minutes after ordering and the food was already ready for 8 people. As always, the food was typical of this type of restaurant: the taste was unreasonable, the temperature of the food was lukewarm, the meat had cartilage and tendons, and of course the good old flavor enhancer couldn't be missing... I was already hungry, but I preferred to starve and left everything behind after a few bites (I wasn't the only one). At least the beer was good. But in the end I didn't want to drink even that anymore, I just wanted to get out of the store. The highlight of the evening was that two mice were running back and forth in the restaurant. I love animals, but I don't have to meet them in a restaurant :-)

Worst restaurant and worst dinner experience… staff was arrogant… we informed them politely that there was hair in our.. the lady said maybe we pit the hair in our soup… she even look closely at tje hair if we have same color… like what the… never ever will eat in that worst restaurant again…

If you want good and affordable food, you should go here.

If you’ve had Chinese food in China or even decent Chinese food I fear this place will leave you disappointed. The food was bland tbh and not flavorful. Didn’t even taste salted. We ordered the 3 menu items recommended by our server and left disappointed. Food came out five minutes after we ordered, which is not a great thing in my opinion. Would not recommend. Server was very kind though.

Delicious and varied dishes, the name Suriname caught our attention.

The food is delicious! The service is fantastic, the ladies and gentlemen there serve you with a smile! And the atmosphere is always pleasant! Food for a fantastic price! (My choice: Nasi Moxi Meti + Fernandes, Total: €14.80)! Pretty cheap for that delicious food if you ask me! Kam Yin, See you soon!

I know the map here well. Fast service, consistent quality. And...the prices (for what you get) are very good!

Food bland, service ok, overpriced

This place has to be the worst chinese we've ever had! Staff was rude and inpatient Food arrived after 5 minutes for four dishes, tasteless and disappointing

One of the worst Asian restaurants I’ve ever eaten at, you order & 5 minutes later the food is already there… it was very dry & didn’t taste good at all

The staff mixed up the orders, telling me they were yours. Each person got their food at a different time, about 20 minutes apart. The waitresses are very rude and arrogant. They don't want to listen to the customer. The food is ok, but the rest is a disaster. I would love to give negative points, but I can't.

We were hesitant to go to this restaurant given the other negative reviews. We nevertheless went there because the restaurant was close to our hotel. We ordered Peking duck noodle soups, rice and fried noodles and were not disappointed.

While exploring Amsterdam, I randomly met a Chinese girl who recommended this spot, so we decided to give it a try and I’m glad we did! I had the saoto soup, which was unique and delicious, while my friends tried the number 31 (steamed rice with pom) and loved it It was something totally new for me. The food was great overall, though the rice could’ve been better. The portions are generous, and the prices are really affordable for what you get. If you’re looking for a tasty, budget friendly spot in Amsterdam, this place is a great option! 3.5/5!

From the outside, Surinaams seemed like an appealing place to eat. However, as soon as we sat down, we realised we had made a mistake. The food was mediocre, completely lacking in flavour, and the cucumber garnish looked old and unappetising. If you’re after Chinese food, you’re better off going to a street vendor. Sadly, we felt we had wasted an hour of our already short break here. There are plenty of better places to eat in Amsterdam.

Check your bill! They like to overcharge.

For the past 7-8 months I ate in this restaurant at least twice a week. Some waitresses really need to smile and change attitude specially when they see you’re eating there a lot. The last times the quality of the food wasn’t good. Yesterday I went there to have Bami Moksi Meti. The meat was very light color and not grilled like always. There was a long hair in my food (It can happen I know) but the waitress told me that it can be mine although she saw I’m a man with short black hair and the hair was very long and light. She stood next to me without offering any solution which made me feel very weird. Even street food service is not like this!!!!! I asked her to remove the plate before I feel more nauseous. When paying she said okay no need to pay your drink €3.20 I’m never ever threated like this in any restaurant. Shamefull! Not coming back

Very good value. €11.50 for Surinamese fried rice with charsiu and roasted chicken. Menu is very diverse as well.

Great address for a simple meal for 10 euros. Chinese teapot is 3 euros. Had the roti chicken off the bone. Chicken, sauce and vegetables were absolutely delicious, the roti itself was a bit dry with hard edges.

The food is quite good. The prices are even greater. It's insane the quantity of meat in every plate. Very happy about that. However, the service could be better. They insist on tips and don't care if the answer is a clear "no". Also there's no ambient/ background music to make the space feel fuller.

Had a delicious meal at Kam Yin. Friendly staff, not expensive and fast service. The atmosphere could be a bit better if they did something about the decoration, but that doesn't spoil the fun any further. Enough vegan options, very nice!

They recommended this place to us and it has been a total disappointment and a robbery. The food was average and the 750 ml bottle of water cost €7.50, which was almost like some of the dishes. Without a doubt, I would never return.

Food is so so. The place is crowded for dinner. I ordered beef with black bean sauce and it is ok not that bad but it could be better. The seats and tables also very small spaces due to sharing tables and lots of people coming in and out

Stop charging for tips/tips! The meals are mediocre to good. The only annoying thing is that the waitresses ask you if you need to add a tip when paying. That must come from me and not be suggested by you. Serving meals is part of the work for which you are paid. This is not America where waitresses make $2 an hour and therefore rely on tips. You earn a normal salary and only if I am very satisfied with your extra service, the ambiance or the food can I determine whether a tip is appropriate. You also immediately show in your behavior if no tip is given. Train your staff that tipping depends on how they provide extra service to their customers. It is not a given.

Speaking as an Asian American, this was one of the best takes on char siu/siu yook rice plates that we’ve ever had, with a Surinamese/Chinese spin added on it. We also order an additional bowl of moksi sauce to pour onto our rice plate which added an additional level of flavor. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection and the staff was especially welcoming to everyone. The saoto soup was also great and hearty for days when your throat is yearning for something healthier. Go here ASAP!!!

Food is always of top quality. Especially for these prices. We come here regularly. Only the service could sometimes be a bit friendlier. After all, the customer remains king.

The food was terrible, dry and tasteless. The chicken was dry and had more bones than meat. The noodles were not seasoned at all and sandy. The staff also leaves a lot to be desired. We almost had to chase the waitresses and wait before taking our order. And the icing on the cake when paying when we just wanted to go very far from this restaurant the waitress asks us for a tip very sharply after a first no she tells us that we have to enter the amount on the machine then after a second no we gave up to get away from this nightmare as quickly as possible.

Abundant and well-priced food in the city center

One of my favorite places to eat in Amsterdam. Ever since I was younger I have loved coming here for a tasty plate of Surinamese food and/or takeaway. Simply delicious!

We came to the help desc and asked if we could just sit and drink for a while(it was 4 pm) and she agreed but when it came time to order we were pressured to order some food and we were told to get out if we didn't eat. So we asked if we could just stay 2 more minutes to wait on a friend who had gone out to take a call but the lady took our menus et almost our luggage and told us to go. I assume this is not always the case in the restaurant but this was really not necessary. Bad.

Staff are incredibly friendly and hospitable. You don't have to wait too long for a seat in the restaurant. The chicken curry sandwich had a good taste, but I thought it was a pity that it was a tough sandwich. The black pudding has been kept warm for a very long time. You could really taste that. I also had a lot of trouble with several flies. After fifteen minutes my stomach was gurgling and I had severe diarrhea. Maybe this is personal, but for me this is not necessary again. The toilet doors in the men's toilet were sprayed with graffiti. Well kick. Overall: I wouldn't eat there again.

The service in the restaurant is simply arrogant and antisocial. When it comes to the take-away part, the reverse is nice and normal. Quantity, quality, service and price are excellent. Good job, keep it up👍.

Ok food and fair prices, but if I could give zero stars for the service, I definitely would. The staff is extremely unprepared to deal with customers. We were still eating at the restaurant, and they simply wanted to kick us out of the table. In the end, they even demanded a tip for their (terrible) service.

I know Kam Yin is a simple concept... Pay for food and leave... But today the waitress was in an extra hurry, so she made a mistake twice. Very unpleasant too... That's the atmosphere and decor...but then again, such a waitress... We took: A baka bana with peanut sauce A saoto soup Large shrimps with salt and pepper, with bare fried rice. And a nasi with "roasted" chicken... Where do I start.... The large shrimps are quite a pricey dish for an eatery like Kam Yin and so I expected a lot from them.. But as they say, expectation breeds disappointment... The shrimp did not taste fresh... Hard and chewy... on the other hand, the gigantic pile of vegetables that you get without asking for it tasted fresh... But if I wanted vegetables...then I would have ordered a vegetable dish... The bare nasi...is really bare... Rice with some spices...nothing more... The roasted chicken...is simply deep fried. The baka bana is served lukewarm and with that peanut sauce... No, you should really be ashamed of that as a Surinamese-Chinese restaurant. That looked like just peanut sauce from a container at the supermarket and then flavored with maggi... Too bad... It remains a nice place in the middle of the city... And it's still affordable... But I don't have to go there again for another 20 years.

Pretty nice Surinamese/Chinese restaurant in the heart of Amsterdam. Hence the crowd, and it took us sometimes to be seated at the table. Food was really tasty, the fried rice with roasted ducks was highly recommended. Ask for their household sambal to pair with almost anything

The dishes were super good, despite some negative comments! On the other hand, the customer experience is really mediocre, the reception non-existent. In addition, we are encouraged to leave a tip, which we did not do! Due to this poor customer service! Small funny point for the waitress who pulled her face when we refused to give her a tip and who didn't even say goodbye to us 🤣 when she learns to be friendly maybe she will get a tip!

I have been coming to this Kam Yin location for years and with great pleasure. There is also a location in Amsterdam South East, but I don't think it is very good. But this one in the center of Amsterdam is always a success. The staff is friendly and there is plenty of seating since the last renovation a few years ago. The food is fresh and tastes good. We thoroughly enjoyed it and the price is also very affordable. Thank you and see you next time.

Worst experience of my life. The dishes were disgusting and inedible: dry rice and noodles without an ounce of sauce, no vegetables in the noodles apart from pieces of cooked salad (?), pieces of cucumbers cut up probably two days ago to decorate the plates. The chicken was so fatty I felt like I was traveling to the USA. The service was equally laborious. The waitress kept walking while we talked to her as if she was in the middle of juice even though she had 4 tables. She no longer spoke to us when we kindly refused to give her a tip. This is the first time I've left food on my plate at a restaurant, I come out feeling like vomiting. Run away.

Went for dinner today and was very disappointed by the service. The food was okay. Ordered some starters and some main courses. First got the main courses and after asking 4 times we still got the starters. And when paying, the lady with the card machine had the nerve to ask if she could get some tip. Normally I don't mind tipping, but if the service is so bad and you ask for a tip, you're really not going to get it.

We (couple, 44 years old) were in Amsterdam over the weekend and wanted to go out for a quick meal in the evening. We weren't sure whether we would get something spontaneously that evening - without a reservation. The store spoke to us and we just went in, got the space without any problems, the food came quickly, we were super satisfied.

Service slow and unfriendly, food bad, prices high.

The food was very bad. The meat was completely dry, the sauce was tasteless and watery, and didn't resemble anything like sauce. The noodles were floating in a puddle of water in the plastic container and also had no taste.

Recently had dinner there with 2 other people. It was quite busy there, so we were given a long table. When a group of about 7 people arrived, an ATM machine was immediately shoved under our noses to pay. We had barely finished eating and drinking. Later, an employee picked up my can of beer and started shaking it back and forth to see if it was empty yet! This is incredibly rude!

I am pleasantly surprised! Haven't been in years and the kitchen has certainly improved. I had a delicious meal there and even took extra home with me. I will definitely come and eat and take away again very soon.

Took food on the way home without success. We ordered roti chicken fillet but when we got home it was chicken with skin and bone. Chicken and gravy were tasteless. Hot chicken sandwich with pickles and pepper was not spicy. The fried banana with satay sauce came without satay sauce. Of course I paid for what I ordered but did not receive it. The fact that things went wrong for us a few times should have been a warning to leave.

Whether taking away eating in or getting delivered, the food is always great and consistently tasty every time. I find myself every now and then picking something from the menu I wouldn't normally order and Kami Yin never disappoints.

Ratio price, quality, location - 5 stars. In the given location, large portions for a reasonable price. Don't expect an oriental atmosphere, but a dining room. I'm not an expert on oriental food, but I liked it. The server didn't want to split the bill.

Very bad service! I ordered food there and it was automatically given as take-away, but I wanted to eat the soup there and take the rest with me, so I thought I wouldn't be difficult and just eat the soup out of the container. I sat at a table there and it was very quiet, but I was simply sent away because I was not allowed to eat from the bowl?? But they hadn't even put it in a bowl. Very bad service from the women there, came there often and often brought colleagues, but never again. What poor service people can do, yuck! And the food is no longer as tasty as it used to be!!

As an Asian this is pretty decent food travelling around Europe. No frills asian. Don't expect service. Just a good cheap meal and large portions. Recommend trying to surinaam noodles (similar to hokkien) and their roast/mixed pork with rice.

Delicious food for little money

After a full day Amsterdam with our travelling friend we wanted her ton taste Surinamese Chinese food. The food came pretty fast. The chicken was somewhat dry. The pork was moist and tasty. The food has a lot os MSG (Ajinamoto). The bakabana tasted old and the Pindasaus (peanut saus) was not authentic Surinamese. When we wanted to pay the lady asked if we wanted to tip. We answered “no”. Her attitude changed and she was very rude. We wanted to split the bill and she made so many tjoeries (mouth gestures when one is agitated) The atmosphere is not there. Find another Surinamese Chinese Restaurant in Amsterdam.

I recently went there for dinner, wanted to order more for home, but the waitress said that we had to stand in line at the cash register. While at that moment we were eating there at the table. Stuffed rolls were very poorly made and really not tasty. Thought it was really bad service. Never experienced anything like this

The food at Kam Yin was delicious. You can go here for delicious Surinamese dishes. The Surinamese brown nasi with moksi meti was delicious. The service was good, you don't have to wait long for the food. What topped it off for me was the jar of sliced ​​Surinamese pepper that you get with it (not obvious). Worth repeating!

The food is one of the better cheap eats in Amsterdam for price quality, the atmosphere and service, on the other hand, is like being in a Michelin star restaurant but with the entourage of the maccie.

Heated dish tasteless bad experience

Food has gone downhill. Not tasty anymore. On my plate of moksi lay a meager pile of meat. Gravy had no taste. Vegetables are hard to find. As well as the noodles with shrimps. Too bad. Loved coming there. This was a few months ago. I recently thought I would give it another try with 4 children. Once there, we were guided to a seat, but a friendly employee arranged for us to sit elsewhere where there was more space. When we arrive at that spacious seating area, a rude employee is waiting for us to start ranting in public. After which I initially spoke to her normally and told her that her colleague was sending us there. After which this pig of a woman snarled that that colleague was not the boss and spoke to us very rudely in front of other guests. Mind you, the children we had with us didn't make a sound during this employee's tirade! (Children's age 13,9,3 and 1 1/2) Mr. Kamyin, hire normal Dutch-speaking people with norms and values. We didn't come back because of the food. More for convenience! After this rant we decided never to go back. We went to eat elsewhere with 4 hungry kids! NEVER AGAIN KAMYIN!!!!

We ate delicious dish no. 49 (Surinamese noodles with pork). A plate full for an affordable price. When we arrive in Adam, we eat at Kam Yin. It can be busy, but everything goes super fast there and you never have to wait long for a table. Highly recommended
