We were dazzled by the large crowd and the appealing appearance of the restaurant in the heart of Amsterdam, which turned out to be a complete mistake. The initial impression was soured as soon as we sat down, since our glasses weren't clean and we had to drink directly from the can. The culinary experience was simply abysmal for both of us. The food was so bland and tasteless, the likes of which we've never experienced in any Far Eastern restaurant before – a truly dismal low point, made even worse by the bottle of Maggi seasoning provided on the table. Furthermore, we searched almost in vain for any vegetables in our dishes. Anyone looking for a good meal in Amsterdam should steer clear of this place, as there are far better alternatives.

This is a Chinese-Surinamese restaurant with a good reputation, and has had one for many years. They have a very extensive selection of menus (bound in a thick folder) and a very efficient team that serves you quickly for drinks and meals. We chose a menu with chicken, rice, potatoes, green beans, and a substantial pancake to soak up the very spicy sauce. Despite the crowds, it was still possible to have a conversation in a corner of the room. Satisfied, we headed home.

I ordered food at 10 to seven and had it delivered at 5 to nine. Via Thuisbezorgd. Lukewarm, not fresh. In short, very bad. Spring rolls cold. Nasi moksi meti dark brown and dried out. Meat tough. Never again. Used to be a regular customer.

The worst restaurant in Amsterdam! The food was sickening—it was cold, the pork was raw, and the portions seemed like leftovers. And the place was filthy! Disgusting! Don't go; there are definitely better places to eat.

Started off bad : my husband informed the staff that there was no soap in the men’s room (three times) on his last attempt the staff ( older lady with a bob-cut) said “later”. I went into the ladies bathroom and gave him soap. Upon leaving my husband asked for a cup of ice for his canteen…. Same lady said “you ordered food service not drink service”. Little details overshadowed the dining experience. Good was good but 🤷🏽‍♀️

Service so bad. We waited for very long and then one woman said we can find our table and then minutes later one woman came said we stand and wait. We waited again and then we tried to approach them to ghve us a seat no one listened. We end up leaving the place. Ruined our trip. Dissapointing

What can I say . Food is of very poor quality. The noodle we so dry and bland taste. The meet to was so dry . I do not recommend eating here .

我只同意給5%小費，現場說的很清楚，但實際付款被刷了14%，這是不當收費！ I visited this restaurant yesterday. The food was fine, but I have a concern about the payment process. My receipt total was €15.90. During payment, the staff asked how much tip I wanted to leave. She first mentioned €5, and I immediately clarified that I wanted to leave 5%, not €5. She repeated 5%, and I completed the payment using Apple Pay. However, my final card charge was €18.19. I am not questioning whether to leave a tip—I voluntarily agreed to a 5% tip. My concern is that the final amount charged does not clearly match what I authorized. I tried to contact the restaurant for an explanation, but the email address I found was undeliverable. I hope the restaurant can explain how the final amount was calculated. Payment amounts, including any tip, should be transparent and should always reflect the amount the customer has agreed to authorize.

The menu on their website shows lower prices than the menu in the restaurant. The food was alright but nothing fantastic. The fried rice lacked flavour. I enjoyed the roasted meats that came in the Surinamese set menu. What put me off this restaurant completely is the lack of transparency when it comes to payment. We were charged a certain amount of money (printed on the receipt) and the server asked whether we wanted to give a tip, which we agreed to. Thankfully, my card declined which is when I saw a notification from my banking app for the amount she attempted to debit. An extra charge was added to my bill before she added the tip, which she claimed was charged by the bank and not her. I then asked her to remove the tip, because I was being charged more for the meal than was stated on the receipt. She became abrupt in her communication to me after this. Staff should make it clear that people paying by card will be charged extra by the bank, if that is indeed the case.

Are the previous reviews from real people? Or are the customers so stoned they have no sense of taste? I ordered two dishes: spring rolls, €3.50 for two, which were frozen and of lower quality than the entry-level option. Then chicken ramen—what can I say? It wasn't ramen, maybe a broth with a bouillon cube, rice vermicelli, and a piece of chicken that I couldn't even describe, to the point where I wondered if it was actually chicken. My only advice: run away. Unfortunately, given Amsterdam's popularity with tourists, the restaurant will always be crowded due to its location. A real shame.

The service is a 1, not even a 1. They are so rude there; they take your order, and when it’s not going fast enough according to them, they walk away angrily and mumble something in their own language. When paying, they BRUTALLY ask for a tip. You give a tip and are still not satisfied. Ungrateful.

Dear Sir/Madam, I found the restaurant itself very beautiful and atmospheric. Unfortunately, I was less satisfied with the service. In my opinion, the woman with dark orange hair was very unfriendly, impatient, and sometimes quite rude. Her manner of communicating did not come across as very professional, and this made me feel uncomfortable as a customer. I find this regrettable, because the restaurant itself has a beautiful appearance and a pleasant atmosphere. The ambiance is lovely (with swallow-patterned wallpaper, wicker lamps, and inviting green armchairs), but it's somewhat lost in the restaurant's size. The service was friendly, multilingual, and incredibly fast. The place was packed and conveniently located; you can't miss it on the way into the city. Since locals also eat here, we thought we couldn't go wrong. Apparently, everyone else knew exactly what they were ordering and had delicious-looking, enormous portions, while our pasta dishes were dry, with very little steamed vegetables mixed in, and mine even contained pieces of a strange-tasting sausage. We left almost everything and felt it was overpriced for the quality. Disappointed. It seems you have to know what you're ordering here, otherwise you'll be in for a nasty surprise.

The food is really delicious, the portions are large, and the prices are very reasonable, definitely a big plus However, the service could be better: the staff are not very friendly, and they also insist on tips, which makes the experience a bit uncomfortable.

The service is really rude, and is really not worth it to pay to be shouted at or dismissed. The waitress selected the optional surcharge for me on the pad very quickly and then looked away when I tried talking to her; this is not ok, and given the treatment and quality of food I would have refused it. There is many places in the same neighborhood with much better results.

The restaurant is awful. First of all, when I just sit down for about one minute, then the staff start hurrying me to place an order twice. I told her that I need some time to look at the menu. After that, I requested tap water when she asked me if I need any drink. And she replied that they don’t serve tap water, but what made me unsatisfied was that every table has a bottle of water served. Throughout the meal, the staff was so impolite and kept hurrying me up. The food is not good either, the pork belly meats and chicken were too hard, tough and salty. Please don’t go to the restaurant if you just want a NORMAL meal. At the end, she didn’t even ask me whether I want to tip, just added on top of the price of the meal without even mentioning. As I use contactless credit card, I paid without noticing just found out because many reviews mentioned the tip thing. It was horrible. Please refrain coming.

I love coming to Kam Yon every time I am in Amsterdam. They have Surinam Chinese food that you can’t get outside of the Netherlands (except for Surinam of course). They have excellent Surinam Noodle dishes, but I always choose the Roti with chicken (on the bone), it’s very tasty! The staff is always super friendly, and the location is perfect: you can walk from the Central Station in 5-10 minutes. The atmosphere is very authentic. Go to Kam Yin and you will not be disappointed!

Yesterday I got vegetarian roti (consisted only of potato and a handful of green beans with a roti flatbread, though it was a large container). I went inside and was served politely and quickly. Then things took a bit long. After a while, the man behind the counter asked the cook where the roti was. He suddenly started laughing because the cook was acting angry. Okay, whatever. After 1 minute, I saw that cook open his hatch; he stood there dead still, staring at me. Very strange. But it was a warning: never eat food from an angry cook. I had severe diarrhea a few hours later. A very remarkable experience. Perhaps the man has something against vegetarian food; in any case, I won't be going back. Too bad, the bara was tasty though.

We ordered chicken roti. It looked more like roti soup (half of it consisted of water). Because of this, it was difficult to eat with the roti flatbread. Furthermore, the roti was prepared with green beans instead of yardlong beans. The potatoes were also still very hard. When paying the bill, they ask for a tip themselves, and if you decline, the service disappears completely. We ate there twice, both with the same experience.

We had noodles and rice, definitely avoid them! I can't say if other dishes are good, but the ones we ate were unbelievable! The food was unseasoned, dry, and definitely preheated! I don't understand how a place in the center can be open; the food was truly horrible. There was a bit of a misunderstanding with the staff.

A word of caution for vegetarians: some dishes are labeled as containing shrimp... And the vegetarian nasi, which is supposed to be fried rice, is actually plain white rice... we pointed this out to the server, but nothing changed. I have been here several times and the food is always good, but unfortunately the service is truly scandalous.. I had only asked if we could sit by the window because it was quieter there, and a woman working there got angry and slammed our cutlery and placemats on the table.. In hindsight, we should have left right away, but I always enjoy eating here and it was also my birthday that day, so I just really wanted something to eat. I asked why she was acting like that? And she just looked at me and walked away? It was all very strange..

The food was fine, but the service was disappointing. It was lunchtime during the week and there were plenty of free tables. I was not allowed to sit at a table closer to the window because they were supposedly for four people and I was alone. I would have understood if the restaurant had been busy, but it clearly wasn’t. Shortly afterwards, several men dining alone were seated at tables for four without any issue. The waitress was cold and unfriendly toward me the entire time until I asked for the bill. Overall, I did not feel welcome at all and would recommend they find a new waitress who isn’t rude.

Delivery via Thuisbezorgd went wrong. Kam Yin just refers you to someone else, doesn't feel responsible, and leaves you stranded without food. No "how unfortunate, we'll sort it out, sir." Never again.

I’ve been eating here for years, but recently you’re practically forced to pay a tip. After settling the bill, a card reader is shoved under your nose again with the emphatic question of how much you want to pay. The rude part is that after paying, you have to withdraw the tip amount separately and enter the amount yourself, so you are tempted to give a higher amount. A bit of a shame considering the shitty service you always get there. The waitress walks away before you’ve finished ordering, and then you wait at least 45 minutes for your food and drinks. The portions are also getting smaller and smaller. I’m never coming back here.

It a shame it's in a good location had ordered number 51 noodles with chicken on top and two pieces of slice onion and a small slice of cucumber. The food wasn't consistently hot which was warmed up in a microwave and the proof of that was the cucumber was shrivelled up. Big disappointment for the price they charge and reheated food such a shame considering it's in a prime location

As a Surinamer, I can start by saying that the baka bana’s weren't bakabana’s at all. They were soggy with oil and made from hard banana; they simply tasted like shoe soles. And the peanut sauce was sickening 🤮. Then the main courses: white nasi, brown nasi, and tjauw min, all with moksi metie. INEDIBLE!! You couldn't even get a few bites of rice down your throat without a drink, and the meat was tough and had a weird taste. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!! Because it really was inedible. I understand now why this place was closed by the municipality.

Food was great but when it comes to the payment ⚠️⚠️ first of all out of all the restaurant they are the only one directly asking for a tip, I declined at the restaurant but when I checked afterwards extra money was charged! (With no mention of service charge, administration fee etc) This is not right, the lack of honesty will bring this business down, please contact me to make things right if it's just a mistake.

Good food I say go if you're in the neighborhood Sandwich or meal Sa Amsterdam

The place is very basic and poorly maintained. My dish arrived very cold, with lukewarm, almost cold meat and very dry rice with very little seasoning. Before sitting down, we witnessed a customer being practically forced to leave by making him pay and handing him the drink he hadn't yet finished.

The Chinese dishes are delicious. Well-seasoned. However, the non-Chinese dishes are a bit less impressive, but still edible. It can get quite busy in the evening. As a result, you have to wait a bit longer for a table, even though you had a reservation. This does not detract from the fact that the ladies remain friendly. They keep smiling. If you want to eat good Chinese food, this place is highly recommended. The prices are really reasonable.

Because the restaurant was packed the night before, we went in with high hopes the next day. It was by far the worst Asian food we've ever had. The chicken skewers were practically invisible under the peanut sauce (?). All the main courses seemed to have been cooked in the same broth and then dressed with the corresponding sauce – they had hardly any flavor. The rice was unsalted. Simply awful. The only positive thing: it was quick 🙈

Very Bad! Ordered a combination dish of Chicken Curry, Babi Pangang, and Tjauwmin. Two small bowls with very little meat in excessive sauce. The Tjauwmin was lukewarm and tasteless. Sent it back, received it back on the table after warming it up in the microwave... paid 17.70 for this, and another 3.70 was added on top for the lukewarm Tjauwmin... Afterwards, we were asked for a tip; what audacity and very rude. A customer gives a tip of their own accord and you shouldn't have to ask for it. Never experienced anything like this before. Avoid this restaurant!

Food was okay. The service is very unfriendly and impolite. No greeting from the waitress. You have to sit where you are seated and are not allowed to change your seat otherwise you will reprimanded for asking. Would rather avoid this restaurant if you are have better options nearby.
