A super lovely restaurant with authentic Indian food. The flavours are rich, the atmosphere is warm, and the staff are friendly. Definitely recommended!

Just picked up chicken biryani, momos, samosas, and garlic cheese naan for the first time. We're always a bit picky about Indian food, but this was absolutely fantastic!! My sister and I really, really enjoyed it! 😍 The service was also fantastic, the people were so friendly and generous! 100% definitely going back!

I ordered food yesterday, and it arrived reasonably on time. The shrimp curry tasted incredibly sour. The Yeti noodles were like bami soup. I'd eaten this before at Sherpa Restaurant, and it was incredibly good, just the way it's meant to be. I barely ate anything and threw it away. I'd eaten at Suray's restaurant before, but the last two times the food was sour. After a long time, I tried again, but unfortunately, the food was terrible. So, never again. A waste of money.

I’m not always keen on Indian food, but my partner really wanted to try it, so we went to Surya in Amsterdam — and our experience was fantastic! We started with some delicious starters, and then for our mains, we were given different dishes to try, which made the experience even more fun as we got to taste a variety of flavors. To my surprise, I also had the best Pornstar Martini I’ve had in a long time! The service was truly top-tier, they even recommended some dishes for us to try, which we really appreciated. I would recommend!

A very intimate venue with soft lighting and dark walls, comfortable sofas, and background music to create a relaxing atmosphere. Attentive and professional service is available to explain the characteristics of the dishes. The menu offers a wide range of traditional Indian and Nepalese dishes, prepared with quality ingredients and carefully selected.

The restaurant isn't specifically vegan, but it still has a wide vegan selection on the menu. The service is friendly and professional. The food was good, although I personally didn't think the typical Dutch-looking salad was a good fit. We come mainly for the experience, the ambiance, the atmosphere, and the quality of the food. The portions are more than enough for us. My wife has an allergy, and they were very accommodating. Very nice 👍 What bothered me a bit were the takeaway delivery drivers who constantly walked through the restaurant, making it a bit cluttered. Suddenly, someone in black with a helmet walked by who hadn't been seated at a table before. I think that could be changed; perhaps a takeaway counter at the entrance? Regarding the atmosphere and experience, it would be a plus if the decor reflected the country of origin more, and perhaps some company attire to match? Personally, I like being included in that. The ice cream was delicious, according to my wife, even delicious. I'd prefer the mango pieces to be fresh next to the ice cream, not mixed in. A side of plant-based whipped cream would make it perfect. Those were my tips, which the restaurant specifically requested in an email. Excellent! :) Definitely recommended as an alternative to fine dining.

It was not a pleasant experience.

I recently had the absolute privilege of being able to go to this amazing restaurant. As soon as I stepped foot into the place i was welcomed by exotic smells, tasty food and an incredibly funny and outgoing italian waiter. I think that his name was Lorenzo. The overall environment was amazing and it really felt like I was in Nepal. I had the butter chicken which was spectacular and the momos as a starter which was also very tasty. I would definitely recommend going here!

Food is next-level sublime. The Lamb Madras? Spicy enough to make my taste buds throw a party (and maybe call for backup). When I ordered, the guy actually asked, with a straight face, if I knew I’d picked something spicy. Me: ‘Uh, yeah, I’m an adult (mostly).’ Normally, they don’t believe me, but this time? Chef’s kiss. Perfect heat, like ‘I-will-cry-but-I’ll-order-it-again’ good. Bonus: They’re open till *23:00*, so when my midnight cravings hit, I can pretend I’m on a SPICY vacation instead of in my pajamas. 10/10, would risk heartburn again. #WorthIt

The food is not tasty, and very expensive. They greet guests in a false, pretentious way. The wait for dinner is also very long, I would give it a 2 if not for the fake smile

This restaurant was far from customer friendly. I am normally a regular customer here but the way we were treated in the restaurant today was absurd. We contacted the restaurant by telephone to make a reservation, clearly stating that we were breaking our fast. We then get our food an hour and a half later and my friends' food was not made spicy even though this was indicated. Ultimately, we waited an hour and a half for the food, only to be met by a rude server (who had a long history of Hindustani descent and spoke the Dutch language) who indicated that it had been compensated with a privilege that had also been served incorrectly. We thought this was too ridiculous for words. You have lost a regular customer.

Have eaten here before and it never disappoints. Some days it can be busy and it takes a little longer to get your food. But lately I've had some really nice experiences. Butter chicken is a must try! We spent about 30-40pp including starters

Reservation made on the 14th at 8:00 PM. Ended up waiting 20 minutes for a spot. We were placed on a table of 4 people, but there were 2 of us, so the question we were asked was whether we could move if the people who were late could get their seat where we were. Service was friendly but terrible in terms of service. After ordering our food and drinks we only received 1 drink? After waiting 10 minutes we got our second drink but again no glass. Ultimately we were only able to eat at 9:00 PM after everything was complete. Then I ordered another drink, which never came, so I told them that I no longer needed it. The leftover food that was requested to take away was simply taken away with the dirty crockery and ultimately had to speak to 3 employees that we had a to go order. When it was time to pay, they charged 14x 7up after paying. So I finally got my money back, but that took another 10 minutes before we could leave with a long line of people behind us who wanted to sit. In short, it might be fine during the week and not on public holidays. But for a small restaurant on a "special" day, not recommended for people who want to celebrate something here with their family/loved ones/friends.

Food is fine, it tries to be more fancy than it has to be. Seatings are comfy though. Would I come back? Yes, but not something I get completely wild about

Despite reservations, we had to wait in front of the door for a table. Food looks nice in the photo, but is very disappointing. Don't fall for the TikTok videos! The meat can hardly be called tandoori, it stinks and the chicken has a slippery texture. Everything is pre-cooked and cold. The curries are often bland or extremely over-seasoned, which means they are bland in taste or over-cooked and can no longer be eaten. Gurkha Lamb is over-seasoned and inedible. Butter Chicken should not bear the name. Flat, bland, lacks spice and flavor. Portions are very small. Saag paneer is baby food spinach with cheese that is gummy cold. Garlic name is old dry cold and does not taste or smell like garlic or butter. The salad is hillarious; bone-dry iceberg lettuce in a bowl; nothing more or less, no decoration or sauce. The food comes so quickly that it is clear that it is not fresh and you can taste it. Price; Too expensive for the quality and food you get. Home delivery and Uber delivery people walk between the tables with large backpacks; no face and no atmosphere. Operation; Good and friendly. In short; there are 100 better places to eat Indian food, skip the hype!

Ate at Surya Amsterdam last Friday. Service was good. Regarding dinner orders. Somazas were not fresh and very hard (as if they had been taken from the refrigerator). The ordered naan was also not spicy, tasty and the mixed vegetable broccoli mushroom (kebab) was also undercooked and poorly prepared. As media we were able to visit renowned Indian restaurants, this was also the last time for Surya.

Such a lovely restaurant! Delicious food. Very reasonably priced, I might add. They let us take some home in a cute Surya bag. A fun detail about the restaurant is that you have to turn the light on your table upside down for the staff to come over to your table and take your order. (The lights change color every time you do this.) It's so adorable watching toddlers in the restaurant play around with this. The little incense corner is also lovely.

I recently visited this restaurant with some friends who were already dining there. Unfortunately, I was asked to leave because I brought my small dog along. While I understand that every establishment has its own rules, it would have been helpful if the restaurant’s pet policy was communicated more clearly at the entrance or their website. The atmosphere seemed lovely but for those who may want to bring pets, it’s good to know in advance that they’re not allowed. I appreciate the staff’s professionalism, but I hope the restaurant considers making their pet policy more accessible to avoid any confusions.

Again lovely spicy food, I think I've been here four times but it wasn't the last! *Update* here I was again, I enjoyed the Chicken Momo's and the lightly spicy Balti Chicken.

The food here is absolutely delicious. Every dish we tried was bursting with the flavors and cooked to perfection.

The food? OUTSTANDING. I’m genuinely upset I live too far (USA) to come back here every. single. week. Veggie options are also truly delicious, not an after thought. The decor? BEAUTIFUL. So calming, so authentic, so pretty. The service? WONDERFUL. Everyone is so sweet and lovely! DO. NOT. MISS!! :)

Great Indian restaurant that I have been to before. Atmosphere is nice, service comes when you turn your light, dishes are tasty but the volume-price ratio is not right. They have raised the prices a lot.

Very nice restaurant with very good dishes from India and surrounding areas. All very tasty. The papadum is excellent. Friendly service and very attentive. Highly recommended for those who love Indian cuisine.

Rating for food - 2* Rating for ambiance - 5* Money worth for the experience - way too expensive for its taste and the service was not great; they didn't pay attention to us after the first order. We were 5people and did not order any alcohol still ended up paying 100+ Euros.

Food is average Prices are average I didn't like the atmosphere as the restaurant is very dark from inside, you don't know exactly what you are eating. Also the toilets are very close to the dining tables and you can smell bad orders.

My friend and I stopped in for a quick drink on our way to dinner. We were enticed by the delicious offerings posted on the board in front of the restaurant. We were able to be seated quickly at the bar and were promptly served. The gin based cocktails quenched our thirst and offered a spirited take on a straightforward gin and tonic. While we were there, we noticed the diners having a great time in the dining room and the aromas wafting to the bar were quite enticing. Definitely give Surya a try!

Great Indian restaurant in Amsterdam. I would say it's one of the best. Try their lemon chicken which is the best I've ever eaten. I was also pleasantly surprised that their espresso is so delicious. I think they got the right beans. It's a small restaurant so sometimes hard to get a place but the food is definitely delicious.

I’m happy and sad at the same time having visited Surya! Happy because of humble and excellent service, calm ambiance, and delicious food! Sad because why didn’t I visit Surya before! Kudos to the team especially Alick and the amazing chef! The taste of food makes you nostalgic of the food in India! Will be a regular visitor! :)

Not as good as it used to be. We regularly get food from Surya. Normally the butter chicken and the korma are really from another planet. But unfortunately the last 3 times it has been disappointing. The butter chicken tastes sour. Korma lacks flavor and is more like mashed potatoes. And the naan looked like a cracker. Very unfortunate as we have always had a fantastic meal there in the past. We won't eat there anymore because it is a waste of our money and time. Once again a shame, I hope they will one day reach their old level again.

What happened? The food was really amazing until about six months ago. We thought it was pricey at the time, but we ordered it often and every time we were always amazed at how good it was. But the last two times were just bad. The paratha is bone dry and the vegetarian korma looks more like a baby mash. We had high hopes that we were unlucky last time, but unfortunately.

I had promised the guy would surely write an review for him & the girl at the bar, couldn't resist too write this review. The guy who took our Order & served us food was fantastic.... Their service personals Charmex (girl at the bar) & Alixks service personal were just fantastic....( hope took their name correctly) they are excellent.....Food was mouth watering...with beautiful interior....

Extraordinary ! Everything is perfect

Super cozy and good Indian & Nepalese restaurant in the Pijp. We went on Saturday evening quite late 9pm and were warmly welcomed and had one of the better restaurant experiences in a long time. The acoustics in the restaurant have been well thought out with panels on the ceiling, which makes it cozy but you can still talk well. Cocktails were great and so were the dishes. Don't forget to order the peshwari naan, delicious with coconut.

The tastiest butter chicken in Amsterdam

We have been coming here for years, since Surya existed, and they have only gotten better. The owner and staff are very friendly as always. In my opinion you can enjoy the best currys here and attention is always paid to dietary requirements. Our favorites: paneer makhni/butter chicken, grilled paneer masala, madras. Yesterday we ordered some cocktails, and they were so delicious! The special gin and tonics are also highly recommended! The shaker knows what she's doing! Thanks!

As a Brit visiting I was craving Indian food and found the highest quality, best atmosphere and friendliest staff in Suriya. The optimised service made our night with friends. Definitely will visit again when we come back

I've been coming here for years. Prices have risen enormously, which is understandable. Starters from 8 to 10 main from 17 to 19 But suddenly paying €6 for rice while this is always included. This is simply covid damage doubled over earning back customers. An average increase of 25 percent. No, this is going too far. Quality of the food also a lot less We won't be coming back here again

I recently visited Surya, an Indian restaurant on Ceintuurbaan Amsterdam. Beste Indisch restaurant van Amsterdam! Heerlijk gegeten in fijne ambiance.

Couple of days ago we were passing by & got into this Indian Restaurant Surya Amsterdam, it seems they have more Restaurants at other locations, upon arrival we were been warmly greeted by a Gentleman & without Reservation he offered us the Table of our choice, which usally does not happen at many Restaurants in Amsterdam 😃.... We had the best meal of the evening, Service was par at their excellence, within minutes the drinks were on our table, (we usually dont get served so quick in the bars within Amsterdam) ausum food & to the man for cooking butter chicken with his own hands from the bottom your heart my Girl Friend loved it...kisses......😘

The plates were very delicious although they were small and we waited for them at least 1+ hour. The room was a bit cold, too.

Might be the best Indian place I've dined at in Amsterdam so far! The staff were very welcoming and lovely, the food was high quality and genuine, and the service was good and food came at a decent speed. Their house wine is fairly decent too!
