An all-around perfect evening. The 7-course menu left nothing to be desired, and the service was impeccable! It was very personal and contributed greatly to this perfect experience. The ambiance was very beautiful, cozy, and well-maintained. We would be happy to come back.

Dit restaurant zit al enige tijd in Oegstgeest en eindelijk hebben we er een bezoek gebracht. We zijn zeer aangenaam verrast. Je kunt kiezen uit een 5 of 7 gangenmenu waarbij de kaasplank een extra mogelijkheid is. De koks toveren met bijzondere smaakcombinaties (oesterijs bij de langoustine), prachtig opgemaakte borden, een goede wijnkaart (probeer de Riesling bubbel als aperitief. Zálig.) en kundig personeel. Dit restaurant verdient een plekje in het linkerrijtje van de Zuidhollandse eredivisie. Om daar te komen en te blijven toch nog een paar tips voor dit segment: Dek de tafel met linnen, bied brood aan van het huis en (zelfgemaakte, want Suzy!) frisndise bij de koffie. We komen zeker terug! Was een heerlijke avond genieten!

The food was fantastic. Seven courses for my birthday. The fish and vegetarian options were a huge success. My friend, who eats meat and gluten-free, was also satisfied. The wines were well-matched. The service was subpar. Impersonal, not always professional. And pouring wine bottles into other bottles in front of the guests is a bit unwise.

Wir waren vor 2 Jahren schon einmal hier und hatten einen unvergesslichen Abend auf einem sehr hohen kulinarischen Niveau! Auch dieses Mal wurden wir nicht enttäuscht und haben das hervorragende Dinner und den tollen professionellen und sehr motivierten Service genossen. Wir können dieses lokale sehr empfehlen und kommen sicherlich gerne wieder.

Went for dinner about three weeks ago, but it stuck. The food was delicious, many flavor combinations and nice original creations - the wines were also really nice and original. Acoustics are poor, but we could hear each other well. The service during the evening was really good, there was someone at the table very often. Water was replenished really well, we also got bread replenished. It was all certainly sufficient. Really no negatives for that. About the following: we had explained in advance that we did not actually want 7 whole glasses of matching wines, but would prefer slightly less. That was no problem, an all-in package including wine was also possible with half glasses. Everyone happy. Until we got the bill. Yes, €50 was deducted from the all-in price, but then all half wine glasses from the wine package were taken LOOSE. Which resulted in the same price as a complete arrangement with full glasses. (We each had 1 aperitif for €21 in total and ended up paying €340.50 - an all-in package without an aperitif is €160 pp) We asked a question about this and it took a while before they came back. The waiter (not the owner, who provided our wine all evening) said that he understood that we made a comment, but that he had checked it and that it was actually correct, because the package was already too competitively priced. In fact, they had actually made a mistake and it should have even been 10 cents more(!), but of course they were not going to pass that on now. I indicated that I thought it was strange that we paid the same as the neighbors, who got more for the same money, but I also didn't want any hassle on the evening, which had been really fun and tasteful, so we settled. 3 weeks later, this experience is still in my head. I think mainly because of the reaction. It's not about the money for me, but if the response had been: "It's good that you reported it - we have to look at our prices clearly and offer you a €20 discount for the inconvenience", then I would have given that €20 as a tip. I also find it special that people are so encouraged to drink more alcohol. I was really excited about the wide choice of non-alcoholic aperitifs (I thought the Feral was a really nice start to the evening).

Underbart att vara tillbaka på denna superfina restaurang! Vi besökte Leiden för några år sedan och var helnöjda. Nu var det ännu bättre!!! Servicen är av världsklass och maten likaså. Underbart!

Absolutely amazing experience! The flavors were fresh, creative, and beautifully balanced. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared with high-quality ingredients, and the presentation was just as impressive. Last Saturday we experienced the great cuisine and hospitality of Suzie's and van Aken for the first time. A wonderful evening out, delicious dishes with a classic French with an Asian twist. Delicious matching wines with a good, accessible explanation by the hostess & sommelier. Even though the restaurant was completely full, the great attention from the team made you feel like you had the only table in the restaurant. The dishes managed to surprise almost every course (of the seven) in one way or another. If not because of the taste, then because of the layout of the plates. The personal culinary highlight of the evening was the entree of stewed onions. This seemingly simple vegetable was transformed into a particularly tasty dish by the kitchen team. In my opinion, an absolute must if you are going out for a night on a delicious culinary journey. We will definitely come back.

Last night we had a delicious 7-course dinner with excellent matching wines, well explained by Suzie. The ambiance is beautiful and peaceful. The dishes are served by two people at the same time. After a visit to the toilet, your napkin is neatly folded and the chair is pulled up. In short, an unforgettable evening in a wonderful restaurant with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Reading the experiences of others really puts you in the mood. We walked past it, because the restaurant is not easy to see from outside due to the hedge. You enter a large, cozy living room. Nice table near the kitchen. Nice view of the chefs at work. Everything runs smoothly, timing, service, dishes. Plenty of enthusiasm and it is clear that everyone is fully committed to making it as enjoyable as possible. We enjoy a more than excellent 5-course dinner. A lot of creativity in the preparation with exciting flavor combinations and many details. We greatly appreciate the time everyone takes to explain everything and answer our questions. Exciting wine choices also with lots of explanation. In short, enjoy yourself at a high level in a very pleasant, relaxed environment.

Echt super!!! Zoals fine dining hoort te zijn!! Service, eten, bijpassende wijnen, alles perfect!! We hadden een heerlijk kerstmenu met geweldige smaakcombinaties. Echt alles was een dikke 10! Samen met mijn partner gaan we geregeld eten bij restaurants met een eervolle Michelin vermelding of een Michelin ster en het zijn dit soort restaurants die dat zo leuk maken! Ik ga het gewoon nog een keer zeggen: een dikke 10!

Nous avons dégusté le menu en 5 plats à 75,00€ , après 2 mises en bouche moyennes les Plats étaient d’une excellente qualité gustative avec une superbe présentation , je joins les photos car je suis dans l’impossibilité de les décrire! Concernant les vins au verre rouge ou blanc , ils n’étaient pas à notre goût . Certains convives criaient et riaient très fort ce qui rendait l’attente entre les plats (3h30) très désagréable ! Malgré ces inconvénients nous nous sommes régalés , je recommande ce restaurant .

We entered through a pathway, that would need a little trimming. We're greeted very politely and had a choice where to sit. We unfortunately choose a little drafty. Started our 4,5 hour endeavor of fine dining. Our 7 all in (with a deliciously chosen wine) was presented expertly by our host. All tables were occupied. The cachophony of voices made it hard to talk and understand each other, hence a lower score. Anyway if you ask, would you come again, I would answer, " yes definitely ".

Om onze trouwdag te vieren hebben we voor dit restaurant gekozen. Ze bestaan al 7 jaar en we hadden goede verhalen gehoord. En inderdaad een plezierige en gastvrije sfeer. We namen een 5 gangen menu en lieten ons door de kok verrassen. We kregen prachtig opgemaakte hapjes. Schilderijtjes en bijzonder smaakvol. Het restaurant is niet groot en was ook volledig gevuld. Je kan zeggen levendig. We hadden een prima avond.

Wij hebben erg genoten van een 7 gangendiner met bijbehorende wijnen. Het was een gebalanceerd menu met verfijnde smaken. De bijbehorende wijnen waren zeer passend en van een prima niveau. De bediening, onder leiding van gastvrouw Suzie, was zeer attent en heel gastvrij. Absolute aanrader.

Special experience! Beautiful dishes, beautiful flavor combinations. Surprising experience with onion and red cheese: best vegetarian dish ever! Cauliflower mushroom, what an experience, beautiful work with crustaceans, pork belly and impressive foams. In short, a culinary experience. Very attentive and professional service. Wine lady very knowledgeable. Here you enjoy and learn at the same time. Beautiful wines. The only point for improvement: the laguiole knife with the beef dish was not sharp. One ceramic sharpening rod can provide a solution. The meat was very tender and the vegetables were beautiful!

Opted for the 7-course all-inn dinner at €160 per person. We were warmly welcomed by the friendly host. In my personal opinion, the restaurant has a bit of an IKEA look with lots of white and wooden chairs. What I really thought was a missed opportunity was that the welcome drink was not included in the All Inn dinner/wine package, if this was the case, this was not communicated to us. The dishes with the accompanying wines were delicious! Nice that extensive time was taken with each pairing. I did notice that the hostess's eyes often went to the door during a wine explanation, which personally bothered me a bit. Furthermore, it is a complete evening program! I personally found the “sweet” dessert to be somewhat disappointing in terms of its flat taste. Other dishes delicious and top! Nice details are napkins that are folded nicely when you have been to the toilet and bottles of sparkling water are replaced in a timely manner. Too bad Amex wasn't accepted. Furthermore, we had a beautiful, unforgettable evening.

What a great evening yesterday! The food, atmosphere and service were fantastic. Each dish is a painting on your plate, the matching wines are surprising and tasty, even for the one vegetarian in our group, time was taken to explain the wines and dishes. The dinner was in honor of our 25th wedding anniversary and made a valuable contribution to a top evening. Thanks for this fantastic evening!

Went for the surprise seven course menu, and every item was a revelation. Most interesting combinations of unexpected items that worked out well, such as ßbeef tongue and scallops. Every single course was a thought-throw composition of flavours and textures. The wine surprising, but after the taste very well chosen. Service and venue impeccable. Best restaurant I have been in the Netherlands. Will go there next time in Leiden.

A very good restaurant indeed! Everything was delicious and the portions were quite decent for a seven-course dinner. The only thing I did not like that much was the soufflé as it lacked the fluffiness due to the addition of oranges, however the flavor was rather special with an almost pudding-like texture.

Gemengde ervaring! Pluspunten: wordt op niveau gekookt, bijzondere gerechten en smaken, prima bediening. Minpunten: storend gehorig vooral in het midden, porties zijn écht te klein (ben met honger weggegaan) én men liet veel te veel tijd tussen de gerechten in zitten. Kale sfeer ook. Desondanks de haute cuisine niet voor herhaling vatbaar en zal het ook niet aanraden. Al met al, gek genoeg een dure teleurstelling.

Mixed experience! Pros: cooked to a high standard, special dishes and flavors, excellent service. Negative points: disturbingly noisy, especially in the middle, portions are really too small (I left hungry) and far too much time was allowed between dishes. Bare atmosphere too. Nevertheless, the haute cuisine is not worth repeating and will not recommend it either. All in all, strangely enough, an expensive disappointment.

Had a 7 course dinner, delicious dishes and beautifully served. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable, they know what they are serving. Chefs in the kitchen are relaxed, which means everything is very well prepared.

Went there with our family and they accommodate us perfectly (one little baby) plus adjusted to one gluten free and one person not eating meat. Everything was delicious and also beautiful, all the plates looked like little art pieces.

The food and wine was excellent. We opted for the 7-course meal, but didn't add the wine pairing (as a glass per course would have been too much - we did some half glasses and skipped a few). We enjoyed the different flavours and textures of all the dishes. The tempo of serving was also on par. The only thing is that I would have expected this to be a bit more posh, but it was quite noisy and the smart casual dresscode was not adhered to (I think that always adds to the atmosphere of a fancy dining experience).

I have never seen someone in ministry miss the mark as much as they did tonight.

Suzie’s & Van Aken is a hidden gem in a not very touristy part of the Netherlands. It is in Oegstgeest, near Leiden, half an hour from Amsterdam. It is a year ago, exactly when we have discovered Suzie’s & Van Aken. We loved it last year and again, last night! One goes to a restaurant for two main reasons: good food and attentive service. Suzie’s & Van Aken has both! The food is fantastic! The seven course menu, which we chose (there are other options, too) - is carefully designed to eat it all, without feeling too full - by the end of the evening. However, when the eighth one appeared - which is optional - offered with our tea or coffee: a plate of gorgeous, freshly baked madeleines, we were feeling really well fed :0) ! Let’s start from the beginning. After a very tasty extra - a wonderful selection of ‘amuse bouche’ - they serve five different kind of ‘starters’. One more delicious than the other: four of them are various seafood variations. The fourth course then included a beautiful confit de canard filled raviolo. All these are just 'runner ups', before the main, which was a divine plate of gorgeous beef. If I have to indicate a small, constructive criticism: a little larger portion of fresh vegetables, accompanying our delicate, beautiful meat would’ve been very welcome, at this point. The concluding course was up to our choice: either a dessert or a cheese plate. We both opted for the sweet one, which turned out to be an excellent choice, as it was a symphony of delights with fig ice cream, ginger jelly cubes, and many other gorgeous things around and underneath these. I could’ve eaten a bucket of it – even after my six courses, it was so delish! One can choose the seven courses accompanying them with a carefully selected and matching wine selection. We didn’t, but judging from our neighbours’ tables, it too was a wonderful experience. Suzie, who was in charge of that part of the menu, gave a well informed and detailed explanation about every single glass, accompanying the meal. We only had an aperitif, but that was also introduced to us, beautifully, when served: a glass of delicious and refreshing Crémant de Bourgogne. Talking of attentive service - at Suzie’s & Van Aken this was performed so professionally, it was the other highlight of our evening. From replacing our ice cubes, at the table, every time we needed another portion for our water, to arranging our napkins, while we left the table for a toilet break, the service by the entire staff was attentive and delicate. We were even consulted, whether the rhythm of the serving of our many dishes – arriving to our table suited us. Was it too fast, too slow or were we happy with it – we were asked. What more can I say: we were delighted by Suzie and the entire waitering team’s contribution to a memorable evening. We are definitely not going to wait a whole year to return to Suzie’s & Van Aken – we plan to be back much sooner. Not least, to try the many further dishes on offer, which intrigued us, as they were served to other guests, while we were there! They too looked wonderful, very much worth a return to taste them! Thank you very much Chef and the entire hard working kitchen crew and Suzie and the whole team in ‘front of house’ - making our outing such a memorable evening!

Nice restaurant We enjoyed the 3 course menu but the are the same portions as the 5 or more course menu and I def found the portions too small I experienced the service as pretty intense. If you are looking for a lot of attention to detail and description of your course including pointing out each micro drop on the plate. The supposedly chocolate dessert had hardly any chocolate They charged for the little Madeline cakes served with the coffee. The dish with the pork belly was the best! Not sure I would return

Delicious dishes served like a work of art with very good matching wines. A compelling story is told with an explanation for each wine. The service is excellent.

Expectations were exceeded. Creative dishes; well flavored and combined with beautiful wines. It's handy that the wines were also offered in half glasses so that you can easily pair them with the dishes. White Brigade at an excellent level. This should earn a Michelin star.

Delicious food. We had planned the 5 course lunch but it ended up being 6. Food was delicious, matching wine too. Beautiful dishes and friendly service. I have 1 negative point. We had made a reservation at 12.30. Logically, everyone will be there a little earlier. We were not allowed inside. Despite the rain (the awning was turned off so we were dry). I don't think that is very customer friendly. Also not in line with the otherwise excellent service. Perhaps a tip to indicate this from now on when people reserve at 12.30. Everything else was really great.

We had such a delicious meal in this restaurant last week. We were not the easiest eaters. Allergy to vetsin and shellfish. Then someone didn't want meat either. I can imagine that the kitchen will then face a challenge. However, the kitchen brigade responded wonderfully. Only compliments.

Amazing experience and excellent service. It is not a big restaurant but very bright and well decorated. As it gets busy, it might be a bit noisy. Tried the 5 course menu and each option was different and a cocktail of textures and flavours. Pescatarian and vegetarian options are also available. Would recommend.

The service was good, on the level of what you would expect in this price range. The food was good, didn't disappoint but to be honest I wasn't flabbergasted either. I would have liked to be surprised a bit more. The wine pairing was good. Regarding the atmosphere, I found the table was a bit too high for the chairs and the room acoustics wasn't great, a bit noisy.

We had a very nice dinner at Suzie’s & Van Aken. Parking is oké. They don’t have a parking area for the restaurant but there is ample parking space along the (busy) street on which the restaurant is located. The restaurant it self just had a remodeling done and looks fresh and light with a beautiful open kitchen. Seats are comfortable and staff very kind and attentive. Suzie runs the front of the house and is the sommelier. The menu basically is a number of surprise dishes (up to seven) but if you prefer you can order from the menu. They have an extensive wine list and do wine pairings as well. We did the pairing; some very nice wines but for me just missing maybe that “wow” feeling that you sometimes get when you drink a special wine. The wines Suzie offered did pair nicely with the food! The food itself was plenty (we did five courses) and looked really beautiful on the plate. Taste wise is was great! It has some Asian influences and was well seasoned. Best dish of the night; slow cooked pork belly! Price was right for what you get at this restaurant. Why not five stars? For me the restaurant was a bit noisy. We had to concentrate a bit more then usual to follow the conversation at our table. And the wine; great but missing that one special glass that you hope they have for their guests! But; I will definitely come back and for other foodies out there this is a bit of a hidden gem! Because we went here during early spring I don’t know if they offer outside seating as well. If they do I would be a little worried about the road noise. People tend to drive pretty fast here.

Rarely so much attention to detail as everything was just right. The interior is modern yet warm and inviting and the service is friendly and very professional. We opted for the 5-course dinner with wine package. Great flavors with surprising combinations. The wines chosen by Suzie were, in a word, top notch. We will definitely come back.

An absolute tip for anyone who loves and appreciates fine dining: We had a wonderful evening with Suzie and Tom. A very exciting and perfectly prepared 7-course menu that Suzie accompanied with great wine tips (single glasses also possible). Four hours flew by - Bib Gourmand's recommendation is absolutely understandable - for your great commitment and your great dishes, I hope that Michelin might soon award you your first star. We will definitely come back at the next opportunity.

Innovative dishes and good price-quality ratio for the bib gourmant menu that we chose. Also stylish, knowledgeable service. Just a shame about poor acoustics, which causes a cacophony of sounds to become disturbing after a while.

This is not a Bib Gourmand, but a 1-star restaurant for the price of a Bib Gourmand - a real bargain. Everything perfect and to the point! Big praise for the sommelieue, who adequately conveyed the enthusiasm for the wines she selected. Thanks for the experience! To criticize something: a few bike racks in front of the house would help.

Clear restaurant, cute little menu with a 3-course bib gourmande menu (€55), one taste explosion after another. Extremely attentive service. Definitely worth eating there again.

Simply delicious! Each course and the appetizers a complex interplay of flavors and structures. We had a 3 course menu and because of corona only until 8 pm. I will definitely come back for a quiet and more extensive dinner. It leaves you wanting more.

Frequently ordered here during corona times and had it delivered. Super service and delicious food! The food was very well packaged and presented. Suzie's cakes are also really fantastic! Hopefully we will be able to dine in house soon.

Excellent food, delicious wine pairings, very friendly and knowledgeable service. In terms of food, everything is actually 5 stars, but the location is on a relatively busy road, which makes the view less beautiful, but that does not detract from the quality and service of the food.

Really good food here. We chose the Toro tuna and oysters in advance. Delicious tuna! The oysters were served with a sauce containing ginger, lime and red pepper. You would think it's way too intense, but no. Then three more courses, all equally delicious and accompanied by a matching glass of wine. Top! Add to that cheerful and friendly service and our evening couldn't have been better. Recommended!!

Fantastic meal tonight. Super combinations that you would not come up with yourself with meat and fish. Absolutely great. Absolutely worthy of a Michelin star, which they don't have yet. But that doesn't bother us, it might bother them...
