A pleasant stopover with surprisingly good service! On a Friday evening, we were touring and spontaneously came across the charming town of Otterlo. The terraces were pleasantly packed, and the village truly exuded a friendly atmosphere. This caught our attention, so we turned the motorbike around and decided to eat here. Luckily, there was still a table available. We were served quickly and friendly, with drinks on the table and the menu in hand. Despite the crowd, everything went smoothly: the service was prompt, attentive, and well-coordinated. The menu was simple but perfect—no frills, but deliciously prepared. The food was on the table in no time, and it tasted excellent. After a delicious meal and a full stomach, we hopped back on the motorbike and continued our journey. The weather also cooperated, which completed the picture. In short: a lovely place to spontaneously stop by, with a pleasant atmosphere and a kitchen that delivers on its promises. Definitely a place to remember when we're in the area again!

We only went here for coffee, cappuccino, and apple pie. The cappuccino and coffee were indistinguishable in size. It was a small cup and definitely not a cappuccino. There was no milk foam and it tasted a bit sour. The apple pie tasted like it came from the freezer. Watery and lacking in flavor. Not recommended.

The food is excellent and reasonably priced. However, the service is a bit chaotic. A few helpful tips: If something goes wrong with the order, don't argue with the customer about who's right. In my line of work, the customer is always right, and you resolve the issue. If someone dines alone, treat them as if they're welcome and want to have a pleasant evening. See the person and give them the same attention you would a table of six.

Ordered a carpaccio sandwich today. It was disappointing: 1 brown roll with some carpaccio and a load of lettuce on top. Lettuce, yes, not arugula but lettuce with tomato and egg. This was just as disappointing considering that it also cost €15.

Perfect spot for a tasty satay or something. Don't expect a Michelin star, but also don't expect a glorified snack bar. Where else can you get a good chicken breast satay (and not that greasy, disgusting chicken thigh) for 16 euros these days... 👍👍 The service was also very friendly and quick, even though it was busy. Affogado was also absolutely fantastic! 👌😋

We had a wonderful experience at 't Smulhuis in Otterlo! It was the perfect place to stop for a meal. The food was absolutely delicious—freshly prepared, with generous portions that were great value. Everything you could want from a classic Dutch snack bar was done perfectly. What truly made our visit special, however, was the service. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, serving everyone with a genuine smile. Their wonderful attitude created a fantastic, positive atmosphere that made the whole experience even better. If you are in Otterlo and looking for delicious food served by genuinely lovely people, you absolutely must visit 't Smulhuis. We highly recommend it and will definitely be back on our next visit to the area!

The food was truly some of the worst I've ever eaten! Considering the high price, you feel like you've been ripped off! Everything tasted old, cheap, and stale. After eating, you felt like you were going to get sick. The service was slow and not particularly friendly, and the ambiance right on the main street and the cheap furnishings don't help either. Don't go there under any circumstances; get something proper around the corner.

Good place to eat and drink, looks neat and has polite staff. Unfortunately, they don't have satay croquettes, but that won't spoil my day!

A mediocre restaurant, more like a Chinese/snack bar, but in a very inviting location. Don't expect too much. Quite high prices for a snack bar in disguise.

We stopped at 't Smulhuis for lunch, intending to grab a bite to eat. After waiting fifteen minutes and helping five other groups who arrived after us, we left and ate elsewhere. If you want to be treated like a pariah, go to 't Smulhuis.

We found it uninviting. The staff acted as if they didn't want to work. My husband had a meatball sandwich. It was a good price for what you got. I had a chicken salad. Unfortunately, it was fried chicken. It was also very expensive for what you got.

We went to 't Smulhuis for dinner with friends. What a lovely afternoon we had! The food was delicious. I had half a chicken, which was perfectly cooked; the meat fell off the bone, delicious. It came with delicious fries. I asked if it could be salt-free (due to my kidneys), and that was no problem. Compliments to the chef(s) and the service; it was superb. Thanks everyone!

Bad, not even worth a star. I used to have delicious food, but now it's incredibly bad and expensive. Despite reporting this, I paid the full bill of €66.60, which was a waste of money. The staff was friendly and tried to make something of it. I received two extra spare ribs (€25.00), but it still wasn't a filling meal. The shrimp teriyaki (€24.00) was also just 6 shrimp 🤔 and tasteless.

Just ate here. Ordered bitterlemon had all pieces in it, according to the service this was supposed to be. Pork tenderloin was very tough. And the schnitzel was very small. Service very slow and not friendly. Walk back empty-handed while your table is full of empty glasses. We sat at the end of the terrace, they only came once for drinks, it was 30 degrees. Raised our hand a few times but service did not look at it. Not really recommended

Het is een ruim opgezet eetcafé. Uitgebreide menukaart. Het eten dat langs komt ziet er goed uit. We hebben er pannenkoeken gegeten. Die waren gewoon goed.

Wat een teleurstelling, eten ziet er onaantrekkelijk uit. Broodje hamburger , 15 euro !!, was werkelijk niet te eten. Vlees, broodje, saus, alles smaakloos, gewoon vies eigenlijk. Geen aanrader. !

This used to be a glorified snack bar but has been transformed into a full-fledged restaurant with Asian influences, from good pancakes, Black Agnes to Chinese. Also nice local beers on the beer menu.

Would you mind drastically changing the recipe for the meatballs? I suddenly became infertile after eating this "meatball" now I will never know what it is like to see my son fall off his bike. How bizarre

Chinese food picked up at 't Smulhuis. Quality, taste etc. is good. Seems to be a bit more expensive than the Chinese in Harskamp. But maybe the portions are a bit bigger there; I don't know. We had menu A and B, among other things. Should be for 2 to 3 people. We usually have 4 people left over; so the portions are big enough. They also have a savings system by means of a stamp card. And that put a damper on the party this time. We had a whole group and therefore had an order of € 173.50!! We hand in a full savings card and therefore get a 10 euro discount. And then it comes: you would expect that for the approximately remaining 160 euros, you would get 16 stamps on a new savings card. But no: "You will not receive any stamps when you hand in a full card". If I had known that, you would hand in the card for a small order (according to the conditions, it must be at least € 10), but then the lack of new stamps would not be as great as it is now. Such a stamp card is intended to bind customers, but in this way it worked counterproductively. The Chinese lady could not be persuaded otherwise, despite my objections and because she immediately tore it into pieces when handing it in, the matter could not be reversed. Missed opportunity. Long story with the intention of warning you. Spend the hard-earned stamps wisely and do not be surprised!

2022: Smulhuis is always good: smooth and friendly service and very good (cafeteria) dishes. Price/quality ratio is very good. Here you can fill yourself up for less than 10 euros (bami or nasi dish). Plenty of choice! 2025: Smulhuis is still good, including the service. However, prices have risen considerably (although not in the catering industry). Now you can eat the same delicious bami or nasi dish for 16 euros. A total of 60% increase compared to 2022. But I still keep coming to the Smulhuis. And this year also occasionally picked up delicious snacks, fries and Chinese dishes.

Tasty and not expensive, quite a nice restaurant. Update: Had dinner here again on Easter Monday with the four of us. Was fun. Luckily we had made a reservation because the restaurant was quite full. The food was super tasty, the portions just big enough and also affordable. Despite the crowds, we were served quickly and politely.

We thought this was a nice restaurant with the fastest service ever, comparable to rockets. They were also very nice. We were surrounded by people from the army, and we heard them blasting at the Kruller Muller Museum. We would love to come back here! Also tasty chili sauce

We spontaneously went out for dinner on Friday evening. The service was very friendly and immediately asked whether the menu should be in Dutch or English. The map is manageable. The food was very tasty. Unfortunately we didn't take any photos. But what can be seen here was also very impressive for us. Food and drink for two people €51. Fits!

Had a nice lunch on the spacious terrace on a sunny day in March. Also easily accessible for motorcycles.

We stayed outside (it was still chilly) because our friend is very susceptible to chemo...the terrace is not super cozy but it was fine. Staff are friendly and the food is excellent. Neat and tidy toilets inside.

The young man at the counter apparently cannot take an order. Incomplete order and the children have no food... and if you call later you are told that we have placed the wrong order? Listening well is apparently a profession in itself and apparently they don't do it after delivery either!! Bagger company!! Considering their reaction, we were disappointed but didn't scold. Very childish to mention it like that. You could have just delivered it anyway. But no, we are allowed to waste gasoline (due to a mistake that can happen) on your side. Taking responsibility is the polite thing to do instead of pointing the finger at the customer.

It was nice and cozy. It was just very quiet.

We had a wonderful evening at 't Smulhuis. It is in a beautiful location, has free parking behind the restaurant and is beautifully and pleasantly decorated. The food was tasty with a wide selection. There was also plenty of choice for drinks with very tasty cocktails. The staff was super friendly and attentive. Super tent and highly recommended!

Gaan lunchen en samen met mijn man een gerecht van 3 kippen- en 3 varkenssate's gedeeld met pindasaus, nasi goreng en een potje koolsla. Heel lekker! Dessert appelgebak met slagroom (ook samen gedeeld). Alles samen met een flesje witte wijn 59 euro. Helemaal niet duur, maar wij zijn geen grote eters. Voor ons wqs alles dik in orde, ook de vriendelijke en snelle bediening!

Tasty but quite expensive, small portions, all additions can be ordered separately and charged for, previously it was a luxury snack bar with large portions, now it really seems like a restaurant without side dishes, we spent 3 tens per person. Too bad, we liked to come here when we visited family in the Veluwe from Friesland

Had dinner with my aunt tonight. Chicken satay and pork tenderloin. Fries were a bit too greasy and taking the order took a while. Decoration is fantastic.
