Tearose Hightea and lunch Deventer in Wijk 1 Binnenstad

We had a delicious lunch at Tearose. Luckily, we'd made a reservation, as it was very busy. The atmosphere is what you'd expect from an English restaurant. Wonderfully cozy with beautiful tableware. And, of course, delicious tea.

Steak and Guinness pie, really great.

For this amount an extra pot of tea could be served, but the food is very tasty.

Had a high tea with my mother on Thursday. The food was a bit disappointing for the price, but it is a nice place to sit. The service on the other hand was interesting. The boy/man who received us was super nice, spontaneous, made a joke and had a lot of knowledge. I thought the 2 girls were very strange. They were openly talking about how often they had to go to the toilet, their bladder capacity, that they get far too little pay and complaining about how little tip they get. I am in favor of not too businesslike and a nice atmosphere between colleagues, but I did not think this was very nice. Would not go there again in this way.

A very disappointing experience. The pies hardly had any filling and were dry and over heated. The pie was very small and did not match the price point. The only thing worth eating on the plate was the friet. We will definitely not go back, so many better value/quality eateries available in Deventer. Most people present appeared to come for the High Tea experience which is most probably good. Lunch was not.

Our experience at The Tea Rose was nothing short of horrible. We had planned a baby shower and were promised that some decorations would be arranged and that we could bring some ourselves. When we arrived there was not much decoration except a few bows. Fortunately, we brought our own decorations and decorated it further ourselves. The employees were very unfriendly and not helpful at all. They had a cake for us, but it was already cut into pieces, which wasn't a problem in itself. When we asked if they could cut some more pieces because there were more people, we received the incomprehensible answer that this was not possible. After paying a huge amount for the high tea, to our surprise we had to clean up the decorations ourselves. The employees literally threw a broom at us and ordered us to clean everything. We cleaned up everything ourselves, but it felt like we were employees rather than customers. The atmosphere was anything but welcoming, the employees were condescending and unfriendly. about 80% of the selection was sweet, which completely disrupted the balance between sweet and savory. This made the high tea anything but a successful experience. We had to ask the waiter ourselves if we could get something to drink, as they never came by. The service was anything but attentive. The whole event felt incredibly amateurish. From the promise of decorations that was not kept, to the completely disinterested staff, it was clear that there was no care or professionalism in this. Even after paying a huge amount of money we were not treated like guests but more like staff. Cleaning up the decorations, including getting a broom set up, was the icing on the cake. In short, we absolutely do not recommend The Tea Rose. The food was poorly balanced, the service was rude and unprofessional, and the atmosphere was anything but festive. A terrible experience that we certainly do not want to repeat. It was 30 degrees that day and it turned out there was no air conditioning, which made the situation even worse. We couldn't open a window, so it became very hot in the room. It was truly unbearable and made the experience even more uncomfortable. In addition to the aforementioned problems with the food, service and disinterested employees, the lack of refreshment was really the last straw. It felt like there was no attention paid to the comfort of the guests at all. All in all it was a terrible experience that we would not recommend to anyone. We absolutely do not recommend The Tea Rose! A very disappointing experience, and certainly not worth it.

Had high tea, excellent service, tables are a bit small if you have a high tea with 4 of you. The food itself was not very special and we found the scones very dry. Nice old-fashioned atmosphere. Nice that you can also buy a lot of tea like this

Today, Dickens Day, we went for a nice sandwich. 2 cheese and 2 sausage sandwiches, 3 tea and chocolate milk. Scratching sandwiches fine. Cheese sandwiches terrible! Without butter and half a slice of cheese on an old roll. Very bad and you pay 27 euros for that! Ps couldn't post without guessing something.

Very nice place in old center of the Hanse city of Deventer. I can recommend it. Only reason not 5 star for food and drink: We ordered 2 pints of Guiness thinking it would be from a kegg and it came from a tin. That was a bit dissappointing.

Very tasty food, but I wouldn't come back here anytime soon. We paid 33.50 for a high tea, which I think is very pricey. Upon arrival we were given a confusing story about changing drinks if you didn't want tea. We understood that you were allowed 2 special coffees. Waitress indicated that she would come back and explain again when the 3rd person returned. Waitress didn't come back. After waiting a while another waitress came to explain. The 2 special coffees turned out to be incorrect. There was only 1, but because this had been promised earlier, we would still get it. From entering to receiving our food took 50 minutes. While we had already indicated all wishes and stated what we wanted when booking. Apart from this, I think waiting 50 minutes is very long. We finished our drinks pretty quickly. No one ever came to ask if we wanted something to drink. We never got the 2nd special coffee.

We visted Tearose Saturday 12.10.24. Rather busy early afternoon. Food was very disappointing. Scones, had no taste, hard and partly too dark baked. Tray with savoury pieces looked good, tasted good, however for the price we paid the serving portion should have been a more filling portion. We left disappointed.

Today we spent a day in Deventer from Limburg. Tipped off by a travel blog about Tearose, egg benedict (delicious!) and had scones. I don't understand all the negativity in the reviews. I think most of those who are negative here have never been to the UK, I have never eaten anything more British than this in the Netherlands. The only minor downside is the tea I chose, a bit dull in taste, but next time I'll just choose a different one ;) we'll be back 😀

Due to my husband's chronic lung disease, we had to cancel our well-deserved holiday by the sea. We walked in Deventer and the location of you felt For us it feels like a bit of a holiday. Thank you for the delicacy... if my husband's health allows, we will order from you again. Price and location are right, if a customer writes a negative review about your service? This is their problem and not yours. Super sweet girls, you get 5 stars from us today. We would love to visit you again! Being open on Monday mornings in the summer months seems very sensible to us. Had a nice lunch here. It was tasty and the location was super nice. Service super friendly. A bit out of proportion in terms of price and quantity. You get something special with a crumpet, for example. Never had it before. Everything seemed freshly made. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the terrace with the nice weather.

Such a shame that things are deteriorating so much. Been coming here for years. In recent years it was always a party. Now for the third time we are really wondering what happened. The cook left six months ago. Maybe that's why. But for example a savory table with tiny pieces (2 by 2 cm) of something indescribable. Preferably not vegetarian. Got everything vegetarian. A real shame. 17 euros for 6 mini snacks. dNot filling, left hungry.

Location location location...that's what you pay for. Super nice place in the city center of Deventer. An attractive terrace when the weather is nice. Service is friendly. There is a choice of different types of high tea. However, if you have to eat gluten-free, you will be disappointed. Although I ate enough, the taste left much to be desired. The price-quality ratio is hard to find. In fact, except for the salad with chorizo, everything was very dry. Fortunately, there was clotted cream and jam, so the cake, brownie and scone were still somewhat edible. In fact, the scone was impossible to cut, it was so hard. During checkout, it was noted that the price was high for the quality delivered. The response was that I should have said that during high tea, then they could have done something about it. However, when clearing the table, the disappointing quality was already reported. In my opinion, everything was bought ready-made and left out of the packaging for too long. No unlimited tea. Refilling the pot with hot water is free, hot water with a bag costs €6.00. While I initially thought I would go back again because of the place, on second thought it is not worth the drive from Enschede. The rest of my group enjoyed the homemade (?) delicacies. And what was left could be taken in a container. Edit in response to the owner's response: I'm not the one in the photo and if you look closely, the person is looking at the phone and not angry. We did have a nice afternoon.

The tearose is absoutely beautiful. It's an amazing place to have a great cup of tea and you will greatly enjoy the scenary of the outside terras. I would highly recommend having a cup of tea at this location during your stay in Deventer.

Had high tea with my grandchildren yesterday. Price quality very expensive. There were only unhealthy things for the children. In addition to the cakes, there were 14 sweets on their etagère. I understand that a high tea is sweet, but I think this is very over the top in terms of sweetness.

Located in a very beautiful spot in the historic city center of Deventer. However, upon entering we had to wait a long time before someone came to check if there was room. Then we had to wait a very long time for the menu, and another long wait before we could order. Communication from the service really needs improvement. The food was ok. Half of the fish tasted very good, but the other half (tail) had a different taste. The long wait had a negative impact on the overall experience, which is why I would no longer recommend this.

Overrated in my opinion. We wait quite a while at the designated sign before we are noticed. There is an aid for going to the toilet in the form of handles, but no hook for a coat or bag. During the waiting time we had plenty of time to browse through the page-full tea menu. You can order tea here per pot for €6.50 and that is three English tea cups. It's a shame that you won't be trying out all those choices anytime soon We wait next to a cupboard full of merchandise; translucent plastic bags filled with loose tea for the price of one teapot (€6.50), an abundance of choice, but the tea didn't seem very special to me, the strings of mainly dried black ones. No origin stated or fresh tea for example. There is a huge menu with some waffles, finger sandwiches, crumpets: small pan-fried sandwiches that are served per 2 (± €13) / per 3 (± €16) of your choice. We saw small round pies, and high teas. There is a lot to see, frills (paintings + vase with golf balls) everywhere without really a theme, it is very clean, the old counter is prominently present over the full length of the room, which feels like a room filled with two or four-person rectangular tables. At the end the filled display case "all home-baked" carrot, chocolate foam, red velvet cakes. Partly attractive English decoration, but the straight leather typical catering dining room chairs look particularly out of place. Acoustically I don't think this is recommended, very high building and a lot of noise even though it was not full yet. We think the prices are high. High tea starting from ±€30 p.p. incl. one pot of tea. We had cake and coffee: beans from an unknown brand and the hostess had to look at the bag to tell me what they were. Mediocre quality cappuccino, fully automatic coffee machine. I didn't feel like second. Cake was tasty, certainly not the best I ate, more mediocre. An English variant of the Arretjes cake contains fudge (I didn't recognize it). A home made lemon meringue with a pleasant structure and absolutely not too sweet, that part was very tasty but the point was certainly missing, essential for this cake, the acid of lemon. I would personally visit one of the many other coffee shops, but if you like crumpets and English pies this could be your place.

Very nice place half hidden in the beautiful street of Deventer. Typically English-style tent where it's all about tea, crumpets and scones. The savory crumpets were very tasty and filling for lunch. The tea comes in a large pot. The staff were a bit bickering when we were there, but that had no influence on the atmosphere or the service.

Had a high tea with my sister, between Christmas and New Year's Eve. An insanely busy time for the catering staff, but we didn't notice any of that. It was full but so cozy, warm, atmospheric and nice! The staff was extremely nice and helpful. It took a while for our high tea to arrive but the food... ohhh my... the food was soooooooo good!!! I have never had such a fantastic high tea as this. My sister and I do this every year for one of our birthdays and this one stands far, far above any others in the area. My absolute favorite of the high tea was the crumpet. You won't forget that taste, excellent! I will definitely come visit with my husband soon. You are fantastic!

Worth the detour. It doesn't get better than here. Attractive, cozy furnishings and a special menu in an English atmosphere with dishes that are served as beautifully as described. More than worth a visit. Reservations are possible and certainly recommended to avoid disappointment.

Een fantastisch Engels theehuis midden in de Deventer binnenstad. Je waant je gelijk in Engeland met de hele enthourage binnen. Een echte aanrader. Wel even reserveren!

Best een leuke zaak met aardig personeel maar die prijzen zijn veel te hoog. 3 mini broodjes met tonijn voor €17,50 is echt veel te duur. Kleine chaithee €4,25. Gaat nergens over.

High tea gehad, eten opzich was prima. Maar voor die prijs wel meer verwacht en verwacht dat je onbeperkt thee zou kunnen bestellen.. Wat ons toch wel (nogsteeds) verbaast is dat je maar 1 potje thee bij de high tea zit. Je kan maar uit 1 smaak kiezen, tenzij extra thee (tegen betaling) besteld. Service was mwah, er werd niet langsgekomen om te vragen of alles naar wens was/iets extra's wilde etc. We moesten ze zelf benaderen en zelfs naar de bar gelopen. Ze waren vooral onderling aan het kletsen.. Zitting van de stoelen zijn vrij kort, waardoor je toch minder lekker zit.

Geweldige sfeer, heerlijke cappuccino en gebak gehad. Vriendelijk personeel.

Het was allemaal heel lekker wat we voorgeschoteld kregen bij de lunch in de TeaRose. De bediening was goed, vriendelijk en attent en sfeer is heel gezellig en comfortabel, kortom TOP!

Super leuke engelse tearoom. Bediening is erg vriendelijk en het eten was goed. Bij de muffin en pie miste ik een beetje kruiden. Verder prima eten. Toilet rook helaas niet zo fris.

Een heel gezellige locatie voor een afternoon tea. De hartige items waren erg lekker( hadden iets warmer gekund. Maar goed van smaak) Vriendelijke bediening. Zoete items ook lekker. Het enige jammer is dat er Clotted cream wordt beloofd. Maar dat is het zeker niet. Het is een mengsel van crème fraiche(?) met room Of mascarpone of iets. Het is namelijk spierwit en fris van smaak. Wanneer je clotted cream beloofd moet je dat ook serveren. Iets anders omdat dat goedkoper/makkelijker/jouw keuze is? Geen probleem, maar geef het gewoon een andere naam. Verwachtingen zijn dan na te komen en Britten worden niet beledigd.

Gezellige entourage voor een afternoon tea. Vriendelijk personeel. Op zich lekkere hapjes. Minpunt de clotted cream was niet echt maar een variant die naar sour cream smaakte Jammer dat de keuken beweerde dat het wel echt was "zelfgemaakt op traditionele wijze". Een domper op de verder lekkere afternoon tea.

Heerlijke appelgebak met koffie erbij. Was er nog nooit binnen geweest. Maar ga zeker vaker. Ook leuke dingen om cadeau te geven vanuit Deventer. 1 minpuntje is het geluid. Doordat er geen gordijnen of een kleedje op de grond ligt heb je weergalming van het geluid. Kreeg bezoek cadeau. Weet dus niets van prijzen.

Wat een heerlijk plekje en lekkere echt Engelse gerechten en taart. Absoluut aan aanrader!
