Highly recommended. It's always busy here, and not just because the tourists come! You don't go here for polite service. It's called a "snack bar" for a reason, meaning it's for a quick bite. However, the quality far surpasses the average snack bar. Truly one of my favorite spots in the city! Despite having the same name as the restaurant across the street, they've had a different owner and chef for quite some time now. You can taste it... for quality, this is the snack bar you go to!

Incredible. I think it's the best Thai food I've ever had. Anything you order is delicious. The place is small, and you may have to share a table with someone, but it was never uncomfortable. I'm only posting a photo of the soup because everything looked so good that I forgot to make more before eating. The service was fast and friendly.

Been here a few times already, its a very very small thai restaurant/snackbar. I think inside only 10 people fit with seating and with good weather maybe another 8-10 outside on their sidewalk seating. The part where they cook is open so you can see how they cook, and I can tell... its pretty much in thai style, which is crazy to see. The menu has surprisingly a lot of options, from beef, pig, chicken and vegetarian options, spicy and not spicy. So far everything we ate was prepared in a very acceptable waiting time and was very very tasty! I think they are here at least 30 years already and they do show this in their food, its good.. healthy and tasty. Compared to other restaurants, the portions are very very good, more then anywhere else (when you go to Thailand, you would also get big portions of food, same here, be it a bit smaller) Be sure to pick the correct place to eat, there are 2 bird restaurants, and only the very very small one with the yellow signs is the correct one. The other bird on the other side of the street has been sold and has nothing to do anymore with this small thai restaurant.

You need to queue during meal time, but it's worth it! The food is authentic and delicious, the portions are generous and very delicious, and the price is affordable. I recommend it!

If you come here at 8:45 pm, you won't get anything to eat... And that's for a regular customer.

I had dinner here and it was a mixed experience. I ordered the Tom Yam Koeng and the Kou Pad "BIRD" Luom Mid. The Kou Pad was excellent - a flavorful and well-executed dish that we really enjoyed. However, the Tom Yam Koeng was a bit of a letdown. It didn't taste like the traditional Tom Yam I had in Thailand, perhaps it's a Dutch adaptation of the dish. ​The restaurant itself is very small, and it was quite hot inside, which made the dining experience a bit uncomfortable. There were a few benches outside, which would be a better option on a nice day. ​Overall, if you're looking for a quick and tasty Thai meal, this is a decent option, but don't expect a completely authentic Thai taste, especially with their Tom Yam.

To start, we were in the queue, and when we were almost about to be served, one of the staff came over and asked if we were getting take-away. We said no, and they started laughing right in our faces. The service is terrible, absolutely awful. The people working there couldn’t care less about the customers. When the food arrives, it’s literally thrown onto the table in front of you. I ordered a Pad Thai, it wasn’t the worst I’ve had, but it definitely wasn’t the best either. In terms of flavor, only the noodles had any taste; if you ate the vegetables on their own, they were completely bland, zero flavor at all. I was really excited to try this restaurant’s food, but it turned out to be nothing but a disappointment, especially because of the attitude of the staff. Service quality: -10. Do I recommend this SNACKBAR??? HELL NOOOO

Not a fancy spot, we sat at a table outside and service was extremely casual. But food was delicious!!! And huge. We could not finish and got to take the rest to go!

They were busy but you can tell they cater to the bigger parties. The food was great when grandma is in the kitchen but I reordered a chicken satay and the second time it tasted nothing like the first & that’s because grandma was taking a lunch break right next to my table. Make sure grandma is cooking for the most flavorful Thai food ever. Highly recommend dipping the spare ribs in the peanut sauce- next level flavor

Delicious curry, excellent quality!! We haven't had one this good since being in Thailand! You have to arrive early to get a table, as it's small and they don't accept reservations. The downside was the service, specifically the waiter in charge, who spoke to us in a dismissive and rude manner for no reason. If it weren't for him, it would have been a 10/10 experience!

The food was very good. This was my third trip to Amsterdam, and my third time there. The restaurant is right across the street, as this one only has a few tables. The pad thai and masaman are incredible.

The food is very well prepared, with authentic flavors and generous portions. It's an affordable place, perfect for enjoying Thai dishes without breaking the bank. The place isn't the most comfortable or the best atmosphere, but it more than makes up for it in flavor and price. Thanks to the cook.

There are several waiters and they don't pay attention to the customers. I don't recommend it, it was just horrible, they could see that my friend was having lunch but at no time did they come to ask me and the other customers were served as they went along. In addition they are not accommodating in the food we asked for a dish without meat and the dish of my friend arrived with sickening pieces of meat . 🤮 Besides I never got my ordered dish.

The best Phad Thai and Soup I ever had

A tiny restaurant with great foods. Portion size is huge. Highly recommend Curry dishes. Pad Thai is good but a bit too sweet to me.

This little gem is a winner when it comes to decent food. The food was pretty decent and the price was even better for somewhere in central Amsterdam. Just a short walk from the bulldog coffee shop is is on a busy walking route. We went when it was as 29c outside, there was 2 of us and they sat us next to another couple in what can be described as the worlds smallest restaurant It was a sweat box. Managing to then get a space on the bench outside and it so much better. Had the Tom Yum and it was pretty decent. Not the best I’ve had but very close Also we had the Massaman curry and it was really good. We shared on dish between 2 and it was just enough Would go back there. Staff were good. Only one nice guy the folk in the kitchen were having a bad day and were a bit rude.

It's been a long time since I've had a blast at a Thai restaurant, but this one had it all. Thank you.

Leider eine herbe Enttäuschung. Die Frühöingsrollen kennen wir aus der Tiefkühltruhe und vom Massenbuffet, unser gebratener Reis kam - anders als angegeben - nicht mit Cashewkernen. Auch das Gemüse ist sichtlich nur aus der TK. Lieblose Zubereitung und alles muss ganz schnell gehen. Schade, dass 1 Punkt hier der niedrigste Wert ist.

The best Thai food I've had in a long time, equaling and even surpassing some places in Thailand! We had a red curry, beef pad Thai, and veggie noodles; everything was delicious. I'll be back!!!

This is my favorite spot when it comes to Thai food in Amsterdam. Absolutely fantastic experience! It's usually very crowded so it's normal to eat close by strangers. Food quality is excellent and prices are very honest for quantity too. This is a place for locals, don't miss it if you are around!

Delicious and inexpensive food. The most expensive dish costs 20.50 euros. I had the fatta this time. Strong flavors. Eating out depends on who is walking around the street right away, all sorts of homeless people who bother me a bit when I was just eating. The previous time was more pleasant. Overall, a well-known place that is quality and gives value for money.

We ate here a few times but won’t come back because we got food poisoning. The food tastes alright but they seem pretty loose with hygiene and the crammed tiny kitchen is one sneeze away from any passerby.

Come here often and with pleasure! Always order the red curry with tofu. Always 5 stars!

Had rotten tofu and uncooked rice, when I asked for new I got the same uncooked rice and moldy tofu again. Staff said that's how it's supposed to be I don't know where they eat rotten tofu and uncooked rice but not in the places I go anyway

Today I went to Thai Snackbar Bird for the first time in ten years. As soon as I stepped inside, it was as if no time had passed. Still that organized chaos, the familiar faces behind the counter, and my favorite spot by the window with a view of the Zeedijk. We started with pangsit and fish cakes – exactly as I remembered them: crispy, tasty, fresh. Then the Kou Pad Nua. That smell, that bite, that spiciness… it took me back to that time in one bite. Nothing has changed, and that is perhaps the best part. No frills, no innovation – just honest Thai flavors, served as always. Sometimes you don't need more than that.

Small, loud, and cramped! But perfect food at fair prices. Very friendly staff. The place is absolutely authentic. An absolute recommendation!

When I see a family-run compact restaurant sells one cuisine with locals in the queue, I know it’s right spot to go. I have strong Asian stomach and it intensifies when I have a long day. The only shame was we did not get to the indoor or outdoor street-facing seats. The noodle soup broth was clear, herb-heavy and filled with umami. I mean, I don’t eat much Western food, but when I’m out and about all day, I want to eat some Asian food to fill my stomach🤤 I happen to live next to Chinatown (and the red-light district), hahaha, there are many highly rated Asian restaurants! This family-run Thai restaurant has many locals taking out, and I also saw regular customers speaking Thai. The family members each do their own thing, and the intuition is that it’s authentic. The best meal I had on my entire trip to Europe. Quality, flavor, and price! The place was packed, but the staff still took the time to answer questions and serve us with the best attitude and patience.

This place is a hole in the wall that does brisk business even on a rainy night like tonight. I was lucky enough to get a seat. Food was authentic and plentiful. Lots of rice and even more of the main. I finished the rice and a third of the main remained. I had the chicken pad kra pao. Most people ordered their meals as takeaways. More importantly, they only accept cash as payment.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but this place seriously deserves one. This might be the best Thai food I’ve ever had—no joke. Honestly, it’s even better than what I’ve had in Thailand, and I’m really into Thai food. I care a lot about flavor, and this place slaps hard! We got the chicken Panang, prawn shoo shee, and chicken fried rice. Everything was insanely good. The flavors just hit different. The spot is super small—we sat outside by the street—but it was totally worth it. Also, heads up: it’s right across from Thaise Restaurant, but they’re not related. This place is where it’s at.

Dont expect a good service and a nice place where to sit and take your time but if you love thaï food you wont never end up disappointed!! The pad thai is amazing and even if the prices went really high these last years it's still worth the money

Was able to find a seat inside, cozy environment. Cannot seat more than 8 people inside comfortably. They have large food portions, but some of our appetizers seemed like they came out of a box/mass manufactured. Would still go back or order take-away!

Y teníamos que estar en una línea afuera en diez minutos. Simplemente se «mueve» y «vamos» a como niños de tres años. Me encantó la comida, pero el espacio y el servicio era malo. O en realidad era sólo esa camarera. Los otros estaban bien.

Service was speedy and food came out quick. Ordered beef as protein for both dishes but found the beef to be a bit tough. Could be more tender. Otherwise, food tastes decent and portions are okay for the price.

Pasé a almorzar tarde (15 - 1600 ) , el problema comenzó cuando fui a pagar. No aceptarán ninguna tarjeta de débito / crédito estadounidense ni dólares. Obligarte a ir a un cajero automático local para sacar el dinero a comisiones caras. Se cebarán con los estadounidenses y dirán que tienen pequeños letreros en la parte delantera, pero están fuera de la vista, y la gente te impide verlos. Al final del día, esto agrega 12 dólares extra a la comida tailandesa mediocre. El tipo que trabaja te da una actitud condescendiente por la experiencia también. La comida es promedio en el mejor de los casos. Solo quería probar este lugar, no vale la pena la molestia, me quedaré en mi lugar normal.

Authentic Thai food outside the country, we were traveling for the first time in the city and passing in front of the place I saw 2 people eating on its small terrace, immediately the look and smell of the food transported me to my last visit to Thailand and the rest of the trip we only wanted to eat there. Excellent food, large portions, very fast service, good price. If I lived in the city I would eat there every day.

I always get Thai food everywhere and nowhere, this time at Bird, waited 20 minutes or so for takeaway, no problem, but I really don't think it was a success. I don't hate it, but I'm not a fan of it either. The portion is quite large, so that's nice. The taste itself is also nice, but I didn't think it was great or anything, just normal, But I also had a hair because of my curry, I never understood that when people had that they thought it was such a big deal, until I now had it myself, honestly it immediately feels really dirty to eat. I wasn't crazy about the quality of the chicken either, it was a lot of messy pieces, which I don't like and even a piece with a piece of muscle on it, I find that unappetizing. Despite the other very positive reviews, I won't be back, but maybe I was just unlucky with my portion, who knows.

Today was the third time in a row that things went wrong with takeaway food. We ordered Two Chicken with Cashew Nuts with Fried Rice instead of plain white rice. We should have gotten two plastic containers with Chicken with Cashew Nuts and two containers with Fried Rice, four in total. What we got was four containers: one container with Chicken with Cashew Nuts, one container with plain Rice and two containers with Fried Rice (without meat). So, just one star for the meal that is by far not a meal for two (a bit dry). This was the last time we went there.

Very disappointing, years ago it was one of my favorite restaurants. Now the quality is really bad. It seems like you are collecting old rice from leftovers in a container. Way too expensive and not tasty at all. Very unfortunate

This place offers great food and quick service. I have been on a hunt for the best red curry in the city and so far this is the spot to go to. Worth it- even if they did raise their prices recently.

My favorite Thai spot in Amsterdam! If I’m ever in city center, this is my go-to place for a delicious meal. It’s very small, around 12 seats or less, and there’s usually a wait. Well worth it though ! I always get the chicken ka prau. It’s served with a nice dish of rice, and it comes piping hot in these deep bowls. It’s so delicious, I scoop it with my spoon and drink up the sauce at the end. Definitely would recommend ! So it used to be the same owners as Bird Thai, but they’ve since separated. Honestly I prefer this over bird Thai any day. There’s something about smelling the flavors of the Thai kitchen, and hearing the sizzles of the wok that feels so authentic.

This small restaurant has a unique charm. The atmosphere is intimate and cozy, making it a perfect place to enjoy a delicious meal. The staff is not only friendly and warm, but also remarkably agile, especially with the limited space in which they work. The food is, as always, of excellent quality and tastes delicious. I did notice that the portions have gotten a bit smaller, but that seems to be the case everywhere these days.

My go to Thai spot anytime I’m in Amsterdam! The long line is worth it. This is coming from a foodie global nomad who flies 5-7x a week and eats out everyday , usually at a new place in a different city. A little bit about me . Been to Thailand a little over a dozen times and this spot is definitely authentic! Great portion sizes too! Super friendly staff

This quaint little hole in the wall is perfect for a quick meal. The menu is quite extensive and clearly indicates the heat level of the different soups. The restaurant itself is very small and had one of three tables being used by the staff as an extension to the kitchen. Everything is crammed into this tiny little space which makes for a unique experience. Overall a great place to stop for something quick to eat and just try your luck for a space as there are very few tables inside.

La peor experiencia de Amsterdam. Éramos 3 madres y 5 preadolescentes y niños. El lugar estaba muy sucio, había una gran falta de higiene... Nos dejaron comer con basura en la mesa porque no estaban dispuestos a quitárnosla. Fueron malos tanto con los niños como con las mamás: se burlaron de nuestro acento italiano en todo momento de nuestro hablar, el jefe nos dijo “eres italiano, conozco tu estilo, no quieres pagar” Todos estábamos sorprendidos por la grosería.

Ooh my my my!During the lockdown my friend introduced me to Thai food from this "snack bar". Few Thai restaurants or snack bars can match this. He was already addicted, but now we are both addicted. The herbs/spices, everything is very well coordinated and also the speed of cooking. In addition, the price is very reasonable for the delicious food that you are served. The kitchen has been so small/tight for years and yet the tastiest dishes come out of it. I don't imitate them. 5 deserved big stars! Please stay like this!
