Thaise Snackbar Bird in Burgwallen-Oude Zijde

A genuine favorite of mine, my mom and I first went and ordered pad thai, pad kra pao, and tom kha gai, and everything was really, really good. I liked it enough that I went back again last July with my dad and sister when they were visiting me, and it held up just as well the second time. Important practical note: they only accept cash, so come prepared. For reference, our full order for the table came to around fifty euros. The space itself is quite small, so it's not the most comfortable if you want room to move freely, expect to be seated close enough that your back is near the other tables. That said, watching the auntie cook is a really nice touch, adds to the charm of the place. One more tip: locals eat here too, so I'd recommend going before rush hour if you want to avoid a wait or a packed room. Best for anyone wanting genuinely good, authentic Thai food in a small, local, no-frills setting, just don't expect spacious seating, and bring cash.

Very tasty. Highly recommended. We ordered pad Thai and green curry. The portion is very big, but they’ll let you pack it up if you could not finish it. If you happened to have opportunity seating outside, just do it. Really feels good eating Thai food there.

Small restaurant, the food is delicious, but a bit expensive.

Small but welcoming place. The language barrier isn't a problem because they take the time to understand what you want. I had a lot of leftovers and was able to take them away. Don't let the slightly dated kitchen put you off, because I can assure you the food is very fresh.

Delicious, and ready to take away or eat on the spot in just a moment. There really is something suitable and healthy for everyone to order: fish, meat, vegetables, etcetera. If I'm in the area again, I'll stop by for lunch.

What a wonderful experience this was on the Zeedijk. We really enjoyed the food at this restaurant immensely. Everything was fresh and prepared with great flavor. The papaya salad, in particular, was a real highlight, with those crunchy beans and fresh peanuts that were perfectly balanced. The atmosphere is relaxed and the food arrived quickly. We will definitely be back soon for the rest of the menu. Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic flavors.

Very good taste, Very nice selection . Space is a bit limited and there is no toilet in the premises but the food is really worthwhile.

Overpriced tourist trap. i ordered a mix plate of prawns, chicken, and beef only to get a plate full of chicken... when i finally noticed they topped up the plate with the missing beef and prawns but the chicken ratio was still 4:1:1.... SCAM!

Great tasting Thai food. Only issue is that they don't accept debit or credit card outside Europe. That's the reason for lower score in service. Staff was good.

A few years ago, I regularly ordered dishes here. It was my favorite little eatery in Amsterdam. Last week, after a very long time, I ate here in person again. You still get generous portions. The food was good, but not as tasty as it used to be. Less authentic flavor than before and less variety of vegetables in the dishes, especially a whole lot of bamboo. The prices are higher than a few years ago, but of course, there is inflation.

Fantastic food. It was just great wholesome and hearty food that hit all the Thailand notes of traditional flavours. We ordered the kai pad krapau with chicken and the red chicken curry with cashews and broccoli. These dishes were superb. They tasted fantastic and as we've traveled to Thailand before and eaten at lots of Thai restaurants, this is definitely a top contender. The flavours, the colours and heat - just amazing. The cool thing, you get rice included and they just give you plates of it when they see it running low - such a cool concept. The portions were are massive. Easily share between 3 people. There was a queue here too as the place is so small - probably seats 13 inside and a couple outside. Service was also on point. Given the top recommendations and told to go with the classics, which they specialise in. Even told, if we don't like it, it's in the house. Confidence, at its best. Definitely worth a visit and enjoy.

Pretty good! Pad Thai chicken was flavourful, heavy with tamarind flavour. A big portion too. Only European debit cards are accepted - no MasterCard or Visa. You'll probably need some cash if visiting as a tourist! There's some limited seating available. Maybe 3 people could sit together at an absolute maximum - better for 1-2.

Thai Bird Snackbar never disappoints -using high-quality ingredients they are a delight that we look forward to during each visit to A’dam. I highly recommend prawn red curry, which comes with a side of white rice. Also, one of the favorites is chicken noodle soup. Prepare your tastebuds for a treat.

The high rating is somewhat incomprehensible. The seating inside is very cramped, and the service is only minimally friendly. The food: more quantity than quality. The Pad Thai, while containing plenty of meat, was quite bland and tasteless. Thai food should taste different.

Extremely yummy. I can only recommend it. Nothing for bigger groups because this place is tiny. You will probably have to wait in line for a little while, but it is totally worth it. I came here on a suggestion by someone who has been here about ten times before and I came to visit twice in only a few days.

We found this restaurant to be overrated. The place is not spacious and there was barely any space to sit. The staff wasn't very attentive and distracted with multiple things happening around despite there were many of them. I didn’t appreciate being nudged by the staff just to take the food from his hands due to lack of space. The food wasn't particularly tasty and while the tom yum soup was OK the rest of the dishes were disappointing. The ribs were extra dry and not the freshest. The papaya salad was spicy as hell and couldn't eat much of it. The cleanliness of the restaurant was below our expectations and found the tables and floor sticky and dirty. The food was served on plastic plates which were all still wet once served. I doubt they were properly cleaned. The way to the toilet wasn't cleaner either and to get there you need to request it for them to open the door for you - I'll leave this without further comment. Overall, we will not come back and we believe the place requires a proper day off for proper cleaning activities.

Chinese restaurant right in the city center. The atmosphere and ambiance are beautiful and reminiscent of their culture. The food is excellent and the staff is really friendly! When they found out it was my birthday, they brought a cake with a candle to the table and encouraged the entire room to sing the song! They were so sweet! 🫶🏻 Thank you!

The food tasted good. However, a few hours later I developed stomach pain, which turned into severe cramps during the night. I also had to go to the bathroom very frequently. Overall, this was unfortunately not a good experience for me.

The food was very good, but that evening and the following day, my boyfriend and I suffered from stomach cramps and various unpleasant symptoms of food poisoning. After we ordered on-site and were charged more than the prices listed on the map and the menu (and my boyfriend pointed this out to the staff), I suspect they were no longer so well-disposed towards us.

A curious place, but the food is excellent. I recommend not letting first impressions fool you because the food is truly worth it. With a bit of luck, you might even get to eat next to the chef ;)

Tried it again after years; the quality is nowhere near what it used to be. A dry, unimaginative meal for at least 20 euros, completely out of proportion to the quality. For me, this is the last time.

Food were great. We ordered pad thai prawn, beef khra pao, tom yum soup, and chicken green curry. Everything came altogether at the same time with steaming rice. The only drawback is the place is so small and it’s difficult to walk between table.

Absolutely incredible spot in busy Amsterdam, the place is tiny and very busy, but it's so so worth it. The portions are generous, the prices are good, the service is quick and the flavours!!! Out of this world! I'm always on the hunt for a good Tom Kha Kai soup and this one was 10/10!

Great food, very popular place amongst locals and tourists alike. Can be difficult to navigate when the place is packed, which is almost always. Staff have always been friendly and helpful to me.

It was very crowded, because the service was excellent. If you eat there, you'll have to squeeze in, but it's worth it.

An older Asian grandma cooking in the kitchen yelling lovingly at everyone? 5 stars to just watch her cook but yes the food is also delicious. Been in Europe for almost 2 weeks and really needed to get my rice and noodle fix. This place was fast and the portions are big. Came back for takeout the next night for pad thai but their tom kha is on the sweeter end. I like mine a little bit more sour. Other than that though, any Asian lady that reminds me of my grandma is a hero in my book.

the food was delicious, I ordered a bird speciality ( red curry with different meat, and Shrimp combined. also the food was prepared quickly, in a small kitchen. what takes a lot of skill, and experience to do.

Could not get I'm but I can tell by the food coming out and the smell it is amazing. Lots of heads nodding, smiles and mmmm's going on as we waited for 15 minutes then moved on.

It's a very small place, you can barely turn around. But that's what makes it so special. I've been a few times now and every time I say: this time I'm going to try something different. But still, I order the Massaman curry every single time. It is so good. It's incredible how much flavor they manage to put in it.

The best food I've had this year. The meat is tender, everything is well-seasoned, and the mini spring rolls are highly recommended. The service is very friendly; they recommended a chicken dish that was delicious. The atmosphere is also great, and we had some nice conversations with strangers. I have been going to this place For just over 25 years on some occasions i have been twice in one day, after my visit last night I will never return for the following reasons. My wife and myself went to the restaurant for some evening food. The gentleman serving offers a table to be sat with two complete strangers which we did not prefer to do so we politely said we would sit outside And then he told us we don’t bring menus outside anymore, purely disgusting behaviour and attitude to have with somebody Who has been a persistent customer of those years.

Come here already many many years. But it got so expensive now. More then €20 for a curry, it always was around €12 :(

Worst experience. The waiters can be more attentive. This time, people at the next table offered some "chili" on the table, said it was really good from here, and offered us to try it. No waiters said anything or gave any alert about the chili though AWARE about it - after I swallowed a small piece I was told it was the world's hottest chili. OK to start off - why is that even in a restaurant without any labeled warning?? It’s really painful to eat especially if you’re totally UNPREPARED AND UNAWARE of the spiciness. I came here to have a great meal not a blind challenge?? After that we knew it was a prank. I get that the customers who offered it should be more responsible, but the waiter could be more attentive in my own opinion. Not seeing me & friend struggling and still tried to make jokes. It was not that fun. I threw up at last had to take meds because my stomach burns.

I'm writing to share my friend's alarming experience. During her visit, another table deliberately misled her into eating an extremely dangerous chili under the false pretense that it was "tasty." Shockingly, the restaurant staff were complicit; they were aware of the chili's true nature and laughed along. This is an incredibly irresponsible practice that could cause serious harm. They felt compelled to warn other diners to prevent them from falling victim to the same prank. This is not a joke; it's a serious safety issue.

喃吃的饭 报吃 yue 🤙 我不翩骅人! 千万补药来! This place serves the most white-washed Thai food I’ve ever met. Absolutely not Southeast Asian approved. Solid 0 out of 10. And the service? Wow. The servers were too busy side-eyeing and making fun of customers to actually do their jobs. Throwing pranks on customers as well 🥰 If you enjoy bland food with a side of judgment, this is the spot 🙏

Reckless and unprofessional.Do not recommend. The staff irresponsibly allowed my friend to be tricked into eating a Carolina Reaper pepper without any warning. To make it worse, they laughed at them while they were in clear distress and never apologized. This led to severe burning pain and vomiting hours later. Avoid this place for your own healthy.

The difference between a Thai and a Chinese, you ask? Well, that's not difficult, because it's all about "meat." Without meat, there's no Chinese. And that immediately says it all about this restaurant: lots of vegetables, noodles, and broth, just the way I like it. Meat is passé; only unimaginative, gray-haired people still eat it; primitiveness always compels, after all. Can you transcend that? Then this is a "quick, healthy meal" paradise. The fact that many dishes are far too spicy for a Dutch person like me is something you can fix; you just ask for nice, mild food. Done. Oh, and look at the man behind the window in the photo, right next to the entrance, he's eating his soup with a fork and can't get enough of it... "Drink it," I mean. ;)

Bird’s SNACKBAR isn’t very nice to sit at but the food is so divine I don’t care for even a moment. Love that they have the same name as the restaurant but no affiliation whatsoever. Gives it this intriguing mystery.

Red chicken curry and chicken phaneang were heavenly! One of the best Thai dishes I've ever had. Super, super delicious. The snack bar is incredibly small and the seating is cramped, but it's 100% worth it! Highly recommended!

The food here is very nice for what I had, it is very small and cramped inside, has some outside seating but always has a queue (so the rest of the menu must be good). Staff are friendly and efficient in such a small space, I have never eaten inside due to the queue. It would be nice to see this venue expand

A very authentic little Thai snack bar. The food was excellent. Our request for more cashews was immediately fulfilled, and a large bowl was brought out extra. The food is prepared with absolute freshness. While you're sitting at one of the tables, cauliflower is being cut next to you, and a large bucket of peanuts is open underneath the table. Very rustic and reminiscent of Bangkok food stalls :-) We would eat there again anytime.

We went here for dinner on the recommendation of friends who live in Amsterdam. They're very frequent diners themselves. And we weren't disappointed! The seating isn't comfortable, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. You really feel like you're visiting a Thai family. One of the few tables was used by the staff to chop vegetables, and another was for self-service. What an experience, such a wonderfully casual atmosphere. The food was served quickly and was wonderfully fresh and flavorful. Delicious chili oil and other spices were on the table to further enhance the dishes. Delicious!

Snack bar/ takeaway, very small inside with seating for about 10 people ( at a push) but the food is tasty and fresh and the portions are generous. Recommended. 👌👍
