I have been going to this place For just over 25 years on some occasions i have been twice in one day, after my visit last night I will never return for the following reasons. My wife and myself went to the restaurant for some evening food. The gentleman serving offers a table to be sat with two complete strangers which we did not prefer to do so we politely said we would sit outside And then he told us we don’t bring menus outside anymore, purely disgusting behaviour and attitude to have with somebody Who has been a persistent customer of those years.

Come here already many many years. But it got so expensive now. More then €20 for a curry, it always was around €12 :(

A small restaurant where you can enjoy delicious Asian food. It's quite affordable considering the prices in the area. The portions are very generous, so keep that in mind before ordering. Excellent value for money.

For street food lovers, I highly recommend it.

Worst experience. The waiters can be more attentive. This time, people at the next table offered some "chili" on the table, said it was really good from here, and offered us to try it. No waiters said anything or gave any alert about the chili though AWARE about it - after I swallowed a small piece I was told it was the world's hottest chili. OK to start off - why is that even in a restaurant without any labeled warning?? It’s really painful to eat especially if you’re totally UNPREPARED AND UNAWARE of the spiciness. I came here to have a great meal not a blind challenge?? After that we knew it was a prank. I get that the customers who offered it should be more responsible, but the waiter could be more attentive in my own opinion. Not seeing me & friend struggling and still tried to make jokes. It was not that fun. I threw up at last had to take meds because my stomach burns.

The servers were too busy side-eyeing and making fun of customers to actually do their jobs. Throwing pranks on customers as well 🥰 If you enjoy bland food with a side of judgment, this is the spot 🙏

Reckless and unprofessional.Do not recommend. The staff irresponsibly allowed my friend to be tricked into eating a Carolina Reaper pepper without any warning. To make it worse, they laughed at them while they were in clear distress and never apologized. This led to severe burning pain and vomiting hours later. Avoid this place for your own healthy.

I'm writing to share my friend's alarming experience. During her visit, another table deliberately misled her into eating an extremely dangerous chili under the false pretense that it was "tasty." Shockingly, the restaurant staff were complicit; they were aware of the chili's true nature and laughed along. This is an incredibly irresponsible practice that could cause serious harm. They felt compelled to warn other diners to prevent them from falling victim to the same prank. This is not a joke; it's a serious safety issue.

The difference between a Thai and a Chinese, you ask? Well, that's not difficult, because it's all about "meat." Without meat, there's no Chinese. And that immediately says it all about this restaurant: lots of vegetables, noodles, and broth, just the way I like it. Meat is passé; only unimaginative, gray-haired people still eat it; primitiveness always compels, after all. Can you transcend that? Then this is a "quick, healthy meal" paradise. The fact that many dishes are far too spicy for a Dutch person like me is something you can fix; you just ask for nice, mild food. Done. Oh, and look at the man behind the window in the photo, right next to the entrance, he's eating his soup with a fork and can't get enough of it... "Drink it," I mean. ;)

Bird’s SNACKBAR isn’t very nice to sit at but the food is so divine I don’t care for even a moment. Love that they have the same name as the restaurant but no affiliation whatsoever. Gives it this intriguing mystery.

Red chicken curry and chicken phaneang were heavenly! One of the best Thai dishes I've ever had. Super, super delicious. The snack bar is incredibly small and the seating is cramped, but it's 100% worth it! Highly recommended!

The food here is very nice for what I had, it is very small and cramped inside, has some outside seating but always has a queue (so the rest of the menu must be good). Staff are friendly and efficient in such a small space, I have never eaten inside due to the queue. It would be nice to see this venue expand

Great food and chill atmosphere

A very authentic little Thai snack bar. The food was excellent. Our request for more cashews was immediately fulfilled, and a large bowl was brought out extra. The food is prepared with absolute freshness. While you're sitting at one of the tables, cauliflower is being cut next to you, and a large bucket of peanuts is open underneath the table. Very rustic and reminiscent of Bangkok food stalls :-) We would eat there again anytime.

We went here for dinner on the recommendation of friends who live in Amsterdam. They're very frequent diners themselves. And we weren't disappointed! The seating isn't comfortable, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. You really feel like you're visiting a Thai family. One of the few tables was used by the staff to chop vegetables, and another was for self-service. What an experience, such a wonderfully casual atmosphere. The food was served quickly and was wonderfully fresh and flavorful. Delicious chili oil and other spices were on the table to further enhance the dishes. Delicious!

The Thai street food tastes just like eating in Thailand. The chef and service staff are Thai. I recommend the stir-fried beef with basil. The basil flavor is hot and spicy.I love it ❤️😊.I will definitely go back.

Highly recommended. It's always busy here, and not just because the tourists come! You don't go here for polite service. It's called a "snack bar" for a reason, meaning it's for a quick bite. However, the quality far surpasses the average snack bar. Truly one of my favorite spots in the city! Despite having the same name as the restaurant across the street, they've had a different owner and chef for quite some time now. You can taste it... for quality, this is the snack bar you go to!

Incredible. I think it's the best Thai food I've ever had. Anything you order is delicious. The place is small, and you may have to share a table with someone, but it was never uncomfortable. I'm only posting a photo of the soup because everything looked so good that I forgot to make more before eating. The service was fast and friendly.

Been here a few times already, its a very very small thai restaurant/snackbar. I think inside only 10 people fit with seating and with good weather maybe another 8-10 outside on their sidewalk seating. The part where they cook is open so you can see how they cook, and I can tell... its pretty much in thai style, which is crazy to see. The menu has surprisingly a lot of options, from beef, pig, chicken and vegetarian options, spicy and not spicy. So far everything we ate was prepared in a very acceptable waiting time and was very very tasty! I think they are here at least 30 years already and they do show this in their food, its good.. healthy and tasty. Compared to other restaurants, the portions are very very good, more then anywhere else (when you go to Thailand, you would also get big portions of food, same here, be it a bit smaller) Be sure to pick the correct place to eat, there are 2 bird restaurants, and only the very very small one with the yellow signs is the correct one. The other bird on the other side of the street has been sold and has nothing to do anymore with this small thai restaurant.

You need to queue during meal time, but it's worth it! The food is authentic and delicious, the portions are generous and very delicious, and the price is affordable. I recommend it!

I had dinner here and it was a mixed experience. I ordered the Tom Yam Koeng and the Kou Pad "BIRD" Luom Mid. The Kou Pad was excellent - a flavorful and well-executed dish that we really enjoyed. However, the Tom Yam Koeng was a bit of a letdown. It didn't taste like the traditional Tom Yam I had in Thailand, perhaps it's a Dutch adaptation of the dish. ​The restaurant itself is very small, and it was quite hot inside, which made the dining experience a bit uncomfortable. There were a few benches outside, which would be a better option on a nice day. ​Overall, if you're looking for a quick and tasty Thai meal, this is a decent option, but don't expect a completely authentic Thai taste, especially with their Tom Yam.

To start, we were in the queue, and when we were almost about to be served, one of the staff came over and asked if we were getting take-away. We said no, and they started laughing right in our faces. The service is terrible, absolutely awful. The people working there couldn’t care less about the customers. When the food arrives, it’s literally thrown onto the table in front of you. I ordered a Pad Thai, it wasn’t the worst I’ve had, but it definitely wasn’t the best either. In terms of flavor, only the noodles had any taste; if you ate the vegetables on their own, they were completely bland, zero flavor at all. I was really excited to try this restaurant’s food, but it turned out to be nothing but a disappointment, especially because of the attitude of the staff. Service quality: -10. Do I recommend this SNACKBAR??? HELL NOOOO

Delicious curry, excellent quality!! We haven't had one this good since being in Thailand! You have to arrive early to get a table, as it's small and they don't accept reservations. The downside was the service, specifically the waiter in charge, who spoke to us in a dismissive and rude manner for no reason. If it weren't for him, it would have been a 10/10 experience!

The food was great when grandma is in the kitchen but I reordered a chicken satay and the second time it tasted nothing like the first & that’s because grandma was taking a lunch break right next to my table. The food was very good. This was my third trip to Amsterdam, and my third time there. The restaurant is right across the street, as this one only has a few tables. The pad thai and masaman are incredible.

There are several waiters and they don't pay attention to the customers. I don't recommend it, it was just horrible, they could see that my friend was having lunch but at no time did they come to ask me and the other customers were served as they went along. In addition they are not accommodating in the food we asked for a dish without meat and the dish of my friend arrived with sickening pieces of meat . 🤮 Besides I never got my ordered dish.

This little gem is a winner when it comes to decent food. The food was pretty decent and the price was even better for somewhere in central Amsterdam. Just a short walk from the bulldog coffee shop is is on a busy walking route. We went when it was as 29c outside, there was 2 of us and they sat us next to another couple in what can be described as the worlds smallest restaurant It was a sweat box. Managing to then get a space on the bench outside and it so much better. Had the Tom Yum and it was pretty decent. Not the best I’ve had but very close Also we had the Massaman curry and it was really good. We shared on dish between 2 and it was just enough Would go back there. Staff were good. Only one nice guy the folk in the kitchen were having a bad day and were a bit rude.

Leider eine herbe Enttäuschung. Die Frühöingsrollen kennen wir aus der Tiefkühltruhe und vom Massenbuffet, unser gebratener Reis kam - anders als angegeben - nicht mit Cashewkernen. Auch das Gemüse ist sichtlich nur aus der TK. Lieblose Zubereitung und alles muss ganz schnell gehen. Schade, dass 1 Punkt hier der niedrigste Wert ist.

This is my favorite spot when it comes to Thai food in Amsterdam. Absolutely fantastic experience! It's usually very crowded so it's normal to eat close by strangers. Food quality is excellent and prices are very honest for quantity too. This is a place for locals, don't miss it if you are around!

Delicious and inexpensive food. The most expensive dish costs 20.50 euros. I had the fatta this time. Strong flavors. Eating out depends on who is walking around the street right away, all sorts of homeless people who bother me a bit when I was just eating. The previous time was more pleasant. Overall, a well-known place that is quality and gives value for money.

Had rotten tofu and uncooked rice, when I asked for new I got the same uncooked rice and moldy tofu again. Staff said that's how it's supposed to be I don't know where they eat rotten tofu and uncooked rice but not in the places I go anyway

Today I went to Thai Snackbar Bird for the first time in ten years. As soon as I stepped inside, it was as if no time had passed. Still that organized chaos, the familiar faces behind the counter, and my favorite spot by the window with a view of the Zeedijk. We started with pangsit and fish cakes – exactly as I remembered them: crispy, tasty, fresh. Then the Kou Pad Nua. That smell, that bite, that spiciness… it took me back to that time in one bite. Nothing has changed, and that is perhaps the best part. No frills, no innovation – just honest Thai flavors, served as always. Sometimes you don't need more than that.

Small, loud, and cramped! But perfect food at fair prices. Very friendly staff. The place is absolutely authentic. An absolute recommendation!

When I see a family-run compact restaurant sells one cuisine with locals in the queue, I know it’s right spot to go. I have strong Asian stomach and it intensifies when I have a long day. The only shame was we did not get to the indoor or outdoor street-facing seats. The noodle soup broth was clear, herb-heavy and filled with umami. I mean, I don’t eat much Western food, but when I’m out and about all day, I want to eat some Asian food to fill my stomach🤤 I happen to live next to Chinatown (and the red-light district), hahaha, there are many highly rated Asian restaurants! This family-run Thai restaurant has many locals taking out, and I also saw regular customers speaking Thai. The family members each do their own thing, and the intuition is that it’s authentic. The best meal I had on my entire trip to Europe. Quality, flavor, and price! The place was packed, but the staff still took the time to answer questions and serve us with the best attitude and patience.

This place is a hole in the wall that does brisk business even on a rainy night like tonight. I was lucky enough to get a seat. Food was authentic and plentiful. Lots of rice and even more of the main. I finished the rice and a third of the main remained. I had the chicken pad kra pao. Most people ordered their meals as takeaways. More importantly, they only accept cash as payment.

Was able to find a seat inside, cozy environment. Cannot seat more than 8 people inside comfortably. They have large food portions, but some of our appetizers seemed like they came out of a box/mass manufactured. Would still go back or order take-away!

Este restaurante tenía buena comida y la comida llegó en diez minutos. Pero la razón por la que no le di el bote lleno fue por el espacio. Era tan pequeño y lleno de gente. Y teníamos que estar en una línea afuera en diez minutos. Y lo entiendo, como si estuviera lleno así que tuvimos que esperar pero la camarera, que creo que era la dueña, estaba tan enfadada y estresada. Simplemente se «mueve» y «vamos» a como niños de tres años. Me encantó la comida, pero el espacio y el servicio era malo. O en realidad era sólo esa camarera. Los otros estaban bien.

Service was speedy and food came out quick. Ordered beef as protein for both dishes but found the beef to be a bit tough. Could be more tender. Otherwise, food tastes decent and portions are okay for the price.
