this café is nice for studying and it’s cozy. However, the other time i ordered a smoothie that I paid 7.50€ or so, and ended up realizing the smoothie was the one from Albert Heijn (the supermarket). In albert heijn you pay a smoothie 2.50€. So it did feel like a scam

You're not allowed to play games here, even if you just order drinks. Pretty lame, if you ask me.

They charge €15 on top of your orders if you want to play games, work, etc.

Best place for working with your laptop

Don't go here anymore for board/cardgames. As of November 2025 they have a new manager that demands a 15 euro flat fee per person for 3 hours if you want to sit here. He gave me a bizarre and uncomfortable talk about how they were losing money because some patrons stayed late/ would not order enough. Our group would always make sure to order a few drinks and order dinner/lunch when it was appropriate though, so it just feels like everyone is punished for the cafe not having a good policy for the few that did not behave. It's unfortunate as they had a good thing going in terms of people coming to play games.

Very unreliable place. We made a reservation for a table, as we do every week, which they confirmed. Then days later, they changed the conditions of the reservation, and told us to pay €15 per person, just for the reservation. Which of course, we did not do. Safe to say, we won't be coming back here.

I used to play BOTC here all the time. They suddenly started charging €15 per person after we made a reservation. It's completely ridiculous.

Always came to this place to play games with my friends. Then they suddenly started asking 15 euro's per person for just playing there. That's excluding all the drinks and food we bought.

We planned on coming to Utrecht for a quick lunch (2 babies, 1 child and 3 grownups) followed up by enjoying the city itself for our vacation. Sadly we got stuck at this restaurant waiting for 1,5 hours for our cold and boring food. I am so disappointed. Not only did it take way too long to get the food we ordered (4 dishes) but we did not get informed that it would take such a long time until 45 min later of waiting time. When we asked why it took such a long time (since it wasn't busy) they excused it with a "it's only 1 person in the kitchen and it's very busy". It was not a busy day. Roughly 12 table was occupied and multiple had not ordered lunch but just a coffee. After 1 hour waiting the grown ups got their food and after 30 more minutes our child got her cheeseburger (from kids meny) which was dry and boring. Lucky us our child could eat her fathers food and he took hers. To let a child that is 2 years old wait for 1,5 hours and give her food last priorety is far from okey. Besides that they made 1 plate kroketten and had it out on the heating for roughly 10 min before it got served (cold). While it stood there other tables got served that had come after us. Only plus sides is that they had a corner for children to play at and the fact that the concept of the restaurant is good. The waiter was also kind. However, terrible execusion and the fact that we did not get informed in time that it would take such a long time to get served is just terrible. We ended up having to go straight "home" after this visit since the children was way to tired to enjoy the city. I was very disappointed and really wished we had gone somewhere else instead.

We (three adults, two babies, and a toddler) had lunch here on a Wednesday afternoon. The staff was very friendly (it must be said), but the food took an incredibly long time. We ordered four dishes (including one child's burger) and had to wait over an hour and a half for them. The food also arrived one at a time instead of all at once, meaning some dishes were already cold before the rest were served. The reason? There was "only one chef" and "it was busy." Firstly, I saw at least three people working in the kitchen, and secondly, there were only 12 tables occupied, half of whom were sitting at their laptops drinking tea. It was embarrassing that it had to take so long, especially for the little one who ended up with a cold and tasteless burger. If they had told us beforehand that it might take a bit longer, we could have decided for ourselves whether to stay or not. Instead, we had to chase it up ourselves, only to finally get that excuse. Maybe we came on the wrong day (I see a lot of good reviews here), but we certainly won't be back. Waiting over an hour and a half for a cold croquette sandwich is simply unacceptable.

The atmosphere is good, there are fun games, and it's nice to sit together. But the service is incredibly slow; there were 10 of us, and the drinks took at least half an hour (mostly soft drinks!). The checkout process was also very slow and chaotic. I was here last time, and everything went much more smoothly, so maybe I was just having a bad day.

We came here because of the good star review, the delicious-looking pictures, and the actually quite nice ambiance, and were very disappointed. Despite it being moderately busy, there was no service at all, as one young lady seemed to be in charge of the entire place. So after 10 minutes, I simply went to the counter, where I had to wait several more minutes before I was even noticed or spoken to. At that point, I was actually about to leave, but then I thought I'd give the place another chance. The food was ready quickly, but then I saw it sitting at the hatch for over 5 minutes, where the lady completely ignored it. If I'd known it was mine, I would have just gotten it myself. We had the quesadilla, the toasty, and the vegetarian bitterballen. The latter was the only thing that was at least lukewarm when it was brought to our table; the rest was cold. The food was poorly presented, and I still don't know what that weird stuff next to the toast was. It tasted of nothing and was soaked with grease. Maybe fried pitta bread? I have no idea. The next annoyance was the toast I ordered with jalapeños and onions, which came with peppers and onions. I noticed this too late, otherwise I would have said something right away. This really ruined our entire stay in Utrecht, very disappointing!

I've been coming to the Stayokay on Neude since it opened. The fact that The 5th moved to the ground floor and is now connected to the square is a positive change. The food is always beautifully presented and, above all, delicious, and the portions are more than generous. Friendly staff from all over the world. On (Friday) evenings, they regularly organize a (board) game night, and even strangers are more than welcome.

Lots of (vegan) food options and it's good, I especially like the vegan kapsalon and the Vietnamese salad. The 5th is a really nice and chill place to work from, take meetings with coworkers or meet up with friends. They have lots of fun events like game nights and pub quizes.

This just isn't it. It's passable as a hostel bar, but as a regular restaurant, it scores a massive fail. The food and drinks are simply not good.

The 5th in Utrecht is a really nice coffee place right in the middle of the city. It has a great atmosphere, warm, relaxed, and perfect for hanging out with friends or just chilling on your own. One of the best things about it is the big selection of games you can play while you’re there, which makes it a fun spot to spend some time. The staff are friendly and helpful, and there are lots of tasty drinks and snacks to choose from, including good options for vegetarians and vegans. The place is also spacious, so it never feels too crowded. Whether you want to work, play games, or just enjoy a good cup of coffee, The 5th is highly recommended.

Came on a busy day to study at the laptop table. Took a long time before someone came to ask for our order, understandable with the crowd. Ordered a chai and a coffee. After 10 minutes the lady comes back to say that the chai is finished. So we went for the homemade ice tea. It was very sweet. Just a lemonade with peach syrup and lemon thrown in it. That that can even be called tea. Coffee was made wrong twice. You can't get into the wheelchair accessible toilet with your wheelchair. The door is very heavy. Way too small inside. You can't turn around as a wheelchair user. This will be my first and last time the 5th.

We reserved for a big group weeks in advance but they said the kitchen couldn't prepare all items on the menu as we were a big group. What was the point of reserving then ? Food was also very average. Definitely not recommended

The employees are very sweet. Inside, there is a large table where you can play board games and areas where you can use a laptop. It is a place where you can find good coffee and a sweet atmosphere without going far from the center.

Friendly staff, but there is a woman walking around who clearly doesn't feel like working. Stay at home if you are antisocial.

Los dos miembros del personal parecían distraídos, alejándose en medio de tomar nuestro pedido y no hacer un seguimiento para ver si necesitábamos algo más. Parecía que éramos una idea posterior en lugar de clientes valiosos. La comida en sí estaba bien, pero la experiencia en general fue frustrante. Definitivamente no es un lugar al que me apresuraría a volver.

Love this place. Good accoustics, dimmed lights, warm colors, friendly staff. Had very tasty quesedillas the other day. Spacious and even when it’s full it does not feel too crowded. Perfect for a cosy meeting on one of the soft couches or a good talk or do some work at one of the designated laptop tables. Or to get warm feet again with a hot chocolate on a cold winter afternoon.

Surprising card, good quality at a reasonable price. And the international and relaxed atmosphere certainly adds something extra.

I come here quite often to arrange some flexible work. A really great place to work with a coffee and a snack in between. Food can be a bit on the expensive side, but otherwise a nice place with friendly hosts.

Food is unfortunately disappointing. The Banh-mi sandwich (vegetarian) is a simple tofu sandwich with little flavor. Drinking is always nice here and it is my favorite place to work :) Enough seats and sockets, and you don't sit so close to each other that it is disturbing.

Love this place, and have been coming here for years, but i just tried the taco burger and it’s essentially a cheap snackbar style frikadel burger. I would definitely invest in higher quality food, as everything else is nice. Great place to work and have a drink.

El 5th Neude tiene un ambiente súper chill, deliciosa comida y gran servicio (inter) nacional. Especialmente ese día de verano cuando vinimos a ver el partido de hockey masculino por la medalla de oro olímpica. Ustedes (Chile y España) fueron más allá para que pudiéramos ver el partido mientras disfrutamos de una deliciosa cena haciendo que la noche fuera un gran éxito para mi hermana y para mí. Y la guinda del pastel fue la medalla de Oro Olímpica para el equipo de Hockey Masculino : ). El día 5 es un gran lugar para disfrutar de buena comida y bebidas. Recomiendo encarecidamente el batido Berry Heaven. La decoración es amplia, cálida y acogedora y un servicio amable. Se puede comer/cenar/aperitivos y bebidas. Creo que incluso sirven desayuno. Un montón de áreas diferentes para relajarse. Tienen espacios de trabajo y puedes reunirte para jugar con amigos o amigas que aún no has conocido. Cuando estuve allí de nuevo a finales de diciembre, la comida y el ambiente era de nuevo 5 estrellas y también había un espectáculo de stand up de comedia mundana también. Fue una noche divertida. Consejo: trae algo de efectivo. Se lo merecen.

the café is reminiscent of a mid-range hotel that could be anywhere in Europe, the staff was nice. Unfortunately the coffee wasn't that good and the banana bread wasn't from yesterday, but rather from the day before yesterday. But we still sat well and were able to rest.

I‘ve had the worst shakshuka in my life, the egg was more industrial than one could ever imagine (I hope it was even an egg). The dish was almost cold because the waiter did his job in a literal way and let it wait on the counter for ten minutes. Beyond this, the service was good, but couldn‘t make up for the quality of the food.

Atmosphere is nice, but 1. The waffle we ordered was cold, just like the fruits that came with it. 2. The banana bread was on the dry side. 3. Coffee was weak. Staff was very friendly and the atmosphere is nice too.

this is a super lively bar and restaurant. They have absolutely amazing food for pretty decent price and as far as I could tell, it was a full bar they host game nights and karaoke and many other activities almost every night so there’s always a bunch of people and it’s always a super fun environment. I will definitely come back here whenever I visit Utrecht

The restaurant is modern. You can work with your laptop here. Sockets available. The food is something different and surprised us positively. Everything was fresh and delicious. The waiter was very nice and tried to speak German with us. I can recommend this restaurant/cafe.

You will find this cozy restaurant located in the Stay Ok. It's reminiscent of a hip coffee shop mixed with the energy of an airport eatery. Service was very poor, 10 minutes before you receive a card, and another 15 minutes before they come to take your order. Once ordered, the food arrived quickly and tasted very good. Vietnamese iced coffee was undrinkable, so that needs to be looked into. Overall fine, but with the amount of concentration we will skip this place from now on.

There is no real atmosphere at all, and it's very expensive 6€ for 0.25L beer, and it was only very average, that's true robbery. Whit that rate is 24€ for 1l. There is chaotic feeling as you can hear sound from outside where there is a better bar and lot of noise and inside where they play slow music. At least they have friendly staff and air conditioning.

Okay burger and very good fries, reasonable price. However, poor service, they came to pick up empty glasses without saying a word and then we had to wait another 15 minutes in a room that was more than half empty. By then we had decided to just settle.

A quiet cafe perfect for working as a student, which is also done a lot. And there is enough space to sit with the laptop. I only tasted the bitterballen but they were really delicious, highly recommended. I also had the homemade ice tea, which I don't necessarily recommend, but the nachos are highly recommended, as is the croquette sandwich. Nice atmosphere, modern cafe and right in the center

We ordered coffee and two Quesadillas. Coffee was very average. The cookie with it was fine, nice and fresh. The quesadillas were disappointing. There was little taste. We also ordered tea. So they have fresh tea in all kinds of flavors. Very delicious. Furthermore, the atmosphere in this establishment is very good. It is spacious yet homely. Service is good and friendly.

Hipster café as it is written in the book: the look and furnishings are great, but savings were made in all other corners. The dishes taste like nothing and are prepared under unhygienic conditions that can be seen from outside. Portions too small, price too high. A pity.

We were here last night and we had such a nice waitress who came every time to check whether everything was still as expected. A really pleasant atmosphere too, not too busy like the other places on the Neude.

The atmosphere is fine but holy moly the service is bad. In an almost empty cafe you can wait half an hour for someone to look at you (even if there are two or even three of them), and then you can wait another 20 minutes for your drink while you cheer the employee up. seen talking to his/her colleague next to the refrigerator with drinks. They are friendly, but I was so thirsty and hungry... nice if you are a student with little money I guess because you order considerably less.

We kwamen hier voor een warme choco. Helaas hebben ze zo’n hippe versie met callebaut pastilles (dat wel erg goeie chocola is), die je dan in de melk laat smelten. Niet onze favoriet, maar toch maar gebleven vanwege t leuke plekje aant raam. De slagroom zat vrij weinig suiker in, stuk gezonder, maar ook minder lekker 🤪 En ze hebben wel koude chocomel, maar die willen ze niet verwarmen, want dan kunnen ze net zo goed die andere niet serveren 🤪 Ze was wel gewoon vriendelijk en snel 😊 Er stond rock muziek op, met af en toe iets te schreeuwerige nummers, die niet echt past bij de sfeer. Het glaasje waar een waxinelichtje in past, was leeg, mistte dus ook sfeer. De stoelen aant raam zien er wel cool uit, maar zitten een stuk ‘minder cool’ helaas. Volgens mij kunnen de grote ramen bij mooi weer open, dat is fijn. Het plafond heeft zo’n akoestische behandeling gehad, fijn, dat zie je gelukkig steeds vaker in horecazaken. De sterren voor t eten gelden in dit geval dus voor t drinken!

Relaxte plek, goede service, heerlijke lunch (vegan taco's zijn goddelijk).

Came as a family of 4. It is not really a restaurant but a great venue that has food, drinks and activities. When we were there it was games night. We had a lovely meal followed by a fun game of triominoes. Service was good and all the staff were absolutely lovely and could not be more helpful

Pretty big place. Really vibey. Nice chill decoration. There are normal tables and seats but there're also low chairs with funky pillows at the windows to lay back and relax. I also saw board games on the big table in the left corner. Could be nice to have a board night here :). Coffee and tea is nice, the price is ok for the center of Utrecht. Waiters were sweet and helpful when we were there. I think I'll come back.

We hebben hier met onze kinderen gegeten. Eenvoudige kaart, maar tegen schappelijke prijzen. Het interieur is doeltreffend eenvoudig, en de bediening maakt dat je je welkom voelt. Nu nog een terrasje!

Prettige sfeer in een moderne locatie. Leuke attente bediening uit verschillende delen van de wereld. Eten prima prijs kwaliteit verhouding: geen haute cuisine maar eenvoudig goed.

De Fifth is op zich een prima plek, leuk ingericht en er hangt een goede sfeer. Desondanks zijn er verbeterpunten. Het moet een plek zijn voor locals, maar de locals zijn voornamelijk studenten. Studenten werken veel op laptops en daar wordt geen rekening mee gehouden, ze kunnen bijna nergens zitten. Het eten en drinken is erg prijzig voor wat je krijgt. Als jullie klanten willen - het is er nu namelijk altijd enorm rustig - dan heb je toch liever de studenten die een kop koffie en tosti bestellen dan niemand? Verwelkom de mensen eens wat meer ipv dat niet flexibele gedrag. Willen jullie dat deze plek beter gaat lopen of willen jullie dat de klanten zich niet welkom voelen? Er is potentie, maar die wordt nu echt niet benut. Nog een tip, neem luifels, hang borden op bij de ingang, want jullie zijn nu vrij onzichtbaar voor buitenstaanders. Het is heel donker binnen en dat trekt ook niet bepaald de bezoekers. Je kan merken dat er wordt gehandeld vanuit strenge regels ipv vanuit passie.

Verbouwd en verplaatst van de eerste verdieping naar de begane grond, een bezoekje waard. We komen voor de lunch maar worden teleurgesteld omdat de keukenbrigade ziek is. Géén broodjes. Dan de optie voor gebak. Volgende teleurstelling, ook dat is nagenoeg uitverkocht. De dame met vrolijke sjaal in het haar die ik voor het gemak typeer als bedrijfsleider, brengt het slechte nieuws met zoveel vrolijkheid dat we het nauwelijks erg vinden. Met de tosti en de chocolade taart worden we verrast en na een slok van de flatwhite is al het slechte nieuws snel vergeten.
