We visited The Bulldog Palace during our weekend in Amsterdam and enjoyed it so much that we came back twice — first for breakfast, and then again for lunch. We were a group of 8 people, and the place turned out to be perfect for us: spacious, well-organized, and with a really pleasant atmosphere. Good music, good food, and a relaxed vibe, ideal both for starting the day calmly and for stopping by for lunch. A big plus goes to the staff, who were always friendly, helpful, and smiling — something that truly makes a difference, especially when you’re in a group. Overall, it’s a place where you feel comfortable and welcome, and where you genuinely want to come back. Very positive experience, definitely recommended

We had a great experience at the Bulldog Palace in Amsterdam on January 7, 2020. We spent a lot of time enjoying truly quality food and drinks. The service was excellent; the waitress (Italian-Romanian) was very kind and welcoming. We'll definitely be back!

So first of all, I would like to write that the bad reviews here are really unbelievable. Paying for the toilet even though you are a guest? 😵 Fortunately, it didn't even come to that... Because the service was way too unfriendly. The young, dark-haired man should consider doing another job. Not only that he said several times that he would come, later he told us that we have to wait here for 10-15 minutes before we can order something 💀 So we wait a bit and we notice that everyone has a joint in their hands from the guests. Of course, we know that it is allowed in the Netherlands. People wanted to sit down, saw the cloud of smoke and smelled it and left. While we were sitting there and waiting, we noticed that the waiter was unfriendly to everyone, whether it was to order, serve or pay. Some people who sat down left because he was so unfriendly...We left without ordering anything because we were so disgusted by the behavior and mentality of this store. Never go there again! As the person in charge, I would think about how the place runs and how unfriendly my waiters are.

Terrible service! The waitress Clara was very xenophobic. We had a problem with the table next to us (men, of course) who were bothering us with a glass on our table and squeezing us into our space. When we politely asked to move aside, one of them, who was quite inconsiderate, took offense. The waitress, who had already given us poor service, brought the bill without us asking, and when we asked if we had to pay to leave, she said, "I'll bring the bill whenever I want," which we took as a terrible invitation to leave. In short, I don't recommend it and I won't be back. I wish I had seen the reviews before going because, on top of everything else, it's expensive for such terrible service. The bar next door, "Heineken Hoek," is excellent; I recommend it!

There were five women and my husband at a table when a group of men arrived at the next table, even encroaching on ours. We complained, and the waitress Clara simply threw the bill on our table without us even asking. She then said, "I'll bring the bill whenever I want."

Terrible service! The waitress was completely rude and showed no interest whatsoever in providing service. We had a situation where a group of friends invaded our table and were causing a total disturbance. This waitress simply brought our bill and sent us out of the bar.

This wasn't my first visit to Bulldog Palace. The staff was friendly, and the guests were a diverse mix. I felt welcome and can highly recommend this coffee shop chain. There are also hotels in town, and plenty of souvenirs to choose from. The atmosphere was very cozy.

The wait for drinks can be frustrating but this is only because of how popular and busy the cafe and bar is! There were loads of seats and the staff were accommodating to my needs with a wheelchair! We actually enjoyed it here so much we visited every day of our trip!

I frequently visit Amsterdam. Once a year generally, so feel I know it reasonably well. Visited The Bulldog Palace on Monday 24th November 2025. Been here a few times and usually have an OK time. It is a bit pricier compared to other places and a bit touristy but fine for a newcomer to see what these coffee shops are like. Not a fan of paying for toilets, as I usually use a card for all transactions, so never have loose change. However, not a major issue. The bars opposite do not charge you to use their toilets, so after a quick drink and smoke, I would normally leave and go to another place where toilets are free. I was visiting Amsterdam with my son this time (his first time) and thought this would be a good place to start, as it is a mixture of bar and coffeeshop, it’s a good size and nearby to other places we could visit. Unfortunately this was a bad decision, as there was a very rude woman working there that night. Long, slightly wavy dark hair, slim, about 5’5”, Hispanic looking. I didn’t catch her name but didn’t care for her customer service “skills”. You would do well to either retrain, reprimand or fire her, as she is making you look bad. Her attitude frankly stinks. After spending the whole day travelling, a very long wait at airport and then a considerable walk to the Bulldog Palace (my fault really as map on phone sent us the wrong way a few times), the last thing I expect/ want to receive is a load of attitude from one of your staff members. Everyone else was quite friendly, but this one particular lady was very unpleasant. Snapping at us when i asked for the herbal mix I ordered with the drinks: “I’m just getting it. I already told you” (she hadn’t told me anything) and then telling us/ shouting at us to squeeze into the small booth, despite there only really being enough room on each of the small tables for one person. She kept saying “I already told you!” when she hadn’t told us anything. We just wanted to have a peaceful smoke and a beer; when you’re having a smoke, you don’t need somebody giving attitude. Completely “harshes your high”. I wanted my son to have a great first experience and to have this happen was very disappointing. He said it was not a great first experience and as this was the first place we had visited upon arriving, made him worry all the places would be the same. The Dutch people have always been very welcoming and friendly in my experiences so this was a total let down. Also why offer coupons/ vouchers for free drinks if you can’t use them (same staff member muttered to the barman, that we couldn’t use the vouchers after he had said we could)? This was a really bad experience and I personally won’t return to this establishment, nor will I recommend it.

I wanted to check it out but was denied entry by security for my clothes? I don’t feel like I wasn’t wearing club clothes which made it confusing. I asked what’s wrong with it and the guy just told me to please leave which I did… I have to say I’ve been denied entry at better places

Terrible experience. As soon as we arrived, they placed us on the mezzanine, without informing us at any moment that staying there required buying bottle service. I was there with my wife and friends, all of us drinking beer. Then a group arrived and the waiter started pressuring us to leave because someone who would “spend more” wanted our spot. Completely ridiculous. I questioned the waiter if that was fair, and he didn’t care at all. He even called security to intimidate me. I refused to leave unless they gave us another table since the place was packed. They eventually did, but being forced out like that was humiliating. An experience that guarantees I’ll never return to Bulldog.

I am so annoyed This is my favourite bulldog but to wait 50 minutes for food is a joke(chips) and then to be told 'the chef doesnt want to make it you ill cancel it' is ridiculous. Our waitress is so rude! Dark hair, quite small. The men working at the bar were so happy and she was so rude. Im furious and wont be coming back

My experience at The Bulldog was extremely disappointing and terrible. The waiters' service is unacceptable, bordering on xenophobia and creating a hostile environment. In addition to the awful service, it's absurd to be forced to pay to use the establishment's restroom even as a customer and while consuming food or drinks there. It's an exploitative and disrespectful practice towards those who are spending money there.

1 star I ate at The Bulldog Palace yesterday, and it was a very disappointing experience. We ordered three burgers, and it took almost 50 minutes for them to arrive. The service was truly terrible and completely unprofessional. The food itself was just acceptable for the price, but certainly not good enough to warrant such a long wait. Overall, I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant.

A former police station converted into a coffee shop. You can have beers inside a cell! A very, very original place. That said, it's always packed because it's very touristy.

Mega top place where you can smoke, drink and eat

me and a friend arrived around 1AM tonight with one hour to go. we sat down and the waitress instantly came by. Both of us were not sure what to drink yet, so she pressured us to choose something asap. When we decided and wanted to order, she was around the bar area dancing for a few minutes until she saw us waving. She brought me the wrong drink but i chose no to say anything because of her aggressive behavior. When i wanted to pay by apple pay, the first time did not work because she instantly removed the device. She was clearly very impatient, and we tried again. While my payment went through, she said it does not work and instantly held the device to my friends phone, who already had his apple pay ready because of her pressure. Ultimately, his phone made the payment sound as well. We checked later and luckily, nothing got booked off his card. I was with a good friend, so no problem, but this can lead to an awkward situation depending on who you‘re with. While the other workers seemed pleasant and calm, i can’t really say much about them. The waitress was extremely careless and unprofessional. You are serving food, so I consider you a restaurant. Please hire workforce that is up to it and does not dance around the tables instead of taking orders, after putting customers under pressure 1h before closing.

Great place to have a break. Roll one up and have a bite to eat. Location is great and it's really cool to see the history from the police station.

Disclaimer- my review is for the food and drink only 😄 The ambience is obviously very pulsating and invigorating. They have live music, DJ, Karaoke depending on the night. They have amazing and unique cocktails They have a fair range of hard liquor and liquers as well. The beer collection is also vast. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. The Avocado Chicken sandwich is unbelievable! Never had a crispy chicken with Avocado before! The smash burger was perfectly cooked and perfectly paired with the condiments. The Hot Chocolate- absolutely divine! Note- they serve it with sugar on the side. I did not add the sugar at first- but its not sweet at all. So I recommend adding the sugar and stiring some of the whipped cream into it to make it absolutely delish! They have a store to buy merchandise, which is well stocked and has some cool things. The timings of the bar, the coffee shop and the store vary from each other and on different days. So best to check before going. Would definitely recommend and be back

I had a delicious chicken burger, but I personally found the music a bit loud during dinner. The staff is friendly, but almost all of them speak English. Otherwise, it's a beautiful and fun place!

Two totally different experience. One of them with Yousef great guy very helpful on the outside. And down in the coffee shop, there is the worst employee ever he named Himself Mike that day 😅 very bad experience. But great place in total.

€25 to enter, €0.50 per pee, €5 for a cup of tap water, and a free sauna of strangers included - greediness at its finest! We started our week at a Thursday rave at the SugarFactory, where we paid €80 each and it was worth every cent. The music, space to dance, drinks that didn’t require a mortgage…the usual party rate. Then Saturday at The Bulldog. Tickets €25 - fair price for a smaller venue. But then the fun began: I needed the loo and - surprise! - a toilet lady waiting there to charge 50 cent every single visit. We ended up hitting an ATM, losing another €4.50 just to withdraw some cash (which we spent as our flight was the next morning). Next, asking for water alongside our drinks earned us…a cup of tap water for €5 (€22 for a cup of tap, and rum+coke). For context: at SugarFactory, a proper bottle was the same price. Then. Imagine trying to dance in a can of sardines. There were no limits on attendance, so personal space went extinct by 10PM. By midnight, we decided to bail. Honestly, sitting at the airport until 7AM felt like a spa retreat in comparison. Would not recommend. If that was my first party - I’d never do it again. Thanks to Adam Beyer and Awakenings for such amazing organisation which felt so exclusive for, after aaaaall the surcharges, turned out to be cheaper than a couple of hours at the bulldog.

This place was a vibe, cool selection, bar next door. It's pretty big two in 1 place type of deal. Best cafe I went to and I went to ALOT of them. However, like most places in Amsterdam - people working there are blunt, dismissive and a bit rude. If you understand this is part of culture and every day life here and many places close to it you will be just fine and enjoy it!

The toilets costs (even for paying customers) 50 cnt each time you need to go! And there is a very unpleasant granny watching the toilet entrance.

Workers are a bit speedy but this coffeeshop is special in a very good way, I understand the hype about this place.

Horrible experience. The waiter with long curly hair who was there at night (Sunday, September 28th) was a disaster. He treats people badly, gives you dirty looks, and takes the wrong order. We repeated our order because he brought us half the order, and he spoke very rudely to us, telling us it was our fault. I would never return.

It's a cool spot. We stumbled upon this spot not knowing what it was but we enjoyed the food add music.

Lively place that used to be a police station, it has a cool bar upstairs & the old cells can still be seen in the coffee shop down stairs 👍🍻🇳🇱

Interesanting place to be in Amsterdam

I was there a few months ago... and to my surprise, I saw the height of fraud: a shot of Bacardi and Coke being prepared for a customer by moving the Bacardi back and forth between two glasses, so the customer received half of the Bacardi with Coke. I then saw the other glass also being filled with Coke and given to another customer. Now, you'd think the bartender was moving the amount back and forth twice, but that was absolutely not the case... This way, the bartender sold two drinks and used half of the Bacardi... very clever, but a clever scam nonetheless! After seeing this, I'll never go there again and advise others not to carefully watch how their drink is prepared. I also noticed that other colleagues behind the bar see this happening and don't say anything... so it probably happens more often.

The waiters were especially unpleasant and rude. A place to avoid due to the horrible treatment we received as soon as we walked in. You ask for a lemon and it seems like you're asking for the favor of a lifetime. As if they had to go to another city to find a lemon tree. Bordering on xenophobia. Besides, it's of course a touristy place with the worst atmosphere in the city.

We were at Bulldog and were yelled at immediately upon arrival, telling us to order something – without even having time to sit down or arrive. After we finally sat down at a gaming table, the employee got angry and simply turned off the machine. Such rude and disrespectful behavior is truly disappointing. I strongly advise against going here – there are definitely better places where you'll be welcomed.

We had the absolute best time in Amsterdam here! The waitstaff and bartenders are amazing. They reach out to their guests and have fun with them. There's a real vibe here; everyone will find a place for themselves. The music is very diverse, and the DJ really made sure everyone, from 30 to 50, had a great time. Definitely worth it!

It's just wonderful to be there, it's a great place and the music is great. And for the stoners among us... you can also enjoy alcohol while smoking a joint. What more could you want?

Cute,crowded, good for tourists

On 03/09/2025 at around 16:00, I visited the Bulldog with a friend. We sat on the terrace, which seemed to be shared between the bar and the coffeeshop. However, it was very unclear which tables belonged to which side, and at some seats, we were told we couldn’t order drinks from the bar because they were part of the coffeeshop section — even though both are operated by Bulldog. We asked a staff member for clarification — a man wearing a black polo with "HOST" on it — but we didn’t fully understand his explanation the first time. When we politely asked again, he responded in a very rude and unprofessional manner, telling us we were "stupid" and "not listening." He then told us we were no longer welcome at the table and asked us to leave. At that point, he also claimed to be the bar manager. This experience was incredibly disappointing and reflected extremely poor service and hospitality. We had approached the situation respectfully and simply wanted some clarification. Being insulted and kicked out over a genuine misunderstanding is unacceptable — especially from someone that apparently represent management.

Perfect place, awesome weeds, and nice service.

Went here for a few drinks expecting to spend most of our night there. Ended up having one cocktail and leaving. The atmosphere was non existent. Awful music, DJ stood on his phone the whole time. Tables were sticky, chairs were scratchy and uncomfortable. We were asked to move tables multiple times as some areas were closed but not clearly marked as such. Cocktails were mediocre and overpriced. The ashtray on our table was filled with water, which eventually spread through our joints; ruining them. Very disappointing, dirty, smelly toilets and all in all just not an enjoyable experience or worth the money.

Another outstanding establishment by Bulldog. We visited here on a weekend and it was packed. Inspite of this, staff found room for 10 more. The service was brilliant and swift. An all round pleasurable experience
