The Irish Elk in Wijk 1 Binnenstad

I went there yesterday to watch football. I've been to many Irish pubs, but this was truly the worst. Unfriendly service, especially a woman with a black ponytail. I politely asked if I could order something after waiting 15 minutes. Then she bluntly said she wasn't there to take orders... People were waiting ages for their drinks and complaining furiously. Never again for me. Tip: Go across the street; the cafes are more charming and the service is friendlier.

It's a shame our order took 40 minutes to arrive. It wasn't busy with diners. Unfortunately, our food (for 4 people) was cold/lukewarm. The owner reacted poorly. We didn't pay for the food!

Received an email 2 days in advance via social deal that my reservation had been 'successfully cancelled'. Social Deal was therefore approached and they said that the pub was closed for the first 6 weeks. Look on Google Maps and it says that it is open. So not nice of either company. Shame!

Didn't go there, waited an hour, didn't get any food. Drinks took a long time to arrive, and the service was slow and unclear.

A few weeks ago, I ordered a burger for lunch around 1:00 PM. That wasn't a problem then. A few weeks later, I went back to the Irish Elk. Now I hear you can order burgers AFTER 5:00 PM. Two IPAs on tap were OUT OF stock. On my second visit. What a shame!

Cozy Irish pub. We hit the ground running. It turned out that there was an Irish pub evening. Nice music and friendly people.

Great place to eat and drink. The relatively long waiting time for the Burger lowered the rating somewhat. Friendly service.

Terrible experience, grumpy staff- snapping at us “English!!” Isn't it that difficult to learn “beer and white wine” in Dutch? Ridiculously expensive prices (4 drinks €29) for which you got a dirty glass.

The potato soup tasted great. The bouncer was very burnt. Long wait after the soup.

There's no soul in it. Owner has several tents and staff is on duty. Bartender was not a mood maker and you feel zero involvement. Making people feel comfortable or welcoming is apparently not part of the job description. So whether they speak English, Dutch or Russian does not matter much. Low Energy Pub

Had to wait a very long time for our lunch. There was some spillage on our plate, which was a bit wiped off and looked unappetizing.

The atmosphere in the shop was good. It was a Friday evening and it was nice and busy. Staff was really friendly, drinks were offered immediately, but then we had to wait half an hour before someone came to take our food (after I asked for it at the bar!). We were via Social Deal, so first the soup, then the burger. Both the tomato and potato soup were quite bland. That could be solved with salt. But not really a complex taste. Add 2 toasted rolls, but no herb butter. The burgers were tasty, although the fries tasted as if they had already been fried. The flavors were again quite neutral and not really exciting. We would come back here just for a drink. We would look for another place on the Brink for something to eat.

Bloody terrible! Waar te beginnen? Guinness van de tap besteld - was er niet / niets van de tap - Leffe blond besteld - we kregen tripel waarvan er 1 door de bediening over mijn broek heen ging / later door vrienden de tripel maar besteld en zij kregen de Leffe blond! De whiskey was op - op 1 glas na. Zeer lang wachten en erg klungelig allemaal. Geen chocolademelk en geen appelsap. Natuurlijk klopte de rekening niet en zagen we mensen met getapte biertjes naar buiten lopen. Avoid this place!

Deposed, I can't call it anything else. 2 sandwiches together for almost €20. 2 flutted sandwiches, tasteless and very thinly topped, for which we also had to wait half an hour. Only the service was friendly.

How can you possibly be an Irish Pub and no longer serve Guinness???? Pleuris tent

The experience is bad. Takes way too long. Very cold in the restaurant. The red wine was not up to temperature. Three times the food did not go well. Whether the cook is a real chef, I don't think so. Music way too loud. The food was not warm. There is still a lot of room for improvement there.

The service is also very bad. And the food is cold yuck. And had to wait a very long time.

Frozen fish from the freezer. Don’t take fish and chips. It’s advertised as beer battered but was plain watery frozen fish from a supermarket.

Had dinner here on Monday evening via social deal. We were the only guests. Nice pub, music oh okay. Soup came very quickly! We found the tomato soup tasty but a bit watery and the potato soup not so soupy. Beef burgers were good! Portions are generous. Prices quite high, if I had not had social deal prices, I would certainly have found €8.50 too much for this soup. Service was nice, but not very interested/attentive. I would go back, but only with a social deal or something.

Saying we can eat there and then letting us order drinks first. Then don't come by again for half an hour and then tell them that the kitchen is closed. But do collect the drinks. Bad service

Looked nice at first glance. Also nice in Irish style. Unfortunately it took a very long time before we got our food. Service barely came by, had lost my order and also had no proper English and didn't really seem to understand what he was doing.. The food was very substandard and not at all commensurate with the price (it was way too expensive for what you got). Most of it was cold. Vegetables straight from the freezer are very watery and fish and chips are also just a tasty treat from the freezer. Lettuce was no longer fresh. Potato soup with fried mushrooms was definitely not edible. Soup very tasteless and mushrooms very soggy and undercooked. All in all a bad experience that cost us too much money.

Ended up here through a social deal and enjoyed a delicious lunch. Large portions and good quality. Friendly staff.

Vol goede moed gingen we voor een Social Deal lunch, maar dat pakte helaas alweer anders uit. (Laatste paar keren enorm lang wachten) dit keer werden we sneller geholpen omdat we de enigen waren?! De soep (normaal 8,50,-) was smakeloos en rook zelfs vreemd. De oplossing van de kok? Geen.. maar Peper en zout om het zelf op te lossen. Toen kwam de uitsmijter, (normaal ruim 15,- ) op een droge boterham van gisteren, zonder boter, met een slappe plak ham, goedkope cheddar en bleek gebakken, bijna rauwe eieren en wat verdwaalde ijsbergsla uit een zakje. Dit alles geserveerd op een oud onhygiënisch houten bord. De serveerster deed haar uiterste best (credits aan haar!), we hadden met haar te doen dat zij steeds onze teleurstelling moest overbrengen. En die gratis koffie? Leuk gebaar maar eigenlijk zouden we (een deel) van het geld terug moeten krijgen. De liefde in het eten is hier ver te zoeken. Dit was voor ons de laatste keer..

Not enough staff for the number of customers. All the dishes were on the bar inside. While the owner was also there, but he preferred to sit outside and talk. The girls at the service were very busy.

Very nice restaurant. Friendly staff and nicely decorated inside. We ordered potato soup and a tasty sandwich. Large portions and very tasty! Don't be too stingy with the toppings either. We will definitely come back when we are in the area again!

Service very poor. Several people try to contact the service, but they do not care about their guests. Once ordered it took 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive. Glasses of beer are then unceremoniously thrown on the edge of the table, find out for yourself who's drink was which.

The terrace is quite attractive, but after ordering a round of drinks it took at least fifteen minutes for it to arrive.

The service still has a lot to learn, they don't know their own menu and they have to wait a long time. The salad comes with bread and dip, which was not included. After asking, a few hard chunks were put on a plate without dip.

Due to understaffing, the workload seemed too high for the staff, and this was not managed well. We had very difficult contact and the ordered 2 cokes were never even delivered. Meat was tough and well done. Vegetables and fries are tasty. Chapeau to the waitress who tried to remain cheerful and attentive under these circumstances. But unfortunately not to come back more often, because it was certainly not cheap.

This afternoon we wanted to have a drink on the terrace. We had to wait a very long time for service, we were patient. Being able to order a coke after fifteen minutes. Unfortunately we were not worth a look. After another fifteen minutes, the colas were placed in front of us, with our fingers in the glasses, but not even served 'neatly'. We continued the drinks somewhere else.

Had salad with coffee. Atmosphere is not cozy, few staff but nice. Quite pricey

Met onze kleindochter een hamburger gegeten. De kwaliteit was redelijk tot goed, maar de service kon beter. Het was niet echt druk, maar we hebben een kwartier zitten wachten voor we onze drankjes konden bestellen… In die periode zijn in ieder geval van 2 tafels andere mensen weggelopen, omdat zij het te lang vonden duren…

We went here for lunch yesterday. First of all, we had to wait more than an hour for a bouncer and a sandwich. You would say that there are hardly any easier dishes... but nothing could be further from the truth. The cheese on the sandwich had not melted at all and the eggs on the sandwich were so overcooked that it was completely dry. A little later I even had a blackened piece of egg in my mouth. We indicated this to the waiter at checkout and all she said was "sorry". It was really, really bad.

We just wanted to grab a snack, but the waitress kept ignoring us until we left frustrated after like 20 minutes.

Great beer and service really good customee service. Everything in this pub is simply perfectly awesome............

We waited 45 minutes for lunch: 3 salmon sandwiches. When I asked how long it would take, the answer was: everyone is suddenly ordering food. It will take even longer!

Leuke ervaring door de 'Irish' sfeer en engelssprekende bediening. Lekkere soep, de hamburgers waren te rijkelijk voorzien van saus waardoor andere smaken verloren gingen. Mooie porties.

We were warned in advance that if you wanted to eat something, it could take up to 40 minutes. Nice weather and no rush, so fine. But then the order finally arrives after an hour of waiting and a portion of fries is missing. Shame. When this is delivered, it is half hot and half cold (i.e. old) fries, without salt. The sandwich was also nothing to write home about. You then walk inside to pay and are actually sent outside again to pay with the waiter. That one man with his hands full, while there are 3 people inside doing nothing. As a final straw, you are also expected to be able to pay with your phone. You can't pin! Really idiotic. The last time Irish elk for me! Bleh!

No Dutch-speaking service. Mess. We had restaurant card, but they had no idea what it was. We received the money on the card in cash without ordering anything. Commercial? Just eat somewhere else.

Last Thursday evening we had a reservation via Social Deal. We ordered the Irish soup and a main course and a drink each. We already indicated that we were willing to pay extra if necessary. Then the waitress came by 3 times empty handed, but no drink. And after quite some time she came to report that it was not possible to order a different dish than what we would get via Sociaal Deal. But we ran out of Irish soup and we couldn't order 2 types of burgers because they ran out of cheese. After this we left. We can't say what the food/drink was like because we don't have any. The handling of Social Deal was fine, the amount was added to our credit. By the way, the first setback of all reservations is via Social Deal.

After calling for fifteen minutes to give up food, we got back from the kitchen that it would take an hour due to crowds. The order was not that special, 2x toasted sandwich, 1x fries, 1x bouncer, 1x club sandwich, 2x beef burger, 1x nachos and 1x smoked salmon sandwich. The latter was dry topped with raw vegetables, a slice of tomato and 1 slice of salmon for which I had to pay €14.50, the beefburger buns were twice as big as the beefburger itself, €17.50 each and it contained bones and came with 10 pins of fries. The toasties and nachos were excellent. Understaffed Too bad, too bad, but you won't see us again, the bill was quite high

This bar is meh worthy. The bitterbales were lukewarm and not of good quality. The drinks and associated service were substandard. Not a word of Dutch was said by the waiter. Besides the price, it all felt very cheap.

Had to wait a very long time for the food, even though it apparently wasn't busy. Food was quite sparse and not very tasty. No dressing on the salad, cheese on the bouncer was not melted and bacon was almost impossible to find. Beer was nice. Everything was also quite expensive.

The food and service in this place is a disaster. Waited more than 30 mins for a club sandwich and a goats cheese salad. When it arrived the salad was clearly not fresh (limp lettuce, squashed toms) with a thin slice of goats cheese and 1 piece of bread - no seasoning, no dressing and very small. The fries ordered never arrived. The club sandwich was okay, but was served again with no seasoning. Two sodas arrived bizarrely with ice in one and not in the other. We then had to wait 15 mins to pay the bill because apparently the girl behind the bar couldn’t operate the payment system and the only waiter had gone out. Awful!

This afternoon during Deventer I had lunch on stilts at The Irisch Elk, now I like to enjoy my lunch somewhere, but this was really bad, not recommended.

The specialty beer was lukewarm and the staff unfriendly. The food took a ridiculously long time, even though the terrace was almost empty. The hamburger was really nasty and tasteless. Considering the high prices this was a big disappointment. It took an hour before we got the food and only then were we asked for a new beer. Almost everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. This was the last time I came here.

Had a drink and something to eat here yesterday. I really can't give more than 1 star. The drink was lukewarm. The staff wasn't really friendly. We had to wait at least 45 minutes (if not longer) for our burgers to arrive. The food was very disappointing. I've never had such a bad burger. The burger was completely done. It was really tasteless and dry. You pay €22 for this. I'm really bummed about it. Afterwards I was disappointed that I didn't just go to McDonald's. Or that I had ordered a burger somewhere else. I won't go here again.

Good experience at first but when paying by card the waitress's phone acting as a TPE seemed not to work well with contactless, she then asked me to do it again without showing me the phone screen. I was therefore charged twice for my consumption, which is scandalous.

The food/drinks were good but the service from the first male server was just bad. He was disinterested and irritated and we don't know why. Later there was a female waitress who luckily was more helpful. The terrace was far from full, while the other terraces were full, which did not improve the atmosphere.

Cozy tent to watch football with a beer, I thought the prices of the food were very expensive (didn't have any food myself, but it didn't look very attractive either) the staff was friendly, but it wasn't entirely clear whether they were looking forward to their work to turn out.

We waren sceptisch na het lezen van enkele andere recensies, maar gelukkig stelde deze plek niet teleur. We hadden fish and chips en hamburgers en het eten was top - en het Guinness was ook geweldig!

The staff were very friendly and kind. Apart from the must-order Guinness, we also got some nacho's which came very quickly to the table and were quite good!

Also had dinner this afternoon via social deal. But we cannot agree with the bad reviews. We immediately got something to drink. The soup was tasty and hot (sometimes you get that soup that you have to eat immediately otherwise it is no longer warm) but that was not the case here. The sandwiches we received were exactly what we expected. Management does its best. We find it annoying that more people don't try it here, it's certainly a stark contrast to the shops next door

Bad thing! Choose a 2-course dinner via Social Deal. Tomato soup as watery as can be, we got a veggie burger instead of chicken, there was no salt on the fries and we had to wait almost an hour for the food. Service suddenly disappeared, several people went inside to ask if they were still being helped or could order something. At one point, customers just left because of poor service.

We were in this restaurant because of Social Deal and sat outside with the nice weather. We had to wait 2 hours for our order and also for our second drink! Tasted good, but it took a very long time. Paid 4 euros for a bottle of Rivella.

We got something to drink pretty quickly. We indicated several times that we wanted to see the dinner menu. That lasted and lasted, but on Saturday April 13 the weather was beautiful so we had patience. After about an hour we were able to order. We waited another hour before asking the waiter where the food was. He came back 10 minutes later to say there was no stock so we didn't get anything.

As part of our annual reunion for employees of a defunct company, we, the last remaining six, opted for Deventer and after an afternoon of sightseeing on a lovely day, found ourselves (around five o'clock) at the Irish Elk on Brink square. Ordering was no problem and I soon found a neat pint of Guinness in front of me. Conversations were lively and thus we completely forgot that it was already seven thirty and we still had nothing to eat. After more nearly two hours, one of us managed to halt a waiter, who 'would ask what had gone wrong in the kitchen. A minute later he was back, really embarrassed. He had found the kitchen devoid of any foodstuffs. They had nothing! OK, it was a busy day, but the charming waitress could have and should have but evidently didn't know the problems they were up against in the kitchen!!!! WARNING: do not visit this watering hole until they have gor their affairs in order. Being out of anything to serve is possible, but let your customers know in time. Fortunately, Deventer had other eateries (thank you Heksenketel), who had foreseen the lovely day ahead and had made sure they had enough in stock. Tip for Irish Elk management: ask then how they do it. You may learn something.

We had made a reservation via social deal, but it turned out that they no longer had any hamburgers. We got fish & chips, a small piece of fish was included :-( It was really bizarre how they solved this, their purchasing was not in order at all. And you order a Cheerful blonde, no, sorry, we don't have any at the moment.. Also something about bad purchasing/empty barrel.. That boy at the counter seemed to be under the influence, was not at all concerned with the customers on the terrace, who wanted to order something. Really what a disaster this deal/tent..BE WARNED!!🙁

Unfortunately not okay today, no trained staff, just do whatever, can't handle the crowds, staff sticking their fingers in a few full glasses of beer, yuck, big mouth when asking a normal question, only I think the service is happy with the music. Let's just hope I don't get sick!

As you'd expect for an Irish pub, great ambiance.

Contrary to some reviews, our experience was actually very good. We were a bit shocked by the reviews and doubted whether we should go in, but in the end we took the step. Was very quiet inside, but the service was friendly and fast, both the drinks and the food were very tasty so we left satisfied and positively surprised!

Great typical pub atmosphere. Food was good. The burgers were huge and really enjoyed the fish and chips.

The soup was watery and tasteless, the burger raw and the bun dry. Staff is friendly and we were offered a new burger. Shame, nice location but it completely lacks the atmosphere of a pub.

We werden aangetrokken door het leuke terras.. groene lampjes,warme heaters... zag er gemoedelijk uit! Bij binnenkomst vriendelijk personeel en er zaten een aantal tafeltjes,wij mochten bij het raam. Ze kwamen ons snel vam de bestelde drankjes voorzien en het eten kwam ook binnen redelijke tijd en was prima! Bij een ander bezoek aan Deventer komen we zeker terug!

We had lunch via social deal and it took a very long time before we got the soup. Then our order went wrong and we ate one after the other. I have a nut allergy, did not report it, did not see it on the menu. The walnuts were on them and I removed them myself. Service fine. Saw the 9.5 euro children's menu on the menu for fries with frikandel... Furthermore I like the pub atmosphere, the music Two TVs each on different channels. 4 years ago: Ate in this pub through a social deal. Burgers were tasty. Both vegan and meat. Staff friendly. otherwise it's pub grub. with an informal atmosphere with a large screen showing football or rugby.

Perhaps the empty terrace (in contrast to the other terraces) should have been a warning, but we were hungry and just wanted to sit somewhere. ----- Bizarre. We had to wait 1.5 hours for our order, and then they didn't even get our order right! Our burger's bun was also drier than the boiling sand in the Sahara, as if it had been exposed on the table for several hours. By the way, beer is extremely expensive here. Our friend ordered a Steak, but it was smaller than my fist and instead of a bowl of vegetables that she ordered, she got a pathetic salad. The staff at the bar genuinely tried to help us, and that's why I still gave it another star, but this was really a disaster. Deventer is buzzing with nice places, so feel free to choose a different location. You won't find me here again.

Kom hier al bijna 6 jaar en altijd is er goeie service met heel vriendelijk personeel die ook snel is en intresse toont in je echt een aanrader!

Via een social deal hier gegeten. Het was erg koud buiten, dus we wilden eerst binnen zitten, maar dat was niet echt ontspannen want de muziek stond heel hard. Het menu, wat was samengesteld voor de deal, was ook niet zo bijzonder. De aardappelsoep was niet zo lekker en de hamburger niet goed gebakken. Al met al raad ik het niet aan om in de winter hier te eten met een groepje meiden. Het zal vast gezellig zijn om hier met een groepje mannen een biertje te doen.

Super vriendelijk personeel (is echt super). Maar het menu is tov andere cafés duur.en de hamburger is zeer droog, en de topping vd burger moet je zoeken.

I badly needed a brunch and found that place which serves eggs & bread and they also have a lot of options but I choose their Ham & Cheese Egg and my partner got mixed snacks to munch on while drinking beer. It was busy but we were well attended by their staff. It was a lovely experience. I would like to visit again.

Mijn man en ik hebben via social deal gereserveerd voor de prijs van €14.95 en hebben gekozen voor de Ierse aardappelsoep en de zelfgemaakte hamburger. De presentatie was erg leuk. Het was heel veel. Wij beiden konden het niet helemaal op krijgen. Het personeel is vriendelijk. Hoewel we voor 17:00 uur gereserveerd hadden, maar eerder aanwezig waren, werden we direct bediend. Leuk terras! Een aanrader!
