A small and cozy place. We tried the steak menu: one with chicken with rice and salad, and the other with beef with fries and salad. Very tasty, fast service, and good service. We were served by a very friendly Spanish-speaking woman. Good prices and good food.

Very tasty, good food. Truly worthy of your money with big portions and quick service. Nice atmosphere and nice people working there. A lot of vegetarian options as well! And still as tasty, with a lot of vegetables and different spices. Also great sauces on the table free to use to add even more flavour. Would definitely recommend to a friend!!

We went to a small restaurant on the street in Amsterdam specifically to eat Brito, which is considered the best food in the world, but the food did not have the flavor I expected. Although we ordered several different dishes, I did not like any of them. The meat was cut very large and tough, and the seasoning and sauce I expected from a Mexican cuisine were not what I wanted.

Amazing Mexican vibe and the food is 10/10 we ordered fajitas and quesadillas with some drinks. Taste and food quality is great and everything was served fresh! This will be my place to come eat everything i will come to Amsterdam. 💥👏🏽

It's delicious, and every table has a power outlet where you can charge your phone. Very tasty, and every table has 2 sockets, I easily charged my phone. I recommend it.

It was as good as Mexican food is gonna get for being in Europe. That being said g said it was good. Some stuff had a little curry flare to it which was the unauthentic taste of it. But it was still good and the price was good. I will be back next time!

If I could put zero... especially the two restaurants with the same name on the street should be avoided. I got severe food poisoning from a shredded beef burrito which ruined my stay in Amsterdam. The meat is really spoiled!

Locale carino esteticamente, pulito (bagno), con una decina di tavoli, ampia scelta vegetariana, prezzo nella media per la città. Essendo un locale messicano, va tenuto conto del fatto che le pietanze sono piccanti. Io non l'ho fatto e ho fatto un po' fatica a finire le enchiladas e i nachos veg che ho ordinato insieme ad un'altra persona, ma che comunque erano molto buoni. Nel complesso consiglio questo locale a chi piace il messicano e si trova nel centro di Amsterdam.

My friends (2) and I went here for dinner, waited 30 mins for our drinks and 50 mins for our food. Our food arrived and was not good at all. Dont recommend this restaurant at all. Furthermore my friend is a food critic and was very disappointed.

The worst meal I've ever eaten, none of the three dishes tasted good at all! Frozen seafood and everything else was totally tasteless and poorly prepared. Steak was like a rubber tire and prices were abnormal for this incredibly bad food. Better stay away! We wanted to give it a chance despite 3.9 ⭐️ was the worst idea!

found this place on a whim and it was a quick decision as we was hungry and impatient. Food was tasty and the server who I think was the owner was great and chatty. Would recommend. We paid on card and there was no option to tip which we would have done had there be.

My family of 4 went here last week, while visiting from Australia, and we are really happy that we did!! We all ordered a main and they were all lovely. I ordered vegetarian enchiladas and they were so delicious. The interior is authentic and a little quirky at the same time, which adds to the charm. The guy that served us looked like a younger Nicholas cage...very sweet too.

The food has no Mexican flavor, they charged me €5.90 for a simple coke, even at the A'dam lookout they are cheaper and on top of that the waitress has the nerve to tell me that the tip is not included in the bill and that if I wanted leave.

THE MEXICAN is a very small hidden restaurant not far from the Dam, therefore extremely central. We came here for an early dinner on Boxing Day with two adults and a child. We ordered Jalapeño Poppers, Fajitas, Chicken Wings and drinks. Everything was served within an acceptable time frame and even though we only ordered one main dish, nobody looked at us in a funny way or made us feel less welcome. The food was great. It’s of course not the top tier authentic Mexican cuisine you’ll find here, but we found everything to be delicious and tasty measured by European Mexican restaurant standards. Saying this is more of an Indian restaurant cause the food is spicy is nothing but ridiculous. Educate yourself before making a fool of yourself on the internet. The prices at this restaurant are nearly unbeatable. Main courses come at around €18 per dish, starters are €8-10. You can eat much worse for much more money when you’re in Amsterdam, especially around the Dam. The service could be a lot more friendly aha welcoming, that much I’ll give you critical people. But we were still treated with respect and never felt unwelcome or overlooked. We’d come here again any given time. Thank you got for having us!

If you're especially vegetarian you HAVE to go here, the service was great, the place looked beautiful and the food was great quality and quantity for it's price. It's very affordable and in a good location as well I don't usually write reviews but I highly recommend!! Best food place in Amsterdam and the vegetarian quesadilla and the vegetarian enchiladas were the best

Amazing vegetarian food, In a town where most restaurants give you a veggie burger at best the Veggie enchiladas and quesadillas are ASTOUNDING and the Mojito is AMAZING. Honestly 10/10 restaurant and a must visit in amsterdam if youre vegetarian

We visited here twice in one week last time we visited 3-4 years ago, portions have got significantly smaller from then, really quite expensive for what you get, €8 for a handful of tortilla chips and dip, and €18 for a small plate of chicken and rice with salad. Unfortunately won’t be returning

Very rude welcome from the staff (owner?) Asked with my wife if we can order something to take away, the guy said 'not tonight because the kitchen is busy' in a very agressive manner (there were free tables). I feel sorry because I can't understand why he has been acting like this... This restaurant probably doesn't like foreigners. The guy seems to be very insecure and weak... for a low standard 'mexican' restaurant, this is funny... the guy isn't mexican by the way, he looks weird, not sure he is even from Holland.

Lamentablemente no estábamos satisfechos con nuestra comida en absoluto, los dos teníamos el burrito de carne que era insípido, solo la carne de res tenía algún sabor (como comida enlatada para perros). Si lo hubiera sabido, habría buscado otro lugar a pesar de tener tanta hambre. El precio no vale por la calidad de la comida.

We ordered Nachos and half of them were burnt, we asked for guacamole for the Nachos and they gave us a tiny bowl for which they charge you €4.50. I ordered grilled ribs and they put them with “barbecue” sauce which tasted like curry without asking, I asked them to change the ribs for some without sauce and they brought me spicy ones which were not grilled. I also ordered Coca Cola which came without bubbles as if they had given me one that was already open. The waitress from the beginning had a bad face and was not very friendly. One of the worst places.

It is difficult to find an affordable and relaxed restaurant in Amsterdam Center. We had a very tasty meal here and received very friendly (and I mean friendly) service. Rare in this tourist enclave. Just try it once.

I recently visited this restaurant with family and had a very disappointing experience. The atmosphere was unpleasant, with a noticeable smell of smoke despite the no-smoking policy. When we addressed this with the staff, they boasted about it rather than taking corrective action.Additionally, the food was of very poor quality and lacked any flavor. It was a thoroughly unsatisfactory dining experience. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

A nice Mexican restaurant. The food tastes very tasty, the portions are good and the prices are ok for Amsterdam. It's nice to sit inside and can also see a bit into the kitchen and hear how the food is being prepared if you sit on the first floor. Unfortunately, the toilets were very narrow and dirty.

Pay attention to the big red X in the name! Horrible food, definitely not Mexican. Our loaded nachos were burnt, the tacos were made with mystery meat mixed with green beans, and the fajitas platter for two was simply embarrassing. Good fixings, but the cheap, chewy beef served in an Indonesian curry?! had nothing to do with a proper grilled marinated skirt steak. Way overpriced. Needed some fresh and grilled vegetables. Good fries. Cute bathrooms upstairs. Overall, one of the worst meals we have had anywhere.

Recently visited this “Mexican” place…hoping to enjoy some real Mexican food. Instead, what I got was a disaster. Ordered the beef quesadilla, and it was straight up, an abomination! First off, they used semi-cooked celery in the quesadilla. Celery! In a quesadilla! Who does that? The beef was ground, which is not what you expect in a traditional quesadilla. Yikes! To make matters worse, instead of using a proper tortilla, they served the quesadilla with some weird, crunchy pita bread that was burned at the edges. The whole thing lacked any authentic Mexican flavors. Tasted closer to a Samosa than a quesadilla. Also, just look at the way it was cut.. super weird and unappetizing. Any Mexican would probably rather end their life than eat what they served us. It was shameful and a complete waste of money. Avoid this place if you’re looking for anything remotely Mexican.

Stumbled upon the mexican and wasn't disappointed the food was delicious the grilled chicken and pepper sauce was the best ive had the jalapeño poppers were so delicious we ordered another portion and the nachos with chicken 😋the service was fantastic the cutlery was so well polished that it deserved 5☆☆☆☆☆alone Nellie was such a delight and it was by far the best meal Ihad this trip 😋😋🥰🥰

We went to this restaurant for a Mexican lunch. The place is quaint but nice. The food was delicious! Their salsa and chips were very tasty. We ordered loaded vegetarian nachos and enchiladas. Both of these were very yummy and filling but you'll be charged for the salsa. They also serve superb french fries 🍟

Tourist trap this is not at all Mexican food, this is Tex Mex food with Mexican dishes names. I would not recommend this restaurant, at least for the price it worth 7-8 eur range, the cost is around 15 euros which are not good enough related to the quality of the food. Nice ambience and decoration but it is overpriced related to quality

A tourist trap. We sat and ordered the lunch menu, and at the end we were asked to pay the normal price which was much more expensive. The waiter insisted that we ordered the non-lunch menu because our portions were bigger than those from lunch menu. Although specifically we asked to show us the lunch menu dishes and ordered from there. A cheating place. Does not deserve more than 1 star.

Disaster !!! Avoid taking advantage of tourists who don't speak very English to get scammed!!! Low-end cuisine and charges for the smallest thing, like small sauces or the slightest slice of cheddar! The Esseb is great, the guacamole is a bit tasteless, otherwise everything is very good. The waitresses are very quick. Price-performance is very good thanks to the portions 👍

Unfortunately we went into the restaurant blind. There was a very large selection nearby and we were overwhelmed on the first day. You have to make reservations everywhere if you want to eat out. Then we decided on this restaurant because we wanted Mexican food. A table just became available. At first glance, the restaurant has a Mexican charm. You feel like you're in a bar in Mexico. The tables and the restaurant is not very clean. You sit cramped together at rickety little tables, with another table somewhere in the corner. There is a broken refrigerator in the corner of the guest room that hasn't been cleaned in a while. Stuff is stored on it. You look into the open kitchen and constantly hear the microwave. So the ambience is quite fitting for a Mexican bar in deepest Tijuana. I think that's a good idea - but it's also the only thing that reminds me of Mexico in this restaurant. The chefs look more Indian than Mexican. The food itself also tastes more Indian than Mexican. We had the fajita for two people. There was a lot of curry on it - so this was definitely an Indian dish reinterpreted as a Mexican dish! It generally tasted good but it's just not Mexican. There was also a side dish of (Belgian?) fries, which isn't really Mexican either. Normally you would expect rice and beans. Then there was a quarter of a big tomato, a cube of cucumber, corn, cheese and guacamole and corn tortillas. Plus a tasteless mayonaise. So a few ingredients were Mexican but unfortunately overall it wasn't a Mexican dish. It was still delicious, don't get me wrong. But just not Mexican. The staff was very disinterested. Some guests also complained but a waitress always argued that the way it was served was correct. The cooks from the Indian area watched you the whole time from the kitchen, which was somehow unpleasant. The waiters, on the other hand, didn't pay any attention to you at all. We also drank a magarita. Once with strawberry and a classic one. These drinks also had nothing to do with Mexico. The strawberry magarita was filled with strawberry juice. It had an extremely chemical taste. The classic margarita tasted like water. The artificial lemon essence also actually made the drink undrinkable for €11 each... So overall, really not recommended. We had a very good comparison because we recently ate at a real Mexican restaurant and ordered exactly the same thing and also have experience with Mexican food from real Mexicans. So if you want really Mexican then avoid this restaurant! The visit cost around €60 which really hurts because it wasn't what we had expected. €22 for two bad drinks and €38 for non-Mexican food.

Our stay in Amsterdam, which had gone really well, was unfortunately ruined after going to eat at The Maxican. We stopped to read the menu in front of the “restaurant”. Quite quickly the owner came to approach us and himself offered us a formula at €19.90 for a dish for supposedly two people. What was our surprise when the time came to pay. We were charged twice for the dish in question because two people ate it and not one. The boss's explanations were totally lunatic and in contradiction with the prices displayed and the explanations provided. As you can see only one dish came to our table for two charged and the quantity which was for supposedly two people we will return. The seafood was frozen from I don't know when and half the platter consisted of roughly chopped onions. This dish below cost us €38.80 Avoid tourist trap scam
