An expensive disappointment at restaurant Sol before Tess Merlot We went to the Royal Theatre full of anticipation for the Tess Merlot concert, preceded by a dinner at restaurant Sol. On paper a nice evening: culture and culinary combined. In reality it unfortunately turned out to be a disgrace. The beginning was still hopeful – we were welcomed friendly and a drink beforehand went smoothly. But then the disappointment set in. The dinner, as it turned out later, was provided by restaurant De Basiliek. What was presented as a refined performance meal turned out to be nothing more than a tasteless cutback exercise. The crudités upon arrival were dried out, as if they had been waiting on a tray for hours, with a bland yoghurt “sauce” that was more reminiscent of low-fat quark without any seasoning. The main course: a lukewarm, undercooked quiche-like creation filled with mushrooms. Cold on the inside, soggy on the outside, and completely tasteless. No texture, no finesse, no love. And then the “surprise dessert”: an undercooked madeleine, which looked more like wet cake batter than a French delicacy. It was certainly surprising, but in a negative way. For two menus, a beer and two glasses of white wine we paid a whopping 70 euros. A price that was absolutely not in proportion to the quality of what was offered. A missed opportunity, and to be honest: an insult to the beautiful location and the artist of the evening. Next time we will skip dinner at Sol – or bring a sandwich from home.

It was good and nice that they have decaf!

Yesterday, we ate before a play; a 3-course Moroccan meal. The food and the quantity are truly an insult to Moroccan cuisine. We were supposed to get mezzes as a starter. A 10-year-old child would have made it better. Falafel was a small ring that had been overcooked. We got something with 4 thin slices of carrot and a few mini beans (for 3 people). These came from the cheapest jar of carrots and beans; they had no flavor. There were also a few olives and bread with a tiny amount of sauce (2 pieces). With one piece of bread, the sauce was already gone. For the main course, we had a tagine with rice, chicken, and chickpeas. It was mostly dry rice with a small chicken leg and some chickpeas in a waxy sauce. Dessert was a small piece of baklava. The cost of this menu couldn't have been more than 5 euros. For 28.50 euros, I really don't expect high-quality food. But this bad and so little is truly disgraceful. Put a real chef in the kitchen or send the chef to a refresher course as soon as possible

What a wonderful surprise on board! The presentation alone is a delight.

Starter and dessert were excellent... main course, however, the osso bucco could not be found with a magnifying glass... a shame because the taste of the tomato sauce and spaghetti was excellent.

El restaurante está ubicado en el Koninklijke Schouwburg. Todo se centra en alimentar al cliente antes de que tenga que ir al teatro. El menú muestra recetas tradicionales a precios razonables. El servicio es muy rápido. Las entradas para el teatro están siendo escaneadas en el restaurante. Buen personal!

The food was okay, but not special. I wouldn't eat there again. There was a lack of flavor to complete the dishes.

Sorry, I can't be very enthusiastic. We didn't have much time, and unfortunately the service was very lax. After fifteen minutes no one had come and we could no longer order a starter. Furthermore, the pheasant was not a pheasant but a chicken.

Good coffee and delicious apple pie

Aan onze geitenkaas salade en hamburger was duidelijk geen aandacht besteed. Sla met een paar brokjes geitenkaas en een klodder creme fraiche. De burger had weinig smaak en een klef wit broodje. Als Nationaal theater moet je dit niet willen. Het eten is een aanfluiting. Enige pluspuntje is de life muziek.

Voorafgaand aan de voorstelling kun je lekker eten in deze brasserie. De bediening is vriendelijk en correct, de entourage is gezellig. We kozen het driegangenmenu. Goed van kwaliteit maar echt te kleine porties. Het hoofdgerecht in het menu is een kleinere portie dan het los bestelde gerecht. Bij een 5 of 6 gangen menu snap ik dat. Nu was het echt te weinig en ben je eigenlijk genoodzaakt apart frites bij te bestellen. De merlot huiswijn was heerlijk. Je jas wordt keurig getransporteerd naar de centrale garderobe waar je hem na de voorstelling kunt ophalen.

Van een instituut als de Koninklijke Schouwburg verwacht je dat ze ook de kwaliteit van het theaterrestaurant onder controle hebben. Dat is niet het geval. De kwaliteit is bedroevend. Het voorgerecht omvat paar stukjes doorbakken eendeborst met beetje koolsla zonder smaak. De zalm wordt vrijwel rauw opgediend, met een heel klein beetje puree en nauwelijks groente. Daar ben je binnen twee minuten klaar mee. Het nagerecht een zompig stukje appel en een minuscuul ijsbolletje. In de directe omgeving van de Schouwburg zijn ongetwijfeld beter restaurants te vinden en goedkoper ook..

Het theatermenu viel tegen, de prijs nog veel meer. We hadden alle drie een gevoel van: jammer van onze keuze en van ons geld.
