One of our favourite restaurants in town, great seasonal food and nice service in a cool location - very good wine list as well!

A wonderful experience. We had the best service, the waiter knew exactly what we needed even before we did. It felt personal and comforting. The 4 course chef’s menu was a delight for the palate. The Austrian wine paired perfectly with the meal.

The VRR is set in a 19th-century hall of the NL Shipbuilding Company, now given in true Amsterdam style the flair of a carefully/ carelessly curated Insta story. The menu looked promising, so we opted for the five-course tasting and entrusted the choices to the chef. Service is quick, very friendly, genuinely attentive and as varied as a relay race, since each course comes with a new acquaintance. Personal it is not, but, as they say, teamwork makes the dream work. There’s a little wine section, where one can indeed find something . Water and wine arrived, followed by the house bread witch so good it set a standard the kitchen bravely tried to live up to. Courses followed at a good pace. They were ambitious, though not without the charm of ambition sometimes outstripping execution. As for the price point, it’s pitched a little higher than where the kitchen has quite arrived. All in all, we enjoyed a relaxed and genuinely lovely evening at the VRR.

The vegetables are incredible, fresh from local farmers. Location is very unique with matriculate details of old barns. Would highly recommend sin if here with friends. Very casual and open atmosphere.

New interesting spot in Amsterdam, which were opened by me accidentally. But this is really authentic place with home made food, really delicious, and good wine. Recommend to visit. Girl who served us was extremely positive and nice. It is rarely you can meet such a good service in Netherlands. Kitchen is open, so you can see all process of cooking. They have really good and big choice of natural wines, biological and aromatic.

I had some friends visiting from abroad and we went to VRR for a celebration dinner. We absolutely loved everything about our evening; the food was delicious, interesting, and seasonal, the atmosphere was cool and special without being stuffy, and the service was friendly and attentive. One of my favourite spots in Amsterdam for a nice dinner or drink. Can't wait to go back and highly recommend!!

A beautiful, atmospheric restaurant with friendly staff. Perfect for a moment of relaxation. The menu offers delicious sandwiches, although I found some a bit pricey, but luckily there are also a few good options under ten euros. One small drawback: the egg in the egg soldier was a bit overcooked, and they forgot to bring something. That seemed a bit sloppy. But all in all, definitely recommended, and I'd love to come back!

We stopped in here twice on a recent holiday. The first time, drawn in by the atmosphere we just stopped for a drink and a snack (the cheese is amazing!) and it was so nice we came back for a full meal later in the week. The staff were lovely, really welcoming and inviting. The atmosphere is very laid back, they don't rush you, it's a really quirky building and has a good buzz. The food is amazing. Every single thing we had was perfect, beautifully cooked, nicely presented. The portions were a nice size and the flavors worked really well together. I'm currently working out how soon we can go back to Amsterdam just to eat here!

Love the atmosphere, bakery by day turned into a place to eat at night. We stayed locally and stumbled across this place and really enjoyed our stay. The service, food top notch. Especially we ordered the sausage and the sauce amazing. The red mullet with crispy chicken skin was second fav.

Energised crew, beautifully presented plates. We had trout, chicory with lardo, red mullet with chicken skin, asparagus in nettle sauce, all interesting plates and also more down to earth food like lamb with jus and smoked trout. A good wine list too.

Interesting new discovery for me. I like their way of cooking, especially vegetables. I am not a vegetarian but I love the way they prepare vegetarian dishes.

It's very, very good, the welcome and the service are perfect but the place is a little noisy. On the other hand, very poor value for money, it's 26 euros per lamb dish for 2 thin slices of lamb and a small quantity of accompaniments. The taste is there but the quantity is clearly not enough. If you're hungry, refrain!

They have their own style of cooking with a lot of attention for vegetables and fresh local ingredients. Also the wine selection, mainly bio or nature, is very interesting, we had a wine from Italy made from the Pecorino grape It is located in the historic building from 1895 and was used as a staff canteen and laundry room by the Nederlandsche Scheepsbouw-Maatschappij. We really enjoyed it and will definitely go back soon

Enjoyed a fantastic vegetarian 5 course meal. Beautiful, rough location too.

Had dinner at VRR last night. Nice, cozy interior. Our vegetarian 3-course menu was tasty. A bit pricey for what was on the plate. But still tasty overall. Waiting staff was very sympathetic. But then that music... When we entered, the volume knob was immediately turned. Higher, that is. Why exactly? At that time we were the first customers in the business. I immediately asked the nearest staff member if this could perhaps be turned down more softly. This man, unclear whether this was perhaps the manager, looked at us indifferently and condescendingly (a far from friendly reception...) and said that the volume would be lowered a little later. Why not directly? But that didn't happen. Part of the VRR concept? Unknown. Quite irritating. During dinner, when we could barely hear each other properly, we asked three times if the volume could be turned down. That was done initially. But every time, after a few minutes, the volume went up again. It remained unclear who was responsible for this. Possibly the gentleman who did not speak to us so kindly in the beginning?

A very nice place with really tasty food from pure ingredients. The wine list is also excellent. And of course the bread from our own bakery!

Walking into this place gave me a surprise as the state of maintenance leaves you to wonder. Paint has bladdered of the wooden beams in the ceiling and mold is visible on the walls. My hopes were that the food would make me forget about the above, but nothing was less true. The food was quite bland, but the surprise was when we ordered some oysters. When still chewing on the oyster my eye catches a wurm crawling on the oyster shell. All in all, not a good experience.

Not sure why reviews are low. This is one of my regular and favorites dining places in Amsterdam. Tasty food and great wine selections.

Very cozy, almost vintage bakery shop where you can buy top campaign bread (the rye/wheat is divinely delicious!), but you can also relax on site or on the outdoor terrace with a sandwich and/or a small cake with accompanying coffee. Don't forget to get acquainted with the jars of jam (black blueberries!) from an organic farmer from the region....

Top location, top food at a reasonable price, highly recommended

So, unfortunately do not recommend. I ordered the pike-perch dish which came as two separate pieces of fish instead of the whole fish you see in the pictures. Should be fine, except the second piece seemed to be undercooked. I had eaten (and enjoyed) the dish until then. I got sick during the night after this meal. My boyfriend didn’t so it was definitely the fish. It’s sad because the flavor of the dish was very nice and my bf enjoyed his gnocchi a lot. Otherwise the service was okay, they forgot to bring out our bread and sometimes the music choices disturbed the ambiance. (Very loud hard rock suddenly). The experience wasn’t worth 85€ and puking all night.

A Disastrous Dining Debacle: restaurant RRV in Amsterdam Fails to Deliver As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry since 1983 and holds a deep passion for culinary arts, I am no stranger to fine dining. However, my recent experience at RRV restaurant Amsterdam was nothing short of disastrous. From the moment we stepped inside, it was clear that this establishment fell far short of expectations. A Setting Ripe for Disaster The restaurant's interior was in a state of disrepair. The kitchen, visible from our table, was shockingly dirty and disorganised. Most alarmingly, we noticed evidence of mold on the walls, raising serious concerns about the overall hygiene and maintenance of the establishment. An Unacceptable Culinary Misstep After an agonising wait of 1.5 hours, our main course finally arrived: barbecued Pike-perch with celeriac and beurre rouge. Anticipation quickly turned to dismay when I discovered the fish was raw. The first bite confirmed my fears; it was not only undercooked but also terribly unpalatable. A Chef Without Remorse Appalled by this unacceptable culinary error, we decided to leave immediately. On our way out, we attempted to address the issue with the chef, explaining that the fish was raw. His response was shockingly dismissive: "You tell me what you want, I have nothing to say!" He then abruptly turned his back and retreated to his kitchen. A Costly and Disappointing Affair This entire ordeal cost us 85 euros, a hefty price to pay for a meal we couldn't even stomach. The chef's unprofessional behaviour and the restaurant's unsanitary conditions compounded the disappointment. As someone familiar with the standards set by culinary giants like Escoffier, I can confidently say that RRV restaurant Amsterdam fails to meet even the most basic expectations of a respectable dining establishment. A Word of Caution Based on this experience, I strongly advise against patronising restaurant RRV in Amsterdam. Diners deserve far better than raw fish, a dirty kitchen, and a chef who shows no regard for customer satisfaction. The owner mr. Sander was present and know it was something terribly wrong. We visited that restaurant Saturday 19 October 2024 for dinner.

We were nicely surprised about the food. The combination of flavour was absolutely amazing. The staffs was nice and friendly. A Must!

Most amazing place and food in Amsterdam

What's going on here?? After all the rave reviews two years ago from Parool, Bart, Gault Millau and others, has there been a palace revolution within the kitchen team? Now in autumn, the outdoor ambiance is more than ever a sign of sad desolation. Fortunately, the atmosphere/decor/lighting/music remains unchanged and pleasant. And the organic wine range is an example of dedication and vision. But the bottle prices for simple liquids are higher than ever/elsewhere, and even the few house wines have sold quite a few times over. Decided on: the generous wine glasses in which everything is poured. But where inspired and fairly refined rural dishes were once served, the level is now that of take-away dishes from an average butcher's shop with a ready-made counter. You can taste the disinterest. And when, after consuming the gnochi dish (soggy and where are the promised chanterelles?) one has to get up at night to take a stop tablet, it ominously underlines that something has gone off the rails in the kitchen. Would you still like to end with a successful expresso macchiato? No, we only have filter coffee here, the simple answer is......Imaginable!

Lovely outdoor garden and industrial indoor seating. The selection of natural wines is really good and the Spanish host in particular knows how to suggest accordingly with the food ordered. Good spot also for an after dinner.

At the beginning we were not sure about the spot since it got okish reviews but now we’re kinda shocked with the low ratings, since this spot is amazing! 1st the space is beautiful!! The service was friendly, fast and all around fantastic! Our server was sweet and helpful. The food is delicious and original! Honestly highly recommended great spot very solid. Thank you 🙏❤️

We passed by and something about the look and the vibe from the outside seemed promising. After stepping in and looking at the space and the menu, we decided to have dinner here. All the expectations came true and everything fell into place - the design, atmosphere, wine list and food all came together to a great experience. We both vegetarian and had a good amount of options. Having some dishes being modified to vegetarian, it ended up being a fully satisfying dinner, with seasonal original plates, great sourdough bread and attentive friendly service. Both me and my partner (Visiting from New York) think that the reviews here aren’t doing this place any justice. Just go and see for yourself. I’m a chef. I’m happy.

Nice place with interesting dishes. Food was okay, 5 course chef's menu, overall fine, but the coherence was occasionally lacking and not all dishes were equally well balanced. The salt fish, for example, was a nice dish but really too salty. The bean dish was superb! Service was Amsterdam friendly, but there were many new people with little knowledge. Wine list was okay but not quite what we expected.

Delicious fine dining in an unpretentious setting, with a lovely terrace and easy going staff. The desserts are also very very lekker!

Gr8 place. Amazing food But the fish needs some rice with angels hair. Nevertheless the Spanish waiter was the best host. If you want a great experience without rice and you are in the area you should definitely come here. Is where the locals come a lot of friendly Dutch families

Vegan restaurant, you have to know better if you want to eat meat... quite pleasant staff but extremely long service (perhaps due to the fact that we asked for dishes with meat 😀)! The number of stars is in relation to the fact that we were unable to find somewhere specified the specific vegan one before sitting down at the table and having the drinks.

Easter lunch 2024. It was the third time for both of us that we ate at VRR, so we were already prepared for loud music, but we thought the system was a bit too loud for lunch. Food was disappointing; the menu lacked body and a story. Five courses that are not excessive, including two courses with wafer-thinly sliced ​​asparagus. First course, bread with hollandaise sauce and wild garlic, was served together with a vegetarian sausage roll: not a good combination. We felt that with our vegetarian menus we were worse off than our neighbors who ate meat. The low point was the few slices of boiled daikon on a drop of sauce, while the carnivorous neighbors were enjoying an exciting-looking dish with lamb. For the vegetarian menu the value for money was not good. Furthermore, the service was a bit sloppy, there was sometimes little, sometimes a lot of time between courses. When the DJ played 'Spanish Bombs' by The Clash (a song about spoiled tourists who seem to have forgotten the horrors of the Spanish Civil War), it became clear to me. There we were, with a bill of 150 euros for two mediocre lunches. We should have simply given that money to a humanitarian cause.

We found this restaurant by chance, we were lucky. A pleasant place, with kind and friendly staff (taking into account our very scholastic English we managed to understand each other and create a good feeling) with NON-TOURISTIC cuisine. A well-attended place, the dishes are perhaps not presented as the chefs would ask, but with very good combinations. Thank you.

You won't find many like VRR in Amsterdam. On fleek dishes, the staff was great and the music + sound was good! Definitely come back.

This was our first evening in Amsterdam and the food, the atmosphere and the service were amazing! A little more expensive than we had planned for our first nights budget but honestly so worth it if you have the option. Our staff all spoke excellent English and accommodated us throughout. I spent the whole time just soaking in the atmosphere of the slower pace of dining and drinking that Europe seems to do so much better than we do in the UK. Not sure if locals would agree but as a tourist I strongly recommend this as an evening stop and try the chefs tasting menu!

The food is really good, varied and surprising. Really good dishes with nice ingredients, lots of vegetables. So much for the positive experience. We ate here a few weeks ago with a group of 6 people. Never in my life have I encountered such poor and downright rude service. After finishing a bottle of undrinkable wine, we asked the waitress if she had a suggestion for a bottle that had less typical natural wine taste characteristics (stable/farm - rotting wood - dead animals). How dare we ask... by God's grace we could get a bottle for "our kind of people, mostly elderly people who don't understand natural wine" (her words). The atmosphere at the table was... gone. Too bad, but we will NEVER go back here again.

What a good place, beautiful space, and relaxed atmosphere. Also to just have a drink at the bar. We have again! super tasty food, creative dishes, surprising combinations and everything in balance. Portions a bit larger than a year ago, very nice if you are seriously hungry! The friendly and professional service knows how to recommend good wine with the dishes. The orange wine “Pepin” on tap is especially recommended. We'll be back soon!

Really good restaurant. Waiting staff is super nice, friendly and knowledgeable about the food. The food itself is amazing as well. If you want to go out and have a good time or celebrate an occasion this is the place to go!

Amazing food, drinks, people and atmosphere

My favorite restaurant in Amsterdam at the moment. Everything is correct and it is delicious.

Delicious food several times and a fantastic atmosphere. Completely authentic. ANYWAY, have the eggnog with whipped cream.

The list Is quite long, but let me start with a dog in the kitchen (a customer with a dog walked into the kitchen and talked with the cook). Ah, a waitress touched the dog with the hands that she used to serve our food. Then, we asked for a plate to share our main course but they said no (no? Why not?). The food, you asked? Is it important the food now? Yes, you Say? Mah.. it is not so bad but good Is something different. Really different.

Don’t go here! We had a bad experience at VRR. Although the dishes were tasty and the staff was friendly, our evening was spoilt because it took 3 hours before all 4 courses were served. I literally had to ask the staff 4 times when the next course would arrive. There was an hour between the first and second course (both very small portions). Also the acoustics are terrible. So if you go here sit at the bar and order a main course! Note that they only do organic wines, which you need to be able to appreciate.

VRR is used to be my place to be, always bring friends here and everyone seems to love how creative the food is. ( Breads are amazing! ) However, I went back a month ago and things seem to change. A dish we ordered was very salty. We couldn’t finish. The waiters were always friendly and helpful, which seem to change as well. Still very beautiful restaurant tho. I really hope it goes back to be the place it’s used to be. I’d love to go back!

On Saturday, 5 people ordered almost all dishes on the menu to share. Price-quality very below par. The costs for these mediocre tasting small portions are really excessive. Unfortunately we also had to wait a very long time between dishes. Furthermore, a very nice place to sit with good wines and excellent service.

The chef(s) really knows their stuff. The staff was on top of everything, super friendly, and knew their way around the menu. Mooi restaurant met natuurlijke producten, bediening was in het Engels maar de sfeer en het eten was heerlijk.

Zoals altijd weer heerlijk gegeten, met hele goede bijpassende wijnen. Eten, service, sfeer: allemaal 5 sterren. Waarom dan tóch een totaal van 4 sterren? Vanwege de koffie: er is alleen (vieze) filterkoffie. Hoe is het toch mogelijk dat een restaurant géén espressomachine heeft, echt een minpunt.

The place and the atmosphere are really nice and cozy. We had the 4 courses “surprise” menu and the food was great! One of the best restaurant experience I ve had in a very long time.

Kwam langs voor een toetje en een cocktail. Personeel was vriendelijk, maar het toetje smaakte niet goed. Leek te hebben geschift. De espresso martini smaakte vooral naar vodka. Jammer!

Een gezellige avond met vriendinnen gehad. Leuke inrichting en goede locatie in oost. Het eten was lekker maar de meeste gerechten waren erg klein. We moesten lang wachten op de 2e reeks gerechten. De service was vriendelijk maar ze zouden meer de zaak kunnen rondkijken of ze mensen kunnen helpen. Nu meerdere keren contact geprobeerd te maken zonder positief resultaat. Prima avond maar weet niet of ik nog een keer terugkom.

VRR is a nice option around Czaar Peterstraat, just off the main road. The building is cool and is well laid out. Staff are really friendly and helpful too. The wine selection is diverse and the bottle we had was very nice. Food is pretty good overall. Most dishes on the chef's menu were tasty and well-cooked, although the dessert (pancake-based) was a little bland. Unfortunately, the bread was totally stale which is doubly disappointing given the connection between the restaurant and the great bakery next door. I've had bread from there so I know they can do it well. Pricing overall was good and VRR is a nice night out, so would come again for sure, just hope for fresh bread next time!

Prachtige ruimte! Vriendelijke bediening. Helaas toch een negatieve review. We hadden het menu gekozen, zowel met vlees/vis als het vegetarische menu. Het is een verrassing dus heb ik zelf geïnformeerd of er schelpdieren inzaten, hetgeen het geval bleek! Ik zou dat te allen tijden vermelden op de kaart met symbolen, omdat veel mensen daar niet tegen kunnen. Als vervanging het vegetarische tussengerecht, gnocchi met geitenkaas. Erg deegballerig, zwaar en laffe smaak. De rauwe vis vond ik onsmakelijk. Vervolgens kregen we buikspek met groente erbovenop. Deze bestond vooral uit heel veel slap vet. Het vegetarische menu was erg simpel, veel sla, niet verrassend. Weinig ook! Er was alleen filterkoffie te bestellen. Deze werd in een glazen kannetje geserveerd en leek op waterige thee. Kortgezegd, zeker de prijs NIET waard. We hebben helaas 45 min op het toetje moeten wachten terwijl we hadden aangegeven weg te moeten, het was denk ik te druk! Daardoor te laat op afspraak. De toiletten passen niet bij het leuke interieur! Het toetje was heerlijk gelukkig! Geen aanrader dit restaurant!!

Het is met spijt in het hart dat ik een negatieve recensie schrijf over ons recente bezoek aan restaurant VRR in Amsterdam. Helaas was onze ervaring op deze avond allesbehalve bevredigend. Bij aankomst kregen we een onverwacht kille ontvangst van een van de bedieningsmedewerkers. Zijn gedrag was kortaf en niet bepaald gastvrij, wat onmiddellijk een ongemakkelijke sfeer over de hele avond legde. Als gast verwacht je dat je met respect en vriendelijkheid wordt behandeld, helaas was dit in VRR niet het geval. Na onze eerste teleurstelling leken de zaken even te verbeteren toen we eindelijk onze drankjes konden bestellen. Helaas duurde dit optimisme niet lang. We kregen heel even een seconde aandacht om hapjes te bestellen maar zonder ons de kans te geven ons hoofdgerecht te bestellen. Na herhaaldelijk aandringen, konden we uiteindelijk ons hoofdgerecht bestellen. Dit werd echter overschaduwd door de onbeschofte houding van de dame die onze bestelling opnam. Opnieuw werden we geconfronteerd met een niveau van onbeleefdheid dat volledig onaanvaardbaar is in een restaurant van dit kaliber. Een avondje uit zou een plezierige ervaring moeten zijn, maar bij VRR was dit absoluut niet het geval. Het personeel heeft duidelijk een gebrek aan training in klantenservice en beleefdheid, wat resulteerde in een onbevredigende en onaangename ervaring voor ons. Het is teleurstellend om een dergelijke beoordeling achter te laten, vooral gezien de reputatie van VRR. Echter, gebaseerd op onze recente ervaring, zullen we dit restaurant niet aanbevelen aan anderen. Het is onze hoop dat het management van VRR deze kritiek ter harte neemt en verbeteringen aanbrengt om toekomstige gasten een betere ervaring te bieden.
