Brother, since Turks liked it so much, we thought there must be a reason. After all, fried chicken is something we have here. Forget about going and eating it directly; there were even fried chickens you ordered from Trendyol that you liked more. It's not worth it.

I don't know how many times I've been here, but it's a place I go to regularly, and I think their chicken is delicious. But it's not just the chicken; they also have their own unique sauces, and they're all very nice, especially the pickled onions, which I love. The staff are friendly, and the service is fast.

What a lovely place this is to eat a super tender chicken! The sweet potato puree is also highly recommended. The Caesar salad is also a top dish with delicious crispy chicken on top. Richly filled and fresh. The price-quality ratio is excellent! Prompt and very friendly service. You cannot make reservations here, but if you make sure to arrive before opening time, you can pick out a spot. The outdoor terrace is nice. I will definitely come back here!

We used to love eating here. But not anymore and this is the last time we come unfortunately. At one time we thought this was the best chicken ever, however the last few times it hasn’t hit the mark. Anyone to recommend another chicken restaurant?

Went here again yesterday after not having been there for a while (normally order in). Food was really tasteful, service could be slightly improved as well as the menu for non alcoholic drinks.

I really liked the fried chicken, and the hamburger was delicious too, but I'm not sure if there's anything to rave about. My husband said the chicken tasted like cafeteria chicken 😂

Excellent chicken at a very nice price.

Easily the best rotisserie chicken spor in Amsterdam. The chicken is juicy and tender with the beautiful crispy skin that you get from an open flame. The sides are excellent - amazing fries and very tasty coleslaw. All in all an elevated experience when you factor in the sauces - homemade bbq and ketchup and a really interesting spicy sauce if you like it hot.

We visited this restaurant twice in a row during our trip to Amsterdam and were very pleased. However, on the last visit, the chicken was cooked too quickly, and we ended up with a raw piece. This wasn't pleasant. Chicken is a food that requires a lot of care, and raw chicken is very dangerous. That's why I deducted one star. But they make a fantastic Caesar salad. Still, it was a nice experience. Thank you.

I dined at Van 't Spit twice over the weekend of January 16-18, 2026. The restaurant is small and very welcoming, with just a few tables. Service is quick, and the staff is friendly and efficient. The menu, of course, focuses on marinated, grilled chicken. I've never had better chicken: tender and flavorful (even the breast). The grilled buttered corn on the cob and the fried chicken nuggets are not to be missed. Van 't Spit is definitely worth a visit, and my wife and I will definitely be back.

The food was amazing, ordered via UBEREATS and i could not believe how juicy the roasted chicken was. It was practically glistening with its juices. I ordered the corn, it was so so so sweet and roasted to perfection. I got some chips to go with the roasted chicken, it was abit soggy when it came but still acceptable. The coleslaw was not up to my liking, tasted a little bitter - not sure if it was intentional. But overall the juicy chicken and the corn made up for everything!

Never disappoints, been a fan for a long time would definitely recommend to get the chicken, green salad and the mashed sweet potatoes and the brownieee!!

Van 't Spit was always excellent, especially in the Pijp. My experience at this restaurant was less so this time. The chicken was burnt, and the place was filled with smoke due to poor ventilation above the grill.

We discovered it on our third visit to Amsterdam and were very pleased. I wish we'd come sooner and tried things we missed today. The chicken cooked over charcoal was so tender, the taste is still lingering on my palate as I write this. I highly recommend it, especially for couples, because it's a wonderful place with a small, cozy, and dim atmosphere.

Their chicken is really delicious and don't forget to ask for the bread, they have incredibly good bread!

I love this restaurant. They specialise in chicken and are brilliant at it! Plus it is fantastic to watch your dinner being cooked! Every time I visit Amsterdam my family and I eat here and I have been coming for years. The food is excellent. The staff are so friendly, happy and welcoming. And I enjoy the atmosphere.

I usually like this place and visit often - and if not order home at least once a week. This time the fries were nearly all broken, over-fried, dry, crumbly, and mostly crust with little to none potato. It felt like the bottom of the batch or left overs in the fryer made it into our box. I’m hoping this was a one-off thing, a quick quality check before packing would be nice!!! I also know that Uber shows that a person is a frequent customer when an order from the account comes in so I would have expexted a bit more effort is put to a loyal customer. Really hope it doesn’t happen again.

What a fantastic restaurant! They make delicious skewered chicken here! Perfectly seasoned and wonderfully juicy right off the grill. An absolute must for lovers of truly well-prepared skewered chicken. The homemade applesauce is to die for... fresh, slightly sweet, and full of flavor. The fries are also freshly made, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside...just the way they should be! What makes this restaurant extra special is that everything is prepared fresh and halal. You can taste the quality and care in every dish. A place where you can confidently enjoy honest, flavorful food in a relaxed atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit! We will definitely be back!

Been eating here for years, this chicken used to be the best. For the last times, the chicken has been less flavorful and worse… very dry. The team was also not attentive, I had to remind about the bill 3 times and ended up paying at the bar. Sadly this place seems not to be what it used to

I have returned to eat at Van't Spit. Standard is still very good as the best grilled chicken in the world. Writing to support them as they closed the other outlets in Amsterdam. This is the only outlet left in Amsterdam. Do support them.

We came in for an early dinner and the restaurant was empty aside from a family of four sitting outside. We were directed to sit anywhere, since the inside air was thick with the charcol, we opted for one of the outside tables. Food was delivered promptly, we had side salad with a tasty house dressing and chicken. Chicken was tasty, though a bit dry. From the reviews, I was expecting more. We were rushing through since the wasps were relentless, when a party of young couples came in. Although, only one other table came in during our meal the party seemed to struggle with where to sit. Next thing we know a server comes out to inform us they had all other tables reserved, and we'd need to share our table. Then in a super snarky way, let us know that in Amsterdam they share tables, even if "where we come from, they don't" Really? Then why aren't you sharing all those empty tables that now have reserved signs on them? So this party essentially took over our table, moving all our stuff and encroaching deeply on our space, turning their chairs so their backs were up against us, and we were pushing against the brick wall. Talking loudly, and certainly not to us. While we understand the current international feelings towards Americans is iffy, we're really really friendly and would have welcomed conversation. This wasn't about sharing a table, this was about taking our table despite being customers too. So beware, if you're traveling, the sentiment here is perhaps not so friendly towards foreign tourists. We didn't experience this anywhere else in Amsterdam.

Dopo averlo assaggiato ci chiediamo "ma la gente a cosa è abituata?". Cominciamo dal prezzo,assurdo! Per un pollo di dimensioni medie,32 euro veramente esagerato. Contorni ovviamente a parte sulle 5-6 euro per porzioni piccole. Il pollo viene cotto allo spiedo,non è speziato, la pelle del pollo non viene croccante,unica nota di merito (forse per quello la gente lo ritiene ottimo) la parte interna rimane morbida ma perché lo servono a cottura appena dopo il crudo,una sorta di bassa temperatura per capirci. Servizio tranquillo, prezzo acqua da deserto del Sahara.

First, they make you wait for about two hours to receive your order, and when you arrive, you realize the price of the products doesn't match the quality. We ordered chicken for 32 euros and truffle and cheese fries for 7 euros. I've never seen anything so small in my life. It didn't have any breast meat and seemed incomplete, raw inside, and the fries didn't come with truffles or cheese. Getting the bill was another delay. Don't come back.

Seriously a MUST if visiting Amsterdam. They serve up the BEST open flame grilled chicken , EVER ! Generous portions , easy and relaxed dining. Sides are fabulous too ! Staff is super friendly and service great👍. We never miss the opportunity to eat at Van 't Spit and always ensure to include this in our trips. Go ! You won't be disappointed.

The food was very good, you can sit outside so that the smell doesn't get to you. Everyone was very attentive, we were pleased.

Chicken is delicious but the rest of the food was a bit of a fail. Cold and dry corn! Cold sweet potato, small portion of coleslaw!!! Totally understaffed! No attention to our table even though it wasn’t that busy! Had to wait ages to take order and then didnt come to check if we needed another drink. Had to try hard to get waiters attention. He was literally chilling behind the bar chatting to the guys at the grill. We were sitting near the door and delivery guys were coming in and out every few mins which was irritating to say the least. We had booked a table so it would have been nice to be seated somewhere else. It’s a high price to pay for cheap service!

Always good here. Just delicious chicken from the spit, good beers and friendly staff. Also with a high chair no problem. Our daughter eats her fingers off when we order a whole chicken. Recommended for a relaxed, tasty evening!

This is fav place in Amsterdam. Onion souse is the best. I bring my every guest to this place in their first day at town. So far, all liked it.

Excellent dans un cadre rustique et chaleureux. Ambiance cosy le soir avec une bonne musique de fond. Beaucoup de locaux. Sur leur site internet il est expliqué l'origine et la qualité des poulets. La viande est tendre et fondante. Ne pas hésiter à demander le type de cuisson. Les frites sont délicieuses et l'épi de maïs grillé se mange tout seul. Les tarifs sont dans la moyenne de ce qui se pratique à Amsterdam ce qui peut paraitre un poil cher pour un français. Un restaurant local à faire, ne serais-ce que pour changer de la multitude de restaurants italiens, coréens, japonais et turcs.

Siamo andati per provare il pollo arrosto, dopo aver letto le recensioni positive: locale piccolo con tavolini anche esterni, servizio veloce. Mai mangiato un pollo arrosto così tenero, era davvero un burro! Buonissimo! Bravo il cuoco. Consigliatissimo anche per il costo.

Without exaggeration, I would say the best chicken I have ever eaten. The taste is great and above all the meat melts in the mouth, the quality is very high. The service and the place are nice and make you feel comfortable. Really super recommended!

Love this place. But hey, why do they only serve half chickens now? If you want a whole one, you gotta order two halves? That didn’t use to be the case. What happened? Anyway, still worth it. The chicken is great, but honestly, the real sleeper hit here? The salad. Second best thing on the menu, hands down. I beg you guys to start selling yuca(casava) and then you will get closer to the Caribbean flavor I miss in this city.

Queríamos probar algo de comida local de pollo y encontramos este lugar en la web. Caminamos allí desde la estación central durante unos 40 minutos a través de varios barrios muy agradables y seguros. No es un lugar turístico y estaba lleno de lugareños. Para mí es la mejor señal de la calidad. El restaurante es pequeño, así como el menú. Es pollo y hamburguesas de pollo. Pedimos el primero. Es bastante caro - más de 30 euros para 1 pollo entero, pero está bien para dos personas. El personal era increíble - uno de los mejores que hemos visto.

I’m writing this review on the 54th minute of waiting for my order yes, it’s been 54 minutes since I ordered, and now I’ve just found out it’ll take a minimum of 45 to 50 minutes. And when we asked, they told us that 45–50 minutes is normal… Is this a joke? It’s my first time here. I already thought the place was overrated, but decided to give it a try. There are only 22 tables in total (inside and outside combined), yet there are just two people working in the open kitchen. There are also around 6 or 7 Uber orders waiting to be prepared. Honestly, by the time I finally get my food after waiting a whole hourit will have lost all meaning or enjoyment for me. After take the foods * Everything we ate was delicious we really enjoyed it. The chicken was a bit salty for me, though.

We were always forgotten or they just walked past us despite speaking to us. It was very cold outside and yet the outside door had to remain open. Despite repeatedly stating that we were very cold. Very unfortunate. The food was very tasty.

Van 't Spit is no longer what it used to be, which is a shame For €35 I ordered (via Uber Eats) half a chicken, fries and crunchy chicken. What did I get? Tough, lukewarm meat that was long past its prime. No juiciness, no flavor, just rubber. I couldn't choose a sauce on the site, so I politely asked for it with my order. Didn't get a drop. For €35 you expect at least a little service, but no. Van 't Spit was once great, but this? Lukewarm chicken, zero attention, no service. Shame. I don't have to come back here anymore.

They cook chicken on charcoal. I haven't seen chicken this well cooked and not dried out while cooking in a long time. It was very juicy inside. They put barbecue sauce on the chicken. Maybe it might bother you. Other than that it was great. Half a chicken can easily feed one person.

We had a really unpleasant experience with both the food service and billing. First, our orders took nearly an hour to arrive, and we had to follow up to finally get them. Then, we were charged incorrectly, with the bill being 10 euros higher due to drinks we never ordered. Whether it was an intentional overcharge or a genuine mistake, the poor service made the whole experience very uncomfortable. Please make sure to double-check your bill before paying, and I hope they improve their service if this wasn’t an intentional oversight, especially for expats.
