Siamo venuti in questo posto attirati dalle recensioni che ne decantavano le lodi,parlando del miglior pollo che ci fosse sulla terra. Dopo averlo assaggiato ci chiediamo "ma la gente a cosa è abituata?". Cominciamo dal prezzo,assurdo! Per un pollo di dimensioni medie,32 euro veramente esagerato. Contorni ovviamente a parte sulle 5-6 euro per porzioni piccole. Il pollo viene cotto allo spiedo,non è speziato, la pelle del pollo non viene croccante,unica nota di merito (forse per quello la gente lo ritiene ottimo) la parte interna rimane morbida ma perché lo servono a cottura appena dopo il crudo,una sorta di bassa temperatura per capirci. Servizio tranquillo, prezzo acqua da deserto del Sahara.

First, they make you wait for about two hours to receive your order, and when you arrive, you realize the price of the products doesn't match the quality. We ordered chicken for 32 euros and truffle and cheese fries for 7 euros. I've never seen anything so small in my life. It didn't have any breast meat and seemed incomplete, raw inside, and the fries didn't come with truffles or cheese. Getting the bill was another delay. Don't come back.

Seriously a MUST if visiting Amsterdam. They serve up the BEST open flame grilled chicken , EVER ! Generous portions , easy and relaxed dining. Sides are fabulous too ! Staff is super friendly and service great👍. We never miss the opportunity to eat at Van 't Spit and always ensure to include this in our trips. Go ! You won't be disappointed.

Very tasty roast chicken! The meat was tender and moist, and very well marinated. I highly recommend the corn too. Would definitely return.

The food was very good, you can sit outside so that the smell doesn't get to you. Everyone was very attentive, we were pleased.

Chicken is delicious but the rest of the food was a bit of a fail. Cold and dry corn! Cold sweet potato, small portion of coleslaw!!! Totally understaffed! No attention to our table even though it wasn’t that busy! Had to wait ages to take order and then didnt come to check if we needed another drink. Had to try hard to get waiters attention. He was literally chilling behind the bar chatting to the guys at the grill. We were sitting near the door and delivery guys were coming in and out every few mins which was irritating to say the least. We had booked a table so it would have been nice to be seated somewhere else. It’s a high price to pay for cheap service!

Always good here. Just delicious chicken from the spit, good beers and friendly staff. Also with a high chair no problem. Our daughter eats her fingers off when we order a whole chicken. Recommended for a relaxed, tasty evening!

Every time I eat kip I feel very bad with my stomach unfortunately

This is fav place in Amsterdam. Onion souse is the best. I bring my every guest to this place in their first day at town. So far, all liked it.

Excellent dans un cadre rustique et chaleureux. Ambiance cosy le soir avec une bonne musique de fond. Beaucoup de locaux. Sur leur site internet il est expliqué l'origine et la qualité des poulets. La viande est tendre et fondante. Ne pas hésiter à demander le type de cuisson. Les frites sont délicieuses et l'épi de maïs grillé se mange tout seul. Les tarifs sont dans la moyenne de ce qui se pratique à Amsterdam ce qui peut paraitre un poil cher pour un français. Un restaurant local à faire, ne serais-ce que pour changer de la multitude de restaurants italiens, coréens, japonais et turcs.

Siamo andati per provare il pollo arrosto, dopo aver letto le recensioni positive: locale piccolo con tavolini anche esterni, servizio veloce. Mai mangiato un pollo arrosto così tenero, era davvero un burro! Buonissimo! Bravo il cuoco. Consigliatissimo anche per il costo.

They are good at taking it slow, it takes an hour and a half before they are ready via Uber Eats.

Without exaggeration, I would say the best chicken I have ever eaten. The taste is great and above all the meat melts in the mouth, the quality is very high. The service and the place are nice and make you feel comfortable. Really super recommended!

Love this place. But hey, why do they only serve half chickens now? If you want a whole one, you gotta order two halves? That didn’t use to be the case. What happened? Anyway, still worth it. The chicken is great, but honestly, the real sleeper hit here? The salad. Second best thing on the menu, hands down. I beg you guys to start selling yuca(casava) and then you will get closer to the Caribbean flavor I miss in this city.

Queríamos probar algo de comida local de pollo y encontramos este lugar en la web. Caminamos allí desde la estación central durante unos 40 minutos a través de varios barrios muy agradables y seguros. No es un lugar turístico y estaba lleno de lugareños. Para mí es la mejor señal de la calidad. El restaurante es pequeño, así como el menú. Es pollo y hamburguesas de pollo. Pedimos el primero. Es bastante caro - más de 30 euros para 1 pollo entero, pero está bien para dos personas. El personal era increíble - uno de los mejores que hemos visto.

I’m writing this review on the 54th minute of waiting for my order yes, it’s been 54 minutes since I ordered, and now I’ve just found out it’ll take a minimum of 45 to 50 minutes. And when we asked, they told us that 45–50 minutes is normal… Is this a joke? It’s my first time here. I already thought the place was overrated, but decided to give it a try. There are only 22 tables in total (inside and outside combined), yet there are just two people working in the open kitchen. There are also around 6 or 7 Uber orders waiting to be prepared. Honestly, by the time I finally get my food after waiting a whole hourit will have lost all meaning or enjoyment for me. After take the foods * Everything we ate was delicious we really enjoyed it. The chicken was a bit salty for me, though.

We ate a whole chicken, parmesan potatoes and coleslaw. The chicken was really delicious and tender because it was cooked over coal fire. The employees were also interested.

We were always forgotten or they just walked past us despite speaking to us. It was very cold outside and yet the outside door had to remain open. Despite repeatedly stating that we were very cold. Very unfortunate. The food was very tasty.

Fast chicken restaurant. Renovated but not more cozy. 2 half roosters with attachments, 1 fries, 1 salad, 1 corn and a bottle of house wine 80 euros tip. Quite a lot for two little roosters.

Van 't Spit is no longer what it used to be, which is a shame For €35 I ordered (via Uber Eats) half a chicken, fries and crunchy chicken. What did I get? Tough, lukewarm meat that was long past its prime. No juiciness, no flavor, just rubber. I couldn't choose a sauce on the site, so I politely asked for it with my order. Didn't get a drop. For €35 you expect at least a little service, but no. Van 't Spit was once great, but this? Lukewarm chicken, zero attention, no service. Shame. I don't have to come back here anymore.

A great address! We had dinner there during our short stay in Amsterdam. The prices are not excessive and the team is very pleasant. We ate very well, the chicken was delicious! I warmly recommend :)

Really good rotisserie chicken. The potatoes and salad as side dishes were also super satisfying. Really welcome soft lights for a relaxing dinner. Excellent price/quality! A place not to be missed in Amsterdam :)

They cook chicken on charcoal. I haven't seen chicken this well cooked and not dried out while cooking in a long time. It was very juicy inside. They put barbecue sauce on the chicken. Maybe it might bother you. Other than that it was great. Half a chicken can easily feed one person.

After 2 hours waiting for my delivery they decided to cancel it right at the moment when it was supposed to be delivered. 2 hours of waiting for nothing!!

Delicious food again. Please note, dear Van 't Spit, raising the prices and making the portions and side dishes smaller is not a good action and is very transparent. So don't do that... This means that we go home for coffee and something tasty...

We had a really unpleasant experience with both the food service and billing. First, our orders took nearly an hour to arrive, and we had to follow up to finally get them. Then, we were charged incorrectly, with the bill being 10 euros higher due to drinks we never ordered. Whether it was an intentional overcharge or a genuine mistake, the poor service made the whole experience very uncomfortable. Please make sure to double-check your bill before paying, and I hope they improve their service if this wasn’t an intentional oversight, especially for expats.

Great flavor, very tender, very juicy! Simply perfect! Highly recommended. Also try their corn on the cobb!

Special place, where you can eat truly excellent and authentic chicken, I've never eaten such soft chicken. We had a family evening while staying in Amsterdam for a holiday. Informal and youthful place, extremely friendly staff!

Si te gusta el pollo, entonces este es probablemente uno de los mejores lugares para visitar. Fue lo suficientemente agradable para sentarse fuera en mayo, y el servidor vino y tomó nuestro pedido rápidamente y con una sonrisa. El pollo asado escupido estaba delicioso y bien cocido; no graso y no seco. Las papas fritas también estaban buenas. Lo único negativo fue que no servían cervezas grandes y para un lugar que solo ofrece 2 postres, que uno de ellos no estuviera disponible fue decepcionante.

The menu is fairly simple: spit-roasted chicken and sides. We found an English version of the menu on their website, and the English-speaking waitress was quite helpful. My husband had the 1/2 chicken with corn on the cob. I had the nuggets and some of his chicken plus we shared fries and coleslaw. It was a good meal in a nice atmosphere.

Sadly I have to say that my experience at this restaurant was disappointing. The service was downright bad, I was not helped in a friendly manner. This negatively affected the entire dining experience. I had hoped for a pleasant evening dining out, but unfortunately this was not the case. I will not recommend this restaurant to others due to the poor service and lack of hospitality.

Their sauces are great. I recommend you to eat chicken and organic potatoes.

Service and waitresses were nice and helpful. The chicken was good, interesting and tasteful dips and and sharing a coleslaw and mashed potato bowl worked fine between two people. Would have been 5* if it was not for the constant cold breeze (visited in December) at the tables caused by the ventilation in the restaurant.

Assaggiata la grigliata mista per due che comprende: -mezzo pollo -costine di maiale -salsiccia Inoltre ho assaggiato le patate fritte e la cheesecake. Tutto molto buono. Consiglio di prenotare, io ho trovato l'ultimo posto sul bancone, poiché il ristorante era pieno.

Good and friendly waiters, we came on a Sunday evening at 9.00pm they immediately seated us and served us, excellent chicken, I recommend trying the sweet psttae purée, the nuggets and the inevitable corn on the cob, as an Italian I felt at home and I ate well, I recommend it to everyone, from now on it will be a fixed stop on every trip to Amsterdam

We dachten ,gaan weer eens eten bij de “ bekende kip Van t Spit “ verkeerde gedachte dus ! Cappuccino’s waterig ,te vol ,kip was lauw en zo zout ,, patat karig en lauw. Wat van gezegd maar personeel was ongeïnteresseerd . Was alleen maar met elkaar in gesprek zittend op een krukje achter de oven . Te jong personeel dus .en qua prijs wat we betaald hebben niet voor herhaling vatbaar . En er staat op de website dat je niet kan reserveren maar er kwamen mensen (6) na ons binnen en hadden eerder het eten Heel jammer …….

Als de kip maar echt biologisch is zoals ze pretenderen is het een top plek.

Very well cooked chicken that has slightly burnt and crisp skin and the dash of lemon juice adds a nice tangy taste. Coleslaw was ok.

Komen er al jaren helemaal uit Rotterdam. Echt super lekkere houtskool gegaarde kip. Friet, coleslaw en zoete aardappelpuree zijn jummy.

Nice tables outside, a fairly good position and home-made sauces do not make up for very ordinary food, low-quality raw ingredients and slow service. Not recommended.

Altijd top eten en als je even moeten wachten voor ophalen, wordt er een drankje aangeboden. Toppers!

Honestly I couldn’t taste anything special especially it was supposed to be free range chicken , the flavour was good but it was over cooked so the meat was pretty dry , the highest respect for a chicken is to cook it properly that can be still tasty and juicy! I saw the reviews that many people think it’s the best , I guess the more you’ve tried the higher standards you have . I wouldn’t go again as I find it no difference than the any other fast food where serve chickens .

Looks like an old school place with amazing chicken. They know for the chicken and its the only thing they serve + side dishes: apple puree, cabbage salad, corn, fries, salad. I think the chicken is well done and prices are reasonable.

Had alot of stuff on my bill that we didn't order and stuff we obviously did.The bill was 169 Euro.which once we looked at bill they took 60 dollars that wasn't ours off.I feel like since we weren't Dutch they thought we wouldn't catch it.Claimed they put the table beside us on our bill but they say down 30 minutes after us and didn't even have their food when we left.

This place is great. They specialize in Rotisserie Chicken but better. All the menu is locally sourced and handmade in store. The chickens are sous vide the entire night before then cooked to juicy perfection for you. Because of the care they take, the chickens are so moist (probably the most moist chicken I even had). The bread and butter (handmade bread and butter) were excellent, the sweet potato mash was very tasty, great mix of flavours. Even ALL the sauces they give you are all handmade as well. Def recommend to anyone who likes food.

Really delicious chicken you do not expect to get in the central part of the city like Amsterdam being crowded by tourists. Comfortable atmosphere, great sauces, very good local beer and friendly staff makes it even attractive. Finally, when you see heavy traffic of delivery guys constantly taking out packages for locals, you understand that you came to the right place.

It's a simple, objective truth - this is one of the best chicken shops in the EU. Truly haven't been this blown away in a long time by a walk-in meal. The chicken was unreal and the sides were really herby, fresh, and delicious. The manager and my server were both nice and welcoming men. Loved it!
