This is our favorite restaurant in Amsterdam sofar, the atmosphere, the food and above all the staff are out of this world. We would recommend the Hotel to arrange toilets nearer to the restaurant. That is the only critic we can think of. In addition the Pillows Hotel has a cozy bar and a restaurant with an outside terrace. Perfect for lunch or an afternoon drink.

What a remarkable restaurant. From the welcome area to the dining room, every aspect of this place was top-notch. The food was impeccable, flavorful and unique. Loved being surprised by every dish. The wine pairings were perfect and the service was friendly and genuine. Quite possibly the best restaurant I’ve been to in Amsterdam since moving here. Would absolutely recommend to friends and family and cannot wait to return.

A hidden gem! What a wonderful fine dining experience by Floris van Straalen and his team. We loved being at the Chefs table, the interaction and marvellous food and wines. We’re looking forward to come to VanOost again!

This restaurant is absolutely perfect for a special celebration meal. We chose both the meat and vegetarian tasting menus so we could experience the full range of flavours, and neither disappointed. Each course offered something unique, with creative combinations that kept us pleasantly surprised throughout the evening. The wine pairings were thoughtfully chosen and really enhanced the dishes – you could tell there had been care and attention put into balancing everything beautifully. The staff were excellent from start to finish. They came across as genuinely passionate about the food and wine, sharing their knowledge in a way that was informative but never overbearing. Their enthusiasm really added to the experience and made the meal feel even more special. The setting itself is grand and elegant, the sort of place where you instantly feel you’re in for a treat. Despite the sophistication, the atmosphere was warm and relaxed, helped by the gentle background buzz of conversation from other diners. It struck just the right balance – refined without being stuffy. Overall, it was a truly memorable dining experience and one I would happily recommend for anyone marking a birthday, anniversary, or simply wanting to indulge in something exceptional. Both food lovers and those just looking for a special night out will come away impressed.

Inventive, exciting, and excellent service.

I was quite disappointed by my recent visit. The food itself is delicious but due to my allergies I had limited options and had two courses which were predominantly bread based. When I raised concerns about the size of the courses the waiting staff did not seem to care and so we decided to leave and get food somewhere else afterwards instead. For over €200 I expected better.

What a wonderful experience! From the moment we walked in, everything was perfect: the welcome was warm, the atmosphere cozy, and the interior stylish without being pretentious. The staff was incredibly friendly and had a real eye for detail without being intrusive. The food was simply fantastic. Every dish was beautifully presented, perfectly seasoned, and clearly prepared with care. You could taste the quality and love in the kitchen. The wine suggestions were also a perfect match. Everything went smoothly and relaxed, without long waits. You truly felt welcomed here. This is one of those restaurants where, while you're eating, you're already planning when you'll return. Highly recommended!

VanOost is a pearl of a restaurant: unique, elegant, but still approachable and with its imperfections. Loved the welcoming salute by the kitchen staff when guests walk in the dining room, loved the size of the tables even just for 2 people which had plenty of space, loved the strawberry dessert with Sichuan pepper which was just so flavorful yet delicate. What I loved a little less: waiting for the staffs’ attention when entering the restaurant to get accompanied to the table, the staffs’ bit nervous/pissed attitude during service, the lobster’s flavor killed by a disproportionate amount of garam masala sauce (the dish in general felt like a cousin of the butter chicken), the fact that side dishes were bigger than the main dishes they came with. Overall, I enjoyed my experience, the food was mostly good and the atmosphere patched the holes left by other elements. A bit disappointed in the cuisine, as I was expecting something more, also from the signature langoustine, which simply failed to impress. It is good, don’t get me wrong, but it is not innovative. I won’t be back, but I had a pleasant evening.

Definitely one of the best meals we’ve ever eaten…we had the vegetarian flight (6 options) and it was delicious. A 3 hour dinning experience that was inventive, creative and would highly recommend for any foodie. Would love to go back.

VanOost blijft een van onze favoriete restaurants. Zeker gecombineerd met een overnachting in Pillows. Ook dit keer was het weer top. Een diner beginnen met steak tartaar en een oester; veel vrolijker krijg je mij niet. Heel klein puntje van verbetering was dat de porties wat summier waren dit keer. Nu breid ik vrijwel altijd uit met kaas, maar dat was dus ook nodig. Al met al weer heerlijk gegeten en zeker niet voor de laatste keer.

Had a great evening with our family and supporters. We had a 7 course menu with half a wine arrangement. Extensive with a cheese dessert. We have really been pampered. The entrance is already so nice when you are guided to your table and the shout is: 'arrive 6 people', with the response in unison from the open kitchen 'welcome!'. We felt really welcome. The service is top notch. The sommelier had a nice story related to the dish for each wine. In short, we enjoyed it immensely. A real evening out.

Mooi restaurant in een prachtig pand , we gingen voor zes gangen met bijpassende wijnen , de bediening vriendelijk en vakbekwaam. Het tempo was goed de gerechten erg smaakvol. Ook de combinatie van spijs en wijn was goed. Wat ik persoonlijk jammer vond dat de porties aan de kleine kant waren . Zeker het hoofdgerecht 20 gram vlees verdeeld in twee stukjes ,jammer ,de smaak voortreffelijk . We waren met acht personen en ieder deelde deze mening .

This is the best fine dining restaurant I have ever been. We were there for a birthday celebration. I love the signature dish - Langoustine - definitely recommend it. The very best!! We had an absolutely incredible evening! The 7-course chef’s menu was of absolute world-class quality, and the Otoro tuna touched me to the depths of my soul—it was so delicious that it made me emotional. I was truly speechless. The wine pairing was sublime; each glass danced through the courses like a perfectly synchronized pair on the dance floor. We had the privilege of sitting at the chef’s table, and I found it a true pleasure to witness a team of professionals, passionate about their craft, creating something extraordinary. You can see in everything they do that they genuinely enjoy bringing out the best in each other. Floris van Straalen, the chef, has put together a fantastic brigade, and you can see, taste, and even smell it in every dish. Once again, chapeau! I will definitely be coming back here.

Had a great evening. So far the best experience in terms of 0.0 wine pairing range. Genuinely tasty and surprising wines; bubble, white and even red! (Not those sweet 'grape juices'). Dietary requirements were also handled perfectly. Like for me, gluten intolerance. I think the menu was already set up for this in advance, so I had no replacements or omitted components. This is a huge plus! Positive feedback; The room is quite formal, but could use a slightly warmer touch. Definitely see you soon!

In addition, the distinction between the arrival and the location of the dinner creates a nice atmosphere. But what made it complete was the service. The concept of landing in the aperitive bar first, before going to dinner are really great! We truly enjoyed the atmosphere and staff. It was amazing to see the level of service by the staff in both formal and informal style which kept it at a high level, but not distant. And the food and wine pairings were also really good and surprising. A lot of thinking was put in both. And finally the cheese trolley and the tea/friandices trolley were both great. We will come back for sure!

In the area where I was born, and no, I don't have good memories of that, you will find this fantastic restaurant. I'll definitely be back! Had dinner at Van Oost on Christmas Eve. Excellent food. But afterwards we were having a cocktail with several (unknown to us) guests and everyone said the same thing; We ate well, but we are almost 700 euros lighter for 2 people and are still hungry. Unfortunately no more Van Oost for us.

Van Oost was one of the most exceptional dining experiences we have ever had. The experience begins from the minute you are warmly welcomed by the staff at the stunning restaurant. Every detail is thought through and delivered with excellence. While all the food was delicious, the Otoro was quite literally the best single dish of food I have ever had in my life. We highly recommend doing the wine pairing, as each wine was perfectly matched with each course. Perfection Van Oost team!!

We had the 5 course tasting menu plus cheese course. What an amazing experience. Food, service and atmosphere were all outstanding. An unpleasant experience. I had noticed that the reason for the dinner was a birthday. Before the desserts I had asked to bring a plate written "happy birthday" or a candle. and NOTHING. At the end of having paid the bill I told the waiter again and when I'm leaving through the door he comes to me with a little box and a happy birthday card. With small details my experience could have been better.

We celebrated our anniversary in style and the entire evening was magical, from the staff to the food and drinks to the paired wines and everything in between (and Miguel’s crafty cocktails were especially exceptional). Had an excellent meal on October 5, 2024 at VanOost. You will be warmly welcomed and start in the cocktail bar where you can order a drink and be served three amuses. You then choose whether you want a la carte or the surprise menu, possibly a wine arrangement and then you are guided to your table where you are served all the dishes. Beautiful space, very modern and atmospheric, nice background music too. Service is informal and friendly but not too jovial, knowledgeable and professional but not too cold: perfect. Very nice, young sommelier, who can talk well and very substantively about the wines. Delicious, special wines and the dishes are small works of art with sometimes very special flavor combinations. It was a dinner for our tenth anniversary and twenty years of togetherness, and we couldn't have spent our evening better. Enjoyed it immensely!

Gisteravond 27 september voor het eerst bij van Oost gegeten. Ambiance is voortreffelijk, zeer vriendelijk ontvangen en de valid parking is prima geregeld. Ontvangst in het gezellige bar gedeelte waar onder het genot van een glas champagne de eerste amuses werden genuttigd. Vervolgens onder begeleiding naar het restaurant gedeelte. Gekozen voor het 6 gangen diner met uitbreiding van een een fantastisch eendenlever gerecht. Overigens gerechten uitstekend van smaak, een oosterse touch, met goed en zeer vriendelijke uitleg. Dit alles onder het genot van een moooie fles Mersault. Van Oost is dus een aanrader en wij keren in zeker nog terug.

My wife and I were very impressed with our culinary experience at VanOost. The staff were all delightful, from the friendly and welcoming hostess, to the bartender, servers, and the chef himself. We were delighted by the option to have non-alcoholic drink pairings with each course, as we do not drink alcohol. The pairings were interesting and good in quality and variety. The food was all interesting in concept, flavor, and texture. You can sense a deep Asian influence paired with a traditional French training, with a seasoning of other worldly cousines. Many dishes were adventurous and creative, with a well considered concept. The focus seemed to be on the playful expression of balance, teetering from one side to the other in terms of flavor and texture as you went through each course. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants an adventurous and enjoyable fine dining experience.

Big thank you for the whole VanOost team for providing such a great evening last night for the six of us. It shows everyone working at VanOost is happy with their job. The result? Great hospitality, relaxed atmosphere, personnel that is thoughtful in every way. The old building itself is very special, you have to look for yourself. We had oyster, langoustine, ‘griet’, wild duck, several desserts and friandises after delicious pre dinner bites. Special mention for Rick for the excellent wine and non alcoholic pairings. We are sure big things are going to happen to VanOost in the near future. Very highly recommended!

Had dinner here for my husband's birthday and had a truly fantastic experience. I didn't really know what to expect in advance, but I was surprised on all fronts. Service nice, attentive and (clearly) professionals. Cuisine surprising dishes with new taste experiences and fine portions (detail: nice to greet the guests upon arrival). They will definitely see us again, one of the better restaurants in Amsterdam at the moment. Keep up the fantastic work guys!

Wat een geweldige ervaring. Beginnen met het personeel; gewoon super vriendelijk en gastvrij en bijzonder goed op elkaar ingespeeld. Het eten...... echt een beleving. Wat is dat onwijs goed. Wij hadden een wijn arrangement wat bijzonder goed aansloot bij de gerechten die we kregen. Overal uitleg over de combinatie wijn en de gerechten. Ze nemen daar echt tijd voor. En dan de locatie. Die is ook super. Niet gehorig ondanks de open keuken. Je hoort helemaal niets maar je ziet heel veel. En dat is mooi. Uniek is de afsluiting met de fromage kar en daarna nog de bonbon kar voor bij de koffie. Ook weer een belevenis. Echt en aanrader en we zijn nog steeds aan het nagenieten. Hoop dat ze eind van dit jaar een ster krijgen want dat verdienen ze echt.

Het begon met een warm welkom met bubbles in the Living, met vriendelijk receptie personeel en doorman die de auto parkeerde. We hadden een 6 gangen menu in het VanOost restaurant 's avonds, we hadden een lekkere wijn aangeraden gekregen en het eten was erg smaakvol. Overal het was een top ervaring en aan te raden als uitje in eigen land.

Lovely experience! Should have Michelin stars! They start at the bar area with an amuse bouche and option for an aperitif. The bartender is very creative and can craft custom cocktails, which was super fun! I liked how this started the evening in a more playful way and not so stuffy, which is often how very high end restaurants can feel. We then moved to the main dining room with an open kitchen, which I always love. The tasting at this moment is infused with Japanese flavors, which is always my favorite! What I really like was they weren’t scared to use some actual spice/ kick in their menu. The entire menu was a delight. My husband particularly loved the langoustine and I particular loved the sweetbreads and sauce with oysters. We also did the wine pairing. We loved how they offered a half glass wine pairing! We find a full wine pairing for a person to be too much, and so this was perfect! I also recommend the cheese at the end. The jams with them were a perfect way to end the meal.

Helemaal top- sterwaardig - zowel de gerechten - de vele amuses - maar zeker ook de bijpassende wijnen - als extra nog een kaasplankje laten komen - waarna het dessert kwam - allemaal super !! Op naar n ster!! Alles was perfect met wat leuke uitschieters- waarbij ook de yell van het keuken brigade hoorde die “welkom” uitschreeuwde op het moment dat je de fineerzaag binnenkwam!! Gewoon leuk en …. Uniek (toch!!😉👍) iets viel uiteindelijk wat tegen - en dat was de rekening! Maar ja….dan heb je ook iets (echt lekkers Groetjes

It took a while, but yesterday we finally ate at VanOost for the first time. And it certainly wasn't a disappointment. Easily one of the better places in Amsterdam. Well done!

In honor of my parents' 45th wedding anniversary, we made a reservation at VanOost. Well before the dinner was to take place, I contacted whether this fact could be taken into account at some point during the dinner. After an enthusiastic response to my request via email, I would be contacted for further coordination, but unfortunately this did not happen by VanOost. We were 6 people, 3 men and 3 women, and we started with a glass of champagne in the bar at the front of the restaurant. While drinking this champagne, the host came to our table and indicated that we could sit at the table. Normally he lifts all the glasses for the guests, but with 6 people it was difficult for him to explain... so after some hesitation everyone stood. finished with a few more sips in the glass and walked to the table under supervision. Very strange to so abruptly (when no one is ready) to bring everyone to the table, it seems to me. It is more logical to indicate to the group that the table is ready and that once everyone has finished their aperitif, they can sit down to eat. The wine list follows at the table and since we had ordered the 8 courses, we thought it would be better to include a wine pairing, so that it matches all the dishes. The 3 men have chosen a full package and for the ladies a "bob" wine package. The wine glasses are filled quickly, it is immediately noticeable that the gentlemen with a full arrangement receive very meagerly filled glasses, especially if you compare it to those with the bob arrangement. Since it concerns the first course, you think that things might change during the evening, but nothing has proven to be further from the truth. The difference in price between the two packages has proven to be truly inexplicable, which is a shame as we are huge wine lovers. The wines were of good quality, but in my opinion it is strange to serve a cider and a stout beer in a wine package of this price. The dishes were all very tasty, but the service was generally messy. The story about the wines was repeatedly introduced quickly and unclearly, several times while we were still fully engaged in conversation. It all seemed nervous, to be honest. In the beginning there was a lot of pace, but later it slowed down, causing the coordination of filling the glass and serving the dishes to be poor, resulting in a "practically" empty glass for dishes. Or that dishes were simply served too late, resulting in cooled dishes. Now you may be thinking, why are you only coming up with this now? We were in a festive mood and wanted to keep this going, especially since I was invited. After an inventory and confirmation with the rest, I thought it was important to share our above experience, to share it directly with VanOost. Unfortunately, there was a response to the above that made me feel that I was not taken seriously at all. A short email full of spelling mistakes, in which the explanation below concerns the answer to the above: Some of the situations you described are done on purpose. But as soon as they completely review and adjust their service, they will certainly take your experience as a guest into account. We enjoyed the beautiful restaurant, the ambiance and the quality of the dishes. However, there is still a lot to be done in coordination and contact with guests, as well as in dealing with criticism. This does not fit the price and ambition level of such a restaurant. At least no more VanOost for us!

What an amazing find. Quality and attention to detail on every level. The room is gorgeous mixing modern with the rustic high wooden roof. The lighting is just right and the music plays softly from speakers up high making it very speakeasy. The kitchen is open but you almost don't hear a peep from them, very well organised. The service is top level, all of the staff are very open and welcoming. They explain all of the dishes and wine very well and are just overall very personable. The food was an experience in itself. Surprises at every corner and really the best food I've had in my 10 years in Amsterdam.

Excellent, not that they need it, but a Michelin ⭐️ is imminent. Loved sitting at the bar watching the team cook, felt like a dining & theatre combo. Great service as well.

A really special experience from the moment you step in. Can really taste the effort that went into the amazing flavours. Would definitely recommend.

Had the Christmas set lunch with my daughter while we were in town. Fun experience. Wonderful ambience. Service team were all delightful, I thought the food was excellent (some items were a little too wild for my daughter, but that was expected), but my daughter summed it up when we left: can we grab a little pizza somewhere? When you spend €300 for the meal you shouldn’t walk away still a little hungry…. They need to increase their portions a bit.

We enjoyed an 8 course Christmas Menu with wine pairing. Literally everything from the beginning to the end was absolutely amazing!!! Thank you for a truely wonderful unique experience, we loved it 🫶

We tried the chef’s menu. It was consisting of mostly seafood (scallops,lobster) courses and ending with a pigeon main dish. All of the courses were extremely tasty. Each dish was served in really nice and original plate. Wine pairing was also excellent. One of the best culinary experience we have had in Amsterdam

We had the Chefs table with nine courses. Food was exceptional and the wine pairing was well done. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about wine. Overall a very nice experience, great vibe, and full of small surprises. This is one of my favourite restaurants in Amsterdam.

The restaurant has been operating in a quiet mode since November in the Pillows Hotels building. We were informed of this by a Facebook message and immediately reserved a table. We had a wonderful culinary experience. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is perfect. A wonderful landing to enjoy complete peace and quiet in the hectic city!

Gisteren hier gegeten en in alles omver geblazen. Wat een setting (prachtig pand en mooie groene omgeving) en geweldig smaakvolle inrichting. Zeer vriendelijk en prettig personeel dat meedenkt en niet opdringerig is. De gerechten zijn stuk voor stuk prachtige kunstwerken, zowel om te zien als in smaak. Wijnen zijn goed passend. Akoestiek is zeer prettig (ondanks de beat in de muziek versta je elkaar goed, zonder je stem te moeten verheffen, iets dat ik zelden meer tegenkom in restaurants). Echt een ervaring die onvergetelijk is. Dank daarvoor, alles klopte ! Wat ons betreft de prijs dus dubbel en dwars waard !

Memorable & incredible experience...from start to finish was an explosion of unique flavours...we paired the 8 course menu with the wine and it was the perfect match.We were offered some pre dinner tasty snacks before going into the restaurant.

Special, delightful, spectacular are just a few adjectives I’d use to describe this restaurant. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday and our engagement anniversary. From the moment we walked in - Van Oost’s front of the house to the wonderful bartender Miguel took care of our every need. The service, attention to detail, the ambiance - nothing was clumsy - the restaurant functioned like a well oiled machine. This is a multiple star Michelin quality experience where ultimately the food is the star. What chef Floris Van Straalen has created rivals the finest restaurants in Europe. Michelin judges take note - this is a true jewel tucked away in the Pillows hotel. The langostine pasta was the BEST bite of food I’ve had in Europe. My wife who can’t stand oysters, polished off her oyster dish. The short ribs were magical and the dessert was delicious. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Every time we are in Europe, I’ll try to make it here. The food was that good. Fantastic. Worth every penny and more.

A lovely experience! I really recommend! The location of this restaurant is beautiful, and the decoration very charming. We took the 8 courses, food was delicious, each dishes were very well presented, the seasoning and the melange of flavours were just perfect all together. Wine was excellent. Service was great. However, my only concern is about the water at 18 euros for two peoples, without even having our own bottle, is perhaps a bit excessive in comparison with the rest. but I would definitely come back for the Fall menu!
