The food we got was really tasty, we chose the cote de boeuf fo two people at €88, however- the portion size was pitiful. The meat was enough, but the sides were barely enough for one rather than two- since these are the least expensive part of the meal it makes no sense as to why you wouldn’t provide enough to fulfil two people. The meat was also a little cold, forgivable because it was very tasty. There was a dog in the restaurant which yapped throughout the meal which definitely took away from the overall experience.

The service was incredibly slow. We waited half an hour, even though there were only three tables. The Pinot Noir was fermented, and the steak tartare was bland. The lunch menu was very limited. We were very disappointed.

We stumbled on this restaurant for dinner and got a table for 2 without a reservation. It was delicious and the environment was amazing! We walked in around 6:15 and it was empty, but by the time we left, it had filled up quite a bit. We ordered the pork belly, fries, and the bouillabaisse.

Delightful Monday night meal. Highlights include the lone person manning the restaurant who tended to all tables with a great attitude and full confidence in the menu and wine list. From the small plates to seafood entrees nothing disappointed. We will definitely return on our next stay at the Pulitzer.

What a fantastic restaurant. Has a really great atmosphere and must be amazing on a cold winters night. The food was lovely, we had the Chateaubriand, which was cooked to perfection, as we're the fries and lettuce. The wine was really nice and the service was wonderful. I dined at your place tonight with American business partners. Apologies for the audible enthusiasm from us. It was delicious, both the ambiance and the food. Beautiful restaurant, good food, excellent service. Unfortunately, the pork belly I had was a bit disappointing, but the side dishes—eggplant, among other things—were very tasty and good. I give the pork belly a 6, everything around it an 8, the steak my table companions shared and which I tasted an 8.5, and the fries and the waiter with the curly hair a 9.5. (You know who you are.) As soon as I'm rich, or when I'm treated again, I'll definitely be back.

Atmosphere an interior was nice. The rest, unfortunately, was not good at all. We were waiting for the food for more than an hour. When we finally got "pork belly" it appears to be pure fat, literally. I understand that pork belly could go with far for jusiness, but this one almost didn't have meat, only fat with no side dish. Steak was mediocre. It is defenetly not worth the price

I had a dinner tonight at Venus & Adonis restaurant in the area of the 9 streets in Amsterdam. I had to compromise and seat downstaris as even though I booked a table the guy who welcomed me said that the main (street level) area is booked. I was the 1st guest that was seated downstairs and was served by a lady. The only one in the shift with the other waiter I've mentionef. She asked if I want water and I said I want simple tap water. It took about 20-30 min to get my starter which was Salsify with smoked almonds - you get exactly 3 roots of vegetale (12€), my main course arrived 30 min later and was Redfish with mousseline, leek bisque (28€). The fish wasn't seassoned at all and was tasteless, and there wasn't any salt & pepper mills on my table. As the lady waiter went off to serve other tables in the main upstsires area, and I want to eat my dish as it was getting cold, I went to the next empty table, took the peper mill but it was emty, I had no choice and asked 2 ladies that were sitting next to my table if I can take their salt & pepper mills which were empty too. The lady waiter came back to my table and I told her that I nead seasoning. She took the empty pepper mill and served other tables instead of taking care about me. It took her a good few minutes later to bring a pepper & salt mill but my dish was already cold. When I finished I asked for the bill and it took good few minutes again to get it. To my surprise they charged me 3 € for "watter service"and when I asked why (as I asked for tap water and she didn't mention they will charge me) she answered we charge for "filltered water"... My overall experiense wasn't good at all. I would not go back or recommand this restaurant at all. Service was slow, not attentive, and overall you don't get value for your money.

A fantastic restaurant, right in the heart of the Jordaan district. We got off to a great start; when we asked for wine recommendations, we were given a really good service. The result: a delicious Tempranillo. The starters arrived quickly and looked as delicious as they tasted. The chef made a quick stop by our table, and we were even able to order our main courses from him: pointed cabbage with vadouvan sauce and chicken thigh. The atmosphere is super cozy, warm, and friendly. Highly recommended!

Echt een 10!! Als je van lekker eten houd, moet je hier naartoe. De chef maakt alles zelf, onwijs leuke uitleg gekregen over de gerechten en de liefde en passie, proef je terug in de gerechten. Ook de bediening is super, goede adviezen gekregen over de wijnen en een gezellige sfeer. Wij hadden bar bites om te delen als vooraf, als hoofdgerecht de cote de Boeuf en steak tartaar en als dessert de kaas en een kersen taartje. Echt onwijs genoten, de kwaliteit van het eten was super.

We had a wonderful experience here for dinner. We were able to sit outside, which was nice since it was a warm day and it was a bit warm inside. We tried nearly all of the small plates, and every one of them was great. The gougeres, mackerel rillette, and brioche crayfish were standouts. The servers were great - fun and friendly. Overall a great meal and experience!

Had our first dinner in Amsterdam at this lovely restaurant. Simple, unpretentious, delicious food. Service was just right from beginning to end. We made reservations for 6pm and we were able to decide where we wanted to sit. For couples, the corner seating right up front is the perfect balance between indoor-outdoor. It felt far away from all the other diners; love the open window for people watching. 😊

All was fine and the atmosphere at the venue was pleasant, but unfortunately, I experienced a serious issue with the food. I was served clearly undercooked chicken (photo attached). When I politely pointed this out to the staff, they insisted that the pink color was just “juice” and that the chicken was meant to look that way. No action was taken. For reference, properly cooked chicken should be fully opaque and white throughout. Pink or translucent meat, especially near the bone, usually means it hasn’t reached a safe temperature — and that’s not safe for consumption. I hope this important issue is addressed by the kitchen, as food safety should always come first.

A beautiful gem in the heart of Amsterdam! We stumbled upon Venus & Adonis Corner by accident, and what a wonderful surprise it was! This bistro is beautifully designed and so stylish—it’s a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the city. The food and wine were excellent, the view is stunning, and the service was warm and attentive. We’ll definitely be coming back on purpose next time!

Solid unassuming vibe canal side in a little quieter section of Amsterdam. Got a feeling there were a lot of neighborhood customers. The food surprised us in a good way as the menu is off the beaten track for us. But that's why we travel. A good experience, the wine list was excellent the service and attention as well. Dessert was off the hook. We had a great table with a great view. Saw many check the menu out then chicken out - don't be stuck in your comfort zone. It was a good flavorful meal and experience.

La comida era terrible y muy caro para lo que era, el servicio era bastante descuidado. Pedí un plato de repollo a la parrilla - pensé que sería una interesante toma por 26 € - pero no - una minúscula cuña de repollo colocado en una sartén durante unos minutos para que no sea totalmente crujiente. Y luego unas rodajas de repollo crudo con literalmente un anacardo en la parte superior. . ¡Nada de sabor! El filete por 86 € se supone que son 700 gramos pero no te dicen que la mitad del peso es un hueso. Mal cocinado y muy masticable, vino con un pequeño tazón de papas fritas de calidad inferior y mini ensalada verde. El pan era dos rebanadas con una mantequilla de hierbas que sabía asqueroso. Eran 35 C en el restaurante - ¿no fue su culpa que fuera un día caluroso, pero cómo esperaban que la gente se sentara allí y comiera sin aire? Gastamos 150 € para una mala comida en general. ¡Muy decepcionante!

I come to Amsterdam for work often and it's somewhat overwhelming the options for food / drinks. I stumbled upon Venus and Adonis as I was walking back to my hotel and stopped in for a glass of wine. I ended up staying for dinner and it was an incredible experience My server Marije was really awesome, i could have swore she was English but overheard her saying she was born and raised in Amsterdam. She was very accommodating when I asked if they had any gamay by the glass options, and also paired a glass of riesling to the redfish I had. I would absolutely recommend this place. They have indoor and outdoor seating and the vibe is 10/10.

Food was fine, but seems more exclusive on the menu than it was, dishes quite simple. Service good, but clearly put you under pressure in terms of time. And that is also my biggest negative point: because there are 2 bookings per table per evening, at a certain point you are really asked to leave the table. nice place, nice place. good service, terrible acoustics. Too bad you don't get bread with a starter (pulpo terrine) for 16 euros. If you ask for a piece, it is on the bill for 6 euros. Also, the liver in the fois gras eclaire was so minimal and whipped up that the taste of white chocolate dominated. Still a tasty dish. With poulet chasseur we expected a tasty stew with lots of tarragon. Not a reheated chicken leg. The cheese puffs should never be off the menu again! Not only because they are delicious but also because they provide a wonderful smell all evening when served to neighbors.

I was at Venus & Adonis a week ago. The restaurant is visually very nice, with a small location on the Prinsengracht. However, when I sat down, I immediately noticed unremoved red wine stains in the shape of round wine glasses on my wooden table. This irritated me a bit, as the restaurant had initially made a serious impression on me. I ordered the Roodbaars with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. When the lady brought me the wine, the glass wasn't even half full! I found this service extremely embarrassing for the restaurant, as well as truly stingy. This service had nothing to do with class. The main course didn't even have a proper side dish, except for a mini pommes pavé at an inflated price! At least the fish was fresh and well-prepared. Overall, it was quite disappointing. The service wasn't exactly the most attentive and quite arrogant. What also irritated me were the dishes on the menu described in French, which had absolutely nothing to do with French food. It's generally very difficult to find decent food in Amsterdam. I prefer to spend my money in Paris.

Ich war vor einer Woche im Venus & Adonis. Optisch ist das Restaurant sehr schön mit kleiner Location am Prinsengracht. Als ich mich reinsetzte bemerkte ich jedoch direkt nicht entfernte Rotweinflecken in runder Form von Weingläsern auf meinem Holztisch. Das irritierte mich ein wenig, da das Restaurant anfangs auf mich einen seriösen Eindruck gemacht hatte. Ich bestellte den Roodbaars mit einem Glas Sauvignon Blanc. Als mir die Dame den Wein brachte, war das Glas nicht einmal halb gefüllt! Ich fand diesen Service extremst peinlich für das Restaurant als auch wirklich sehr geizig. Mit Klasse hatte dieser Service nichts zutun. Der Hauptgang hatte auch gar keinen richtigen side Dish außer einem mini Pommes Pavé zu einem überhöhten Preis! Wenigstens war der Fisch frisch und gut zubereitet gewesen. Im großen und ganzen ziemlich enttäuschend. Die Bedienung war auch nicht gerade die zuvorkommendste und ziemlich arrogant. Was mich auch irritiert hat, waren französisch beschriebene Gerichte auf der Karte, die mit französischem Essen überhaupt nichts zutun haben. Es ist generell sehr schwierig in Amsterdam vernünftig zu essen. Ich gebe mein Geld lieber in Paris aus.

This is my second time here, and I came back because I really enjoyed the meal I had on my first visit. However, unfortunately, this time the main course was a disappointment. We ordered a 700-gram steak, and first of all, it took a very long time to arrive, around 1 hour. While many people prefer their steak rare or medium, we specifically mentioned that we do not like it that way and requested it to be well-done. However, the steak arrived bloody and practically raw. They reheated it, but it still wasn’t right—it was tough and hard to cut. On the bright side, the oysters and cheese profiteroles were delicious, and the organic wine we tried was excellent. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming. However, paying 85 euros for a steak I couldn’t eat and having to wait so long for it was really disappointing. Unfortunately, for these reasons, I won’t be coming back, nor would I recommend this place.

Cenamos en Venus & Adonis anoche, 3 / 17 / 2025 , y todo fue maravilloso. Desde las ensaladas laterales hasta el apio, pasando por el pollo y el eglefino, y también el par escalfado, todo estaba delicioso. El servicio era perfecto también. Nos alojamos en el Pulitzer Hotel y nos recomendaron este lugar. Quería encantarme y los dos primeros platos fueron buenos, pero la cote de boeuf para dos salió rara. No como raro y mi madre ni siquiera come medio, así que le pedí que se volviera a cocinar, momento en el que la servidora hizo algún comentario sobre cómo todas las piezas ya se han cortado (¿no es posible cocinar cuando las cosas se cortan?). No quería hacer un problema, así que solo pedí unas cuantas piezas para cocinar bien para mi mamá, pero solo lidié con la temperatura rara de mi porción. No me encantó la reacción del servidor a los alimentos que se cocinan de nuevo a una temperatura que es aceptable para el cliente. Debería haber sido más contundente. En resumen, pasé el día siguiente que fue mi ÚLTIMO día en Amsterdam enfermo en la habitación del hotel con un grave ataque de intoxicación alimentaria. Fue una prueba de 10 horas de no dejar de vomitar. No tuve ninguna otra comida ese día dado el desfase horario así que estoy bastante seguro de cuál fue el culpable. Estas cosas suceden desafortunadamente, pero sobre todo, no me encantó la actitud cuando se le preguntó si la carne se podía volver a cocinar. También soy americano y la diferente temperatura de la carne es algo que todos los restaurantes acomodan aquí, así que tal vez una diferencia cultural allí? Lo permitiré, pero perderse un día entero de un itinerario de 3 días fue desafortunado. No puedo recomendar este restaurante de buena fe a nadie dado lo que pasé. De nuevo, realmente quería amarlo. Es un ambiente agradable, y los cangrejos de río en el brioche era genial al igual que el abadejo untado (todos los aperitivos) , pero no creo que pueda estómago carne de res de nuevo por un tiempo.

I’ve been to this restaurant twice now—once with my partner and once with my parents. The food was incredible both times; creative, seasonal, local and flavoursome. The atmosphere is great and the service very good. Wine was also excellent. One of Amsterdam’s best restaurants in my books!

Om drie uur binnenkomen waaien. Of we nog iets kleins konden eten? Nou dat was geen probleem. Naast elkaar aan het raam gaan zitten. Heerlijk warm en leuk mensen kijken. Wel met de rug naar de prachtige zaak(!) , dus af en toe even omdraaien. Gerechtjes brioche, tartaar en de pate de campagne waren erg goed bereid. Zoals je dat in een topzaak in Frankrijk zou mogen verwachten, voor een zeer redelijke prijs. Heerlijke Goutte Blanche op advies bij gedronken. Spot on. Gezellig met de eigenaresse gesproken. Nieuwe kaart was net ingegaan. Top. Nu al fans!!

The food was simply outstanding. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The meat, in particular, was delicious—cooked to perfection and incredibly tender. The attentive staff truly enhanced our experience. They were knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent recommendations. Service was prompt and friendly, ensuring we felt well taken care of throughout our visit. We also enjoyed their impressive cocktail selection and wine card, which offered a variety of options to complement our meal. Each drink we tried was expertly crafted and added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. Overall, Venus and Adonis exceeded our expectations, and we can't wait to return for another delightful dining experience! Highly recommended!

Even though it was crowded on New Year's Eve, the service was very good. Even though we made a reservation without stating that we had a baby, they took care of us and arranged a nice table for us despite the busy schedule. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious.

Richie Penrose tarde. Excelente artista. La comida no estaba a la altura. Hemos visitado este restaurante desde principios de los 80 y nunca hemos tenido una mala comida. El personal es brillante como siempre. El entrante del cóctel de gambas era pequeño con gambas muy pequeñas. El bistec de mi marido era muy picante, al igual que mi cena de pavo. Las patatas asadas eran congeladas. Ambos pensamos que el chef había ido a la ciudad cubriendo nuestra cena con pimienta, fue una pena. El desierto era la mejor parte. No nos quejamos ya que estaba muy ocupado y tarde por desgracia. Podemos intentarlo de nuevo después de Navidad si es lo mismo que probablemente no volveríamos. Nos encanta este lugar fue bastante decepcionante.

We stumbled upon Venus & Adonis while exploring the streets of Amsterdam, and it turned out to be such a gem! We were seated at a cozy spot right by the window, which opened up to the street. It was a perfect spot to watch the world go by, and once we sat down, we didn’t want to leave. We shared a few bottles of Bandol La Chance rosé, which was absolutely delicious, and enjoyed some incredible food. I believe their menu changes seasonally, but we loved the burrata appetizer and the pea soup. For our main course, we both had the filet mignon, and it was cooked to absolute perfection! The service was warm and attentive, making our experience even better. We loved it so much that we came back the very next night! If you’re in Amsterdam, I highly recommend stopping by Venus & Adonis. We can’t wait to return one day!

Otra mala señal. Mi corazón se hundió cuando me di cuenta de que no había desmoronamiento. Solo migas, galletas Amoretti partidas con una cucharada de manzana, trozos de cuerda y crema infundida. 23 . 20 La factura llega 248 euros con 36 euros de postre no cobrado. La camarera tuvo el descaro de preguntar si todo estaba bien. Tan efectivamente lo que podría haber sido un billete de 285 euros para cuatro personas con 5 platos devueltos, el vino equivocado, filete de goma, personal ocupado desinteresado, comida de mala calidad y un servicio increíblemente malo. Teniendo en cuenta las altas calificaciones en Trip Advisor, tal vez el restaurante debería ser renombrado como “The Emperor’s New Clothes”.

Good food, although the service could have been better. We were seated downstairs which was a bummer, ask to be seated in the main floor dining room forsure, much better atmosphere. Took 35 minutes for us to even get something to drink downstairs. Food came out slow too. 3.5/5 experience overall.

Very bad experience here . A whole sea bass between two was served ( after an hour waiting ) undercooked and raw in the middle . We sent this back and it was returned completely boned and diced - in a heap ! Couldn't believe that they expected us to eat this . The staff had a very poor attitude .We paid for our wine and left - would not recommend.

We had a wonderful experience at Venus and Adonis. Joyce, the owner, makes amazing drinks and the food is incredible. We enjoyed the chicken and steak with the carrots on the side. The staff is so kind Mariaj, Sean, Maddie and Larry. The drinks were so good that we went back a second night. The expresso martinis are worth the trip. Staff is amazing and food is very good. The light fixtures are gorgeous.

One of the best restaurants I’ve been to. The two staff who were there last night were absolutely wonderful and so knowledgeable about wine pairings, food choices, the history of the restaurant and where to go for post dinner drinks. Recommend the scallops, BBQ Ribs and fillet steak and goats cheese carrots. Scenic view of canals and good atmosphere. The waiter and bartender really made our experience special and were attentive and friendly. Highly recommended.

Review of Rijks – Vegetarian Tasting Menu (Tuin | Garden) Walking into Rijks, you immediately sense that this isn’t a “typical museum restaurant.” It’s refined without being intimidating, and the service sets the tone for what turns out to be a remarkable dining journey. For my first-ever vegetarian tasting menu — and at a Michelin-starred restaurant — I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Courses & Impressions... Tomaat (Tomato, Strawberry, Honey, Basil) A surprising opener that danced between savory and sweet. The brightness of tomato lifted by basil, with strawberry and honey adding both freshness and depth, instantly set the stage for how imaginative this menu would be. Fruits de Terre (Amazake, Shio Koji, Poppy Seed Tahini) Earthy, nutty, and umami all at once. The amazake and shio koji provided a subtle fermentation complexity, while the tahini grounded the dish. A fascinating “soil-meets-ferment” plate that showed just how far vegetables can go in flavor expression. Tuinboon (Broad Bean, Sea Lavender, Pistachio, Lemon Verbena) This plate was a revelation in texture — the creaminess of the beans, the gentle crunch of pistachio, and an herbal lift from lemon verbena. It tasted like a garden in peak summer, delicate but assertive. Pom Pom Blanc (Lion’s Mane, Celeriac Bordelaise, Hollandaise, Curry Leaf Oil) Lion’s mane mushrooms are often praised for their “meaty” bite, and here they were elevated with a Bordelaise richness and the silkiness of hollandaise. The curry leaf oil gave it a subtle aromatic twist. A dish that blurs the line between plant-based and classic French fine dining. Millefeuille of Beetroot... The star of the menu! Even though it was an add-on, this was a piece of edible art. Beetroot layered like pastry, bringing both visual drama and earthy sweetness. Worth the indulgence. Glazed BBQ Tempeh (Oatmeal, Zucchini, Ajipanca) Smoky, hearty, and comforting, this was perhaps the most surprising course. Tempeh, often dismissed as “hippie food,” was transformed into something gourmet. The Peruvian ajipanca pepper added depth without overpowering. Bijenwas (Beeswax, Honey, Elderflower, Black Fruits) A poetic finish — floral, fruity, and lightly sweet. The beeswax brought an almost ethereal texture, while elderflower and black fruits tied it together like the closing note of a symphony. Overall Experience... This menu was one of the best gastronomic journeys of my life. Every dish was layered, thoughtful, and elegant... not once did it feel like a compromise for being a vegetarian meal. Instead, it showcased the creativity and depth that vegetables can offer when handled with care.
