It's okay if you want to grab a simple coffee and maybe something sweet if there's anything left. Appeltaart wasn't the best. :( Drinks are expensive, not many beers to choose from.

Hidden gem in Leiden with a beautiful terrace downstairs and first floor. It is built in old containers which gives it a cool vibe. The drinks and food were great, ask for their borrelplank which is almost a borrel table 😂 definitely worth a visit!

Leiden, the term "Vrij" is associated with "VRIJ koffiebar," a unique café situated opposite Hogeschool Leiden in the Bio Science Park. Established in late 2022, this café is constructed from repurposed shipping containers, reflecting a commitment to sustainability. The interior features second-hand furniture, and the menu is entirely vegetarian. On the second floor, there's a 30-square-meter space called "Het Vogelnest," designed for co-creation sessions, brainstorming, and team meetings, accommodating up to 16 people.

Highly recommended! Delicious homemade brownies and other treats, but also good sandwiches and nice drinks!

We were looking for a café with a delicious breakfast and good internet. We found both here and are thrilled. The coffee and food is super delicious and looks like a lot of love! The internet connection is insane. Download and upload speed is so strong that I could easily upload and download my video files from here. The ambience invites you to linger, beautiful carpets and the large windows flood the café with lots of daylight. Absolute recommendation. I would love to give this 7 stars! Thank you for this wonderful place 🙂🙌

Leuke koffietent met goede koffie. Dicht in de buurt van de universiteit en het LUMC. Niet te druk en niet te rustig. Gezellige sfeer en vriendelijke bediening.

Een aanwinst voor Leiden. Buiten de drukte van de stad vind je deze heerlijke plek om in alle rust te genieten van hele lekkere koffie, huisgemaakte ijsthees en lekkers. Bananenbrood is heerlijk! Een luchtige cake met noten en chocola. Ontbijt en lunch ook mogelijk, maar hier nog geen gebruik van gemaakt. Vooral buiten heerlijk om te zitten in relaxte strandstoel of gezellig aan de picknicktafel. Vriendelijke medewerkers die je een heel welkom gevoel geven. Fijne gemoedelijke sfeer waar je zeker vaker terug wilt komen!

Half uurtje later, 10 uur, was er weer heerlijk vers brood!

It's very nice to see a small local business like this. It feels very nice to be there. The broodjes/tosties are delicious (with real bread). Coffee and sweets are good as well. Vegetarian options are included. A nice place to relax during a work break. They have places inside and outside (including reclining chairs!)

Als ik zo VRIJ mag zijn: het leukste koffietentje van Leiden! Erwin en Tessa scheppen een ontspannen sfeer en zetten gewoon hele lekkere koffie. En dat in een gerecyclede zeecontainer. Ruig van buiten, knus van binnen. If you want to break free (vrij) from everything, settle down in the nicest oasis of Leiden. Here, you can find the nicest coffee, the nicest baristas and the nicest scenery. Ducklings trying to jump out of the water, biologist doing mysterious things and poppies. Find a cosy spot in the reused sea container and enjoy!

Superleuke plek op het science park, met heerlijke koffie en een ongedwongen sfeer. Ik bestelde een latte machiato en vind dat altijd moeilijk uitspreken, maar de aardige dame die mijn bestelling opnam wist precies waar ik het over had. Buiten een goed opgezet terras met ook zitruimte aan het water. De ingemaakte uitjes op mijn sandwich waren een verfrissende toevoeging. Naast koffie ook een goeie plek om een (speciaal)biertje te drinken na een werkdag.

Wat een leuke koffiebar op een steenworp afstand van Naturalis. Uitzicht op plantjes en een sloot. Ze maken zelf cruesli en die is een omweg waard. Helemaal content.

Bij Koffie VRIJ welkom geweest voor een vergadering in hun ruimte op de eerste verdieping. Alles was top in orde! Fijne, lichte ruimte met mooi uitzicht, lekkere koffie en heerlijke cake en brownies. Aanrader!

Op een prachtig groen plekje ligt deze verborgen parel te schitteren en te wachten op een bezoek. Met een prachtig interieur en een terras dat vraagt om een drankje in de zon is het een lust voor het oog. Ook de menu-kaart is alles wat je wil. Van huisgemaakte ijsthee tot een heerlijk schuimige (ietwat hooggeprijste) jus d’orange. De lunchkaart is traditioneel met een heerlijk eigen twist. De verse lokale producten maken het helemaal af.

Leuk tentje, met fijne sfeer en met heerlijke koffie. De Appeltaart is de lekkerste die ik in jaren heb gegeten. Zo hoort appeltaart te smaken! ❤️
