How can this restaurant have such good reviews.. I have eaten a lot of Indonesian food.. I found the flavors anything but refined.. you only taste peppers .

I came here after several recommendations for the spicy food, so my expectations were high. The fish looked beautifully grilled, but the seasoning was surprisingly shy. If there was spice, it must have taken the day off. It was also a little dry inside. The plate came with rice, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and a small bowl of gado gado. Perfectly fine, but not enough to make the dish memorable. What disappointed me more was the service. No one asked whether I enjoyed my meal or if I'd like another drink. The staff seemed much more engaged with Indonesian speaking guests, while my experience felt rather anonymous. The employee who handled the bill was friendly, but even then nobody asked how the meal had been. Considering the price, and the tip I happily left out of courtesy, I expected more from both the food and the hospitality. For me, other Indonesian restaurants in The Hague offer a warmer welcome and more flavour.

This is probably the best nasi padang and comparable when eating in Padang itself! Its amazing, spicy as it should be, and rendang is as tender as it gets! Highly recommended and probably the only restaurant that you need to eat if you crave for Indonesia food! For 25 euro, its worth it!

I've been here twice for Nasi Padang, and it's enough to satisfy my craving for Indonesian food. It's a must-stop when you're in The Hague. I've never tried the restaurant, but I highly recommend it because the food is all delicious. The price is affordable. Should try this one.

This place was great! It's not too pricey and way more authentic (and very tasty) Indonesian food than your typical Indo-chinees restaurants in Holland. The vibe in the restaurant was also very nice, seeing Bahasa Indonesia written everywhere is also always a nice touch. Definitely coming here again! (Also if you like spice this place is good for you!)

Good spicy food but the service and communication is very medium. Had take away and only found out later some items were switched because of missing ingrediënts which was not mentioned while ordering. They don't seem to mind unhappy customers. Portions have become smaller over time, it used to be better.

I took a short course at Erasmus University Rotterdam in November 2023, and while I was in The Hague, I stopped by this restaurant for a meal. I prayed on the second floor. Delicious, authentic Indonesian flavors. The satay ayam was very tasty, with a flavorful peanut sauce that was really well-seasoned. The rendang was deliciously spicy and tasted very authentic, just like eating in Indonesia. Definitely recommended!

NEVER EAT HERE AND READ THE LOWEST-RATED REVIEWS THAT TELL YOU WHAT IT'S REALLY LIKE AT THIS RESTAURANT! Our experience: This is without a doubt the most terrible restaurant experience we have ever had with four people. The starter was the satay kambing, which was extremely tough, and the chicken satay was tasteless and colorless with a watery satay sauce. That didn't bode well. The Nasi Padang komplit was downright bad: overcooked and tough meat — beef rendang, beef tendons, and wafer-thin slices of beef in chili — everything terribly tough and far too dry. There was not a single trace of fresh vegetables or freshness. The whole thing was slathered in an excess of sambal, apparently to conceal the mediocre quality. This is a kitchen that no longer tastes or critically evaluates its own dishes. As if that weren't enough, it is also way too expensive, and we were turned away because they needed the table for other guests. When paying, the man behind the bar asked if everything had been alright, and I indicated that we had had a disappointing experience, but the man behind the bar simply turned around and walked away. Appallingly bad food, too expensive, and a restaurant where the management has a lot of self-confidence but absolutely no radar for what customers experience. In the responses to the bad reviews, no empathy for customers emerges from the restaurant, but rather a unanimous response of "this is how we do it, this is how it should be, end of story." Incidentally, it would be to the establishment's credit if they contacted us and compensated us for this—€90 in main courses—because we barely touched our main course. To date, after I have contacted them by post and email regarding this experience and offered to enter into discussions, nothing has been heard from the restaurant owner. Customer friendliness, standards and values, food quality, and being open to dialogue are not this restaurant's strong points.

What a fantastic dining experience you get in Padang Lapek! They serve delicious Indonesian dishes from Sumatra. If you are in The Hague and are craving something different, then you should go there! So wonderfully delicious and it tastes exactly like in Indonesia 👌😋.

We had a delicious meal; we had Nasi Padang Complit, which was very spicy (too bad you couldn't choose between normal, spicy, or spicy). The service was top-notch and very friendly. We ordered coffee (unfortunately, they don't have milk or creamer). The atmosphere isn't decorated in a cozy way.

Excellent serious authentic spicy food from Sumatra. Many small dishes which are all spicy and tasty. Sate kambing was also good! We will be back.

The taste of the food is considered authentic . My only comment to be improved is the Ayam Bakar, - the chicken meat was dry. I will rate it as 3.5 if I could. The girl who served us was very service oriented and welcoming. Price wise, considered as acceptable but not cheap.

It is a very popular eatery. Tables are relatively close together. Unsuitable for people who are easily overstimulated, as it is a cacophony of sound. We did not find this disturbing. The food is fresh but lacks distinctive flavor. For example: eggplant gets its flavor from being coated in hot peppers (sambal), but not from other spices. The food we had was mostly dry without any sauce-like additions. However, this does not apply to the nasi goreng with chicken satay. The satay sauce was very tasty. We are not alcohol drinkers, but those who do enjoy it are out of luck. Alcohol is not available. The price-quality/quantity ratio is not balanced and is therefore too high.

I like eating here because the nasi Padang tastes very close to what you find in Indonesia. However, a few days ago i had a disappointing experience with the service. My friend and i came without a reservation during a busy time, and the place was very full. We asked if there was a table for two, and the staff member replied, “It’s full, full fulll, you can eat outside if you want,” even though it was cold and windy. So we decided to order takeaway instead. While we were ordering, a few other people came in and queued behind us. They were also asked if they had a reservation and said no. But this time, the staff said, “That’s okay, please wait—there’s a table that will be free soon.” The same thing happened for the next customers as well. That made me wonder why we weren’t given the same option, because we would have been happy to wait. In the end, i decided that i won’t be coming back here again.

Warung Padang Lapek, Den Haag. This is Indonesian spicy — the kind that makes you reconsider your life choices halfway through a bite. Be honest with the crew. They’ve seen things. That said… it tastes like Indonesia. Properly. No shortcuts, no compromise. Yes, it’s a bit pricey. No, you may not convert it to rupiah for emotional comfort. Plenty of space, no elbow fights. Nasi Padang saji is dangerous. You’ll suffer, but willingly.

We ended up at this restaurant by chance. We hadn't made a reservation, but we were welcomed warmly and could take a seat at the table immediately. It felt comfortable right from the moment we entered. What a lovely, warm welcome; it really felt like being in Indonesia for a moment. We had a truly delicious meal. The dishes were prepared authentically, and the spices had soaked well into the meat. The sate kambing was truly delicious! The other dishes we ordered were delicious too. Best rendang I have ever eaten, will definitely come back here!

Based on reviews and recommendations from various people, I went to eat here once. I ordered nasi goreng with satay kambing. My order was brought to the table very quickly. As a garnish, I received some iceberg lettuce, 3 cubes of cucumber, a very small tomato, and 3 pieces of prawn crackers! The nasi goreng had absolutely no taste. The satay kambing (lamb) had been prepared earlier and apparently reheated in the microwave; it was very dry and tough. I am a true fan of satay kambing (preferably real goat meat!), and I have eaten this dish in various other restaurants in the Netherlands and abroad, but this was by far the worst satay kambing I have ever eaten. And then there was the “ketjap sauce” that was served with it. It didn't taste good and was very sweet! The price-quality ratio is very poor. I am willing to believe that other dishes might have the right flavor, but I will not be visiting this restaurant again.

A padang restaurant in Den Haag. We had to visit it when we heard about it. The food was good, the service efficient. The place does get quite busy and is popular but we managed to get a table. I really enjoyed the soto ayam on a cold wintery evening. They also serve cendol.

After a plate of various dishes, the suffering caused by the spiciness is so great that you want to commit euthanasia. However, it really is just very tasty!

We got scammed and + they were totally impolite. They hurry us to take a meal and the girl didn't speak english she only want to speak indonesians to my girlfriend (who is indonésians). So we could understand what was happening. We took a meal who is explicitly written for 2 person. And when we had to pay we had to pay twice for every person who was clearly not indicate. Plus we clearly said that we want 1 of the meal for 2 person, so why making us pay twice the meal ? It's a total scam for playing on words on the menu, and they were very not welcoming. Finally found a decent Indo food in Den Haag. First, everything had enough spices in them. Second, for dishes like rendang, it had enough heat w/o being overwhelming. Third, everything tasted like they were freshly made. Having said all that, I still think the prices were a little high compared to LA. Regardless, if you're hankering for some Indo food, come by and say hi to the Ibu. To the owner of this restaurant, most Americans use Yelp, and your restaurant does not show up on Yelp.

The food taste was really good, even for someone that grows up in Manadonese family and maybe because i've been living on Germany for too long that my spice tolerance went down, it was so hot but still delicious though. the atmosphere was nice because they played a lot of old Indonesian music, but the price was a on the pricey side compared to other Indonesian restaurant that i have tried. the let down was the service, this is my opinion but it's not the level of Indonesian hospitality. We are known for always smiling whenever we go, but the service doesn't do that at all and when we went to the cashier, the one that works there just give us a single bill without even saying anything. Imagine going to the cashier and suddenly they just handed over the bill already printed all together without asking anything. After receiving the bill, i asked her politely "sorry, can we pay separately?" and she straight up said "No, it doesn't work like that here!" like what? i never experience this in any restaurant i've been to, even in Europe.

When I heard that the spiciest, most authentic Indonesian food in The Hague was here, I ran to try it. 🔥 RAN. 🏃‍♀️ I had read a whole thread about how this place has absolutely victimized unsuspecting Dutch people with their heat level—which sounded like music to my ears. 🌶️ Was it spicy? Yes. Did I specifically ask which dishes were the hottest and basically dare them to hurt me with spice? Also yes. (Menu items 1, 16, and 17, FYI.) If you’re looking to break out of Dutch-spicy, this is the place to do it. 🥵

This restaurant lived up to all our expectations: the food was excellent, the service very friendly and responsive, and the prices quite reasonable. The restaurant had a great, warm atmosphere. We recommend making a reservation to avoid the crowds, as the restaurant seems very popular. It was a pleasure to discover Indonesian cuisine here!

Good food and service but when we went to pay they said they only take cash. There’s no clear signs outside the building stating that it’s cash only and they only pointed at a tiny sign once we went up to pay for our food. Thankfully we were ably to transfer money to a Dutch bank account but could be a challenge for tourists if they do t bring a bank card with them.

We went here on the advice of friends, because it was authentic. It was disappointing. My partner is Indonesian, so I have a lot of experience. They take it easy, everyone gets the same bowl of rice, and there's no choice of bami, longton, etc. My partner is from Sumatra, but he didn't recognize any of the flavors. There are containers of pre-cooked food that they add to the rice. I've read in some reviews that it's pedis, well, that's not so bad. The staff is yelling at each other. You can't order alcoholic drinks. The place has a lackluster atmosphere. Luckily, there are better Indonesian restaurants in The Hague; we'll go there again next time; this was a one-off.

Highly recommended! Not your typical Indonesian dishes known in the Netherlands. Delicious traditional food. We had the Nasi Padang Komplit, Nasi Ayam Goreng Padang, and Sate Kambing. Everything was delicious. It's highly recommended to order the Nasi Padang Komplit or Nasi Padang Hidang so you can try a bit of everything. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back!

I'd indicated I didn't want anything spicy, and the guy at the counter said he'd pass this on. I ended up taking the food home, and it was incredibly spicy. Wow, oh my. I'm not one to complain, but this gave me such a stomach ache. I really don't think this is acceptable! Imagine having a medical condition and going out for a nice meal, only to end up in the hospital. Thanks for nothing.

Ate here today. What a disappointment. I don't understand why people rate this restaurant highly. It has a lackluster atmosphere, like a McDonald's, everything is focused on maximizing revenue. The food tastes good, though it's true Sumatra, and they only charge €20.50 for a plate of food where rice is the main ingredient. I definitely don't recommend this restaurant and certainly won't be eating there again.

One of the best nasi Padang I've ever eaten in my life (I'm Indonesian) during my 6 month stay in the Netherlands, every month I always come to eat. The meat (Rendang and dendeng) was so tender, literally everything was cooked to perfection. If this was someone, I would have blownblewbleww😋. The mixed ice and durian stoned ice are also not as deep pssss... The staffs are also very warm and nice, making this a very pleasant experience. I suggest you to reserve a spot before you come because it can get pretty busy especially on the weekends. Thank you Lapek, you will be missed💋😢

Samen met familie voortreffelijk gegeten in dit Padang restaurant. Hemelse authentieke pittige Sumatraanse gerechten, zo karakteristiek voor de padangkeuken. Geen aanpassingen aan de westerse smaak. Met een gedurfde en zeer gevarieerde kaart was ons diner een ware smaakbeleving en deed ons terugdenken aan onze vele reizen naar Indonesië en aan Sumatra in het bijzonder. Een echte aanrader, we gaan er zeker terug!

The reception by the woman with glasses was cold. I found two hairs on my plate... There was not enough rice or meat. Very expensive for what it is, almost €20 for a classic dish.
