What a cozy restaurant with friendly staff. Nice decor and a superb kitchen with delicious dishes. Definitely worth a return visit.

Very affordable with tasty pancakes!

We regularly visit this restaurant because our children love the food here. This was our first time in the new restaurant, which looks very nice and inviting. The service is also very friendly and helpful. Our only complaint is that the parking lot is very busy because there's now a McDonald's in the same building.

A beautiful building. It gives the impression of a luxury restaurant, right next to the highway. Friendly service; the table was prepared immediately when we told them we didn't have a reservation. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. Plenty of choices, something for everyone.

Dear owner, I rarely, if ever, leave reviews, but unfortunately felt the need to do so for this restaurant. I hope you don't immediately think I'm complaining, but I hereby share my honest opinion and experience. I'd like to begin by thanking you for the warm and friendly welcome. We were warmly welcomed and told to wait a short while for a table at the bar. We were given a lovely, cozy table! Afterward, a young woman greeted us and took our orders. Drinks went smoothly, but there was a considerable delay between ordering drinks and dinner. Unfortunately, it took so long that we had to take the initiative to order ourselves. We asked to order, which thankfully went smoothly, and in the meantime, another server asked for another drink. We noticed a significant difference in the staff's effort. We found this quite remarkable, and we were somewhat bothered by the staff's less efficient behavior. We followed her for a long time, and she often stood still and rarely looked at the guests. When we received our food, we were very impressed and it tasted very good. Unfortunately, my chicken breast was still a bit raw inside, which was a bit of a drawback. We were served fries and enjoyed them so much that we asked for more. Something went wrong here, as they were passed on, but our server forgot. Because of this, we had to ask again. This took far too long, and we were already finished eating before we received the fries. This was very mediocre and a shame. The company also lost revenue because we weren't asked again for drinks. Overall, we found the staff to be quite unfriendly. The atmosphere was very pleasant, and the food looked well-prepared! It was a shame about the experience with our server that evening.

Food is delicious and very nice the service is also good

When you arrive as a driver, there's no room, it's completely packed. It looks great, but there wasn't room for real drivers. All the people who normally never eat out. It's great that things are going well after the renovation, but Lichtmis is no longer a truckers' cafe.

Recently reopened after a fire destroyed the entire restaurant. New restaurant, beautifully decorated while retaining its charm as a truck stop.

A lovely, atmospheric restaurant, but the service deserves a big fail! We had to ask if we could order anything else after we'd already been sitting for a while. Apparently, the staff preferred to eat something themselves and chat behind the bar. We ordered a cappuccino and finally received it after a long wait. When we pointed out that we'd been waiting a long time, we received an inappropriate comment. It turned out there wasn't any sugar, but it tasted fine without it. After waiting a while longer, lunch arrived. The food was delicious. When we paid, we were asked if we were satisfied. We told him the whole story. He (we hadn't had him at our table, so he didn't know anything) said he would take it up with his colleagues because he felt very sorry for us. Of all the waitstaff, he was the only one who seemed to take his job seriously and was enthusiastic, etc. I also said I wanted to tip for the food, but it's about the overall experience, so no tip. Basically, they don't see us here anymore, they'd rather have a pistol from the gas station... What I also found very strange was that the toilets are upstairs... up the stairs...

We were hoping to have lunch at this beautiful, newly renovated restaurant on our way to Groningen. However, there's nothing (yet) on the menu for vegetarians and/or vegans. Too bad!! So, not suitable for us. So we just stuck with coffee ☕️ It was okay! The staff is friendly! Prices are steep for those who do find something tasty on the menu! 🙄 We'll keep driving from now on 🚘

Unfortunately... the place looks very cozy, so let's see what the food will be like. With Herman den Blijker as the opening guest, it must be pretty good, right? Unfortunately again... 91 euros for: a medium-rare Candlemas steak, which was way too red, a piece even raw. A chicken satay was deliciously warm, but part of it was hard and dry on the outside. Perhaps because it had been sitting too warm somewhere? Under a heat source? The biggest disappointment was the Candlemas platter as a starter. 15 euros per person! For two prawns, one small bowl (the size of a tea bag dish) of carpaccio, a small bowl of thinly sliced ​​brie, olives (they looked like olives from a glass bottle in a Christmas hamper), and two small pieces of spare ribs that were so terribly dry! Luckily, the two pre-baked rolls were warm. It was so little that even 15 euros for the entire platter would be absurdly overpriced, let alone 30 euros! The staff indicated that guests had already made that comment. We didn't dare try dessert. Off to go home for coffee! We won't be eating at Lichtmis again. It's a shame, it looks so cozy... too expensive, too bad, too little.

We had Candlemas dinner with three colleagues this evening, and we weren't particularly impressed. We waited 15 minutes for our beer, were told the bar was super busy, even though the restaurant was half empty. We received our main course without fries and vegetables, which we didn't receive until half of the main course was finished. Finally, we ordered a cappuccino, which they don't add sugar to! A missed opportunity.

Best place to eat only parking for trucks not much space

Ate meatball and fries, meatball, excellent fries, very poor quality, price with peanut sauce and mayonnaise, cola 15.40 euros, I think it's too expensive

For truck drivers: There are about 10 parking spaces that are almost always empty. Parking costs €35/day. For each day you get a €15 voucher that you can use in the restaurant. The parking price includes shower/toilet. The showers are spacious and clean. The toilets too. There is also a McDonalds in the parking lot. (You can't use the voucher there) 👎 I wanted to order something to take away but was refused because they were too crowded! I said I would come back later. When I came back, the person who was seating people at the tables rolled his eyes and refused me again, this time saying that they didn't have takeaway packages. In the end I was offered the option to eat in the restaurant The food was ok, except for the fries which were very hard and full of oil. The waiters were very nice, they spoke English. Overall it was an ok experience. If you park here I recommend using the voucher at lunch. It is very crowded in the evening, especially on weekends

Just now, on December 10, 2025, around 12:45 PM, I had a special "uitsmijter" (fried eggs) at the new Lichtmis restaurant. (See photo) If this is a special, I wonder what you get if you order a regular "uitsmijter" (fried eggs). I also shared my complaints with the staff, and the chef wasn't impressed and replied that only people who have complaints write reviews. He was also aware of my previous review, as it was the same chef. I'll never go back, and I told the staff that. I can eat better and cheaper elsewhere. Just now, on November 19, 2025, around 11:00 AM, I had coffee at the new Lichtmis restaurant. It's become a beautiful restaurant, but the service was mediocre. I didn't get milk with my first cup of coffee and had to get it myself. When I ordered my second cup of coffee, I mentioned this and asked if I could get milk with this one. I was told it used to be on the table but wasn't allowed anymore, which doesn't seem like my problem. I had to ask again where my coffee was because the staff had forgotten it, and when it did arrive, it was out of milk again. When I paid, I also mentioned this to the owner, who called it teething problems. When I asked if she had underestimated how busy it would be, she replied that it was difficult to find staff. I also wanted to eat something, but I decided against it. It's become a beautiful restaurant, but if the service continues like this, I'll eat somewhere else.

Just as delicious as in the pavilion

The bread basket was forgotten, the main courses were tasty but not warm. We had to ask for cutlery. After the main course, the table was cleared, including the glasses. We only had one drink. We had to ask for the dessert menu ourselves. We also had a long wait for dessert. The tiramisu wasn't as promised on the menu. All in all, not a meal worth repeating.

It has turned out beautifully, it is an asset to the region and the atmosphere has not been lost compared to before the fire or the years in the shack/log cabin.

The day after the grand opening, the new building was pushed back into place at Lichtmis, a place we love to visit. The new building is beautiful and a joy to visit. We had a delicious steak.

This afternoon we had lunch at Lichtmis, a nice new roadside restaurant with friendly service, but we had a few complaints about what we had. In our opinion, the price-quality ratio was absurd, and negative. I ordered orange juice and got a glass of Aldi-quality orange juice from a 1-liter carton. And to charge €4.75 for it was simply absurd. I also had Loades fries/meatball, where the meatball pieces were old and tough, and the portion of fries was very small, and certainly not above average quality. My partner had a toasted sandwich and a glass of tea. Total bill was €34.70. They just opened in their new building, but for now, I'll drive a bit further for lunch.

It turned out to be a very nice and cozy restaurant. The service and food were excellent.

I ordered the fried egg carpaccio and my mother the salmon pinsa. My food was decent, but my mother's pinsa was downright terrible. The pinsa was soggy and tough, the salmon very dry, and there was very little salmon on it. I mentioned this afterward, and they simply said, "It's a shame it wasn't to your liking, better luck next time." It had nothing to do with the taste, but everything to do with the quality of the food. We eat pinsa regularly and therefore know what it should taste like. The price-quality ratio was therefore abysmal. But the worst part was that our complaint was ignored; nothing was done about it. We really didn't expect compensation, but at least they should take the complaint seriously instead of brushing it aside. The staff was generally very friendly, except for one person who dealt with our complaint. For me, that's a reason not to come back.

After a visit to Slagharen, we unexpectedly ate here, considering it's a "roadside restaurant" (a pop-up because the new one isn't ready yet), and the food was really delicious! The food is served quickly, the quality is good, and the service is friendly. There's a small play area for the (young) children. We'll be back when the new building is finished!

Temporary accommodation was well arranged. I used to come here often in the old building...always excellent meals. Definitely recommended!

Last year, it burned down, and I was surprised they were building next door, and the food was delicious, just like in the old days. Update: It's going fast now that everything is closed, and wood has been placed on the facades, and a wooden pergola was already there. The food was delicious again.

Delicious food and atmosphere. Super motivated staff. Reasonable prices. Reservations are recommended if you're coming with a large group. They often find a spot/table if you just walk in.

There's a new building under construction on the square, probably a McDonald's, but parking on the left side is easy. There's plenty of space around 3-4 p.m., and around 7-8 p.m., there's probably no need to bother (at least on Tuesdays). We pay €35 for parking at the ticket office and get a €15 bar voucher. Most dishes cost an extra fee. The burger was edible, but not mind-blowing. A burger and a small beer cost less than €21. The service was very friendly and pleasant. Showers and toilets are available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., but closed at night. In the morning, before the restaurant opens, there's coffee in the "bain-marie" in the lobby—a very nice touch. It's peaceful and quiet at night. I recommend it!

We ate here unexpectedly, but I highly recommend it! It's a temporary location, but the decor is fantastic, and there's even a terrace outside. We received a warm welcome, and the atmosphere inside was great. And the food and drinks were served quickly. It tasted fantastic! We'll definitely be back!😁

Every year on the way to the TT we have a cup of coffee here. Unfortunately, nowadays it is mandatory to sit at a table, no more coffee and a cookie outside at the stall. Last Sunday after our order of 2 coffees with apple pie we had to wait 25 minutes until we got it....... It was not extremely busy at 8.05 am. Not to mention the price. After about 40 times this was the last one, next TT just one door further.

As a racing cyclist I came here for a coffee/cake stop. The friendly waiter immediately asked if he could refill my water bottle with ice water because it was warm. Now that's what I call service and I really appreciate it. TOP

Just a good drivers restaurant. No nonsense, just what you need.

The 2nd time I came here, I didn't regret it at all, +2€ extra, large portions, everything is delicious, shawarma without a pancake on a plate is great, keep it up. Minus the washing machine didn't accept the PKO card, the program froze, no one could try any further. The service will fix everything, but keep that in mind.

Despite the temporary building there is still atmosphere. And it is all about the food and that is fine.

The food was okay, but unfortunately the beef steak was cold. I informed the server, and they warmed it up. The server was in a pretty bad mood afterward, and I couldn't understand why. I didn't blame anyone, I just said it was cold. One positive thing to mention is that you can order side dishes for free.
