I'm from elsewhere, but I've been regularly visiting Zwolle and the surrounding area for years for a day trip. A very pleasant city in many ways. Enjoy an excellent lunch at Restaurant Het Engelse Werk. * Beautifully situated on the edge of the eponymous Parkbos with a view of the IJssel River. * Ample free parking. * An excellent lunch choice, and I especially recommend the 'Chef's sandwich', which is often a new surprise. * Everything is clean and tidy, as are the very spacious, modern restrooms. * The service is attentive, hospitable, fast, and accurate. * The price/quality ratio is undeniably excellent. * Various rooms can be reserved for group events. × Several terraces around the building. In short, a pleasant place to spend time, whether as a place of rest, relaxation, or a starting point, etc. Highly recommended! Ed Jansen

The selection and quality of the lunches are – in my opinion – good. What's lacking is clear communication on the website about dogs in the restaurant. The website states that dogs are allowed. This is partly true. They are welcome in the conservatory built onto the outside of the restaurant. Tip: make this clear to new dog owners or new guests.

Celebrated our mother's birthday for the fourth time. 91 years old. A fantastic dinner with excellent fish. Wonderful food. Compliments to the staff, the chef, and everyone who made it a wonderful party for us.

We sat on the terrace and weren't served. We went to the counter to ask if we could get coffee, which eventually arrived. We asked if we could also have lunch there. The lunch menu wasn't brought. After waiting 20 minutes, we went back to the counter to ask if we could get the lunch menu. Another 10-minute wait. Then I saw that a large group of guests who had arrived well after us had received lunch menus. After waiting 45 minutes and one cup of coffee, we left without lunch. We did receive an apology (it was busy).

This week I ate after a previous good experience, but it took a huge turn for the worse. The carpaccio was floating in dressing and looked unappetizing, and I've never eaten such poorly cooked cutlet. It looked bloated; I stabbed it, and the crust just fell off. Then a cone of disgusting fries with their skins on—brrr, it looked awful. The salad was a small container of penne pasta with a clump of lamb's lettuce on top. So unappetizing. A real waste of money. So I skipped dessert. They won't be seeing us again.

Hey everyone, this is a great place! Beautiful views, but that's not all! Fresh cakes baked by a mother of staff, and delicious fresh dishes, made with taste and impeccable hygiene. Clean restrooms and wonderfully friendly service, all for a great price. I love coming in the winter for the fresh pea soup with sausage and in the summer for a delicious sorbet! Pancakes, or all sorts of mini snacks—you name it! And good coffee and tea! A solid 10 out of 10! Top location!

This is the view from Het Engelse Werk for 2025 season, no picnic tables, just cars and bikes, no view to the river, just a simple “garden” in the back of the house to make it more private. That’s all, the magic is gone, it was nice to sit here and observe the Ijssel and the people enjoying outside…. Helaas niet meer

Had a lovely lunch on the terrace. The crispy chicken wrap is highly recommended! Due to the varying reviews about whether dogs are welcome, I left my dog ​​at home. There were other dogs on the terrace and there was a drinking bowl for dogs at the entrance. The terrace was quite full (first lovely spring day), yet fast service.

The gravy with strawberries is unsurpassed! It's just a pity that you also pay the top price for it... There is little else to complain about, the service is polite, friendly and sufficiently present. Lunch was excellent!

Because we had a dog with us, we were not allowed to sit inside, but outside under a tarpaulin. Fortunately there was a heater. Another gentleman also wanted to have a cup of coffee there, outside, and asked if the heater could be turned on. The waitress informed him that they don't do that for people who don't have a dog with them... well. It also took an awfully long time for the order to be taken. We just weren't in the picture. Two more people came to sit with a dog. Near "our" heater. When we had paid and were getting ready to leave, they quickly turned off the heater, while the other people were still there. WHAT A GUEST-FRIENDLY RESTAURANT. I certainly wouldn't recommend it. Cold poop.

We worked and had lunch here. The food was fine. We could not pay separately, even though this was necessary to justify costs. We found this a bit strange.

Nice location, but lunch was poor. A plate of fries with home-made meatball and salad. What a bad meatball, full of breadcrumbs, poorly seasoned not mixed properly. That you mention something like that from your own kitchen. Salad was 3 leaves and 2 pasta shells. Fries with croquette are 10th and with meatball 14th. Then you expect a quality meatball. I don't care about the price, I do care about the quality and unfortunately it isn't there

Nice service, strange payment behavior. I walked in to pay with the gentleman with gray hair/glasses. The gentleman asks for the receipt, which I forgot to bring. Then, to my pleasure, the gentleman asks where we were sitting. I point to and describe the place where we were sitting; whereupon the gentleman sighs and says: I can't see that from here, can I? Then I add; at the lady with the red coat (clearly visible through the window). Same reaction again. I don't understand what else I should have answered when asked where we were sitting. I'm also not afraid to get the receipt, but I thought because of the question that it was not necessary. I walk outside to get the receipt and halfway through the gentleman has suddenly found the correct order. Then I pay the bill, after which the gentleman wishes me a nice day in a strange tone. Felt very unfair. I am someone who avoids conflicts, but I will not let myself be dismissed in such a way. Certainly not as a paying customer. It is best to be a bit more modest as a host. It's also nice that the sighing gentleman wastes the waiter's deserved tip in one go. Nice day!

Delicious food for a good price for a three course dinner. This restaurant is highly recommended. Artfully made salmon steak. And a beautiful piece of brisket meat that melts in your mouth.

At first it looked inviting. After taking a seat we were greeted kindly. We first ordered 2 cappuccinos and after making our choice, we ordered the chicken wrap twice. A little later I asked the man with glasses who was recording everything on the terrace if I could have a glass of water to take my medication. I had to get that myself or order something again. I pointed out my back problems and that we just ordered our food. Showing no understanding, it was once again made clear to me that I had to either pick it up myself or order extra. This is customer unfriendly and therefore substandard service. A little later a servant comes and takes our cups of cappuccino and asked if we wanted something else to drink. So no, after no flexible attitude from her colleague. As she walks away I realize that my cup was not completely empty yet. My annoyance was so bad that I just didn't bring it up. Eat and pay as quickly as possible. This was also only possible indoors. Paying by card at the table is also unknown. I always tip generously for good service, but not here

It is a beautiful location for me, a memory center of my youth. The coffee and food are excellent, but the friendliness of the staff leaves much to be desired.

Good thing, very nice place, but the service is not great, my full glass had fallen over and they clean it up nicely but no new one is brought, that would be kind. You can't pay at the table, which is a bit old-fashioned, but I personally don't think that's such a disaster. Splitting the bill is possible, but with special rules. I haven't done it myself, but hey, hanging out with your friends isn't that bad either. A big plus is that they give free water with ice cubes if you order something to eat. I think that is very customer friendly!

To our surprise we could not find food for a 2 year old child. When asked, the man at the counter said that they do not have a children's menu and that she could eat mini frikadellen, for example. As if a child only eats snacks... unfortunately half a portion or something similar. also not possible. When we commented on whether it might be an idea to put something for children on the menu, we received the slightly irritated response "I would remember it". The food, on the other hand, was nothing special. Bouncer consisted of a lot of toppings and little egg. I'll keep the rest to myself and won't describe it further in the review... they still have a lot to learn about customer-friendly as far as I'm concerned.

Got there at 6:50 pm and they close at 8:00pm. The waiter, (a guy)🤔 did not go to my table for more than 15 minutes, I got up went inside paid for my drink and he didn't say sorry or anything, just say goodbye . I understand, it's Saturday and he was tired, but the restaurant add in Google maps says 8:00pm. Will never be back.

We had a very successful party here on the beautiful terrace at the rear. We opted for the luxurious buffet and it was well worth the money. Delicious luxurious dishes, simply perfect. The staff was very friendly. It was still warm and a lot of sun, they had bought extra parasols. Thank you all for the good service 🎊🤗

- Prachtige locatie, zeker als het weer toelaat buiten te zitten: mooi uitzicht. Je kunt ook nog heerlijk even in het park of langs het water lopen. - Gezellige opzet buiten: op terras (bediening) of picknickbanken (zelf binnen bestellen/halen - ze zouden dat wel iets helderder op een leuke manier kunnen aangeven voor wie aan komt wandelen. - Salade gegeten: veel en rijk gevarieerd aan ingrediënten, heerlijk, alleen wat veel waterig vocht onderin, beetje nattige boel - Geserveerd met een mandje brood ernaast; ik vond dat sympathiek - Verbazing; ik vroeg of ze grote cappuccino hebben (want bij 'koffie' stond die keuze er). De ober zei van niet, maar "het is sowieso een behoorlijke bak". Wel, dat was het niet. Een doodgewoon minimokje, niet meer of beter dan wat je in de supermarkt krijgt aangeboden. - Erg jammer: cafeïnevrije koffie is duurder dan gewoon. Dat doen maar weinig restaurants, ik vind het altijd wat kinderachtig. - Nog grotere verbazing; ik las (na mijn bestelling van de koffie) op de kaart dat een glas water kan worden gevraagd bij een consumptie. Het was een hete dag. De koffie werd gebracht, en ik bestelde eten en vroeg een glas water. Dat kon niet, hij ging daar niet apart voor lopen. Oh, ik bestel toch iets te eten... kom je niet sowieso nog terug? Nee, echt alleen indien tegelijkertijd gevraagd bij bestelling van drinken. Vijf minuten later arriveert er een stel aan het tafeltje naast mij. Zij bestellen iets te drinken en hij biedt aan! "glas water erbij?" Nou ja. Weer vijf minuten later komt hij inderdaad met mijn eten, zonder water (hij had zich dus niet bedacht). Ik snap dat je niet apart met gratis water gaat slepen naar allerlei gasten, maar gezien de hele gang van zaken vond ik dit hele gedoe en de "stellige strengheid" waarmee het gebracht werd echt klantonvriendelijk.

We went here for lunch. We sat in the side outside part of the restaurant. We were satisfied with the food because it was really tasty. However, the young man at the counter still has something to learn in terms of politeness. My wife preferred no sauce on her dish, but that was difficult because nothing could be adjusted. I thought that was a bit strange, but that wasn't the worst part. Behind us, 8 elderly ladies had sat down and 1 had not heard clearly what the meal of the day was. The lady in question asked again what the meal of the day was, after which the young man at the counter said in a very rude tone: "I just explained it all" and walked away. The ladies behind us were quite bewildered. Here too, 1 lady wanted a small adjustment, but that was not possible either. The food was really delicious but this young man still has something to learn.

We had reserved a table for 6 adults and a child of less than 2 years old. On July 9, 2024 we arrived at the agreed time, 5:30 PM. It was a warm evening and it was quite quiet. There were 2 groups, 1 outside and 1 inside. Upon arrival I indicated that we had reserved a table in my name. The waiter said: "You can take a seat outside and push 2 tables together yourself". Our surprise was great, we had made a reservation after all and would still have to push tables together ourselves? I replied that rain was forecast around 8pm and I would like to sit inside. The waiter rushed to 2 tables and placed them next to each other. We then asked for a high chair, it was replaced by an increase on the existing chair and it was satisfied. I walked to the bar and asked if they had something for my grandchild to play with. The waiter behind the bar immediately understood what I meant and provided a coloring page with pencils. Top! The drinks came quickly and when ordering dinner, I asked if they also had a children's menu. They didn't have that. There was a plate on the wall with another dish, a pasta dish with salmon for Euro 18.00. I asked the waiter if it could also be made into a smaller (half or quarter) portion for my granddaughter. That was certainly possible, but he immediately indicated that nothing would be deducted from the price. Amazement already! He suggested we order a frikandel with fries. We only ordered the frikandel. She ate a few pieces and shared the rest with the other guests. We finished with a delicious dessert. All in all, we had imagined our arrival and dinner very differently, but with the beautiful view of the IJssel and the beautiful weather, our wedding day celebration was still a success.

Had coffee with the Tour Club Holten

Had lunch here with company. We ordered the same thing and yet we didn't have exactly the same thing on our plate. He had extra things on it that I didn't have on it. There were enough staff around so that can't be the cause. Burger almost fell apart when you stuck your fork in it. I don't think the price/quality ratio is in proportion.
