It was very pleasant on the terrace. I had bread with a croquette. A small amount of salad. A glass of white wine with it. Maybe a tastier brown bread?

Lovely place to have a drink or a bite to eat. Friendly staff, beautiful location. Parking can be a problem in nice weather.

Nice place to sit! The coffee could be a bit better, but they had a delicious homemade cream flan made by the mother! So highly recommended! First a nice walk through the English Gardens and then on the terrace.

Lunch was tasty, affordable, and served quickly. On a sunny Sunday afternoon, it was very busy, also with cars and cyclists all looking for a spot. We were on our way back to Haarlem and look back on this visit with pleasure.

I come from elsewhere, but have been visiting Zwolle regularly for a day trip for years. A very pleasant city in many respects. I prefer to enjoy an excellent lunch at Restaurant Het Engelse Werk. * Beautifully situated on the edge of the Parkbos of the same name, with a view of the IJssel and the various bridges. * Ample free parking space. * Everything is clean and tidy, as are the very spacious modern restrooms. * The service is alert, hospitable, fast, and correct. * The price/quality ratio is undeniably good. * The various rooms can also be reserved for group events. * There are several terraces around the building, each with its own decor. LUNCH SELECTION....Excellent! My favorites: 1. Chef's sandwich. Changes! 2. Waldkorn Carpaccio sandwich 3. Black Angus Beefburger. 4. Fried Egg Carpaccio or prosciutto In short, a pleasant place to spend time in any form as... a resting point, a place to enjoy, a starting point, to celebrate something, etc. etc. Highly recommended! An exceptionally pleasant establishment, a lovely place to grab lunch. Although it was very busy, we were welcomed very warmly. The service was nice and efficient. The lunch was excellent: fresh ingredients, well prepared, and generous portions. Highly recommended.

We had dinner there last Thursday with 4 people and it was delicious and the service was absolutely top-notch.

The food is mediocre... the kibbeling is very bad. Not fresh... from the freezer... not recommended.

It has a lovely setting. The food tastes good, but if you order a Plate with salad on the side, I expect more than 2 lettuce leaves. I also got someone else's bowl, but even the two portions are not enough to warrant mentioning it on the menu. The chicken was nice and crispy.

Normally I don't post reviews, but I just have to... Today I went for a short bike ride with my PGB girl on the wheelchair bike. Because the Zwolle-Hattem bridge is out of service and business is therefore lower, I thought I'd have a quick drink here to support the business. Since the wheelchair is attached to the bike, I placed it on the terrace in consultation with an employee, but there was no shade there. So I moved so that the chair would actually be in the shade. There were 5 people sitting on the outdoor terrace. Unfortunately, the owner felt it necessary to speak to me about the bike being in the way and that it was impossible for the staff to walk around it by 5 meters. And look at that: 30 cyclists arrived at the same time... After a lot of back-and-forth arguing, by the grace of God I was told "do what you want." The staff didn't seem to mind much, and the guests were just happy that we were sitting on the terrace. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back. Being inclusive can also mean offering an alternative, but this was downright disrespectful.

Lovely place to unwind after a walk. Homemade cake. And not excessively expensive. Ample parking. Within easy walking distance of the station, but an OV-fiets (public transport bike) is a nice addition because the area is also beautiful for cycling. Right in the middle of Het Engelse Werk. Also a nice, safe spot for a first date.

Recommended by my boss (Harry from the thrift store), excellent restaurant, definitely worth a return visit. Heading back soon. Highly recommended 👍👍👍

We come here often because of the beautiful location. You are served in a friendly manner by people who really do their best, but you don't need to come here for the food.

The food itself (good) All starters were tasty and the bread beforehand only the tortilla had very little chicken in it… lots of vegetables The Wiener schnitzel came apart from the crust and meat The salmon was delicious !!! And eating with five people, only 1 cone of fries with half a container of salad That is really unacceptable !!!! You can order more for free.. did that but wait so long that everything else on the plate is already finished For 5 people, you put 2 portions of fries and 2 full salads down in advance… during the meal, tables and chairs were being moved around to our left… which was unpleasant to hear and she even started sweeping that spot with a broom… while we were eating… talk about hygiene The staff could be a bit more sociable at the table for our liking.... On top of that, the bill was very high !!!!

Yesterday, April 26, 2026, we had a birthday party for our mother, who turned 90, at the Bakker-Krisman family's. It was well organized, the service was superb, and the food was good. We were able to sit outside at first, and luckily the sun was shining brightly. We had the hall at 3:30 PM, so we skipped coffee and went straight for a drink. No problem at all for the men and women of the service staff. It was a very pleasant afternoon. Our parents used to visit Johan Krisman often, so we spoke briefly with the grandson about this. Details… All in all, it is certainly worth repeating to host another party here in the future.

The chicken satay isn't made with chicken thighs, but rather pre-made. The sweet nachos were delicious. The vegetables and fries weren't enough for two people. We had a wonderful time with drinks and a delicious meal. They're happy to help with options for picky eaters.

We had lunch here with a group of 11 people. We made a reservation in advance by email, where we also received clear information about the lunch. The lunch was well-prepared, and we enjoyed it. As a group, we were allowed to eat in a small room, which was beautifully and atmospherically decorated. After an afternoon walk right around and near the restaurant, we had a drink and/or enjoyed a tasty snack here. Everything was well-organized and definitely worth doing again. Parking is available next to and near the restaurant, although there aren't many parking spaces. Sometimes you have to be creative and park on the side of the access road.

The selection and quality of the lunches are – in my opinion – good. What's lacking is clear communication on the website about dogs in the restaurant. The website states that dogs are allowed. This is partly true. They are welcome in the conservatory built onto the outside of the restaurant. Tip: make this clear to new dog owners or new guests.

Celebrated our mother's birthday for the fourth time. 91 years old. A fantastic dinner with excellent fish. Wonderful food. Compliments to the staff, the chef, and everyone who made it a wonderful party for us.

It’s a shame that such a tasteless meal is served in this beautiful place.

We sat on the terrace and weren't served. We went to the counter to ask if we could get coffee, which eventually arrived. We asked if we could also have lunch there. The lunch menu wasn't brought. After waiting 20 minutes, we went back to the counter to ask if we could get the lunch menu. Another 10-minute wait. Then I saw that a large group of guests who had arrived well after us had received lunch menus. After waiting 45 minutes and one cup of coffee, we left without lunch. We did receive an apology (it was busy).

This week I ate after a previous good experience, but it took a huge turn for the worse. The carpaccio was floating in dressing and looked unappetizing, and I've never eaten such poorly cooked cutlet. It looked bloated; I stabbed it, and the crust just fell off. Then a cone of disgusting fries with their skins on—brrr, it looked awful. The salad was a small container of penne pasta with a clump of lamb's lettuce on top. So unappetizing. A real waste of money. So I skipped dessert. They won't be seeing us again.

Hey everyone, this is a great place! Beautiful views, but that's not all! Fresh cakes baked by a mother of staff, and delicious fresh dishes, made with taste and impeccable hygiene. Clean restrooms and wonderfully friendly service, all for a great price. I love coming in the winter for the fresh pea soup with sausage and in the summer for a delicious sorbet! Pancakes, or all sorts of mini snacks—you name it! And good coffee and tea! A solid 10 out of 10! Top location!

That’s all, the magic is gone, it was nice to sit here and observe the Ijssel and the people enjoying outside…. Helaas niet meer

Had a lovely lunch on the terrace. The crispy chicken wrap is highly recommended! Due to the varying reviews about whether dogs are welcome, I left my dog ​​at home. There were other dogs on the terrace and there was a drinking bowl for dogs at the entrance. The terrace was quite full (first lovely spring day), yet fast service.

Because we had a dog with us, we were not allowed to sit inside, but outside under a tarpaulin. Fortunately there was a heater. Another gentleman also wanted to have a cup of coffee there, outside, and asked if the heater could be turned on. The waitress informed him that they don't do that for people who don't have a dog with them... well. It also took an awfully long time for the order to be taken. We just weren't in the picture. Two more people came to sit with a dog. Near "our" heater. When we had paid and were getting ready to leave, they quickly turned off the heater, while the other people were still there. WHAT A GUEST-FRIENDLY RESTAURANT. I certainly wouldn't recommend it. Cold poop.

We worked and had lunch here. The food was fine. We could not pay separately, even though this was necessary to justify costs. We found this a bit strange.

Nice location, but lunch was poor. A plate of fries with home-made meatball and salad. What a bad meatball, full of breadcrumbs, poorly seasoned not mixed properly. That you mention something like that from your own kitchen. Salad was 3 leaves and 2 pasta shells. Fries with croquette are 10th and with meatball 14th. Then you expect a quality meatball. I don't care about the price, I do care about the quality and unfortunately it isn't there

Friendly staff, delicious pastries often homemade, good bean coffee, excellent lunch, tasty soup and an ice cream during the warm weather that you will not forget I am a cappuccino fan myself, if you feel like it, I advise you to really go to a barrista, they have a standard machine.

Nice service, strange payment behavior. I walked in to pay with the gentleman with gray hair/glasses. The gentleman asks for the receipt, which I forgot to bring. Then, to my pleasure, the gentleman asks where we were sitting. I point to and describe the place where we were sitting; whereupon the gentleman sighs and says: I can't see that from here, can I? Then I add; at the lady with the red coat (clearly visible through the window). Same reaction again. I don't understand what else I should have answered when asked where we were sitting. I'm also not afraid to get the receipt, but I thought because of the question that it was not necessary. I walk outside to get the receipt and halfway through the gentleman has suddenly found the correct order. Then I pay the bill, after which the gentleman wishes me a nice day in a strange tone. Felt very unfair. I am someone who avoids conflicts, but I will not let myself be dismissed in such a way. Certainly not as a paying customer. It is best to be a bit more modest as a host. It's also nice that the sighing gentleman wastes the waiter's deserved tip in one go. Nice day!
