I highly recommend eating there. Whether it's lunch, wine and bites, or dinner, the food is delicious. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere perfectly suits the occasion.

Affligem Blond on tap, not cold enough. And because they're busy, they can't serve a bitterganituur on time. It's also very difficult to just quickly add some fat. Too bad. Missed opportunity.

Ben helped us tremendously. One of Ben's colleagues made a mistake with our order. He resolved it very well and in a very friendly manner. We left satisfied. The food and wine were also delicious.

Expensive... Hamburger €18, nothing else served with it: no fries, no salad, nothing. The hamburger is also nothing special; the beef is of mediocre quality. Heineken on tap (in a small vase) €4.80 is also quite expensive. It was at a good temperature, though. Friendly staff who only speak English.

Food took a very long time, wasn't tasty and was very expensive for what you got…

Helaas werden we vergeten en langs heen gekeken door personeel, Half uur gewacht voordat we konden bestellen na zelf hand op steken. tafel werd niet afgeruimd voor het volgende, geen bestek gekregen, bediening over je heen van tafel spullen pakken, niemand vroeg je wat tijdens je zit. Eten was erg goed, waar voor je geld. Laatste jongeman heeft het iets goed gemaakt met afrekenen, vriendelijk.

De kaart was niet heel uitgebreid maar voldoende keuze om vooraf voor diner te reserveren. En de plek is top. Het was prachtig weer, we zaten lekker buiten op het terras, lekkere biertjes erbij en de bediening was allervriendelijkst, tot zo ver geen klachten. Maar (pas) tijdens bestellen bleken de sliptongetjes en de gamba's waar we voor kwamen niet meer voorradig, best gek op een dinsdag nog vroeg in de avond. Onze teleurstelling was duidelijk merkbaar maar weggaan vinden we dan zo onaardig dus bestelden we wat anders waaronder een maaltijdsalade. Deze etende merkten we dat zowel de parmezano als de ansjovis ontbraken, niet ok. De bediening voelde zich duidelijk opgelaten maar verder dan een excuus kwam het niet. En het is niet dat je voor weinig eet, het is er best aan de prijs. Al met al een zeer teleurstellende ervaring, helaas. Een gewaarschuwd mens ......

Waited almost 45 minutes for a meatball sandwich with peanut sauce and fried onions. And when it was served, no onions, but a whole lot of pickled cucumber. Which isn't very tasty, unless you ordered it. (Lots of smokers on the patio)

We had a wonderful meal at De Hoofdwacht, as always, a true gem in the heart of Zwolle. The atmosphere, the service, and especially the food are top-notch. Compliments to Chef Jack for the wonderful flavors and refined presentation. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a meal!

Good location, nice outdoor seating, very limited menu and quite pricey. Basically we just wanted to have a beer and fries and they told us that they only serve fries with a main dish only, meaning you can’t just order fries separately. After we ordered a sandwich, they also told that the kitchen is very busy and unable to make a club sandwich 😬 kinda weird for a brasserie.

Good atmosphere but, you can't order fries. You have to order a main dish in order to become eligible for fries. Club sandwich doesn't include fries as it is not considered as a main dish,and you can't order fries separately. İnteresting service policy.

The cocktails were fine. The kitchen was closed (around lunchtime) and we couldn't order food. After half an hour, we had to make our own arrangements because the alcohol was starting to take effect. The owner (or waiter) then yelled at us loudly about it. Next time, we'll go across the street; they're more hospitable there. This was a terrible experience. Not recommended.

We were shown to a table very quickly, and our order was promptly taken by a girl with blond hair. The staff was friendly, including the man working there. We went with my dad today; highly recommended!

The beer was on tap but already stale. Quite expensive, but otherwise a nice place.

A simple carpaccio sandwich was already too much. After a 30-minute wait, reinforcements arrived in the kitchen and promised to make it quickly. After 45 minutes, the carpaccio was gone, but they got more from a restaurant two minutes away. But after waiting over an hour, we gave up. What a terrible experience and service!

We've been here often and always find it a cozy spot, with a lovely view of the square and the people walking by; perfect for sitting and watching. The food and snacks are a bit pricey, especially compared to other cafes in the area, but the atmosphere more than makes up for it. They recently added a new menu and a surprising number of cocktails. I've tried a few, and they were really good. In short: a nice place to relax and enjoy the surroundings, but expect slightly higher prices.

First, after ordering, we were told that they had no time to serve the main course because of the crowds. Then, after a long wait, we were told that the meat croquettes were gone. They had also asked the neighbors. It was quickly accepted that we did not have to pay for the suitcase and tea. Jos.

Fantastic place for drinks and snacks! Our server, Jack, was absolutely on point with the speed of service and was very insightful in helping us choose the perfect wine. We ordered the cheese platter and I was extremely impressed with the quality of the cheese itself and the presentation. Definitely coming back here soon!

Friendly service. The food was good and the price was reasonable. Unfortunately, there was only one restroom for men and women. The outdoor seating was lovely on Zwolle's Grote Markt, opposite the Glass Angel.

“An experience never to be forgotten (and certainly not to be repeated)” Ah, In Den Hoofdwacht – where time seems to stand still, just like the service. We sat down with a simple dream: a Duvel for one, a tonic for the other. No crazy things. Just drinks. But what did we get? A spiritual exercise in patience, zen and thirst resistance. After just one hour (because who still calculates time in minutes?) we started to suspect that drinks here are delivered on pre-order. Maybe our tonics and Duvels were on their way… from the eighteenth century. Or is everything here brewed, harvested and emotionally processed by hand before being served? The service clearly had a tight schedule: one table per evening. Unfortunately, we were not that table. But hey, the seats were fine and our imagination did the rest – at one point we even thought we heard a glass clink. It turned out to be a bicycle bell outside. If you're looking for a place where you can enjoy nothing but each other's company and your inner thirst, this is the hotspot.

Ordered 2 drinks and the black angus burger and a carpaccio. We received 2 drinks within a normal time. After all, we had already ordered the dishes immediately after ordering the drinks. It took 45 minutes before a colleague came to report that the hamburger could not be made. Apparently it takes them 45 minutes to find out. We just paid for the drinks and left. Uninformed staff. In my opinion a missed opportunity. Not entirely positive. Shame

Worthless place to eat several times, but the waiting time makes no sense and the staff really needs to receive catering training. Excuses about a malfunction with device receipts, waited for hours for food that did not arrive. Shouting at staff before you are helped. Take those empty glasses off the table and ask for a new glass, this place misses everything. Never come here again

Very nice and beautiful location in the center of Zwolle. Unfortunately, we didn't receive our food until an hour and 10 minutes after we ordered it. They had promised us Max half an hour in advance, but we did receive a free drink for this. The food was tasty and a nice atmosphere!

Terribly slow. Wait half an hour for your first drink, an hour and a half for your lunch. Soggy fries and lukewarm wine. Service is too casual. Skip this one!

Yesterday we ate at this restaurant in Zwolle. Friendly staff and a nice outdoor terrace and we also had a nice meal. But Christ on horseback you have to wait so long for your drinks, your food and the empty plates to be taken away. I estimate that the empty plates were on the table for at least 40 minutes after the meal, which sometimes meant that the next course took an hour.

Well, what can I say? We sat here for lunch. The order went smoothly, but then things went wrong. After thirty minutes, the (otherwise friendly) lady came to ask if she could do anything else. We indicated that we wanted our sandwiches. We were then given cutlery, but she didn't ask anything. We were sitting on the two-seater near the kitchen so we could look inside. After another ten minutes we asked again, but there was no answer. In the meantime, we were able to distill which receipt was ours, and we saw it keep sliding back to the left. When we had been sitting for an hour and had finished our drinks, I asked for the last time. The kitchen then indicated - with a rather irritated intonation - that it would take "another eight to ten minutes". A little mea culpa would not have been out of place, waiting an hour for a salmon sandwich and a carpaccio sandwich is crazy. The drinks were paid for, and we left. It wouldn't have been amiss if they had taken both, or even one, drinks off the bill. But I'm not surprised that didn't happen.

The food was delicious. My party I had a carpaccio sandwich, a salmon sandwich, a carpaccio salad, meatball menu. The sandwiches were fresh and generously filled, as was the salad. What I think is a shame is that there is only 1 vegetarian option if you are a vegetarian. Furthermore, a great place to have a nice lunch in a beautiful central location in Zwolle.

I think the photo says it all. €7.50 for a dehydrated mini meringue tart. First of all, the waiter asked if he could take our drinks while we were seated and still trying to take off our coats. It's nice that you are seen as a guest, but a friendly greeting and welcome would have been sufficient at that moment. Later he came back for the order, I asked about the cake selection and went for the Lemon merengue cake, and this is what I was served. For €7.50 the price-quality ratio is hard to find. It was also completely dried out, the meringue was like rubber and not fresh. The inside of the restaurant is surprising and quite beautiful. But we sat next to the open kitchen, where apparently the dishes are also stacked, and it was extremely noisy. It was not taken into account that we were sitting right next to it and even my husband sometimes put his finger in his ear because it was so loud. was a loud noise. I wouldn't recommend it. I also saw an employee who put a piece of apple pie on someone's plate with her bare hands. It's just not all of it.

They didn't punish me when I took the beer bottle out of the fridge after the last round and broke it.

Previously posted a review somewhere, no idea where it ended up. Went out for dinner with 4 people. As a starter I had fish and prawns, at least that was what was on the menu, I just couldn't really find them. The main course is the tournedos, which is a difficult piece of meat. We had 2, rear and medium, which of course got mixed up. Both were not warm... oh yeah, they were supposed to be in a gravy, but they were in broth, I think. The satay and mussels were good. The service was friendly, but if you only have 1 bartender on a Saturday evening with a full terrace, things won't go quickly... the location is great. Biggest turn-off...the toilets...dirty, trash bin full. That's not possible....

The historic main guard, located on the Grote Markt of Zwolle, consisted of no more than a high ground floor with an attic. There were 2 waiting rooms on the same street, separated by a connecting door. The left space served for the garrison guard, the space on the right for the civil guard. Each guardroom had its own front door in the rich Renaissance facade. Today, ''In Den Hoofdwacht'' houses a brasserie. We had lunch there and the food was more than decent. A very long wait, but the main terrace was packed (taking up almost the entire Grote Markt). Fairly pricey, although the location may also contribute to this. One thing that was very positive was the friendliness of the staff.

We recently ate here and were unfortunately very disappointed. The portions are really small, but completely overpriced. You get the feeling that you're paying a lot of money for very little here - and what little you get is only partially edible. Really disappointing in terms of taste and far from what you would expect for the price. The service also left a lot to be desired. It took a very long time for someone to get their first drinks and friendliness doesn't always seem to be a priority here. The ambience? Unfortunately, also a disaster. The interior appeared unkempt and even dirty in some places. Here you don't have the feeling of being in a clean, cozy restaurant. All in all, I really can't recommend the restaurant – disappointing from start to finish!

If you want to wait 1.5 hours for your food, eat here. I can't rate the food because it's still not here.

We arrived in good spirits. I wanted to surprise my boyfriend with a nice drink in the historic heart of Zwolle. First we took a seat on the terrace next to the restaurant, where our necks were just above the table. Something went wrong somewhere in the ordering process between chair and table. Fortunately, there was still room on the square where we could order drinks via a QR code. Ordering was quick, but delivery was even slower. We and the tables next to us waited at least 30 minutes for our drinks. To ease the pain, we ordered a luxurious appetizer with shrimps, prawns and other tasty bitterballs from 'chef Otto'. When this arrived (before the drinks) it turned out to be bami disc, frikandel and cheese soufflé. The place is beautiful, but that's about it. My boyfriend never wants to go to Zwolle again...

Leckes Essen, der Kellner aber daneben. Vorspeise gebracht ohne Servierten und Besteck. Kein Geschäftssinn. Die Frage nach einem regional oder niederländischen Likör o.ä. Wurde verneint. Zum Glück gibt es in Zwolle ja noch einige Bars.

Had dinner here in Zwolle with a group. Employees have a huge language barrier among themselves. For example, they do not understand gluten-free and the people in the kitchen do not understand what is in the order. This means you get completely different dishes on the table or you have to wait longer for your dish. One carpaccio was half-frozen, we gave a gluten-free dish that was not gluten-free, the starter order was incorrect and the main course was also incorrect. Appetizer took a very long time to make. Bizarre! We also heard that other people were also complaining that their food was frozen. All in all, a big fat recommendation. Fortunately, the service was nice. We got a round of the house as a compensation. We spent about 2.5 hours there. We were also very satisfied with the employee at our table, but very bad! Especially when you look at what you pay here. The food you got here was very tasty.

The one whats on the menu wasnt available so they could serve us some smsll snacks instead We got 12 small snacks what you can't compare with the schrimps gamba and other more luxurious snacks If they servr you less expensive food for the same price they should serve you more pieces This dish did cost us €14,-

Next time I would think it would be better if the salt wasn't stuck in the package and my burger didn't taste so strongly of tomato

Nice location, but a pity that the snacks were not what was on the menu. O.a. shrimps and prawns, which would suit such a wine bar. These were replaced by mini fricandels, nasi and bami balls and cheese bites, which you would expect in a beer pub. The wines were good.
