It's ok... What used to be the icon of the up and coming East has gone stale. A bit overpriced, a bit lackluster service, food a bit less imaginative and a bit lacking in quality of ingredients and preparation. All bits.. but they make up for an experience that is not worth the money that is being charged, personally I'm sad to see an icon go but hey, it has happened.

Everything was perfect and the people so friendly and nice. We had a 4 course vegetarian menu and it was so delicious

I have been coming to this restaurant for well over ten years; I kept coming back because of the quality of the food, the wine, and the staff. Last week, I happened to go twice in a row, and both times it was a bit disappointing; it is no longer as great as it used to be. The wines are still delicious and the food is still very tasty, but the portions are very small. I am a light eater, but even I was really hungry late at night. We also often had to wait a very long time, and the waiter kept forgetting our orders.

Incredible fine dining food and service but not the price tag! Add in the warmth of the atmosphere and staff is take this over any of the Michelin restaurants I’ve ever been. Dutch food modernised so it’s a pleasant surprise. The langoustines was to die for - I mopped up every single bit of sauce. The home made butter… a beautiful blend of taste and texture. The fish was melt in your mouth soft with the sauce but the skin was a delicate thin crackle - done to perfection! The duck breast was perfectly cooked. Really was amazing and so were the two owners and staff. A must visit in Amsterdam.

The dishes were creative, superbly prepared, and presented with meticulous attention to detail. The relaxed and informal atmosphere was particularly pleasant, making the evening feel very authentic and welcoming. Furthermore, each course was explained to us in detail in English, which enhanced the experience even further. I have been coming to Wilde Zwijnen since this restaurant opened (16 years ago) and it is always good. This time we had the chef's menu and were pleasantly surprised again. The English sous-chef came personally to ask if everything was okay. The service was once again extremely friendly and good. Everything we were served was explained. Not large portions, but very, very tasty.

Low-key the best place around - sitting modestly in a corner of Leidseplein, its terrace has evening sun surrounded by lots of gorgeous plants, inside it’s cosily decorated with good acoustics. Have the Chef’s menu: 3 or 4 courses which are balanced, savoury, not too heavy, and accessible. The bimi starter is medicine to any tired, hungry, or hungover soul - the asparagus tastes is spring-ish and filling yet light. But the dessert is the absolute best: rhubarb, strawberries, and yoghurt tasted like solidified summer. The stuff you’d want to take on your hot August evening picnic, except that logistically the sorbet ice cream would be challenging. On top of that the staff is super friendly and fun, and they know their wine card. All in all; everything you’ll want from your dining experience. You’ll go home satisfied without feeling like you’ll have to run 10 miles the next morning to get rid of all the butter. Wholeheartedly recommend!

food is ok, but the staff seems incredibly overworked. they charge you 5€ for the water on the table and don't bring any bread with the 125€ dinner. how can the owners of this place be so cheap. come if you enjoy waiting 1h for each course of food.

Cannot recommend this place enough! We went there for dinner with some friends last week and had a fantastic time. The food was excellent (two of us had the 4 course menu and 2 of us had the 5 course option). Everything served tasted fresh and seasonal. We let the team choose the wines for us and they matched perfectly with each course. The overall ambiance was very relaxed and the service was excellent - Mischa and Louis made a great team and it's clear they care about every aspect of the dining experience. What a treat!

Wilde Zwijnen is a lovely spot on Javaplein. We were warmly welcomed and well served for my father's 65th birthday. The food was exquisite, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. A special thank you to the kitchen and the restaurant manager. Very happy with the gluten-free and vegan options.

Service is very eager and friendly. I ordered the oysters as starters (super fresh, the bread/butter was heaven) and then opted for the 3 course menu. Food was nice, the two Riesling wines were okay. The cheese course was my favorite tbh. I was confused by the invoice later on, it said 2,50€ per oyster on the display outside but I paid 4.80€ per piece. Also, I was charged extra for the cheese course even though I chose it instead of the sweet dessert. Idk, what I missed or what was lost in translation but it left a weird aftertaste on what could have been a great dining experience.

Tasty food, but not exceptional. Wine selection/knowledge paired with dishes was very good. The service was very friendly and helpful, for example regarding the timing of the dishes and the feasible number of courses, since we had to be somewhere on time.

So, a really lovely place and really lovely food. The customer service is like a pure diamond and the food is not spoiled by the price. If you are open to different tastes and to the fact that each dish is a complete surprise, then I recommend it from the bottom of my heart.

Nice little restaurant with a unique atmosphere. We had the 5-course menu and all the dishes were really tasty. The courses flowed well into one another and the time between them was also just right. The service was good. They didn't have all the drinks in stock, but that really shows that it is a busy and good restaurant. That is why the food tasted fresh.

We had a delicious meal. There were five of us, and we had the three variations of the three-course menu at the table. The vegan, vegetarian, and chef's menus were all received enthusiastically. And it looked very beautiful on the plates. A real treat! The service was also very pleasant, relaxed, and on point. The only minor downside was that the time between courses was perceived as 'a bit long'. But that has little effect on the solid '9' we give for this evening!

Butter was incredible. Food was good Just to be prepared, not a plus or a minus, we were inside the restaurant for 3 hrs and 10 minutes. We were not taking our time. We ordered quickly and paid our bill quickly. It just takes time. 5 course

Had the 5 course chefs menu. The seasoning was on point. Herring they made slightly saltier, which paired well with the plainer bed of cauliflower. The duck was also seasoned just right.

I had a wonderful meal with my girlfriend. Everything I'd heard about Wilde Zwijnen turned out to be true. The food was fantastic and the service was top-notch. The service, with a keen eye for both the guests and the food, was excellent, and I highly recommend a visit to Wilde Zwijnen to anyone who has yet to experience it.

Outstanding service, delicious food.

Everything is great, yet still quite expensive. I had a delicious meal, the service was excellent, but in the end, you still go home feeling like you paid too much for the culinary experience you received.

The 5-course food itself was generally good, but the dessert was shockingly low effort, basic ice cream with some pear that felt lazy and completely out of place for a restaurant that claims fine dining standards. Service timing was unacceptable. After the second and third courses, the waiting time became excessive and killed the entire flow of the evening. Fine dining should feel curated and smooth, not like you’ve been forgotten. The restaurant was uncomfortably cold, my lady had to keep her jacket on the entire time. On top of that, the wooden chairs were extremely uncomfortable. Comfort clearly wasn’t a priority.

A wonderful culinary experience. We chose to let the chef surprise us with a four-course lunch menu. We thoroughly enjoyed it! Every dish was carefully prepared with surprising flavor combinations. Each ingredient was bursting with flavor, and the ingredients beautifully complemented each other. Each course was paired with a carefully chosen wine, expertly explained, and perfectly complemented the dishes. Host Mischa made the entire afternoon complete with his hospitality, expertise, and personal touch. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

He’s genuinely kind, explains every dish with clarity and passion, and you can really feel how much he loves what he does. He’s the one who turned a great dinner into a truly memorable evening. Nice restaurant, simply good. Pleasant atmosphere, attentive service, good food, no time slots. Which really makes you feel like you're having a night out. And gluten-free eating is absolutely no problem; even if you have celiac disease (like me), you can safely come here!

I've eaten here twice and it's been amazing both times. The food and service were both top notch. It's a great spot for a special meal. Can't recommend enough.

The bonus points: the food is brilliant; the multi-course menu is what you really want to go for. It is all game, which also means there might be a bullet in it—that's how fresh it is!!! Every meal is quite unique because they have to work with whatever time is available. They are also dog-friendly, so if you request it in the review, you can bring your dog along. A negative point is that the acoustics are still very loud, making it difficult to understand each other well.

Whenever we have something to celebrate, we've been going to De Wilde Zwijnen for 15 years. We always choose the successful concept: (meat, fish, or vegetarian. Number of courses: 2, 3, 4, or 5) "Chef's Surprise." And for all those years, the chef has conjured up delicious and unique culinary delights on our plates. The ingredients are simple and seasonal, but the combinations of ingredients and the original textures make the food adventurous. It's also a cozy restaurant with ample space between tables for privacy. The service is knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. In short, dining at De Wilde Zwijnen remains highly recommended!

We eat here often, often with various friends. They never disappoint: perfect service, low-key with attention to detail, an affordable, good menu, and delicious bread and butter to start. Desserts are also truly fantastic. Don't forget to ask for wine recommendations; we're always offered the best glasses. Besides, of course, the house aperitif!

We enjoyed a wonderful meal on the outdoor patio on a warm Amsterdam evening. The food was great as was the service. We had the four-course chef's menu, which was a perfect amount of food. All of the dishes were great: sea bass crudo, ravioli with a butter sauce, venison with bitterballen, and a really nice cheese plate for dessert. It's a great restaurant that is off the tourist path but well worth the trip for a welcoming neighborhood experience.

Lovely restaurant in Amsterdam at the end of the 14 tram line! Fantastic quality food served in a very relaxed atmosphere. You select 3, 4 or 5 courses (4 is ideal) and it's a set menu (everyone has the same food). It's really good to have dishes you wouldn't necessarily pick from a menu. The standard of the food is really good, and for the price is incredibly. Definitely worth the small journey out of the city centre.

Really great food, friendly service with thoughtful wine pairing recommendations, and – an oft overlooked thing – good acoustic treatment! Nice chatty atmosphere where you can actually hear each other very clearly. All 3 of us went for 4 courses, with 2 of us opting for the vegetarian menu, which was extremely delicious. Was about €260 all in with a couple wines each, 4 oysters, olives... A lot of money, sure, but I think fair pricing for an excellent restaurant. Will be back next time we're in Amsterdam, thanks for making my mum's birthday special.

What a disappointment! The worst thing I find is the bad service. The whole evening hardly anyone came by for drinks. The worst was that we had to wait 1.5 hours for our dessert. Even asked 3 times, "coming", but it didn't come. Bizarre. Food also average, especially the starter very tasteless. We will never come back here.

We had the 5-course Chef's Menu and can highly recommend it. A delicious wine pairing was perfect.

Some time ago they had still a la carte now only standard fixed menu very expensive. Wine also heavily overpriced. We were served rude, glasses were dirty, fatty and with remains inside. We asked them to be changed. Waiters feedback was ‘that they were not dirty’ that this was all normal. The tone of the feedback was for us to decide to leave before we really started. We did not ask back the reservation fee (30€) to avoid long waiting or discussions. We preferred to keep our good mood ok. This restaurant used to be a nice place to go in Oost but it clearly changed in a ‘milk cow’ for its owner. Pity.

I keep coming back here. I love the freshness of the food, the choices of wine and the great staff.

Just had a good cheese board with delicious wine. Nice service. Unintentionally screwed because initially 2 bottles of wine were on account (instead of 2 x 2 glasses). After many apologies, I received cash back. However, when I got home I saw that it was for one bottle. Lesson learned again. Very tasty, but very long! 2.5 hours from order to dessert. Tired of waiting.

My partner and I visited Wilde Zwijnen on March 28th and spent around 200 euros (+10% tip) for dinner for two. While the overall atmosphere and service — though a bit slow — were pleasant, I must say the food didn’t quite meet our expectations given the price. Of course, taste is subjective, and while some may enjoy the menu, for us it simply didn’t feel worth the expense. What really made the experience disappointing, however, was the issue with the 20-euro deposit required to secure the reservation. Unfortunately, this amount wasn’t deducted from the final bill, and despite several emails and even visiting the restaurant in person, it took until May 6th to get the refund processed. This kind of prolonged delay in handling a basic refund turned what could have been a decent evening into a frustrating and disappointing experience I wouldn’t expect from a restaurant of this reputation.

Dit is mijn favoriete restaurant in mijn buurt en misschien wel in Amsterdam en omstreken. Ik beoordeel het niet elke keer want kom er regelmatig, maar vooruit. Afgelopen week was ik er twee keer en allebei de keren waren mijn tafelgenoten en ik weer heel blij met het gebodene, de sfeer en de bediening. Vooraf tartaar van wit vis, ik meen zeebaars, tussen ravioli met kaassaus en lamsbout met diverse groenten als hoofdgerecht.Daarbij een kleine aanmerking: in de jus bij de lamsbout was de soya (ketjap?) nogal 'aanwezig'. Dat smaakte niet erg bij het verder Franse bereide gerecht en de begeleidende rode Languedoc. Toe aardbeienijs met een creme van witte chocolade. Over het geheel genomen heerlijk gegeten en de prijs voor zoveel verrassends blijft altijd symapthiek.

Almost a bit embarrassing how expensive it was and how mediocre the dinner was. The vegetarian 4 course menu was instead of fish/meat: 1x green asparagus, and 1x white asparagus. As if they had forgotten the vegetarian menu. The cheese board, for 17 euros(!), had three small pieces, which were not necessarily very special. Have never seen such a small cheese board for so much money. For comparison, at Rijks you can get 5 pieces of Kef for €20. In addition, I saw on the receipt that a more expensive bottle of wine had been purchased than was given. Had a photo of the bottle received, and instead of them saying 'mistake, we are correcting the receipt' I got the answer, the supplier has delivered the wrong bottle, I can give a 5 euro discount. (Difference of the error was €10). With difficulty they later realized that they themselves had made the mistake. Very bland. If, as a restaurant, you pretend that you belong in the higher segment with your prices, then you can be judged accordingly. For €110pp you can easily sit at a good restaurant, but not here. What a mockery.

Had dinner with a friend here last night - lovely food, incredible service, super enjoyable meal!! We had the homemade bread to start, which was wonderful, and then each had the 3 course chef’s menu with meat and fish. Every dish was lovely, but the dessert was a real standout. Would definitely return next time I’m in town!

Had a fantastic evening at WILDE ZWIJNEN. Even though we were the last booking of the night, they were still able to accomodate the five-course menu for us and it was delicious. When they saw my partner didn't like one of the dishes, they made her a different one at no extra charge. The host was very kind and friendly and made an excellent wine recommendation. An expensive night out, but worth it for a special occasion, a wonderful experience all round.

We were looking for a restaurant that serves locally sourced modern Dutch food, and found this place. There’s no menu online so we were intrigued. The staff were absolutely lovely and so welcoming even after we discovered that I had messed the booking time up, and we were late. We were not sure what to expect but we ordered the chef’s tasting menu with matching wines and wow, I’m so pleased we did. You also have a choice as to whether you prefer not to have meat, and you can choose fish or vegetarian options instead. To start, we were given delicious breads with whipped brown butter - totally unexpected but wonderful, then we had a white fish with buttermilk and herb sauce, a ravioli with nut crumbs and a delicious cheese sauce, then perfectly cooked venison with a potato cake and spring vegetables. The wines were from around Europe and matched beautifully with the fabulous food. Unfortunately we were short on time so we didn’t get to try dessert or cheeses but since we will definitely come back here, we’re looking forward to being completely surprised next time. If you’re after something completely different, give this place a go. Also, we’d never have gone to the neighbourhood where this place is, so that was a bonus, because it’s beautiful and we’re looking forward to exploring that in future too.

Locale grande ma molto curato e pulito. Servizio gentile. Piatti ricercati e in gran parte riusciti (io personalmente non ho amato molto la carrot cake salata, ma sono gusti). Carta dei vini interessante. Varie possibilità di menu 4/5/6 portate eventualmente anche vegetariane! Al livello di alcuni stellati già provati! Forza ragazzi, uno sforzo ancora e si va alla stellina!
